Thoughts on the new minecraft update and the new mobs ghastling and happy ghast? I found them adorable

I get the mob vote discourse to a certain extent (I have a post on it), but I genuinely don't understand everyone hating on the new updates. I keep seeing all these videos being like "IS THIS THE END OF MINECRAFT?!?!?" or "MINECRAFT IS BORING NOW!!" and I don't really get it. These "labor of love" games that keep updating constantly are rare, y'know? Most companies would've come up with a Minecraft 7 at this point or paywalls covering updates (*cough cough* EA *cough cough*). The fact that they're still putting all this content into it after all these years is cool. And it clearly isn't dying, I mean, QSMP and Hermitcraft have a MASSIVE fanbase, and if you were to hop onto hypixel you'd still see a bunch of players. And pinterest is full of new builds and stuff all the time.

I feel like the people who are complaining are maybe just in a Minecraft slump? I know that sometimes I just. Don't feel like it. And that's okay, I'll wait for a month or so and then hop back on. But whatever their reason, I feel like putting all that negativity on the devs and the community (especially the people who are still hyped about the new updates and stuff) just really brings the vibe down. I get constructive criticism—that's important and good talks to have—but I feel like right now, people are just complaining. It's borderline toxic fanbase stuff, sometimes.

Anyways remember that above all the point is to have fun!! If you aren't having fun, you can just, y'know, not engage. But if you are having fun, keep at it! Don't let anyone else kill your vibe.

Controversial Take

Since Endermen can't take water baths, I fully believe that they either A: take dust baths like chinchillas or B: groom themselves like cats.

Which could imply that Endermen have fur. Following my dust bath hypothesis, them hating water would make sense. Why? Because their fur could be dense enough to trap water and cause mold to grow. So, basically, water doesn't actually physically hurt them, but it could cause issues down the line that they're fully aware of and want to avoid.

But, if they groom themselves like cats, then the water hatred could simply be them displaying cat-like tendencies. Most cats hate water because it makes their fur feel heavy and cold. This could be the same reason the Endermen hate water.

I am fully prepared to both die on this hill and defend my argument with science.

watching a video about minecraft's early history

its weirdly humbling to find out that people have been complaining about combat and progression for as long as minecraft has had combat and progression.

on the one hand it makes me feel silly for thinking this is a new thing and not what minecraft has always been, but on the other hand i feel weirdly vindicated.

i am no longer just one person* complaining on the internet about a video game for children, I am part of an unbroken lineage of people complaining on the internet about a video game for children, one that now stretches back decades.

the issue with minecraft is that while it tries to be the "do anything" game, the "do anything" sandbox mechanics only extend to the building, everything else is pretty linear and barebones, this leads to the game getting boring quick if you focus on something besides JUST building projevts; as well as basically all community toxicity being a result of builders and non-builders arguing over what the game is "about" when it should, in theory, allow for "making your own fun" regardless of playstyle. the issue isn't "stupid nonbuilders trying to turn the game into terraria", it's people who enjoy the other aspects of minecraft that want to play in a sandbox world that has more depth in aspects besides building. "don't like it don't play it" and "just add mods bro" contribute nothing to the discussion so please refrain from that.

i know it wants to be a game about creativity and modularity, but that can apply beyond just building. i have seen what potential minecraft has through mods, it could be the ultimate sandbox, but it just isn't, it's just missing so much. the game deserves more. sandbox doesn't mean building game.

yes, the progression may be broken and the exploration is bland, not to mention enchanting is literal gambling and copper continues to be needlessly common, but the real issue is that it's not a sandbox, it's a Lego set.

so I don't love the new villager changes. but I also don't hate them

this is probably old news by now but WHATEVER

I love pretty much everything other than the librarian changes, and the only two reasons are Too Expensive! and villager transportation.

