i think fanon has well explored lindsey's complicated feelings of jealousy and desire towards angel, where he wants to be him but also be WITH him, but i think underexplored is his relationship with DARLA, who represents similar desires (a love of "the view," to be desirable, to have control and influence over other people, the power to take what you want), and i think there's a part of him that wants to be angel and WITH darla insofar that it's a hot vampire lady who chooses to save HIM, the most specialest boy, from the unbearableness of his ordinary life, but i also think there's a part of him that wants to BE darla in that he identifies with their shared experiences of having grown up in largely helpless situations but then having clawed their ways to the top through the avenues most readily available to them at the time (sex work, law school), occupations that promise financial independence but are simultaneously dependent on attracting and maintaining clients, so like her he understands the double-edged sword of desirability as both a power and a shackle that vampirism promises to free you from. anyways that's why i think lindsey always has to be the most fuckable person in the grocery store

listen. you all know me. i'm a guy who is very pro-weird and toxic dynamics. that's great to explore in fiction! love it! but i'm going to be honest. the fact that every day i have to scroll past fics in the bucktommy tag where the writer has cast tommy, a canonically gay man, as this abusive violent piece of shit only to have eddie swoop in and rescue buck, while in reality ryan guzman is out here consciously playing eddie as getting violent against buck, is really fucking irritating. and i'm never going to tell people to stop writing whatever they want, but i wish i didn't have to fucking see it lmao

how willingly would you say that cass would refer to her brothers as “her brother”? ive seen a fair amount of times she’s called bruce her father and barbara “like a mother” and ik she sometimes just talks about the entire family as a family, but i think the only time i can remember a “brother” is hallucination!cass as dick’s ghost of christmas future which im not sure counts
Honestly you've covered about everything, I also don't recall a time she calls them 'brother'! To be fair after her adoption editorial shenanigans conspired to kick her out of the family, so not much room for 'brother-ing' until recently.
The closest thing I can think of is Batman & The Outsiders #11, when Duke calls her "sis" and she responds to him. This doesn't prove that Cass calls him brother, but it's the closest thing we have to an explicit 'brother-sister' mention. Like hallucination!Cass in Dick's head, it's more likely that her brothers call her 'my sister' than she'd say/think 'my brother'.
This makes sense to me because Bruce, Babs, and Steph are her most important people, and none of them are her brothers. So when she's thinking about them she's more likely to lump them into 'my family' / people I love (like Batgirl (2024) or Spirit World). If she's talking about a specific brother, she's also more likely to use their names a) for efficacy and b) because she prefers to use names in general. I do have a feeling Brombal, because he's emphasising Cass' familial relationships, might write in a 'brother' sometime in the current run though!
But if anyone has an instance where Cass calls someone brother please share!!

