The relationship between me and my mother was not great, terrible (suprise surprise)

We have connected more over the Years. I did take me going to prison, and literally having the skills to reach out, literally put in my lap( If I refused, I'd likely be doing my maximum of 15 to 20)

Many things she said to me in my youth, still ring in my head.

"I love you, but I really don't fucking like you right now"

"You're going to stay here, while I move to north Dakota to be with my husband"

"One of these days I hope it's the fuckin corners office, that way I don't have to waste another wensday coming here"

" No I don't want him home, I want to surrender him to government custody"

"I'm not going to come get you from Minot, that's 4 hrs there, then back. Figure it out yourself'

Granted I could be pissed about it to this day.

But I know she suffered then too.

I still love to throw it at her now and then she wasted 2012 to 2022 with the excuse of a "parental figure" that was that waste of space.

But, oddly enough. In the last 2 years, she actually took accountability for her choice, and lack of action

Most importantly, the bow onthe gift persay.

But, hearing that she knew it wasn't easy. She saw it. Hearing I wasn't less then, that, that was enough for me.

It certainly doesn't help that many of the men who are like this have been taught both the behavior and avoidance techniques starting at a young age. It's not just shitty adult "role models" either; it's the toxic masculine culture that every male-at-birth person is forced endure. More frequently these days, kids are able to break free as awareness grows. But even if direct experiences with family were better, it's impossible for young men to escape the effects of "manbox" culture.

A lot of these men don't *just* have their heads up their asses (because they do), but even confronting their own behavior shows weakness in their minds. This is because other men and boys, from childhood, will violently reject and bully anyone that displays anything like emotion, consideration of any other gender, or in extreme cases, admission of guilt involving gender roles.

It's the patriarchy. But it can be changed and *is* changing, as long as we keep spreading awareness. Unfortunately, this can mean understanding and empathizing with shithead men to help them and others understand what made them this way, and also that they *can* change because so many of us have, and we're here to help them break from the system that often times broke us.

I get so tired of fe-meme-ism (feminism but memes). Fememeism? Idk I'm making stuff up point is I saw the bear or man thing all day today and I'm like so tired. Men don't care if they're seen as more dangerous than a bear. Most of them probably see it as high praise. That's not the point. Stop trying to convince me "Men are just missing the point." No. They just literally and actively refuse to do anything that might make them have to feel bad for their actions or decrease some benefits or increase some barriers for them.

When us men are taught: to suck it up, tough it out, to figure it out ourselves, disconnect from our bodies, never complain or ask for help, and to shun self care, compassion, awareness & self reflection aren’t the obvious tools we might expect to learn in anger management. To be taught that compassion for yourself is important after generations of men have acted otherwise, can be a shock, that most men will slowly open up to & embrace, if not at first, perhaps at second or third session. Being in a group where they get to witness other men succeeding with their relationships & taking some missteps allows their humanity to gently step back into themselves. There is no pill, or magic key.
