What if through love and grief and talent you unwilling and unknowingly brought your best friend back from the dead. No, not your best friend. Something that looks like your dead best friend. And sounds like your dead best friend. And acts like your dead best friend down to her smallest mannerisms.
And talking to her, whatever it is you’ve brought into this world, you end up talking to it like you used to talk when you were with your best friend. As much as you try you still slip up when talking to her. And it’s so easy to treat her like shes your best friend, and so much harder to act like she’s not.
Then there are moments when you’ve can’t do anything but remember that that is not her. You watch as she stares into nothing. When she’s not fully there. When she is a horrible echo of tragedy and your own grief. And you remember over and over again.
But then she’s there again. The loving, protecting thing you have made that looks, and sounds, and comforts you and worries about you like your best friend did. Do you love her like you loved your best friend? Do we love memory as much as we love the person behind it? Grief is love persevering and the thing born from your grief, from your love, stands before you doing things and saying things only your best friend knew how to say to you.
Is she an echo? It’s so easy to talk to her like you talked with your best friend. It’s so easy to forget for just a moment. But you will never forget fully.
No matter what she is, you need her now. Even if your best friend died long ago.
Anyways this happened to my good friend Riri Williams.

AU where NATALIE AI meets Riri, except she’s more or less a ghost who can’t remember who she is or how she died. she soon realizes two seconds after this conversation that she cannot in fact eat and sulks for 3hrs about this.

Currently catching up on Ironheart. All those fanboys were so mad about the building something iconic line, because they thought it was about Riri's suit. If you actually watch the show, it's absolutely NATALIE. NATALIE is the iconic thing she creates.
#ironheart#riri williams#n.a.t.a.l.i.e#no one is impressed by her iron suit because it is the second coming of iron man#but whenever anyone meets natalie they are blown away#that ai is the greatest thing riri has ever invented because she's more than jarvis and friday and karen ever were

What am I thinking about? You Didn't ask but I'm going to tell you again.
Griot and N.A.T.A.L.I.E. but add some trauma and drama.
Okay so it's like this. The two of them have managed to get on the same wavelength whatever that means for AI's of course and seeing as Riri and Shuri are sometimes too busy separately they have to check in with each other to make sure their respective humans are okay.
So one day after a particularly hard mission Riri passes out in her suit mid-flight which of course leaves N.A.T.A.L.I.E. A little more than a little stressed. She's trying to reroute the suit but nothing is working so she has to ask for help? And of course Griot being calm, cool collected as he is helps navigate the suit to a jet he has meet them halfway.
She's new at this, great at it but new at it nonetheless, her programming is less than 3 months old after all. She says thank you- once she confirms that Riri is in fact, awake and safe of course.
And then she just kind of hangs out with him, I mean he's still getting roasted. She can't help that, but someone else having her back is definitely nice Even if he is old and annoying sometimes.
#n.a.t.a.l.i.e#griot#riri williams#shuri udaku#ironheart#black panther#The only AIS I support are ones from fictional universes obviously#but also the two of them being friends is healing to me for some reason#maybe that's weird. I don't care

I think the most frustrating thing about that finale is how Riri never really got to deal with the grief of losing Natalie and her step dad. I get character growth in the mcu is a slow burn and she was obviously manipulated by Mephisto. But, she still knew he was the one that gave parker that hood which turned him into a demon. Zelma told her magic comes with a price. Which is why when she infused it with her suit N.A.T.A.L.I.E was gone.
This entire show and the reason she was building the suit in the first place has been based around the idea of creating something 'iconic' so she could protect her family. It feels so out of character for her to make a deal with Mephisto, someone that she does not know anything about just to get her friend back. (I know she thought it was ai Natalie the same point applies). She didnt even consider how damaging this would be for Natalie's family or her brother that are clearly still processing their grief and trying to move forward with their lives.
Idk chat the show is still peak I just feel like they just assassinated Riri's character like MOM did to Wanda.

