Hey! So I'm nearing platinum #200 (at 196 now) and I've narrowed down a handful of games to pick from for the milestone:

1. Assassin's Creed II

2. A Plague Tale: Requiem

3. Death Mark II

4. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

5. Red Dead Redemption (the PS4 port of the original game)

He was just Simon to you. Just a neighbor at first. Someone you waved to at the grocery store.

Occasionally, you'd catch him sitting in his window reading a book and drinking tea. He was someone you wondered about.

Always had a hello for you, but you struggled to find a foothold for a conversation.

Then he invited you over one night for dinner. His house was not what you expected—filled with books and vinyl. The walls covered in framed concert posters, old oil paintings, and watercolors. There was an album on, low enough to talk comfortably over. It was there to fill the space. You were sure you recognized the beat but couldn't quite place it.

At the time, you didn't know that it was one of his habits. Fill his empty home with a soft sound to try to drown out the quiet.

Or his thoughts.

Where his thoughts drifted to in the silence when he was alone, you didn't know. Didn't talk about it, but you could make your own assumptions. As soon as you saw the scars, you had an idea of what kind of life he led before. But he never talked about it, and you never asked.

Resident Evil at 29

Today marks 29 years of Resident Evil, a franchise that not only helped define the survival horror genre but also has very special place in my creative soul. It’s more than just a series of games—it’s a cornerstone of my imagination, a source of inspiration that first stirred my desire to create horror stories of my own. It's the reason I met @ohgeesoap, @loser-sons and @omkdear lifelong friendships.

The atmosphere, the tension, the haunting quiet of a hallway just before all hell breaks loose—Resident Evil taught me how horror could be immersive, intelligent, and deeply emotional.

But as much as I love this series—and I truly do—it’s hard not to feel a lingering frustration. Having been a fan since the beginning, I’ve witnessed its evolution firsthand. I’ve celebrated its highs, endured its lows, and held onto hope during every reinvention. Yet now, nearly three decades in, it’s bittersweet. The potential that once felt boundless has too often been squandered. The main storyline, once intriguing with the promise of something more, has become predictable and convoluted. There’s a huge stagnation when it comes to the legacy cast—a sense that the heart of the story has been lost under layers of spectacle and missed opportunities.

I still believe in what Resident Evil represents. Its legacy is untouchable. But part of loving something means wanting more for it—wanting it to reach the heights you know it's capable of. And maybe that's why it still inspires me: because in its brilliance and its flaws, it reminds me of the kind of stories I want to tell. Ones that evolve, resonate, and never forget what made them special to begin with.

Happy 29th, Resident Evil. I’m grateful. I’m hopeful. And yes—I’m still watching.
