Character Analysis : Mammons Court Gallerian Marlon - Sinner of Greed

I am going to analyse the sinners of Evillious Chronicles. And I will start off with Gallerian Marlon, as he is my favorite character and the one I am most familiar with. I shall try to make one of all other characters, though that depends on motivation and if this is something people enjoy. ->Firstly, who is Gallerian? For everyone who does not know. Gallerian Marlon is the sinner of greed from the series Evillious Chronicles by mothy, but specifically from his own part Judgment of Corruption (joc). He was a judge who fell into corruption by making a contract with a demon in order to save a doll which he believes is his deceased daughter. His story also clashes together with The Muzzle of Nemesis (tmon), which I will be analyzing by its own in another post. The analyzation will be divided into two parts as it is very long: this one about the music video, and another about the novel. ->Music video analysis Something I am going to delve into for the sin songs is the perspective of who is singing the lyrics. What is interesting is that Judgment of Corruption is sung from Gallerians own words. It is his way of showing us his deluded reality. ->The song is divided into four major parts Chapter 1: The corrupt judge and his sullied court Chapter 2: The girl of a miniature garden and the vessel of sin Chapter 3: The beginning of a civil war and the end of his judgement Chapter 4: Master of the hellish yard and the final judgement I am going to go through them one by one to break down the story in full.

->Chapter 1 We are introduced to Gallerian, immediately we see him with his evil smile. Gallerian will continue to wear such a smile and demonize himself throughout the entire video. This can be because of two reasons. 1: He wants you to see him as evil to intimidate you. He can be your devil or saint depending if you pay him or not. 2: He sees himself that way. He knows he is wrong for his actions. However, it simply does not matter to him, as long as he can further his goals. Money is a very common theme in chapter 1. After all, it is what is getting him forward to his goal. Almost all lyrics have something money related in them, and he makes a sign with his hand which means “money” in japan. Hell, the mv even flashes "money" over and over during one part.

This is however to hide his main goal. He makes you believe money is all he cares about to hide what is actually striving his greed, to fulfill his wish of saving his daughter. To him, his greed is less about money and more about trading the lives of countless people for the person he himself cares about the most. A wish that might seem selfless, but is the most selfish of all. He wants to prove himself to be above the gods (hubris) by resurrecting the dead. And therefore, he soon will be punished by Nemesis (I’ll talk more about this in my tmon analysis).

->Chapter 2 The only times we see the good side of him in the mv is when he is with his daughter. Or more so the doll, but it is always shown to be Michelle since it is from his pov. His expression is more soft and he’s smiling. The instrumental also gets noticeably softer and slower too from the pompous and grand instrumental the rest of the song holds as they hug. He does not want her to know about his demonic side. However, his silhouette fades to black in front of her, a hint of his true self being there despite him trying to hide it from her.

Another thing here is the words that pop up in between the lyrics. In chapter 1, all words were about something court related, or straight up just “money”. In this chapter however, we see words more related to his actual motives. "Accident - Mother and daughter" "Untreatable" "Hope - Magic" "Ma - Friend" "Contract - Devil" "Collecting - Vessels" "Revival - Regeneration" "Necessary - Cost" It explains the story as a whole. His daughter and wife dies in an accident and he is made to believe he can save his daughter through magic by contracting with the devil and collecting the other vessels of sin.

That is not what is the most interesting about this thought. Ma is a very important character to Gallerian's story and motivations. She does not appear in the mv, but she still haunts it behind the scenes. It’s sad that her name is also tied with “friend”, as she is the person who ruined his life to begin with. And even after his death, she uses their ties to gain his fortune (more about this in novel analysis).

->Chapter 3 Gallerian is eventually exposed for his crimes after accepting bribes from a war criminal. He is now going to be punished, his house is set on fire as he and the one he cares about the most are trapped inside. The scenery contracts the one from chapter 2. Michelle has her eyes open. His actions are on clear display and he feels as if she is judging him for having dragged her into his mess. Gallerian has his eyes closed, he is unaware of what she actually thinks about him. She watches over him with a smile.

Eventually they hug and their silhouettes burn away. Credits starts to roll, but they are abrupt by a gavel slamming into the words. While he is now dead, his story is not over. Even in death, Gallerian refuses to give up on his hopeless goal.

