What have I been up to? Well more or less more optics.

I started to learn about the Index Ellipsoid, and I am beginning to understand how we can quantify a materials allowed polarizations using the "indicatrix" (not going to lie this is a hard word to spell lol)

I now understand that there are two possible electric flux densities (basically the quadratic equations +/- gives two roots, so when you solve for two possible refractive indices, you also get two D solutions) and that these two fluxes are orthogonal.

The index Ellipsoid let's us characterize anisotropic crystals into biaxial (two defined optical axes) and uniaxial (two axes are equal)

But honestly, I'm hitting a bit of a wall here. I just want to be familiar with the material before grad school starts. Since I'm self studying now, I decided to venture off into a related topic: Computational electromagnetics!!

I took numerical methods this winter so when I heard about Finite Difference Method I didn't look like a 🦌 staring at 🚗 lol (honestly I find Runge-Kutta methods scarier haha)

So I learned a bit about collocated grids, recalled Dirichlet boundary conditions, periodic boundary conditions as well as Neuman boundary conditions.

My plan is to use COMSOL multi physics to do a little simulation for my masters thesis, so I'm betting that having a grasp on the numerical side of emag is something I need to accomplish to bear fruitful results.

And of course I get hit with the realization exactly *why* plane waves are used to teach us optics: because they are simply a stepping stone towards us learning about Gaussian Beams!

My takes on the Wof tribes!!

Skywings: Fast efficient hunters of mountain terrain. They have a much higher stomach acidity, allowing them to digest bone and neutralize bacteria that would be dangerous to other tribes. Wings claws have hooked talons to make it easier to cling to sheer rock faces (or the palace walls even), where they sometimes like to sleep. Pupils are round, and there's a ring of bone that keeps the eyes sharp and prevents shape warping with age. Fastest fliers, but not the longest fliers.

Icewings: A combination of cute and elegance, soft and sharpness. Wide spread paws to disperse weight on snow, with thick hollow fur that traps in heat. Horns are some of the most decorative, used for display or battle. Fur color can range between pure white, or even mottled darker greys to blend in with the taiga forest of their lower territory. They have good endurance and extremely keen senses, as well as a built in tolerance to excessive light.

Nightwings: Steathy both in air and on land. Paws are adapted specifically to be silent, as they are ambush hunters. Eyes have the strongest night vision of any tribe, but can be sensitive to daylight. Wing feathers are fringed for silent flight, as well as the tail fans and tip. Fur is lightweight but warm, as they were originally built to live in the tundra forests between the Ice Kingdom and Sand Kingdom. Very long canine teeth, they like to haul prey up into trees to eat.

Sandwings: Long- legged and extremely opportunistic. They use a mixture of fur and scales to keep cool air in and warm air out, which is used also to keep the warmth in for the cool nights. Paw pads are thickly furred to create a barrier between skin and hot sand. Despite being efficient fliers, a lot of Sandwings prefer to chase their prey on foot, a task aided by their long legs and tail. Wings are the longest of all the tribes, broad in shape and used for soaring on thermal currents when the ground is too hot.

Mudwings: Semi-aquatic, with an incredible bite force. Their frills are surprisingly thick and sturdy, able to huld up well against bites or piercing. Paws and wing claws are both webbed for movement in water. Their wings are similar to Rainwings, being broad and eliptical, but lean more towards heron wings than that of a harpy eagle. Can hold their breath for up to an hour, and host many whiskers to feel for prey in murky water. Lips have small dotted pores that pick up electromagnetic currents for this same purpose. Bite force is one to be reckoned with.

Seawings: Heavily adapted to water, but still surprisingly efficient on land. Their running speed is still just as good as other tribes, even a little on the fast end. Their head and body are all streamlined, skin covered in tiny toothlike scales to keep them sturdy yet swift. Numerous fins, with two on either side for stability and steering, and a powerful fluked tail. Wings are considerably flexible as they close nearly flush to the body when swimming.

