I absolutely love Star Trek's sci-fi nonsense and diplomatic missions but my favourite episodes have to be the ones where they're not in the correct genre.

Things like going to the wild west, playing baseball, getting forced into a small child's fanfiction of a bedtime story, a twink with an accent acting like James Bond, an android and his pal becoming Holmes and Watson. Oh also nerds writing oc fanfiction and pretending it's a movie.

Also the time-travel episodes. Like when DS9 fucked around during the Tribble episode on TOS. Or when Spock and Kirk ran away from cops in the 1930's. Or when 3 fuckers get transported to Roswell.

It's fun. It's funky. It has the potential to be very goofy. Also seeing a bunch of scientists and diplomats being forced to play weird hopscotch is way too fun of a concept not to love.

JASON'S CONVOLUTED F1!OC GRID YIPPEE!!

I kinda don't… like. real person fiction due to the way it crosses… so many boundaries, so I've created an entire ass universe of characters just so I could write people going vroom vroom in fast cars without feeling personally icky about it.

Technical information and teams are based on 2024 season; may update these to reflect future seasons (unsure).

Is any of this historically or technically accurate?

Yes and no.

Autism be damned, I will not be researching the entire history of F1 and rewriting it.

I am doing the bare minimum and expanding on a case-by-case basis. Any background names are kept vague as possible, with prior team members being generated/background characters with little to no development outside of their standings with the teams (though I may flesh these characters out eventually, knowing how I usually end up doing things-)

Names generated using Fantasy Name Generators and based on relative population demographic information for the teams' home country. Conceptual portraits made using Wervty's Chime Picrew.

I also know some people look similar... the Picrew only has so many options, and I kept smaller things such as expression and pose identical for ease of creation. Eventually I will make these characters in Sims and flesh them out more individually... but man I don't feel like clearing my PC out right now.

716,792 apparently... I’ve been writing like crazy lately and I still swear that can’t be right, but there you go

The Language of Chess has been the undisputed champion for a while (Kirk and Spock flirt using the Vulcan language of chess)

The Old Family Farm is a more recent fic that came up from behind while I wasn’t looking (Clark Kent takes Bruce Wayne to meet his parents)

The Gift Giving Game was my K/S secret santa gift for Herenya_writes (Kirk and Spock stir up rumors as professors at Starfleet Academy)

A Hidden, Personal Thing (Spock offers to mind meld with Kirk)

Human, Vulcan, and Everything in Between (Spock is ace, Kirk is polyamorous, and it works well for them)

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I try to respond to every comment because there’s nothing I like more than talking with people about my writing and the stories that inspire it! I’m more than happy to answer questions on here too, if anyone has any!

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

So, these days I’m generally a firm believer in happy endings, but in the pre-AO3 days, I used to mostly write death!fic and a few highlights actually made it onto AO3:

The Death of Spock - Spock dies during the original five-year mission and Kirk is left to pick up the pieces

Only a Fool - Watson dies at Reichenbach and Holmes is left to pick up the pieces

Honorable mention: Devoted - the inevitable tragedy of Mary Watson (nee Morstan)

Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

As it turns out, the other thing I used to write is crazy crossovers, many of which were never finished, let alone saw the light of day. I’ve dialed back on it (a little), but here are some highlights:

Spock in Wonderland

Millennium Death Note - currently in progress! (What if Light Yagami solved the Millennium Puzzle?)

The Mysterious Mr. Jeeves - Jeeves and Wooster x Everything, but I think the most outlandish one in there would have to be The Phantom of the Opera

Honorable mention: my old BBC Sherlock x Harry Potter - the writing isn’t great and the plot is a bit of a mess, but it will likely always be my most viewed fic

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Only a little bit and mostly just on FanFiction.net - there was one person offended that my big Star Trek TOS x TNG crossover was “secretly” Kirk/Spock. More often I get people who like most of my fics, but then get annoyed about Kirk being polyamorous or Spock being ace or don’t like how I decided to end something, which isn’t terribly helpful, but could be worse.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Nope, don’t read it, don’t write it, just not for me.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge, thankfully.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! I’m honored that people want to translate my stories into other languages (and make podfic of them)!

What’s your all time favorite ship?

My first and dearest will always be Holmes/Watson from the original Sherlock Holmes stories

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I’ve gotten to be pretty good at finishing things I want to write, but there’s this huge Disney crossover I started writing with a friend that is glorious and complicated and almost 1/3 of the way done despite being over 90k already. Whenever I think about it, I always think that, yes, I will finish it some day, even though my co-author has lost interest, but the truth is probably not... But who knows, maybe I’ll turn around and have it done for next year’s @wipbigbang!

What are your writing strengths?

I’ve discovered a secret talent for finishing what I start, which is nice - a combination of planning and just keeping at it, slow and steady.

