I’ve been thinking a lot about Michika and my “A New Slice of Life” fic (and it’s sorta sequel-oneshot) lately, so screw it. Headcanon time

Warning: this got SUUUUUPER long

Michika:

Despite being semi-aquatic, Michi doesn’t really care for seafood. She’d rather have cucumbers/other veggies or noodles. She also just LOVES fruit and baked goods, but strangely enough also enjoys black licorice

Along with being friends with Mikey, she runs into Piebald during one of her swims on the surface, and the two become fast friends. While she’s not super into horror movies, they definitely bond over their love of pranks

One day when they were bored, Mikey taught Michi about splatter paint art, and now it’s one of her fave things to do

Prefers lakes over oceans, and will hang out in parks on the Surface because of this

Has excellent aim and is great at long range attacks, thanks to her water gun and a decent throwing arm, but is below-average when it comes to close combat, and will resort to scratching/biting if she can’t get away

Despite her trickster personality, she’s loyal enough to keep a promise (sort of a Kappa’s thing) though only for friends. For anyone else, they have to get her to somehow spill her bowl water in order to ‘earn’ a promise from her

First few times she slept over at the Lair, she just slept in that moat they have in the atrium. Though, as she and Mikey got closer and she was more okay with sleepover cuddle piles with the others in the tv room, she was willing to pour her head water into another bowl and sleep somewhere dry

If she comes over when Mikey’s in the middle of doing art, she’ll just grab a bowl of chips or salad and sit on his hammock, munching away and watching, occasionally giving a comment. Mikey likes having the company and the extra perspective

She only steals food. Everything else she has, from her clothes to her water gun, she found abandoned or in the trash. She doesn’t have any morals about stealing non-food items, it’s just that she doesn’t feel like she needs to. She needs to eat, not wear fancy clothes or glittery jewelry

TV is kind of a novelty for her, since I don’t think there’s a ton of it in the Hidden City. She enjoys watching Cutthroat Kitchen with Mikey and gets a mild kick out of Lou Jitsu movies. She’s also a huge fan of comedies

Speaking of Cutthroat Kitchen, she and Mikey love to egg each other on into doing these sorts of challenges when they feel like cooking together

*Raph, walking into the kitchen to see Mikey and Michi doing a sort of three-legged thing, half-laughing and half-yelling at each other* “Uhh, are you two angry or havin’ fun?” “YES!”

After hearing enough of it from Mikey and Hueso Jr., she develops a mild love of rap/hip hop and Spanish music

She and Junior take a while to find common ground, but they do get along pretty well. They like to sass each other at times, and while Michi likes to make herself laugh, she appreciates that Junior can make her laugh with his jokes and comebacks

Hueso Jr.:

He’s autistic and finds it really hard to be social at times, but can be very talkative and expressive around his father and his friends, and when comfortable, he can be a bit mischievous and silly/loud. He also has anxiety, though is able to work through it for the most part

Has a dry sense of wit, just like his dad

Is actually quite skilled at cooking technically, he just doesn’t have any passion or drive for it

Likes playing sports ball/soccer/baseball with Mikey and the Turtles when he’s in the mood. Is also good at fencing, thanks to lessons from his dad

Through the events of ‘A New Slice of Pizza’, he ends up discovering a love of flower arrangement and table setting/making centerpieces, and while it starts out as just a hobby, he can’t deny it’s his love and makes a decent career out of it

That being said, he sometimes helps with the management stuff at Run of the Mill when Senor Hueso needs him to

Given that the Turtles have already paid his way for it (lol, love that line in ‘Portal Jacked!’), Junior does go to college for two years. He gets an associate’s degree in Literature

Through his love of wordplay and skeleton puns, he also ends up sort of getting into poetry. It’s more comedic and clever, though it’s still embarrassing for him to share. He sometimes help Mikey with rap lyrics as well

Likes music (classical, easy listening, alt. rock) and usually listens to Spanish artists

While being the same age as Mikey - 13 years old - he’s a few months younger (the opposite of Michi, who proudly reminds others that she’s 13 and a half, thank you very much)

While he may literally be all bones, he still enjoys hardy and filling foods. Lots of meat, lots of spices and heat, and (naturally) enjoys Italian and Mexican cuisine

He’s good at avoiding Michi’s pranks, which both impresses and annoys her

He’s not very good at art in terms of drawing or painting, but will still sometimes doodle and color with Mikey when Mikey’s in the mood for it and will still enjoy himself

