author’s note : yes i did put leon in a henley. specifically black or gray. if any artists see this i encourage you to draw him in one. also picture any version of him you want.

leon didn’t get many days off but when he did it was often dull in comparison to his usually turbulent life. sitting and lazing around was not an option. he couldn’t sit still and mindlessly watch tv to pass time.

so on a whim, he decided to stop by non other than a barnes & noble.

was he a reader? casually, yes but definitely not enough to go out of his way to browse bookstores. most of his copies are old, well-loved, gifts from friends. but why not try something new?

the evening was chilly— enough for a long-sleeve and a hot drink. dark. storm clouds threatening possible rain overhead. the atmosphere for a good mystery novel was perfect.

stepping inside, leon is immediately hit with the smell of fresh paper and coffee. he takes a careful scan around. lots of choices, he notes mentally.

“welcome in!” a voice calls from his left and the blond is quick to find its source.

and to his pleasant surprise, he finds you, looking awful friendly in a wool sweater and a smile.

“can i help you find anything?” you wonder, rounding the front counter and making your way toward him.

he takes notice that you smell really nice. and— wow, you’re much prettier up close.

“uh, yeah, actually,” comes his steady timbre, hands stuffed in his pockets, henley stretching deliciously across his broad chest. “i was hoping you could lead me toward the mystery, or thriller, section?”

you beam at that, pretty smile widening, displaying teeth. “absolutely. this way.”

waving a hand in a silent follow me gesture, leon follows you to the back where a wide selection of mystery and thriller novels sat, spanning from short books to long slow-burns.

“personally, i recommend this one if you’re into classics,” you grin, having plucked a copy of agatha christie’s murder on the orient express. “it’s a classic for a reason! snowy terrain, trapped-whodunit vibes. i think you’d like it.”

you’re rambling. and it’s precious.

the usual blank expression on his pretty face lightens up as the corner of his mouth rises in a very subtle half-smile. your spirit is refreshing.

“and if you’re into seasonal stuff, i’ve got halloween and christmas themed stuff. too.”

leon hadn’t even realized it until he glanced down at the bulky watch on his wrist but he stood in that mystery section talking to you for twenty minutes. not that he was complaining, but time sure does fly.

you’re already ringing him up by the time his hands touch the counter, gaze unmoving, watching you like a hawk.

“aaand that’ll be $45.19,” you beam, hands clasped in front of you.

he tilts his head, unimpressed. “you’re tellin’ me i gotta pay for all this?”

you quickly catch on to the joke, albeit the very bad joke, and chuckle warmly, like marshmallows melting over hot chocolate.

“unfortunately, yeah,” you nod, clicking your tongue. “good thing they’re worth the price.” you gesture to his newly purchased books, one of which was the christie novel you recommended.

“guess so,” leon agrees with faux reluctance, digging a leather wallet from his back pocket and pulling out a debit card that’d definitely seen better days.

after his transaction went through and you slid his bagged books over along with a receipt, leon found himself lingering by the counter, not yet wanting to leave. despite only knowing you for thirty minutes max— he doesn’t even know your name yet —he wasn’t ready to leave. to possibly say goodbye forever.

“listen—“ he glanced at your name tag, spoke it aloud before his eyes found your face. “this isn’t something i’d usually do, and i know we barely know each other, but…”

leon pauses, runs the tip of his tongue over his bottom lip. “i like you,” for someone who’s usually so confident on the field, he’s rather shy in the presence of someone so pretty.

“think i could get your number?” as soon as the question leaves his mouth, he feels the tips of his ears turn pink, quick to wave a hand. “you don’t have to—“

“i want to,” you butt in, eyes warm, welcoming. shimmering. filled with just the right about of domesticity he secretly longs for.

picking up a stray pen, you scrawl your number down and hand over a yellow sticky note.

“let me know it’s you—“ you trail off, realizing very suddenly that you don’t even know this man’s name.

“uh, leon,” he’s absolutely red in the ears now. “i’ll let you know,” he takes the slip of paper, fiddles with it. “i’ll text you?”

you nod, looking rather flushed yourself, but smiling all the while. “yeah. later tonight.”

phew, that worked out.

“alright, i’ll…” he picks his new purchase off the counter, backpedals one step. “see you ‘round.”

- Timmy is actually a smart kid, he’s able to figure out stuff rather quickly and is very quick on his feet, he just deals with mildly severe ADHD ^_^ (he just like me FR)

- Timmy couldn’t decide on a major and kept switching between them during his first 2 years of college

- Timmy’s room becomes more and more decorated with memorials from his adventures that could pass as stuff he got from the store

- Timmy’s closest also had to be expanded with how much stuff Timmy had from his adventures

- Timmys Time skooter used to be one of the only ways to time travel outside of Father Time (basically it was a secret item Timmy had that he only used for emergency’s)

- Timmy LOVES skateboarding and Rollerskating when he’s a teenager, he feels like he’s flying with his fairies.

- Timmy didn’t get his license until he was 18, as he crashed the car a few times at first.

- His most common wish is usually summoning toys or gadgets for Peri/poof to play with

- Timmy always lists Peri as his little brother in assignments that tell you to make a family tree

- Timmy was the only godkid allowed to dimension-hop

- Jimmy neutron and Timmy turner stay in touch as the years go by, staying close as they valued each others friendship greatly. (until one day Timmy stops messaging Jimmy when he turns 18? What’s that all about.)

I love both of your comics! I've also be listening to your podcast over the past couple of weeks. I just wanted to know what your characters' favorite books are and what books/manga might have inspired either the story or artstyle.

uhh lets see... I'm gonna be honest here, I'm not hugely literate these days, as in a don't read a lot of books or comics cuz working on two webcomics (three comics rn if we count Creaky in progress haha) and the podcast eats up most of my time, and I can't say that I've thought that much about what my characters like, in the sense they would probably like what I like haha, I know i usually have a more in depth answer for this. I think Maddie is the only one who would actively read books and manga. I think Rose would read a lot of poetry like frost and Dickinson. Avery reads dime store westerns and adventure novels. These are the ones I've thought about. John doesn't read but he likes horrors on tape. I also don't know much about manga at all, i've never really read any so unforch I can't give you an answer there but i did read a lot of comics, dunno if thats actually kinda the same thing. But i'll give you a run down of what i like and what art and stuff inspired my style so here we go.

I enjoy horror like Richard Matheson, Stephen King for the silly horror factor. I grew up reading stuff by Michael Crichton (Andromeda Strain, Sphere, Jurassic Park) and medical murder mysteries for some reason by Robin Cook (Coma, Night Shift, Outbreak.) I also really like YA, just anything really, quick and cozy reads about romance. NGL thats probably why I write cozy but dreadful horror. A weird combination of my interests ahah.