I think I do a good job of capturing characters’ voices, whether in dialogue or narration, and it serves me particularly well when I’m trying to imitate a style - I’m especially proud of some of my Jeeves and Wooster. I can also do some nice flowery prose if put my mind to it.

What are your writing weaknesses?

For all of my love of pretty prose, it’s easy for me to forget to describe things, so my writing can end up fairly sparse. I also feel like I could get better at integrating romance and plot - the romance often ends up getting drowned out by everything else going on, which is especially frustrating because I’m usually writing it because of the romance.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

That’s a good question. Probably Death Note (my friends and I used to ship L/Light) - that’s the oldest fic I have on my computer, at least, but I used to write on paper, so there may be something even older there. The first fandom I posted anything for is Harry Potter (a next-gen OC fic about the daughter of Bellatrix Lestrange - it’s best not to ask). I also posted my first Holmes/Watson fic at about the same time (it’s pretty bad, but I tried).

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

I’m actually really happy with a couple of my somewhat recent longer fics:

Bertie Solves a Mystery - Jeeves and Wooster get embroiled in a murder mystery and meet Hercule Poirot and Hastings (also Jeeves has a mysterious backstory)

5) do you respond to comments? why or why not?

I always read them. I don’t respond to comments on my Harry Potter fic. I just can’t engage with the source text at all anymore, and that extends to dealing with the fandom. 

I went through a long period where I wasn’t writing at all and I didn’t manage to respond to most comments then, though I loved getting them. Since coming out of that I’ve managed to get back into the habit of replying.

6) what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably one of my old HP fics. I normally try to write things with at least a hopeful ending; despite being in Les Mis fandom I’m not a fan of complete downer endings.

7) do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I do, and it’s probably the one where Jack Harkness seduces a sentient acid-secreting rock with no sex drive.

8) have you ever received hate on a fic?

No; the worst I’ve gotten is some kind of tone-deaf unsolicited concrit.

9) do you write smut? if so what kind?

I write all the smut. All of it. All kinds.

10) have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I’m aware of.

11) have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Twenty-Year Man and Life is But a Dream, a Star Trek crackfic, have both been translated into Russian!

12) have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not and actually finished it, not since I was 14. I’ve talked out a lot of not!fic with friends, but generally that kills the impulse to actually write it.

13) what’s your all-time favourite ship?

Oh man. I don’t really do favorites, but my feelings about Kirk/Spock, Holmes/Watson, Valjean/Javert, Enjolras/Grantaire, and Doctor/Master are hardwired into my soul.

14) what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Oh man. I have started cannibalizing the Les Mis time agents fic for parts, so I think it’s fair to say if I ever do finish it it will be in significantly different form. And I still have a lot of thoughts about a sequel to Twenty-Year Man that I think is also just not going to happen.

Everything else I’m still holding out hope for.

15) what are your writing strengths?

Um. I think I’m pretty good at working through plot ramifications of emotions and emotional ramifications of plotlines. And decent at prosody.

16) what are your writing weaknesses?

I’m absolutely terrible at creating OCs.

17) what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

That’s a very specific question. I think there are very few situations where it’s calIed for. The convention of dropping a few common phrases into English to indicate an accent is exactly the opposite of how people actually use their native languages when speaking in a second language, and usually just looks silly. If your POV character knows the language well enough to follow a conversation fluently, you can just indicate the language the characters are speaking and translate; and if they don’t, they’re probably not going to be picking out words well enough to be able to repeat them.

Fully multilingual characters code-switching, or classically educated characters peppering their speech with quotations, can work as long as you know the languages they’re using well enough to be convincing, and as long as you’re either willing to structure things to teach your readers the phrases they need to know before they become important, or to use a lot of footnotes.

And f your POV character is listening to a conversation in a language they know a little of and speak with effort, and is going to be paying very close attention to each word--or where their learning or reconstructing the language is a plotline--then, yeah, you probably also want to include the exact words they’re hearing or reading.

18) what was the first fandom you wrote for?

Star Trek TOS! Longhand, in notebooks.

19) what’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

That’s a really tough choice. I’m really proud of everything in my top five by kudos; and of my Doctor Who novel The Scourge of Trion; my Left Hand of Darkness/The Dispossessed fic The Color of Shadow; and the July Revolution sex pollen aftermath fic I just completed, To Make the Right Peacefully Interpenetrate the True.