Will watch anything and be okay/mildly entertained, but specifically likes watching sports

Mikey:

Works at Run of the Mill from age 13 to age 18, coming up with no less than a dozen one-of-a-kind dishes while there, becoming friends with all of his co-workers and earning plenty of fans through his awesome cooking skills and table service

When he starts traveling the world for a few years, both above and below the surface, to learn even more about food and cooking techniques, Michi comes along for the heck of it, and they both make sure to keep in contact with Junior as well as the Turtles/April/Splinter

When he does eventually open up his own restaurant in his late 20s/early 30s, he only had one name in mind for it: “Razz-ma-Tazz” A mix of Italian/American/Mexican/Asian cooking. Pretty much any delicious dish any human, mutant or yokai could ask for!

Enjoys cuddle sessions with his friends as much as he enjoys having fun and getting into shenanigans with them

Often sketches out candid moments he remembers (Michi catching a snooze under water, Junior smiling to himself as he’s writing out a poem, stuff like that)

As soon as he’s old enough for them, he switches from covering himself with paint and stickers to covering himself with tattoos, and is VERY proud of them

Takes care of the stray animals that hang out behind his restaurant, feeding them leftovers and giving them names

In his early-20s, after seeing April and his bros get into romantic relationships (April with Sunita, Leo with Usagi, and Raph and Donnie with two of my best friend’s OCs, heh), he starts to realize “Hey, you know what? I think I like Michi and Junior that way too!” He never really thought or cared about his sexuality too much beforehand, so realizing he’s bi and polyamorous isn’t too big of a deal for him

Unlike his brothers, who were absolute DISASTERS when it came to romance, Mikey ironically was the most mature and straight-forward about it despite being the second-youngest in the Jitsu fam. He just sat them both down, told him how he felt about them - BOTH of them - and was honest, along with telling them that he loved them just as much as friends, so if they didn’t feel the same or weren’t comfortable with the poly idea, that was totally cool.

As such, Michi and Junior both took some time - first thinking about it alone, then discussing it with each other. Eventually, they came to the conclusion that they loved Mikey too, and that they were close enough to each other that they didn’t mind being co-partners and having the same boyfriend along with being friends with each other

Everyone but Splinter was surprised with this outcome, but the entire fam (Senor Hueso included) was totally happy and supportive of them ^v^

Isn’t totally sure about being a parent with how busy his restaurant and his art keeps him, but in the meantime he volunteers with programs like Big Brothers/Big Sisters and mentorship programs, and occasionally fosters kids for several weeks

Two decades or so and hundreds of dishes later... and his favorite food is (and always WILL BE) pizza or pizza-esque dishes

Oh hey so I finally started writing another 2012 one-shot for Cold Fire Rising: Mind Games and I actually feel really good in a hopeful way, like it's starting to pull me out of the apparent depression. Good for me!

Also, it's angsty as fuck because it's a SAINW AU but not really because it's a shared nightmare between Mikey and Donnie. Ahh, whump.

It's not the details of the nightmare that hurts Mikey the most, it's the setting. They've done alternate timelines before, but this is different in the way that maybe it's not entirely a dream. 

He sits up in bed for a whole hour, recalling bits and pieces, staring at his left arm as though it could really disappear. And then his bedroom door opens and it startles him because he didn't sense it. And Donnie sits on the bed and frowns at him, and Mikey finally lifts his head, because it feels like something in his own head is actually blocking his ESP senses. 

"Nightmare," Donnie whispers, and it's not a question. 

Mikey lifts his left hand and rubs his forehead. "I can't… my brain can't… I feel blocked."

Donnie inhales sharply. "Didn't we figure out that it happens before a seizure?"

"...did we?" Mikey stares at him, wonders where the cyborg parts went. 

It was a dream, it was just a dream. 

