Clement's sitting on a chair by Clarette's bedside with his hand over the flickering pulse in her wrist, feeling it gradually strengthening, returning to baseline. She starts to stir.

"Hey. Good to see you looking lively. You need anything? Sip of blood?"

Clarette nods mutely. She looks anything but lively. Her dress is rumpled from struggling earlier. She manages to sip from the bag Clement hands her, but not without shaking. "What did you decide to do? Did you kill him for me?" That's the first thing she asks. Quietly.

Clement frowns. "I'm afraid not. Not in the habit of killing folks without so much as asking for their name first."

That's an attitude that doesn't get far in the world of kindred. But so be it. "His name is Rosaire. And Rosalee. Monsieur ou mademoiselle Rivest." She looks far away, almost nostalgic. Her initial frenzy, leading Clement to make use of to that sedative, has worn off and now she's just so tired. "Formerly Arsenault," she adds, almost inaudible now.

"Wait...you don't mean that shriveled prune in there is your divorcee?"

"I've had many weddings, Clement. Don't look so surprised. You're young. Your unlife will bring you comings and goings I'm sure." Another sip of blood, and then she puts her head in her hands, her black curls sweeping forward in a mass. "He has to die," she says, muffled.

Clement shifts forward, wondering if he heard her wrong. "Is that so? And just why is that? Don't tell me the divorce was that bad."

"There was no divorce, alright!? And it's because - because she can't - she can't walk around - "

"It's okay, take your time."

"She can't know what she knows, she can't...I tried to...she'll hate me, if - as long as she's alive she'll hate me for what I did, it'll be my Final Death for him to be here, I have to set this right, just fix it, fix it..."

"Oh my lord..." Clement did know her reputation - it wasn't difficult to learn about the long trail of dead childer in her wake. "He got away from you, then. Let me get this straight: you feel so bad for almost killing her that you have to kill her again."

"I - yes, that's precisely it, I couldn't have put it more succinctly myself." Clarette straightens up, wiping at her eyes, where resolve is swiftly taking hold.

He lets out a soft whistle. "Thaaaat's..." That's a mighty confused line of thinking. That's one of the more morbid things he's heard in his unlife, and he's heard quite a few. That's bad news, right there, ummm... "...that's okay, Mrs. Arsenault. I happen to think it's the other way around though - seems like killing her isn't so good for you. Put you into this state in the first place. But you know, if that's where you're at, you just sit with it for a minute." She's not answering, just shaking more and more. Clement's not sure his words are having the intended impact. "That's a lot of guilt you're carrying around. You must have really cared about this fellow once. Just deep breaths and let's think more about it after having a talk with this Rosaire, okay? We don't even know if she's mad at you yet." Though Clement has to admit, it would be fairly surprising if she wasn't.

Clarette's head shoots upright. "Having a talk?" Oh no. "A talk!? Is he awake??" And she's out the door to the exam room in a flurry of silk.

"Wait! Clarette!" He's after her.

It is about one of my many very sad kotlc oc.

Her name is Clarette. She lives wherever one of those fire sites Sophie and her friends visited. She looks exactly like Clarette but younger, sounds exactly like Clarette, even has already manifests as a polyglot (but she thinks she's just really, really fast at learning languages), will manifest as a flasher-

But she's not related in anyway to that Councilor. Everything is purely coincidental.

Sad, like I said

Basically, she decides to visit one of the fire sites, Grady sees her, but doesn't acknowledge it, even though he's thinking: why the hail does that girl look like Councilor clarette

Later, an emissary searches that place too, and this time he sees Clarette. Brings her back and that's all I got. The end.

My dungeons and dragons bard's backstory involves her having had a meltdown on stage in front of an audience of aristocrats. See, she thought she heard people laughing and whispering in the crowd—turns out it was one of those ghosts she's been ignoring for years. The sheer embarrassment was enough for her to skip town for a while.

Adelais: Is used to being called “your highness,” “Prince,” etc. and will of course be annoyed by the slight if this protocol is not followed. But he will melt when his name is used by someone he trusts. His first name is something he normally only heard from family and close servants growing up, and it meant that he was in private among safe people. Now all of those people have turned against him in a way. So when Ninlen starts to use his name in private, it will be a big comfort for him.

APOKRA: …Good luck addressing APOKRA in any way that’s meaningful to it? Human speech is like being barked at by a dog - possible to interpret, but hardly worth noticing. Those among the Alxi who are even capable of addressing it directly would be very unwise to do so in most cases. They must call it roughly the equivalent of Master, but the fact that they’re talking to it at all could get them killed, and any actual words/requests are likely to be disregarded.

Clarette: She prefers Ma'am, but, since her story is set in roughly present day, honorifics like this are going out of fashion. She's nostalgic for old fashioned titles. Hopefully they'll come back soon - she's seen so many trends come and go over the centuries that she's sure there will be another change at some point.

paris - shamelessly enjoys the “your highness” thing. dislikes “sir” but doesnt correct it. hates when delta specifically calls him by name because for a second it humanizes him and that feels Bad

martino - expects delta to address him with “sir”. but he expects delta to use honorifics with everyone, so that’s not a personal preference. most of his med students just call him “professor”.

simon - prefers to be called by name! and dislikes when delta calls him “sir” because it usually means that he’s freezing him out haha

i love this question because i feel like its so telling about how much of an asshole your whumper is and the way they view themself.

3 - When is your OC’s birthday or what is their zodiac sign if you haven’t picked a date yet? Answer both if you wish.

She literally doesn’t know her own birthday, because at some point, the calendar switchovers throughout history got complicated and she lost track. But she knows she was a summer baby and that she’s a cancer!

4 - What color or colors do you most associate with your OC?

Red and silver! Red because that’s a passionate color that’s well suited to her yearning, and silver because of “silver screen” associations with movies. It’s an also more understated equivalent to gold. She’s the type to say it’s a better version of gold, actually.

6 - Any flowers you associate with your OC?

Definitely roses, both because of the Toreador symbol and because it’s common to receive roses from admirers or as a congratulations after a theater performance. So she is giving out a lot of roses to win over performers and feed on them. If you get a bouquet from Clarette, you have some… interesting times ahead of you.

Personality: Perfectionist. A dreamer and a planner. Exacting, high standards. Sadistic in response to those who disappoint her. Craves affection but keeps others at a distance. She is avoidant and not very self-aware about it. She sometimes struggles with mania.

History:

Clarette is a Hollywood talent agent seeking to create the perfect vampire to be her lover. This person will need to be someone who she saved from death, who holds enormous natural talent and beauty, and who has a fascinating personality. She is based on the myth of Pygmalion. She is a "carewhumperee" – caretaker in the sense that she finds the dying and trains them, whumper in the sense that these people become her captives and she discards them when they disappoint her, and whumpee in the sense that she lives in isolation, consumed by her desires. She’s going a bit insane from hundreds of years of finding no one who can satisfy her.

She’s been doing this for a long time. She was born somewhere around 300 BC during the Hellenistic period in Greece (even she does not remember the exact date anymore, due to calendar confusion). After the decline of the Byzantine Empire around 1400, she moved to France, where her name changed from Clarus. She moved into Canada in the 1800s, and then the United States.

Specify “established relationship,” “established enemies,” “established tension,” etc. at the top of your ask if you want Clarette to act familiar with the character.

Since it looks like I'll be in LA for a while, I thought I might offer an extra pair of hands at St. Dymphna Hospital for a spell. It's been lovely so far. Dr. Kelley runs a tight ship. Maybe...maybe a little fast-paced, I don't think I've seen her sit down once but hey, that's dedication.