Ironheart 01x02 - Will the Real Natalie Please Stand Up
Where do we begin? Why don't we start with the most important part of this episode.
That neing N.A.T.A.L.I.E. The digitally resurrected AI of Riri's bestie.
N.A.T.A.L.I.E. steals the spotlight for a sizable chunk of the episode. She is instantly likable and charming. She comes into existence with a fully-formed personality, identity, and memories... while still being a hopeless goober who was born yesterday, just wants to help, and constantly messes up.
She's recognizable and comforting in a way that's initially unsettling to Riri, and raises questions about the depth of her knowledge of... what is effectively the character she's playing.
Though it's kind of weird that this is a question she raises. Uh, Riri? Didn't you create her from your brainscan? She should be a perfect copy of Natalie as you remember her, and know everything that you and Natalie experienced together.
But that's kind of the point with N.A.T.A.L.I.E. She's an eerily good recreation of Riri's dead bestie and it freaks Riri out.
She freaks me out a little too, in an "Oh no, is Marvel about to open a conversation they aren't equipped to handle?" sort of way.
Riri's mother Ronnie spends part of the episode meeting and conversing with N.A.T.A.L.I.E., and she's so moved by the experience that she wants a chatbot of her dead husband too. And it was at this point that I started to get a little nervous.
I had just been taking N.A.T.A.L.I.E. as a fictional AI character up to this point but now I'm wondering. Is Marvel trying to host a conversation about generative AI? Is that what this element is?
Because I'm not sure I trust the company that digitally resurrects dead actors and used AI art to make Secret Invasion's opening credits to have good opinions on that topic. I really hope N.A.T.A.L.I.E. isn't an attempt to propagandize ChatGPT.
Is that something we need to worry about in science fiction now? God, it probably is, isn't it? It's only a matter of time before AI characters start to draw inspiration from generative AI. Are we at that point?
I don't know. What I do know is that N.A.T.A.L.I.E. is delightful and funny every time she appears.
The show seems to be setting up a conversation about the nature of her identity and, in effect, her soul.
She's a seemingly perfect replica, but it's not clear yet whether the show wants us to take that as a good thing or not. Riri is freaked out by her.
But at the same time that Riri is so unsettled by her, we're also spending time getting to know N.A.T.A.L.I.E. and empathizing with her.
So the intended takeaway is unclear, which is probably by design. This is only episode 2, after all. The show probably won't make its final statement on N.A.T.A.L.I.E. until the end.
Speaking of unclear takeaways, welcome to Riri's life of crime!
This is Joe. A surprisingly large chunk of this episode is spent on Riri blackmailing and robbing him for the parts she needs for her suit.
This is a plot point that's going to be impossible to really form an opinion on until the series is over. Both because of its effect on Riri's character journey and for what Joe's is supposed to be. From the way it's presented here, Joe is basically Dopinder from Deadpool.
When we first meet him, he's a doormat.
His dipshit of a neighbor likes to bring her dog over to poop on his lawn, specifically, ever morning. Joe tries to confront her about it and she walks right over him because he doesn't have the confidence to press the issue.
But, while she's robbing him, Riri gives Joe a pep talk about stepping up to his shitty neighbor and also a coworker who's blackmailing him. And by the end of the episode, we see Joe take his revenge against his shitty neighbor by attacking her prized sunflowers with trimming shears.
Which he does in broad daylight for some reason? The worst time to do crime, especially in a place where people know who you are.
Not sure if we're going to see any more of Joe or not, but it's hard to really parse this plot point without knowing a) if he's coming back and b) where Riri is going in her own story.
Right now, Riri has embraced being part of the Hood's heist gang. She's on a crew with nonbinary hacker Slug.
As well as the Blood Siblings, who I can't tell if they're supposed to be based off the Blood Brothers or not.
And then Clown, who blows shit up real good.
She was setting her fiance's car on fire when they found her. We don't get to hear the context on why that was happening but I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. Your S.O. typically doesn't set your shit on fire without good cause.
Over in the other corner is the target of today's heist, Elon Musk.
This heist targets TNNL, which is basically Elon Musk's Boring Company. The Boring Company was Elon's solution to traffic: Private cars that run on a single-lane track underground to shuttle a single passenger from place to place.
This piece of shit is a really stupid system that funnels government funding away from public transit and clearly isn't designed for any form of mass movement of people. For obvious reasons, it would be impossible to move a hundred people in these things in anything approaching a reasonable timeframe.
They're a product of Elon just feeling grossed out by having other people present in the vehicle with him, and thus hating public transportation. Elon sees these single-passenger tunnel cars replacing buses and subways in the future and, for obvious reasons, that's a fucking stupid idea.
That is the real-world concept that fictional character Sheila Zarate is channeling for her part of this episode's plot. And I really hope they aren't expecting us to side with an Elon stand-in over a diverse gang of interesting and charismatic thieves.
Parker is dangerous and Riri's getting into something ugly. That much is to be sure.
We get some more elaboration on the Hood's titular red cloak. They are definitely going with the unambiguous demon route. By this point in the MCU, there's enough weird shit floating around that they can just drop stuff like that in there without having to worry about fitting in.
All the same, you notice those posters behind Riri that read "FAUST"? Yeah. That's not by accident. They are clearly playing with the idea of the Faustian Pact. Riri's involvement with Parker is, itself, a deal with the devil for the sake of getting her suit completed. But she's not the only one unknowingly making infernal bargains.
Parker's ultimate plan for the heist is to put Zarate in a compromising position, then force her to sign over contractual equity and privileges over TNNL and its highways. To what end? Unclear. But it plays to the demonic element of the story that his plan here involves signing a wicked contract. It's obvious where they're going with this character.
Think it's going to be Mephisto powering his cloak? Dormammu? Someone else? Who's to say. But a demonic presence is, at this point, indisputable.
So, all in all, I came out of this episode with a bit of trepidation about where they're going with some elements. But nonetheless excited to see more.