"Mike... " Don says, in that tone he uses when he needs to be really really gentle, when someone (pfff, Mikey) is having sensory processing issues, and Gaia taught him that, Mikey's girlfriend knows a lot about brain stuff - haha, of course, she's not just his girlfriend, she's polyamorous with all of them, but Mikey and Donnie share the bed with her physically, because astral planes and psychic sex is easier for Leo and Raph, and it's okay, there's no questions, because they're all they have, it's not even weird, they're not human and hahaha imagine human society trying to judge them at all, no wait humans have always judged will always judge them hate them hurt them, even Gaia former human now feline, the mutants who couldn't ever be human, they're turtles for fucks sake, they're mutant turtles, and Mikey himself, he's now so alien he's beyond mutant, and humans hate them so he has to keep them safe, might as well break all the rules because humans won't ever accept them, especially not him because he's too alien now, and and and

And Mikey doesn't realize he's making breathy giggling sounds and rocking back and forth, he's back in the fogginess that strangled him just before he was in that nightmare world, and he cries out a very tiny "...ooops" and it's like being under glass and-

He blinks rapidly. Donatello is holding him, they're both lying down. Donnie's hand is stroking his forehead. 

"Are you back?" Donnie asks. 

Mikey sighs heavily. "That shouldn't have happened."

"I know, little bro. I know. We need to get some food in you." Don sits up. 

"I'm not hungry."

"You are, you just don't feel it yet."

He sighs again and sits up, carefully moving to stand. Donnie's hand is light against his bicep. Right where the arm is gone in the nightmare. He feels cold. But Donnie is warm, and also Donnie is not a cyborg. 

Mikey walks very slowly and eventually the nightmare slides out of his mind.

Headcanon:

gray-asexual aromantic Leo, panromantic demisexual Don, aromantic pansexual Raph, gray-asexual demiromantic April, pansexual genderfluid neurogender demiboy Mikey, trysexual panromantic Casey. Games of Twister are fun.

It took me a while to figure Raph out. To me, he’s not a bubbling cauldron of hormones as much as a nervous pupper needing solace. A reader once asked why Gaia and Raph only had sex in the astral plane since Raph was so physical, and I said that that the point - Raph didn’t want to hurt anyone, no matter how much Gaia assured him about her fibromyalgia and cerebral palsy. In the spirit plane they can be as kinky and intense as they want.

“Apriltello” always made me feel weird precisely because I always see April as on the ace spectrum when not paired with Casey. The reason she was with Casey was because Kevin and Peter didn’t want her with a turtle and the turtles were most likely asexual themselves. But that was Mirage, in the 1980s, and it’s the late 2010s now. 2003, 2012, and IDW have shown that Donatello had a small crush on her. In my stories I very specifically ignored that in favor of pure platonic squishes, but I know it at least used to be there.

In the “Cold Fire Rising” sequels where I introduce my pansexual OC who has my disabilities, I involve Mike and Don in a polyamorous triad with her. Since she’s a telepathic neuropsychologist who is really fucking open about love, therapy sessions involve sex. For Raph and Leo, it’s astral plane only for Reasons. I know people don’t read “CFR 3: Lightning Crashes”, but it’s important to the AU, even with the “OC has sex with all four brothers plus Karai” thing.

Besides, the award-winning “CFR 4: Crossfire” might be a little confusing without it. So much comfort sex.

Ah, shit, that reminds me. “CFR 5: Mind Games” will finally have Mikey come out as autistic after Gaia and her sister Rhea blatantly point it out after Mike helps Donnie with a thing and Gaia’s like, “Guys, he’s autistic as fuck how did you not realize this? Oh right, isolation underground.” I know he (and Don) are aut in “Mikey The Lifegiver” and “The Sunshine Child” but if I’m going to give my OC my disabilities, well, blah blah blah. Fanfiction AU allows for many liberties.

Also I surprised myself with how much attention I’ve been giving Donatello in my fics outside of his relationship with Mikey. Donnie’s the fandom darling so I have my reasons for being so extremely Mikey-centric. But Donnie is growing on me as a point of view character. That means he’s in trouble.

I ran into a Facebook comment thread where people said that ADHD didn't exist or was common in everyone, and I was pleased to see how quickly they were corrected and shot down. It's as if people don't understand "disorder means chronic exaggerated traits, symptoms, and impairments" and if someone thinks it's normal, they might have it themselves.

And you know what, if neurodivergent folks want to project onto fictional characters that seem coded neurodivergent (or Asexual or Pansexual or what have you) that is fantastic and they damn well should. Especially fictional nonhuman characters who have existed in multiple forms, ages, and otherwise incarnations since the 1980s, when a lot of terms weren't known well.

TMNT Headcanon 223: Mikey And ADHD RSD

Michelangelo has been secretly reading textbooks on psychology and neurology. He looks for discarded magazines and reads them when his brothers think he is reading comics.