->Chapter 4 Gallerian is now at the gates of hell, faced with Master of the hellish yard aka satan (I’ll call her Gumillia though). It is a scene that directly parallels his meeting with Nemesis in tmon. Gumillia offers to show him mercy if he pays her his fortune, quoting his catchphrase “money is the best lawyer in hell”. However, Gallerian refuses this offer, believing himself to still be above the gods. He quickly shows her that he is irredeemable by making his evil smile. Then he sprints to the exits, but instead trips and falls into hell. But even in hell, Gallerian has not given up on his wish. He swears that he will one day rebuild what he lost and create a utopia for his daughter. Though the song eventually ends with the sound of a gavel. His fate has been sealed, whether he accepts it or not.  And that makes my analysis of the mv! Some stuff might be plain obvious, especially for people familiar with the story. Though I hope I could still provide some kind of new insight for someone. Since this is so long, I will make another post about the novel and delve deeper into how he developed as a character and how he ended up as such a horrible person. But anyways, more so, this man skillfully [and charmingly] avoided the question about his stigma which leads me to believe his stigma is the exorcism of curses. [UNLESS, that's what he does as a priest and that's not his stigma.]

But then again, there's that one theory of shape-shifting with his R Tanuki Warding Card.]

This conversation with Rui makes so much more sense right now. WHICH LEADS ME TO MY NEXT POINT, if Clementia was shut down a year before the MC arrived to Darkwick, why was Haku put into Frostheim.

I mean, again, I kinda get why but with him being the heir to a Shinto shrine and not being put in Hotarubi or Clementia is so sus.

But then you have Ritsu, rich guy who was put into Sinostra and Kaito, who was put into Frostheim. [But, Kaito's also pretty sus.] {Ritsu's just a guy.}

This one makes me a bit frustrated, because, Haku's a simp for rules. [I'm quoting Taiga- the Fico simp] AND THERE'S absolutely no way he would let go of an anomaly right? AND I KNOW HE'S COMFORTING THE PC BUT IT STILL MAKES ME SAD CAUSE WHAT IF, WHAT IF HE WAS ONLY DOING THAT TO GAIN HER TRUST AND THEN HE'LL BETRAY HER AND ALL OF DARKWICK

*head in hands* Yeah, i'll believe you until the very end because potentially speaking, you're possibly the only ghoul I trust. [And Leo. HEAR ME OUT, I know he's out for blood (not really tho) but I'd trust Leo than the other ghouls. There's no way that boy is a traitor. 👍]

Also the entire conversation about someone potentially bringing the doll from the temple and him believing THE PC almost instantly? SUSPICIOUS. I'M WATCHING YOU WITH MY SECRET THIRD EYE HAKU.

I could go on a rant about how he works the Like Doves because a Shinto kami, Hachiman specifically used doves as a messenger. AND HOW INARI, another Shinto kami uses foxes as messengers.

YOU KNOW WHERE ELSE WE SAW A FOX WHO HAD EERILY SIMILAR EYES TO HAKU'S?! But, this is a theory, a game theory. [Sorry, I couldn't help but say that. ;-;]

OMG. WAIT. okay, but wait. If the ghouls and PC want the same thing, would it mean that being a ghoul is a curse? But, then again, they devoured the demon and Haku can't do shit about being a ghoul because *drum roll* he ate the demon.

Also, you know, the person Haku wants to help? What if they're being disciplined at the moment? And the "Have I ever lied to you?" to Cornelius? SUS I TELL YOU.

Thinking about the bat family doing normal family shit and it’s just a painful reminder that they are still human people and humans are kinda silly.

Like

They go ice skating and Jason, 6ft and 225 pound, the Red Hood, is comically bad at ice skating. One foot on the ice and he’s on his back with his feet in the air like a cartoon.

And he denies it the whole time but his legs shake and he clings to the wall with white knuckles while muttering curses like he’s trying to spell his feet to work.

Or they decide to go see a movie as a family. It’s a horror movie, and they assume everyone will be fine because they see enough horror in their daily life.

And normally they would be, but this is a slasher. So it’s all suspense and jumpscares and gore. And Tim, Tim who loves psychological thrillers and can see movie endings coming from miles away, is suddenly clinging to Dick’s arm as subtly as possible because every scare has him tensing and trying not to yelp.

