i hate all FNV mods that restore/add an option to convince Mr. House to broker a truce between himself and the Brotherhood of Steel because it's not just a symptom of a completionist, goopy goblin gamer brain that doesn't want to miss out on any of the CONTENT, but also because Mr. House's inflexibility on his desire to see the Brotherhood of Steel exterminated is such a significant character moment. Because it's a moment where this autocrat who views himself as purely rational, purely objective, and purely motivated by an altruistic desire to protect (what he thinks are) the best interests of humanity is forced to let his mask slip in front of the lackey on which he completely depends. He has zero reasonable rationale to want the Brotherhood destroyed and he knows it, he just hates them, and he hates them just because he thinks that they're just fucking lame. He, personally, finds the cultish medieval technoknight schtick obnoxious enough to justify total obliteration, and the fact that he will not back down on this is supposed to be revealing! It makes sense, too, if you understand how aesthetically driven his vision for the future of Vegas and humanity is and how badly a bunch of LARPers in power armor wandering around outside clashes with that aesthetic (he is, literally, a RETVRN guy, except he wants to "retvrn" to everybody looking like they're going to see the Rat Pack perform in concert). Mr. House's stubbornness on this issue is intentionally frustrating, especially if you're someone who up to this point may have found him otherwise agreeable! The Brotherhood of Steel is also something of a mirror, or a competitor even, to Mr. House's vision of himself as the sole worthy heir to the splendor of pre-war technology and control thereof, but that's actually far less important than the fact that he just hates their pussy

It's time to make this Mr. House into a Mr. Home

The thing I really like about the way Mr. House is written is the way he engages with and defies the evil overlord trope. House is on the hook for atrocities, but not in front of you, and never directed at you. There's never a moment where he goes from zero to 100 and unveils a Secret Evil Plan that has to be stopped from coming to fruition on principle, you never hit a point where you outlive your usefulness and he tries to dispose of you. The story doesn't make it that easy. The worst thing he asks you to do personally is wipe out the Brotherhood, and let's be real, the Brotherhood is begging for you to wipe out the Brotherhood. Those guys are assholes! If you decide to kill House, you'll always be the initiator, it'll always be a decision you actively have to account for. Not that it's necessarily a hard decision to have to account for, because House is an autocrat, a classist, a war profiteer who displaces people from their homes for the sake of his little walled garden. But let's be real here- you are a mailman. You are inherently going very, very far out of your way to put yourself in the position to pass judgement on him in this way, which in turn demands that you, the real life player, make a decision about the worldview and goals of the character that you're playing as. It's neat!

I am of the opinion that House would get bored very quickly with most romantic relationships he’s had, because most of them have been a standard sugar baby+sugar daddy ordeal (except for Jane, but I think that’s another post entirely) so he goes absolutely batshit for people who seemingly aren’t that interested in him at first. If you talk to him like he’s anybody else, instead of literally the richest guy on the globe, you’ve automatically caught his attention by virtue of discarding his social status. If you’re the type who enjoys House/Courier romance type of thing, I think that’s part of the dynamic. The courier has no idea what in the fuck Robert used to do before the apocalypse, and they likely won’t even care— I think this guy has a big thing for being treated as, dare I say it, normal. Not being given the default boot-licking levels of respect just because he’s rich. And I think he *loves* it when someone is even a tad bit mean to him.
