Entity 303 + NULL explorations for my minecraft hc/world lore idek just trying to fit them in somehow cuz i think they look kinda cool.

I think way too much about Minecraft steve (not the movie version). Or just the player character anyway. He is almost a personification of loneliness to me. He wakes up in a terrifyingly empty world with nothing on him and no memories. The first time he sees something that looks like him its a monster that only wants to kill him. When he finally does find other people he cant understand them and they look nothing like him. Steve cant die and seems ever hurtling towards some unknown destiny with some of his paintings such as the wither one indicating some half remembered nightmares. If he does die he just wakes up as if from a nightmare. Returning to his last place of death he can collect his things from his own corpse making sure to hurry before it comes alive. He has no culture, an unknown past that he cant quite remember, and no clear place of origin. He is so terribly alone.

But What If He Was Not Alone

The myth of herobrine to me works so well with my idea of steve. He sees something. Just out of the corner of his eye just for a second he thought he saw himself. He was sure it must have just been a zombie and hed just seen it moments before it crumbled to dust. It must have been. But then this isnt the first time he’s seen something. Sometimes he finds small purposeless builds with no clear purpose. He knows he didnt build them. Sometimes he’ll come home to find the items in his storage have been moved around as if something had been looking through them. Steve has only seen Him once. It was a foggy day and the sun made the fog glow in the daylight. It was blinding and difficult to see far in any direction. That’s when he saw Him standing just at the edge of what he could see through the fog. It looked like him. No green rotting skin, no foreign language or features. No eyes. Faced with something he thought he would never see, a familiar face, he ran.

Steve hasnt seen Him since. But sometimes he will feel the hair on the back of his neck stand up and he will know that He is watching. He never turns around to look. If he doesn’t see it again he can blame it on delirium. He must have just been sleep deprived that day. He must have just been malnourished. But deep downs he knows what he saw. And he knows that It saw him.

minecraft “lore” idea: what if the villagers have last names based on their careers (i.e a librarian’s last name could be “Bookkeeper”). When Steve meets the villagers he decides he ought to have a last name, and following the villager custom of a last name being based on what you do, he calls himself Steve Minecraft.

Notes on the biology of a creeper

Creepers have been of particular interest of the society for quite some time due to their strange behaviors and the difficulty in finding an in tact specimen.

Their habit of detonating whenever anyone gets close to them accounts for both. After all why would any creature want to die just for the mere chance of killing another creature. After intense research we believe we have discovered the reason

Dissection of the creature revealed that it is not any kind of animal at all but instead the head of a highly adapted fungus. Like many fungi it feeds on decay and exist underground for most of its life. Unlike other fungi however when it is ready to reproduce it grows a large mushroom that is mobile and independent.

This mushroom is what we call the creeper. Larger than your typical mushroom but much smaller than the giant variants found in the darkest forests. Inside the creeper is a large pouch of spores and a detonator. The detonator functions by taking in air through the holes in its “face” and compressing great amounts of it over time. When the creeper has amassed enough compressed air it finds some form of medium sized fauna and triggers itself. The air decompresses slowly at first to allow the creeper time to cancel the detonation if its target moves to far away. This slower decompression is what makes the distinctive hiss noise. Once the decompression reaches a certain point the reaction cannot be stopped and the rest of the air is released all at once causing the creeper to explode dispersing its spores onto a hopefully newly decaying body.

Several good specimens were destroyed (and researchers injured) by accidentally activating the detonation during the dissection. It also seems that the compressed air is highly flammable and the creepers produce a small amount of explosive powder to ignite the oxygen just before it expands aiding in a more destructive explosion.

In regards to the charged variant of the creeper

We have not been able to safely capture and dissect a charged creeper, in fact such a task may prove impossible, but from our observations of the non charged variant we have a hypothesis. The creepers biomass may be structured in a way that can coincidentally hold a current of electricity without prematurely detonating the oxygen. This is not a guarantee as we have witnessed several creepers simply explode upon being struck by lightning but in rare cases we believe it is possible that the rubbery outer shell of the creeper works to dampen the initial impact of the lightning bolt while simultaneously holding the charge and cycling it around the body. The lightning is unable to reach the ground and is trapped on the creeper until detonation which releases the force of the bolt and increases the radius of the explosion.

As far as its strange fear of cats goes we believe that cats may be responsible for enough premature detonations of the creatures by popping the oxygen sack with their claws that the creepers have adapted to avoid them at all costs. A cat is not very big and not worth wasting s detonation on.

Senses

Since the creeper does not have a true face and only possesses holes for collecting oxygen it stumped us for a while how they are able to know where we are. It seems to have no method of smelling or hearing either. However when we placed a creeper into a cadge with an iron floor the thing seemed very confused. It wandered around seeming to have no idea where it was going. If we stomped our feet it could follow vibrations vaguely but was still very inaccurate. Upon investigation of the earth very closely we discovered tiny fibers of fungal networks. We believe these produce the creepers as well as communicate with them, guiding them to their targets.

It seems that the fungus can only produce a creeper under the correct light levels, so keeping our cities well lit remains the best defense against creepers. When forced into a fight against a creeper it os best to use ranged weapons and to aim for the “head.” If the head is sufficiently damaged the oxygen will decompress slow enough to prevent detonation. After threat of detonation has been removed you are free to harvest the body for its explosive powder which may be useful in new ordinance
