Shortly after his appointment, Mr Sinwar made contact with Egyptian mediators to convey his firm message, with conditions: a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the release of high-profile Palestinian detainees as part of a ceasefire deal to end the war, the sources said.
He also informed the Egyptians he was “uncompromisingly” opposed to the Palestinian Authority running postwar Gaza. The PA exercises partial control in some areas of the Israeli-occupied West Bank but has been at odds with Hamas for years.
Mr Sinwar also made it clear he rejects the deployment of a multinational force in postwar Gaza to maintain security until legislative and presidential elections are held.
“To Yahya Sinwar, the release of Palestinian prisoners is very high on his priorities,” said one source.
“He wants to see Marwan Barghouti and Ahmed Saadat freed, and will not compromise on that,” added the source, alluding to the senior Fatah leader widely viewed as a possible successor to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and the leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, respectively.

König x Reader | Full Chapter
Part 19- You can thread the needle, time and time again
König POV
At this, König stills.
Shock. Then fury—frigid and sharp. His fists clench as he fights to hold it in, his body going rigid. A statue. Waiting, unbreathing, for you to continue.
For a long while, you say nothing. Still picking at the damned sheets, eyes unfocused. He clears his throat. You jump.
"Explain." His voice is stiff, strained with barely concealed rage.
"I... I don't know where to start," you admit, chewing your lip beneath the mask.
König forces himself to be patient. "Start from the beginning, yes?"
You inhale deeply, exhaling slow. Shoulders straightening, still looking at the floor. Still refusing to meet his eyes.
"I joined the Army when I was eighteen years old."
Not quite the beginning he meant, but he does not interrupt. He will not miss a chance to hear about the thing you so rarely speak of—yourself.
"I didn't... I didn't necessarily want to. But I didn't really have any other options. My home life, it wasn't... the best."
Your face twists with something dark. He doesn’t press— knows better, though a pit forms in his stomach.
"Anyway, I figured I'd join, maybe be assigned a desk job or work in the mess hall doing food prep," a bitter laugh slips out.
"I did get a desk job; communications. And I loved it. For a while."
Silence again.
"Why the Green Berets, then?"
A little smile, still tinged with that acrid aftertaste. "I wanted to do more," you mumur, so softly he almost misses it.
"The Green Berets, they do the most humanitarian work out of any of the United States armed forces. Did you know that?"
He shakes his head, equally quiet. "No, I did not."
"I felt like a coward, hiding behind the desk. I didn't want to join, I had to. It was... almost a compulsion. Couldn't imagine doing anything else." You shake your head.
"I was young and stupid. I hated getting up early. Hated being yelled at. Hated exercise. Still can't understand what I was thinking..." you trail off.
"But it was something I had to do. And I did— I was the youngest female Green Beret to ever graduate." There’s something like pride in your voice.
"I was promoted to Sergeant. Still working comms, but in the field this time."
You swallow. Your next words snag, a loose thread caught on jagged metal.
"It was near the end of my first contract, when my squadron was ordered to preform an exfiltration in Al Mazrah. A local group had captured some high ranking-personnel from a multinational spec ops unit."
It clicks into place before you finish. The undeaniable truth of who exactly you had been sent after.
König says nothing.
"It went well at first. Almost textbook. We grabbed the target, were on our way out. He was beat to shit, so I was practically carrying him. Then... then all hell broke loose."
Finally, you look at him, eyes haunted— decaying.
"There was a grenade," the words are whispered, anguished.
Dear God.
"I... I laid on top of the target. Didn't have time to run."
You are pleading with him now. Begging him to understand.
The room is silent but for your ragged breathing. Tears threaten your lash line, the ache in them evident as you choke, "My team didn't make it."
The sight of your tears nearly undoes him. This quiet devastation is somehow worse than the mournful wailing from that night outside the medical wing. It rips through him, as your pain always does.
Before he can stop himself, König grasps your hand, threading his fingers with yours.
He squeezes. His gaze never wavers.
You take a shaky breath, steadying yourself.
"I don't remember getting up or dragging us out, but I must have. Next thing I know, I'm waking up in the hospital, feeling like shit warmed over."
"I was medically dead, you know. Five whole minutes. In a coma for nearly a month."
Silence reigns again. And König wonders how the fuck you are still here.
You fidget, waiting for him to speak.
"What happened next?"
Your eyebrows raise, clearly not expecting such interest in the after.
"Got honorably discharged, started recovery. It was shit."
The dry tone of your voice forces a a low laugh from him.
"And how did you end up here?"
"KorTac didn't take long to reach out. Funded my recovery under the condition I sign a contract after."
It is his turn to raise his eyebrows. Since when did KorTac take an interest in wounded soldiers? His confusion must be evident, since you shrug.
"Don't know why. But I sure as hell wasn't turning down the chance to walk again."
The horror at your statement must also be plain on his face, because you let out a biting laugh.
"You think the VA gave a fuck if I walked again? They wanted to stick me in a wheel chair to rot."
It makes him sick. The thought of you—prideful, so independent—withering away in an underfunded hospital. Alone. Forgotten.
König swallows against the ache it brings, reaching for the right words—for something, anything, that might stitch back the wounds you just tore open for him to see.
"It's how I got these, you know." Your voice is conversational, almost hollow, as your fingers trace the scars eclipsing your chest and arm.
"You must think I'm horribly stupid."
He does not miss the forced humor in your voice. Nor does he miss the quiet search beneath it—the search for his damnation, his approval, something.
"I think," he begins, his free hand trailing up your arm, fingers ghosting over skin before settling at your shoulder, "that you are brave."
He holds you like something fragile, like fractured glass. Despite the strength beneath his hand, he finds you delicate. Precious.
You look up at him, startled. "I think," his voice is little more than a whisper, "you are horribly selfless."
König wishes to believe the sudden, unsteady catch in your breath is a mirror of his own feelings, but knows it is not. He stomps his down, determined to right the lense through which you view yourself, if nothing else.
"I think you are so very kind, Taube, but unable see past yourself. Please do not think I would ever consider you less than, for being courageous." He searches your eyes.
Something unnamed passes through them, soft and warm, vulnerable. It makes his heart stutter in his chest.
He wants to kiss you.
The thought is errant, but cutting. König jerks back before he can act on it.
Scheiße.
Clearing his throat, he allows his hand to fall from your shoulder.
"And you are not the only one with scars, Atlas."
He looks back to you, but you look suspiciously unsurprised. "Is that why you wear it?" Your chin tilts towards his face, an obvious reference to the mask.
The question is curious, no judgement in your voice. He nods, absentmindedly brushing his fingers across his mouth.
"Ja. I learned early that others do not take kindly to those who appear different." He pauses. "Children are cruel."
You frown. "Yes, they are. They're also ignorant." You look down, and before he can stop, König finds himself marveling at the shadows your lashes cast against your cheek, fluttering as you search for words.
"I bet you're beautiful under that hood anyway."
His breathing stops.
Barely able to choke out the words, he mutters, "I assure you, I am not."
You hum, unconvinced. "Whatever you say."
His eye twitches, desperate to change the topic. "Will you be able to work with Price?"
Cutting him a look that could peel paint from the walls, you nod once. Sharp and decisive.
"Yes. It just... caught me off guard, is all. If I had known it wouldn't have been like that. I swear, I'm fine." König hears what you do not say. How it is less about the Captain and more about the remnants of your past.
About never being able to escape it entirely, no matter how far you run.

