w2s dad fic next?

When you told Harry he was going to be a dad, he had the exact response a lot of fans assumed he did.
He screamed. Not a little yelp. No, this was a full-blown Harry freak out; throw chair at the TV, scare the dogs, knock over a mug of tea type of scream. The kind of scream that made you stare at him like he was the one about to give birth right this second.
“You alright?” you asked, already amused. Harry stood there, frozen, a pregnancy test in one hand like it was radioactive. “I—I don’t know how to be a dad! I can’t even keep mint alive. Mint! You just water it!”
“We don’t even have mint in the garden,” you replied.
“Exactly! I forgot to buy the fucking little pot it comes in! We have a shit tone of Coriander. What if our baby is mint and not coriander?” He panicked.
You walked over, put your arms around his neck and kissed his cheek lightly in an attempt to calm him down. “You’re going to be brilliant.”
He didn’t believe you. At least not then.
He watched YouTube tutorials like “How to hold a baby without dropping it” and “Do babies bounce?” (He didn’t stop asking questions of Ethan and Simon, something that you found incredibly adorable.
He overprepared. He thought if he was going to be a shit dad at least the child should want for nothing so he bought a car seat it took four of you to work out how to install. He spent over a grand on a pram that looked more like a Mars rover than anything a human child should be in. Painted the nursery yellow because he read somewhere it was a “neutral, calming colour,” then immediately hated it and repainted it blue. Twice. It had to be blue.
When their son finally arrived, something switched in Harry’s brain. One minute he was a nervous wreck with hands that hovered uselessly like he was defusing a bomb, and the next, he was cradling him like he’d done it his whole life, he stared it his tiny little son in his huge hands and all of sudden there was something which just felt… right. Like it always belonged.
“Okay lad you listen, screams are for FIFA and for freaking out your uncle Chris during football challenges yea fella? Not at 2am.”
Of course it didn’t work but Harry took it in stride. You were breastfeeding but even so he saw it as his duty to take Elliot and settle him back down placing him to sleep, when he wouldn’t settle he would place him on his chest, talking to him about anything and nothing but mostly plane crashed. You would joke it wasn’t appropriate for a child to hear but it didn’t matter, weirdly it worked. Mostly you loved the sight of your two boys, Elliot snuggled on his daddy’s chest both with small smiles on their faces.
He made up games like “Catch the Nappy” (it was never caught), “Burp or Explosion?” and “Milkface,” where he’d put on a bib himself and pretend to chug a bottle. It was for him, obviously. Not because it made his you laugh until you cried.
Bath time became Harry’s favourite thing to do and it became incredibly chaotic, it was his favourite time to make up games.
Elliot would splash, and Harry would retaliate with a tiny cup of warm water over his head, gasping dramatically. “YOU DARE WET THE KING?” he’d yell, causing your son to go into a fit of giggles, his first ever giggles were in the bath.
But for all the chaos, he was good. Really good.
He could soothe him with a gentle rock, do nappies in record speed, he still gagged at them but he got them done incredibly quickly and by the time he turned one, he knew who the fun parent was.
“Dada!” Elliot babbled one day, pointing directly at him, you never saw him smile as widely before.
When you told him you were pregnant again, Harry blinked slowly and whispered, “We’ve done this once. It’s fine. Right?” He was surprisingly calm but when he found out you were having a girl, the panic set in again a little, what did he know about raising girls? Turns out quite a lot.
But when babyLeah arrived, Harry was calmer. Still fun, still slightly chaotic. Still prone to yelling things like “THE BEAST IS FED!” after a bottle, but calmer, he loved his little girl HIS little girl to protect and love.
And Elliot? A surprisingly sweet big brother, considering he was his fathers son he could be sweet at times. Harry’s mum told you it reminded her a lot of Harry and Rosie. There were the odd moments like when Elliot was trying to “share” his half-eaten biscuit by shoving it in Leah’s ear.
Harry loved having two. He joked he was now running a starter Pokémon team.
“Water-type baby and Normal-type toddler. Soon, I will evolve.”
His favourite pastime became launching them into the air in turns, safely, he said and catching them with dramatic “DA-DAAA!” poses like he was on stage. His arms were constantly tired, but his heart was full.
Bedtime routines? A full production. Songs, dances, plushie puppet theatre. Elliot refused to sleep unless Harry did the bedtime story with all of the silly voices. Leah insisted daddy tucking her in as tight as he possibly could.
He suggested the Sidemen do a “father Olympics” video, everyone was sure he would win.
By the time Baby Number Three came along, another boy named Sebastian or Seb—Harry was a seasoned pro.
By now, your house was a noisy, toy-strewn kingdom of tiny humans who all worshipped him like some chaotic, bouncy god. Three mops of blonde hair, three very loud and cheeky personalities
“Seb, this is a football,” he said proudly one day, placing it in front of her at six months. “Your brother kicks it, your sister throws it, and I step on it, fall and scream into the void.”
Elliot now six had learned sarcasm, which was terrifying, Leah was approaching four and had a love of airplanes, Seb the baby was small, squishy, and already mastering his “Dad can’t say no to me” face.
He built pillow forts bigger than his sofa. Turned bedtime into laser-tag hide-and-seek. Once installed a ball pit in the living room “for early stimulation” (and also for diving into like a gremlin when the kids went to bed). You of course made him tidy it all up after as he grumbled.
“Daddy, come play castle!” Was a frequent request.
Harry would sigh, pick up a foam sword, and declare, “Right. I’m the dragon now. You have to slay me before bedtime!”
And they would. Usually with plastic pots on their heads as helmets and the dogs joining in for no reason.
He wasn’t the most traditional dad. He let them stay up late just because. Let them eat cereal with forks “just to see what happened.” He once accidentally let Leah eat a crayon (“It was non-toxic! It said non-toxic!”) and got yelled at for laughing too hard.
But when they were sad, he was there. When they were sick, he was bedside with cuddles and Paw Patrol. When they learned something new, he was front-row with a proud tear in his eye and his phone camera zoomed way too close.
And despite all the chaos, the house filled with laughter.
One night, after finally getting them all to sleep, he collapsed on the couch next to you and sighed, “I used to be famous, you know.”
“You still are,” she said, resting her head on his shoulder.
“Am I?” he yawned.
“Yeah. You’re Dad Famous. You’re the king of puddle-jumping, the pillow fort architect, the fart noise champion of the world.”
He smiled, looking around at the toys, the laundry, the crayons on the walls.
“I’ll take it.”
Then he paused.
“…Wait. Why is it too quiet?”
“Harry, no—don’t jinx—”
A crash.
A scream.
A giggle.
He stood up with a sigh. “Round four begins.”