Sorry for the weird fucking post but like tumblr straight up ate your ask?? I had to search and screenshot from my email??
Its like super fine I love big rants and big feelings (especially about the blorbo of the month).
Whoa buddy if you wanna talk about a rant. This got so long I'm putting it under a read more.
I'm not sure any of this is above board conscious thought process. When he looks to Orym, when he thinks about how he feels about Orym, I think Dorian, king of compartmentalizing, gets a rush of all three of the things in the post. He gets a little too lost in thought looking at the way Orym's hair now tries to curl against his ear or how well tailored the armor is to his body, he first gets hit with the Will guilt. Then he thinks about "ohmygodtheresawaron" and he'd shovel all of that down. Because its not time to think about Orym and him. But he knows by the way Orym watches him "sleep". He knows by the way Orym refused to be princess carried in Aeror. (Seriously dude Dorian princess carries everyone. It would have been less suspicious if you let it happen). He knows because Orym didn't see his husband when they were in Zephrah. But when he dares himself to actually think about a possible future together, he uses the big three to shove it down. And no, he has no clue that Orym thinks he doesn't return his feelings. (Wow you're right. Pronouns are hard)
Lol to finally answer your question: I'm not sure! Because the thing is! Orym has gone down twice in a battle with Dorian there! And honestly if Orym being on death's door doesn't make either of them confess, i'm not sure what will! (thats a lie I do have an idea). But like Orym went to the moon and back and almost died on the moon and all the count communicate to Dorian was "I miss you"!! Orym nearly died twice in one battle and he didn't think to give Dorian a sloppy, "If I die again I want to have kissed you once" kiss before going in for another round of getting hacked on. Dorian watched him go down and had to bring him back from death's door (one failed save scared the shit out of me) and he didn't think to give Orym a "We need you, I need you" kiss.
My unfortunate thought process, which I can't decide if I want it to come true or not, is that Dorian has to get hurt. Like when I say hurt I fucking mean it. Taken down in a round or two, two failed death saves, hurt. Because then Orym will have to face losing Dorian again. Face losing the man he loves, again. He pours a healing potion into Dorian's mouth because warlocks don't have a single healing spell. (Just checked). Orym feels so helpless in saving Dorian, because a healing potion isn't nearly enough to keep him up. He starts to cry over Dorian's (now conscious) body. He whispers between sobs "Not again, not again. Dorian you can't leave me. I love you, please, I never got to tell you, please stay alive." and Dorian, having heard all of that, reaches up to cup Orym's cheek and says. "Alright, just for you though."
Or something like that.
As much as I would love for them to be adults and just talk to each other. I know thats not going to happen. (Please, Robbie, Liam, prove me wrong.) So I think major tragedy will be the reason they confess to each other. Because they're idiots in love with a lot of weight on their shoulders.

So that using Price as leverage idea against Nik.
Would Nik’s captors also kidnap Price or simply just threaten to do so?
Would they keep Price somewhere separate so Nik couldn’t speak to him or would they just threaten to shoot Price in front of him?
When would Nik crack?
ooh it could go in a lot of ways and they're all so good i can't choose 😵‍💫
But, if you want Nikolai to break, let's go with both of them being captured. It's Nik they want, it's information that only he has. (C'mon, with the things that guy has been through, I'm sure SOMEONE out there wants this man dead/captured lol) So the only way to get to him is by Captain Price.
I think if they simply just "threatened" to harm Price while he's not there, Nikolai wouldn't budge. Its nothing new, he sees through their bluff, he knows by the time they get to John, John and the boys would already be alert. (seeing as Nikolai is missing)
Now, where to keep Price. I feel like it wouldn't be their first time dealing with something like this (being captured), and they both trust the others ability to make it out of there soon. That is, considering they're separate. Because John's also tough to crack, he wouldn't make it easy on them.
But put a bloody and bruised John Price in front of Nikolai, and that's when shit gets serious. This man has endured all sorts of torture before, but this is by far the worst. The one thing he values the most in this world, right there in front of him, being threatened.
Price knows this, he can't do anything about it but beg Nikolai not to say anything. There is too much on the line, too risky. He doesn't care what happens to him so long as the captors don't win. Maybe he can't speak, maybe he can, but he's still begging Nikolai not to say a word.
Nikolai on the other hand lost all rational thinking the moment they brought Price into the room. He can't think straight, his head is ringing, heart pounding. It breaks Prices heart to see the man in such a state. He's bruised up also, but the sheer look of terror on his face when Price enters the room is something he'll never forget. Nikolai is seething. How dare they take something so beautiful and ruin it. Nobody touches the Captain.
If he was by himself, he'd already be on his way home. But now he's got nothing. No escape plans, no tricks up his sleeve. There is Price's life on the line and his only hope is the 141 finding them soon. He doesn't doubt they're searching, he just prays they make it quick.
So.. he'd maybe resist at first. Coming back with smart replies, trying to negotiate. Eyes flickering between the men and Price, who's currently on the floor, blood dripping from his head. Trying to stall, just enough to not let anything out before the boys arrive. But each passing minute his hope wears thin, with each blow Price takes his heart stops. He can't do anything but watch. And when exactly does he break? The moment the muzzle touches Prices head, the world stops spinning.
For the first time since he arrived there, his tough guy act drops, his voice cracks as he shouts, "Wait... Please." Theres a click from the gun.
Price barely looks up at him, trying to stay focused and not pass out, voice hoarse as he whispers; "Nik.. Don't."
Nikolai's reasoning is long gone, he just begs them. "I'll tell you. I will! Just.. put the gun down."
Nikolai's tears stained face and horrified expression is the last thing Price sees before a gun hits the back of his head and knocks him out cold.