My two Ana's ! Ana-Aroha Mary: Aroha: means love in maōri! :) Ana's my Sherlock Oc. She's a detective who's also a bit of a party animal. She's also a HUGE math wiz (like an absolute genius) and is very proud of it, as she often uses it as a party trick. Despite all this partying, she mostly keeps to herself during work, unless she absolutely has to talk to someone. Probably cause she's usually hungover. Has ADHD and fidgets often, and badly, mostly because she's not medicated. Has a hard time focusing on one thing for more than five minutes, but she's learnt to do things relatively quickly, which makes her a good detective. Ana-Loise Mary: French baby. Slightly more serious than Aroha but knows when and when not to party. She's my Star Trek Oc. She's a human with added powers (think of arguments, except she can grow wings out of her back. Quite painfully I might add.) and that is probably the only reason she's survived as both a security officer and a red shirt. VERY claustrophobic.

1: Do you have any pets?

No. Last one had to be put down due to feline aids

2: Who’s your favorite OC?

This is tricky. I have so many children I’m fond of. I do really love my Cyrania, but I have a real particular fondness for my clone captain George, sort of made to be an opposite character to Luke Skywalker. 

All he wants to do is become a farmer but his commanding Jedi officer, Jedi Shadow/Healer Rachel, is an idiot when it comes to strategy (she mostly tries to make sure there’s no danger to anyone but her at all times) so he stays with her in order to make sure that she doesn’t kill herself and the rest of the spec ops squad (the Patton-like Simon who’s the team’s ray of sunshine even though he takes care of interrogations and infiltrations,  Ivan the demolitions expert that keeps experimenting with new ways to make explosives that Rachel continually saves him from, and Silas the silent, down to earth medic/sniper [though Rachel continually takes over medic duties]). As time goes on though, he falls in love with her though he knows that there is no chance for them as well as the fact that she has a not so secret crush on that Anakin Skywalker guy. Then order 66 happens and he can’t understand why everyone else turned on Rachel as the two escape from the rest. Then they figure out what caused the switch and that George’s brain chip was inert and so he was immune to that order and any like it. As the two go on the run, he starts to think that maybe the two of them might have a chance, but tragically Rachel never develops similar feelings towards him (though she often wishes she could). Yet he still stays with her even though know would be his chance to follow his dream, because he’s not willingly to leave her on her own due to love and loyalty (and how he also wants to live the rest of his life with her even though both come to realize that the farm life would not suit her).

Rules: Tag 9 people you want to know about more (lol, as if I even KNOW nine people)

Relationship status: I’ve been with my girlfriend for over ten years now. If paperwork and governments weren’t so intimidating and unwelcoming, we’d be talking a little more seriously about marriage... but we also live in the deep south, and life is kinda awkward for a queer couple ‘round here.

Favorite color: Green, in general. Indigo, in particular. Brown, and dandelion yellow, and autumn red, and that pallid-grey-blue of a winter sky, and... all the colors, basically.

Top 3 Ships (in no particular order):

... i’m not much of a shipper. Um.

I guess it’s because, for me to consider it a SHIP, there’s gotta be something that exists outside of just the realms of fanfiction? Like, if personalities and situations have to change so much to make the ship work out that the characters are basically OC’s by the time it’s finished, then I can’t really bring myself to call that a ship, no matter how much I enjoy the fiction. Prime examples in that category are Sherlock/Watson (from the BBC Sherlock) and Dean/Castiel from Supernatural. The canons for both are just full of blatant queerbaiting, and the on-screen relationships between the characters full of abuse and manipulation, and I don’t wanna be all “Oh yeah I ship that” when, in reality, I ship the POSSIBILITY of what it MIGHT have been in the hands of better, more caring, less homophobic writers.

Still, that said:

Kirk/Spock and/or Kirk/Spock/Bones. A love that crosses generations and alternate realities, and a pair/trio that always find themselves inseparably together. Well-developed characters full of charisma  Kirk/Spock is my mother’s ship and I inherited it proudly.

House/Wilson. They literally drove off into the sunset to live out the rest of their lives together, yo (... and yet, it still wasn’t canon). My slightly less queer-baity, slightly less abusive Sherlock/Watson ship. Only slightly, though.

... um.

... I can say that, so far, I’ve been enjoying Eraserhead/All Might as a ship? They’re grown adults and they’re both written as good men with good hearts who really care about the kids under their care and are willing to put their lives on the line to do right. A mighty damned unproblematic pair of dudes so far. But the series is young and I can’t make any promises that this ship won’t need to be dropped like a hot rock if they change people?

(I know that at least ONE person is eagerly waiting for me to say Kirishima/Bakugo buuuuuuuut I, uh. Um. Sorry. They’re cute, with the matching red eyes, and I can see Kirishima having a crush, and that’s nice and all, buuuuut... I have to ship Bakugo with Midoriya. Sorry. It’s just. Bakugo’s OBSESSED with the boy in every single possible way and Midoriya hangs on his every action and there’s literally sparks and explosions every time they’re in the same room and love and hate are flip sides of the exact same coin and if Bakugo didn’t give a shit he wouldn’t care what Midoriya did with his time and...)

