Donnie is bi and uses He/They/It pronouns; he is nonbinary and uses masc titles.

Michelangelo

Mikey is pan and uses he/him or she/her; she is bigender (both a girl and a boy) and uses fem or masc titles interchangeably.

Leonardo

Leo is gay and uses he/him. He is a transgender dude and uses masculine titles.

Raphael

Raph is a transgender girl who is a butch lesbian and uses he/him. He goes by masculine titles.

im here to talk about how my tmnt au's turtles and ppl and rats express their gender cuz i can

donnie is like so super nonbinary agender and he genuinely doesn't care what pronouns you use for him, but usually they put their pronouns as he/they/she. theyre also autistic and that's relevant because she doesn't really prioritize the way her clothes look so much as the way they feel. their wardrobe is pretty much just joggers and biking shorts, a few jackets, a few comfy skirts, and a few threadbare shirts that casey just so happened to lose 🧐🏳️‍🌈⁉️

leo is transfem, she still goes by leonardo and she tends to be pretty androgynous in casual settings, although she does tie her mask in a bow and she does dress up sometimes- casey and april LOVE to do her makeup although usually it's just eyeliner lol

raph is genderfluid and bigender but in general is the most stereotypically masculine- he doesn't wear a lot of feminine stuff, it's just not his thing, but sometimes she will tie her mask tails up into a bow as a little way to signal that shes feeling feminine. he wears shirts more than any of the other turtles, and it's usually some niche rock/metal band tee that gets all ripped up in the back because of his little snapper spikes

mikey is the resident he/they, but he secretly (and eventually not so secretly) like being referred to by neopronouns (which i may or may not list later) and donnie is the og neopronouner in the household (ze/zir) mikeys clothes are too colourful to be sifted into masculine and feminine stuff and they usually have neon joggers on. they also like to make kandi btw tehehehe

april is the only cisgender person here, but she's not feminine by any standards, and her peak gender expression is androgynous blob

casey jones is intersex transmasc because i never see enough intersex rep and his parents were very supportive of his transition and he's able to get her yayayyay!! he dresses like a slutty gay boy greaser but don't we all? imagine a teenage boy wearing what 87 casey wears lol. he has little a cups and literally never wears a bra or a binder he's like peak free the nipple and we love him for that- he basically just challenges the patriarchy's idea of gender and i love him he's so me

I been thinking about my turtle gender+sexuality headcanons (the ones I am reasonably familiar with)

To start, 2003:

Leonardo: I see him as transmasc, most likely coming out in early childhood by simply requesting that his family refer to him as a boy like his brothers, no fanfair. Probably gay, but I can swing bi/panromantic. I like him on the asexual spectrum. He seems most interested in people who can hold their own in a fight, as well as those with some kind of authority. Subby as fuck.

Raphael: Almost stereotypically masculine, you might think Raph is cis, but I see him more as bigender or a transwoman. She is unaware of this, and will never have any kind of egg moment on his own. Needs Donny to literally remind her that Leo transitioned when they were kids. Bi with heavy gay leaning. Wants a partner who can kick his ass.

Donatello: The rare cis turtle, demiromantic or aromantic pan. Sees sex more as a platonic bonding activity, would probably like a qpr.

Michelangelo: My boy hasn't seen a gender she doesn't like, whether that be for identity or dating. Very fluid in how they see both xirself and the world. I do prefer he/him for Mikey, but I also feel that he wouldn't give a fuck what pronouns are used.

2012 up next

Leonardo: I love transfem Leo with my heart and soul (big shock, I know), however this turtle is a veritable playground for identity headcanons. Leo can be read as transfem, transmasc, bigender, agender or really anything you can think of. Will be supremely insecure about this, even when no one else cares. Sexuality wise, Leo is into you as long as you're related to her able to kick her ass.

Raphael: Can be read as either transfem or transmasc, although I'm personally fond of masc. He'd prefer a woman who will kick his ass before pampering him, or a guy he can bully.

Donatello: Donatello desperately wants to be seen as "normal," to the point of refusing to acknowledge that he is both masc nonbinary and bi.

Michelangelo: Once again our pan king, Mikey will fall in love with most people within minutes of meeting them, even if that is very obviously a bad idea. Dtf whenever, but I actually think Mikey would see sex as just a fun thing to do, rather than something to be actively desired. Prefers a more masc identity, although whether that is as a cis guy or trans varies by the day.