Many of the comics he often reads feature scientist characters and he soaks up their dialogue.

When Donatello explains Things, Mikey is repeating it in his mind, working to retain, and cautiously translating to the point where his family assumes he is daydreaming, getting distracted, not paying attention, or goofing off mentally.

Mikey keeps an encyclopedia of science terms in his room. He really does think his family will mock him, tease him, and disbelieve him. They know about his ADHD enough to be exasperated, but only April and Casey honestly get it without judgment.

He thinks that his sensei would especially not understand his issues and assign the exact kind of meditation he could never do. He prefers his meditation with noise, music, stimming, because clearing his mind isn’t possible.

This of course is based on my own ADHD Primarily Inattentive. I think Michelangelo has Combined ADHD.

This is for all Mikeys in every universe, but especially 2003, 2012, 2007, and 2016, even if in 2016 his family seems accepting.

I can see it in 2018 a little, but I feel like Rise Mikey would have more accepting accommodating brothers, even if they do get frustrated and annoyed.

So, yeah, ADHD is a unique executive functioning disorder and we’re still trying to figure out all its traits, symptoms, associated dysfunctions, even its name. Personally I like the term Cognitive Attentive Tempo Syndrome Disorder. Because I could say that my brain is full of dysfunctional CATS.

I can see Rise Mikey, like 2016 Mikey, with frequent Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria unique to ADHD, made worse due him being a mutant.

Hello! Sorry to disturb you but, recently with the "2012 tmnt show" it seems to me that there are some of the fans who likes the show bc of the relationships it has?? Like, if one of the turtles had one ep where it would not be focused on the relationships entirely...fans would get angry and would rant about the episode. I say that it is not necessary to have a show that's basically all about "love interest" because it will make the show unimportant

I honestly don’t know. Many fans came into the entire TMNT franchise through the 2012 show alone, and many fans, especially the young fans, are romantic idealists who want love and romance. Initially, the Turtles were created as asexual, and the creators had considered them turning to each other if sexual needs came up. In those original comics, fans were wondering which turtle would hook up with April. So Kevin and Peter created Casey Jones to be her eventual love interest. Much later, Leo and Mikey had brief love interests. But that was Mirage, and Kevin and Peter went their separate ways, with Peter overseeing the 1987 and 2003 cartoons and Kevin overseeing the 2012 cartoon. I think the 2012 cartoon has so much potential romance (April and Donatello, Karai and Leonardo, Raphael and Y’Gythgba, Michelangelo and Renet and  Shinigami) because they are all teenagers with hormones, and Kevin is okaywith that. Even Greg Cipes has joked that he’s cool with Mikey being polyamorous with Renet and Shini. It seems that “Apriltello” is not canon because the writers wanted them to be best friends, and young April, confused, kissed Donnie out of friendship and “squishes” - non-romantic crush. No one expected any Apriltello, but Nick, with Kevin’s blessing, made it a cringey focus and while I understand the turtles having been isolated, sheltered, and underground, thus Don falling for the first girl he sees, it still felt odd.Then again, I’ve been with the fandom since the late 1980s when I was a child. I followed everything. And I discovered fanfiction and headcanon, which meant “I can do what I want in my own mind with these characters!”Me? I headcanon the characters as the following: Leo gray-asexual, April gray-asexual (yes they can enjoy sex), Donnie hyperromantic somebody stop him with sex being scientific, Raph demisexual and hypersexual (once he connects, he can’t get enough), Mikey pansexual demiboy polyamorous, Casey trysexual. Mikey is also ADHD and autistic and Donnie is autistic but that is neither here nor there.See, I have two fanfic AU series where this happens. Some readers wondered why Raphael preferred astral plane sex with my disabled autistic poly psion OC who is Mikey’s best friend slash lover and I said it was because he was free to not have a body that could be too overwhelming. (long story)Naturally how I see it is my own feeling. I would love to see little to no romantic relationships, just squishy best friends - Mikey and Shini playing video games, Donnie and April doing science, Leo and Karai training. But we do need to accept that Nick is deliberately dangling ships in front of us so we can headcanon. I think that is the core of your question, Anon. I hope this made sense. Did I ramble? TMNT fanfic headcanon: sexuality, orientation, and identities