so the simple solution I have is to allow villagers to ride on camels. (also remove too expensive but that's not the main point of this)

to clarify incase somehow you missed it, Minecraft 1.20.2 introduced optional (love that they made it optional) villager changes that among other things make librarians sell different enchanted books depending on the biome type they are. some enchanted books are locked behind villager types that don't naturally spawn, so you have to get two villagers to that biome and breed them to get the enchantments.

a lot of transportation in minecraft is redundant. elytra outclasses every intended movement method, and most of them don't have much of a use beyond movement. camels allow two players to ride instead of one, like boats for land. speaking of which, boats on land are the primary way I've transported villagers whenever ive done so, it's awful.

currently, in order to transport villagers, there's about 4 viable options. minecarts, boat travel on water, boat on land/boat sky bridge, and boat nether travel. things like minecarts are super resource intensive, boat on water takes luck, skybridge is ugly and boring, and nether travel takes as much time to set up as riding a boat in the over world from the beginning does.

time is the main problem here. none of these things except the nether takes skill. the nether mostly just takes skill not to die and lose the villager, and if you're not able to do that well then go ride a boat in a straight line for 30 minutes instead of 10, twice. every other tedious thing in Minecraft is done to prevent risk. strip mining is tedious right? well if you're bored you can go caving instead! waiting for cows to grow up? you could go exploring for more cows! traveling in the nether by tunneling near the top? you could also go down and fight for your life!

in every way, villager transportation is boring, but usually pretty safe. this is where camels come in! instead of slowly rowing, you could be down on the ground avoiding mobs and seeing the sights and having fun with a villager in the back seat. more fun for players, gives a use for camels in single player, hopefully pretty balanced.

you still have to find a camel, but with the new biome structure maps from villagers, it shouldn't be too hard. villagers will get off the camel when it sits down, meaning it won't happen while in motion.

I doubt this'll ever actually happen, but I had an idea and it wouldn't leave. i want more villager balance I like the idea but in practice it's really boring to transport villagers and the villager changes exacerbate that problem.

The complete dismissal of context when people talk about laurance and what happend at the wedding is kinda insane actually because I do not know how you can look at that situation and say "oh it's because laurance cannot handle being jealous." Genuinely did we watch the same show?

He was MIA for 2-3 days with a woman who defiantly does not respect consent, is brought to the werewolves where he learns aphmau is being human trafficked and married off against her will, then is immediately ordered to be executed. Laurance does not know fenrir, he has no way of knowing what kind of person he is, what he might have forced aphmau to do already. He sits in a cell awaiting his execution until the wedding where Aphmau tearfully says she's sorry to him under his breath as she passes. A woman who has only displayed unshaking determination in the face of adversity is meek and crying.

And if that wasn't enough, they skipped 15 years, he found his dead wyverns grave robbed, he learned his only other father figure died in that time and he never got the chance to see him one last time. This sounds like I'm pulling every trama out of my ass to defend him but it's been literally TWENTY fucking episodes since the beginning of the season all of this has happened right next to each other. Everything's fresh. This isn't a display of jelously, this is a breakdown.

I'm genuinely shocked anyone can see it as anything else. This has been built up since he came back from the nether as a shadow knight and refused to discuss anything that happened there. You look me in the eyes, and tell me that if you were in his position and you saw someone you loved being literally TRAFFIKED INTO AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE you wouldn't fight like hell to get them out if that situation.

Edit: Sorry, I know the post above sounds a little heated but I just keep seeing this circulate and needed to throw this into the discussion. I didn't mention it that much above but laurances losing control was absolutely a byproduct of being a shadow knight because I can say with absolutely certainly that were laurance not a shadow knight he would have refrained from killing anyone. (He even does it later with michi. Even though I wish he'd just let aphmau ice her) It's hard to differentiate what personality changes take place because he's a shadow knight vs what is caused by the trama he's experienced but since there's implied to be a sort of bloodlust I'd wager that's the more likely option. He reached a breaking point and lost the self control that was preventing him from basically rampaging. The reason the kiss worked wasn't because laurance "got what he wanted" or whatever it's because the action was so shocking it basically hard reboot his brain and cleared the red fog of violence that was clouding his thinking.

another Minecraft SOS update for you all, this time about why there's a "no lore" rule put in place.