As far as art goes, I started drawing and writing in the late 80's and 90's, my dad was an artist and comic collector, we would go on trips to find things I was interested in before he got sick. Comics that inspired my art style: Tank Girl The Collection: Beautioned Up The Reckoner! (1995) specifically. Gen 13 comics in the 90's. James O'Barr's Crow comics and anthologies 1989. The MAXX by Sam Keith 1993. I also was HUGE into movies, I basically would rent 3 or 4 vhs tapes and just lose myself in them over the weekend, watching the same film 3 or 4 times. Seemingly Dark is a combination of my own life events (disappearing cross country and starting a new life one day at random, illness, death, depression, finding myself and my family etc) and things i read or saw that I coulnd't even pinpoint if I wanted too haha! Mil-Liminal is and offshoot of that but a way to explore my romantic life and gender identity. I havent actually listened to many podcasts or anything, the premise was inspired by a tumblr post actually, about how the people who work in liminal spaces arent really liminal themselves cuz they aren't passing through. And I was thinking, what if they WERE the liminal part of it. They dont feel it, cuz they are part of it. Plus I worked a night shift job off and on for about 11 years and that'll REALLY inspire you haha. And then just that and a combination of every movie I saw 25 years ago.

This was a terrible answer probably, but hopefully you got something out of that and hopefully theres folks who are as old as me and remember some of those things.

Front tables:

Pile of books: when sasha finds an interesting book that he is totally gonna read one day, it gets drop off on the table as he enters his room. it turns to a game of sorts, keeping it from toppling and seeing how high it can go. he manages to get high enough he can barely add more to the stack. then he realizes he played himself because he's the one who has to get them all down lol.

Pile of jewelry: the other thing that often gets dumped as soon as he is back in his room is jewelry. rings, bracelets, necklaces, hair jewelry, all sorts. yes, it spills off of the table often, and no, sasha doesn't always bother to pick it up. and then he has to untangle all that shit when he wants something. played himself x2.

Back tables:

Makeup stuff: maybe if the lighthouse had a BATHROOM he would put this there, put alas. all his various powders and liquids and brushes live inside a chaotically unorganized state that sasha can somehow always find exactly what he needs in it. there would also be a big mirror stored close by that he could sit in front of to do his face.

Wine. One glass. that's it. the team starts keeping a not so secret eye on it, both making sure it doesn't get empty and that sasha is not going through it at an alarming rate lol.

Bookshelves:

His first set of basic surgery tools: received as a gift when he became an official mourn watch member. buuuuut never really used. this is a tongue in cheek kind of keepsake; scalpels dull pretty quick, things break, there is no such thing as a "set" that will survive long lol. they live in a pretty black leather pouch with the MW symbol on it.

Potted plant from Arlathan: sasha isn't the nature sort, but he didn't have access to much of it for most of his life. in spite of the stuff that tries to kill you, he likes Arlathan; it's beautiful and peaceful (when the aforementioned killing is not happening), and great fun to run around exploring. he asked bellara for help because he didn't want to take anything he shouldn't or that would die in a pot. one night he gets drunk and decides its name is Vestibulocochlear because it's a very funny word to say. even moreso when you are sauced out of your mind. mostly he calls her Vesta.

Box of stuff: odds and ends useable for various arts and crafts activities. drawing, needlework, beading, a few bits of colored glass, lots of scraps and strings and mysterious things rolling around the bottom. likely does not at any time contain enough materials for a whole project of some sort, but it's not like he actually has time for that shit. having the box present lets there be a nice "one day" delusion going on.

Several vertebrae on a leather cord with decorative baubles: a gift, of sorts, from a long time lover and patron of the necropolis. she knew sasha since he was born and watched him grow up somewhat over the years too. their relationship was not quite family but something fond. when she died she donated various parts of her body to different things; sasha was one of few who she allowed to take something for private use. he picked 3 and turned it into a necklace. he never plans to wear it (it would be weird and heavy and clunky anyway.)

Walls:

A woven tapestry that reads Anything As Universal As Death Must Be A Blessing: this is the sasha version of the "hang in there" cat. motivational poster.

Four frames arranged in a small square formation: the frames hold somewhat rough but carefully done sketches of different bodily systems, unlabeled; skeletal, respiratory, heart, and brain. sasha drew them :) but he's a loser who never tells people that.

Hehe I'm so glad I got sent a few of these! I'm gonna have fun rambling about aus now! Lots of rambling. I'm not kidding. This one at least is uh- long. Oops.

As I said before, a lot of my AUs are Ethubs focused, but hopefully you guys don't mind that! 😅

Soooo, let's see, which one should I start with, hmmmmmm. Let's go with one I was talking about with a friend a lot a few weeks ago!

And that would be -

Assassin Creed AU 🗡️ Well- it's inspired by Assassin's Creed anyway. I am not well versed enough on the series lore to do anything that sticks to it too closely. I wanted to play around with ideas a bit anyway. But I started playing one of the games again a while ago and that's where the ideas came from.

Assassin AUs have been done before, yes. But this one is mine!

Etho is an assassin, somewhere in the 18th/19th century, and has been with the Assassin's Brotherhood for most of his life. He's very good at what he does. He's smart, quick, and stealthy. Like a ghost with a knife. You won't know he's there until his blade has found it's way into your throat.

The Brotherhood consists of various other Hermits, including; Doc - retired assassin now serving as the groups main medic Tango - his targets often go out with a bang. or with fire. Grian - death from above Cleo - master of poisons and deadly concoctions Impulse - weaponsmith, where you go for a new knife or gun Zedaph - creator of gadgets and nifty tools and Mumbo - the spymaster. Kinda. Not really. Far too squeamish for assassin work. So he handles information gathering, sorting out jobs and targets, etc

They work together to take out criminals and other bad people who are causing issues in the area. As well as probably aiming to solve some sort of ancient mystery like in the games. (Though I haven't figured that part out yet.)

The story is mostly focused on Etho, a lot of what I have is about his and Bdubs' relationship too, but there's other stuff as well. Rambling continues under the cut ~

Etho doesn't interact with civillians much. But then he meets Bdubs. Bdubs is not affiliated with the Brotherhood. He's a craftsman. He works with wood, leather, and sometimes metal, making tools and clothes mostly, but weaopns too, and selling them in his little shop. Etho goes there on a whim looking for quick repairs or a replacement.

Bdubs is a pretty ordinary guy just going about his life. He has no idea what's in store for him when he meets Etho that day.

Etho is- odd. Tall and mysterious, and dressed in strange clothes. Bdubs doesn't know what to make of him. But treats him like any other customer. He does what's asked of him, Etho pays well. And he finds himself with a regular visitor.

Etho isn't entirely sure why he keeps going back there. He knows other people with the same skillset that he could go to instead. But there's something about Bdubs... There's something drawing Etho to him in a way he's never really experienced before.

Gradually, they become friends. And with time, that friendship progresses. Etho slowly falls in love with Bdubs, and realises that he's so screwed. He's never been in love before. And these- these- emotions. Are not easy to deal with! He doesn't know how to handle Bdubs being so gentle with him, so kind and smiling so sweetly.

And. Yeah. Things develop. A very touch starved Etho craves the gentleness and kindness that Bdubs gives him so easily. Etho has friends, sure, but this is different. Someone detatched from the violence of his work. Someone willing to care for him and love him despite all that he is. It's like nothing he's ever experienced before.