Or they go out to a carnival, with rollercoasters and bad food and worse games to win dumb prizes. They’re walking around, splitting up to do various activities, and Dick and Damian comes up to Bruce and asks him to go home.

Why? Because Dick drank too much soda, he refuses to use the bathrooms. He has an irrational fear of outhouses. And Damian saw one of the mascots walking around, a man in some kind of shitty lion suit with a vest, and is convinced the lion suited man is going to get him. (Bruce does take them home, but Jason teases them the whole way.)

Just silly things that show how they are people beneath the masks.

"Please Don't Go" - Zenji-Jiro's bond as siblings probably. Jiro could possibly die at any moment if Yuri weren't around tbh so it could also go that way for Jiro-Yuri. Then, there's the theory of Jin and Yuri being siblings [which I think is very possible.] - OR like, it's a case of "Please don't disappear someday," which, already happened with Zenji and Jiro. Wonder if that's the route they'll take with Jin-Yuri [if they are siblings] where one almost dies.

Cause, like brothers who haven't spoken in a long time get together to talk through their difficulties and soon after, one of them dies is always a nice trope.

"Fleeting Freedom" - THIS IS INTERESTING. Cause, I can potentially see all of their freedom going poof. - Rui, because, his curse and he's restricted around Darkwick. - Haru, because he's so tied into looking for the animals. We know about his weak immune system so yeah- -Jin: would being the potential heir of the Kamurai business mean his only freedom at the moment is attending Darkwick? -Zenji is Zenji, a ghost. There's the possibility of Subaru, PC and Haku being unable to see him. OR, he'll go poof once Jiro is no longer in need of Yuri's treatment? OR, if his work gets published and becomes a renowned work of literature.

Longer Jin tangent:

There's this conversation with Kaito, which I really wish they'd expand on more 😀🤚 What do you mean KAITO Anyways, this makes me think that ghouls have a different system of passing a year compared to the general students. I would say you need to attend classes, but then again, you also don't need to once you're a third-year student as it's mostly self-study. [It's mentioned in passing I believe,] [TLDR- I think Jin's looking for a way to not graduate.]

Choso has probably never cuddled before in his life.

So when you climb into his lap, all sleepy and warm, and melt against his chest with a content little sigh, it kind of shuts off his whole brain.

He stiffens at first, arms hovering awkwardly in the air, unsure whether to hold you or push you off out of guilt. You’re so soft and warm that it's making him feel a little weird. When you nuzzle into his neck with a tiny yawn? Oh, he’s done for. Absolutely ruined.

Eventually - tentatively - his arms settle around you. A little stiff and unsure, but he’s trying. And when your breathing evens out and you go limp on top of him, he starts giving your butt the gentlest little pats.

He doesn’t know why. It just feels right. Like maybe that’s what you do to someone you love when they’re falling asleep on you.

If only you could see the blushing disaster he’s become. Pink creeping all the way up to his ears, eyes wide, mouth parted because he can't help the little noise that escapes.

Thinking about how The Murderbot Diaries is a character that is completly and fully character driven to the point where the very writing and book format is revolved around it.

The first book is short, concise. It skips a bunch of scenes over the course of many weeks. It focuses purely on what Murderbot thinks is important and worth focusing on. Thats why the majority of the book is dedicated to its thought process, its complaints, or it's fear. It skips over "meaningful" scenes because it doesn't find them important. Like most of the conversations, like it helping Volescu. It doesn't care. It does care when it feels uncomfortable and wants to be left alone. It does care when its scared and something big might happen. It does care about Mensah which is why the few scenes that are more meaningful are with Mensah and then back to narration.

The books get longer and longer as they go on, showing how as Murderbots journey continues so does its ability to care. More intimate moments, more admitting to us that it's afraid, it doesn't want this, it does want this. It begins to describe and pay attention more and more to whats going on around it and it grows to decide what it wants and it's all so beautifully conveyed through writing.

Even The Company was such a clever and subtle way of telling us something. Because everything in the books centers on how Murderbot thinks. Murderbot would never aknowledge its feelings towards The Company and therefore we never knew of it until someone pointed it out. And that too is development because now Murderbot cares enough to let us know. To let itself know. It still shuts down, draws away in its own thoughts. But each book gets longer and longer with less time between them because Murderbot is slowly learning to pay attention, and interact, and aknowledge the present moment. Its learning to care
