I was just sitting at the bar and this dude was yelling about Starbucks and pizza and I was not listening, I was thinking about your message and how it was SO HARRY. Like…”I’m the queen of rock and roll”? How is that not Harry?

But then I came home and listened to the song again while deeply considering 1D and I realized that there is something more happening here, and that something is Niall. This song is Niall.

This song is Niall vacillating between being a FAN (being the stats guy, being a massive boyband fan, being starstruck at Michael Buble, house full of framed photos, “i’m gonna be goin around wearing 1D shirts when 1D is over”, “Do you ever get used to it?” “How could ya?”) and being Niall Horan, Rock Star. Guitar Hero. International Idol. 

I feel like the essence of Niall is that he is SO GOOD at toeing that line? Or existing fully in both worlds? I’m thinking of that instagram photo of him in his kitchen, cooking dinner like a cool regular dude while a TV plays security footage from his property. 

I think that Niall is very self-contained and doesn’t need the attention or the celebrity. Not in the way that Harry does. It doesn’t define him. But I also think that it makes him genuinely happy to play the part of an IDOL (To connect with fans and to be an object of adulation and to perform to sold out stadiums) because he knows what it is to have an idol. I don’t know. Maybe I am not articulating this very well, but Niall is like a walking paradox to me. He keeps himself to himself but also puts so much of himself out there. He fulfills the roll of a perfect rockstar while maintaining the appreciative innocence of a superfan. He is so open, and so closed and so intentional. He’s my Joey Ramone.

Hahaha oh man, IT DID NOT. I had forgotten they used steaktanic in Happy Endings! But 100% of the credit for that joke goes to miss-bennie and I just checked with her to make sure I wasn't missing any important inside jokes but she confirmed: it's a straight-up Titanic joke! EPIC MOVIES FROM OUR YOUTH, REAPPEARING IN OUR FANFICTON. I assume our next joint will feature references to like, Now & Then or Ferngully or Romeo + Juliet (the Claire Danes version).
