I think what some people overlook when it comes to non-binary representation, but that Good Omens has managed to nail on the head (as usual), is how often we see afab nbs being masculine (short hair, gender neutral/male clothes etc.) and amab nbs being feminine (long hair, feminine characteristics etc.).

And that's just... I don't want to say wrong because it's not, but it's just so telling of how they still see that person as their agab.

What I mean by that is, if someone only accepts afab nb people when they're nonconforming or should I say deviating from their agab, then they still view them as women. The same goes for amab nb people. If someone expects gender nonconformity from them and a more feminine expression, then at a basic level, they still view them as men. And yes, there's been that discussion about trans people not being required to perform and how stereotypes are harmful, but I mean this on a more psychological/ingrained level. (That's why I'm mentioning afab and amab so much (sorry))

And Good Omens absolutely knocks it out of the park with this. Not only does it say a giant fuck you to gender expectations for nb beings, but it has such a diverse range of identities represented. Muriel, an afab nb person who dresses feminine. Beelzebub an afab nb person who presents masculine. Andrew, an amab nb person who presents feminine. Aziraphale, an amab nb person who presents masculine. Crowley, an amab nb person who is somehow every single one of these combined. (I know none of them are humans. I'm speaking about how they are perceived by the audience)

When someone only views nb people as afab=must present masculine and amab=must present feminine, then all they're doing is saying they still view nb individuals as their agab, because if they didn't tie nb people's agab to their personalities then them presenting as their agab would have no influence on a person's perspective of their identity. Nb people deserve to present as their agab without their identity being invalidated or them being viewed as cis.

Anytime I see NB representation in the media, and even with my irl friends, (whom I love mwah mwah) it’s always portrayed as either fully androgynous or slightly masculine and it’s always made me feel a little bit isolated cause I went in the complete opposite direction and just became a femboy instead 💅💅

I love being feminine, always felt uncomfortable in it before I knew I was trans but now I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! Plus I hate the feeling of pants so skirts, dresses and shorts galore!! Only problem with it that I find is that I get misgendered a lot more often than my more masculine or androgynous peers which I assume is because of the portrayal reason I stated above, hell the only example of a feminine non-binary person in media I can think of is G3 Frankie sjkdkskfd- This also applies to my sona too 😞😞😞 but I don’t got the energy to correct people online whenever they misgender me so oh well

btw terfs need to leave dianic Wicca alone. Like Wicca (at least in my tradition) is literally based on the idea that one infinite genderless being is split into male and female avatars. Even if you’re just in it for the Goddess, her origins are deeply connected to transfems based on how we perceive them both.

In the show, we have a new pink-haired Firelight character (Eve), who exists to trigger Jinx and upset Ekko. I'm sure all these similarities, down to the mustard yellow and brown, are pure coincidence. There's no way they set out to make a show with queer representation, had a canonically non-binary human character right there, and whitewashed them into a Violet knockoff.

Okay but coincidences do happen. Maybe they never even looked at any LoL Firelights for inspiration except Ekko. Surely there isn't a black-haired Chirean with side bag, patchwork clothes, arm wrap, bat ears, and a round-eyed mask with slits around the mouth.

while I always appreciate seeing non binary characters in games, it's always so funny to me when other characters in universe just, magically know their pronouns, when they really shouldn't lol

they introduced a nb character in xenoblade 3, and everyone is immediately refering to them by singular they/them pronouns, when they never really did the same for other characters unless referring to a person clad in armor (which said character isn't, you can easily see what they look like) or in a similar situation where they can't reasonably assume their gender/pronouns

I guess it's better than said character being misgendered in an annoying way, but the fact that so many fictional characters have a functional non binary radar is still something I'm endlessly amused by

- They have a rule that any time they go grocery shopping or run errands, Eggs is entitled to being brought a lil treat from the store, too. It’s only fair!

- They keep a list of dates they want to take Gem on in their notes app. It’s password protected, just incase Gem stumbles across it. Can’t have any surprises be spoiled hehe

- Ellis can appreciate Kindles and other reading tablets for their uses, but they’ll eat a bowl of staples for breakfast before they willingly choose that over an actual book with actual pages. That book smell is just too… booky… to pass up

- Jewelry lover! Necklaces, rings, bracelets— doesn’t matter. Adds to their ✨whimsy✨

- They’ve gotten pretty skilled in making their own jewelry, too. It was a trick born from boredom that they picked up while things were slow at the bookshop, bending paper clips into fun shapes to pass the time. Soon enough, it then turned into a full-blown hobby once they invested in getting the proper supplies and whatnot. They hand-make Gem, Cyril, their grandmother, and other loved ones something for their birthdays each year <3

- If you dog-ear/fold the corner of a book’s page around them, you better sleep with one. eye. open.