Rainwings: Masters of camoflauge and color. Frills on the back, neck, and tail are all very thin, with moveable spines connecting them. These frills are moved in a natural wave formation to mimic shifting leaves while hiding. Their paws and wing claws are nimble yet deceptively strong, the hooks are able to support nearly the entire weight of the dragon. They have both sensory whiskers and modified whiskers for decoration, as well as heat pits to detect other lifeforms. With this, hiding rainwings can lower their temperature to not be found. Colors are usually only for decoration or camo, so it's common to see lots of contrast and variety in the villages.

very basic day, i gotta revise all 14 chapters of physics cuz tmr’s my final 🥲 but yay, i started at 12 and finished revising 4 chapters (questions + derivations and notes) so pretty happy about how much i got done, it’s gonna be a long night again (when is it not) but i really hope my exam goes well tmr (cbse physics paper reactions scared me)

there’s also a rumour that i could have my math board re exam cuz the paper got leaked (😭😭😭) i might actually cry if that happens cuz math is genuinely my weakest subject, tho it’s fun, i really can’t bring myself to study that subject again.

Skinwalker Ranch, a remote property in northeastern Utah, has become one of the most infamous and mysterious sites of alleged paranormal activity in the United States. Spanning approximately 512 acres, the ranch has been the focus of countless stories involving UFO sightings, strange creatures, poltergeist-like phenomena, and unexplained cattle mutilations. For decades, it has attracted the attention of scientists, researchers, and enthusiasts of the unexplained, earning its place as a central figure in the lore of the paranormal.

The ranch's name is derived from the Navajo legend of the skinwalker, a malevolent witch capable of transforming into, possessing, or disguising themselves as an animal. According to Navajo folklore, skinwalkers are dangerous beings that use their shape-shifting abilities to cause harm and spread fear. The Ute tribe, who reside in the region, have long spoken of the land where the ranch is located as being cursed and avoid it whenever possible. The Utes believe that the Navajo sent skinwalkers to curse the Utes after a conflict between the two tribes, and that these entities continue to inhabit the area to this day.

The ranch first gained widespread attention in the 1990s when Terry and Gwen Sherman purchased the property in 1994. The Shermans quickly began experiencing strange and terrifying events. They reported seeing large, wolf-like creatures that were unaffected by bullets, mysterious lights in the sky, and crop circles appearing overnight. Perhaps most disturbingly, they encountered instances of cattle mutilations, with several of their livestock found dead and mutilated in ways that defied explanation—often with precise, surgical cuts and no blood at the scene.

The Shermans also described poltergeist-like activities within their home, such as objects moving on their own, strange voices, and even the sudden appearance of unfamiliar and disorienting odors. Despite their initial skepticism, the sheer volume and intensity of these experiences led the family to believe that something supernatural was at play. After only 18 months, the Shermans sold the ranch.

In 1996, Robert Bigelow, a billionaire businessman with a keen interest in the paranormal, purchased Skinwalker Ranch. Bigelow founded the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), a research organization dedicated to investigating paranormal phenomena. Bigelow's team of scientists, including physicists, biologists, and other experts, spent years studying the ranch in an attempt to uncover the truth behind the strange occurrences.

Despite employing sophisticated equipment and extensive surveillance, the NIDS team was often frustrated in their efforts to capture definitive evidence. The phenomena were elusive, frequently occurring just out of view or in ways that defied scientific analysis. Nevertheless, the team documented numerous instances of high strangeness, including bizarre animal sightings, unusual electromagnetic readings, and unexplained lights and aerial phenomena. The ranch seemed to be a hotspot for what many called a "paranormal stew," with a wide range of inexplicable events occurring simultaneously.

Over the years, numerous theories have been proposed to explain the mysteries of Skinwalker Ranch. Some suggest that the area is a portal or vortex to another dimension, where entities and phenomena from other realities bleed into our own. HOW DO WE KNOW HOW THE MILKY WAY LOOKS LIKE??

This is the spiral galaxy NGC 2835, imaged by the impeccable, seemingly timeless Hubble Space Telescope.

And this is NGC 1132, an elliptical galaxy captured through the tandem efforts of Hubble and NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory.

We know what both of these breathtakingly beautiful galaxies look like because we can see them from afar. How then do we know what our own Milky Way galaxy looks like, seeing as how we are inside it?

While we've never been able to zoom out and take a true galactic selfie, there are numerous observations that clue us in to the structure of our home galaxy. The greatest hint comes from looking at other galaxies. While there are perhaps two trillion in our observable universe, surprisingly, they only seem to come in three discernable varieties: spiral, elliptical, and irregular.