Prompt For Dc-x-Dp With M’gann and Danny M’gann didn't expect to be dealing with Random Lazurus Green Portals forming around mars, but since she's Nearby mars she gets to deal with it... and their's An Alien with snow white hair Fighting A Glowing Vampire who's raving about Fathers and mothers?? Danny Is in such a Mood, He's on mars, which is a plus, but He's Fighting Vlad On Another 'Join me! Let me remove Jack from this plain of Reality!' and Honestly The Portals are throwing him off, Just... Bad memories, And Then, becuase of fucking course Something else happened, Vlad Gets Decked in the face and sent flying. "hey, So im going to guess that The Vampire is The Evil one here?" The Green woman asked, while Looking at Danny. While Vlad is growling and about to Throw A Red Ecto-blast at M’gann Danny gets in the way with a shield and responds. "yeah, arch nemisis and all, how are you even out here? or breathing?" M’gann Just Shrugged and said, "Well Home is home and all." Before flying to go Deck the Vampire and all. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ hope this is enough for you to Work some magic and all. and as for some extra stuff you could use, maybe danny has a Space obsesion, and His Protective stuff is Becuase of the Type of spirit he is half of? And maybe An Ice core Could be fun to go with? Ghost prince territory? with danny not wanting to be ghost king just yet. ideas for ya to use.
It's such a cool concept! I didn’t fit Ghost Prince in, but I hope you'll like what I did
*****
Danny was going to strangle Vlad, all subtleties of ghost powers no withstanding. He needed the brutal power that just wasn't fully there even when using more offensive abilities, like ecto-blasts.
He had been having a good day. Okay, maybe not a good day, it's been a long time since he had an actually good one, but a decent day. One, that seemed to start out calm, with all of his typical rogues stuck in Zone recent enough they shouldn't get out today specifically. It was Saturday, so no school, and for once his homework wasn't swallowing him, so he had a bit of time to breathe. And prepare college applications, because his grades got to an appropriate level again and he actually got a shot in academic career. No chance for scholarship like Jazz, but he could go if he played his cards right.
And then, of course, Vlad had to come into his room to harass him again. This time with the added flair of a portal gun he made for some freaking reason.
This time Danny wasn't even trying to piss Vlad off, in the love of Ancients, he tried to ignore the other halfa even when he showed up in his room, raving about removing Jack Fenton from this plane of reality. Craving to deck the guy right then and there was enormous but Jazz was on him about controlling his ✨️displaced aggression✨️ and his anger in general, so he was trying to tune Vlad out. He carefully didn't even think about transforming into Phantom. Especially since both of his parents were safe, a few states away on some ghost hunting convention that Danny managed to skip by the power of ‘I can't take more days off school, sorry I messed up my attendance early in the year’.
Well, they would be, if Vlad, being the obsessed creep he was, didn't try to follow them with a portal gun.
Danny was still willing to ignore it all, because Vlad was a loser and chances that he made something so complicated work properly were only slightly above chances his parents had. And both of them were tripping hazards in hell.
But then Vlad started blasting around his room to egg him on and hit his Curiosity rover model.
Phantom tackled him before the bastard had time to smirk. They phased through the wall, because otherwise Vlad’s back would smash into Lego Saturn V and boy was not looking forward to even more damage. His white gloved hands pressed Plasmius against the cold floor. It looked promising. Over the years he got to a relatively similar level as Vlad with his fighting abilities so getting advantage so early could in theory mean it would be over soon and he would get back to his applications.
He forgot how to breathe for a moment when he was pushed through a portal. Some most instinctual part of him, deep in his core, fell to the mindless panic because He died this way! He died this way, was he able to survive it again?! Without thinking he lashed out, trying to scratch and bite and blast because he needed to get out, he needed to get away but danger was in front of him and he needed to get rid of the danger before he could escape to safety. And Vlad kept teasing him, like he didn't know fully well what portals did to Phantom, to Danny, like he wasn't breaking the most basic rules of the anarchist ghost society.
So Phantom kept trying to punch and kick and scream, trying to get away from green ovals that just kept appearing around them leading to who knows where.
Powerful blast to the chest sent him flying back, through the portal and down to the ground, which at some point became asphalt instead of wheat field. He was too frazzled to even try stopping his fall, just half heartedly tensed waiting for an impact.
It never came, because he was caught by static. Men in red (Flash he'd realize second too late, Flash) send him a concerned smile and asked about something but Plasmius was trying to duplicate, no doubt to overshadow actual hero and it wasn't the way Phantom wanted to be introduced to the Justice League so he jumped forward, sending both halfas through another portal.
It was easier this time, when he expected it but his hands were still shaking when he put them in fists. He could handle it though. He fought in much worse circumstances.
They spawned through a few more portals, almost threw worried looking Superman off the sky and barely not killed some of Aquaman's dolphins before something changed. Phantom didn't realize it at first, too focused on rapid fire from Plasmius and on the constant lookout for new portals, but something changed.
His next blast hit the target and left charcoal black burn and almost fire in its wake. It wasn't something that happened normally. It wasn't something that happened normally unless Danny's obsessions were being served. He wasn't protecting anyone but himself, which didn't fill the protection obsession, so that left…
Space.
Oh.
He was on Mars. Or well, a bit above.
It was mesmerizing. It was breathtaking. It was everything he wished for ever since he learned about other planets in kindergarten.
Sky was a pinkish red color that on Earth meant a beautiful clear sunset but here was just the middle of the day. He didn't see the sun itself, apparently lucky enough to have his back to it. It wouldn't be brighter than at home, obviously, but it was always nice to not be blinded when admiring the view.
The landscape below them seemed familiar. He probably saw it in some photo, but he couldn't remember which one. He couldn't help but try to remember. He wanted to know where was he, what he'd seen, what he'd touched, later when he was in his room, longing to get out here again.
