SIGN UPS FOR THE MCYTBLR YAOI EXCHANGE HAVE OPENED!
To participate in this event, please join our discord for easier communication.
Link to the FAQ for our gifting requirements
As this might be someone first time signing up via AO3's gift exchange matching system, this will be a detailed guide on how to do so.
You can edit your sign ups until they close August 7 at 11:59pm EST.
Guide on how to sign up underneath the cut!
Guide for Sign-Ups!
Link to collection where you sign-up from
Highlighted below is where you click to sign-up
Tumblr media
At minimum we want you to have three requests and three offers; if you have more rare pair options, ones that you don't think people are going to offer please have a safety option available.
Ordering of requests does not matter, they all have the same priority. You will be creating/receiving (1) one gift.
There are several different ways to fulfill the minimum requirements if you cannot for whatever reason, like having character-specific or pairing-specific requests if you are not in enough fandoms.
A pairing-specific example would be ZITS (Hermitcraft) and ZITS (Life Series), which could be separated out into two different requests.
Below is a Scott Smajor specific request example focusing on Empires SMP and Life Series.
Tumblr media
You can even customize your request to include crossovers (this should be one of your 4-10 requests).
Tumblr media
If you have reached the point of trying your best to manipulate the sign ups to your needs please contact a mod for additional help.
Gift Types:
If you plan to choose gift type: other at sign up,choose at least one of the other main categories and inform a mod of what your alternate creation would be.
Relationships:
Before sign ups we had a nomination period where people submitted pairings they wanted to request/offer. If you did not find your desired paring please drop your request in #questions-for-the-mods on discord to add to the tag set.
We currently have 302 available parings from 20 different series.
Link to pairing spreadsheet
Ratings:
For ratings, you have to choose one or both of the options available (Gen and Explicit). We are purely filtering for NSFW content.
If they only select Gen, that means they only want a non-explicit piece. If people are opting into explicit that means they're okay with NSFW, when you choose explicit AO3 will default to showing E in the symbols quadrant.
Description Box:
This is where you list out your DNW (Do Not Wants), wants, and prompts in as much detail as you like.
Add here if you wanted to clarify anything like pairing, since they all had to be unique— meaning it can't be repeated for a request if you used it in another request.
There is an optional option to add an URL link to each request; you can link a google doc of your DNW's/wants/prompts in more detail if you do not have room in the description box. Include the bare minimum DNW in the desciption box for mods can see more readily see if anything has been violated.
You are not required to fill out the description box for offers.
Treats:
Treats are additional gifts that you can make on top of your assigned gift, either to another person or to the collection itself. They have no minimum requirement.
Treats are opt-out, please write somewhere on your requests that you do not want treats.
In the end this is what your request would look like to your gifter. This was for a different event so the formatting is slightly different.
Reminder that sign ups close August 7, 11:59 EST

The F1 feeder series masterpost
In recent events, like Oliver Bearman's F1 debut in Jeddah, him, Jack Doohan and Kimi Antonelli joining the grid as rookies in ‘25, Liam Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto also being discussed to get a seat and the reveal that Franco Colapinto would replace Logan Sargeant at Williams, feeder series’ have gotten more and more attention. A lot of people have no starting point to get into feeder series’ though, and struggle to understand the influence they take on F1, and that's what this post is for. This post includes everything you need to know about feeder series, and if you’re interested, you’ll find discussions and thoughts about common topics between fans and clarification on common misconceptions and anything else one might need on this blog.
Before we start into the topic; this post is incredibly long and detailed, thus there is not only a table of contents below to navigate it easier, but if you want to, you can also read it via the google doc. More discussions and similar posts can be found on my blog under the #wheeltalk
1: What is a feeder series’
2: How to get into feeder series’
3: The history of feeder series’
4: Drivers academies
5: Feeder series and F1
1. What is a feeder series
Feeder series are, in this case for Formula 1, racing series that are supposed to find new talents and develop them, thus the name; feeding them to F1, metaphorically. But in more detail, there are quite a few different feeder series that have developed over the years. They can be compared to stages;
A young driver will usually start their single seater in a series on F4 level, those are the smallest and slowest cars with only 160bhp. There is no worldwide championship, as the drivers are usually very young here and it’s the smallest and ‘cheapest’ of the open wheel series. There are different regional championships in a lot of places, as an example the British F4 or the Italian F4. Interesting to note is though, that these are rather new and there are big differences in the levels, the italian F4 is very popular and bigger compared to others. F4 and most lower feeder series drive by slightly different race weekend timetables to F1 and drive on vastly different circuits due to the regional aspect.
Although it's officially not counted as a feeder series, I would like to add F1 academy, which is a female only championship that follows the F1 calendar. Female drivers participate in that series to gain more attention from sponsors to be able to afford higher categories. Although their cars drive on F4 level, it's international and thus gains a lot more traction than other racing series of that car level.
If a driver is good enough and has the funds, they will progress to the so-called formula regional. Those are, as the name suggests, also regional. Different from F4 though, they are usually on a whole continent. The cars are faster and bigger and the whole event is more expensive. Most well known is probably the ‘Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine’ or short ‘FRECA’. Once again european bias strikes because even non europeans often come to europe to drive here because doing good in FRECA still seems to be better than to do good in another regional series, this is a problem for another post though.
Once again, if a driver is good enough and has enough funds, they can proceed to the next stage. Unlike in F1, they do not get paid to drive for a team but instead have to pay to get a seat, a rather expensive ordeal that can usually only be funded by good sponsors, rich connections or drivers academies that pay up to 100% of the cost. If a driver manages to afford a seat, they can participate in F3. Different from the previous categories, there are only two F3 series, although one is the FIA F3 world cup which is only one event, so most drivers focus on the FIA F3 championship which is not just international, but also follows the F1 calendar.
“Following the F1 calendar” means that they drive on the same circuits and weekends as F1, this helps them not only gain fans but also experience because an F3 race weekend is a lot more similar to F1 than an F4 race weekend and that is not just for the cars. F3 drives a lot less rounds though and almost exclusively in europe.
Last but certainly not least, when a driver graduates from F3 their next step is F2. The FIA F2 championship is arguably the most well known feeder series, almost every F1 driver that has debuted after 2017 has competed in this series, with many having won the championship. The cars are the closest to the F1 cars but it’s also the feeder series that requires most funds, with a seat for a season being estimated to cost up to $3 million.
With all of this in mind, it needs to be added that all feeder series are spec series, so all the drivers in one championship have the same cars to ensure that the championship is reliant on racing talent, rather than the car. Still, they can change small things on set-ups and some feeder series teams are better than others, some series like F2 suffer under the so called Mecachrome, an engine that is super unreliable, so like any other racing series, feeder series have their problems.
Another important addition for feeder series is, that while there are junior academies the championships are not between the F1 teams that you are used to. I’ll explain junior academies later, but if you are watching feeder series it's important to be aware that there are other teams and rules slightly vary depending on the series. In F3, as an example, a team has three cars, but all of these are dependent on the series and you can easily find them out yourself.
For the race weekends it also slightly varies depending on the series; F2 and F3 have one free practice on friday, then qualifying, saturdays there are the sprint races with reverse grid and sunday the feature race. In the reverse grid the top half of the grid gets turned around after qualifying, the pole sitter for Sunday starts on ten, the driver who qualified for ten starts on one and so on. FRECA on the other hand has two full races with two full qualifyings. As mentioned, while I'd love to share everything, feeder series are (luckily) so broad that it's rather impossible. I’ll most likely post some pre-season guides for F2, F3, FRECA,... for the 2025 season though.
This is only a rough overview to show off how feeder series work. All of these series have official websites, social media sites and are easier to access than F1 so they are a lot more ‘fan friendly’. I will go more into detail on how and why these series have evolved the way they did later on, but I need to admit for myself, that I am a huge fan of feeder series because they are, as mentioned before, not only cheaper to attend but also really great to watch for fans and I hope I can help some people find interest in feeder series with this post.
2. How to get into feeder series
You may have seen the uproar around F2 drivers that could make their way into F1 next year, have read the previous text or decided for yourself, you’d like to watch even more racing, then this is the point where you find all the resources on how to!
I need to preface this by saying, feeder series grids are a lot less permanent than F1. Usually a driver only spends one or two seasons in a single series because they try to make their way up the ladder to F1 but also because it's a waste of money to pay for a seat when they could be in a higher category. Furthermore, sometimes seats just change in the season, with Franco Colapinto graduating from F2 mid season, he has triggered a domino effect; someone had to replace him in F2, that driver had to be replaced in F3,... For this reason, I cannot post a grid on any of the series here, for that you will have to visit the sites of the feeder series you are interested in.
What is pretty permanent though, are the teams. As mentioned, the teams are different from F1. Big feeder series teams like Prema racing, MP motorsports, ART grand prix, Rodin Motorsport, ect are present in most categories. By following them on social media you can easily find out who their drivers are and get to know them. I would also recommend following feederseriesnet on social media, it's the most trustworthy news site that covers everything related to the feeder series. Sadly, many feeder series are only covered in comparison to F1 by typical F1 news which is why those are more often than not untrustworthy.
If you question now how people have favorite drivers, then I have really good news for you; in feeder series everything is a bit more fun and to gain sponsors and fans, both teams and drivers themselves are a lot more active on social media than you’d be used to by F1 drivers. I've mentioned it before; feeder series are amazing for fans. There are good chances that you can even watch a race in person because feeder series are actually global and also super cheap, so just look at the F4 or regional championship closest to you.
In relation to this, I especially want to point out Prema. It's not only the most successful feeder series team but also by far the most popular one. The reason why Prema is so popular is on one side obviously the fact that they have won almost every single title in the past years and almost half the current F1 grid were in that team in their junior career, but also their social media presence. The Prema drivers are always by far the most well known and popular drivers in any series because Prema has been posting successful youtube videos for years now and I’ve found it the best way to get to know the drivers. As mentioned, many drivers were at Prema at some point, in feeder series drivers switch teams a lot more often so you’ll get to know about many drivers if you just look back a bit, even if certain teams post less on social media, their drivers will most likely appear in other videos.
If you want to watch the feeder series race, it depends a bit. Most regional championships you can watch free on youtube, but i’d recommend searching it up before you want to watch it. Some also live stream via official websites, really, it depends. F3, F2 and F1Academy follow the F1 calendar. Although they are not at every race, when they are, they just run via skysports, F1TV or wherever else you are watching F1.
In the end it's important to acknowledge, though, that feeder series and F1 are quite different. Feeder series are a lot more race based and things switch faster. For me, it's part of the fun to see more different types of drivers race, there is always something happening, drivers are younger and thus more bold, hoping to impress F1 teams. If you think F1 silly season is stressful, F2 is a lot worse since every single driver has to actually fear for their seat. One downside though is the fact that feeder series, beside Prema, lack a bit of fandom, there are significantly less fans for feeder series and there is a lot less content, less memes but the fans in general are in my experience a lot nicer.
3. The history of feeder series
Especially if you are a big fan of F1, trying to look at old feeder series races or are interested in the history of racing in general, acknowledging the history of feeder series is important to understand them. Feeder series have greatly evolved in roughly the past two decades; the “FIA Global Pathway from Karting to Formula One as it has been established by the FIA only exists in the way it does now since 2014.
Many of the current feeder series have gone through a whole lot of renamings, rule changings and changes in approach; there used to be F3 and GP3 at the same time, with GP3 being somewhat comparable to F3, but the whole problem was that there were many different open wheel racing series without a linear approach to F1. If you look at current F1 drivers' junior careers, you’ll notice how different they look to each other because unlike the way I introduced previously, there was no one pathway. The FIA has established a proper pathway now though, partially to help drivers but also because it's simply needed. If you look at certain drivers like Fernando Alonso, who started his Formula 1 career roughly 25 years ago, you’ll notice that he barely had any previous open wheel racing experience. The reason for that was not only that Alonso is a great driver with potential, but also the fact that F1 cars were simply a lot easier and it was more approachable for young drivers.
Since F1 cars have become more complex, driving has become faster and the F1 championship has become a lot more serious, the evolution of the feeder series have followed the evolution of F1. Racing has changed a lot, from the eighties where you pretty much sat in a car and just raced if you had the money to now, where teenagers train from early childhood on in karts to hopefully join F1 one day, F1 has become a huge sport.
The biggest changes in recent years, following the FIA pathway program in 2014, are the following;
In 2014, the Formula 4 series was invented, to bridge the jump from karts to F3 which has become a lot faster in recent years. In 2018, Formula regional was invented for the same reason as F4; to bridge the gap between existing series. Also in 2018, GP3 and the FIA Formula three European championship pretty much merged to what we now know as F3. the year prior, in 2017, GP2 rebranded to F2 leading to the feeder series being uniformed to all go by the formula title.
I am quite sure we will still see some slight changes in the following years, especially since feeder series are gaining more and more traction as you can see here. All over the world there are also new regional championships starting out, which leads me to one of the most important parts of this; the globalification of feeder series.
Just like F1, feeder series are very european based. Many drivers had to move to europe in order to move up in the motorsport world, but with regional championships like the Formula regional middle east championship gaining traction, i wouldn't be surprised if feeder series become even more internationally, because while they are already a thing all over the world, you can clearly see the difference in F4; the italian F4 is always in focus and drivers from all over the world participate in them, while other F4s are focused more on their use; developing local talents.
4. Driver academies
Now as mentioned before, the F1 teams are not in feeder series, but there are so called ‘driver academies’ but what exactly are those and how do they work?
Well, driver academies are a sort of support system for junior drivers. F1 teams will take good young drivers into their teams. By that, they try to ensure that good drivers get the fundings to become a good future F1 driver. In return, they have contracts with the drivers and (usually) first privilege when it comes to signing them to drive for them in F1.
But there are more advantages for the young drivers; besides the monetary advantages, being a member of a driver's academie helps them greatly. Depending on the academy they are in, they get help when it comes to personal trainers, contracts and sponsors and just in general, being a member of a driver academy makes it a lot more likely that a driver will actually join F1.
But just like in racing itself, the different teams have not only different approaches but also different levels of success. While some junior academies like Ferrari can boast of being known to be incredibly loyal to their junior drivers, helping them get sponsors and become popular and having many of them graduate to F1, there are other junior academies who aren't as successful. Best example for a less successful team is Alpine, while they have many drivers, not many of them graduated to F1, even less with them. Still, in my opinion it's not necessarily a bad thing; a team like Alpine that pays for many young drivers is incredibly important and even better, they have a whole category for female racers.
In the next few days I'll post a ranking detailing a bit closer what exactly the driver academies are doing, so stay tuned!
5. Feeder series and F1
The way that feeder series have influenced F1 in recent years should have become a bit more obvious by now. With the establishment of a proper pathway for feeder series the drivers are a lot more likely to know each other and it's a lot easier to follow. F1 has become this huge sport in which everyone is a proper athlete, with feeder series becoming respected, so do their graduates.
Every rookie since 2019 had to go through at least one of the feeder series and although there will still be changes, especially with driver academies now going as early as F4 to recruit drivers, feeder series become more and more important to F1.
Even if some people aren't as interested in feeder series, many have learned this year that you can't enjoy F1 without keeping the feeder series in mind.
Still, it's a personal wish, but i hope that in the near future (and hopefully by this) there will be more feeder series fans. Although obviously the end goal is F1, not everything in the feeder series has to be about F1. Furthermore, F1 is very different to the feeder series, which is a good thing.
In the end, this whole post is a lot less detailed than i would have liked, but as mentioned multiple times, i will post even more specific texts in the future, but feeder series are such a broad topic that it would be an impossible task to explain every single feeder series because there are so many, and quite frankly, it would also be a bit boring.
If there are any questions left, or one of you just wants to talk about feeder series, request more info or discuss any thoughts, my DMs are always open and I absolutely love sharing all of these.
@the-prophesied-mouse @eve-will-perceive
sorry guys, this was supposed to be finished sooner but work ruined my life. I originally wanted to post it pre f3 final but live is hard. Also i'll be in so much pain if this fails, please.