Spiral galaxies have a mostly flat disk with a bright central bulge and arms that swirl out from the middle. Elliptical galaxies tend to be round or oval with a uniform distribution of stars. Irregular galaxies are like stellar splotches in space, with little structure at all.

Gazing skyward from our vantage point on and around Earth, there are clear signs that the Milky Way is a spiral galaxy. You can see one sign with the naked eye! The Milky Way appears in our sky as a relatively flat disk.

Using more sophisticated methods, astrophysicists and astronomers have provided two more clues to the structure of the Milky Way.

"When we measure velocities of stars and gas in our galaxy, we see an overall rotational motion that differs from random motions," Sarah Slater, a graduate student in cosmology at Harvard University, wrote. "This is another characteristic of a spiral galaxy."

Moreover the gas proportions, colors, and dust content are similar to other spiral galaxies, she added.

Aside from these lines of evidence, astronomers are also using their tools in ingenious ways to map the structure of the Milky Way. Just this year, scientists used two radio astronomy projects from different parts of the globe to measure the parallaxes – differences in the apparent positions of objects viewed along two different lines of sight – from masers shooting off electromagnetic radiation in numerous massive star forming regions in our galaxy.

"These parallaxes allow us to directly measure the forms of spiral arms across roughly one-third of the Milky Way, and we have extended the spiral arm traces into the portion of the Milky Way seen from the Southern Hemisphere using tangencies along some arms based on carbon monoxide emission," the researchers explained. They coupled these observations with other gathered data points to construct a new image of the Milky Way. This is our home galaxy, in all its resplendant glory.

This stuff going around about highly specialized forms of DID alter programming (such as flower programming, jewel programming, delta programming, etc.) comes from conspiracy theories promoted by Fritz Springmeier (a self-proclaimed deprogrammer) and Cisco Wheeler (the alleged Monarch slave he claims he deprogrammed). They published three books - They Know Not What They Do: Illustrated Guide to Monarch Control (published 1995), The Illuminati Formula Used To Create A Total Undetectable Mind-Controlled Slave (1996), and Deeper Insights Into The Illuminati Formula (1997).

They claimed that Project Monarch was practiced by the none other than the Illuminati! Here are some quotes from The Illuminati Formula:

…ah, you wanted to know about my radio arrays. I don’t actually use them for communication! My rooftop radio dishes, as well as the larger ones located on the ground, are primarily used for astronomical data collection, particularly within the radio portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. The dishes are able to detect very faint signals emitted by faraway celestial objects.

My largest radio dishes are actually located in the radio shadow of the mountain on which I stand, to reduce interference. The majority of my receivers and transmitters are concentrated on the opposite side of the mountain, and are angled to connect to the nearest long-range radio spire.

In theory I could use my radio astronomy equipment to receive distant transmissions, but it would require some recalibration… though, given the state of global communications, it may become necessary soon…

Cursedtober Day 3: Sweets @valleyian

Note: This is kind of a sneak peek for the dark lord Albus au

The last time Albus ate sweets was the day he turned six.

The day was glorious. His mum and dad had threw a party, inviting his ginormous family and his godfather Neville. Raucous laughter could be heard in the house as the older cousins chased each other in the hall. Lily and Hugo, who were both merely 3, giggled as they colored goblins on Teddy's history of magic textbook with crayons, their clothes slowing turning increasingly colorful. Rose proudly showed off her magic to the adults, levitating a cup of James' orange juice(a squak of outrage could be heard in the corner). Teddy tried to remain stern at all the cousins' antics but couldn't hold back a smile.

When it was time to cut the cake(which was sugar free due to Ginny's ban), everyone sang Happy Birthday and Albus blew out his candles. He felt over the moon since he was older and to all little kids, 6 is the age you become a big kid.

But the moment which made Albus cherish the day for years to come was after the party ended and all the guests filed away. He was lounging on the sofa, sorting the various presents gifted to him, when Harry plopped down next to him holding a particularly large chocolate frog. Albus quizzically looked at his dad and Harry shushed him.

"Hermione gave this to me," Harry said in a hushed voice. "Today's a big day so maybe we can bend a few of your mum's rules."

He put a finger to his lips. "It'll be our secret okay Al?"

Albus who usually despised being called Al couldn't care less now as his eyes greedily took in the sight of the brown chocolatey goodness presented upon him. With a speed of an electromagnetic wave*, he snatched the frog from his dad's open hand and started to devour it.