In his almost trance he just about ignored the blast that flew past his ear like an annoying pest.
He had the name of this rock formation on the tip of his tongue! C'mon, brain, you could do it, you could remem-
Even he couldn't ignore the burning pain of the ecto blast straight to the shoulder.
“Listen to me, Little Badger!” Plasmius yelled before dodging ice javelin. Phantom made sure it evaporated before hitting the ground. He was not letting other planet become collateral damage in whatever mess Vlad wanted to stir this time.
He carefully didn't look around when they teleported next time, aware just enough to know they were still on Mars. It wasn't a good moment to sooth his neglected obsession.
Being mad that this was probably the only chance he got out there helped. It definitely reignited the absolute fury, before muted by the panic and then obsession trance.
Phantom wasn't sure what he was yelling back as Plasmius went on and on about killing Danny's dad and marrying his mom and adopting Danny and how ‘look Little Badger, you and I both see how much better off you'd be if you just joined me and let me teach you’. He just knew there was little other than obscenities, and it was paired with an array of blasts and ice and straight up punches when he got close, which was good enough.
Oh, how he wished he could strangle the pathetic vampire lookalike bastard.
Something green and indigo sent Plasmius crashing into the ground.
“Hey, so I'm going to guess that the vampire is The Evil one here?” Feminine voice asked in clear English. Danny took a moment to just stare, blinking rapidly to make sure he saw what he thought he saw.
Yup, that was certainly The Miss Martian, an alien heroine, whose action figure he displayed at the most honorable place of his room. The Miss Martian he tried to learn everything about when she debuted. The Miss Martian whose powers were so similar he used footage from her fights to learn himself. His biggest inspiration.
Dope.
Wait, she asked him a question, didn't she? It was not the time to be a fanboy, probably.
Yeah, no it was definitely not a time to be a fanboy, he decided, right when he threw a shield in front of her, because Vlad didn't take kindly to being interrupted. It really was the least he deserved.
“Yeah, arch nemesis and all that. If I may ask, what are you doing here, Miss Martian, ma'am? I thought you lived full time on Earth?”
“Well, home is home and all” she just said wistfully and telepathically threw a rock to Vlad's stomach, making it follow until it hit the mark, right before another stone hit him in the unprotected back.
And here Danny thought he got over his celebrity crush back when he was sixteen.
Good thing though, another person in the fight made his protection obsession rear back to life, the fact that she was an alien only helping as his space side zeroed on her too. It was useful to not get distracted by glimpses of the world around them.
Of course Vlad just duplicated to make the chances ‘equal’ once again, so the fight dragged on.
Miss Martian just kept being graceful like a supernova, beautiful and destructive.
Danny hoped he didn’t look as embarrassingly pathetic as he thought he did. What were the chances she didn’t see when he took the blast to the arm because he got distracted by pretty rocks?
Plasmius kept taunting, calling him Daniel because of course secret identities or prefered names don't matter when you have to harass the teenager.
Phantom decked him extra hard for that.
At least he didn’t try to use his portal gun again, too busy with fighting off both of them.
Kick, dodge blast, ice, shield for Miss Martian, ice because how dare he attack an alien, dodge, intangibility.
Was it or was it not a good idea to use Ghost Wail and be done with that.
“I've got an idea, cover for me for a minute, okay?”
“Sure” Did he sound too eager? He wanted to keep it cool at least outwardly, not mess up his first and perhaps last impression.
Wait, shit, Martians can read minds! Miss Martian probably already knows how big of a mess he was.
Shit, shit, shit.
Phantom dutifully shielded heroine as she levitated with her eyes closed, at the same time keeping constant assault on Vlad. It was getting exhausting. At least he could go home fast when the fight ended.
“Do you want me to make him indefinitely indisposed or is it too much for you?” Miss Martian suddenly asked. Danny froze for almost a minute before he choked out.
“What do you mean?”
“I can rip his mind apart, leave his body alive but useless without any thought to lead it, but I know some people find it uncomfortable even when it happens to villains”
For a moment, in the midst of fanboying, he forgot how terrifying set of powers she had.
“Please don't” After all, ghosts are their minds, and despite how despicable things Vlad did, no one deserved fate of completely not existing.
“Alright. Is enhancing his experience of pain okay with your moral code?”
“Yeah, I think”
“Done,” she said with a smile, and despite how terrifying he was of her just a few seconds ago, he had to admit, this smile was gorgeous.
After that, it took, like, three punches before Vlad bailed. Which was good.
What was less good, was the fact that the portal he used to escape closed before Danny could go through it. He just stared for a long moment, blinking quickly. He wanted to scream. Or cry. Or both. Both was good.
“So, Daniel…?”
Danny winced and looked back at Miss Martian.
“Danny. Or Phantom. Nobody calls me Daniel”
She nodded with a friendly smile. Good thing they were flying, because his knees got weak for a hot second.
“Alright. I'm M’gann”
“Should you tell me this?”
“I know your name,” she shrugged. “It's only fair that you know mine. It's not a name I use on Earth anyway”
“Um, sure, okay. It's nice to meet you M’gann” Was this too stiff? He had no idea how he was supposed to interact with heroes who just shared their identity. For no reason too, because c'mon, she didn't know him. Why would she do it?!
“Are you from Earth? You speak English”
“Yeah, USA, Illinois. That bastard teleported us around and of course left me stranded”
“It's your lucky day then, I was about to head back, I can take you with me”
There was no universe in which he wouldn’t agree.
#now imagine justice league meeting to talk about weird metas thet were fighting all over the place#because danny saw only flash superman and aquaman but other could see him in civies or even as heroes and he just havent realized#and they all are kinda stressing over it because danny and vlad could be dangerous and what not#and they try to find them and onky find vlad#meanwhile m’gann and danny are in bioship just bonding#anyway i hope you like what i did with your prompt#im not very good at writing fight scenes#nor do i get this whole “people hot” thing that kinda showed up#so tell me what i can do to do it better in the future#dpxdc#dc x dp#dp x dc#dcxdp#wandixx writes#wandixx answers#spearmint ship#have a nice day dear stranger who got to this part#danny fenton/m'gann m'orzz