Oh hiiii um I had a quick question.. Ik I asked one already but can you teach me how to write scripts for videos ;-; I talk way to much without scripts or guidelines and it annoys me SO MUCH I wanna make a video about the problems / issues of rh and there is so much to cover it’s wild and I already see myself sitting there for like 1 hour + rambling about random stuff ;w;
This is going to be a very long answer so buckle up:
All of what I’m about to say in this paragraph is optional. I use Google Docs for my scripts since it’s easy to navigate and format on mobile. Before writing anything, I always make sure to change the font to make things easier to read later on during recording. I also make sure to space out paragraphs and even sentences by their own to make the script more comprehensive. Spacing things out is also a great way to show emphasis on one-liners and avoid too much rambling.
(Just as an additional note: I use Times New Roman in 11pt for my format. You can use any font that you find more readable)
After I’m done with formatting, I always set an outline for the script first. This is extremely good if you struggle with rambling since this is where I brainstorm ideas and points to add in the video. You can be messy with this but be short and concise; Use bulletpoints. Write down what topics you want to discuss, what points you want to make, etc.
After brainstorming, I then organize these bulletpoints into categories that will then determine what my video chapters will be about. If you have several bulletpoints about… let’s say, the Royale High devs, you can put that into one category. Then if you have bulletpoints about the community, you can put that into a category as well. It’s a pretty simple process but can be a bit time consuming when you’re not used to it.
After you got your categories ready, organize them as well and determine which ones you should discuss first. For me, I often go by a chronological order. I either:
Rank them by least to worst (Such as my 30 minute Royale High rant)
Rank them by least important to most important (Such as my latest DWM episode about my interests)
Rank them by time of events (Such as my Kooleen video)
You also might want to get screenshots (+ links) and add them to your document as well so you don’t forget any proof you need to show.
Once you’ve got all that done, you’re ready to start writing. Always remember the outline of your script and use page breaks or horizontal lines to signify where a category ends. You can always write drafts first, organize paragraphs and remove unnecessary rambling later on if needed.
Also, make sure to title each category in your document. Whether it be by numbers or the topic name itself so you don’t get lost navigating through your script. If you’re listing down things in the script, always remember to use bulletpoints to make it easier to read.
( PS: Don’t forget to explain and add context to what you’re talking about. Not everyone will know what you’re referring to so it’s best to first start off the script with a basic rundown of what happened or what you’re discussing. )
Just as an example, here’s a quick sneakpeek into one of the rants I have ready to go for the new channel:
Tumblr media
Hope this helps 🫶 You’ll get used to scripting the more you do it. Just don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You can always delete them after proofreading. Good luck!!

Liminal Void: Professions (like Classes but not really). What are we doing here?
Tumblr media
So I'm thinking about what I'm doing with Professions in Liminal Void. A Profession is like...a class, kind of/sort of? It's got a starting skillset (basically a broad Skill category), a little passive ability that differentiates it, a few changes to being able to recover/reload/recharge in combat, and a starting equipment package (which includes an outfit, a capital-T Tool, and two consumables).
Beyond the mechanical aspects, though, there's a few things I've been thinking about. What is the purpose of this, and should I extend it further?
Worker Professions
If you haven't read the free quickstart, I've got 6 in there:
Laborer
Driller/Excavator
Pilot
Technician
Engineer
Foreman
And I'm also going to be adding 6 more:
Demolisher (person who breaks down ships/station walls/etc, has a big portable-wrecking-ball driver)
Doc (tor, making the distinction that this is probably not someone with theoretical so much as practical medical training)
Janitor (it's a janitor, has a self-propelled waterless cleaning device)
Surveyor (person in charge of measurement, has a ranging/highlight-for-targeting laser)
Sysadmin (has a movie-hacker-style device)
Welder (high-temperature specialist)
The idea is that for any given Level 0 scenario, you can pick 6 of these that best fit it (6 for easy randomization) and go, characterizing it in a different way. Your character is a lot more defined by equipment than this stuff, but it'll make a pretty big difference over time.
I'm quite confident in the first 6...some of the last 6 are kind of a stretch or might be too specific. We'll see. I might also add a few more if I come up with 6 more ideas.
Mercenary Professions
Obviously given the easy formulation (skillset, talent, outfit, tool, consumables) I've been looking at swapping "Tool" for "Weapon" conceptually (given the two mechanically work roughly the same way, it's just that weapons are better at offense, use ammo, and have very few uses outside of combat) and creating professions based around more martial (or non-tool-using) things.
Now. I have mixed feelings about this. The big thing I want to avoid is letting this into A Dedicated Combat Game. It's got the ability to do that for sure, but I want that to be opt-in - if a character is set up just to do that from the word go, it's going to slide way more in that direction by implication. If your character's main talent is "do guns better" then, well, guess what they're going to do, probably. I don't really want to set players up to just do that.
On the other hand, though, it's not like taking on mercenary contracts isn't a part of the game, and that can involve hiring help - or if someone dies, maybe that hired help becomes a permanent fixture. (Or even before then, I strongly promote the idea of troupe play for this.) And for that matter, some people just have a more martial outlook on life. Not everyone started their career as a space plumber or whatever, or even if they did, it's not really always the most relevant thing about them, you know?
Right now the compromise I'm thinking is:
Backgrounds that leverage 6/12 of the weapons (basically, not the more situational/"heavy weapon"/"this is basically only for cops" ones). Right now I'm thinking:
Hunter (typically of the bounty kind, has a Revolver)
Infiltrator (sneaky bastard, has a Rail Pistol)
Investigator (private eye/intel, has a Laser Pistol)
Marine (boarding/CQC specialist, has a Shotgun)
Sharpshooter (what it says, has a Rail Rifle)
Soldier ("being in firefights" specialist, has a PDW)
Explicit guidance to not start with these these at Level 0 for characters, except if it makes sense through play. For example in Escape from CICP-1 there are a few corpsec soldiers and raiders that could defect, so if one of them joined the party that could make sense, but everyone starting out is going to have a Worker Profession.
Guidance as to how best to use these when starting at Level 1: basically, make sure that your Background is something that helps them gel with the rest of the party.
Integration in play: describe what kinds of characters you meet and hire with these kinds of backgrounds. Explanation of retraining at Tier too, like if you were an Engineer but you basically only shoot people nowadays maybe that part's not so relevant anymore.
But we'll see. I might just put a bunch of the Talents I was gonna use for those 6 into a list for players to take during advancement.
Conclusions
As usual, I have none other than "I'm gonna try some shit out and hope it works", but I still like making a final header for these writeups so here you go.
Once again, there's a free quickstart for this game if you're interested.

