Although it's not really focused on, I do wonder what the bots would feel like when we touch them (physical affection). Sometimes they're portrayed as being cold to the touch, sometimes they're warm like a computer, but I personally think that Cybertronians are more in-between, just like how humans are—the extremities tend to be cooler than the body itself, although they can still be pretty warm.

For example, Optimus has warm hands, perfect for holding cold humans, but if it's frigid outside? Lay on his chassis, that's where you go to defrost from the cold.

A bot like Ultra Magnus has even warmer hands, a warmer chassis, and woah, even his shoulder pauldrons are warm! I would love to sit on his shoulders, but would I accidentally fall asleep and fall off? Yes. Yes I would.

Smaller bots are the best for cuddling though, even with the size difference. Watching a movie with Bumblebee? Welp, now he's watching a movie with his human, who's fast asleep. He wouldn't mind.

Gah, physical affection with the bots (any bot) is my favorite! Let me hug them!

Oh you've hit on one of the things I can't quite decide (in a good way!)

You're so right. If I had a mech friend, I'd be all over them. Cat on a warm car hood. Chilling on their knee. Sprawled over their shoulder.

What I can't quite decide is, I go back and forth on how a mechanical being would register physical touch. It seems intuitive that they'd have to have some sensory input from their exterior. To what degree can they feel their armor, though? And does touch, for them, tie into emotion and pleasure the way it does for us? It's hard to even consider what it might mean if it didn't.

You're very right that this isn't really focused on much. I think one of the biggest differences between humans and Cybertronians, and yet one of the most unexplored, is that they can in all likelihood turn off their physical pain. At least to some degree. They can probably alter their sensory capacities to a much, much greater extent than we can. What's life like when you can decide how much or how little you want to feel? And how is that sensation processed?

In humans, there's a rare condition of being unable to feel pain and it's considered extremely dangerous. Because pain is a warning that something is wrong. If you can't feel pain, how do you know you've broken your ankle? You could just keep walking on it, doing more and more structural damage, until you've become permanently injured. Being able to turn your pain on and off, while something I'd be very envious of, would make us so, so fundamentally different as a species. It would change our medical field, our wars, our laws, our relationships, our art.

Touch is such an inherent part of any kind of close relationship for us. We're born with a need for it. Babies literally die without it. Of course we'd want to touch our new friends. To bond with them, to feel close to them, for reassurance and mutual enjoyment of their presence. Doubtless we could and would do that.

But would they view touch the same way? Would they need it? I know we see mechs hugging and touching, but..they're metal. That's kind of a lot of clanging. What sensation would they get out of it? What use would it have for them? What role would touch have played in their development – when they're not really a species that evolved, at all?

I know I go back to this a lot, but Therrae's Xenoethnography really was formative to me in a number of ways, and the mechs there just don't use touch, natively, in the way humans do. And they have to adapt to our ways, even as the human main character tries to adapt to theirs. That would include finding ways to bridge that gap and really communicate what we're trying to communicate in ways that make sense to us both, when we're trying to be physically close or vulnerable to foster those emotional bonds.

The real challenge, and the real crux of it all, is that. That we're both willing to try, to take risks. It takes courage to look at a being you're so different from, and be willing to climb in their hand or sit on their shoulder. It takes courage to engage in whatever alien means of physical communication they would use. It's also what's so beautiful about first contact. Not the failures, or the misunderstandings, or the differences, but the willingness to try and keep trying to build a third language we can both speak.

And then, to use that third language to say I love you, I trust you, I want to be with you.

Yo! Been following your blog for god knows how many years now. But I wanted to know.

If you could write a Constantine x Magic user Batfamily reader, where the reader is the top in the relationship?

I know Bruce is gonna be like "...Oh god one of my sons is dating Constantine".

And the reader is around Constantine's age, so he is unofficially Bruce's adoptive son despite the reader being as old as Constantine. Which is very funny to me.

Headcanons 

Bruce and Constantine are around the same age, which is really funny to me. Cuz imagine Bruce sees this man, the same age as himself, and immediately goes “hm, yes. My son”. 

Reader is just along for the ride, cuz why not.  

I feel you have known Constantine longer than you have known Bruce, with the both of you being magic users and involved in that area of the world. 

But you being a Gothamite also means you have known the bat for a long time, and you were his go-to magic support back when he first started out.  

You two first became close when a whole portal to hell was opened by cultists, and you almost lost your life closing it, and saving Bruces life in the meantime. This made the poor guy grow attached, like a barnacle. 

You blame his mother-henning on his trauma, and you just go along with it, cuz he also finances all your whims and woes. 

You assumed his hovering would let up when Bruce starts picking up other kids, and sure, his attention is on them a lot, but Bruce does sniff you out semi-regularly to check on you. 

Ends up with you having a lot of younger “siblings” and it becomes a running joke in the batclan. All the younger ones always jokingly call you Bruces oldest, and correct people when they assume you are their uncle. 

Bruce somehow bat-tags you up like everyone else, somehow even finds a way to track you through the infernal realms, it's really impressive for someone who doesn't do magic. 