The Mineralogical Variability of Aram Chaos
Aram Chaos is located within a confined 280-kilometer diameter Noachian-aged crater that at some time filled with water. Much of the chaos terrain within Aram is characterized by plateaus and mesas separated by valleys with varying degree of sizes.
After the chaos terrain formed, light-toned sulfates were deposited. Sulfates are a common mineral identified from both orbital and rover data of Mars and can vary in their mineralogy and hydration state. Three different types of sulfates have been identified in Aram Chaos, indicating a complex and evolving aqeuous history.
By studying the distribution and stratigraphy of the different types of sulfates, scientists can explore what most likely explains their formation, as well as how that geologic timing constrains the broader Martian climate evolution when they formed.

reason to kill elon musk besides the bazillion other reasons he needs to get murdered yesterday is because he made me stop thinking space is cool. i used to think space was objectively awesome but now every time i see video of rovers on mars or whatever all i can think about is cut corners and debris raining down on peoples houses in florida. i used to pray that i could grow up to be an astronaut but now when i fantasize about being on the iss or wherever i think about elons smug face as he types a tweet about how me dying in a fireball in the upper atmosphere isnt that bad because i was a woke mob tranny dei hire instead of a Real Astronaut. he did the impossible and made me hate space, and for this he needs to be publically beheaded.

WHERE DID MARS ATMOSPHERE GO??
Blog#441
Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024.
Welcome back,
New research suggests the atmosphere of Mars may be hiding in plain sight, having been absorbed by minerals in the Red Planet's clays. If Mars' envelope of gas did "go to ground" over 3 billion years ago, this could explain how Earth's neighboring planet became so different from our world, potentially losing its capability to host life.
Scientists know that the Red Planet wasn't always the arid and barren landscape that the Mars rovers Perseverance and Curiosity trundle across today.

Both of NASA's rolling robots have uncovered evidence that abundant water flowed over Mars early in its 4.6 billion-year history. But for Mars to have had liquid water, it must also have possessed an atmosphere to stop this water from freezing. The big question for decades has been: where did this atmosphere disappeared?
A team of researchers think that the answer has been under the noses (or the tracks) of Curiosity and Perseverance all this time. In a paper published in Science Advances, they argue that while water was present on the Red Planet, it may have trickled through certain rock types and set off a slow series of reactions that slurped carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

This would have then been converted into methane, a form of carbon, and locked up in the clay surface of Mars.

This would have then been converted into methane, a form of carbon, and locked up in the clay surface of Mars.

"Based on our findings on Earth, we show that similar processes likely operated on Mars and that copious amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide could have transformed to methane and been sequestered in clays," team member Oliver Jagoutz, professor of geology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (MIT EAPS), said in a statement. "This methane could still be present and maybe even used as an energy source on Mars in the future."

Working within his group at MIT, Jagoutz and colleagues didn't begin their investigation with Mars but with our own planet. The scientists were attempting to determine what geological processes drive the evolution of the hard yet brittle outer shell layer of Earth that encompasses the crust and the upper mantle, and is known as the lithosphere.
The researchers concentrated on a type of surface clay mineral called "smectite," which is very efficient at trapping carbon. Just one grain of smectite is composed of many folds in which carbon can sit and remain for billions of years without being displaced or disturbed.

Rocks scrutinized by the Curiosity rover in an ancient, long-dried lakebed on Mars have revealed conditions likely to have been habitable, billions of years ago. There, in rocks on the Gale Crater, Curiosity has found a surprising amount of manganese oxide – a mineral that is commonly found in lakes on Earth due to the highly oxidating conditions therein, which causes manganese crystals to form in the presence of oxygen. Its discovery on Mars in such great quantities suggests that perhaps similar conditions persisted in the Gale Crater, when it was filled with water in eons past. "On Earth, these types of deposits happen all the time because of the high oxygen in our atmosphere produced by photosynthetic life, and from microbes that help catalyze those manganese oxidation reactions," explains geochemist Patrick Gasda of Los Alamos National Laboratory. "On Mars, we don't have evidence for life, and the mechanism to produce oxygen in Mars's ancient atmosphere is unclear, so how the manganese oxide was formed and concentrated here is really puzzling. These findings point to larger processes occurring in the Martian atmosphere or surface water and show that more work needs to be done to understand oxidation on Mars."