Rec Blog Template Creator (For General Use)
A lot of the appeal of hosting a rec blog with other people is sharing the work. I don’t have to spend more than five to ten minutes a week writing anything up, and I automated the formatting, so that’s another five to ten minutes.
But it occurred to me that I could just, like, fill out a single-user version of the google form and just publish it when I got enough responses, or once a month, or something else. And if I filled it out at the same time I wrote a comment, I wouldn’t really have to spend much time thinking about what to write.
So, I modified the google docs I created for @aeor-is-for-reccing to be suitable for one person (taking out the themes randomizer, removing some of the duplication work, and adding a pairing field), and I thought I’d share it with everyone else. You can see the original explanation here (or just go to aeor is for reccing, you can see it).
Short version remains: google form -> google sheet -> mail merge to now-html format -> copy and paste to tumblr
We still need four documents for this:
1. The Google Form. This is a copy of the form I use, you can create something that looks like it.  Just go to google drive and create a new form.
2. A Google Sheet with all the responses. The easiest way to create this is to make a copy of this sheet into your own directory, then under google form, select Responses.  There should be an option at the top right to connect or link to a sheet, and then select an already existing sheet - the copy of this sheet you made onto your own drive. You’ll have to reconnect all of the formulas onto your own responses sheet, but there’s an explanation of all of the formulas in the explanation tab to make this easier.
3. A google doc with whatever formatting you want to use. Here's a copy of what I'm using. If you're doing mail merge a different way, you might not need this one.
4. A second google doc that's going to hold the output from the mail merge. It's a blank google doc. Just open up a new one and save it something you'll remember in the future. (used for mail merge, might not be needed if you do it a different way).
The Scariest Part - Formatting
I’m formatting these using mail merge, and I wrote my own code to make it work. You can use extensions that do the same thing! I just don’t know which google office suite mail merge extensions are actually designed for creating formatting and not sending mail, and it was faster for me to code than figure that out.
You can find the script under the script for mail merge tab in the google sheet. Copy your forms’ ID where appropriate (it’d be the part after /d/ in the URL - for example the sample google sheet’s ID starts with a 1 and ends with an 8), make any other changes you need to, and then copy the script into the pop up window that shows up with Extensions -> apps script.
The first time you try to run it, google will send you a warning that this is an unverified script - go under advanced options and then read the fine print at the bottom.  If it makes you feel any better, here's a youtube video that explains the entire script from start to finish.
Once it’s set up, how to use:
1. Set a category - doesn’t matter what, into both Question 1 of the google form and Formatting!B2 2. Fill out the form for a while, just when you comment or bookmark on something, whenever you think about it. 3. When ready to post, open up the google sheet and run the mail merge script 4. Open a tumblr post, click the gear in the top right and change the formatting type to html 5. Paste what’s in the output google doc (doc #4) into tumblr 6. Add tags, any graphics you want, a cut, ect, and post! 7. Repeat step 1 with a new category
And that’s it!

Tumblr media
Hello! As finals season (aka 5-research-papers-due-in-a-week season) dawns on many of you, I thought I would share the process I used to write papers in college. This made writing long research papers much less daunting (but can also work on shorter papers). I really hope this helps some of you who feel stuck. Especially during these ridiculous times, when you're stuck at home and might have other uncontrollable factors affecting your mental health, a clear framework of what to do could be helpful. Good luck, my friends! You got this.
About me
I graduated college in 2018 with degrees in Political Science + International Studies and will be starting law school this fall. I wrote nearly 20 15 to 25-page papers, never earning below an A. I loved researching about my topics but hated writing. It's tedious, takes so much time, and everything I write sounds bad at first. Plus, I was a terrible procrastinator so most of these essays were written in under a week. Talk about stress.
Over time I found a process that worked for me, one that made churning out a paper seem straightforward, like going through a factory line rather than this terrifying concept of writing 10,000 words. It kept me sane without decreasing the quality of my work (or more importantly, how much I learned!)
I'm thinking about making a short video to show this in action… let me know if that could be helpful!
Step 1: Research
How you organize your research is a key step in keeping you sane. Usually I'll have a pile of 20 books in my dorm along with dozens of JSTOR tabs open on my laptop, and that can get overwhelming very fast. Right now just focus on collecting ideas, not developing an argument or even an outline! As with most research papers, you could be starting with little to no background information on the topic, so it is still too early to be thinking about an argument.
Put all your research in one document
Open up a new doc: this will be the heart of everything. For a 15-page paper I usually end up with around 14-18 pages of typed research, 10 pt font, single spaced, tiny margins. This seems like a lot, but essentially all I do is type up anything I read that seems relevant to my topic, so luckily this step does not require that much brain power. Just type type type!
Use the table of contents
Find the chapter(s) that are actually relevant instead of skimming through the whole book. Time is of the essence here!
Use Zotero, cite right away
You can also use easybib or whatever you're used to, but keep track of your sources. I like Zotero because I can keep a log of all of my sources and copy the footnote or bibliography version whenever needed. Before you even begin reading, cite the source and copy it into your research doc. This will save you so much time later when you have to put in your citations in the actual paper.
Here is an example of what my research doc looks like:
Tumblr media
Full citation is my heading for each source just so it’s crystal clear
I ignore all typos (I don’t think there are any in this part though, go me!) because my head is buried in the book just trying to get all the info down
I always start with the page number so I know what to cite when I go back
Create a shorthand
While typing up research, you might think of something that the author didn't talk about that you'll want to write in your paper. Or perhaps a few sentences already start to form. Put them all in one place, with your research, so you know what source you'll have to cite to then lead into your idea. I type "!@#" before anything that is strictly my own idea so I'm never confused. It's fast and stands out.
Tumblr media
This is an example: the two bullet points above are evidence from my source, which made me think of this argument I could make, which I noted with “!@#”
Step 2: Read Your Research
Now that you have all your information, go back and read through it all. Every time you read about a new theme/person/event, write it down somewhere. You may come up with a list of 20+ different ideas in your research. No matter how small, as long as there is something about it, write it down. Each of these mini themes is going to end up being a paragraph in your paper or combined with another mini theme.
Once you’ve made your list, look for larger overarching themes. In the paper I’ve shown you, I had mini categories like “political party x” “religion” “labor groups” “little organization” and “hierarchy.” When I looked back I though, hey these are all groups and how groups are working together, so they each became their own mini paragraph under the subsection of “Alliances.”
As with most research paper structures, I try to find three general themes/subsections (like an extended version of that 5-paragraph essay we wrote in middle school). It makes the paper less messy and also makes sure I’m not covering things that are beyond a reasonable scope.
During this step, you are also searching for your thesis. It won’t be your final version. As you fill in your outline in the next step you may make slight changes. But this is definitely when you start thinking about it.
Step 3: Outline
We’re ready to outline! Once I’ve collected all my different themes and organized all my subsections and paragraphs, it’s time to fill in that outline. I start a new doc just for the outline and take advantage of google doc’s headings function to make a clear document outline.
Here comes the fun part, I read through my research one more time, this time copy and pasting all my research into each section of the outline. The document outline in google docs makes this easy because I can just click on each subheading to get me there (super helpful when you’re dealing with 15+ pages of research).
Here is what it looks like:
Tumblr media
Let’s say I need to add something to my outline about labor groups. Boom, labor groups. Also, the typos are really abound here haha
Step 4: Write the Paper
Okay, I get it, easier said than done. BUT! You already have everything set up. Your outline is essentially just a list of your paragraphs and all you have to do is paraphrase, cite, and create a topic sentence. And that’s how you should think about this: you’re essentially transforming bullet points into sentences and adding footnotes.
In high school my English teacher introduced us to Sh*tty First Drafts for creative writing, but honestly the same applies to research papers. Sometimes I’ll even have phrases like “wait no that’s not what I meant but basically...” and when I go back to edit, I realize that what came after “but basically...” is fine! And I keep it. So just start typing.
How do you cite while you write? Because we’re trying to get a constant stream of writing going, inserting proper footnotes after each sentence you type is too bothersome. I usually split screen with my outline and my paper so I just copy and paste a few words from my bullet point into my footnote, like so:
Tumblr media
(This is from a different paper about cluster munitions.)
Step 5: Edit the Paper
I work best when I print out my first draft and make all edits in red pen. I feel more productive and can visually see where I want to move sentences and what I need to change. The more red there is the better I can feel the paper getting. (Whether or not that’s true doesn’t matter. We’re trying to stay motivated here!) When it’s all digital I don’t really see the progress. Plus, once I finish all the red, I get another moment of passive brain work, where all I’m doing is transferring edits rather than thinking. And at this point in the process, that kind of relief is much welcomed.
The good thing about this process is there’s not usually a need to cut entire paragraphs or pages because the paper you end up with is just a formalized version of your outline. Because you started with such a detailed outline, the cutting and editing now is just to refine your word choices and get rid of the “but basically”s. You’re almost there!
Step 6: Replace your citations
Now it’s time to go back and replace your footnotes with actual citations. Zotero makes this easy because in Word you can just insert and add the page number, and it’ll automatically do “Ibid.” for you when needed. Ctrl+f in the original research doc to quickly find the source.
Step 7: One More Read-Through and Submit!
Congratulations!! You’ve got a fully-researched and well-backed paper! Of course, even though the process is straightforward, it’s still a lot of work. In ideal situations I would start researching two weeks before the deadline, but if need be, I believe I’ve done this all in three miserable panic-filled days as well.
Please message me if you have any questions at all! I really hope some of you find this helpful! Good luck!

Now I’m curious. What are your current hyperfixations if you don’t mind sharing? If not totally ok!!
OHHHH boy so right now, I have them compartmentalized into various categories and its so fun to talk about.
> my gratitude journal and penny savings. i am doing this challenge to sort of wake up my brain and write down some positive stuff and its so fun and actually addicting. ALSO doing a penny challenge that started up on January first where you put a penny in your savings/piggy bank jar each day. So for example: Jan 1st (1 penny) January 2nd (add 2 pennies), January 3rd (add 3 pennies), etc, etc and at the end of the year you will have saved up $667.95. Its not much, but its fun and I can get myself a lil something nice on new years next year. I like me some goals and I am hoping the stamina isn't only because its a new year
> January no spend challenge. I am single, make a decent amount of money a month, and don't NEED to do this. But I have cut all spending out for the month minus groceries and any emergency expenses. I am biking to work when I need to actually go in, and I have been doing fun things at home and have a few "nights in" planned with friends in the next two weeks and for the first time in awhile I am actually excited for social interaction because lets be honest, going out is exhausting.
> The color Iris. Its so beautiful and pleasing to my eyes right now
>MEAL PREP CONTAINERS AND MEAL PREPPING. I have a bunch of new reusable ziploc bags, these nifty hook things that hold the bags, lunch containers, and recipe books and honestly love just having the challenge of making things for the week in one afternoon session
>Various obscure animes. Currently its Yu Yu Hakusho, The GetBackers, Beyblade, and Naruto. Its been a whirlwind of old anime and I might be able to get out of it soon but very doubtful because I have been pumping out OCs and stories for it in my docs that I can't get over
>The history of Monopoly pieces
>Crafting, specifically centerpiece making. I made an amazing one for the Fall and want to make one for winter and spring now that the holidays are over.
> Criminal minds. I finally decided to watch it and I am binging it so hard. S8 E12 right now and thats not looking to stop anytime soon.
> Vacation planning. This is the furthest west I have ever lived as an adult, and I am planning on taking multiple single person trips over the next 4 years. i am an avid backpacker/hiker and my dad and I want to do a few big ones. Not to mention a few self indulgent trips to places because I honestly deserve that. My pinterest boards are full of ideas and tips
>Cleaning and organizing. I have been watching too much Marie Kondo and as I unpack I have been donating clothes, household items, and other things I just didn't need anymore.
> Furniture building. I am pretty good with my hands and built a shelf recently and now I am looking at blueprints for a custom laundry basket holder I desperately need.
>Star Wars, a given.
>Listening to various police scanners as background noise. There was a guy riding a bicycle naked down a street in my grandpas hometown recently and that just made my day
>Welsh on Duolingo. I have done so much with it in the last week alone >The Same 3 songs on repeat: Du Hast by Rammstein , Leila by Jah Khalib, and Popular from Wicked
> Create an app like "sick weather" but it pulls and partners with doctors offices, schools, and local agencies to map out "symptom sicknesses" and not just like flu and covid and stuff. >Shoes. My god I fucking love shoes right now. Cleaning them, wearing them, organizing them. Help.
>Making furniture out of broken hocket sticks and deciding what to make. I have literally 26 broken sticks in my garage and I need to do something with them. I have gone back and forth for days and currently trying to decide if I want to make a bench or beach chair. that went to me digging deeper into the weight capacity of a chair and the flex of each hockey stick and a bunch of physics and engineering equations.
> U-2 planes. I work with these now and they are so funky. I dive head deep into articles and essays and reports
> Making lists. I have a list for everything right now
>Labeling stuff. I have been throuwing a label on everything in sight and at this point its just instinct
> Fancy beer cans. I have a mini fridge, a bottom fridge shelf, and a whole counter top full of different beer cans right now and I want one from each four pack to add to my empty can collection because I love the art.