It takes a while for you and John to start actually dating. For a good while you guys were just FWBs, scratching each other's backs and itches when the need was there. 

Then you both grow older, experience a lot of things together, and accept that you two are in love, to a mad degree. 

When you guys become official, you two start going at it like rabbits, it is embarrassing really. You two act like you've never had the chance to be together before, and John has never been left so jelly legged as he finds himself after this. 

You move out of Gotham to move in with John, since you guys have finally settled in together. This doesn't keep Bruce from keeping an eye on you though, since you always find yourself in some kind of magic trouble. 

It takes a good while for anyone in the batfam to realize you are in a relationship. 

Over the years you've had a lot of things and non-serious relationships. It kinda runs in the family, and runs in the area of being a magic user, so they're all way too interested. 

You don't spend a lot of time in Gotham at this point, but you do come home for family dinners when Alfred invites you. You are still convinced all these years later, that Alfred is magic. 

When they hear you are coming for dinner, you get spammed in the family groupchat by your “siblings” to bring your lover so they can meet. 

All their theories on who your lover is entertain you and John a lot. Dick even puts a guess on Deadman, somebody else jokingly mentions Brother Blood. 

Cas is the only one to get it right, because it's pretty obvious if you know what you are looking for. It's pretty easy to clock when you start wearing the same amulets as Constantine, and you start carrying cigarettes in your pockets even when you don't smoke. 

John doesn't really dress up for the occasion, cuz he knows everyone there already. You do get him to shave though, and to put on a coat that doesn't smell so much like sulfur. 

You also have to flick on some illusion magic to hide all the hickeys on his throat, and the limp when he walks.  

The dinner goes as normal, as normal as a dinner with the batfam can be, especially when you sprinkle John Constantine in.  

Bruce can't even really grill him, or give him the talk, because they've known each other for a long time, and they all know how you guys met and have worked together. 

It's clear Bruce isn't too pleased though, as he's doing the bat-furrow(tm) of his brow, but he does that with most of his kids partners. He never says anything about it though, as you guys call him out on his many questionable partners. 

You still point out Khoa and Talia on the regular, whenever Bruce starts getting a little too protective of his kids, the younger ones, at least. 

Alls good and well, until John makes some comment about being sore and you wrecking his world better than any incubus he's ever met. You just keep eating with a shrug, as some of the others snicker, and others sigh.

Another day

The girls and god were out and about

"oh I just love going out with you three" honey skipped along and smiled. They hummed a small tune

"mkay so this guy is like a genius and I am sure he will fix this" Zoey typed in her phone and grinned happily, she skipped with Honey. The three girls had to hide themselves while Honey only had to hide their very being to not be noticed by the human eye.

"can we go fabric shopping after this? I have several ideas in my sketchbook and I know it will look elegant on you three" Honey grinned happily.

"sure" Mira smiled gently.

They stopped at the building and paused "human doctors are so silly" Honey giggled as they read the advertisement of the doctor on the door. "Usually they work at more.... professional places" Mira raised a brow, obviously skeptical of the whole thing.

Zoey whined "I think we should give it a shot" Rumi pushed, looking hopeful and almost desperate.

"that human was so funny!" Honey grinned happily and giggled. "See I told you he was so legit" Zoey said puffing her chest out proudly.

They chanted "we got the tonics!"

"next stop, recovered voice and Golden Honey!" Mira roared in determination. Zoey laughed and jumped up and down.

Rumi laughed as she held the big box of tonics.

They walked along. Chatting "for the fans, for Honmoon!" Rumi, Zoey and Mira exclaims. Honey laughed at their antics. "Now for my fabric shopping" they state with a huff.

"yep as promised" Mira said.

They all stopped and looked down the alley, they froze "shit, fans" Mira asked as she and Zoey scrambled to hide. So they hide behind Rumi

Down that all was a group of 4 guys, cute ones and rather. Very familiar ones.

"demon boys" Honey whispers, both Rumi and Honey looked to their friends and they were DROOLING.

As they came closer.

Abby looks over and smirks towards Honey and flexes his bicep as he casually ran his fingers through his hair. He got a peak of Mira and bit his lip as a bonus.

Romance only smiled and winked while kissing the hair, he had looked at Mira and bowed his head charmingly.

Baby smiled boredly, giving a casual head tilt to Honey as he walked by.

Mystery only stared at Honey as he passed.

Then there was jinu, he looked up and noticed Honey first. Honey looked back at him and pursed their lips with a small sigh and pretended not to know him and glanced over to what Jinu looked at next.

Rumi was winded, her breath taken away by this tall, dark haired man. Jinu bumped into her, and she falls

Honey swiftly takes her waist and kept her from falling. They looked over and saw the mess "Jinu" They rolled their eyes at Jinu's antics.

"watch yourself" Jinu snapped.

Rumi gasped and glared "watch yourself asshole!" She yelled out. Honey sighed "you okay?" They asked Rumi.