wait do you actually hate myfairkatiecat
actually, yes. the other day, she found out where i live, broke into my house, and left sixteen cardboard cutouts of keefe in my living room. my cry of agony was still ringing through the room when i went to my room, only to discover she'd highlighted every single mention of keefe's name in all my kotlc books, drawn hearts in the margins of all the sokeefe scenes, and cracked my spines in the process. this is unforgivable.
@myfairkatiecat why would you do this to me

okay sorry for the confusion yes he is. but he doesn’t wanna be
imagine if you got your brain stripped out but you had a magic failsafe in place so I guess instead of turning into a mindless drone you just reverted back into your child self And managed to stick around in your original form as a spectre so you could yell at your child self anytime your child self didn’t meet your expectations or do as good as they needed to to be as successful in life as you were.
Tumblr media
that’s what’s going on. as far as I understand it and the jury’s still out on the details given the fact that no one else who got the same brain-wipe seems to be nearly as coherent and capable as him nor did they turn into actual children like he did. baby pep doesn’t like getting yelled at all the time and is being raised in a very different environment than original pep was so he’s not the same person emotionally but he’s basically just. if peps had to start over from babyhood, but with his adult self looking over him criticizing his every move to his face and his moms are all settled down together and domestic instead of volatile and mid break-up

Weird question. On the 'killing people is bad' post. Do you think enhanced interrogation techniques (polite way of saying torture) are okay? And the unnecessary hospitalization and severe injury of 'criminals'? High levels of Surveillance of population? Making schemes to take down your friends and storing them such that they can be stolen? Fear Lobotomies? Putting 'criminals' in the same justice system that has the Suicide Squad? Arkham Asylum having canonical abuse of patients as well? Where did you get the idea that all the heroes were ethical outside the killers?
disclaimer: I am not the definitive expert of what is and isn’t right. I am not God, I am not by any means the authority of morality
no I don’t support torture. Nor do I support mass surveillance. Or systemic abuse in facilities such as asylums or prisons. I never said that all heroes are ethical besides those who kill. All I said was I didn’t like the glorification of punitive murder. I was annoyed by all the posts, comics, movies and other sources that hype up characters like Jason Todd, claiming their way of handling criminals is superior when it’s just the death penalty but carried out by one guy.
comics are very popular with children as are movies and shows about superheroes. By having these characters kill and the source justify it, it leads those kids to think dangerous ideas.
(Now another disclaimer: this is not a Seduction of the Innocent point, I don’t believe comics are corrupting the youth, nor do I want them to stop handling dark themes.)
im sick of characters who believe such things as, ‘some people simply deserve to die’ or ‘killing criminals is ok because they’re bad’ being glorified in media. And I’m sick of how fans have picked it up. It’s fine if a character has a complex moral code, or if they do bad things. I would just like them to actually be treated as bad things. kids reading these comics aren’t learning that. They’re learning that it’s ok to kill people if they’re a “bad person”, which is a dangerous mindset to have.
TL;DR: Killing people is bad. Full stop.