Alright boys, girls, and nonbinary folks of the world. It’s 5:36am (1/30 when I first started) as I decide to give up on my attempt to continue to focus on learning statistics, avoid studying for my two upcoming midterms, and put off my two actual essays for two different classes.
Instead we’re going into a dive about ✨ KazuFuuma ✨ . Is this me telling you you gotta ship it? No of course not, you’re entitled to your own ships! You don’t really gotta care about it as a ship. But I do want people to recognize it’s THERE canonically, and how disregarding it is extremely unfair to Kazuki as a character particularly. Also, I’m working on the assumption anyone clicking this at least knows the bare bones about what KazuFuuma (ex. You know they are a ship of Kazuki/Fuuma from Dolce, you know they are childhood friends, you know who Dolce is, you know about Honeyworks, etc.) I’ll be making references to specific things, but I won’t always go into heavy detail. Might just hope you know it or take my word for what it is, and go into analyzing it. Some I’ll put direct references to find, but some I’ll trust you can find it yourself. If you somehow read this MAMMOTH and want reference to a specific thing mentioned, hmu I can help you find it!!
Also I hate tumblr formatting sm if you legit wanna read this 7 page essay but hate tumblr format lmk I'll add it as a google doc link instead too. anYWHO
Before actually getting into the meat of things lemme preface some stuff.
Again it’s like almost 6am so this will be disorganized and very train of thought (and likely long due to the fact when I fly by the seat of my pants I’m known to get unnecessarily extensive). It’s definitely gonna be in large part why it’s important to recognize as a romantic relationship foundation and what about it shapes Kazuki’s character in particular. Maybe a bit of how it’s been built up and its general focus and implications. Dunno yet. We’ll see LMAOO
I say f*ck. Not a lot, just a handful of times. This ain’t something scholarly this is for my own enjoyment so if you don’t like that might not wanna read. And it’s not like spitefully I just curse a lot if you haven’t...read my tags before lol
Again this is through the lens of a Kazuki stan. Of COURSE I’m going to have some level of bias, but if anything that bias may help more than hurt because that means I become FIXATED and think a lot about Kazuki. Which plays into establishing just how important it is that Kazufuuma’s relationship is recognized, especially in a romantic light at this point. Lmfao.
I’ll have a few more prefaces about the actual content below but to keep this from getting too long if you wanna read come below the cut owo
I have extremely limited knowledge of Japanese just taking a few classes in highschool (so like 3 yrs ago) and live in America. This means a lot of my knowledge is gathered through the english translations of the super duper incredible and lovely people in the Honeyworks fandom who provide translations (delaix and takanenene esp have provided so much for me being able to understand Dolce) and my own limited Japanese paired with Google Translate for things that remain untranslated.
This only will be drawing on information I have come in contact with and have access to and making assumptions based on that, most (if not all) of which is in the public domain. So things like the Dolce Manga Volumes released via Animate, exclusive 4komas, and Light Novels are out of my area for the most part (apart from again snippets of translations thanks to this fandom’s godlike and generous translators).
I will not be drawing on anything from the first Dolce album with the exception of Nade Nade. From a meta standpoint, I consider those songs as songs made as performance media as opposed to character explorations. Nade Nade is the exception because (1) it was released a whole year before the album and (2) you can tell it’s explicitly an exploration of Fuuma and Kazuki’s interpersonal relationship even if it’s in a slightly more performance based context than the songs that came out with the Dolce LNs. Easiest parallel I can make to show this is if you held Non-Fantasy, Yume Fanfare, and Samishigariya up against each other, you could tell the difference in intended audience and intended purpose the same way the Dolce 1st album, Nade Nade, and the songs of the LNs do respectively. Even if there is some basis to ground Kazufuuma, for the purposes of this essay I’ll be acting under the assumption the 1st album falls under the Non-Fantasy equivalent category.
THAT WAS A LOT OF PREFACING CONSIDERING LIKE 2 PPL WILL PROBABLY READ IT I just have a tendency to anytime I do anything analytical lay down ground acknowledgements for myself to work on just...cuz it makes me feel less guilty for any accidental misinformation even if I’m writing towards my future self to read lolll IM SORRY WITHOUT FURTHER TO DO HERE’S THE BRAIN DUMP
First let’s go ahead and establish why it needs to be recognized as an important relationship. Again, I’m a Kazuki stan. He’s my favorite character not only of Dolce but also of the entire Honeyworks series, and as much as I love him for reasons outside the ship, whether you like it or not Kazufuuma is an essential aspect of his character and narrative. Of course there’s the fact that him and Fuuma are childhood friends, so that’s going to in part define their characters and interactions with each other and those around them. They’re both going to be relevant to one another and important to one another’s stories to an even greater extent than the rest of the members of Dolce. But on Kazuki’s side at least, it’s an EXTREME amount. A running plotpoint in Dolce Diary is the sheer amount of dedication Kazuki has to Fuuma and how much his thoughts and decisions are influenced by Fuuma, whether it be how he feels happiest spending time with Fuuma, how he decided to get his piercing to represent he wanted to protect Fuuma, how he doesn’t want to dislike food so he can eat what Fuuma dislikes, etc. Not to mention running jokes about his borderline overprotectiveness and downright possessiveness of Fuuma, how proud he is when Fuuma gets praised, or that one 4koma that literally explicitly states he can read Fuuma’s mind when he thinks motherfucking ‘dirty thoughts’ about his childhood friend (Fuuma). I still don’t know what the fuck to make of that last bit. Genuinely. Or the fact it’s a fucking running joke. As in it’s not a one off. It’s been brought up multiple times. Kazuki what the fuck.
That’s not to say that he doesn’t have character outside of Fuuma or he doesn’t interact with people other than Fuuma. He’s great friends with Sara, Girisha, and Kippei and is shown time and time again to have fun interactions with all of them, generally acting as the best support friend for every member of the group, not Fuuma alone. For instance how he helps Kippei with his self confidence issues or stays over at Sara’s to protect him from a cockroach (which he fails at lol). Nor is that to say all his interactions involving Fuuma focus solely on his devotion to Fuuma, especially in instances where the manga focuses on Dolce as a group dynamic (though even in that setting there are times where jokes about his devotion are thrown in). He’s kind, he’s stupid, he’s friendly, he’s an amazing character in his own right, and I love him for all those reasons. But that doesn’t change the fact a major part of his character and his character interactions are rooted in Fuuma, and arguably some of his most interesting, eccentric, and notable behaviors and traits revolve around Fuuma (again the mind reading for example).
Hell let’s take it one step further. If you look at the character bios of the Dolce members, you get everyone’s motives for being an idol and interests. Of them, Kazuki is the only one to have another character mentioned directly, not to mention that supporting Fuuma is explicitly stated to be his primary motive as to why he became an idol. Not even Fuuma’s sister is mentioned, though two arguments can be made for this. The first would be that Fuuma’s backstory about wanting to fulfill his dream for himself and his sister was decided later to explain Fuuma’s choice to crossdress though it can be argued it was intentionally done to leave it as a reveal at a later date, to which I would argue I don’t think this backstory was a choice in post. While Fuuma’s dedicated Dolce Diary extra exploring that backstory was released a little less than a year after Dolce was revealed, the preview to set up Fuuma’s backstory was actually the first thing released after the character bios on the Dolce Official Twitter page if you exclude a drawing of Dolce from Yamako. The second argument could be that information about his sister was intentionally withheld to set up the reveal when Fuuma’s extra released to explore it. However, going by that logic (which I do agree with), that would also mean that Fuuma’s inclusion and importance in Kazuki’s character bio also set up his dedicated extra, which I don’t think would be incorrect to assume considering what his actual extra turned out being.
Which brings me to the thing that makes it inexplicable to write off the romantic implications behind Kazufuuma: Kazuki’s dedicated Dolce Diary extra, Suki. I shipped Kazufuuma before even knowing of Suki, sure. But the fact that Suki even exists is a shock to me and drove into me the fact that Kazufuuma wasn’t just my own projection. Again, it’s not a surprise that Fuuma shapes Kazuki’s life. They’re childhood friends, of course they’re going to be important to each other. But this extra explicitly brought Kazuki’s feelings towards Fuuma under a direct spotlight. At first I was thinking oh, this extra was just to acknowledge the fact that Kazuki and Fuuma’s relationship can have romantic implications, but the end of it the conclusion that we got was that it didn’t matter what type of “like” he felt for Fuuma. Originally, I thought it wasn’t anything more than saying there are all types of like, and it doesn’t always need to be explicitly defined, but I appreciated the fact they were aware that they were writing Kazuki in a way that conveyed romantic implications.
Then I thought about it because, again, I love Kazuki of course I’m going to think about his character extra, and realized...that’s not how these character extras have worked. There are only three character extras out as far as I know and have read: Fuuma, Kippei, and Kazuki. If we look at Fuuma and Kippei’s, each extra had a conclusion, sure, but they didn’t have a resolution. Rather, they were simply setting up explicitly what each character’s primary character arc and conflict were. Fuuma’s extra brought attention to the fact that he’s particularly a crossdressing idol by exploring the motives behind it. His choice to be a crossdressing idol is constantly under fire both by himself and the world around him. He’s not immune to those who consider his crossdressing strange, and a part of his story is both finding people who accept his decision to crossdress and to succeed for himself as a crossdressing idol. It’s an essential part of how we understand and define him as a character and it’s a central part of how he interacts with the world around him. For Kippei, it lays the severity of his insecurity under the spotlight and his journey and motives for improving himself. Again, this isn’t something isolated and resolved in the extra; his extreme insecurity and negativity is constantly affecting how he interacts with practically everyone from his fellow Dolce members to his fans despite the fact in all honesty? He’s fucking insanely talented in his own right, his own brother mentioning how smart he is and how he has amazing reflexes. For Kippei, his negativity is an essential part of how we understand and define him and central to how he interacts with the world as much as Fuuma’s decision to crossdress is to him.
Which brings us back to Kazuki, of course. In his dedicated extra, in the chapter that’s supposed to explore and establish and bring attention to an essential part of his character, the aspect of himself under investigation is how he feels about Fuuma. It’s not just how he behaves around Fuuma, it’s explicitly an exploration of his feelings, on top of the fact it’s explicitly an exploration about whether or not he likes Fuuma r o m a n t i c a l l y. Literally the conflict is spurred on by someone outright asking “Do you like him?” and having to clarify “I mean romantically.” What they decided to focus on for Kazuki’s character and emphasize and establish is that Kazuki’s like towards Fuuma toes the line between friendship and romance. His ambiguous feelings towards Fuuma (if we leave them inconclusive as Suki did) are just like Fuuma’s crossdressing and Kippei’s insecurity in the sense the weight of whatever those feelings may be are seen in how he interacts with the world around him and influences his behaviors. It would be another story if they introduced the potential and shut it down all within the extra, because then his central conflict would to me be less directly open to romantic potential and more simply about how his arc was meant to explore the dynamic of the behavior of an extremely dedicated best friend. The fact that he may be romantically attracted to Fuuma or may be only platonically dedicated to Fuuma is instead something that looms over Kazuki in the same way Fuuma’s decision to crossdress constantly looms over him. It’s what Dolce wanted to point to and say this is Kazuki’s central character conflict and central arc: exploring what type of feelings he has towards Fuuma.
Sure, it can be argued that there’s only three Dolce Diary character extras, there’s not enough to be sure about that being the purpose of the extras unless we get the other two’s extras. First, at this point I honestly don’t know if or when they’re going to release an extra revolving around Sara and Girisha just because not only has it been over a year and a half since the latest Dolce Diary Character Extra (Kazuki’s) was released despite the gap between the first and latest Dolce Diary Character Extra (Fuuma’s and Kazuki’s) were within a year of release but also because the Dolce 4komas and comics they’ve been posting to Twitter have decreased (last one being over half a year ago) potentially due to them deciding to focus on releasing Dolce manga content through the purchasable volumes instead. (This is not particularly related to the Kazufuuma argument, just wanted to put out there my two cents on what Sara and Girisha’s extra/focal arc would be. Based on a large part of the Dolce Diary in conjuncture with Can’t an Idol Fall in Love, I’d argue Sara’s would be his journey to regain his passion for performing, and if it’s not that I’d say it’d be coming out of his self-imposed isolation and opening up to people again. As for Girisha, I have less of a concrete idea but I’m assuming it’d be something pertaining to how people often misconceive him whether it be in tandem with his determination, his optimism and sociability, or his stupidity/ability to ignore those misconceptions and work past them. But Girisha is treated like the comedic relief 90% of the time so I’m not entirely sure, but his primary conflict is definitely rooted in misconceptions of him being his roadblock imo. #MoreGirishaContentPlz) That being said, I personally feel like the three are already enough evidence, especially considering it would be honestly even more cruel for Kazuki’s character-centric extra to be focusing on something that wasn’t essential to his character and character arc, anyway. And though it’s not explicitly stated that these chapters are extras exploring a central character, you can kind of tell based on how they are (to my knowledge) the only Dolce Diary updates with cover/title cards each which include their focal character front and center. So working off that fact, the Kazuki-centric chapter established that a pillar to his narrative was his feelings towards Fuuma and that those feelings are still open to romantic potential.
But if you follow me, this is why up until Can’t an Idol Fall in Love With Another Idol’s release, I was terrified of them writing that off. I would have been ok if it was just an arc that was given attention then continued to actively work in the background, as all the character arcs have been over all of Dolce’s content. The fact that they might be giving Fuuma a love interest and giving Fuuma a love arc while Kazuki’s feelings were still up in the air and were still the primary highlighted narrative for him would have been fucking scuffed. To me, it would be like… why would they make him so Fuuma-centric to the point that even his dedicated chapter was not just focused on Fuuma but focused on the ambiguity and potential of him having romantic feelings for Fuuma, yet reduce him to being Fuuma's designated right-hand man. Don’t get me wrong, friendships are just as important as romantic relationships. But again, rather than conclude Kazuki’s answer in Suki to be that his feelings were of friendship, they left it open ended and allow audience members to be actively aware that Kazuki’s feelings towards Fuuma still had potential to be romantically coded. It would just be so weird to quickly close off that narrative by giving Fuuma a love interest as opposed to letting Kazuki conclude it himself. It would be fucking beyond frustrating for me, at least Eventually, I kept trying to drive my hopes that they would explore Kazuki’s narrative at all down to the ground because it was a Fuuma-centric novel; maybe if anything they’d explore those feelings in his own novel after the fact. But then they kept having little drops here and there of Kazuki being even the slightest bit relevant and I’d go back to questioning “Are??? They??? Is this on purpose??? Do they know what they’re doing or are they just doing this because Kazuki’s just so important to Fuuma as his best friend that he’s there as his right-hand I genuinely can’t tell???” And um. Welp.
Safe to say Can’t An Idol Fall in Love sold me on the fact that they know what they’re doing LOL. And to anyone who thinks that Kazuki’s feelings can still be read as ambiguous in CAIFILWAI as opposed to explicitly romantic - whether it be due to a fear they may pull the “I like him as a friend” card or due to the disbelief that they have an explicit mlm main character in the Honeyworks series - I’d like to cover any bases that may make you think this way. If you think it’s just Kazuki acting like a protective friend, why do you think he calls Yui a rival? If you’ve only seen the MV and think it’s ambiguous or can be taken as the "likfe" for friend, then does that mean you think Yui’s feelings toward Fuuma are also ambiguous or as a friend? With the way Yui responds, she is trying to rival Kazuki’s feelings towards Fuuma. She and Kazuki recognize whatever feeling it is that they hold towards Fuuma, both of their feelings are the same type. I don’t think most people would argue that Yui’s confession about Fuuma was one of pure respect and friendship. Plus, if anything I’d argue of the three characters in the MV, Fuuma is the one whose feelings are left the most ambiguous despite him being the central character. It’s heavily implied that he may be forming feelings for Yui, but nowhere is it established either in the song or in the MV, especially if you compare it to Kazuki and Yui’s declarations or if you compare it to Sara’s feelings for Uru in Can’t An Idol Fall in Love. Fuuma’s romantic narrative here is trying to figure out how he feels for Yui, while for Kazuki and Yui they’ve established a rivalry because they both have mutually established they like Fuuma romantically.
If the MV isn’t enough for you and Suki isn’t enough for you for...some reason…??? You can check out the snippets of the light novel which the wonderful takanenene translated: one which revisits the conflict set up in Suki and one that covers the confession scene in the MV in more detail. If the fact that the conflict set up in Suki (aka the lurking feeling of not knowing if all he felt for Fuuma was only platonic or more than platonic) was specifically reestablished in the LN for anyone who didn’t keep up with Dolce Diary didn’t tip you off that it was something important, his behavior in the confession scene as depicted by the LN definitely should have. He’s possessive about his spot by Fuuma’s side. He doesn’t want that spot to be taken by anyone else. Even if he knows that they can help Fuuma, he wants it to be him. And this line: “Kazuki then trails off his words, quietly saying ‘That’s why…’ and then gave Yui a slightly painful smile, his cheeks turning red,” before he declares Yui a rival and states he likes Fuuma. If you can tell me you read that line and are still on the fence about Kazuki’s “like” towards Fuuma being romantic, please message me and I will see how I can get through to you. Like it wasn’t even just a romantically coded confession. It’s just a romantic confession. That “like” is romantic. And I’m so proud that he’s not only come to understand for himself how he feels, but that he’s confident enough to ask the person he sees as a romantic rival to speak in private and not only clarify her feelings for Fuuma but before she can even do that firmly establishes that he loves Fuuma with conviction. Kazuki my boy I’m so proud of you. *sniffs*
And that’s it for establishing Kazufuuma as at least canonically one-sidedly canon and why there’s not only no reason to deny it but also why denying it is a fucking disrespectful move towards Kazuki. He’s a character, sure, but that doesn’t change the fact you shouldn’t write off his struggle to come to be convicted enough to say it out loud. This has been something weighing on him at least a year, if not more (all I know is it started when both he and Fuuma were in some year in middle school). And as a character in a piece of media, I’ve been saying this the entire time, but brushing it off as non-romantic is literally chucking a fucking pillar of his character’s story into the gutter. And to those who may be saying Kazuki’s confession came out of nowhere and is pandering reread this entire fucking essay again I dare you to do it and tell me to my face it’s pandering. Again. Writing off the buildup as pandering is disrespectful to him, disrespectful to his character and narrative, and disrespectful to the wonderful people who have been creating Dolce so diligently and have crafted this narrative for us. Saying his “supposed feelings” and “ambiguous confession” is pandering is like saying Fuuma’s crossdressing is pandering which. If you say either of those I will find you and I will shank you in the fucking gut. Even if you’re not fully into Dolce, recognize these characters are actually very well developed and executed amazingly, as per every Honeyworks character that has come to exist. I don’t blame you if you weren’t aware of the weight of Kazufuuma, but now that you read this I hope you are. That’s mainly what I needed to get out there, but as follows will be me more exploring how Kazufuuma has been built up and generally waving my hand off at where it may be going. If you want you can dip, thanks for reading up to here because I know I repeated a lot because it’s just. So important to drill into your head and has been something I’ve been hung up about constantly. LOL
As for where exactly they’re taking it from this point on, I honestly don’t know. In all honesty, I didn’t even expect them to take it the direction they did. But honestly, I think the direction they went with it is really interesting and better than I could have imagined, in my opinion at least. Honeyworks never ceases to amaze me with their storytelling and narrative choices, and I don’t think there’s any that stand out to me as being severely questionable that they haven’t reapproached at some point down the line. And, again, I think they’re treating this with a lot of care and deserved respect. So I’m just gonna be gushing about how smart they set it up and how smart they’ve been executing it and maybe my own hopes on the direction it could go.
Whether they make Kazufuuma reciprocated I have no real clue or bearings, but to me my gut reaction is they will. Of course, I’m biased, but again if you trace things all the way back to 2018 and step through Dolce’s content and growth from there, I’d say even if they didn’t know if they could execute it like this and see it to fruition, I’d argue that Kazufuuma has been at least heavily implied since the beginning as a relationship they wanted to explore from both sides of the relationship. Obviously I brought up Kazuki’s character bio already, but if you look at the *goes to count* 5th Dolce Diary update already has a joke jabbing at the fact that Kazuki is technically Fuuma’s type (and the way Kippei and Kazuki excitedly react is so cute). The fifth update. And as stated before there are tons of Kazufuuma moments in Dolce Diary, whether it’s played for comedic effect or played straight (and this is post Suki but oh my god I’ve said it before I’ll say it again get yourself someone who looks at you the way Kazuki looks at Fuuma oh my jesus). But song-wise, I mentioned the one Dolce album song I would bring up is Nade Nade and this is where it comes!
Not only is Nade Nade specifically focused on Kazuki and Fuuma’s relationship as opposed to the whole of Dolce despite being the first song, it included the setup/preview of the Fuuma-centric extra prior to the full release of the Fuuma-centric extra itself and was released early as fuck. Literally between the 6th and 7th update to Dolce Diary. Sure, it could be to isolate them as a duo for marketing purposes (they’re very often the two promoted idols together if the whole of the group aren’t included), but the way it’s established as a perspective song as opposed to a general idol duet is what fascinates me. Anyone who didn’t know about Dolce prior and only followed Honeyworks for music would be first introduced to these characters through this song alone, and maybe this is where my Kazufuuma bias comes from but I was one of those people LOL. I thought it was just a cute one-off relationship that they had set up for the purpose of a song and that it was an implied friends-to-lovers story that would never get a conclusion. Also I mistakenly thought Fuuma was a girl oop-. In the full context of Dolce, this song in part helped establish Fuuma and Kazuki more solidly as a unique duo out of all of Dolce, but it also specifically explored through Fuuma’s eyes just how much Fuuma recognizes and appreciates the unwavering support Kazuki gives him to follow his dreams as he wishes. For Fuuma, he loves Kazuki too, though whether it holds any romantic potential in the same way Kazuki loves him has never been explored to nearly the same extent. But Fuuma appreciates how Kazuki’s remained by his side and does everything he can to support him, so Nade Nade explores how his way of expressing his love and thankfulness to Kazuki is by never saying that he needs Kazuki by his side. He’s glad Kazuki’s always been there for him, and his reciprocation takes on the form of being ready to unwaveringly support Kazuki and not ask for more than he already has, even if it meant Kazuki would be leaving his side, despite the fact that he really does wish they could remain together forever just as Kazuki does. The one point he lets himself say something vaguely close to always wanting to stay together, he gets a surprised expression out of Kazuki and says an ambiguous “suki dayo.” Of course, this it much less romantically coded than what we get from Kazuki in Suki and CAIFILWAI, but there is an interesting emphasis put on it nonetheless. Keep in mind, this is all established through the song, which released long before not only Fuuma’s character-centric extra released but also Kazuki’s character-centric extra released, so there is at least a substantial setup for Fuuma’s feelings towards Kazuki’s being strong as well and possibly grow to be reciprocated one day.
I think for me the most fascinating part about Nade Nade is how they tied it back around to Can’t An Idol Fall In Love with Another Idol. Again, without remembering Nade Nade, I still thought CAIFILWAI was brilliantly explored and executed, even if some people would have preferred no love triangle. But honestly, revisiting Nade Nade makes me trust even more the direction they’re taking with this. Whether or not they make Kazufuuma canon mutually (which. Even if they for some inexplicable reason didn’t I’m going down with this ship.), I’m sure they’re putting a lot of thought into the story, because the last bit of Nade Nade directly parallels the misunderstanding that arose from Fuuma mishearing the Kazuki and Yui. Fuuma is resolved to support Kazuki in any area he’s given the chance, and that explicitly includes if Kazuki had some girl he liked, which is what he assumes is going on. The fact that they tied this back around in the form of a misunderstanding was really really smart and Honeyworks is always so good at parallels and references back to their older songs, but for some reason I didn’t expect this. I don’t know how to say why, but the fact that the song that started it all, kicked off both Dolce and Kazufuuma, was directly referenced both visually in the MV with a cameo at the start and narratively despite the central dynamic being predominantly explored in this story in particular was that of Fuuma and another potential love interest and involves said potential love interest for some reason makes me think that (sorry Yui) this is all planned out for Kazufuuma in the grand scheme of things. That being said, I don’t know if me thinking it was planned all along is just me with shipper goggles, but the idea it’s come full circle nearly 3 years later is not shipper goggles and a very very well done parallel in my opinion, whether this trajectory was their plan for Kazufuuma from the beginning or not. Just wanted to gush about that some more.
There’s more I could go into especially if I went into specific details about interactions or specific implications established in Honeyworks' Dolce content about different characters that would be fascinating to explore in relation to and under the lens of Kazufuuma, but I think this is uh...plenty long enough. Plus, I doubt you'll stop seeing Kazufuuma posts from me so those ideas will probably just be miniposts or somethin.
Back to the overarching point of this segment, idk what they’ll do with this story in the end, but do I think Kazufuuma will canon? I’m used to looking at ships that aren’t explicitly apparent with a sliver of skepticism, but all things considered (as I stated before) yeah. I don’t see reason why they wouldn’t now that they’ve explicitly identified there is a romantic dimension to it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Like to me, the setup isn’t something that would be written off as unrequited? And this doesn’t have to play into why I don’t think it will canon, my personal opinion on the Fuuyui relationship (again albeit through the lens of a hard Kazufuuma shipper lmao) has it’s own merits and is really cute, I find it cute in the way I found Koyuhina cute. I personally never really shipped Koyuhina, and especially since they slipped Kotarou into Ima Suki Ni Naru I was more curious about who this kid was and how he played into things I didn’t really see Koyuhina as something that would come to fruition. Similarly, there’s more importance in the overall sense on Kazuki than there is Yui (considering he’s one of the 5 original and focal members of this generation of idols, this would be natural), as well as the fact there’s just way more foundation and exploration in Fuuma and Kazuki’s relationship than there is Fuuma and Yui. As for how much of a balance there is inside the LN itself, the fact that they seem to have spent a substantial amount relaying the foundation of Fuuma and Kazuki’s relationship and re-exploring it (at least in Kazuki’s perspective) at all on top of how much content there is covering their relationship prior to the LN ever since Dolce’s origin just feels like that relationship holds more weight. Pretty much Kazufuuma feels more established as a priority in general. The way I personally hope Fuuyui plays out is whether they wind up holding mutual feelings or not or whether Fuuma doesn’t feel that way towards Yui is they get a relationship akin to Kotarou and Arisa. Albeit, Kotarou and Arisa never viewed each other in a romantic light, but they had mutual respect and solidarity. That’s the type of friendship I hope comes out of Fuyui. And considering there hasn’t been a break-up in any Honeyworks’ canon relationships (nor do I expect there to be… they’re all perfect for each other LMAO) it would actually be interesting if Fuuyui get together but don’t endgame and Kazufuuma is established as the inseparable endgame after some realization or another, though I don’t expect them to go that route nor do I know if that’d be the best way to go about it anyway. Also final point, Honeyworks seems to have a thing for childhood friends trope anyway soooooo owo All in all, don’t know where they’re taking it, just excited to see where it goes.
TL;DR of this *counts* 7 page essay, stan Kazufuuma. Not gonna proof this. Maybe I’ll edit and repost but yall are getting a confusing clusterfuck of ramblings over 2-3 hr periods of me writing across 3 different days at around 5am each day. Uh. If you got this far like and subscribe and-- jk plz reply to this mammoth anywhere you see fit or tell me if you have stuffs to add or counter or whatnot I like hearing people talk about Kazufuuma ;w; I am Kazuki and Kazufuuma brainrot can you tell after reading this? So for about ten days now I've been playing around with the budgeting app Mint (along with a Google Sheets yearly budget template and a lot of manual work with a calculator, a calendar, and a succession of blank Google Docs because that's just the kind of person I am), and so obviously I have some Thoughts.
* I picked Mint because it's the budgeting app all the financial reviewers talk about, because it's run by Intuit who also own TurboTax so I knew their security and interface would be good, and because it does not come with built-in shaming over any of your ~unnecessary~ purchases.
* Mint is a free app which makes its money by offering you sponsored ads for financial products it thinks you might like, and getting paid by the advertisers when you accept one of the ads. The most intrusive location for these ads is on your dashboard, feed, whatever you want to call it, where the ad tile is required to be the third tile down and cannot be shuffled to the bottom or turned off.
* (There is also a desktop browser version, Mint.com. I have poked it very slightly but couldn't get it to do anything useful. More on that later. I don't remember noticing how the ads are arranged there.)
* The app's general design is very sleek and intuitive, what I'd expect from the parent company of QuickBooks and TurboTax. Other than the intrusive ad tile, it lets you rearrange everything however you want.
* Mint is designed around importing transactions from your bank account for you to do budgetary stuff at, so obviously security is really important, which gives Intuit an edge up on the competition because I'm already used to trusting them with my tax returns. It only seems to sync new transactions during banking hours, which for someone like me who does most of their shopping on Sunday is kind of frustrating. It also won't let you edit or recategorize a transaction till it's finished "processing" a day or two down the line. I don't know if these pitfalls are common to all budget apps but it would probably make sense if they are.
* One thing Mint does that's incredibly handy for me is it lets you put all your recurring bills in one place and even sync them with your phone calendar. I actually had to turn off the phone calendar sync because it was alerting me constantly on the day before payday when I couldn't do anything about the bill that was due on payday, but if you can find the setting to change the alert frequency it might be useful. And having a nice chronological list of what the fuck is due when, is extremely helpful to my brain, because previously I was trying to remember everything in my head and I kept losing bills.
* Going down my tiles as I have them sorted in the app, I don't have much to say about that list of transactions itself, except that you can recategorize them and split them into different categories -- which is handy if the rent included $105 late fees which you don't want befuckening your future averages, or if you bought groceries and also a barbecue lighter at Walmart, to take two recent examples.
* You cannot, unfortunately, rename or edit categories. On desktop only, you can supposedly add categories, but you cannot then use those categories in any of Mint's other functions, which really defeats the purpose. And their ideas of what categories you might need are pretty... idiosyncratic, not to say WASPy, so e.g. I'm currently categorizing Patreon income under "Reimbursement" because the other options were things like "Investment Income" and "Returned Purchase". And transfers to my savings account can either be "Credit Card Payment" or "Transfer for Cash Spending".
* (I suppose I could put my savings under "Investment: Deposit" or something similarly grandiose, but that seems like... a lot for the 31 cents rounded up from getting a pizza at Little Caesars.)
* Anyways. So then, after the obligatory ad tile, comes a nice colorful pie chart of my spending for the month, which I can open up and tab through to look at all the categories. I saw one finance blogger saying you should use the Miscellaneous category for some things rather than getting too granular, but I like seeing the little individual entries for my haircut and my cloth mask and my pharmacy copay. (That last one's going to be a more substantial pie slice now that I can actually afford to start taking most of my meds again. Turns out my prescription for diabetic test strips expired, though, so I have to get ahold of my doctor and get a new one sent over, and I'm looking skeptically at the copays. :P I've been ignoring my diabetes since January, it can wait a little longer till I'm financially caught up from COVID.)
* I can see list-style breakdowns by category and merchant, too. This is one of the few places in the mobile app that my income shows up, other than the actual paycheck transactions. The desktop version has some more places to budget projected income, but the handling is clunky as hell.
* Next up is the tile where I've been spending a lot of my time, Budgets. This is your basic "envelope method" where you create, say, a budget for haircuts and another one for groceries. Each budget has to be for one of Mint's pre-created categories, and when you have a spending transaction in that category, it puts the expense against that Budget. The desktop version has you also creating a line item for expected income in Budgets, and then becoming stroppy when you attempt to adjust parts in the wrong order, so I prefer the app which simply tells you e.g. that you have spent $900 of an allocated $1000 with an airy unconcern for whether the $1000 has arrived in your bank account yet.
* My single biggest frustration with Mint is that you cannot create Budgets based on user-created categories, nor can you delete, rename, or even collapse categories in the list. So if I go to create a new Budget for, say, "Housewares" to account for the $1 barbecue lighter I finally bought (I have large hands and a tall jar candle that has burned down farther than I can reach, okay, it was a necessity), then I'm stuck scrolling all the way up and down past "Investment: Capital Gains" and "Kids: Child Support" before finally settling on "Home Supplies" because it doesn't really seem like a "Home Furnishings".
* After Budgets comes Accounts, which just shows me my current net worth across all my accounts. I actually unlinked my savings account because it was confusing the hell out of me to see a 31-cent transfer out of checking paired with the same 31-cent transfer into savings, so this doesn't show me anything I can't get through my bank app, but if I had current credit card debt or non-retirement investment accounts it might be more useful.
* (I have not linked my 401(k) to Mint. I haven't even figured out how to get into my 401(k), either before or after it transferred to a different handler a couple months back. I feel like those are problems for a later time than "okay how much groceries can I buy and still pay the rent".)
* On the desktop version of Mint, you can also put things like your car in under your net worth as Property. I tried that, found that I both did not believe their Kelly Blue Book valuation at all (it didn't have any option to take into account "was totaled two years ago and looks it but still mostly runs") and that I find it extremely stressful to have non-liquid property listed as part of my net worth. Interesting to know. You learn all sorts of shit about yourself when you try to manage money.
* Next there's a tile that attempts to break down my "cash flow" by month. It doesn't seem to have noticed the Paypal transfers on which I was largely subsisting for the three months it was able to pull from my bank account, even though they show up fine in Transactions, so it's deeply confused about whether my cash flow is Healthy or Unhealthy. For now, with my acquisition of a second paycheck for August, it seems to have settled on Healthy. I might turn that tile off though. It doesn't really... offer much, I guess?
* I have turned off the tile that shows me my free credit score. That's a problem for a much later me. Right now I have more urgent problems, like catching up on my deferred car insurance and my deferred cell phone bill and my deferred healthcare deductions.
* You also can't turn off the tile for the Mint "Life Blog" or the one asking you to rate the app, but at least they sit at the bottom of the app as you scroll down.
* The desktop version also has an entire segment not found in the app, for "Goals", where you can supposedly put in your outstanding debts and figure out payment schedules for them. It sounds really good in principle, but I found that section of the site unworkably glitchy, on both laptop and iPad; I couldn't even get past the screen where you try to first enter one of your debts, as it required me to choose answers from two dropdowns neither of which would actually do anything. I was able to get an estimate from the "saving for a rainy day" goal, anyway, by putting in the amount of a debt and telling it I'd like to save up that much money in a year, but that's nothing I couldn't have done with a calculator and a bit of mental effort.
* Jumping back up to the top of the app, one other thing that does intermittently drive me bananas about the app is, when you put in a bill you get a dropdown where you select how often it should recur, but then it... doesn't recur. You have to manually put in the next occurrence. It's still a handy list of upcoming bills, but I actually had to resort to my phone calendar (which properly handles recurring events) to get a good visual on future months' bills.
* And because there is nowhere to put in your projected income and get a nice projection of "On X date you will have $XX in your bank account", or even better a daily graph of your expected cash flow so that you can see "yeah don't put that $300 in savings you'll need it for rent in two weeks", I've been reduced to, as mentioned above, manual daily projections through the end of the year using my phone calculator, phone calendar, Google Docs, and eventually my damn iPad drawing app (came with a Bluetooth stylus I never got working) because I couldn't find any physical graph paper.
* So. Um. Summary. I guess it's a good app? It's very sleek, it has nice charts and graphs and a good interface. But it thinks you can do a lot more with it than you can actually do. Its main uses for me are probably going to boil down to "stop forgetting bills" (the rolling list format works a lot better for my brain than the phone calendar format, even if I do have to re-enter data every time I mark a bill paid) and "finally figure out how much I spend on food really".