Bdubs never expected to get tangled up with someone like Etho. Danger surrounds him. Etho could leave one day and just. Never come back. But behind all that. Behind the layers of Trained Killer. There's a sweet, slightly shy guy that Bdubs can't help but love.

It's not all plain sailing though. No no. There's drama and chaos too of course. The nature of Etho's work kind of requires it. One time Etho returns to base badly hurt, and in a state of 'I thought I was going to die and all I wanted was to see you again,' he's asking Doc, who's looking after him, for Bdubs. Another time, Bdubs gets captured by the bad guys and Etho and the other assassin's have to rescue him. There's heartbreak as events leave Etho thinking that Bdubs doesn't want to see him anymore. And the difficulty of tracking down an assassin who doesn't want to be found. Etho becomes over protective at times, which Bdubs isn't fond of. But panic ensues when that protectiveness leads to Etho hurting Bdubs accidentally. Bdubs doesn't know what to think of seeing Etho kill someone. Knowing it happens is one thing, actually seeing it happen is another.

There's ups and downs, and I want there to be some overarching mission that Etho and the rest of the Assassin's are working towards. But I don't know what that is yet. I need to brainstorm and play the games more I think.

However, meanwhile, in the present day. Another young man, funnily enough also known as 'Etho', has somehow gotten himself roped into an investigation being done on his ansestor. A- distant cousin. Or something. He thinks. But the guy was an assassin. Which is cool. Fancy technology he'd never heard of allows him to relive the 'genetic memories' of the assassin. See what he experienced and learn about his life. About the things he did, the people he knew, and the events he was a part of. Hoping it'll help them find answers to something that's going on now.

This Etho, nerdy computer science graduate Etho, is very confused but overall rather fascinated by it all. Though he realises quickly there's a lot more at stake here than facts and figures about centuries old history. He learns a lot about his assassin ancestor and the life he lived. Maybe... Maybe too much. He's not sure that he wanted to know about the more- private parts of the guys life. mat: a real full size electric keyboard. no space in his place though

kaz: he wants to find a pair of used vintage platform demonias in exactly his size for 30$ max at a thrift store. never gonna happen man

2. If [x] could wear any fashion imaginable, how would they choose to dress?

mat: ohhhh he would have had so much fun being scene as a teen if he was allowed to and not scared of being looked at. today, he'd definitely be goth. (you can kind of tell where along a vague timeline of them dating i'm drawing something based on mat's hair + fashion, bc he starts growing it out and lets himself put more edgy stuff he likes into his style)(ohhh i should draw fully gothed up matsuo....)

kaz: just like he does now! maybe with a couple more expensive pieces thrown in but he's not big on that for a lot of reasons

3. Is [x] sentimental about certain possessions?

mat: YES. he has a thing about owning things that makes it so he doesn't keep a lot, but the exception is anything even kind of like a gift. it's good for him to have physical reminders that someone gives a shit about him, he likes it

kaz: yes and no. so like, if everything he had caught on fire and he had nothing anymore, he earnestly wouldn't be bothered. but he also holds on to a lot of random shit and enjoys collecting things. he likes things, i guess he's just not overly attached to any of them

4. Does [x] get along with animals, in general? Do specific animals prefer them? Do some animals dislike them instantly?

mat: he's fine with them but he doesn't really "get" pets. he is vaguely nervous about interacting with animals bc he knows he doesn't know fuckall about their body language and might make them mad

kaz: kaz likes cats, he's pretty good with them. he has no interest in being the sole/main owner of one though, he feels like he would not be on top of taking care of it at all (he's not wrong)

5. Does [x] engage in traditionally romantic behaviours?

mat: he makes mixtapes/playlists, he has tried like 12 times to write a song for kaz but it's too embarrassing to finish, he borrows kaz's clothes just to hang out in em when he's not around, he saves the dill pickle spear for him even though he kind of wants it

kaz: PDA machine, sends mat photos of things that make him think of him during his day, cooks for him, always tryna surprise him with treats, hyping him up forever

6. Is [x] at peace with who they are? What would they change?

mat: basically. he wants to totally reckon with his childhood and all the shit he missed out on. he'd like to be less anxious. he's kind of settling into his real self though, however slowly

kaz: nope. he would change whatever thing lives at the center of him that makes him evil

7. What does [x] like most about themselves?

mat: he's kinda proud of how quick he picks up tech shit, it makes him feel smart

I really appreciate how thorough your answers are and providing the links for the specific accents and slang. I feel like that will help me out a lot! I tried to do as much research as I could before I started writing, but there's only so far you can go when you don't know exactly what you're looking for in the first place.

I think Price was the only one that I couldn't exactly find out where he was supposed to be from and what that accent is supposed to be like. I really like the way he sounds in the games, but I might give Scouse!Price a try in one of my oneshots and see how that turns out. I really enjoy writing for things that are underrepresented in fandom so this might turn into my new favorite thing :) (I don't really follow any behind the scenes stuff or the actors themselves but my favorite video I ever came across was the one where Barry was showing off the 'coke and a water' he got after asking for a coconut water)

And I guess with Gaz it's not that his accent isn't as noticeable, so maybe pronounced wasn't quite the right word. I guess I'm just more familiar with the sound of a London accent. I feel like that's the stereotypical 'British' accent that is represented over here in the States, so it feels a little more basic? less embellished? not as hard to understand? Idk I feel like I'm still not quite finding the right word for it. I guess I'm more worried about using the right slang for him whereas with the rest of them it's finding the right slang AND figuring out the right way to write out the accent itself like you explained with the manc 'ya' and 'meh'

But anyways- Thank you again! I'm going to be doing a deep dive into all the links and hopefully come out on the other side a little more confident in my writing :)

i just had a thought, i know my darling @syoddeye is feeling a little under the weather at the moment BUT they have some fantastic music recs if you're looking for general vibes that might fit the characters. i fully recommend listening to the playlist they put together for their fic "For the Record", it's good stuff.

most non-uk people are more familiar with london/southern england/home counties/RP accents as that's what you see the most of in british media (booo!) so it makes sense that (for you) gaz's accent is the "default". don't worry about phrasing, i know what you mean and i'm not offended. the only time i get my hackles up is when people take the mick when it comes to regional/working class accents OR when they start up with the whole "scouse/brummie/northern accents are horrible" bullshit.

i'm trying to think of the best way i can help when it comes to solidifying gaz's slang/speech patterns but i'm drawing a bit of a blank. if there's a bit of gaz's dialogue that you're not sure sounds right i can give it a scan for you.