Here are my own personal thoughts about this: Good. I think a lot of us would agree that Empires s2 fizzled out at the end and that it was clear, even if they didn't show it, that the CCs were just not that passionate about it anymore. I think part of that has to do with the scripted lore stuff (the other thing would be the crossover which I have a lot of Thoughts about but it might be a bit too controversial, ig if you see an mcytblr confession about the crossover being *ahem* mid then you know who wrote it).

While the elaborate backstories and planned lore segments had their place... these are Minecraft creators, not actors or writers, and I'm sorry to say, but the obvious Lore moments were just a bit awkward and ill-conceived to watch sometimes. I like roleplay-based SMPs, but I prefer it when the bulk of the lore is kept to the fandom, yk? It leaves more room for imagination.

Minecraft storytelling is at its best when it is improv, which is why Empires 1 worked better. I feel like forcing a traditional storytelling structure on a non-traditional format is limiting the strength of the medium (can you tell I also want to write a paper on Minecraft storytelling and its completely unique approach to narrative and the dimensionality of characters, completely deconstructing/transforming the concept of the "protagonist?").

i wasnt gonna say any more about this on tumblr dot com but ive been watching tubbos stream out of curiosity and ruminating on it, because seeing screenshots and transcripts of dreams response video out of context the bullshit is blatantly obvious when you lay it out, but actually watching the video, he's just as persuasive as he was in 2020 when he made that response video about the speedrunning drama. even though the math doesn't check out, he speaks very confidently and presents bullshit things as if theyre obvious and true, it's easy to see why someone might believe him. so of course im sure tommy enjoyers around the world are worried that people will actually genuinely believe him and what that will mean for tommy.

i personally find it humorous how none of that vitriol and frothing at the mouth is present in the video itself, it's all been channeled into the sloppy bullshitting and forgery and baseless accusations. you have to understand, this video's target audience is his casual youtube audience consisting of ipad babies who watch his regurgitated minecraft slop and whoever else is tuning in for dream vs. tommy drama (aka, very few), he's trying VERY HARD to convince casual viewers that he's been VERY NORMAL about all of this and he's just making a little 9 minute video in response being very very nice and all sunshine and rainbows about tommy. yes they might have their disagreements but in the end dream is vewy proud of you tommy PleadingEyes (girl.)

but with this, assuming normal casual person tuning in at worst their conclusion is going to be these people both seem cringe. in terms of what a youtuber can be accused of, none of his accusations of tommy are that egregious even if they're baseless and bullshit because the intent is not to DESTROY TOMMY FOREVER it's to undermine tommy's credibility and get himself off scot free. in terms of the grand scheme, what he's accusing tommy off is just being an unserious clout chaser who's made some questionable business decisions, which is quite nothing. and dream is a loser for caring about something so nothing. when ive been looking around this seems to be the conclusion for people who are not waist deep in dream smp sludge

of course, it's infuriating that he's doing this, this seems to be his go-to when he receives criticism. to just attack other people's credibility to not even Have to address any criticism himself. why does it matter what they said? they clearly can't be trusted. unlike me, dream, a very normal and sane person who definitely didn't froth at the mouth with vitriol on twitter and onstream for 3 hours and make several reddit posts and then a youtube video because god forbid some people think he's an unpleasant person behind the scenes. i wonder why they think that!

Compiling additional proof against Wilbur into one, easy to understand list.

I'm making a simple list that anyone can refer to when faced with doubts about Shelby's and other victims claims. I don't know if this will reach the right audience, or reach anyone at all, but i'd like to get it off my chest.

Why do I care so much? Because i've followed Wilbur since his day on the Jacksucksatlife channel. He had a great influence over me as a teenager, and it sucks that he was an asshole all along. I want to see him fail, that's all.