more pre-outbreak joel hcs because this man takes up every square inch of my mind<33
. let’s be real he lives for sports, joel is the type of guy to invite tommy and all his friends over js to watch the “big game” (and he’s manning that barbecue 100% and doesn’t let anyone get near it, it’s just him cooking on it and he ends up missing half the game because of it but oh well)
. the driest fucking texter on the face of the earth i swear, his number one response to almost any message you send is just 👍 and then he’s confused later on when you assume that he’s upset
“are you mad at me?”
his head turns to your direction, brows furrowed and raised, “what?”
“are you mad at me?” you repeat, fingers fiddling with the hem of your shirt as you look at him.
he hesitates for a moment, like he’s almost about to ask if you’re mad at him. “no, sweets, i ain’t mad. why would i be mad at you?” he drawls, turning to face you fully.
“cause earlier when i told you i was gonna be home later you just replied with a thumbs up. you didn’t say anything else.”
“oh not this again- “
. WAS THE BIGGEST HISTORY NERD IN SCHOOL, ik that boy knew anything and everything if you asked him. history was the one subject he had straight a’s from no joke. remembers years and numbers like he was born for it, it’s srsly fascinating.
“napoleon bonaparte died which year?” the voice of the host of the game show booms from the tv. your eyes are flickering over the answers on the screen as you look away from your book for a second.
“may 5th, 1821,” joel mutters, his head comfortably settled in your lap as you card your fingers through his hair.
it makes you frown down at him, scoffing softly before you look back at the screen.
“1840,” the contestant replies and the buzzer practically defeans you, indicating that it’s the wrong answer.
“a couple years off there, Roger,” the host chuckles, flashing that unnatural white-teeth smile to the man, “napoleon died on the 5th of may, 1821”
and joel is chuckling in your lap, patting your thigh in victory as he watches your dropped jaw.
“i was a history buff in high school, what can i say?”
. i also feel like joel would’ve actually been a pretty smart kid (we don’t talk about him thinking the rover in the museum in tlou2 was the real one from mars), i also definitely think he went to music high school parallel with normal high school (he was a band kid through and through you can’t convince me otherwise). hardworking, smart, a bit of a goody-two-shoes if you squint, would’ve probably gone off to a decent college/university if it wasn’t for sarah’s appearance (wrap it before you tap it kids!!)
. type of guy to scoff whenever people say their favorite holiday is valentine’s day but you know damn well he’s got it marked on his calendar so he can remember to buy you some nice flowers and take you out to some fancy date (and fuck the shit out of you when you get home but that’s a whole other story). you tease him about it every year but he just brushes it off (his cheeks are red and he has to clear his throat bcs he himself knows it’s true and he’s too much of a gentleman to fully deny it)
literally the loml it’s critical atp<33

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States. The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science. SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research. The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network. Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor. Gary’s always loved science. He was the dorky school kid who spent his weekends at the Australian Museum. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on a career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. His first gigs were spent as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist, and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. That compares to the ABC’s overall radio listenership of just 5.6 per cent. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually. However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage. Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently. StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016. Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