June 10, 2025: King Felipe visited the Operations Zone in Romania.
The Romanian Multinational Battlegroup is one of eight counterparts deployed along the eastern flank of the NATO to contribute to the deterrence and defense of this area. The activities to be carried out are similar to those already carried out by the Spanish Armed Forces deployed in Latvia and Slovakia. These include training exercises, integrated into the French-led Multinational Battlegroup, as well as those carried out in cooperation with the Romanian Armed Forces.

In 2025...
87% of countries violated the right to strike.
The right to strike enables workers to collectively stop working to advocate for their rights, for example, better pay and safer conditions.
-> Police brutality, arrests, prosecution, governments issue orders to unduly limit strikes, or render them illegal. The right to strike and peaceful assembly are criminalised, with organisers facing severe penalties, including prison sentences.
80% violated the right to collective bargaining.
The right to collective bargaining enables workers to negotiate with their employer via a representative trade union.
-> Employers routinely refuse to apply or violate collective bargaining agreements. Regressive reforms implemented by right wing governments reinforce the employer's power to impose working conditions.
72% of countries restricted workers’ access to justice—the worst figure recorded so far.
The right to access to justice gives workers the ability to seek and receive fair remedy through the legal system when their rights have been violated.
-> Union leaders are routinely detained and prosecuted on trumped-up charges, with trials characterised by a blatant disregard for due process and impartiality. Workers seeking redress for rights violations were systematically obstructed (delays, affordability, unfair dismissal...)
45% of countries restricted freedom of speech and assembly.
Free speech, freedom of expression, and the right to assembly are fundamental civil liberties that are vital for a healthy trade union movement.
-> Arbitrary arrests, detentions, and imprisonment. Unionists endure an alarming level of persecution across the world. Workers faced detention and prison sentences for exercising their union freedoms. Police conducted raids on union leaders’ homes. In France, several union offices were vandalised by far-right extremists. A unionist was attacked by his employer while supporting a colleague during a disciplinary procedure. French union officials have also been targeted with anonymous death threats. In Haiti, almost all union leaders and representatives have been forced to abandon their homes to escape armed gangs.
Ronaldo Geovany Gómez Godoy, a member of the National Union of Health Workers of Guatemala was killed on 23 September 2024 by hired assassins.
On 5 September, teacher René Sucup Morán, a union leader of Sindicato de Trabajadoras y Trabajadores de la Educación de Guatemala, was murdered by a hitman.
On 15 June 2024, Anastacio Tzib Caal, a leader in the network of textile maquila unions in Guatemala, was gunned down.
In South Africa, a strike at a multinational automotive manufacturer was violently dispersed by security guards, who opened fire on workers. One, Njabulo Mpulo, was killed and more than 10 others were hospitalised with severe injuries.
---
Today, a tiny fraction of the global population – less than 1% – controls nearly half of the world’s wealth. This concentration of economic power allows a small group of billionaires to exert outsized influence over global decision-making, including on labour rights and protections, which directly affect the lives of the workers who sustain the global economy. This coup on democracy is often orchestrated by far-right politicians and their unelected billionaire backers.
Authorities in an increasing number of countries are misusing legislative powers to stigmatise, weaken, and restrict the resources of the independent labour movement, civil society organisations, and the media. New laws targeting so-called “foreign influence” impose strict controls on non-governmental organisations classified as receiving “foreign funds” and engaging in “political activities”. The definitions of these terms are often deliberately broad and vague, tailored to silence those defending rights and freedoms in repressive states.
These laws are often introduced under the false pretence of safeguarding national security, and typically without any consultation with trade unions. They expand state surveillance powers of scrutiny and hinder unions from receiving support from international trade union bodies and human rights organisations. Beyond restricting resources, such measures suppress political dissent and promote the damaging narrative that the labour movement is unpatriotic or acting under foreign influence. Such a narrative discredits the image of unionists and emboldens repressive state authorities and exploitative employers.