"yea Im peeerfectly fine...and pissed. Both sound accurate" Rumi huffs. She turns and exclaims "look at this mess"

They all cleaned up

"they're so meh"

"no more like BLEH"

The three paused

"mmmmmBLEEH"

Honey snickers. And looked down the alley 'if what he said is true....and all they are here for is music, they shouldn't be a threat right?'

They all heard the music.

They got closer.

They were performing and they were Good

They had the crowd going wild, somebody better hold onto Their Ommas before their souls get sucked out.

Honey shimmied at the music and smiled, the music was so bright and catchy it made them glow. Rumi looked to them in shock

Someone else's song is making Honey glow and vibrate around them. But a different hue of color.

Honey felt enchanted.

They yelp as they were dragged in, somehow they followed their moves perfectly. And it was actually pretty fun.

Jinu smiled and twirled Honey around and sang.

Rumi, Mira and Zoey gasped.

"they just dragged Honey on there" Mira frowned at that. "Wait but Honey is actually really good at dancing" Zoey smiled and clapped for them as the song continued.

Rumi would be lying if she said she didn't feel jealous. The way Jinu was looking at Honey and how Honey looked back in familiarity, she frowned and crossed her arms.

She had to admit, Honey looks so pretty dancing and the song was honestly perfect for them to dance to.

They have a real connection don't they?

The light reflected off of the boys skin and they saw it, the patterns.

All three girls gasped in shock and concern "they are demons"Mira and Rumi glared.

They contemplated killing them but it was too public to do so. "Let's just get Honey away from them" Rumi states.

"right, protect Honmoon" Mira and Zoey huff as they moved further into the crowd.

As the song progressed, Mira tries grabbing Honeys arm but Romance took their hand and swirled them around away from her clutches.

"grrr" Mira growled.

Zoey huffs and circled before trying to tackle Honey but Mystery swoops in and guides her away and into Mira. Both toppling over.

The both groan and Zoey sat up with a mad but blushing face. Mystery only blew her a kiss and she yelps as the heart hits her face.

Honey smiled brightly as the song ran its course and they shown so bright, a wave of light was released, echoing far and wide, a magenta pink color.

With all the struggle the deity started to notice, but baby only took his hands and grinned as he guided them to Jinu who took their hand.

"my little soda pop" he winked. He was gonna dance with them more before Rumi jumps and took Honeys other hand.

Jinu looked at Rumi and Rumi back at him, they both glared at each other harshly. "Uh?" Honey spoke up but Jinu lets Honey go and pushes them to Rumi.

Jinu smirked softly at that and waved to the crazy fans.

The song ends.

"you okay?" Rumi asked Honey Gently

Honey blinked slowly "hmm? Oh yea I feel great" they giggle and flipped onto Rumis head like they were drunk.

Rumi frowned at the state Honey was in and looked over to Jinu, Jinu caught her eye and smirked as he wiped his shoulder, the same shoulder that had bumped into Rumi.

She grits her teeth

"jerk"

The girls gathered around

"you girls okay?" Honey asked checking up on them curiously. They spot a cut on Zoeys cheek, so they reached into their pouch of needles and other random stuff and takes out a band-aid

"thank you" Zoey smiled.

"what happened there? You were so into it. And it was like you couldn't hear us call you" Mira asked. Honey stared "oh really? Their music was just so groovy I got distracted I think..."

"let's just go, we have to think about how to get rid of them" Rumi pushed them off.

Once home

"oooo you know I'm ready to stop demon scum!" Zoey cawed loudly as she goes to put her outfit on.

"girls lotion" Honey huffs as they throw the bottle to Mira. "Right"

Rumi got ready and looked at Honey, she couldn't stop thinking about it. A demon boy band managed to make Their Honmoon glow like they did.

"so about the glow?" The leader of the trio spoke up, both Mira and Zoey stopped for a moment and looked. "Did you know you can be influenced by demons too?" Rumi asked.

Honey thought for a moment and looked at their sewing kit. "Well, all music and song always catch my interest, their music was hypnotic and catchy....I didn't mean to glow" Honey explained

They fiddled with their fingers and frowned "I'm sorry"

"no it's okay! You liked their music and that's okay" Zoey frowned softly

Mira pursed her lips "but we really do have to keep you away from them, they could try and destroy you in one fall swoop" she puts her hand on Honeys shoulder.

Just read the staff's reactions, but my creativity nyan cats are blasting off because WHAT ABOUT THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE BOYS???

Like, since both Yuu and reader are in Ramshackle then of course they're gonna come along, also Yuu probs won't let them stay alone bcs of the whole being Creepy thing right?

And sue me if I'm wrong but I have the biggest feeling Georgina Leech would NOT like Yuu AT ALL! Like, I feel like reader would remind her of Azul when he was smol and was getting bullied so also since she's older and has more experience she's defo gonna notice something's VERY wrong with this Yuu person and that poor reader kid is taking the brunt of it. Also like Najma, being pretty perceptive in my opinion, would definitely get creeped out by Yuu and would feel so bad for reader, esp if reader's a girl. So I'd love to see your thoughts on this and how the family members of the characters would react!