2023 Fantasy QB rankings

Patrick Mahomes - Mahomes continues to be the gold standard for QB play. He has consistently been the top QB, and I expect him to give another solid performance this year

Josh Allen - Allen is a fantasy goldmine. He gives both air yards, and solid amount of rushing upside. He makes the Buffalo offense tick.

Justin Herbert - This may come as a surprise to many, but I expect a huge year from Herbert. The addition of Kellen Moore as the new OC means a lot of passing for this offense. The weapons around him are great, so he should have a huge year.

Joe Burrow - I could easily have put Burrow higher on this list, but I expect him to give you another outstanding fantasy performance this year. He won't give you a ton on the rushing side, but his passing numbers will be more than sufficient to carry you.

Trevor Lawrence - The second year in Pederson's system will give us increased performance for "The Chosen One". I expect him to provide us with an MVP like season, and that will equate to an outstanding fantasy season as well.

Jalen Hurts - Last year's league winner comes in a little lower on my list than he does on many others. While I expect him to provide plenty of production, I do expect him to be scaled back a bit on the rushing side. This will hurt his overall fantasy production.

Lamar Jackson - The former MVP will be looking to have a bounce back season. With Monken in as OC, I expect Jackson's passing numbers to be the highest of his career. While he will run, I expect it to be much more situationally.

Justin Fields - Fields burst onto the scene last year with his rushing performance. This year brings some significant personnel changes to the Bears offense, and that should be nothing but a boon for his production. With an improved OL and better weapons on the outside, he should be able to give solid passing numbers in addition to his rushing upside.

Deshaun Watson - Personally, I don't want him on any of my ranking lists, but from purely a fantasy production standpoint this is where I have him slotted in. I expect him to be better than he showed last year, but I'm still not completely sure he will ever be what he was before the suspension.

Dak Prescott - Losing Kellen Moore will hurt his production, but I still expect him to play better than he showed last year. The addition of Brandin Cooks will help this offense. If Dak cuts down on the turnovers he could easily outperform his ADP.

Aaron Rodgers - The change of scenery will probably be good for Rodgers. The weapons around him are solid, and if he can return to his MVP like form, he could provide solid fantasy production this year

Tua Tagovailoa - With the weapons around him, and the offensive scheme he is in, I wanted to put Tua higher on this list. Unfortunately, the injury risk around him forces me to slot him in lower due to my belief that he will miss games.

Russell Wilson - Sean Payton will make a large impact on this offense, and I expect Russ to be one of the biggest beneficiaries. With plenty of weapons at his disposal, he will provide plenty of fantasy upside at his current ADP

Daniel Jones - The second year in Daboll's system should prove to be beneficial for Jones. While they added plenty of options in the WR room, I'm not sure how much they really improved there. If Waller can stay healthy, he provides a solid option, and I expect him to be a team leader in receiving.

Jared Goff - The Detroit offense put up plenty of points last year, and I think they improved this offseason. Bringing Marvin Jones back will provide a nice safe option, and the addition of Gibbs and LaPorta also give plenty of options as well.

Geno Smith - While this will continue to be a run first offense, Geno showed a great command of this offense last year, and I think he can be slightly better this year. The WR room is very talented, and offers plenty of options for QB production.

Kirk Cousins - I struggle with Cousins this year. Even though he has the best WR in the league at his disposal, the rest of the team isn't very good. He might easily outperform this ranking, but I think there is too much risk for me to put him any higher.

Best Rap 2018

This year has been probably the most packed year of all time in terms of the sheer volume of decent rap releases. Due to the huge quantity of releases it’s easy to miss out on a lot of great music and get lost in the mix. With that in mind, I wanted to create a long list that can be bookmarked and returned to for those who slept.

I could have easily created a top 300 and still felt bad about leaving a few good albums out. That said, I've managed to cut it down to a slightly more definitive (but hardly concise) top 150 so this doesn't read like too much of a phone book.

As in previous years, ‘Rap’ is on the banner, but the list is made up of hip-hop, UK road rap, grime, and anything that can adequately be categorised as a rap sub-genre in my mind.

Finally, as usual, don’t get too hung up on the order. The top albums are at the top and the still-quality-but-not-quite-elite albums are towards the lower end, but there’s no use getting too hung up about what appears as, say, my 57th and 61st favourite albums. This is designed and published primarily for myself to look back on in years to come and reflect on the year, but also for anyone who reads it to see it as recommended listening that should keep you very busy.

I would write a blurb for each and every album to explain why I love them, but no-one would pay me and my time is valuable, so instead I’ve linked each album to their Spotify stream…Enjoy, and feel free to let me know if I've missed anything!
