i saw a surge of mal submissions, so i want to share my favorite rewrite of the character. he gets frontstuck in all-stars, like canon, but instead of faking he's mike to manipulate people, he pretends to be mike because he has no idea where he is. clearly people know mike, but do they know he's a system? mal doesn't know!
so the season is full of 'mike' just being abnormally weird instead of mean. the subplot is the other alters trying to get mal un-frontstuck. there's no reset button, just a lot of, "oohhh we never got the chance to tell him we're on tv.."
of course, when he finds out they're on a reality show for the second time, mal's understandably like "why are we on television?! who's idea was this?!"

Reminder: Will Byers, Lucas Sinclair, and Dustin Henderson are all visibly different. They're bullied because their respective sexuality, race, and physical condition make them outsiders. They're not bullied because of Mike.
Mike is someone who's different because of his interests. These interests allow him to associate with other "nerds and freaks". Unlike his peers, Mike has the luxury to hide what makes him different, granting him the opportunity to "enjoy" the prototypical, white middle class, suburban lifestyle laid out for him. Whether that path will lead to his happiness is another thing (that the writers will answer in S5).
Mike struggles to live his life truthfully, in spite of and because of his visibly different friends. While he values their differences and sees them as strengths, he's also keenly aware of how it makes them a target.
He saw bullies mock Will for being "a fairy" when Will's death was announced. He heard Will being called "Zombie Boy" which is an epithet referring to AIDS as much as Will's undead escapades. He saw Max's step-brother assault Lucas for being Black. He heard bullies call Lucas "Midnight". He heard bullies call Dustin "Toothless," and he'll soon witness the aftermath of Dustin being beaten for not forsaking the Hellfire Club.
Like Mike said in S3, "We're not kids anymore". He's grown to understand that being different is dangerous. These differences come with real threats that are just as scary, if not scarier, than the supernatural ones the party fights.
Please don't trivialize the struggles of the other party members. Their struggles are significant to the essence of the show, as well as more visible than Mike's, which makes overlooking them deeply ironic.

By  COLLEEN SLEVIN Updated 4:07 PM MST, June 16, 2025
DENVER (AP) — A federal jury in Colorado on Monday found that one of the nation’s most prominent election conspiracy theorists, MyPillow founder Mike Lindell, defamed a former employee for a leading voting equipment company after the 2020 presidential election.
The employee, Eric Coomer, was awarded $2.3 million in damages. He had sued after Lindell called him a traitor and accusations about him stealing the election were streamed on Lindell’s online media platform.
Coomer was the security and product strategy director at Denver-based Dominion Voting Systems, whose voting machines became the target of elaborate conspiracy theories among allies of President Donald Trump, who continues to falsely claim that his loss to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020 was due to widespread fraud.
Dominion won a $787 million settlement in a defamation lawsuit it filed against Fox News over its airing of false claims against the company and has another lawsuit against the conservative network Newsmax.

Note: They're saying "alleged" because that's what journalists are supposed to do until there's a conviction. ABC isn't trying to cast doubt, they're trying to follow professional standards and also not get sued for libel.
"Former President Donald Trump, bent on staying in power, undertook a sweeping "criminal scheme" to overturn the results of the 2020 election, including repeatedly pushing lies about the results despite knowing that they were correct, and doubling down on those falsehoods as the Jan. 6 riot raged, a sweeping federal indictment alleges.
This is the third indictment faced by the former president, who -- as the Republican frontrunner in the 2024 presidential race -- continues to insist that the vote was rigged.
Prosecutors say the alleged scheme, which they say involved six unnamed co-conspirators, included enlisting a slate of so-called "fake electors" targeting several states; using the Justice Department to conduct "sham election crime investigations"; enlisting the vice president to "alter the election results"; and doubling down on false claims as the Jan. 6 riot ensued -- all in an effort to subvert democracy and stay in power.
The six alleged co-conspirators include several attorneys and a Justice Department official.
The sweeping indictment, based on the investigation by special counsel Jack Smith, charges Trump with four felony counts: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights...
In the history of the country, no president or former president had ever been indicted prior to Trump's first indictment in April."

Music as a Switching Method
We have mostly voluntary switches, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Sometimes it's hard to stay in the front when the body really wants One Particular Guy to front for the next week straight. It has a habit of latching onto one person until they get worn out, then shoving another guy into front--rinse and repeat. No one likes it. It's not productive. Sure, we can switch, but we feel absolutely horrible and blurry if we do, if the brain decides it doesn't want whoever switched in.
But we've learned ways to make it easier for other people to hold onto the front using certain methods. One of the most effective ways to do it? Music. A lot of us have our own playlists, favourite songs and music tastes, and those get so associated with us that they're almost inseparable from us. Like our own list of theme songs that we have playing in the background when we're around. And what do you know, it grounds us and keeps us from blurring too hard.
Your identity gets so merged with your playlist that years after your last front, you can hear a song from it and be rocketed straight into the fronting area from wherever you were inside. Some people share songs across playlists and those don't tend to be as strong of a front trigger, but sometimes they lean more toward being a switch-in trigger for one person than anyone else. Sometimes it depends on the overall playlist vibe and takes a few songs in a row to summon someone from the headspace. Sometimes it's as simple as the first few notes of a favourite song.
It's almost literally like we have our own theme songs that follow us around like videogame characters. If the song plays, you know we're there or we'll be there soon. It definitely helps with times where our brain is being difficult. It means that sometimes switches happen out in public if we hear a certain song playing on some speaker somewhere, but that's better for us than not having any way to combat identity-blurring.

New Cassian headcanon
(Don't know if I'll ever write this fic as I've got a Marvel series that has consumed me, but this came to me in the shower, and I think it's interesting. Here's a free starting point, if anyone wants)
I half-jokingly made a hc about Andor being a New Republican era show that got Cassian's backstory mixed up with someone else. Then I realized I was pulling from something that happened to a character on an actual show. My Band of Brothers girlies know who I'm talking about.
Anyway, I'm going to flip Gilroy's canon. Ferrix is the cover story, and Fest is the real story. For many in the Rebel Alliance, "Seperatist" is a dirty word. For many, all they would see is Count Dooku, the Trade Federation, the Banking Clan, and the Corpos. There were probably Seperatists who went over the Empire. Even though Fest had fought against the Empire, like how they fought against the late Old Republic, and would become a Rebel operations HQ, all some Rebels would hear is "Seperatist." And it's got to be on site for some.
Perhaps Cassian stayed on Ferrix for a time. But for this headcanon, saying that he was from Ferrix was a safe option. Wasn't going to cut him any slack with the Imps, but it didn't get him heat from some of the Rebels. Only a handful of people know the truth and Cassian's personnel file is mostly redacted. It's useless for a scriptwriter in the New Republic era. And there's probably a lot of people who are tight lipped about what the intelligence arm of the Rebel Alliance did. There's reprisals to think about, after all from lingering Imperials and the people used and betrayed by the Rebels. So he gets combined or mixed up with someone else. But for security reasons, no one is going to correct the narrative for years. Personnel files aren't declassified until 100 years have passed. But in the meantime, however Cassian squares his origins with his current loyalties is a gold mine to explore.