How does Mr. Ring A Ding/Lux handle jealousy?

Mr. Ring A Ding bleeds confidence—self-assured to a fault, almost radiant in the way he carries himself. He doesn’t question his worth, and he certainly doesn’t question yours. Reminder: you both have a close relationship and he trusts you to maintain faithfulness (along with his own).

If someone dares to throw flirtatious glances his way, he brushes it off without a second thought. It's not ego-boosting, it leads to a quick decline with no hesitation. If it's not from you, he doesn't care. The only person he sees as his is you.

Is someone hitting on you or showing interest in front of him? How he reacts is based on how you respond. Mr. Ring A Ding keeps his eyes on you-- your facial expressions, body language, your vocal cues.

Are you visibly uncomfortable and they can't take no for an answer? Are you leaning away? Struggling to escape the conversation? Looking for him? He took a step forward towards you, looming over your small frame-- every inch of his height casting a shadow that enveloped your own.

“Lux—” you tried, but it came out too soft.

"Do you think this is a game?!" He cut you off, voice rising into something unhinged.

"Oh, I'll make it a game alright," His smile spread now—slow, wild, dangerous. “In fact, I’ll give you a ten-second head start.”

Your heart dropped. "Lux, you can't be serious--"

"Don't make me laugh."

"You clearly don't know who you belong to." He leaned in so close you could feel the warmth radiating from his skin, the barely-restrained chaos lurking beneath his breath.

“Looks like I’ll have to remind you,” he whispered.

“Like I said… ten seconds." And if you know what's good for you... You'd better run.

Just to make it clear, he wouldn't actually injure or trap you. (unless he's a yandere, then he'd confine you where no one can see you ever again.)

He'd "teach you a lesson", though, through either fucking you senselessly, spanking you, making sure you only remember his name... or he'll give you the silent treatment and will feel incredibly hurt by what you did.

His trust isn't something to be toyed with. If it gets to the point where he suspects you of infidelity, or you actively do this behind his back, your relationship will crash and burn... and maybe you will too. As revenge, he'll toss you away or trap you in film and watch you go up in flames.

Ship Sleep Dynamics (Madeleina x Lucanis)

How often do they sleep together?

Pretty much every night once Madeleina moves to Antiva! They have a lot of sleep to catch up on after the events of Veilguard wrap up. There is a brief period of time where she's back and forth between Tevinter and Antiva, initially staying to help with reconstruction efforts in Minrathous after the final battle. Nights they spend apart are always toughest. They have this effect of quieting each other's minds when they're together and both of them just ... sleep much more peacefully together.

Where do they sleep?

Post-VG Madeleina moves in to the Dellamorte family home, so they sleep in Lucanis' room :)

How do they prepare to sleep?

They do their evening routines together. Madeleina (or Lucanis) brushes through her hair before bed. Then, usually they'll debrief over the day for a bit, before Madeleina picks a new story to read to him and Spite, sometimes bringing it to life with magic. Then, it's time for bed :)

What do they wear to sleep?

Madeleina usually wears a satin night dress. Lucanis I headcanon goes for the classic shirtless + boxer combo.

Do they cuddle?

Oh heck yeah, all the time. But usually at some point in the night they'll separate. Madeleina tends to run VERY warm, like a furnace. So eventually the cuddling stops unless Lucanis wants to wake up drenched.

What are their preferred sleep positions?

It usually starts with Madeleina's head resting on Lucanis' chest, but she's kind of like, on his chest but laying diagonally on an angle almost? Idk how to explain it, but it's not the kind of 'sleeping with head on chest but curled up next to them' kind of thing. She starfishes, likes her space. At some point it transitions to cuddling. Then either one will usually roll and they'll be a part for a little bit.

How easy do they fall asleep?

When they're together they fall asleep quite quickly. Without Lucanis, Madeleina tends to ruminate. Lucanis i think takes a little longer, even when she's there.

Do they toss and turn a lot?

Madeleina tosses and turns a lot. Lucanis I don't think does.

Do they snore?

I'm not sure about Lucanis, but Madeleina will snore if she's VERY tired.

Who hogs the blanket?

Lucanis, but only because Mads usually kicks the blanket away

What do they dream about?

Madeleina is sometimes haunted by her experiences from the events of VG. Sometimes she has nightmares, but they definitely lessen in frequency over time.

How easily do they wake up?

Madeleina is not a morning person, Lucanis is. He's usually up early way before her. She haaaates being woken up early and usually is very slow/hard to wake. It's honestly a miracle they weren't late to the battle of minrathous bc she wanted to sleep in.

How awake they are afterwards?

Once she's awake she's awake, but it's a process to get her there. Usually needs at least a cup or two of Lucanis' strongest coffee.

The first time that Adam learned about the legend of the Sleeping King, he was in high school on a class field trip to the museum. Lucifer Morningstar had been a King thousands of years ago with his village and temple deep within the Pride Rainforest in one of the most dangerous places in the world.

