I miss your opinions on twitter! and i wanted to ask you something (no idea if you’ll ever see this 😭) but do you think that the condescending way jackie acted towards shauna was because shauna is an unreliable narrator and that didn’t happen at all? bc i genuinely think that shauna’s bitterness towards jackie was justified (until the moment she had sex with jeff), i always think about that post of yours saying that the audience sees jackie like shauna did helpless little lamb or heinous bitch…

So honestly I have watched s1 an ungodly amount of times and studied every jackieshauna scene and I don’t think that jackie did anything that isn’t the most boring basic unavoidable occasional snark within a best friendship. She’s not perfect by any means, people really simplify her character both positively and negatively, and I actually think people diminish how fucked up she could’ve become out there. But the thing that I think happens is people taking what shauna says during their fight at face value instead of really digging in to what’s toxic between them.

For example, Shauna says “You're so obsessed with yourself, I'm surprised you're aware other people even exist.” It makes sense that shauna would say that. She thinks that’s true. But if you take it at face value and think “ah yes jackie is self absorbed and ignores shauna” you’re ignoring the rest of the show.

Firstly, that’s projection. Shauna even writes in her journal in s2 “I used to think jackie MADE me feel this way, but…” SHAUNA is obsessed with jackie. Shauna can’t think about anything without jackie entering her thoughts and influencing her. She thinks that is something that jackie is DOING to her, when it’s really just the nature of their relationship. They built this codependent entanglement together, brick by brick baby!!

And secondly, we KNOW jackie isn’t obsessed with herself over shauna. She is CONSTANTLY thinking about shauna. She gives shauna her last bite of food, she pulls her off of the burning plane, etc etc. Jackie’s biggest creation of tension in their relationship is actually that she cannot stop clinging to shauna. Shauna is quite literally her will to live, once jackie feels she’s lost Shauna’s love she gives up on life entirely. Almost all of their little spats actually relate to jackie suffocating shauna with how MUCH she cares. But Shauna can’t see that, it’s hard to see when you’re in it and when you have your own equally codependent behavior going on.

This took a round about route, but basically I wouldn’t call it unreliable narration necessarily. I think SHAUNA is an unreliable narrator in her own mind, twisting things in amazing ways with not just jackie but everyone lol. But no, I don’t think the show is giving us unreliable narration in the sense that what we see on screen between them didn’t happen that way.

I think a lot of viewers have surface level analysis of the show that makes THEM view or remember things in a way that doesn’t really align with the story. Which is fine, that’s a thing, not everyone is studying the show, memory doesn’t serve us particularly well with things far more important than scenes from a television show lol. But when people do analysis in fandom that feels based on a surface level read of a watch that was perhaps a long time ago, it does lead to conclusions that a lot of people who have really dug in will roll their eyes at I think.

As far as whether it is justified goes, I don’t really have many opinions on justification of feelings or actions, it’s just not an area of interest for me. You could give me any event from this show and I could probably argue for and against it being justified, I just don’t care much about that aspect personally!

Yes! He actually has some cool stuff that only he can do.

The first thing is his regeneration. War has the ability to regenerate his body when he suffers some kind of physical damage, he can get back into the fight faster than any other god!

But, visually it is not very attractive since it is practically made of a mass of blood, then, it simply melts while trying to return to its physical form.

The second thing is that he can practically control the snakes as if he were a puppeteer. He can control their bodies and their minds. What's the use of this? Nobody knows! He doesn't even know why he can do that! But hey, it's pretty cool.

The reason why they are snakes in particular is because they represent the god Huitzilopochtli (The Aztec god that I based War on)

In itself, Huitzilopochtli's weapon is a snake but shh.

Snakes will never attack War no matter how violent they are.

The last cool thing is his weapon. His weapon is based on the Macuahuitl, weapons that warriors used to attack.

These swords were made of wood and obsidian, they were so sharp that they could even cut a person's throat with the first use.

His weapon was a gift from the other gods. It is made of wood, obsidian and something, a little bit of magic, just a little bit.

Magic causes the obsidian to not break when the weapon is used, making it practically indestructible.