[Updated] EA-18G Growler Crashes In San Diego Bay
A U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler crashed in San Diego Bay. According to the first reports, the crew members ejected safely.
David Cenciotti
EA-18G crash
Reports have started circulating online of a U.S. Navy aircraft crashing in the San Diego Bay around 10.00 AM LT on Feb. 12, 2025. The aircraft reportedly went down in the water water off Point Loma coast in San Diego, California.

A U.S. Navy spokesperson told ABC 10News that the aircraft involved was an EA-18G Growler. The spokesperson also confirmed that the aircrew ejected, and the U.S. Coast Guard successfully rescued them.
An ABC 10News team happened to be nearby covering a different story when they witnessed the immediate aftermath of the crash.
Naval Air Station North Island is located just east of where the news crew was positioned during the incident.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department initially responded but was later called off as federal emergency teams, including the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and Harbor Police, handled the rescue and pulled the pilots from the water.
Both pilots were transported to UC San Diego Health, according to SDFD. An ABC 10News reporter saw the pilots being brought into the hospital. Harbor Police are currently maintaining a perimeter around the crash site.
While the full extent of the pilots’ injuries is not yet known, they were reported to be in stable condition.
According to some reports, the aircraft declared an emergency before the accident. Bad weather/poor visibility is reported in the crash area.
Our friend Rick Kane (@paintingsurfer) shared some incredible shots of the mishap.

The Growler may have been one of those involved in Exercise Bamboo Eagle 25-1, a multinational exercise launched by the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center and aimed at enhancing cooperation, agility, and combat readiness. This year’s iteration brings together the U.S. Air Force, Royal Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, and, for the first time, the Royal Canadian Air Force. Focused on Agile Combat Employment, the exercise prepares forces to rapidly adapt, relocate, and sustain operations across dispersed locations, even under contested conditions. According to Maj. Gen. Christopher Niemi, this training strengthens allied capabilities to face emerging threats as a cohesive unit.
The EA-18G Growler is the Electronic Warfare/Attack variant of the two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet that replaced the EA-6B Prowlers in U.S. Navy service. The aircraft is operated by the VAQ-129 Vikings; VAQ-130 Zappers; VAQ-131 Lancers; VAQ-132 Scorpions; VAQ-133 Wizards; VAQ-134 Garudas; VAQ-135 Black Ravens; VAQ-136 Gauntlets; VAQ-137 Rooks; VAQ-138 Yellowjackets; VAQ-139 Cougars; VAQ-140 Patriots; VAQ-141 Shadowhawks; VAQ-142 Gray Wolves; VAQ-143 Cobras and VAQ-144 Main Battery.
The one involved in the crash should be EA-18G 166855 assigned to the VAQ-135 Black Ravens.
Today’s crash of a Growler in San Diego Bay brings to mind the tragic incident last October, when an EA-18G Growler went down near Mount Rainier, claiming the lives of two naval aviators. In fact, an EA-18G Growler Electronic Attack assigned to the Electronic Attack Squadron 130 (VAQ-130) “Zappers” crashed near Mount Rainier, Washington, on Oct. 15, 2024 at 3:23 p.m. local time. The aircraft wreckage was located in the mountainous region by search teams on Wednesday, October 16. The fate of the two naval aviators aboard the Growler at the time of the crash remained unknown until Oct. 21, 2024, when the U.S. Navy identified them as Lt. Cmdr. Lyndsay “Miley” Evans and Lt. Serena “Dug” Wileman.
For more details on the previous crash, check out The Aviationist‘s report here.
This is a developing story. We will update the story as more details are disclosed.