There was only a picture of the temple plus a brick that one brave soul was lucky enough to retrieve.

Legend says that the King died of a broken heart when his love and Queen was forcibly taken from him. But before he died he placed a curse on the land and his temple, as well as himself as to not be disturbed.

he would be terrified to begin with for sure. no matter how long it's been, no matter how old his brothers get, he'll always hold a modicum of guilt for the first few years with both brothers, and he'd be terrified of repeating that. once the initial shock and anxiety wears off, he'd be sure to make sure you know you're supported, no matter what decision you make

if you decide to keep the baby, i think he'd definitely come around and be excited. even if it isn't what he had in mind for his future, i think his views would shift significantly and you'd find him picking up a onesie he thought you'd like that he saw while grocery shopping, or a book he thought had nice art.

he'd still be scared for sure, but it's easier with you by his side (and no kaori!) and the support of choso as an uncle and yuji as an uncle/sort of a big brother. especially choso, who i think would really try to step in and help where you and sukuna allow given that he's a little more in-tune with sukuna's struggles than yuji is. he'd be such a great uncle!! he'd be more than happy to look after your child once they're born so that you and sukuna can have a night to yourself. best uncle fr. yuji would absolutely offer too when he's old enough, they're both giant sweethearts

sukuna would also be fiercely protective of you during pregnancy. i think he'd kinda enjoy the mood swings in his own weird way and think they're cute and he'd love giving you a hard time for it and pampering you after, given that his love language is 100% acts of service and physical touch (but he's still sukuna. he can't resist teasing you). he'd want to take over pretty much everything and would have no issues with it since he prefers to occupy his time with tasks since it's what he's used to between raising his brothers, two jobs, and school.

he'd be a lot more scatterbrained when the baby is born. between feeling as though he's fucking up again and struggling to be the parent he actually feels like he should have been so many years ago, the fear would come back for sure. i think it's something he would always struggle with, but god he'll try. he'll do anything to make you and his kid happy, and he'll love you both unconditionally. oh and if your baby is a girl? a whole new level of fear and unknown for him LOL

Bunny being Holmes fits surprisingly well for his character. 13 fics in total, with vibrant lore and intriguing plots. It's not only about Jackrabbit, there's fics about North and Bunny having the best bromance ever, one that's just straight up about Tooth, and one where Tooth and jack are bonding by smacking each other with their respective weapons. It's great, it's fun I love this au very much.

Also love it when in human aus, people add Pitch into the guardian's friend group as this really eccentric guy that gives you the creeps. Like how Pitch is in rufftoon's comics lmao, that's the only pitch I'll ever accept in any human Au ever.

Another human au! Where Bunny and Jack bonds over hating their respective kid's shitty teacher every monthly parent meetings. This was fun, I love how it doesn't have a lot of drama (really the only drama is whatever is happening with Jack and Bunny). Pretty easy-going fic.

The one where Bunny can't sleep and Jack tries to help him. It's pre-slash and more platonic, not really romantic but I like it. It's a very down to earth fic, I just love the vibe it gives off. Also the idea of walking in a room and just have Bunny laying down on the floor like a rug would either have me burst out laughing or think he's dead LMAO.

megasoundop is the only brand of megop that i can tolerate, not even going to lie.

i just think that both of them need a sort of buffer there. soundwave fundamentally understands megatron (imo), and has a knack for coming to deep and accurate conclusions about others. meaning that if he spent enough time with optimus, he'd probably end up liking him.

ive always shipped megasound, like how ive always shipped wavewave and optiratch. there is so many of my favourite dynamic tropes wrapped up in this ship (i.e.: knight/lord, guard dog/leash holder, devotee/idol, etc.). i've always liked ships that have subtle power dynamics wrapped up in a morally grey (or straight up evil) bow. megasound has always been "universe's worst enabler/universe's worst warlord" to me.

i havent always shipped soundop. i actually pavlov'd myself into shipping it just because i came up with a really funny crack au that accidentally sent soundop careening from "silly nonsense" to "oh god, they're actually really good". soundop isn't as cut and dry to me as megasound- there arent a lot of dynamic tropes that actually fit them, so it's hard to quantify in simple terms what their relationship would be like. but its based on agreements, a mutual acknowledgment of the past and the future, respect and understanding. it's a lot of work, but it's rewarding.

i love both megatron and optimus as characters, and i totally recognize why the fandom ships them (ESP the idw and tfo side) (though, side note, i do actually like dpax; my opinion on megop is very nuanced and continuity dependent.) either way, i just dont see it working after literal millions of years of war without someone to act as a sort of mediator. whether that be in a romantic or platonic position, its up to whoever is doing the interpreting; but here's my take.

so we've got this guy (soundwave) who's basically sworn to this other guy (megatron), and the depth of his oath has become pretty muddy to both of them, even teetering on blasphemous if one looks hard enough. their (now ex-) enemy is an all around pretty Okay dude (optimus). while he's definitely tried to destroy everything they've done, they have also tried to do the exact same thing to him. and now that it's all done and over with...

