One thing I do think is interesting about Jax as a character is that, IIRC, he has never actually said a swear word- even at his most stressed out with the maid dress the furthest he managed to get was "Heck". So that kind of leads me to think of two possibilities: 1. Despite his desires to maim, murder, and roleplay international terrorism, Jax is enough of a dork to draw the line at profanity.

2. You know how in the new preview it's pointed out Caine can say "ass" uncensored? Jax also dropping an uncensored "ass" while he's in a soundproof room with someone who can connect the dots and a loaded gun.

by the way despite not thinking npc jax would be real, i have to remind y'all that ragatha said "oh you already got one" to pomni bout rooms, which means that they do not immediately get room when they enter and sometimes they can wait longer for room.

which means the reason why he got a room can be just because he asked caine to do and caine probably just thought(?) he forgot and made if he is npc

NEW AU TIIIME ~

I think the theories of Jax are an interesting idea for an au... so here's my take! And @cherriisodapop 's cuz she is really helping me along with this

Some info ive scrambled up about him below cut !!

○ Jax is an NPC from a discontinued map dubbed "Chaos Land". He grew up there with his mom and dad, whom of which are a rubber bunny and plushy badger.

○ He's known he was an NPC since a young age. While exploring he found himself glitched beneath the map, finding the models of everyone he knows. Being a child however, he dismisses it, and grows up assuming it's normal. He hardly thought back on it anyway, much too busy with life above.

○ On an adventure where Kaufmo runs into Jax and they're glitched below the map, Kaufmo makes a comment about Jax's general disinterest in the models. Jax explains they don't matter, to which Kaufmo ends up explaining they do. This causes Jax to spiral, because now he knows the truth of the matter. He is not human, but Kaufmo and the others who came on the adventure are.

○ as an almost parallel of Pomni and Gummigoo's scene, Kaufmo suggests he come along to the circus with him. They make a plan to fake Jax's arrival as a human so Caine isn't aware that he is an NPC.

○ Kaufmo and Jax work together to fuck with coding and create a room for Jax at the very end of the hallway of dorms. It captures a very small segment of his home realm. Anyone human who nears it gets this overwhelming feeling of wrongness. He never lets anyone in.

○ he has some features left over from his home, one of which being the ability to pull small things out of thin air. Out of fear of suspicion, he pretends to pull these small objects from his overalls pocket. Another being how he does things in a very,, "wrong" way. Example being in the drawing how he's eating the banana (shame on him for that btw).... kaufmo teaches him ways to be more human, but old habits die hard.

○ he thrives on causing chaos in the circus, pranking and bullying others to get their reactions. He's curious, wanting to know how humans react to things that he finds funny or normal. Human nature and their reactions to just about anything intrigue his curiosity, though he's skilled at hiding this through snide comments and teasing.

○ after Kaufmo's abstraction, he finds himself frustrated. He believes he cannot truely experience what it is to mourn his only friend in the circus, and so he's more prone to unstable moods and outburts.

○ events are very much canon-compliant for both pilot and episode two! after that is still a WIP!

Also, as many people have been pointing out, Jax was really upset when there wasn’t any violence. This could either be the fact that he just.. likes violence.. or (the one that proves my theory), since this is about him being an NPC, that would make him from an adventure, and maybe the reason he craves violence so much and does something that led everyone to believe him to be getting angst in this episode, along with getting the most villain-arc looking shot towards the end, this might be because he was a villain in that adventure that he was from. Or he was supposed to be violent or it happened after he became self aware. Or I’m reading way too far into this.

Also in the pilot he just kinda.. teleported? I don’t know but it doesn’t seem like any of the other cast can do that, other than Caine, who isn’t a human. So yeah. @skekilla made the points below

Another point is that Jax breaks the fourth wall by looking at the ‘camera’, and referring to pomni as “a new character”. I also might be reading too far into this but it’s something that just... due to goose confirming that there’s a lot of symbolism, I don’t think they’d do that for no reason. Plus how he said “another one of your NPC’s” which is strange, because NPC’s aren’t allowed in the circus, and so there aren’t any. Maybe, if he is one, he thought that they were allowed in the circus .

as I said in a post saying I would make this, I said I like this theory because of the angst potential. also because I had an au about it in November that I never posted about and I just got excited when I saw people theorizing about that.

I've been thinking a lot about the 'jax is an npc' theory recently and I've seen a couple things about it so far. They mostly involve the others finding his spare model under the map or him slipping up and saying 'you humans' or something like that.

But I have a different idea.

Picture this: they escape. The humans somehow crash the game and get their souls out of the computer or whatever and they all wake up in some kind of game room in the real world. 'All' includes the ones who were abstracted before, Kaufmo, Queenie, everyone. They're reunited with their real bodies and with each other, there's lots of crying and hugging and reintroducing themselves. They learn each other's real names and marvel at the fact that they're still alive and they made it out. It's really sweet.

Then there's a lull in the conversation, and someone (maybe Gangle) asks, very quietly:

"Where's Jax?"

so now that more theories are out here’s some theories I wanted to mash together for something.

so @pixelated-moon made a post mentioning how the normal npcs in the circus are marionettes, which could imply that they can “wear” the avatar skins like they are premade and the npcs simply wear them and act out the role they are coded.

but how does this connect to Jax being an NPC? If a NPC pretended to be him real Jax would know. Well,

This theory by @stardust948 gave me an idea that

-Caine accidentally kills real Jax and doesn’t know

-a Marionette NPC finds a way to wear the Jax model

-he blends in with the rest of the cast

this is how Jax has a door despite being an NPC. Caine just didn’t get a chance to mark Jax as dead and so the NPC replaced him and just made Caine think he was human.

I think this would make sense and I think it’s pretty fun. That’s all. Thank you to both of these people great theories!!

People are knives out about folks who like the idea of NPC Jax, for some reason- Like the posts l've seen about how much people HATE this theory, and hate the people who like it- the amount of stuff I've seen making fun of this theory, or teasing the people. I don't like it. I understand, people are entitled to their opinions- but you also, then, have to respect the opinions of the people who liked this theory. Is there much merit to it? Not really. Did Gooseworx, (I think), publicly state that Jax is not an NPC? Yes. But who cares, and why do you care so much? He's a fictional character, and, at the end of the day, sometimes / do like to think of Jax as an NPC, because the character I fell "in love" with, is the digital avatar! I don't simp for human characters typically, and I personally don't really care that he's a human on the other side.

I'm not in the crossfire of any of the shipping wars, in this fandom (thankfully), but can we also cool it with the shitting on people's theories and concepts, too? It's not that serious. Let's all just have fun here.

I’m starting to believe the idea of Jax being an NPC or a somewhat hacker.

If you look at the merch websites pins and animatez that are out you can see where everyone ‘sleeps’ or ‘lives’ ig(example: Pomni and her room, Kinger and the pillow fort, Caine and the stage, etc.) but Jax isn’t in a room

Also his pin holder is the only one ‘ripped’ and showing the void. Please someone tell me if I’m onto something or on something

Despite theorywriting on it, I don’t really believe Jax is an NPC bc 1) I just instinctually feel like he’s not idk and 2) I think it’s just objectively funnier for him to be just a guy. Who sucks. Especially with the like fan back and forth on him. I think the funniest possible pay off of all of that is him just being. Like that.