"I'm Right Here"
Mark Watney X Reader
Summary: You are awakened by a terrible nightmare. Luckily, Mark is there to bring you back down to Earth.
Character(s): Mark Watney
Warning(s): nightmares, mentions of death, reader isn't taking care of themself.
A/N: This is a special request from @jolovesfandoms. I hope you enjoy!
You couldn't remember the last time you had a good night's sleep. It all started when Mark left for Mars. It was nearly impossible to get any rest without him beside you. The bed was cold, and your heart was heavy with the knowledge that you wouldn't be seeing him for over a year.
When he left for quarantine, he kissed you hard and told you he'd be back before you knew it. He promised he'd be safe and you believed him.
Then the unthinkable happened...
Mark Watney died.
You wouldn't eat, couldn't sleep. You were plagued with nightmares. Ones where you were so close, yet so far from saving him. These terrible visions tormented not only your sleep, but every waking moment of your life. You just couldn't seem to quit crying. You'd sob and scream until your throat was raw and you could do little more than whimper.
When you learned he was alive, you were ecstatic at first. Then reality set in. He was all alone and there was nothing you could do to save him. You could only sit there, wait, and hope for the best.
You'd have to wait for over four years.
You watched the news and counted down the hours. He'd either make it home like he promised, or you'd have to relive his death all over again. The nightmares somehow got worse. You often woke up in tears. The dreams all seemed so real. It was always the same type of dream: you got a phone-call from Venkat Kapoor, who informed you that there had been some terrible accident. You always stood there and listened while he told you in terrible detail how the love of your life met his untimely end. The Hab ripped open while he was asleep, he was crushed by debris in a storm, he starved to death, the MAV exploded...
You thought they would go away when he came home. You hoped seeing Mark safe and alive would stifle the crippling anxiety that had been growing inside of you from the moment he left.
But it didn't.
It had been two months since he came back home and your nightmares had gone nowhere. During the day everything was perfect. He had been given an extended paid leave from work and you both intended to use it well. You went out for hikes, indulged in the greasiest food, and avoided disco like the plague. You couldn't be happier to have him back home!
At night however, you reverted back to those same lingering fears. You were afraid you'd wake up and find it was all just a dream. He was still on Mars, fighting to stay alive. Or that he had been dead all along...
Tonight was no different. You were in the kitchen, laboring to finish your cup ramen. You needed to eat, but the food tasted like mud in your mouth. Your stomach was churning and your eyes burned as you swallowed another bite. The television was tuned in to the news, where CNN was talking about the latest updates on the "Watney situation" as they often called it. Apparently satellite images showed the rover had tipped. No one knew if the Martian was still alive.
You watched the screen unblinkingly, chewing slowly. You jumped as the phone started ringing. The sound echoed through the house, filling you with dread. Every call was like this, they were all the same... But you couldn't keep your hand from reaching for it. You grasped the phone unsteadily and brought it to your ear.
"Is this Y/N Y/L/N?" Venkat Kapoor asked.
"Yes..." you said, eyes already welling with tears.
"I... I have some unfortunate news."
You listened, blurry gaze still fixed on the television in front of you.
"There's been an accident. Mark Watney is dead... I'm sorr-"
You hung up the phone and covered your eyes with your hands. Your head pounded painfully and your throat tightened.
No.
No.
No, it's not true. He's not dead. He promised he'd come home.
The phone started ringing again.
You didn't answer. You didn't want to hear it. They thought he was dead before and they were wrong. How could he be dead? He had so much life still left in him. He had so many plans for the future, he wouldn't leave those unfinished!
You sank to the floor, struggling to take a breath. Your legs couldn't support your weight. It was like gravity had multiplied by 5.
The headline flashed onto the screen.
Mark Watney: Dead in a Rover Accident.
You sobbed and shook your head, "No, please... No, you can't be gone! It's not true! Y-you... Please no...."
"Y/N," you heard your name like a whisper. An echo.
You wiped the tears from your eyes and searched for the voice. He said he'd come home. He said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you! His parents and his friends all needed him! He's coming home! No more funerals, no more memorials!
"Baby... Baby it's okay..." His voice came from nowhere. So close, yet so far away.
"M-Mark Please!" you cried.
"Wake up baby! Please wake up!"
The phone rang again.
You threw it against the wall and screamed. Just as the screen shattered, your eyes shot open. Mark's worried face filled your vision. His gentle blue eyes scanned over you frantically and his strong hands gripped your shoulders.
"Y/N? Honey? Are you with me?" He asked in a breathless voice.
"M-Mark?" you choked out.
"That's right, I'm right here." He whispered, pulling you into his chest. "I'm right here..."
"Y-you... y-you were..." You tried to speak, but your couldn't form a sentence.
"It's okay baby, it was just a bad dream. It's over now." He murmured against your temple.
You buried your face in his chest and cried. You couldn't keep it in anymore. You'd been without him for over two years. Two years of nightmare after nightmare. Sleepless night after sleepless night. You wanted to be strong for him, to be his shoulder to lean on when he woke up still thinking he was on Mars. He needed you right now and here you were, being so selfish. 'You think you have it bad Y/N? Try walking a mile in his shoes. He was all alone on a whole planet and here you are crying like a baby!' You berated yourself in your head.
"I-I'm sorry," you pulled back and wiped your eyes. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you."
"Don't apologize for this, it's not your fault." Mark grabbed your face and brushed away the tears that just kept flowing. He softly kissed your forehead and pulled you in for another tight hug. "Everything's okay now... just breathe."
You took a deep breath. He smelled just like... trees. Trees and grass and a little hint of mint. You sighed and clung to his shirt for dear life.
"Good... Good, just like that." Mark whispered, pressing his cheek to your head. You were getting his shirt wet, but he didn't seem to mind. He just whispered sweet things in your ear and rubbed soothing circles into your back. Once you calmed down a little, he spoke again. "Do you want to tell me about it?"
"W-what?" you asked.
"I think it would help if we talked about it... please," he looked at you with those precious blue eyes and you were completely at his mercy. Mark was the smartest person you had ever met, nothing got past him.
"I... I don't want you to worry about me Mark. It's just a silly nightmare! What you went through-"
"No. Sweetheart, listen to me very carefully. I love you, we're a team. That means we support each other through good times, and in bad. You've done a damn good job of supporting me Y/N... now it's my turn to do the same. I don't want you to think you can't come to me when you're having a hard time." He swallowed hard. "Please talk to me, I've been worried about you. Lean on me, please..." Mark cupped your cheek.
Your eyes welled up again and you released a shaky breath. "Y-you keep dying... Over and over and over again," You said shakily. Mark's lip quivered. "Every night it's a repeat of the same thing. I was watching the news when they called me. When they told me you were..." You couldn't look him in the eye. "We had a funeral for you, I watched them bury an empty casket... Then months later they call again and tell me you're alive and all that mourning we went through could just be... tossed aside. Every day since I've been so... scared I'll get another call and you'll be dead all over again-" You covered your eyes and tried to keep from crying again, but it was all in vain.
"I couldn't do anything to help you, I could only sit here and watch!" You sobbed, "You were millions of miles away and they'd call me with every little update, and every call was just-" you choked and wiped at the never ending stream of tears, "I never wanted to answer because... what if my nightmares were real this time? What if all of this is some cruel dream? What if I wake up and you never made it home?"
"Look at me..." Mark pleaded lovingly.
You turned your puffy eyes back to his.
"I'm so sorry you've been going through this alone... I can't even begin to imagine how..." he sniffled, his own eyes welling. "God, if our roles were switched I don't know how I would do it..." He closed his eyes and gathered himself. You had been so strong, taking care of his family in his absence. He was lonely on Mars without you, but at least he knew you were safe. He had you, his parents, his friends, and a multitude of therapists and psychologists to talk to about his problems. You had been keeping yours close to your chest. Out of sight out of mind.
He wished he had asked sooner. Mark noticed something was off the moment he saw you when he got off the ship. You looked thinner, more tired, and you came up with endless excuses to stay up late. You never wanted to sleep. It took a lot of coaxing to get you in bed. Dammit, why didn't he say anything?!
You needed him. Mark would be damned before he let you slip through the cracks.
Mark gently grabbed your hands and pulled them close to his chest. "I'm right here... I'm not going anywhere. Those calls aren't going to come. This isn't a dream..." He brought your hands to his lips. "I missed you so much Y/N... I was gone for a long, long time, but I made it back and I'm staying."
"Forever?" you asked softly.
"Till the end of time... I'm right here... you're stuck with me sweetheart," he smirked. You chuckled softly and pressed your forehead to his.
"Is that supposed to be a threat Watney?" You whispered.
"Not so much a threat as it is a promise," he grinned. "I haven't broken one yet, have I?"
"No... no you haven't," you heaved a sigh.
"That's right..." he leaned in and gently kissed your lips. "Now I need you to promise me something."
"What's that?"
"That you'll talk to me... It's not good for you to keep all of this in. Ever since I got back, you've been my greatest form of support. You listen when I need to talk, you help me through every nightmare, you don't baby me like my parents, you've been so patient... I want to be that for you too. Promise me..." Mark pleaded.
"I-" You stammered.
"Please baby..."
Dammit, who were you to say no when he gave you the puppy eyes? "I promise..." You looked down at your hands.
"Thank you," Mark grinned and leaned down so you had to look at him again. "Do you want to try and go back to sleep?"
You grimaced at the thought.
"Got it, no sleep... How about I just hold you then?" he asked hopefully.
You nodded sheepishly before you were suddenly pulled into his strong arms. Mark laid back slowly and cradled you against his side, making sure your head was in that comfy crook between his shoulder and his chest. His legs weaved themselves between yours.
"Mmm," he hummed and slipped a callused hand under your shirt, where he lovingly traced his fingertips up and down your side.
You smiled and wrapped an arm around his waist.
"I love you, Mark," you said.
"I love you too, Y/N," he replied with a kiss to the top of your head. "So much..."
You breathed him in and exhaled slowly. You could feel the fear slowly melting away. It would take some time for it to disappear completely, maybe it never would. But for the first time, you were sure you weren't dreaming. Mark was real. Mark was alive, he was right here.
And he wasn't going anywhere.