well hey, why not? optimus seems amicable. he's definitely still sympathetic to them; remembering their time together before the degeneration that the war had become. maybe it would be worth it to try and test the waters.

i see it as an enemies to friends to lovers deal on all sides. everyone has to want it, has to work towards it, has to put in that effort.

soundwave is very suspicious of optimus at first, and frustrated that megatron would simply welcome him in so easily. optimus has to earn soundwave's trust. soundwave is protective of megatron- it's hard to undo 4 million years of protecting him from the very person he's now let in their home.

optimus is, understandably, a bit intimidated by how... intense... the vibe is. he feels like he's constantly in hostile territory. but he also knows that he's the odd man out. he resents having to earn his place, but also understands that if they want to have any hope at success, he needs to have soundwave's trust.

megatron is... both delighted and cautious. he's probably the one who's walking the thinnest line. it was his idea, he's the one who kept touch with optimus, he's the one who wanted to at least try. he convinced soundwave, no easy feat, and optimus, only slightly easier. he has the trust of two people that he cares very much about on the line.

it's definitely stressful.

both optimus and megatron are stubborn mechs. megatron has a temper and optimus has a no nonsense attitude. both of them can bicker back and fourth for hours, and to anyone on the outside, it would look like a normal conversation. yet, it is bickering, and despite how much both of them try to deny their own internal feelings, it does leave them a bit more hollow each time.

megatron never wants to apologize; he can only admit fault if he's given irrefutable proof of wrong doing. it's like pulling teeth.

meanwhile optimus is trying so hard to be reasonable, but also firm in his stances. he wishes to help both soundwave and megatron adjust to a life without war- while he can barely do that himself.

but soundwave, at first, would be doing this for megatron. as always, he's the self-sacrificer, the one who will do whatever is asked in order to further their goals. that much hasn't changed, even if the rhetoric has. yet, as time goes on, he slowly begins to enjoy this arrangement. which is something he never expected.

soundwave is adaptable and level headed; able to parse out fact and fiction within a blink of an eye. as he slowly grows more confident in his identity beyond just being megatron's most trusted, he finds himself growing more and more satisfied by finding another ship in the sea that is loving megatron.

anyway, tl;dr - they're gay. painfully so. theyre also traumatized and like not having a good time usually. but they're trying to fix that and make it work. and if that isn't real love idk what is.

Ya know I've been meaning to ask you, do you have any particular favorite cartoons in the Looney Tunes era that are not of the main casts people know? Like stuff that isn't the main Looney Tunes, Mickey Mouse, or most of Hanna Barbera's cast commonly known?

HEY THERE!! OH MAN what an interesting question!! HMMMM... i'm struggling to answer this, both because i think the answer is "no" but also, i feel like there are characters i know that i assume everyone knows, even though that's not the case? like i was just thinking "well, Gandy and Sourpuss are pretty mainstream aren't they...?" when the answer is, likely, no HAHA

BUT! okay so my favorite non WB shorts are the Fleischer Popeyes and MGM cartoons such as Tex Avery's shorts and Tom and Jerry--i'd argue those are all pretty popular and well known characters/franchises. i do tend to stick with what i like, but i do think they're so beloved and popular for a reason (whereas, say, Famous Studios' Little Audrey is not HAHA)

BUT! YEAH, i do like the Gandy Goose and Sourpuss cartoons a lot, and likewise with Heckle and Jeckle--i don't really go out of my way to watch them, but i get happy and excited when i come across them, so yay for Terrytoons!

OH! I JUST REMEMBERED THE FOX AND CROW!!!! FOX AND CROW!! i haven't seen all the Fox and Crow cartoons, but i enjoy what i've seen greatly--it helps that Frank Tashlin directed the first one, and it really just comes off as a psuedo-LT short (with Mel Blanc doing the voices, and gags that'd be reused in some later Tashlin shorts after he returned to WB!). the few Fox and Crow shorts at UPA are very fun as well, The Magic Fluke is tied with Rooty Toot Toot for my favorite UPA short

you can also call the first Fox and Crow short the first Roadrunner and Coyote short... really fun short, especially for Screen Gems, whichhhh is not exactly in the same trifecta of quality as WB/MGM/Disney etc HAHA