War doesn't really have any powers. But he is skilled with his weapon. He has practically destroyed civilizations with this.

when in reality, you'd. you'd definitely know it. post-mortem photos are usually pretty obvious, because they're not really trying to make the people look awake and alive. either they're coffin photos, or they're of people in reclining positions. there is no such thing as a standing post-mortem photo or one where the subject is sitting fully upright; posing stands were flimsy things designed to help living people keep still during longer-than-modern exposure times. they cannot support dead weight. if a person is supporting themself in a photo, congrats- they're alive

if a person's eyes are fully open, they're alive

if it's being touted as "you'd never guess they were dead BUT-" they're alive. I saw one once which showed a (living) teen girl and claimed her body had been hung from the ceiling with wires to appear upright. corpse marionette action. and people call the actual Victorians morbid

in short, if they look awake and alive. they're alive. boring but true

Rainier doesn't want to be perceived as powerless - he's very obsessed with appearances, and looking the Best, being Rich, getting what he Wants. (this is extra juicy bc some of the changes I've made to claws absolutely take power away from him - for one thing, his sister's cut him off from the Mortem Money). It's part of why most of his relationships have been with people he has power over in some way; he gets to be superior, in control.

Vivien (apart from not wanting to be perceived as a girl. or just. in general) doesn't want to be seen as a freak, a weirdo, a monster. He feels that way for so many reasons - not just because he's got Demon Shit going on inside him - but he really really hates when people look at him in pity or disgust. it's not so much that he wants to be 'normal', but that he doesn't want to be seen as abnormal. which is why it's so fun to pair him with Rainier, who he thinks sees him as a regular hot boy (and who does actually come to love him, in a fucked up, ichor-induced fashion)

and the Obedience lads as well, because of course:

Rizeth is afraid of being seen as a monster - in the sense of an abusive, Stereotypical Menzoberranyr Lolthite cultist. More of this is gonna come out in the next Arc 4 book, because being in a relationship again is triggering all his old bad Patterns, but it's been there the whole time: he's so so so careful with Ashenivir, he keeps himself distant from everyone, he's deliberately suppressed his accent as much as possible - but he knows how people still see him, and he's so afraid that he is that, somewhere deep down; that it'll come out one day and hurt the people (person. Ashenivir) he cares about most.

Ashenivir fears being seen as a failure. Thanks Matron Zauvym, you gave a perfectly sweet boy anxiety and a crippling case of perfectionism. But also, thanks Rizeth, for helping him be able to overcome that in himself <3

Thinking about them in the Ad Mortem AU again. Hoping to make insane content about it. It has been. Ages since I have dabbled with it, but I'm vibing again.

I hope my evil blorbos know that I love them and their Horrors of Being. They have conquered my brain.

I'm not entirely happy with Soul's messy uniform design, but there will be time to tweak him, and give him a more iconic fit. Wanting to do different outfits. Mostly establishing vibes rn.

These designs are meant to align with the canon ages at the start of the anime, which I hope shows in the current face shapes. Will do some older designs as well, if the brain permits it.

Vizerxa Mortem!

Vizerxa is the second Eldest daughter of Queen Fractal, the (second to) Last Ruler of Amist Memoriam. She's a Draconic who lost her wings to an "accident" caused by Sidera, where her own magic backfired and tore apart the wing membrane. She got them officially amputated some time after joining the Fallen Pantheon.

She was the trusted advisor of Light Song and the one who won the Deorum War (three sided war between Salha's three Pantheons) and became named the God of Observation and Strategy.

She stood by while Light Song committed horrid crimes, causing immense guilt in her. She stayed, though, to take Light Song's power and eventually overthrow her.

She adopted two children; Ezeri and Xicuri, and fought Light Song to protect them when she tried to drag them into her experiments for creating new dangerous poisons.

Vizerxa succeeded in the Lost Rulers battle, the last fight between the Fallen and Celestial Pantheon, and took Light Song's place as Leader of the Fallen Pantheon, bringing a new era of peace.

Thank you! I'm getting back to normal and yes, Danegeld will be updated. I will be finishing that thing if it kills me! I've got two chapters written but had to be fixed slightly before publishing as I had the whole time travel plot start moving into the past. There's... A lot of goddamn ways to do time travel plots who'd've thunk.

I also had to solve the problem about how to chart Arthur's ebb and flow relationship with his mother and match it where the cultural relationship of the divine feminine or just the feminine in general and how that looks when mother, son and grandson son are equally vicious cunts but in extremely different flavors. Eirian as firmly in the pre-Roman iron age with possible memory to the bronze age with some knowledge of the néolithique. Arthur who firmly counts his descent from many places but with a nonetheless Celtic family and went from his mother's paganism to three more flavors of paganism before finally Christianity. But then Christianity becomes Catholism, protestantism, the church of narcissism and then cultural diversity finally reaching all the way round into a functionally polytheistic society. And then the puritanical upbringing of the grandson. That's right in case you thought I was only going to commit one kind of sacrilege, I'm on a roll. And how they will react to this world where the Pagan and Christian are still locking horns is all in that.