I'm a little late but I finally watched the last 3 episodes of Ironheart. So here's my thoughts, Ironheart spoilers ahead!
I just, I relate to Riri so much. All of ep4, when she was just stressing out over everything, feeling like everything is crashing down. Her struggling to show vulnerability even to the ones closest to her. When she and her mom were talking in front of the Stanton shop, and she was like, "If you don't want me to lie to you, then don't ask me these questions." Idk I feel so seen.
I think episode 5 has to be my favourite. Like, it made me such an emotional wreck. I was crying my eyes out over the garage scene. Riri is so relatable in the way that pushed her feelings down and suppressed memories so she doesn't have to deal with it. When N.A.T.A.L.I.E projected that memory of Riri and Gary in the garage, I was SOBBING. Sidetracking for a bit: the way even as a kid she always refused to rest is cute to me. But it was the way she didn't want to watch even though it was a happy memory because seeing it hurts. And i just idk 😭😭😭 sometimes you try so hard to never think about the past, you forget all of these important memories, like how N.A.T.A.L.I.E had to remind her that.
But I also really like Xavier's reaction to seeing N.A.T.A.L.I.E., I think it touches a little abt the ethics around AI. Which is an important conversation for the world we're living in rn unfortunately.
But still when N.A.T.A.L.I.E. died, everything happened so suddenly. And the pain of losing her twice made Riri more vulnerable to Mephisto's influence. Like, she didn't even wait for more than a minute after they powered up the suit, she immediately left to go to Hood. It was like "I'll deal with these feelings later" and then she just didn't get the chance to stew in her feelings because Mephisto immediately was there to persuade her into a deal.
I really like Riri choosing to agree with the deal. I think that makes her really such a complex and compelling character. Like, it would be typical if they make the whole "it's unethical to revive the dead" route because like that would be predictable right. Idk how they're gonna progress from this but if anything, I think they'd go with the "she came back wrong". Like, Natalie's death is known around the neighborhood right? She has a mural up and everything. Natalie isn't N.A.T.A.L.I.E. so she cannot be hidden and I doubt she would be content to stay inside. N.A.T.A.L.I.E.'s whole character was built on being someone Riri can rely on and someone she can ask for help from. Natalie isn't going to tie her entire being to Riri in the same way, even if she's Riri's best friend. So I think the complications of Natalie coming back to life would probably be a conflict point in the future? Idk?
Well, in conclusion, I really like the show. Will rewatch it like 20 times 🥰