oh and some quick tips for making sure your british characters (specifically english) sound authentic:

it's shops, not store

traffic lights, not stop light

stop sign, not yield sign

boot (of a car), not trunk

bonnet (of a car), not hood

windscreen, not windshield

indicator, not blinker or turn signal

pavement, not sidewalk

road, not pavement

tarmac, not asphalt

bag, not purse

purse (for feminine characters), not wallet or coin purse

wallet (for masculine characters), not billfold

£50 notes are pink (and usually refused in most shops because they're fairly rare when it comes to circulation), £20s are purple, £10s are orange/yellow, £5s are blue

twenty quid note, tenner and fiver are all used commonly when referring to money (i haven't heard of a colloquial term for a £50 because i never have any 😅)

when writing out money write it as £1.20/£5.99 - not £1.20p/£5.99p unless it's less than a pound

when writing out money that's under a pound write it as 99p/20p not £0.99/£0.20

we use a blend of imperial and metric measurements just to be confusing

humans get weighed in stones and lbs AND kgs. height (in humans) gets measured as both feet and inches AND metres and centimetres

distances travelled are measured in miles not kilometres

distances measured can be in metres, feet, inches, centimetres, millimetres

volume can and will be measured in pints, gallons, litres and millilitres

about my art:

my art style is pretty straightforward for the most part. i enjoy making cute, simplistic drawings of bright, fun subjects, or using that style of images to create collages with more serious undertones. i also like to experiment a bit with more abstract, sometimes "geometrical" style ideas. i don't have a very strong spatial mind, so all my work falls far away from realism. i've used this to my advantage, working to make more basic shapes, lines, & colors into expressive doodles and even some more complex drawings.

Back To School Shopping List for A College Freshman Art Student

Hi guys I went to RISD a few years back but I do remember looking up this question. if you're not going to college just yet but are interested in art, it could be super useful to get comfortable using the tools/mediums below. even though i know most teachers give a materials list the first day, i needed to be prepared way ahead of time because of my anxiety. in my case, i was told id get a list in person, but walking in with an empty bag just felt wrong to me lol??? i ended up bringing a couple things, but missed a few vital essentials so here's a list of everything that i can think of. read to the end for my wagon epiphany that i think all art students should adopt (if they havent already)

-a notebook or planner (lined). some professors will hit you with extremely important info right away and wont always tell you to write down what they're saying but 90% of the time its important stuff you dont wanna miss

-a sketchbook. this can help if they throw a quick exercise at you and you have to write/draw something quickly. i blanked and didnt bring a sketchbook from home (because i was told id need to get certain types according to the teacher's specifications) but looking back idk why i didnt?? first days are hectic. actually the first week lol. anyways there were single sheets offered but honestly having your own right off the bat helps for organizational purposes, saves time, and IF YOU'RE LIKE ME, prevents the need to get up in front of everyone

-writing utensils. I'd recommend a nice pen and a set of drawing pencils (doesn't have to be anything crazy cause your teacher will most likely request that you buy more advanced/specific tools later on)

-headphones. every teacher is different, but usually art students will be given little tasks to work on during their first day in class at college. I was not clever enough to remember to pack my headphones, and the silence in a room full of focused art students can be especially unnerving when you're nervous. Hearing a student's questionable music taste can be equally unnerving, so make sure to pack those.

-snacks/drinks. this is kind of a branch off of the last one, cause again it can get sooooo quiet in these classrooms/studios. Pack snacks to prevent belly grumbles. I have heard it happen to many people in my classes and i am a victim as well. stay ready

-sunglasses. seems trivial but super important because you'll probably be walking around outside a lot your first day. this is the typical college commute, up down and around the streets.

-MONEY. I AM GOING TO PUT THIS IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE THIS WAS BY FAR MY BIGGEST MISTAKE LOL. UNFORTUNATELY, STAY STRAPPED WITH CASH OR CARD BCUZ! SOME OF THOSE ART SCHOOL PROFESSORS ARE A LIL BOUJEE AND WILL SEND U RIGHT TO THE CAMPUS ART STORE DAY ONE. It was very overwhelming for me, and some might think its common sense but idk my entire school career you always get some time after school to buy that stuff. they really sent us shopping ten minutes into class so be aware or look broke like i did.

Other than that, all the stuff you'll have to potentially purchase that day will be specified by the teacher. If you're worried about getting the wrong thing, don't be. The students get to go together and the teacher gives very specific details about the products to buy, which the campus store workers are well aware of. Off the top of my head, i remember being sent to get materials for a few different classes throughout the day. I'll list them here without the brand specifics (1. cause i dont know and 2. cause it may not match what your teacher will want anyway) just to give you a general idea.

-large ruler, metal, 1 yard (3 ft)

-clear plastic t-shaped ruler for drawing

-sketchbooks, drawing pads (of all sizes)

-a large portfolio (looks like a gigantic black totebag for big art papers)

-sewing kit

-string

-muslin fabric

-ink pens

-drawing pencils, different sizes

-drawing charcoal

-white paper drawing blender, a good eraser

-a toolbox for the drawing materials

-gouache paint

-brushes, pallets

-oil paint crayons

-a tool box

-ink pens like harry potter

That's pretty much it. If you'd like to grab some of these things before hand it should be fine, but for the most part id stick to waiting just to be safe.

Also a side note: I was a commuter so i could run home and grab my materials collected over my entire life but not every student is this lucky and some of their homes are thousands of miles away. if ur a traveling bird like them, it could be very VERY useful to pack some cool materials and tools like idk holographic paper or a jar of crystals because CAMPUS ART STORES ARE VERY EXPENSIVE!!!!

Also....... i know it sounds a little ridiculous but there were many many times i wished i had bought a wagon to transport things around campus. imagine me with a like 4ft portfolio bag the size of my body, a pencil toolbox, another toolbox for actual tools, my backpack, any projects i may have brought, a coffee if i am holding one??? and god forbid its a rainy day and i needed my umbrella lol.. it looks & feels difficult anyway trying to lug all the stuff art school requires.. so thats just some food for thought. Imagine a cute pink wagon?!??

tip for art and craft supplies!:

If you live near a city it's worth searching to see if there's a used/recycle art supply shop or exchange near you. Some of them even sell online!

A few random examples with a quick Internet search:

Try searching creative reuse, or creative recycle centers. You can find alllll sorts of stuff. (I have a classmate in my painting class who decided to make a mini-community "art supply" library in front of her house. She stocks it herself for people to have free art supplies.)

There are dedicated places for cheap hobby supplies!

More generally, Facebook buy nothing/other community free groups (or craigslist) are abundant in options and friendly people. Goodwill also has a huge online website, & eBay has loads of used lots of supplies.

More advice:

With new "fine art" supplies (drawing, painting, etc) it's important to know that almost everything at big box craft stores (Michaels, joann's, hobby lobby, AC Moore, etc) is listed at or near full MRSP and is going to be wildly overpriced in comparison to ordering from an actual art supply store (Dick Blick's, Jerry's Artarama, Cheap Joe's, Artist & Craftsmen Supply, etc).

For example, the high quality artist (professional) grade watercolor brand Daniel Smith Introductory set is listed at $66.99 at Michael's. The same exact set is $37.59 right now at Blick's. This is a "fancy" brand, but this also applies to craft/student grade (and less high quality) brands. The 24 color Koi pocket field sketch box is $42.99 at Michaels. But at Blick's, it's $25.20. (these might still be out of budget, but like, just illustrating the point that big box craft stores hugely overprice shit.)