alright, since the Remedy brainworms got me I've been replaying Control, got to the AWE expansion last night and picking up on all the echoes/foreshadowing for Alan Wake 2 is making me go utterly bonkers, but like. has anyone picked up on or talked about how in all of Alan's Hotline messages to Jesse, when he's writing about her POV, he exclusively calls her 'Faden'
like, maybe it didn't poke my brain the first time I played it since he does the same thing when talking about Hartman, but coming from AW2 it's pretty jarring as a stylistic oddity...almost like there's a reason (in-universe and/or out-of-universe) that he doesn't call her 'Jesse'...almost like there's only one Faden in his story...
and given how in AW2 we also get some (quasi-) clarification regarding the limits of Alan's ability to "make stuff up" vs alter and rewrite "real-world" events that he sees in clairvoyant flashes...given the Night Springs screenplay pages you can find in AWE that parallels the FBC and the events of Control (i.e. a Director and a Scientist opening a portal to another dimension, finding an eldritch Entity, the Director trying to take its power for himself and then getting taken over before shooting himself)...given how literally all of the "dreams" Dylan tells Jesse about are descriptions/viewings of stuff that takes place on one level of reality or another ("I was the director and you were an intern"; "we were in a game, and it was a fucking boring game but you couldn't stop playing it"; Mister Door, and "a world with a writer writing about a cop, and another world where the writer was real"; a "musical" about Jesse), except, seemingly, the dream about "Jesse Dylan Faden"...
guys. are you picking up what I'm putting down here. guys. GUYS

i just do think that a lot of leftist conversations surrounding works of art that want to talk about violence or god forbid pacifism at all are severely limited. which isn't to say that i don't believe violence can be a liberating force or that some narratives around all violence being bad are poorly written. but it can so easily spill over into this extreme way of reading that basically considers all literature and media to be guidebooks for real action rather than just kind of authors giving an idea a ponder lmao. like. i think stories that talk about how hurting other people can provoke complicated, even negative emotions in us have value
so seeing people argue that wicked is too liberal or whatever because elphaba didn't want to hurt the kids to get to madame morrible is always kind of funny to me. like 1) it always reads as I'm A Tough Guy posturing to me 2) people complaining it's just a transparent thought experiment when like yeah duh it is lol you got em there 3) i don't think the book is even necessarily saying she made the right call on that one; if she'd successfully killed madame morrible at that point a lot certainly would have been different! there's no guarantee that fiyero would have lived but it's certainly a possibility, and either way i think it would have changed the way elphaba saw her own agency in the world at the very least. i think we are supposed to consider it and ultimately look back on it and go maybe she should have risked killing those kids.
but beyond any moral argument i think it's another case of totally ignoring the actual themes of the book as it stands in favor of a surface level reading that takes everything in the book as "truthful" and at face value. the story is clearly fixated on the difference between good and evil without ever giving totally clear answers, but one of the few it seems to lean towards is the idea that children are uniquely positioned to be good, and are slowly morally weakened as they age and grow more knowledgeable about the world. which is an argument that also doesn't exist in a vacuum! maguire has a PhD in children's literature and when you pair that with how clearly he is writing wicked as a kind of excavated Victorian novel it makes sense why he might engage with these ideas.
both boq and glinda have scenes that associate their sexual awakening with death, the fact that it's also a pseudo-campus novel about how much potential college students have in their youth that they slowly either cash in on or lose entirely as they settle into their adult selves, and the positioning of dorothy v lurline as child saints that can (in dorothy's case, inadvertantly) save oz really all speak to this kind of perspective that children and adolescence are a precious class that need to be carefully guarded and are also capable of radical change in part because they can see the world and it's problems with new eyes.
AND THEN you pair all of that with the fact that elphaba is positioned as the only child within the narrative that sees herself as of unworthy of that supposed purity. she takes on so much shame from her childhood, and ultimately from how frex perceives her as a spiritual punishment, that she literally believes she does not have a soul as an adult. so it's kind of like she is at odds with the moral calculus of the entire narrative in how she perceives herself, and watching her struggle with moral issues generally is interesting because of that but anything that has to do with children specifically even more interesting. also. she very much almost certainly killed manek aka a known child via magic bad vibes glare so like. what's going on over there