Pro Tips from a NaNo Coach: The Care and Feeding of You and Your Novel
Tumblr media
NaNoWriMo can seem like a daunting task sometimes, for NaNo newbies and veterans alike. Fortunately, our NaNo Coaches are here to help guide you through November! Today, author Alexis Daria is here to share her advice on how to take care of yourself while you’re writing:
Welcome to Week 1 of NaNoWriMo! You’ve done it—you’ve declared your novel, maybe you’ve done some NaNoPrep, or some laundry to help you write by the seat of your pants all month, made some writing buddies, and now you’ve started getting words down.
Congratulations! You are now one step further than most people who say they want to write a novel. The reality is, most people say they want to write but never do. Starting is the hardest part—the activation energy required can be tremendous—so whether this is your first attempt or your 20th (Happy anniversary, NaNoWriMo!), I salute you.
Week 1 is marked by enthusiasm and excitement. Your mind whirls with inspiration. Your outline seems impervious to plot holes. You are on your way!
So let’s talk about how you maintain this momentum throughout the month. Writing advice seems to fall into two main categories: writing craft and writing life. However, I would argue that we can’t approach craft without also looking at how we take care of ourselves as creatives.
Before we discuss maintaining our own momentum, let’s talk about how to keep moving forward with your novel. If you find yourself feeling stuck, here are a few story tips you could try:
1. Raise the stakes.
What happens if your character fails at reaching their goal? If the answer is “nothing,” you want to raise the stakes. Why is success important to them? Not every story needs to be life or death—it could just be the emotional stakes that are high.
2. Increase the sense of urgency.
How? Give your characters a deadline of some sort. It doesn’t even have to be an overall story-level deadline. Whatever their current scene goal is, see if you can add a ticking clock. Maybe they’re going to the bank—but they have to get there before it closes! Will they make it in time? Now we have tension.
3. Ask WHY.
Focus on your character’s why. Why are they doing what they’re doing? Why do they want what they want? Dig into their past, their psyche. They lived a whole life before they showed up on your first page—use their past experiences to drive them through the story you’re telling now.
However, when we hit snags in our own lives, the writing stalls out, too. So let’s take a look at some ways we can maintain our own inner momentum:
1. Don’t ignore the basics.
Eat, sleep, drink water. It can be very tempting to let these fall by the wayside as you try to carve out time for writing, but I promise, if you maintain your basic needs, the writing will come easier.
2. No writer is an island.
Yes, much of the act of writing happens in solitude. But in between those long stretches of isolation, reach out to your writing buddies for motivation, especially if you feel stuck. Ask if you can talk out a story problem with them—and then return the favor. Attend an in-person write-in or join @NaNoWordSprints on Twitter, which runs all month long. The beauty of NaNoWriMo is the community—make the most of it!
3. Keep a writing journal.
Every day, I write a short entry in my Scrivener doc about how the writing went. Some days I whine about the struggle, other days I’m pleasantly surprised by the creative flow. I find it helpful to be able to go back and see not just how many words I wrote per day, but how I was feeling and what else was going on in my life.
4. Keep what works and scrap the rest.
There’s a ton of writing advice out there (like this blog post), but I always recommend you take what works for you and discard the rest. For example, “write every day” is a common adage, but you might have a day job that doesn’t leave much time for creativity during the week. Don’t despair! Many writers are Weekend Warriors. Carve out a block of writing time on the weekends and do what you have to do to keep other obligations from interfering.
Don’t like write-ins? You don’t have to go. Don’t like word sprints? You don’t have to do them. Don’t overwhelm yourself by feeling like you need to do everything this month. Certainly be open to trying new things to see if you do like them, but don’t feel like you have to. There are no “rules,” and you’re not receiving a grade on this. Do what’s best for you. The real goal of NaNoWriMo is to support and foster your creativity and growth. If you spend any time at all exploring your creativity this month, I count that as a win!
One last note: 50,000-words might be the “goal,” but you haven’t “lost” or “failed” if you don’t reach that marker in one month. The number might seem scary or unattainable, but don’t let it stop you from trying to write something. Just write. Use the momentum and structure of NaNo to your benefit. Go easy on yourself and stay flexible in your process. And then see what you end up with on December 1st. I bet you’ll surprise yourself.