If you're basing the prices of art supplies based on what you see inside your local Michael's, keep in mind that that's often almost double the price it might be elsewhere at full price. The 20-30% off coupon might have you still paying more than elsewhere for a brand new product! And you'll be able to find even cheaper used/recycled!

The other thing to do with fine art supplies is to read artist reviews for recommended student/academic grade lines, and to find out what *kinds* of supplies to invest in. Ask artists for advice!

For example, you don't want to try to paint watercolor on printer paper. (watercolor paper can be used as a mixed media paper, but it won't handle all media equally.) Things like: good watercolor paper is more important than the most expensive watercolor paint. Cheap drawing paper will always be better to draw on than printer paper. Lots of student grade oil paints are excellent. Some art store generic brands are also really good. (Iirc Plaza brand is produced by the more expensive Jack Richeson company). Knowing that helps you find good stuff used.

Oh also: art supplies don't need to look "neat and unbroken" to be perfectly usable. Pastels broken? So what? You should be breaking them and sanding them when you use them. People break them on purpose for detail work and smaller sizes all the time. Pastel dust mixed up the colors? Put them in rice and shake em to help clean their colors. Or use sandpaper to sand off the outsides. Pencils or charcoal broken? Doesn't matter because if you'd bought them new, you'd still be taking a knife to the pencil wood to sharpen and shave them anyways. The charcoal would still be cut or sanded. Watercolors or gouache dried out? If it's in pans, spray them down with water or put drops of water on top. You may need to do it for several days to get them easy to work with again. If it dried out in a tube use an exacto to slice open the middle of the tube and use it like a pan. Oil paints dry? Add more linseed oil.

Once you know what kinds of materials you need for a particular media, and what to look for, you can start finding cheap but quality materials more easily. My latest cheap and good find was this Maruman drawing sketchbook from DAISO for $3.25. I'm using it for graphite and pencil sketching — each page has a side with "tooth" that will take the charcoal nicely, and a smooth back side for taking notes or doing smoother drawings with less layering. The paper has handled all my erasing has a nice weight, and can even take ink and a single light wash of watercolor (like watercolor pencil) without any bleed.

Every fun post on here that encourages people to have hobbies/be creative always gets an avalanche of "Some people are poor Karen" type reactions and respectfully, you're all super annoying. I've never lived above the poverty line and this is a list of hobbies I have that were cheap or entirely free:

Read books: Go to the library, lend a book from a friend

knitting, crochet, embroidery: Get some needles from the bargan store and ask around, people have leftovers from projects they'll happily give you. Thrift stores also often carry leftover fabric and other supplies. And talk about your hobby loud enough and an old lady will show up and gift you their whole collection, because there are way more old ladies with a closet full of wool than there are grandchildren who want to take up the hobby.

Origami/paper crafts: get some scrap paper and scissors, watch a youtube tutorial

walking: put on shoes open door

pilates/yoga/etc: get a mat or just use your carpet, watch a youtube tutorial

Houseplants: look online for people that swap plant cuttings. There are always people giving out stuff for free to get you started. If you're nice enough you'll probably get extra

gardening: You're gonna need some space for this one of course but you can just play around with seeds and cuttings from your grocery vegetables.

aquarium keeping is a bit of an obscure one but I got most of my stuff second hand for cheap or free and now I have a few thousand euro worth of material and plants.

drawing/art: You get very far just playing with bargan store materials. I did my entire art degree with mostly those.

writing: Rotate a cow in your head for free

cooking: again one you can make very expensive, but there are many budget recipes online for free. Look for African or Asian shops to get good rice and cheap spices.

Join a non-profit: Cities will have creative organisations who let you use woodworking machines or screen presses or laser cutters or 3D printers etc etc etc for a small fee. Some libraries also lend out materials.

candle making: You need some molds (cheap), wick, two old cooking pots for au bain marie melting and a ton of scrap candles, ask people to keep them aside for you.

a herbarium, flower pressing: Leaves are free, wildflowers too, ask if you can take from peoples gardens.

puzzles: thrift stores, your grandma probably

Citizen science: look for projects in your area or get the iNaturalist app

And lastly and most importantly: Share! Share your supllies, share your knowledge. Surround yourself with other creative people and before you know it someone will give you a pot of homemade jam and when you want to paint your kabinet someone will have leftover paint in just the right color and you can give them a homemade candle in return and everyone is having fun and building skills and friendships and not a cent is exchanged. We have always lived like this, it's what humans are build to do.

And all of it sure beats sitting behind a computer going "No stranger, I refuse to let myself have a good time."

Anyway I'm logging off bc I'm making some badges for a friend who cooked for me and then I'm going to fix some holes in everyones clothes.

I had planned to get groceries on Thursday originally but mom said she was already going to Seeley to pick up stuff from the store so I figured I'd save her a trip and go with her today. We also went later than I wanted but I easily let go of that because I'm trying to get used to things not going perfectly. As long as I was taken to get groceries, thats what mattered. Mom didn't talk about politics or Jesus at all which was a rare treat. She also agreed to follow me in the store with a calculator to add up an estimate of my bill as I went which helped me keep it around the $250 range successfully. This Tristan guy was my bag person and I asked him if he was the same Tristan I went to school with. I knew he was but he didn't recognize me and implied I looked much younger than 28. After that we went the liquor and weed stores and mom bought me some popcorn chicken from the ice cream place which I haven't had in maybe a decade.

I had a hard time doing work today because my eyes hurt since I woke up and I REALLY didn't wanna do it but I keep motivating myself by reminding myself of who I want to be. I take pride in being an artist who can buckle down and get to work and do a good job almost every time. Usually after I start, it's not so bad anymore anyways. I did put today's request off until tomorrow though so TK and I could get in VR and paint together for the first time. She's not an artist at all and thought it would be fun if I guided her a bit.

It went well, she seemed to have a lot of fun and showed a lot of progression in 3 hours. Thats always to be expected when someone tries something new and means it. She actually made something kinda deep while life drawing my horse and it had me feeling a bit.

I said it reminds me of myself running through the emotional chaos in my life chasing this magical fairy thats not even real. WX said it feels exactly like when he's heard me talk about my struggles and what it means to be running towards something I know I want even if I don't know what it is. And this is indeed how I feel.

Also WX was singing out loud a lot and it got pretty annoying just because I don't like hearing people sing out loud randomly, especially to music I don't know.

DS also joined me to paint after a break from VR. She drew Draculaura and I sketched her avatar real quick. I mostly watched her because my eyes hurt and I just did not want to paint anymore.

I am so so so so tired in general. I have been for a long time. Or empty in some way. I don't know. But as decrepit as my heart might be, I try so hard to be a good friend and a beacon to those around me. I just don't think I do a very good job sometimes. I think deep down most people can tell that I'm not all there and not really connecting to them. It feels isolating and scary because I want so badly to connect but I almost never can and I've been trying so hard for so long. The only thing that keeps me going is the drive to keep chasing this thing I know I want even if I don't know how to foster it effectively yet. I know like everything I refuse to give up on, it will click eventually. I just hope it clicks in time because it feels like I have a time limit.