Outer Space Themed F/O Questions
[originally posted on the wrong blog, fixing that]
🌟Do both you & your f/o(s) believe in astrology? If one of you doesn't, how do you react to the other bringing it up? Is it something that brings you closer together or bridges you apart?
🔭Do you have compatible signs? If multiple f/os, how many of the zodiacs are in your collection? Any full elemental sets?
👾When it comes to y'all's signs, are any of you the stereotype? Like how cancers' are said to be crybabies for example. Are any of you the polar opposite of the stereotype?
☄️What sign do y'all get confused for? As in if someone were to guest, which incorrect sign do y'all get the most?
🌌Have you & your f/o ever gone stargazing or to a planetarium together? If you have an alien f/o, how does our night sky differ from theirs? How do they feel about Earth?
👽[more for alien f/os] Y'know how a lot of the stories about the constellations involve Greek mythology + how the planets are named after Roman mythology. Well, what stories do they have for the constellations? Do they take from a specific mythology?
🪐Would your f/o be the type to help build a telescope? Are there specific constellations that y'all look for?
🚀For those w/ mechanical f/os, do they feel a kinship with any of the technology still floating in space? Furthermore, how did they take what went down w/ the Mars rovers?

The Curiosity rover made an accidental discovery on Mars – and uncovered a mineral never before found in its pure form on the Red Planet.
As the rover rolled over the planet's rocky surface on May 30, its wheels crushed a section of rock, revealing crystals of elemental sulfur, an unexpected and rare find, according to a NASA news release.
The find was "completely unexpected," said Abigail Fraeman, the Curiosity mission's deputy project scientist. "It's probably one of the most unusual things that we found the entire 12-year mission."
Although scientists have come across many different types of sulfur on Mars, the discovery marks the first time they found pure sulfur.
"Usually, it's coupled with oxygen and other elements that make it into a salt or something similar, but here, what we found was just chunks of pure sulfur," Fraeman said.
Elemental sulfur is bright yellow and has no odor. It forms in only a narrow combination of conditions – scientists didn't expect to locate such a large amount on Mars.
"It's telling us something new about the history of Mars and what sorts of potentially habitable environments it's sustained in the past," Fraeman said.
Scientists nicknamed the 5-inch sample of yellow sulfur crystals "Convict Lake" after a lake in California's Sierra Nevada mountains, according to NASA.
Curiosity snapped photos of the piece of sulfur using its Mastcam, a camera mounted on its head at around human eye level, with a color quality similar to that of two digital cameras, the news release said. The rover later detected the mineral using its Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer, attached to the end of its robotic arm.
Curiosity found the sample as it traversed the Gediz Vallis channel, which runs down Mount Sharp, according to Fraeman. The discovery came after scientists directed Curiosity towards a brightly colored field of rocks, she said.
Curiosity has been climbing the 3-mile-high peak for a decade, the news release said. The area is rich in sulfates, a sulfur-based salt left behind when water dried up billions of years ago.
NASA scientists say the channel is one of the main reasons they sent Curiosity to Mars. They believe it was carved out by streams of water mixed with debris, as evidenced by the rounded rocks found in the channel that were likely shaped by the flow of water, like river stones. Some rocks also have white halo markings, which also indicates water.
Fraeman said it will take more time to figure out what the discovery could mean about the kind of environment that once existed in the area.
"Right now, we're kind of analyzing all of the data we collected and trying to figure out what observations we can make that can either support or cross off some of these environments," she said.
Curiosity searches for evidence of life on Mars
The discovery came on the 4,208th Martian day of Curiosity's mission, NASA said. The rover landed on the planet's surface nearly 12 years ago with the objective of investigating whether Mars was ever habitable.
And it succeeded – early in the mission, Curiosity uncovered chemical and mineral evidence that the planet's environment was previously habitable for small life forms known as microbes.
"We've certainly found with Curiosity that Mars was not only once habitable, but it was habitable for an extended period of time," Fraeman said.
In 2018, Curiosity found organic molecules in a crater that scientists believe was once a shallow lake. The molecules, similar to the molecular building blocks of Earth's oil and gas, showed that the crater was habitable 3.5 billion years ago, around the same time that life developed on Earth under similar conditions.
The $2.5 billion rover is packed with a wide range of tools, including 17 cameras, and 10 science instruments, including spectrometers, radiation detectors, and sensors to probe the Martian atmosphere and environment.
Fraeman said Curiosity has held up surprisingly well – all of its instruments are working as well as the day it landed. Still, the terrain is filled with surprises.
"On Mars, something catastrophic could happen any day," she said. "We always treat every day as if it's precious."

