I used to be really freaked out by the city cemetery to the point I wouldn't even walk past during the day because I would hear Things in there, and loud too.

Putting this here to avoid clogging up today one post, and in screenshots because I'm on my phone and can't copy and paste tags.

I know where you're coming from but it's just not true. Everything I love or enjoy doing has to be hidden around an authority figure, or forsaken. Every movie I've watched and enjoyed, every game I've played, every hobby I've engaged in - I've done them when I'm single or when no authority figure was around. If God was to require me to marry again, it would mean giving up everything I enjoy in order to serve my husband. And I'm too selfish to want to give up my knitting and the books I read. Again.

That is. Quite possibly. The most heartbreaking, trauma filled, definitely not Godly thing I've ever heard. When God blesses you with a new spouse (in this life or the next), your husband will delight in your hobbies. He will ask you to knit for him. He will take you to bookstores. And that is how you will know that you are supposed to marry him. Because before he asks you to be his neck — his nephesh, his whole being, his very soul — he will make it clear to you that he wants all of you, and that includes your hobbies and talents. I feel like the predominant narrative in the spiritual therian and otherkind community is that of neopagans or spiritual atheists, most of whom are culturally Christian. I’d love for there to be more conversation about and between spiritual Jews in the community, especially among those of us whose identities are influenced by our Jewish spirituality.

I want it to be more known among the ‘kin community, and in particular the spiritual side of it, that Jewish culture and spirituality can coexist with nonhuman identity. There seems to be a mindset that the only spiritual beliefs that allow for these identities are pagan ones.

So I’ve coined a term for us. If you are otherkind, therian, or otherwise alterhuman and feel that your identity is, at least in part, influenced by Jewish spirituality, theology or philosophy, here’s something I came up with to use to talk about it: nephesh mavar. “Nephesh” is Hebrew for “soul” and “mavar” translates to “beyond,” so the term would mean “soul beyond,” or a soul that is beyond human. Switch the order of the words, and “mavar nephesh” means “transcendence.”

My idea here is to use this as a tag for posts that are discussions about Jewish otherkinity, therianthropy, any kind of alterhumanity really, and maybe this will shed light on our place in the community and be something we can use with pride.
