axolotl-based alien... go! They are semi-aquatic, technically, but choose to spend most of their time below the reddish waters of their planet.

I'm not going to lie, some of this I just made up for funs and didn't care too much about the practicality for (the external gills, unlike in axolotls, do not have feathery bits. I'm not sure how this effects functionality of the gills. Also I just maked up the eyes for fun. And the feet. And tail. And teeth. And... Blah blah blah Star Wars Xenobiology s FAKE you get the picture). HOWEVER. I did try to figure out a lot of it.

The gills, for example, double for expression. They can flap out in fear/anger/curiosity/excitement/etc, or press flat to the head for happiness/aggitation/etc. Maybe wiggle? Or wave? The overall useage of the gills, tho, allows for them to be quite blunt, culturally. When their emotions are on both their face, body, AND gills, it's kind of hard to downplay anything. Might as well be verbally as upfront about it as the rest of their body.

They are, functionally, the humans of their planet. They fill the same niches, though obviously tailored to their planet instead. This is why the dentition is similar (omnivorous! But they get those extra canines for fun). Humans don't have a similar feature to compare to their countershading and wave reflection pattern, so I can't articulate specifically how that's similar, because it obviously isn't. So just bear with me, bc the train of thought is. Sharing niche -> humans are hunters -> this species hunts too -> water dwelling species use countershading. So that's how that matches up. The reflection pattern is for the same purpose as countershading, so that from above the pattern blends in. However, the patterns also double for identification. No two patterns are the same.

Uh last thing I want to mention is that I did want to throw in a tail or something. But then I didn't want to draw it. So ig they are born with tails and then lose them, like frog tadpoles, so that I can have best of both worlds (tail but don't have to draw it xoxo). The losing of a tail is probably a big deal, culturally speaking, as it would mark the transition from childhood to adolescence (or maybe adolescence to teenhood or something). My idea is that the practice is to bury the tail in an auspicious spot as a sort of ritual to be thankful for the childhood they had/prepare them for the future/stuff like that. I suppose in current times it's less burrying and more cremating.

Oh wait also. They're not super Force-sensitive, so there's rarely one that gets into the Jedi order. Maybe about 100 overall, tops. This does mean they are a bit... apprehensive of the Jedi. OKAY NOW IM DONE sorry for rambling!

everyone should just make up a bunch of star wars species. anything from the most basic near-human to the most out-there eldritch horror please. i'd like that

this was meant to be just a pose/clothing practice by way of a one-time OC for @starwars-art-eventsbut BY GOD I predictably got attached.

Her name is Shyyra and she's a sevent (maybe ninth) generation Coruscanti Togruta. She has absolutely no ties to her homeworld and she's fine with that--she hasn't even beenthere. She's happy on the top level of Coruscant, living lavishly on her upper-middle class money and family connections (we love a networking queen). She's a spinfluencer (space influencer) and she's vain and she's conceited and she deserves to be. Look at her. She's hot. Also she definitely has a THING for clones.
