If you've been following me or reading through my blog, you might notice I've posted recently about Pastra. More specifically the Jeff The Killer rewrite they did. Now watching that got me to watch a stream they did a few months back on quinnamon's channel with some other people where they talked about the Jeff the killer fandom, and I left a comment on that video regarding an observation I've had stuck in my head for a while now about internet media in general that I feel the need to also voice here because I find it so fascinating.

With that context out of the way, here's my copy pasted (but slightly cleaned up) analysis of human mythology and memetic evolution of stories and canons as it pertains to the internet, creepypasta OCs, popular AU fanfiction, Star Wars, and The Bible:

The Jeff The Killer OC rabbithole reminds me of the Undertale AU community. The Undertale community in general has people convincing themselves that fan additions are canon, but the OC fanfic network of OCs being made to interact with other OCs is the same thing basically, except with the multiverse involved. Which, I'm told, was also the main basis of the Onceler fandom beyond the initial selfcest pairing.

But as I mentioned it also reminds me of the Undertale fandom in general and over there, there are arguments about what is fanon and what is canon to this day. Canon is a term we invented because of similar arguments regarding religion, more specifically christianity. The modern depiction of both hell and Lucifer are based on fanfiction, that being Dante's Inferno and Paradise Lost. Which goes to show that religion and mythology is just a big web of fanfiction that becomes considered canon with time and popularity. Its all a game of telephone but with people intentionally changing stuff to add OCs or headcanons. As another commenter pointed out, this is also the entire basis of Arthurian Legend. And I've also seen people make comparisons between fandom and religion plenty of times, notably, someone once said that people argue over star wars canon down to the smallest details as special editions or original edition, and they treat it the same way different denominations of Christianity treat the different versions of the Bible that exist. And I can see exactly what they mean by that and they have a point

The thing is though, is that the internet allows these things, like Creepypasta OCs, and AU versions of characters, to happen much faster and without being nearly as limited by geographical concerns. It's like a sped up, but less mainstream, version of that phenomenon. People say comics are the modern american mythology or whatever, and its kinda true, but this is how it really works, because this is entirely in the hands of the people and there is no true canon.

In conclusion, Jeffrey Woods is Sans Undertale who is also Jesus Christ, none of which actually have those last names by the way. Thanks for reading.

I know pretty much everyone and their grandma has said how irritating the Disney sequel problem is. (Don’t get me wrong, theres some good ones. But ya’ll know what I mean.) But is anyone else just a little concerned at this point? Like first of all it just seems a little uncanny:

“Gosh, I can’t wait for ‘Finding Nemo for the fourth time’ to be released. Or perhaps I should go watch ‘Outside In’. Oh wait I know, I’ll go watch Cars 8! I need to see if Lightning McQueen say KACHOW for the 48th time in film history after all!”

But I think on top of that it’s just the most bizarre thing to just live in a timeline when you will be there for the original Toy Story release, and also see Toy Story 37 go to theaters in your life.

idk if anyone else is watching s5 of the Dragon Prince, but end of ep 2, Viren’s having a dark magic induced fever dream of playing and loving on toddler Soren and he lifts him up and spins him around and called him “my Golden boy” I just --- what if Belos planted a similar memory in Hunter when he was created. Like what if that artificial memory was something our Golden Guard carried around for his entire life while he believed he was idk normal?! uggghhh my heart

The Bad Batch as People You See at a Taylor Swift Concert (in Honor of Crosshair being a Swiftie)

Hunter- The dad who’s a little confused but he’s got the spirit. He knows a few words to the popular songs and is looking around to make sure everyone is being safe and having a good time. Will let someone use his phone to call someone if they’re lost. Probably wearing a Chiefs shirt with “Go Taylor’s boyfriend” written on it or something similar.

Wrecker- The person with over a thousand friendship bracelets that they made to exchange and give away to people. The most wholesome person at the concert who afterwards will be in everyone’s story time videos as a wholesome and positive anecdote. Probably dressed as the Lover Era or 1989 Era.

Tech- Explaining all the lore, hidden meanings, and Easter eggs in the songs. Has very strong opinions and theories and can and will engage in debate (all in good fun of course).

Crosshair- Dressed as the Reputation Era of course. The person recording parts of the concert and singing at the top of their lungs the whole time. Somehow knows all the words to every song. Cries so hard during certain songs that you’re genuinely concerned for their health and wonder who hurt them (he’s just like me fr)

Omega- The kid at their first concert (this was me during the Speak Now Tour!) who is very excited to see Taylor Swift and probably first got into her from an older influence (Crosshair) being a fan of hers. Most likely dressed in Speak Now or Fearless Era, but could also be Lover.