Building A Zettelkasten In Typora
Tumblr media
I stumbled across a reference to a note-taking system I had not heard of: zettelkasten.
In Zettelkasten — How One German Scholar Was So Freakishly Productive | David Clear writes about the notes box (zettelkasten) note system of Niklas Luhmann.
The Zettelkasten principles
A Zettelkasten is a phenomenal tool for storing and organizing your knowledge, extending your memory, generating new connections between ideas, and increasing your writing output. However, to make the most of a Zettelkasten, you should follow some key principles.
1 | The principle of atomicity: The term was coined by Christian Tietze. It means that each note should contain one idea and one idea only. This makes it possible to link ideas with a laser focus.
2 | The principle of autonomy: Each note should be autonomous, meaning it should be self-contained and comprehensible on its own. This allows notes to be moved, processed, separated, and concatenated independently of its neighbors. It also ensures that notes remain useful even if the original source of information disappears.
3 | Always link your notes: Whenever you add a note, make sure to link it to already existing notes. Avoid notes that are disconnected from other notes. As Luhmann himself put it, “each note is just an element that derives its quality from the network of links in the system. A note that is not connected to the network will be lost, will be forgotten by the Zettelkasten” (original in German).
4 | Explain why you’re linking notes: Whenever you are connecting two notes by a link, make sure to briefly explain why you are linking them. Otherwise, years down the road when you revisit your notes, you may have no idea why you connected them.
5 | Use your own words: Don’t copy and paste. If you come across an interesting idea and want to add it to your Zettelkasten, you must express that idea with your own words, in a way that you’ll be sure to understand years later. Don’t turn your Zettelkasten into a dump of copy-and-pasted information.
5 | Keep references: Always add references to your notes so that you know where you got an idea from. This prevents plagiarism and makes it easy for you to revisit the original source later on.
6 | Add your own thoughts to the Zettelkasten: If you have thoughts of your own, add them to the Zettelkasten as notes while keeping in mind the principle of atomicity, autonomy, and the need for linking.
7 | Don’t worry about structure: Don’t worry about putting notes in neat folders or into unique preconceived categories. As Schmidt put it, in a Zettelkasten “there are no privileged positions” and “there is no top and no bottom.” The organization develops organically.
8 | Add connection notes: As you begin to see connections among seemingly random notes, create connection notes, that is, specific notes whose purpose is to link together other notes and explain their relationship.
9 | Add outline notes: As ideas begin to coalesce into themes, create outline notes. An outline note is a note that simply contains a sequence of links to other notes, putting those other notes into a particular order to create a story, narrative, or argument.
10 | Never delete: Don’t delete old notes. Instead, link to new notes that explain what’s wrong with the old ones. In that way, your Zettelkasten will reflect how your thinking has evolved over time, which will prevent hindsight bias. Moreover, if you don’t delete, you might revisit old ideas that may turn out to be correct after all.
11 | Add notes without fear: You can never have too much information in your Zettelkasten. At worst, you’ll add notes that won’t be of immediate use. But adding more notes will never break your Zettelkasten or interfere with its proper operation. Remember, Luhmann had 90,000 notes in his Zettelkasten!
Clear goes on to show how he has implemented a digital note box (that what zettelcasten means in German) in markdown-formatted text files, like this:
# 201912161352 Zettelkasten is amazing
#notetaking #writing #productivity
The Zettelkasten notetaking system is the best notetaking system ever.
## Links
- [[201912070830-Zettelkasten-principles]] - [[201912080935-Niklas-Luhmann-short-biography]]
From the top: a title, a series of tags, the actual content which is a single sentence in this example, and a list of links to related notes.
The double-bracket notation is a feature for cross-file linking supported by 1Writer for iPad. The rest is plain vanilla markdown.
Dropbox Paper Fail
I tried to build a note box in Dropbox Paper, but tags don’t work as they should. Dropbox Paper supposedly supports tags, but the search functionality simply ignores the special characters. So a search on ‘#platform-capitalism’ finds all files that have either ‘platform’ or ‘capitalism’ in the contents. Not good.
I haven’t been using tags in Paper, and now I know why. They don’t work as they should.
Typora to the Rescue
But my favorite markdown tool — Typora — works pretty well for zettelkasten. Typora starts as a great markdown editor so that covers the note side of things.
Tags are not a core aspect of markdown, and not an extension built into Typora. However, the two sides of tags – marking and finding – can be pulled off.
I use markdown footnote, supported by Typora, to represent tags. For example, see this:
Tumblr media
Each tag is formatted like this
[^#tag]: [optional text description]
Here’s the text of the file:
Tumblr media
I opted to use footnote formatting in order to avoid Typora treating the ‘#’ as an indicator of a heading, at first. But it also means I can tag sentences in the contents with the tags, as in this example with ‘#auction’ in the second paragraph.
Typora’s search for ‘#auction’ leads to this:
Tumblr media
Both the footnote indicator in the text and the footnote definition in the document footer are found and highlighted. Clicking on each opens the document and centers on the location where the tag is located. This works really well.
Creating links to other documents should build on search, but there’s a little snag. Searching for ‘platform-capitalism’ brings up the two docs that have that in their contents. With Typora I can simply drag a file reference from the file list into the Links section of a document, and it creates a link to that document. However, this can’t be done with files in the search results! So I have to search, then remember the files, and pull them from the file list in the folder view.  [It would be helpful if I could drag a file reference from the search results: I have suggested that to the Typora folks, and we’ll see.]
The Bottom Line
Typora can support creating a zettelcasten in markdown, clearly.
But this presents me with a larger question. I have been managing my daybook journal as a chronological series of files, one for each day, in which I paste all sorts of information related to each day: things I’ve read, things to do, things I’ve done. Perhaps I can continue with both techniques? A journal for one and a notes box for the other?
I’ve already learned that I can’t effectively search through my Dropbox Paper journal – at least until they fix the search functionality – so I will revert to journaling in Typora, since I need to remember things, not just capture them. I guess my zettelcasten and my journal coalesce into one giant folder, neatly time-stamped.