AND SPEAKING OF COLUMBIA! the early Scrappy shorts are very fun and charming too. i got to see a Scrappy short on the big screen! they're very charming. i recall enjoying this one quite a bit, timestamped this bit i like but the whole cartoon is very fun iirc

i'm not the biggest Famous Studios fan, but i've enjoyed what few Little Lulu shorts i've seen and am excited to see more! though maybe that's cheating since the shorts are animated adaptations... but they've made me wanna read John Stanley's Little Lulu comics. look at how charming this is! i've seen multiple people compare them to the Peanuts comics, particularly when the Peanuts characters are mean little bastards (which is my favorite type of Peanuts) so i'm eager to dive in. though, maybe i'm biased, as one of the first Little Lulu shorts i saw is a direct rip-off of Porky's Romance (which is the first Porky i saw! is the world trying to tell me something?) and i kinda love it for that reason. but she's fun

hmmm... i'm on a mission to see every golden age cartoon that i can possibly find, and i've seen at least a few hundred now (well, in addition to the thousand LT shorts i've seen + cumulative hundreds of MGM/Popeye shorts i'd already seen before i started this mission)--you find that there is a reason why people celebrate the series' and characters that we do, and there's a reason for the opposite, too. but there are often a whole lot of one off characters and shorts, too, not every short having an established character, so it makes this a little hairy to answer because there's just so much! i haven't kept up with this mission very well lately, been too busy and sometimes i just wanna go back to the goodness of a LT short, so i can't think of many one-off shorts that have super impressed me recently. but they're out there!

#12 : the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

well! my url says it all!

i do count cuddy as being 'unpopular.' i think she's in a weird spot where she isn't hated by most of the fandom but not many people really care about her the way that i see for house, wilson, and the ducklings. she's generally liked but not understood. i think more people should like her because she's very interesting as a character! she's such a great foil for house, she's funny as fuck, and her story makes me so, so emotional. also she's kinda. the driving force of the show. right? there's no House, M.D. without cuddy therefore there is no House M.D. without cuddy. there's genuinely a million more things i could say but i don't want to drag on too long.

other than The Lady. i'd say... the other ladies! cameron and amber, to be exact. these two are my 3rd and 4th favourite characters in the entire show (yes, i really love amber) and i see a lot of people disliking them. which makes me sad!! i love how these two are portrayed. their similarities to house (and cuddy!!) are so cool to point out. i think my reasons for liking them are pretty similar, too; i love the way their emotions are portrayed, how they deal with the world around them and what's expected of them. i love goal-oriented women that aren't afraid to stand up to the men around them, if you couldn't tell.

#22 : your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

oh god. so much. the easy answer here is huddy. i think their dynamic is underappreciated because of shipping culture. not to say that they aren't ever talked about, but they're definitely discussed in earnest a whole lot less than *ahem* other "ships", and when they are, it's mostly about their one bad moment (aka season 7) instead of. idk. the entire 6 seasons before. come on! whether you ship them or not i think you should be able to appreciate just how layered, complex, and symbolic their relationship is. and how important it is to the show! as i said above, there's no House without cuddy, and in a lot of ways, there's no house without cuddy.

another cuddy related answer; her relationship with motherhood and infertility. i know basically everyone calls her mother (or, a version of the term) and was brought to tears watching Joy & Joy To The World, etc. but i think the actual storyline, when paid attention to, is very interesting and very... gut wrenching. her breakdown to wilson in Finding Judas is what made me really begin to love her as a character. and it makes me cry so fucking hard. every time.

i actually think there's a lot of interesting stuff that can be said about gender with her here; she's very much not traditionally feminine, in both her chosen field and her traits, she's definitely a nonconformer in a lot of ways. and the one time she wants to conform to those traditional female roles, by having a child, her body... can't. gets me thinking a lot about House's relationship with social roles and the failure to comply to them... which is something i want to expand on more in a later post lol. but the feeling of being betrayed and restrained by your own body -- and in spite of your own choices -- is something that the narrative of House comes back to a lot, and this storyline fits into quite perfectly, yet i have never really seen it discussed!

Hear me out...

I think the reason some people are nervous about Byler not happening in S5—that the Duffers cater to the majority-straight GA and thus they wouldn't write something the GA wouldn’t anticipate—is actually exactly why they would want to write that twist that Will's love for Mike is requited. It'd reframe Mike and Will's already-intense relationship into a perfect romantic slow burn full of dramatic revelations and emotional payoff. The Duffers loooove that shit. They literally wouldn’t be able to RESIST delivering something that’s both that juicy and also perfectly set up. It would make waves and they know it. Plus, it was their final season, so they had nothing to lose bc renewal pressure didn't infringe on their creative freedom like it would've for every season prior. It makes sense they'd wanna wait til S5 to pull off this kind of twist.

That twist would also completely re-contextualize Mike’s out of character weirdo behavior in seasons 3 and 4 that the GA pretty much unanimously clocked and hated even if they didn't clock the queer subtext driving it. It would totally redeem the Duffers’ alleged 'bad writing' of later-season Mike by making it clear that those writing choices for him were actually part of a very carefully and intentionally crafted character arc that was confusing and red flaggy at the time but makes total sense in hindsight.