Main points are all in Shelby, Nikki, Minx and other creators' videos on him. These are just small details that are easily missed.

Wilbur being abusive towards his friends

The first video in particular really highlights the amount of power that Wilbur holds. "Tell them about how awful I am to you" seems like a dangerous thing to say as someone who is actually abusive, but it's likely that he knows he can get away with it. He doesn't expect anyone to call him out on his behaviour.

The other problem I have with this clip aside from the taunting, is the vacuum cleaner. He asks her to tell the people watching about her experience, and immediately starts vacuuming for no reason which drowns out the noise of her speaking. Feel free to tell me i'm looking into this too much, but this is how I feel about it: It's him (knowingly or unknowingly) showing off his power. Showing that he's in control even when she's talking about the biting, creating an understanding that it's not a serious issue and that it's just a joke. His humour makes the audience laugh along at an issue that we now understand wasn't funny.

A clip talking about how Wilbur threw Niki because she playfully said she was big and strong. His quick sentence "you were saying you were stronger than-" could either be him misremembering, deciding to ignore that detail, or literally saying that he interpreted her actions as claiming to be stronger than him. He says it was a "consensual throwing" but we already know how terrible he is with consent. TLDW: Niki said she was big and strong so Wilbur threw her "to assert dominance" (and show that he was stronger than her).

Niki has confirmed that she "knew wilbur in that way", but aside from mentioning the biting habit, she doesn't want to talk about it. She just said that that period was a dark time in her life. No one should ask her to talk more about this (or even bring it up around her), but it is unfortunately possible that she carries even more horrible experiences about Will with her.

In Tommy's disneyland vlog, there is a short clip where Tommy playfully unties Wilbur's shoelaces and gets his hand stomped on. Thing like these flew under the radar because of their brotherly bond. You'd expect two young brothers to react like this, but not a grown man and his teenage friend. Tommy tells him that his finger got cut, and instead of apologizing, Wilbur says it was because Tommy was gonna untie his shoelaces. He essentially says that Tommy had it coming, that it was his fault he got hurt.

The biting behaviour wasn't exclusive to romantic partners. This is a clip of him biting Tommy's hand "for content", despite Tommy repeatedly shouting no. The biting isn't bad here, but it once again proves that this was something he genuinely did.

The story starts at 0:38. Here, Wilbur tells the story of how he helped Techno pick apples by gently throwing them so Techno could put them in the basket. Techno says that Wilbur is very bad at throwing. In response, Wilbur says that he threw an apple as hard as he could, aiming for his stomach. Instead, he accidentally hit the shoulder that his surgery was on. Anyone who's been hit in the stomach should know how painful it is. If Wilbur were to throw an apple has hard as he could at his stomach, it would seriously hurt. But he laughs it off. Wilbur once again claims that the person he hurt deserved it, because techno made fun of his throwing ability. I've heard that Techno's dad yelled at Wilbur for doing it, but even then, he still laughs about the story.

Wilbur's music and separating it from the artist

It's completely natural for a musician with a history of bad mental health to blame himself in his music. One of Wilbur's biggest inspirations, Crywank, have lots of songs about being a bad person. A symptom of depression is to believe you're a bad person. But as far as we know, Wilbur's music actually told the truth.

I can't find the tweet, but we also know that one of wilburs old friends(?) came out with the info that Lovejoy's song "concrete" was based on their experience, and the song explains Wilbur's neglectful behaviour.

You should know what Lovejoy's music is about. A lot of it is based on toxic relationships, being cheated on, being abused. It is a complete mockery of the people that he hurt. "Call me what you like" is clearly about being in an abusive relationship where his partner takes advantage of him and cheats on him. She forces him to "bump his head into every doorway she sees suitable for them to go through". Not that he knows what the song he wrote is about though, since he couldn't recall a single thing about the song during the genius interview. Yes, he was high, but he may as well had someone ghostwrite it for him.

Singing "you claim your ex-boyfriend's a policeman, I say you need better standards" in the song Perfume is crazy when his standards are allowing abuse to happen.