If you asked Albus about that moment now, he would say that he still clearly remembered the overpowering sweetness similar to that of honey. He would reminisce about how the chocolate seemed to melt in his mouth and how he detected traces of caramel. And how just before he swallowed the chocolate, he could taste a slight amount of bitterness that somehow enhanced the chocolate.

If he had known that this was the last time he ever have a sweet, he would've savored it for a longer time so he could remember it in the future even though he already memorized the taste.

In another universe, when he was 11, he would've met a boy with an addiction of sweets. They would've bonded over sweets and become the best of friends. In another universe, Albus would feel the taste of chocolate every day as his friend would receive numerous of care packages by his parents. The two friends would've went through numerous adventures and fallen in love with each other. In another universe, after many years, Albus would have been on his knees, a hand holding up a velvet box, as he said the words, "I once stayed for your sweets. Now I want to stay for you. Could you be my forever?"

But this wasn't another universe.

Albus' potential lover was being homeschooled by his parents for his safety so Albus had to deal with the struggles of school by himself, being severely bullied and friendless. But that didn't bother him. His main goal for years wasn't to be popular. Oh no it wasn't.

It was to recreate the amazing taste that he experienced when he was six.

P. S. I know it ain't that good but it was the end of the day when I remembered about Cursedtober so I was in a rush.

This song depicts a sort of interplay between the speaker's dreamlike innerworld & perception in contrast to the strange reality they find themselves in. The song also discusses the great joys & wisdom of experiencing things in the world & the mysteriousness of knowledge. The singer leaves their body & enters, not the real world, but another fantastical world through their daydreaming fantasy. There's a distinct throughline of engaging with Hiro's weak physical condition, & her dissociation from that within this song. "Mekurume" is translated here as The Sublime which is an Ancient Greek philosophic term (Popularized in Modern Literary Criticism by Emanuel Kant) which describes when things are so vast & beyond human perception that they are overwhelmingly dazzling. Manticore LLC is a major medical technology company. Publicly, they are most known for their artificial organs and limb prosthesis as well as several other medical devices and equipment used in hospitals worldwide. Less widely publicized are their numerous military contracts, developing cutting edge medical treatment technologies but also advanced weapons, drones, and other offensive hardware.

Nanoderm

The scientific breakthrough that lead Manticore to dominate in the field of med-tech is the invention of micro-sensors that are capable of reading brain signals in the nervous system and translating them into data a computer can interpret with absolute precision. These microscopic sensors can be integrated into programmable nanomachines that interlock in a mesh that forms durable skin-like material called Nanoderm.  If an exposed section of human tissue is covered in Nanoderm and then allowed to heal, the Nanoderm will become integrated with the tissue like a layer of natural skin. Any impulses or signals sent by the brain to that part of the body will be received by the Nanoderm and translated into data. That data can then be read as motor commands by a Manticore prosthesis. Basic prosthesis models can receive this data via magnetic nodes embedded in the surface of the Nanoderm but more advanced models, capable of finer dexterity/expanded functionality, require a “bone spike,” a rod-like data plug that interfaces with a port in the Nanoderm area that is connected to more advanced sensors. The socket and sensor hardware is imbedded in the body through a surgical procedure.

The catch with the Nanoderm system is it must be applied to the body before the exposed tissue heals over and the exposed nerve endings have a chance to close off, or in other words, while the wound is “fresh”, otherwise the healed tissue must be cut away and a fresh wound made. This means that in emergency situations a patient or their next of kin must make a snap decision to undergo the expensive Nanoderm compatibility surgery as part of their emergency treatment. Of course some insurance plans will cover some or all of this cost. Additionally Manticore has deals with some insurance providers that the surgery come standard with higher end coverage plans, forgoing the need for patient consent. Remote Command (RC)

Manticore is a sprawling corporation with many secrets. One such secret is the Remote Command program. A project Manticore has been working on behind closed doors, the Remote Command program involves research into sending brain signals over great distances without a physical connection between the sensor and the receiving devise. With RC a person could control a prosthetic arm in another part of the world as though it were part of their body. This is achieved by broadcasting the impulses across a proprietary electromagnetic wave length to the receiving nodes. The signal travels point to point and back again at light speed. The potential RC has for the future of drone warfare is staggering, not to mention the potential for profit.

