The encounter is brief.

In the orange smeared skies of Hoenn, two travelers cross paths. They cross, and they clash. Two forces of nature, of the darkness and of the malleable, collide as forces of nature often do. 

Psychic power ripples across the mountaintops as Deoxys dives for cover, then the air cracks and whistles around it as its razor wings pull it suddenly into a sharp ascent. Shadows brush the cliffs in its wake as the embodiment of nightmares follows, soundless and wretched, a shadow in the sunset.

Wings morph into hands, and psychic energy congeals in Deoxys’s grip before being flung down toward the pursuing shadow. Dust scatters. Rocks crumble. Darkrai pursues, raising its head to the blinding sweetness of the sun and spreading its arms.

Darkness pulses around it and outward, arcs of shadow smearing the sunset and blotting out the shy evening stars. Deoxys wails and thrashes in a rage. Its body convulses under the assault, pulling taught and thin before turning tail to slice across the horizon and into the coming night.

Darkai pauses a moment against the stars to watch its opponent retreat, then it continues on its way.

As swiftly as they met, the travelers part and continue on their own paths, each wholly unaware and uncaring of what their fateful encounter has wrought below.