#it’s actually incredibly tragic . but that does not mean the prototypes cannot be fun#like ohhh every second i think about them i know they are destined for frankly horrible deaths . just due to the nature of their existence#i’ve been approaching pvp2003 by mostly just . fleshing out the things that i need to as they come up . Mostly#the the anesidora prototypes have been horribly neglected . on the account of not really being important to calypso’s development LOL#but that does need to change . and maybe that Will change if i play around with them some more#always feel like such a freak when i kill my own characters sorry like yea … i made a guy … AND THEYRE DEAD BTW. but what can i sayyyyy .#calypso’s Whole Thing is abt death and rebirth . somewhat literally and somewhat figuratively#ten dies and becomes anesidora (real actual literal death. less literal transformation)#anesidora dies and becomes calypso (purely metaphorical)#calypso dies and … stays the same? she should be someone else but she doesn’t really have it in her anymore to become someone new#<- (not literal? but not Entirely hypothetical. she got blown up and was dead but she got better)#the anesidora prototypes that came before her Also struggled heavily with identity . Most of their downfalls boil down to a very violent ego#death . ego death#anesidora 1-8 dealt with identity as clones . identity as robots . dysmorphia as robots . also just generally poorly thought out designs#how fucked would it be to wake up in your cool new robot body built for fighting and it just Doesn’t work off the bat . <- A-2#they figured That out by A-3 but A-10 (calypso) was the only prototype to make it into field testing#i love A-9 . 9 is really exciting to me bc she is a question i’ll never answer . what happened to her ? wouldn’t you like to know.#all i’ll tell you is that she never made it into a robot . maybe she’s still out there . Are Buck and Dave aware of HR? Why did Brian create them? Boredom? From your doodles Dave seems chill with HR but what do the two think of each other?
Sorry I got a lot of questions and sending it all in one ask seems smart
Buck and Dave are fully aware of High Roller! High Roller works as HR (CR? PR?) and is quite friendly with most of the other managers and employees in COGS.Inc
One day, Buck and Dave did something so absurd, that it got the both of them fired (Evils and I don't know what this incident could have been, but our guess is that Buck ended up becoming too powerful to an eldrich degree somehow, probably through contracts with Dave, and ended up using some kind of crazy power through his slot abilities?) Well, Brian decided why not use the scrap of Dave (Brian is fully aware that there is something going on with Dave,,) and Buck and see what happens, so he did.
Once his experiment was done, it finished itself; grew its own skin, more intricate wiring, and finishing touches, and its title appeared on its blueprint page: High Roller.
Brian has been fascinated with this strange occurrence ever since. Now he knew something had to be up with Dave; and besides, of course he built a new Buck, but he never built a new Dave,, and yet the next day Dave was walking around the office again, despite Brian having used his scrap to create High Roller
Dave and High Roller are very good friends! There's something going on between the two of them, omg xD Dave and High Roller keep jokingly flirt with each other and talk to each other in ways they wouldn't with others, and they also do things for each other that they wouldn't with others; but they treat it like a joke, so who knows what's going on between them other than it ain't gay to kiss your homie goodnight; such close friends that you can wake up hugging in the same bed; such close friends that you can joke about clacking keys and having long drinks over at each other's houses, etc
Dave likes to go to High Roller and pull little pranks on him, like keeping his chair cold; he and High Roller like to gift each other money (they're like two artists passing around the same 100 bucks); High Roller likes to gift everyone little rubber low ballers, but he especially likes to give silly little ones to Chip and Dave; Dave goes to High Roller's office every so often so he can clang in his corner; High Roller and Dave like to help each other out all the time, and other people they enjoy, and jokingly bicker with each other when it comes to money (they both get into quarrels about who will give who more money or who gets to chip in most when helping other's, etc; they're silly); Dave doesn't normally go to anyone for his thoughts or feelings, but he has been going to High Roller a bit more often for it,,
Buck is a new Buck, and doesn't remember the close bond he had with Dave; but Dave is still Dave and he remembers everything, mi compadre; High Roller is her own separate entity, they don't count themself as Buck or Dave or a mix of them, and Dave and Buck don't count High Roller as such either
I hope this answers everything!