Okay I 'm that one anon who prefaced that I wasn't attacking and I mention that because I didn't know how to re-identify myself
Anyway I agree without you on how poorly they handled Ironwood's downfall but what else you said continues to baffle me as a writer and as one whose trying to grow and trying to incorporate more characters how would you suggest going about topics of emotionally "throwing away ones humanity" if said character has prosthetics?
Like...and understand I'm trying to figure out how to word this. If you were to take...let's keep rolling with James. As he was before the absolutely asinine commentary on what him sacrificing his arm meant. If his prosthetics are just that and not meant to symbolize anything. Can you talk about him or any character or original creation under the idea of what they could be doing to themselves emotionally or mentally?
I'm really trying to find where to go cause it just seems that with disabled characters writing certain things for them is heavily limited as to what can be done because certain attempts at things could be labeled as ableism when that wasn't the intention either in an a stumble at the execution of an idea or because the audience (and I'm not saying this is Rooster Teeth cause holy shit is it not them) took something about what was being done and applied it to an aspect of the character that the creator wasn't even looking at.
On that note what they did in general with Penny and whatnot was odd but what would you do about a character that if they had the choice didn't want a disability? This is a more of an out of somewhere questions cause typing this I always think of the Spirit Fairer discourse where there was apparently a character who had a wheelchair and I guess at someone point didn't have it anymore and was happy about that. But people got so mad that the developers rewrote the story so the character remaind wheelchaired bound, but that just makes me ask is it wrong for a character to want to be able to not have a wheelchair? Like is it wrong to write a story where a character wants to be able to walk? Like how would you go about having a character having a disability and not wanting their disability anymore?
Honestly anon as I said before I just….wouldn’t. To put it another way, what does having someone throw away their humanity add to the story? Why do you feel like you need it? And why does it need to be the disabled person? All people have humanity because they’re human. Trying to have someone throw away their humanity is…dangerous territory because more often then not those stories tend to rely heavily on either disabilities or mental illness to “justify” that and for obvious reasons that is extremely ableist. And even without using either of those things it still can be interpreted by audiences to be the disability or mental illness’s fault and what made them lose their humanity. It’s…far too tricky a subject for me to think ever is worth it to be in a story.
If you’re asking how to make a disabled character evil that’s entirely different because evil people can still have their humanity because they’re human. They just happen to be an evil person who does bad things. Making Ironwood evil isn’t inherently a bad thing, but CR/WBY saying that losing his arm is a symbol of his lost humanity is. Then repeatedly having the villains be disabled is a problem. It’s important to ask “why does the disabled character have to be evil” when making them a villain because so often disabilities are used a short hand for villainous traits which is ableist and harmful and tells disabled audiences that their disabilities are seen as villainous.
It is generally the job of the author to really think about these things and the tropes that they are relying on for their story. As a society so many people view more metal = less human which just isn’t true and is actively harmful towards disabled people. Do you remember at all the Mars Rover Opportunity? How emotional people got when her last words came out “My battery is low and it's getting dark”. My friend from my discord group put it perfectly: Oppy is all metal but she’s human. She wasn’t born, she was created but she was alive. We loved her to humanity. People mourned when she passed. NASA played a love song for her. Her being metal didn’t matter, just as James being half metal shouldn’t matter, just as anyone having prosthetics shouldn’t matter. They are still humans with humanity, and I just don’t see any reason to write a story about someone willingly throwing away their humanity.
So Ironwood "wanting" to throw away his humanity and becoming more monstrous is ableist. Doing this to any disabled character is ableist because their disability will inherently be used as a shorthand for said monstrousness either by the author or audience.
Here are a few good videos that discuss the topic further and really discuss the issues with disabled villains:
youtube
youtube
Some great points the video discusses:
A lot of villains motivation is being "cured" of their disability which stems from this idea that disabled people are miserable and hate being disabled and can only be whole and happy if they are cured. Yes some people would like to have a curse for their disabilities, not everyone wants that and having most villains want that is a problem as it stems from the idea that being disabled is inherently tied to misery and suffering which just isn't true.
It also makes the point about how oftentimes disabilities are used as a visual shorthand for inhumanity in their villains and them merely being disabled and looking "other" is a clue to the audience that said person is evil and even inhuman in far too many cases. We repeatedly see this in RW/BY with Tyrians tail, Cinders Grimm arm, Salem, and James's new prosthetic. All are framed as evil and monstrous to show us how evil they are.
At the end of the day, I think it is crucial to talk to someone who has the disability you want to represent in your work about how you are portraying them. I cannot and do not speak for all disabled people in this discussion and can only really discuss my feelings/the feelings of those I have talked with. When writing disabled characters it is critical to include people with those disabilities in the discussion of how the characters story should go.