I keep detecting that I need my space, I need more of that time to be myself by myself. But I'm scared of it too. Maybe Im scared it won't work and I'll have wasted time or that it's not even the real problem. It also feels kinda bad to neglect anyone in order to do my own thing. I do have a lot of time where no one is requesting my company but I'm always treating myself like I have to be ready at a moment's notice just in case someone important reaches out. I gotta start saying no more, respectfully. Like yes I really do want to hang out but I need some time for myself, so no.

So for a long time I was super blessed that my main library was V E R Y involved in the community and had a very dedicated + involved group of teens/young adults; our graphic novel section was several shelves deep, and had a really huge array of stuff! They were also really dedicated to keeping up with some new series (they were super quick to get the manga versions of classics like Les Mis when they started publishing those, for example), and they were also generally keeping up with a couple series' new releases (like Case Closed; they'd usually be about 4ish volumes behind where Barnes & Noble was, which I think is pretty good!!). I also visited a lot of libraries in surrounding areas, and the difference was...stark.

This is a giant train of thought, so if I miss anything I'll just reblog with added points:

One of my favorite parts of my Usual Library was the graphic novels/teen section was very accessible. It was on the first floor, directly in front of the main desk. Lots of other libraries opted to hide their graphic novel sections in obscure places, and I was a shy teen; having to ask where the manga was would make me Look Bad to the librarians, so I really appreciated having them in a very Easily Spottable place, or having a map of where to look.

They also made the graphic novel section a dedicated hang out spot, sometimes for events, but usually they have a Wii/WiiU so you can check out games and play. They also have a cafe at the bottom, so kids were encouraged to take their time and play/read/eat and enjoy the space. I realize their funding is probably pretty great compared to a lot of other places, but really, just allowing space to Have Fun and Exist made it so much nicer to be in. They also always had mini pencils and scrap paper to sketch on/use to make requests, and a new piece of butcher paper on a bulletin every week or so with a new drawing prompt!

Back to the collection itself: as big as it is, there was really little guidance when starting something new. The exploration aspect was fun, but I would have appreciated those little "if you like [genre], try this!" Cards like book stores have. Just something for the socially awkward to engage with when the 1 librarian who knows what manga or comics even is isn't there, yknow? Especially when it came to, like....comics. that section still intimidates me bc I have NO clue where I'd even start.

isn't a breach of privacy to say like "if you want recommendations, ask for X"? on the shelves??? Being able to ask for someone by name as a teen would've made me feel Prepared to go up to the counter instead of lurking. Also, once I turned 12, I had 0 clue who was involved in what sections. At the children's section, they're so good about connecting you with the right staff, but YA and up, not so much.

I personally wanted more kids' classics as graphic novels. I just about lost my shit with excitement when I found Nancy Drew in comic book/manga form, and I was 14. I wanted a book snack: something familiar that was quick to read but a new story. These would sometimes get moved from children's section to YA or just mixed in with the regular books, so they could be hard to find.

I guess most of this boils down to having little notes/info spreads about the collection, having the usual suggestion box, and providing information of where to go/who to talk to specifically to remove guesswork of "dear God I really hope the 1 librarian who doesn't think I'm a loser is working today...."/"who is that person???"

Okay I realize this is a bit of a reach, and like, of course I'm going to take all this with a grain of salt because of course a library collection is highly dependent on the community using it, but--BUT!!! I have 9k followers and I might as well use that so...

Like, for example, I had some teens at my library that were looking at our manga collection, hoping to start a new series, but the problem was, pretty much all of our "Volume 1's" of any series were all checked out! I offered to put whatever title they wanted on hold so that they could pick it up in a couple days, but they weren't interested, which honestly is reasonable because why wait several days for a series you're not even sure you'd like yet? Plot: Looking for inspiration for some new tattoos, Bucky visits his friend and crush Y/N, who owns the flower shop across the street from the tattoo parlour he works in. Pairing: tattooartist!Bucky Barnes x flowershopowner!Reader (AU) Notes: In my mind, tattooartist!Bucky looks like he does in Infinity War and Endgame, just with his arms covered in tattoos and some eyeliner, like when Sebastian was T*mmy Lee. Also I don’t have a specific song rec for this oneshot, but I listened to Wildest Dreams by Taylor Swift a lot as I was writing this, so I suggest you listen to that, hahaha. Also thanks to @buckysbarnes​ who gave me the idea to give Bucky a blastover tattoo. Warnings: Mentions needles and getting tattooed if you dislike that kinda thing. 

The bells above the door to the flower shop jingle, and Y/N looks up from the bouquet she’s arranging. “Hey, Bucky.” She smiles, seeing her friend walking through the door. 

“Hey, doll.” He responds. She tries to hide her face so he can’t see her blushing at the fact he called her doll. After all, he calls most people doll. She’s convinced that for Bucky, doll is simply a term of endearment. But sometimes, she likes to pretend it’s just for her. Ever since Bucky, with both his arms, hands (and as she later found out, most of his thighs), covered in tattoos, arrived in town and started working in the tattoo shop across the street, Y/N has found herself falling head over heels in love with him. Her crush on him is not helped by his propensity to walk over to her flower store to visit her multiple times each week, sometimes bringing a snack or drink for them both, ready to tell her about the new art pieces he’s working on and the weird and wonderful things people want to get tattooed. He visits her so many times a week that she’s found herself missing his visits and feeling upset when he doesn’t appear. “That looks nice.” Bucky gestures to the assortment of flowers that she’s arranging. 

“Thanks. It’s for an anniversary, so I want to make sure it looks extra perfect. I’ll be with you in just a sec.” She replies, cutting some ribbon. 

“I don’t think you need to worry about that. I don’t know much about flowers, but it looks great.” His words make Y/N stop in her tracks, and she mumbles a quick thank you. As she finishes the bouquet, Bucky glances around the shop. Various colours and varieties of flowers surround him, each smelling wonderful. Soft music plays from the radio, and Y/N hums along to it as she ties the ribbon around the bouquet. Bucky smiles. Sometimes he wishes he had a shop like this or that he could just spend more time in Y/N’s. The atmosphere is calming, and it’s really pretty inside. It makes a change from the shop he works in. Of course, he loves his job as a tattoo artist and the way his art can be on someone’s body permanently. And after a while, the sound of the needles became second nature to him...but whenever he comes to Y/N’s shop, smells the flowers and hears the calmness in the air...he realises that sometimes he likes spending time here much more than he does being at the shop. And of course, the cute shop owner Y/N helps too. Even though he’s too much of a pussy to admit his feelings for her.

“There we go, all sorted.” Y/N announces, taking the bouquet through the back so it can be picked up later. “Now, Bucky, what can I do for you?” 

“Well, I have a favour to ask you.” Y/N’s eyebrows raise. Knowing Bucky, this could mean anything from asking her to make a bouquet for an ex-girlfriend to just asking her what a specific flower is called. “I want to branch out with my art, and I’m thinking of incorporating some more flowers into my tattoo designs. Obviously, there’s roses and daisies and stuff...but I want to try and add less popular flowers as time goes on. So, would it be okay if I got some of your flowers to practice drawing?” He takes out his wallet, holding it in his tattooed hands. “I’ll pay for every single one of them, don’t worry.” Bucky continues, looking at her hopefully. Y/N’s eyes scan over the tattoos covering his arms. She still remembers when Bucky told her about some of his tattoos.