TFW you're writing fanfic AU stuff with canon characters that you made gray asexual, pansexual, demisexual, genderfluid, polyamorous, bisexual....hanging out with an OC who is pan, poly, neurogender femme, fluid, and the shared lover of their primary lover's siblings...and you wonder if you should poll your Ace spectrum friends about sex scenes that take place mostly in a spiritual meditative astral plane setting since the two strongest characters are happier being free to do anything kinky in the astral plane. There was a casual dialog between the pan poly OC and the Asexual canon human about "If you're scientifically and aesthetically curious you could watch us have sex" with "Yeah sure, might be fun"... but it's not happening mostly because I write sex scenes like I describe artwork and it could get awkward. (Writing the fic "Lightning Crashes" with the astral plane sex was, well, weirdly fascinating.) But now I've been considering a telepathic Meditation Session in which April, Gaia, and Mike and maybe Don discuss the mechanics of sexuality, and why April and Leo are gray ace, why Raph and Mikey and Don are pan and poly, why Don falls in love too quickly, why Raph and Leo have multiple kinks like whoa and Don has a science kink. If April kisses Don and feels nothing sexual or romantic, it would confirm many things for her. And this specific fic story is all about April, with Gaia’s therapy help, exploring her identities as a Kraang experiment, part mutant part alien human psionic with "abnormal" thoughts on sexuality (ie, finally realizing her asexuality and how her attractions to Donnie weren't romantic, just friendly), with unusual thoughts on life since her time in outer space and her training as a ninja. The concept of Apriltello romance is dashed to bits in this series - which is fine... because my other fanfic series "Lifegiver" gradually and happily embraces Capritello, plus Shiniangelo, Shinirai, Ramona, Leorai, Renetangelo when Renet comes around and Shini is still getting used to her. It's a pan poly tangle. It's fun. But in the CFR AU, in the Mind Games series, I want to deeply explore all sorts of relationships for this nutty wild bunch of teenage mutants who don't necessarily need to obey human social taboos*. Originally the turtles were created to be Asexual and to choose each other first, but that didn't mean they couldn't have meaningful relationships. (*OK. OK. Look, I am neutral to fine about what the fans call tcest. I subscribe to the whole idea that the Westernmarck effect never kicked in, that they aren't related, that they grew up calling themselves family but they're also full of turtle hormones and turtles will fuck other turtles without pause, that human taboos don't apply. I'll read tcest fic but I haven't written any unless asked. I call it Raised Together without the Westernmarck Effect thus no sex repulsion. There is consent and love and to me it matters. There, that's done, I have no desire to repeat. Did I disappoint and disgust you? Oops.)

@hummerhouse has been in the Fandom as long as I have and might just be the most prolific TMNT fanfic writer (for adults) with the most psychological and analytical 2003 fics. I only dream of catching up to that level of commitment and force, especially when Mikey is my muse, as well. One of few elders left, loaded with fandom history, fandom behind the scenes stories, fandom common sense.

Anyway, I thrive on other writers catching on to the character theories I've had for decades and creating their own devastatingly wonderful works of art, like @this-world-of-beautiful-monsters

03 Raph needs to talk about that nightmare of him being the shredder. And 03 Don needs to vent on the sainw thing. Imagine the 18 turtle helping.

I am planning on doing this in the eventual fanfic I’m working on based on that dream I had where 2018 met 2003. Everyone from 2003 gets group therapy! The Mikeys team up and read psychology textbooks. But 2003 Mikey keeps refusing to talk about stuff that bothers him, like his Ultimate Drako experience where he killed Alternate Evil Splinter and all the teasing about his Batt Nexus Championship and being seen as the class clown. 2018 Mikey has to drag him to his private art alcove and hold him while cries his face off. And then we get into SAINW with the Donnies, Shredder with the Raphs, everything with the Leos. Oooh, 2018 Leo is not prepared at aalll. And a group circle full of yelling and crying and guilt.

But yes, we need to discuss actual headcanons about how and what the Rise Turtles do to help 2003. Who wants to help out here?

A year later: Ah shit, I forgot to finish it. Real life SAINW was more interesting.

Oh hey so I finally started writing another 2012 one-shot for Cold Fire Rising: Mind Games and I actually feel really good in a hopeful way, like it's starting to pull me out of the apparent depression. Good for me!

Also, it's angsty as fuck because it's a SAINW AU but not really because it's a shared nightmare between Mikey and Donnie. Ahh, whump.