Rise!

Leonardo: A gay transman, big shock I know. Like I don't even think that's a headcanon, I'm pretty sure that's just canon (fight me). I actually think this boy wants an authority figure more than any other Leo, and probably wants to be bullied and praised in equal amounts.

Raphael: I actually see him as cis, but I have seen the transfem art, and see the appeal. Pan as hell, with a preference for the cute and badass. Would probably also like an older partner who could kick his ass.

Donatello: Transmasc nonbinary and living it without shame. Bi, with preference for women.

Michelangelo: "Gender is optional, orange is not" quote stolen from rayshippouuchiha's Naruto Don't Gender Good au. I just think it fits him really well. Ace/aro, but loves the concept of love, just for other people. Arolovic.

Raph is pansexual and polyamorous. He’s bigender and uses he/she pronouns. For neurodivergence he’s autistic (which comes with ADHD as a bonus)

Donnie is aroace. He’s nonbinary in that he’s kind of a guy but if you asked him his gender he’d look at you like you were a bit dumb and say he’s a turtle. He uses he/they pronouns and is ADHD autistic

Mikey is also aroace and nonbinary, though in the latter case it’s that he has soooo much gender. He’s stealing it and melting it all down in a big cauldron to make gender soup. He already got Donnie’s. Uses any pronouns. Has hyperactive type ADHD

My favorite! The biggest sibling, both in age and physical size. I was very very tempted to just put she/her but decided not to in the end. Keep in mind majority of the aspects of his apperance are personal headcanons (And sometimes projections-)

Other headcanons:

Suffers hallucinations brought on by the krang attack which cause her to shut down.

Doesn't bite people anymore, but did as a child. Splinter's ear was his fault, though he has no memory of it.

Her brothers used to put marshmallows on her spikes when they were younger.

He and Leo were very close throughout the healing process after the krang, neither wanted to let the other out of their sight for a long time.

When she showed interest in more "girly" things to her brothers & sister, they were all very supportive. April & Leo helped her the most when it came to expressing her identity.

Likes clothes and wishes he could wear them more often, but the shell kinda gets in the way.

Has to bandage her tail to avoid busting it up when it wags (Like happy tail, but turtles instead of dogs)

It's more comfortable to drag it, but he can lift his tail up and off the ground if he wants.

Is the 2nd closest to April, if only for their status as the oldest siblings.

Donnie used to lay under her tail when they were kids, kind of like a weighted blanket.

Loves crafts in general and is kind of like a 'jack of all trades, master of none' type. Sewing and sculpting are her favorites.

First actual post of the new year let’s go, we’re only a.. week in..

Anyways what I’ve been working on outside of a v big animatic is my own tmnt iteration!! It’s heavily inspired by rise both in art style and a few story beats I’m borrowing + expanding on differently but anyways onto the fun part, the main characters aka my set of the turtles youngest to oldest!

The age order from youngest to oldest goes: Mikey, Raph, Donnie, Leo and then Venus

Mikey is a 5,1 Spotted pond turtle who uses he/they/star/it pronouns and has the ninpo ability of mimicking other’s abilities, he and Raph are twins, age 14

Raph is a 4,11 Spiny Turtle whose bigender and uses he/she pronouns and has the ninpo ability of manipulating what material is body is made out of and can change his atom structure/state, he and Mikey are twins, age 14

Donnie is 5,6 Four eyed turtle who is agender and uses he/they/ve pronouns and has the ninpo ability of forecefields and molecular kinesis, age 15

Leo is a 5,7 Peacock slider who is trans masc and uses he/they pronouns and has the ninpo ability of bloodlust ig, basically every drop of blood exposed to open air around him gives him a power boost at the cost of extreme bloodlust, he’s also the team media, age 15

Venus is a 5,10 Painted terrapin Demi-girl who uses she/they/cloud pronouns and has the ninpo ability of multiplication, the objects density stays the same through all multiples but depending on the size only a certain amount of replicas can be made, the more replicas the more energy, she can also duplicate herself though it takes much more energy and she has to actively control the replica making it a hassle, age 16

As a trans person who just got a referral sent to our trans care, I’m losing it over trans turtle headcanons

So, being inspired by @3rdsday ‘s post about 2012!Donnie being trans, here’s my gender/pronoun headcanons for the rottmnt gang!