“So on this arm...” He gestures to his left arm. “I went for more of a blast over kind of thing. It’s a coverup, but not really. You can still see the original tattoo underneath.” Y/N nods along. To be honest, she’s too busy staring at Bucky’s muscles and the tattoos covering them to fully pay attention to what Bucky is saying. 

“Why did you decide to not cover the whole thing?”

“Well, we all make mistakes, and I definitely did with my first few tattoos. But tattoos and mistakes are a part of you, and because you can still see the original tattoo underneath, I feel like I can still see and accept my mistakes...cause they made something new.” He grins, and she smiles. It’s so obvious how much Bucky loves his job. It’s really nice to see his face light up every time he talks about his tattoos.

“Oooh, look at you, being all philosophical. That’s unlike you.” She giggles.

“Hey!” Bucky throws some popcorn at her. “Besides, I look totally badass, right?!” He grins, flexing his left arm. And there’s the Bucky she remembers.

“Hmm, I don’t know. I’m not so sure about the whole badass thing.”

She was lying. Of course he looked like a badass. He always does. A very hot badass. She swears that’s the day she realised she was in love with Bucky Barnes. One day, she’d like to ask him about each of his tattoos and what they mean. But part of her is okay with not knowing. It makes him seem more mysterious, which to her, makes him look more attractive. Bucky is still looking at her expectantly, and she blushes.

“Sure. You can use my flowers. Take as many as you’d like.” She nods. Bucky grins. Of course, he knows he could just google pictures of the flowers, but it’s different than seeing them up close. And it gives him an excuse to see Y/N, which is always a plus.

“You’re a star.” Y/N grins and gestures to the rows of flowers on the walls of her shop, some reaching as high as the ceiling. 

“Right. Where do you want to start?” Bucky looks like a fish out of water as he looks over at all the flowers in the store. Y/N giggles. “I’ll give you some simple ones to start off with. Here’s a daisy. They mean innocence and purity.” She informs him, passing one over.

“So the complete opposite of me.” Bucky winks, gesturing to himself. Y/N shakes her head.

“Nah, I don’t think you’re that bad.” She picks out some more flowers, informing Bucky of the meaning of each. After he’s gained quite a lot of flowers, Y/N sends him on his way. She leans against the door and grins as the door closes behind him. She gets a chance to see Bucky more and use her knowledge of flowers for good. 

What more could a girl ask for?

As the weeks go on, Bucky continues to return to Y/N’s shop for more flowers, brandishing his sketchbooks and showing her all of the flowers he drew and the tattoo designs to go along with them. He’s also written the names and meanings of each beside them. “Have you started tattooing some of your designs yet?” She asks one day as she picks out a tulip to go with the growing bundle. 

“Some.” Bucky muses, sitting at the counter, drawing some more designs in his sketchbook. “Unfortunately, most of the big burly guys I tattooed recently weren’t too enthused about having a little tulip or a daisy tattooed on them. But, all the flowers do make my workstation smell and look nice, though, so thanks for that. Steve and Sam keep commenting on it. They say you’re very talented with bouquets.” Y/N rolls her eyes. 

“Well, that’s stupid. Not the talent thing. Tell them I say thanks. I just mean there’s nothing wrong with having a flower tattoo. Flowers have so many meanings. Look.” She pulls out a yellow carnation. “A yellow carnation means you’re disappointed in someone. And purple anemones mean protection from ill wishes. I mean...that’s so cool!” She exclaims. Bucky laughs, and she blushes furiously. Now he probably thinks she’s a weirdo. Most people do anyway, so she wouldn’t be surprised if Bucky does too. Even though it would break her heart.

“I love how invested you are in this stuff.” Bucky tells her. Y/N sits beside him, placing the flowers on the counter beside them.

“Well, it’s my job.” She sighs. “And it’s interesting too, at least...to me it is.. I don’t know, I just think having a tattoo of a flower that’s meant to protect you from evil is quite cool and rockstar like. I’d love one like that. But I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong. I’m not exactly cool to most people.”

“What? Are you kidding?! Of course you are! I don’t know anyone else who knows as much about flowers and their specific meanings, including by colour as you do. I think you’re pretty cool.” Bucky grins. Her heart rate rises, and heat spreads throughout her body, settling on her cheeks. Bucky thinks she’s cool? The weird girl obsessed with flowers is cool?

“Well, you’re probably the first and only one to say that about me...but thanks.” She smiles.

“And besides, I told the ones I did tattoo with flowers all about you, your shop and how good you are, so if you get more visitors, you have me to thank.” She giggles.

“Thanks, Bucky.” The two friends sit in silence for a while, both looking at each other. Both think about how cute the other is and wonder if they feel the same about them. 

“Were you serious, by the way?” Bucky asks suddenly. Y/N frowns. “About a tattoo! If you have something in mind, I’d be happy to sketch some designs, you can tell me what you think, and then we could see about fitting you in for an appointment for me to tattoo you. If you want, of course.”

“Well, I’d love one, especially from you, but I pricked my finger on a rose the other day, and it really hurt, so I’m not sure if I can handle the pain.” 

“Don’t worry! Tattoos don’t hurt that much.”

“Easy for you to say, you have lots of them!” Bucky chuckles.

“That’s true. But seriously, they don’t hurt as badly as you think. I was shitting myself before my first one, but it was a breeze. And besides...” He takes her hand reassuringly, intertwining his tattooed fingers with hers. “I’ll be right there with you during it. I promise I’ll be gentle.” Y/N swears that her heart is beating so hard it feels like it’s about to break out of her chest. A silence falls over the pair again. She looks over at Bucky, his blue eyes sparkling in the light and his long brunette hair falling in his eyes ever so slightly. She has to stop herself from brushing the hair out of his eyes, leaning in closer and kissing his lips. His lips, so chapped from the number of times he’s bitten them as he works on a new sketch. She’s sure that Bucky probably has no idea that she knows he does that. Just as Bucky’s sure that she has no idea that she sometimes dances to herself in the shop as she’s creating bouquets. It’s pretty cute, actually. The scent of Y/N’s perfume enters Bucky’s nostrils. He chuckles softly. Of course, she smells like daisies. Bucky remembers Y/N telling him that daisies mean innocence and how little that fits him. But god, it fits Y/N so well. 

Every time he enters the shop, she’s there with a smile on her face and a look of wonder as she glances over him, trying to notice if he’s got any new tattoos in the time since she last saw him. Bucky swears she’s like sunshine personified. Sometimes, he can be a complete asshole, but Y/N wouldn’t hurt a fly. Bucky knows their pairing must look weird to others. To be honest, it’s weird to him too sometimes. After all, he’s covered in tattoos and wearing leather jackets all the time, whilst Y/N wears cute floral dresses and skirts. But despite how weird they might look together, and how other people would think they don’t match, both Bucky and Y/N know that doesn’t matter. After all, they’re close friends, and that’s all they care about. And although both of them wish they could be something more...neither of them has the guts to admit it.