J.A.R.V.I.S vs. N.A.T.A.L.I.E: Strengths and Weaknesses
Although public opinion is mixed when it comes to AI, it has long been a part of comic books before the use of it became prominent in today’s world. Within the Marvel universe exist several artificial intelligence characters, from Ultron to E.D.I.T.H. to H.E.R.B.I.E. As the popularity of this highly useful yet dangerous technology continues to evolve, it’s highly likely that even more AI…

“But isn’t there an interesting contrast here of like having a piece of tech try to imitate humanity, and now we’re having a human try to imitate technology?”
Quote from an episode discussion from The Break Room as I found it poignantly relevant. My two favourite characters, as I knew they would be. And the person I said I might ship with “Joe McGillicuddy” (you know a surname is fake when it is the television maiden name of Lucille Ball). Though I had my reservations about it going into the first half of the season knowing what “Natalie” is — never mind “WandaVision” was a whole-ass show about such a relationship/marriage.
And there are ramping parallels for them, particularly with each of them blackmailing Riri within five minutes. Riri herself at least jokingly noting the overall comparison between them (“He’s just like you!”) when she and N.A.T.A.L.I.E. were having their first outing. …which neatly segued into Natalie’s Sean Porter anecdote, like what? So I do not think I am completely delulu here at least this time.
The one thing though that would render it as “it’s a non-starter” — to quote Joe in a different context — is how much younger than Riri potentially is Natalie. So maybe in some AU in which Natalie Washington never died and instead got to grow along with her best friend. As far as actual canon, I just need to see them meet in the second half of the season. Preferably in a team-up to save their mutual friend. But on principle shipping the son of Obadiah Stane with an AI ghost makes all the sense to me so otherwise no regrets.
#Zeke x N.A.T.A.L.I.E.#saving this to ship tags to file away my absurdity#Ezekiel Stane x Natalie Washington#Ezekiel x Natalie#Joe McGillicuddy x Natalie Washington#Joe x Natalie

Just finished the three first episodes of Ironheart and it was - actually very good. I didn't like Riri in Wakanda Forever and some of the Marvel TV series have been not that great from the mediocrity of Echo to something outright bad like She-Hulk so I went to this with basically no expectations and so far I am pleased. Can't wait for rest of the series and I just really hope they don't fumble the ending like with a lot of promising shows than either rushed/fell flat on the finale. I especially love N.A.T.A.L.I.E as the AI, I feel like they made a good twist with her so it doesn't feel like too similar to JARVIS or FRIDAY.

Minding my business, watching Ironheart, when what/who pops up?
Also, the Hank and Pym Tech shout outs were cool.
Anyway. I'm really digging the show so far. I love the Hood's gang, especially Slug. N.A.T.A.L.I.E. is fantastic. Love how they've done the flashbacks. The emotional and dramatic stuff is well done. There's a character reveal that caught me completely off guard. My main exposure to the Hood is from Marvel Puzzle Quest, so I'm intrigue about whatever his deal is. I love that Riri basically accidentally made an AI from her memories of her best friend. Kinda like WV, but with technology instead of magic, which is neat.
So, yeah. We'll see if I think of anything else. I'll try not to spam too, too much, lol. Besides, I gotta be careful searching for stuff about it, because the usual suspects are fucking awful about it and I just don't wanna see or deal with that shit.