Mikey - nonbinary, uses he/they pronouns

Leo - trans (ftm), uses he/him pronouns

Donnie - demiboy or agender, uses he/they/it pronouns

Raph - doesn’t really care for labels, uses primarily he/him pronouns but doesn’t mind people using other pronouns

April - demigirl, uses she/they pronouns

BONUS Sunita - bigender or genderfluid, pronouns she/they/it

I drew the 2012 Turtles as humans

These unlike my rise designs heavily feature headcanons. They’re still Blaisian. I used actual screenshots from the show for my references for all of them.

We’ve got Bigender Raph so her pronouns are she/he and her outfit is literally based off of one he wore multiple times in the show.

Leo is transfem. Her design is somewhat based off of both Hamato Yoshi and Karai. She had gender envy for Karai so she got a bleached undercut to emulate her and has eyeliner. Her outfit is based off of Hamoto Yoshi’s from before he got mutated except in her color.

Mikey I don’t have any particularly strong headcanons for gender. His outfit is based off of Skater fashion and I used Camilo from Encanto for Reference for the hair than of course he’s got his freckles.

Than Donnie (he/they) honestly I don’t really have an origin for their design, it’s kind of acleptic and chaotic. It’s got a sweater vest because that just seems like their thing in purple, than an undershirt in green like their skin, and of course a lab coat but more for the aesthetic than actual lab safety.

These are kinda random stuff I don't really talk about but are real lol

-Mikey has about 3 pets, a hairless cat named klunk(like klunk from 2003), a skunk named zombie that he shares with Raph and I was planning on leatherhead being an albino alligator and basically going through what spike went through in 2012. But expect spike in my redesigns dies from natural causes

-Casey has millipedes about 2 or 4 idk for sure yet, and ofc they freak Raph out but Casey asks Raph to watch them sometimes because to her their her babies, her children

-Casey has a younger sister. Her name is angel(like angel in 2003)and she's afro Latino, she's just like Casey except not as rambunctious I guess you could say, she is homeschooled by Donnie and Leo tho because she was kicked out of her public school

-Angel stays with the turtles during the day while Casey's at school. He prefers her to stay with Raph cause he trusts him the most(their bf and gf t4t that's all lol)and she loves spending time with them. She doesn't really have a connection with Donnie he's not a big kid person and he's kinda introverted so it scares her but when they are around each other Donnie's really nice to her. She likes to sit with Leo and watch anime shows or kid shows or Leo would read to her, she likes to play game sand stuff with Mikey or help him cook dinner and Raph will normally get her breakfast and watch TV with her or show her moves to protect herself in combat if needed and he also puts her to bed for Casey. She wishes she was a mutant lol

-Leos transfem but is fine with wearing things on the more adrogonest/masculine side. Zeir loves makeup and stuff tho and dresses just doesn't wear dresses often

-Aprils also trans mtf and has been at a very young age. Her dad is openly accepting and she got to transition at a younger age as well(probably around 7)she did get picked on a bit in middle school for it tho but it's stopped

-Raphs trans ftms and has gotten top surgery. No logic just happened

-When Mikey was younger he used stickers to help cope with his albinism (he's the only albino one out of the four) because he felt out of place and lost for a bit. Every year his siblings buy him stickers

-Donnie and April don't date nor crush on each other at all. But they are really close with each other which is lucky for her cause Donnie's not very social with others or people in general, they both love biology and taxidermy stuff

-Leo and April tho are besties fr. They have a big sis little sis type relationship and April will help Leo catch up on news stuff or talk about shows they like (they both love sailor moon)

-Mikey does Aprils hair sometimes

-All of the turtles cook once in a while except for Donnie, not a big fan of that type of stuff. But mostly Mikey and Leo. Mikey likes to experiment and come up with ideas and leos kinda his "sidekick". Raph doesn't cook often but he's pretty good at it as well but he's mostly their guinea pig lol

-Donnie likes spaghett-os

-Donnie is also really involved internet wise. Bro definitely has a Tumblr or reddit and will scams people on the dark web for parts for machines sometime lol

-Donnie also has one of those military robots, they made it their self

-Raph and Donnie are twins. But when they were younger Raph was bigger then Donnie, Donnie ends up being taller then him after 12 but Raph gets taller as adults and they're around the same height again