They wouldn't want it to be obvious to the GA at all, bc then it wouldn't be a good twist, they'd wanna be moving in silence... However, they'd still want all the clues and breadcrumbs (aka queer subtext lmao) to check out and hold up upon a series rewatch. Which totally would, given how intentionally all of that groundwork has been laid across 4 seasons (look no further than the thousands upon thousands of intelligent, logical, well-researched, in-depth write-ups and videos analyzing it all! it's not just a random ship, there's a significant amount of genuinely compelling evidence). The twist is only obvious to queer viewers bc they can watch the show without missing these gay af breadcrumbs that go over most of the GA's heads bc they're still blinded by their heteronormativity goggles. In other words, GA doesn't have Gay True Sight so they won't see this twist coming till Mike literally kisses Will on the mouth, but it takes a LOT less than that for a GA to immediately suspect a romance plot-line between two straight characters (something the Duffers already subverted with Robin and Steve in S3). The Duffers get to write the easiest fucking plot twist ever purely thanks to heteronormativity lol.

And anyway that’s exactly what makes it such an effective twist: not that it comes out of nowhere, but that it feels like a revelation only in hindsight bc the groundwork had already been laid. Here's an interview quote from Ross Duffer about writing good plot twists that convinced me Byler was planned to be a very intentional twist for the GA:

Interviewer: That was quite a twist, by the way. How hard was it to pull off?

Ross Duffer: Doing a twist is nerve wracking because just to … We talked about it a lot in the writer’s room and the best twists are ones that you go, “Oh, I should have seen that coming.” As opposed to the twists that go, “Oh, well that just came out of nowhere.” So, “Oh, I missed these clues along the way.” But you get nervous when you’re writing it because you go, “Well, to me it seems obvious that Henry, as a young child, doesn’t die. Why does he not die from Vecna?” And you’re just hoping that those little breadcrumbs that you’re leaving along the way aren’t so obvious that everyone starts to guess it.

some of my favorite byler moments that erase my doubt + a random thing thats make me question byler endgame

i wanted to come on here and share some of my favorite byler moments that make really all my doubt go away about them being endgame. i also want to share something that somewhat makes me doubt byler endgame, just to hear yalls thoughts on it.

3 moments that take away my byler endgame doubt:

☆mikes inability to hug will at the airport☆

this scene screams “i’ve thought way too much about how i feel about my best friend and i don’t wanna make it even more weird.” we’ve seen mike be affectionate with will before (especially in s2), and even with dustin in s4. so why couldn’t he just give will a real hug? will literally has his arms out. he’s ready. and mike just… gives him that awkward one-armed back pat? some people say “maybe mike knows will likes him and doesn’t want to lead him on.” okay, but mike doesn’t know will is gay. he doesn’t. and if he was worried about leading him on, then why is he being so soft and flirty in both bedroom scenes later? it doesn’t add up. the hug hesitation makes way more sense if mike’s trying to suppress feelings he doesn’t fully understand or isn’t ready to admit.

☆“you never say it” vs. “you didn’t have to” ☆

yeah, obviously. this was what convinced me personally to start shipping byler. because what clearer of a parallel do you need? watching mike and el’s fight scene vs. mike and wills bedroom scene is just pure perfection. we clearly see that mike struggles with affirming el’s needs, because he isn’t verbally able to say what she needs him to say. they struggle with communication in that way. in mike and wills scene, we honestly see the complete opposite. even without will saying anything to mike about how he was acting, mike still understood and didn’t even need him to say anything. there’s a mutual understanding between the two of them that el and mike don’t have. you all know this, idk why im explaining this lmao.

☆mikes reaction to el kissing him in season 3 finale☆

this one hit me hard. so let’s break this down: the girl he’s supposedly been obsessed with all summer kisses him, tells him she loves him too, and his reaction is… to keep his eyes wide open during the kiss and say nothing back? even though he knows she’s about to move across the country? and then when she walks away, the look on his face is just… not what you’d expect from someone who's finally “gotten the girl.” it’s not happy. it’s confused. and it’s not just the kiss, the whole final montage feels off. mike’s standing in front of a closet when she kisses him. el is literally holding will’s bear while they kiss. symbolically, it’s like will is between them. it doesn’t feel triumphant or romantic — it feels heavy and unresolved.

and now here’s a minor thing that kind of makes me doubt sometimes:

☆the duffer brothers having to cater to the GA. ☆

i 100% believe byler should be canon- and honestly, it would be queerbaiting if it doesn’t happen. but i have to admit, a lot of the GA don’t pick up on the subtle queer coding around mike wheeler’s character. i’m saying this from a somewhat biased perspective, based on what my own family and peers (who are very much part of the GA) have said about how they interpreted season 4. most of them picked up on the fact that will is in love with mike, and that he lied about the painting- which, great! that part wasn’t exactly subtle. but when it comes to mike, most of them interpreted his love confession to el as totally sincere, and a big turning point in their relationship. a lot of them say stuff like, “it’s sweet that will loves mike, but mike’s never shown interest back, so it wouldn’t make sense for byler to happen in season 5.” now obviously, we don’t agree with that- we’ve seen the deeper queer coding in mike’s behavior, his hesitations, his repression, the emotional weight of his moments with will. but the GA tends to take things at face value, and i can unfortunately see the duffer brothers trying to cater to them by going for an ending that feels “safe” or “clear” to the widest audience possible. and that would honestly really suck. i don’t want to believe they’d do that, but at the same time, i wouldn’t be shocked if they did.
