the use of pokéballs is typically required for official league participation (with occasional exception for certain cultural groups, but getting there is kind of a pain in the ass.) it allows for "registering" teams for official battles and whatnot, as most pokéballs have some form of tracking data.

i started to try to digitize kira, got like 20 minutes into it, and then remembered that i hate just about every single step in digital art, so. i stopped. pencil doodle it is!

He beamed, and the corners of his eyes crinkled with emotion. Joy, certainly, but also a sort of awe. Tenderness. And sadness, because Data was correct to call himself the first. He never would have expected to see admiration reflected back at him for something such as this--for something that was personal, and wasn’t intended as performance--and that only added gratitude to the swelling feelings within him.

"Thank you. That means a great deal to me, Data." He paused, then added, "More than I expected it to. I'm very grateful for your support."

Kenneth listened thoughtfully, noting the differences between his own experience and Data's. Where he knew of his creator and his... siblings from the moment of his creation, they didn’t and don't care for him in any personal way. Data had, apparently, known very little of his origins at the start of his life, but given how his creator had seen him, it certainly seemed appropriate to honor the relationship now that he knows.

"You still could!" he encouraged. "There's no reason you can't formally alter your records now, if you decide you'd like to be Data Soong! Or Soong Data, in the tradition of many fine cultures. Or, if you prefer, you could always use the name only in your personal life. That wouldn't diminish the connection at all, so long it's something meaningful to you."

He was still smiling. Connection. This was real connection. Kenneth had never been more certain of his own personhood, and that that confirmation could come from someone with such a similar background to himself was monumental.

He doesn't believe he would be bored in the slightest by any of the particulars of Data's life, but he doesn't comment on that. It was disheartening to know Data had had similar experiences in the past, but holograms always had sat somewhat behind androids, in terms of artificial intelligence integration and acceptance. That he now experienced true acceptance was only something to look forward to in his own future.

"Shmallis," he said. "A young Vidiian doctor suggested the name, when I was collaborating with her on her care. She said I reminded her very much of her uncle, and that was his name. I... cared for her a great deal, and I took it on gladly." He looked rather wistful for a moment, as he remembered her. "My first name, I picked somewhat at random. I tried on quite a few, but Kenneth is what I settled on. Dr. Kenneth Shmallis." His lips quirked up in a small smile. "No one has called me that in years."

"Did you ever consider taking on a family name in addition to your given one?"

Well I just saw on Weibo a RWRB fan who's a forensic analyst who wrote a "scientific" report proving Nick is scientifically a babygirl by analysing his skull structure 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