When listening to Scum, you repeatedly hear him admitting to being scum and waste. Concrete is about how he's a piece of shit. Consequences should remind you of the actual consequences of his actions. I already explained what's wrong with "your sister was right". His parody songs are direct reflections of his real personality.

However, if you still want to listen to him - spotify has a feature where you can put local files into your playlists. If you have his music downloaded, you can listen to it on spotify without giving him money or views. Just saying.

Why he can get away with it

Look at him. He is an attractive white man in the UK, And pretty privilege is a thing, no matter how you look at it. He's popular and has gotten empathy from impressionable teenagers on the internet. A lot of people have put him on a pedestal after he showed support for the LGBT+ community and BLM, singing about being against capitalism. People feel bad for him because of his history with mental health problems. They excuse his actions because he was depressed during his relationships. He also has a pattern of exclusively targeting those weaker than him. Tiny women who he can pin down, throw or bite to show he's stronger than, and teenager Tommy who believed they had a brother dynamic. You will also notice that the only people who have shared their experience with him have been women who didn’t feel strong enough to fight back against him. He is a manipulator through and through.

This is not all the proof there is

If you need more convincing, watch other creator's videos and statements on the subject. Shelby, Niki, Minx, Alicenyannya. There are also more small things that he has done that add up, either violent behaviour, yelling, or ignoring people's boundaries.

You can keep uselessly arguing about why he acted this way, but the physical abuse is undeniable, and I hope that the other points in this post has shown his disrespect for consent (ignoring people saying no), manipulative behaviour (victim blaming, making it seem like a joke) and lack of care for the consequences of his actions (stomping on tommy's hand, throwing an apple as hard as he can at techno, throwing niki, biting his girlfriends).

Thank you to anyone who got this far, I hope someone will get use out of it. I'm happy to finally get what I wanted to say out there.

I'm not going to harp much on That Guy or his defenders, because it won't accomplish much, and rage bait is the only thing keeping him relevant in the year 2025.

But I can't help but laugh at the assertion that 20 and 16 isn't that significant of a difference in age or power, because what that tells me (setting aside the possibility of, hm... let's say, lying with nefarious intent) is that either A) you don't really talk to many people outside your age bracket, or B) you are so socially and emotionally stunted that of course you wouldn't perceive a difference, because those children genuinely are more mature than you are.

hi!! idk if i’m the most qualified to answer this since i don’t have the most information and it might not be accurate so if anyone else wants to add please do!!

from what i know: a while ago (i’m talking MyStreet season 1/2) Sebastian Todd used clips from Aphmau’s Phoenix Drop High series for a blooper video he posted and it made Jess and Jason upset since he didn’t ask permission so they kind of ghosted him and Laurance wasn’t seen for a while the first time. i think during this time he filmed a live stream where someone asked if he’d ever come back to be Laurance and he said something along the lines of “Jess was a terrible boss and I hated working with her” (not exactly what he said, but a summarized version)

also during this time he was complaining about not getting jobs for voice acting which is kind of looked down upon in that community so i think that’s why people didn’t hire him too?

but anyways, obviously he was rehired because Laurance came back for MyStreet season 3 and MCD Rebirth, but someone (i don’t know who) said that he was just a toxic person and very difficult to work with

I’ve also been told that he had some mental disorders and they all sort of piled up and a couple years ago he had an episode and attacked some of his fans on social media, so…

I’m not sure what he does now but from what I’ve heard he’s changed his name and has assumed a more gaming/work out brand for himself. I’ve also heard he makes adult content now but I’m not 100% sure on that since I haven’t (and don’t want to) looked into that

again i’m not the most qualified person for this and basically everything i just said is word of mouth!! if i’m wrong about something please correct me respectfully and if you know more about Laurance’s original VA please add to this post!

regardless to say I think DJ Hansen (the VA who voiced Laurance in Jessica’s anniversary video) did a phenomenal job and I hope we get to see more of him!!