On-line OGG Converter
FLAC is the acronym for Free Lossless Audio Codec. When distributing a podcast or other audio over the internet, you want to have the smallest potential filesize, the very best high quality and everyone ought to be able to play it (on all operating systems, on cell phones, moveable audio gamers, car audio players and many others.). choose a folder of FLAC music recordsdata, and drag them into the File Conversion window in Max. Supported Audio File Formats: WMA, FLAC, AAC, WMV, MP3, OGG and and so on. There are many packages and gadgets that help FLAC , however the core FLAC mission here maintains the format and provides packages and libraries for working with FLAC recordsdata. See Getting FLAC for instructions on downloading and installing the official FLAC instruments, or Utilizing FLAC for instructions and guides on enjoying FLAC recordsdata, ripping CDs to FLAC, etc. Click Convert to convert your flac to mp3 converter free online file(s). For this function, Convertio is a great tool with a simple interface. It can let you add and download audio files to and out of your Google Drive and Dropbox accounts. When you do not like these options, you may also upload immediately from your PC and obtain the converted file via email, or just download from the conversion page. There are only a few choices beyond that aside from you possibly can select whether or not you want the application to delete the original information robotically or maintain them. It does not acknowledge all codecs though it does help the major ones listed above. Audio high quality is superb and the conversion course of is quick but it would have been nice in case you might choose precisely what bitrate you need to convert to. As it is, the default is 128Kbs although Tremendous apparently refers to 320kbps.
You might drag information onto the FlicFlac interface, or convert files immediately from the suitable click menu in Home windows Explorer. Use this instrument to vary the pitch (audio key) and speed (tempo) of music independently. This tool is helpful for music training, transcription, instrument learning (piano, guitar, flute, and so on.), or just for music decelerate or velocity up. If you're logged in you can choose-in to get notified by e mail as soon as the conversion is finished. Dither can optionally be utilized when changing high decision audio to 24-bit, sixteen-bit, or 8-bit. FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec , an audio format just like MP3, but lossless, which means that audio is compressed in FLAC with none loss in quality. This is similar to how Zip works, besides with FLAC you'll get much better compression as a result of it is designed specifically for HD audio. CUERipper is an utility for extracting digital audio from CDs, an open source alternative to EAC. It has loads fewer configuration options, so is somewhat easier to make use of, and is included in CUETools package. It supports MusicBrainz and freeDB metadata databases, AccurateRip and CTDB. Note that Complete Audio Converter shouldn't be solely an ideal flac mp3 converter. It's all-in-one resolution to transform any audio recordsdata - WAV, WMA, OGG, MOD, MP4, AAC and lots of others. I've only simply begun to research these formats, but is is my understanding that WAV (actual copy) and FLAC (lossless compression) are interchangeable with no lack of knowledge. Assuming that is right, is there one thing about VideoGo software that, in your expertise, creates some loss of audio high quality? Since I used to be considering of attempting it, I might be interested to understand how that loss was noticed. Thanks.
Tumblr media
Begin AudioConverter Studio. Wizard exhibits up, suggesting us to choose what we have to do. Let's choose "Convert single file or group of files from one format into different" (if not already selected) and click "Subsequent". Merge MP3 is an efficient software for flac to mp3 converter free online joining files. It is unable to unpack joined files like MakeItOne, however this is needed infrequently, and it's still a really good device that works beneath its ninety six kbps lower limit. Output folder: You possibly can put the transformed mp3 files in the enter folder, or put them to a separate folder. Changing to MP3 might help you retailer more music on a device. Indeed, this utility offers a wealth of pre-configured gadget profiles to your comfort. As soon as you select one in every of them, all relative settings concerning the gadget will probably be optimized mechanically. If you wish to play a WMV movie on Apple TELEVISION , for example, you simply need to select your Apple TV mode from "Apple TV" category and proceed to the subsequent step. Added help to vary sample price and bit depth for output audio information.
Tumblr media
If you want to convert a batch of DVD recordsdata, simply click on the ±" button to load more of them in the same method. Up to date November 1, 2009 to compensate for the disappearance of AtomicLemur's converter iLAS; on June 27, 2011, to take away a step indicating a have to manually edit metadata (Thanks, Ben!); and on July 27, 2011, to make observe of All2MP3 (thanks, Lionel!). Raucous music or music with many complicated sounds and frequencies being performed directly might be very unforgiving in terms of lossy compression, even at high bitrates. This is after all, partially dependent on what you are taking part in it on, as is the case with other varieties of music as properly. On the best hand facet, you may see there may be an choice that lets you set the output path. It has been set to save the transformed information to "Original Folder", which implies the transformed MP3 information will be in the same folder because the FLAC information are in. You can change the setting to "Customise the Output Path" and then you can select one other folder path, for example Desktop or Doc folder, to save the transformed files.Seek for a video you wish to download on YouTube , Dailymotion or Clipfish and duplicate & paste the hyperlink (URL) of the video within the first box, select the file sort and press "convert". Alternatively you may seek for a Youtube video straight on this page. In the settings of the convert dialog box, only change the Profile half. Select the audio format that you'd wish to convert to. By default, the codecs present in the drop down are Audio - MP3, Vorbig (OGG), MP3 (MP4), FLAC, CD. Choose the format you're converting to.