Echo- The mom having the time of her life who may or may not have dressed up with her kiddos. Probably tipsy or drunk and spends the whole concert either singing and dancing along or taking a million pictures of her kids. Probably will also engage in very passionate discussions, either with Tech or with someone else; probably has personal beef with at least one of Taylor’s exes.

I stand by the Don't Like, Don't Read concept, and I carefully check the tags for all the content I engage with. Yet, sometimes I end up disappointed, which is inevitable, of course. I never take it out on content creators, for they have done their best expressing themselves and bringing their unique ideas to life, but… I must confess that whenever I come across a fic where Hob actively and somewhat arrogantly challenges Dream upon his return , I don't find it plausible in the slightest. Have you seen how the man looked at him in 1389? He was smitten. He was smitten from the first look, the first word, the very hint of smell. And you tell me that when Dream finally returns to him after missing their 1989 meeting, Hob would lash out at him? Wouldn't weigh his every word? Wouldn't look at him as if he were the most wonderful thing to ever grace this earth? Sorry, but I don't believe you.

Let's talk.

I was expecting Addams Family 2019 to be bad. I really was. My expectations were on the floor. I'd seen clips and I knew the cast. I knew the general breakdown of the plot. I wasn't expecting there to be so many parts that I would actually like.

Don't get me wrong, the thing is terrible. One of the worst Addams Family movies I've ever seen. (It's above Addams Family Reunion because that one put me to sleep five minutes in three different times over the years and I have yet to watch it all the way through. Also, I haven't seen Addams Family 2.)

The thing is, there were a lot of moments, jokes, and even plot points that I actually really liked, but the execution for most of them was 💩. I think a good half of it or so could potentially work on paper if not in an animated (or even live action) movie.

My favorite joke (that is to say, "the one that made me laugh the hardest") was the cotton candy bit.

Then you have the "lime in the coconut" nonsense.

The spider bridge followed by "surfing the web".

WTF.

Also, I'm saying this as an Addams Family fan and not a crazy fan of any of the cast specifically, even though I love so many of them, these guys were WASTED on this thing. Oscar Isaac was probably the best part (cause he's the only one who consistently sounded like he either gave a shit or was just trying to have some fun with terrible material) and I hate that he was in THIS version. I think that Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Bette Midler would be really good in live action as the same characters they voiced. Also, Finn Wolfhard was pretty good as Pugsley, but I can't see him trying to do it in front of a camera.

As an Oscar Isaac fan I'm gonna say that my boy got done DIRTY.

Before I wrap this up, I just want to talk about the character designs.

I can get behind using the original comic designs for an animated movie. It's been done before. I think that's a pretty neat idea. HOWEVER, that works a lot better with 2D animation than 3D.

The arms and legs on the kids are so pencil thin that there were times I couldn't see their limbs as they moved. They just blended into the background.

Like so much else, the idea was good, the execution was not. Everyone is too thin, too smooth, and too weirdly simple despite clearly being complex at the exact same time. They look like clay balanced on pencils and toothpicks. Basically, give these guys some carbs, and add more details like Wednesday's noose braids. As is, they make Vivziepop characters look heavy and healthy by comparison.

Like I said earlier, it's not the worst Addams Family movie I've seen, but it's right next to the bottom. If Addams Family 2 is anything like this first one, it might get bumped up a notch though. I can't say. Have to see it first.

On Ships

I know, I know, no one cares about my opinions except me. But I’ll be damned if I don’t try to put my thoughts into words.

I am a shipper to my CORE!!! I love romantic relationships, always have, and I will CLING to any semblance of one if it’s canon or not!

What I want to say, though, is that ships don’t work unless the characters themselves do

Let me elaborate.

Character development is very important to me, and one thing I feel like people sometimes forget when building worlds is building relationships between characters that aren’t romantic. And I get that! I absolutely do. But the thing is

Characters are people outside of their ships.

That’s one of the reasons I adore a good friends to lovers moment, and I’ll use the classic Percabeth as an example.

Percy Jackson, as the main character, narrator, and protagonist of the first Riordanverse series, is well developed and expanded upon. BUT, even though Annabeth Chase winds up as his romantic interest, that’s not all she is.

Both of them have histories and friendships apart from each other, character traits that make up their personalities and vices, and they’re COMPLEMENTARY. That’s why they work. Because they’re their own characters.

For me, the best ships come from mutual understanding of one another, and compatibility in whatever situation the canon puts them in. Mutual interest, common ground, whatever it may be, I feel like the best relationships are founded in friendship; strong apart, but even stronger together.