Bucky’s phone suddenly buzzes on the table next to them. “Shit.” He mutters, reading the text. “I gotta go. My next appointment is at the shop.” He scoops up all his things and the flowers. “I’ll see you later. Thanks again for the flowers. And try and think of a tattoo idea!” He grins before gently pressing a kiss to her cheek and rushing out the door. Y/N watches him go, feeling her cheek start to burn where Bucky kissed her.

“Great.” She sighs. “How the hell am I supposed to be tattooed by Bucky when I can’t even tell him I’m in love with him?”

Two weeks later, Y/N sits in the waiting room of Bucky’s tattoo shop, waiting on him to finish with his current client so she can be tattooed. 

“Can you fill this out, please?” A voice asks, and she looks up to see a man handing her a clipboard. She takes it, and her eyes scan the form. "Don’t worry. It’s just to make sure you’re over 18, you understand what’s going to happen and that tattoos are permanent, so you don’t sue us or anything.” He jokes. She nods. She decides against asking him what would happen if she’s in love with her tattoo artist, and if it would ruin her tattoo if she admitted it to him as he’s tattooing her. She fills out the form, passing it back to the man. He looks over it and grins. “So, this is the famous Y/N whose flower arrangements have been all over my shop recently?” 

“Yup, that’s me.” She nods. The man holds out his hand, his arm almost as tattooed as Bucky’s.

“It’s nice to meet you. I’m Sam, Bucky’s boss and one of his friends. You know, Bucky has told us a lot about-”

“Ohhhkay, Sam! No need to terrify the girl even more before her first ink.” Another man cuts in, walking into the room. “I’m Steve. I’m the other artist here, and I do some piercings too. Ignore him.” He gestures to Sam. “Can I get you some water, juice or anything?” Steve and Sam decide not to tell her that Bucky told both of them that he would be the only one tattooing her, and that he would kill them both if they even touched her skin with the needle.

“No thanks, I’m good.” She shakes her head. Thankfully, Bucky emerges from a door a few moments later.

“Okay, so keep up with your aftercare, just like we said. If there are any issues, just give me a call, alright?” The girl nods. “Great. Let me ring you up.” As he heads over to the desk, Bucky notices Y/N sitting on the couch. “Hey! Just let me finish up here, and get my stuff disinfected, then I’ll be right with you.” Y/N nods, still considering making a break for it.

Of course, Bucky was very helpful and reassuring when he showed her around the shop and gave her tips to prepare...but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel any less anxious. After a while, Bucky calls her in. She sits down on the chair, and Bucky cleans her skin and applies the stencil. She decided to get a peony tattooed on her forearm with some leaves around it. “Okay, this is my needle and my tattoo gun. I know it might look scary and feel a bit weird at first, but I promise you it’ll be alright. If you want to stop at any moment, you just tell me, alright? We can go at your own pace.” Bucky’s reassurance makes her feel a little better. Despite how badass Bucky Barnes looks, she knows he’s just a giant softie at heart.

“Okay.” She nods. Bucky turns the needle on and starts the tattoo. Y/N gasps slightly as she feels the needle moving along her skin. 

“It’s weird, right?!” 

"Do you say this to every person you tattoo? Can’t imagine it goes down well with everyone.” She asks. Bucky chuckles.

“Eh, true. But it helps calm nerves, I think. If your artist thinks something is weird too, it’s nice to know, rather than internally freaking out about it and thinking you’re going crazy.” She nods, and he goes back to the tattoo. As he tattoos her, she notices his brunette hair has been pulled back into a man bun. She smiles. It suits him. He looks even better with it, if that’s even possible. “Remind me why you chose a peony again?” Bucky asks.

“Well, whenever people think of flowers that symbolise love, they always go for roses. Most people don’t know that peonies also symbolise love, just like roses. So people hardly ever choose peonies. And cause of that, I think they’re an underappreciated flower, especially when it comes to love, so I wanted to fix that with this tattoo. And besides, I prefer peonies anyway.”

“Me too. I love that reasoning, actually. It means your tattoo is extra unique. Just like you.” Bucky grins, and a familiar heat rises to her cheeks once again. She watches him as he continues to tattoo her. It’s nice. He’s seen her at work so many times, so it’s nice to see him at his work for once. “There we go! Two leaves are all done.” He announces, moving his head so she can see. 

“Already? It doesn’t feel like it’s been that quick.” 

“Well, you’re a trooper.” He tells her. “Okay, doll, are you okay to continue? Or do you want a break?” She tells him to continue, and he does. As he tattoos her, he continues to reassure her and make sure she’s okay, especially when he goes over a bone a few times, causing her to grimace slightly. And in what feels like no time at all, the tattoo is done. “There we go!” She peers down at her arm and gasps.

“Holy shit Bucky, this is incredible! Thank you so much!” 

“No problem. Okay, I’m just going to wrap this and get my aftercare sheet for you. You just sit there for a bit cause you’ve been getting tattooed for a while. I don’t want you collapsing or anything.” Bucky wraps her tattoo and sits with her a minute or two to make sure she’s okay. “I’m gonna grab a Coke. Do you want one?” She nods, and Bucky disappears out of the room. As he leaves the room, his sketchbook falls off his desk. Y/N hops down off the chair and picks it up. As she sits back down, she sees the sketchbook is open on a page. She sneaks a quick glance.

“Lily. Means purity and chastity. Aka, still not me.” She giggles at Bucky’s comment and continues to flip through the book looking at Bucky’s drawings of various flowers from her shop. But as she turns the page once more, she sees something else. It’s her. Standing in her shop, preparing a bouquet. Bucky’s drawn her. Her eyes widen. She turns the page. Another drawing of her, this time picking out flowers. Another of her dancing in the shop. There’s even small sketches of her face, her forearms, her fingers, some with and without tattoos added on. She can feel tears stinging in her eyes. Bucky’s done so much artwork of her. She looks beautiful. 

As she’s studying another piece of art, Bucky returns. “Okay, one Coke, and-” He stops, seeing what she’s looking at. “Oh. Um, you kinda weren’t meant to see those.” His cheeks turn scarlet.

“They’re really good, Bucky.” 

“Well, I needed to practice my people drawing skills, and cause I see you almost every day, I thought you were a perfect choice. I’m sorry, it’s weird, I shouldn’t have-” He stammers, clearly embarrassed.

“No! I love them. I do! I love them, and you.” Her eyes widen, and so do Bucky’s as they realise what she said.

“You...love me? Oh, thank god.” He breathes a sigh of relief. “Cause...I love you too.”

“You do?” Bucky nods, placing the things down on the desk beside his chair. 

“Can I kiss you?” She nods, and Bucky leans in close, pressing a kiss to her lips. His tattooed hand gently caresses her face, and her hand gently brushes through his hair. 

“Mmm...I should get tattooed by you more often if this is what happens after every appointment.” She whispers as they break apart.