25 Best Productivity Apps for Busy Professionals in 2019
As a smart and busy business or site owner, you’re likely always looking to improve your efficiency to get more done. This way, you’ll have more time to focus on other things you care about besides work. This is where productivity apps come to the rescue.
The term “productivity app” is pretty broad. It can be defined as any software you use to improve your workflow and collaborate with others more effectively. In this article, we’re going to take a close look at 25 of the best productivity apps available, and help you figure out which ones are a good fit.
Let’s get to work!
25 Best Apps to Increase Your Productivity in 2019
Every app in this section can help you increase your productivity, although most of them focus on a different approach. With this in mind, we’re going to break them down into different categories. Let’s begin!
Productivity Apps to Collaborate With a Team
For this section, we’ll focus on apps built around teamwork and communication, starting with the most popular ‘office chat’ service around.
1. Slack
At first glance, Slack looks like a simple chatroom. It enables you to set up ‘channels’ for your team, specific projects, and any topic you want (including design), among others. However, you can jump from one channel to another, share files, send private messages, and more. It’s also worth noting that Slack can integrate a plethora of other online services, which makes it a productivity powerhouse.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
2. Trello
With the popular Trello, you can set up boards for your projects, add tasks to each one, and assign people to them. When something is complete, you can mark it so, which lets people know how you’re progressing. In addition, Trello can connect with lots of other apps, including Slack, Dropbox, Evernote, and more.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
3. Asana
On the surface, Asana is similar to Trello. Both productivity apps use a board-based approach to helping you get work done. However, Asana also enables you to design visual project plans, which play out like ‘mind maps’. These enable you to see who’s working on what at a glance, and check the status of each project.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
4. Teleport Sundial
You may know Teleport as a suite of apps geared towards help you find the best places to work around the globe. It does this by letting you compare quality of life indicators, salaries, and much more besides.
Sundial is just one app within this suite, and it enables you to check up on all your team’s working hours and timezones, so you know when everyone’s available. This way, you won’t panic if Jane from marketing doesn’t answer your latest email in five minutes, because you’ll know she’s probably still asleep.
Price: Free | More Information
5. Skype
If you and the rest of your team don’t work in the same building, you’ll need to use a tool that enables you to stay in touch with each other, be it via voice or video calls. Sure, Skype also includes group chat options, but this is not its primary selling point. In any case, it’s still the king when it comes to online conferencing.
Price: Free video conferencing but charges for phone calls | More Information
6. Google Docs
A lot of the work that goes on in most offices relies on simple apps, such as text editors and spreadsheet managers. Google Docs provides you with both of those classics, as well as form, slide, and site-building tools. Plus, it makes collaboration easy by enabling you to share documents and choose who can edit or comment on them. If you want even more functionality, you can also check out the entire G Suite, of which Google Docs is just a part.
Price: Free, but G Suite is a premium service | More Information
7. Basecamp
At its core, Basecamp is relatively similar to Trello and Asana. With this app, you can set up manage multiple projects, each including to-do lists, message boards, schedules, and shared files. However, Basecamp shines due to how simple it is to pick up and use. Plus, it offers excellent support, so we can recommend it if you want to keep the project management side of things simple.

Productivity Apps to Help You Automate Key Processes
In many cases, the best way to increase your productivity is to automate tasks that don’t necessarily require your input. This is exactly where these apps can come in to the rescue!
8. Zapier
Zapier is a service that takes almost every popular productivity app you can imagine and enables you to connect them in creative ways. With Zapier, you can set up ‘triggers’, which are specific actions within any app you choose. Then, you can configure what happens when a trigger is hit, which is usually an action on a different service.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
9. IFTTT
Using If This Then That (IFTTT), you can connect applications and services and create ‘applets’. Recipes work much like triggers in Zapier – when something happens on app A, it triggers a reaction on service B.
Overall, IFTTT offers fewer applet options than Zapier. However, it shines in an entirely different area – helping you automate aspects of your home life. Just to give you an idea., you can connect IFTTT to an ecosystem such as Amazon Echo, and set instructions to control elements such as your lightbulbs, or applicances.

Productivity Apps to Help Organize Your Life
Life isn’t all about work and even outside the office, you might need some help to keep track of everything you have to do. After all, if your personal life is in order, chances are you’ll be more efficient all around.
10. Todoist
As the name gives away, Todoist is a ‘to-do’ list app. With it, you can set up as many lists as you like, be reminded of specific tasks, help you build habits through reinforcement, and prioritize goals. However, our favorite feature provides you with handy little charts and graphs to check on your progress at any time.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
11. Pocket
The coolest thing about the internet (in our opinion) is the unrestricted access as much information than you could ever digest – and it’s all there for the taking.
Pocket enables you to save those interesting pieces of content so you can read it later, which lets you stay focused during the day. Think of it as a bookmark, only Pocket downloads the whole article for your later convenience.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
12. LastPass
We’re big fans of apps and online services of all kinds, as you might have guessed. However, every time we want to try a new app, we need to come up with a unique password and username, then try to remember both.
The solution to this problem lies with password managers. This type of tool enables you to generate secure and unique passwords, store them safely, and autofill forms when needed to save you time. There are plenty of password managers you can try out, but LastPass is one of our top picks.

Productivity Apps to Help You Keep Track of How You Spend Your Time
Most of us like to imagine we’re productivity juggernauts. However, chances are when you take a look at how much time you actually spend working versus browsing around the web, you’d be surprised. With these apps, you’ll be able to improve how you manage your time!
13. Toggl
Toggl is all about helping you track the time you actually spend working. With this productivity app, you can track how much time you’re spending on each project, as well as your idle minutes (or hours). You can then look back at the end of each day and see if you’re making good use of your time.

14. RescueTime
As far as functionality goes, RescueTime is pretty similar to Toggl as it enables you to track how you’re spending your time on a per app basis. However, this particular app includes a couple of standout features of its own, such as enabling you to block specific websites, so you don’t get distracted. You can also use it to configure notifications to let you know once you hit a milestone on any activity you want.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
15. FocusBooster
We’ve talked about the Pomodoro Technique previously, and it’s a great method for increasing your productivity. In a nutshell, it’s all about focusing on work for a specific stretch of time – usually 25 minutes – then taking a short break before repeating the process. FocusBooster is built around this technique, and it enables you to keep track of your ‘Pomodoros’, and exactly how much work you’re getting done.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
16. Freedom
Not only does it have a catchy name, but the Freedom app also enables you to stay productive by blocking all the websites and apps that conspire to distract you. It works across all major platforms, and you can configure it to either block anything you want during specific periods of time, or alternatively every time you start a work ‘session’.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
Productivity Apps for Storing and Accessing Important Information
You likely have to juggle a lot of information at work. For example, you need to remember who’s assigned specific tasks, how to get in touch with certain people, when your next meeting is, and more. The following apps help you store and access all of those tidbits of information more efficiently, so you can focus on more important things.
17. Cloze
Cloze simply provide you with one central hub where you can store information about your contacts. Sometimes, low-tech solutions are the best answer to a problem. However, if you’re not a low-tech person, and you like taking notes, Evernote could be an ideal solution.
This platform’s goal is simple – to help you create quick notes of any kind, such as jotting down ideas, creating to-do lists, and more. Plus, it enables you to accompany your notes with media files. What’s more, you can check them out from practically any device.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
19. Google Keep
Here’s another recommendation for a top-notch note-taking app. The difference is, Google Keep is perfect if you’re knee-deep into the search giant’s ecosystem.
For example, you can use and sync Google Keep across your mobile devices, but there’s also a Chrome extension available – and you can access your notes from Google Docs. If you want to keep things inside the Google family, it can be a great alternative to Evernote.
Price: Free | More Information
20. HelloSign
Getting documents signed is part of almost any modern workplace. Maybe you or a member of your team needs to sign something, or you have to send a contract to a new client. In any case, dealing with a physical trail of paper can be a huge time sink.
With HelloSign, you can create or digitize documents, submit them, and have the recipient sign online in a legally binding manner. Better yet, the app enables you to store all your contracts in one place, or alternatively download them.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information

Dropbox hardly needs an introduction – the service enables you to store files in the cloud, which makes it a great option for backing up important data. You can also use it to share files with other people, making collaboration easier. If you use Dropbox for Business, you also get options to collaborate on files and have better control over who can access them.
Price: Free with premium plans available | More Information
22. Google Drive
Admittedly, Google Drive shares most of Dropbox’s key features. However, it’s a no-brainer if you rely on other apps from the G Suite for work, since they’re all part of the same family.
Price: Free with additional storage space available for purchase | More Information