Sensitive as this information is, there’s another layer. All Nanoderm currently in use by people around the world is capable of receiving Remote Command. In some cases necessity dictates that Spec-Sec operations serve as ad hoc field tests for experimental equipment.

Core Drivers, Data Boosters, and the Kamen Rider program

The Core Driver is a piece of technology that was developed as part of research into the use of Nanoderm to enhance a soldier’s physical performance on the battlefield. The concept was to temporarily cover the user’s entire body in a layer of Nanoderm mesh that could respond to the signals from the user’s brain in such a way that would increase their strength, speed, perception, and reflexes. The solution was the Core Driver, a device that would house the billions of Nanoderm nanomachines and serve as the computational core for the whole mesh network. Along with the Core Driver was the Data Booster, a flash drive-like device shaped like a syringe. The data booster contained the information that told the nanomachines to deploy from the Core Driver and cover the user. Additionally the Booster came with its own payload of nanomachines that, when the plunger of the syringe was depressed, would also be deployed through the Core Diver and take the form of armor and weapons. Basically, a user need only insert the Data Booster into the Core Diver, clearly speak a voice authentication phrase, and depress the plunger and they would instantly be wearing a powerful yet flexible armored body suit. The project was called the “Kamen Rider program” after the masked visage of the user’s armored faceplate (“Kamen” being the Japanese word for “mask”).

The Project had its drawbacks, however. For one a user would need to already be Nanoderm compatible for the suit to work at all, meaning, practically speaking, the user would need to be an amputee, and the prospect of convincing soldiers to sacrifice a limb to use the Driver was deemed a “hard sell” and the idea of a approaching a freshly maimed soldier with the offer of further combat, well, that wouldn’t be a good look either. The second and most important drawback was the simple fact that the Kamen Rider program was far, FAR too expensive to be profitable, and the thousands of man hours it took to produce just one Core Driver meant mass producing them to sell by the battalion, as Manticore had planned, was simply out of the question.

The Kamen Rider Program was not completely abandoned, however. The first completed Core Driver, designation SVR (Special Versatility Rider model or “Sever” colloquially) is currently coded to Director Sloane of Spec-Sec, who happens to be a double transfemeral amputee. With the Director���s input, the device and the suit itself have been modified heavily over its years of use. It now features the ability for additional Data Boosters to be employed, loaded with weapons and tools in the form of appendages that attach to highly advanced versions of Bone Spike sockets on the suit at the amputation sites of the Rider’s body. The nerve signal enhancing properties of the suit allows the Rider to manipulate these complex, non-human-like appendages with a natural ease and minimal adjustment period.

A second Core Driver has just recently been put to use in the field at Spec-Sec. The first Kamen Rider designed from the ground up with Spec-Sec modifications. Designation NRV (Neo Rider Variant or “Nerve” colloquially) is encoded to the Division’s newest member, Special Officer Nat Agbayani. A right shoulder disarticulation amputee, he was promoted to the Special Security Division from the internship program in the research wing by the COO of Manticore himself… wait what? That can’t be right…

The existence of any other Core Drivers, in use or otherwise, is classified.

Profiles in Villainy 

Machine Head 

A cyborg of unknown origins, Machine Head is a ruthless gangster and criminal kingpin who runs numerous drug trafficking and protection rackets throughout Chicago.   He recruited the naive powerhouse known as Titan to steal for him a special microchip.  This microchip contained a powerful probability algorithm that Machine Head used to predict the future with great accuracy.  This prognosticatory ability enabled Machine Head to not only keep Titan under his thumb but further consolidate power and influence throughout the city.

Some time thereafter, Titan was aided by the young hero, Invincible, in a plan to take Machine Head down.  Unfortunately, the robotic gangster was able to predict the attack and was prepared, hiring Battle Beast and Magmaniac so to defeat the heroes’ plan.  

Although he succeeded in fending off Invincible, Machine Head’s actions garnered the attention of more well-equipped heroes.  Ultimately, the Global Defense Agency utilized a powerful electromagnetic pulse to fry the circuitry of the probability chip, thus disabling the gangster’s future-predicting powers.  He was quickly apprehended and incarcerated.  

Actor Jeffery Donavan provided the voice for Machine Head, with the villain first appearing in the fifth episode of the animated series Invincible, airing on April 9th, 2021
