you know how to love me the best. - mal
it’s another act of defiance , the way he instantly moves to disagree with her . his head sits in her lap , face presses into her stomach and gets tickled by the presence of thin , peach colored body hair , it makes his nose playfully scrunch up . you know how to love me the best . it has him adjusting to wrap muscled arms around her waist , and squeeze , squeeze her close until it can arch her back . he doesn’t know how to love her gently . he doesn’t know how to meet soft skin with equally soft touches . he doesn’t know how to kiss her without the clink of metal against teeth or the taste of blood flushing his mouth . his love comes with the leveling of her body , with love bites that break the skin and with curses that sever her soft moans in two .
no , he doesn’t think that he loves her best , not in a way that she deserves . he doesn’t love her with soft lips pressed to lips . he snarls at the gloss that marks him even when a swipe of tongue rewards him with the flavor of his favorite fruit . he doesn’t bend easily for her , doesn’t submit in the way that makes her happy — in the way he knows would make her happy . it’s true , he loves her roughly , knows he doesn’t have to hold back with her , but the tinge of guilt floods his senses regardless . it’s not what she deserves , it’s not flowers or tea dates , but it lacks indifference . he loves jezebel with purpose , with her wrapped up in his claws without the intention of letting her go . his teeth dig into her , he leaves her marked , he leaves her belonging to the home in his heart , the place carved out in her image .
his palm lays flat upon the small of her back as he shifts his face to look up at her . " i love you selfishly . " like something territorial . " you’re growing soft . you’d usually say i love you like a wild animal . " his brow twists before he presses his face back into her stomach . " i’m not your rescue . you didn’t fucking save me . i don’t love you out of debt or loyalty . " he turns his face to press his cheek to her abdomen . " i love you like someone i’d drag to hell with me . " maybe that’s love in its truest form : mutual rot . vines that twist together until their beginning and end is untraceable. he loves her in the depths of the mutually assured destruction . wildly and roughly, but love for them . it’s toxic to say he loves her as he shakes her from between his teeth and , as eyes flutter closed in their position , he speaks as stubborn as his instinct to fight sleep . a sigh followed by a shake of his head . he shrugs . " i love you , jezebel , the best . " whatever the fuck that means , he ponders .

Happy Father's Day!
A Father's Day post for the best dad ever!
Third Sunday of June, and the second day of Nanami being out of city for a business trip. The first night he'd had to attend a long meeting, and on the second day he'd been all through town, which led him to not being able to check his pile of messages.
Finally, diving into the cozy embrace of his bed, he opened his chats to find your name on top. Hi darling, message me when you're free ok?
With a pang of guilt for making you wait so long, Nanami immediately opened your contact to find a charade of messages.
Hi sweetheart, have a safe travel!
Is there something I forgot to pack?
Send me pictures, okay?
I miss you already.
D/N said hello!
Don't overwork yourself, okay? Love you!
One by one, he replied to all of them, before sending two paragraphs of apology, and as if you were waiting for him, you immediately replied back.
Hi, Ken! It's good to hear from you! How's work?
It's fine. Tiring, honestly, he replied, and dull without the prospect of coming to you.
I know, darling, it's not home without you here either. Do you have time for a few minutes?
For you, sure.
With a heart reaction, you texted back, what's the date today?
Confused as to why you'd ask that with a house with three calendars and a phone, he nevertheless sent the date.
Do you know what's special?
Realizing the day today, he felt a smile creep on his face, but he wouldn't give in so easily.
Less than one month left to my birthday?
NO [Laughing emoji] okay guesses ended, here's the answer.
Immediately a video came, and as it loaded, your caption soon followed, was making a video to send to you, of course you'd be missing us (but you won't say it will you, you emotionally constipated human) and I'm so glad I made this!
Baffled over the term you used to describe his reserved nature, he opened the video to see you, and your one-year-old daughter lying down side by side, waving happily at the camera and just by the sight of it he felt he could melt. His smile grew wider as he saw you talking to her, her smiling face - exactly like his - babbling all sorts of noises back at you.
'You miss Papa?' you asked, and she nodded, a toothless smile emerging.
'I miss him too.' She kept looking at your face with the toothless grin. 'But I miss him more!' And that's when she attacked you with her little punches, making all these protesting noises, especially when you held both her punches with one hand, laughing. Even Kento couldn't help but laugh softly at this cuteness.
'Okay, let's then say I love you Papa!' Getting the indication, she tried to babble after you, but only bubbles of drool escaped as she couldn't get the words out, so she clapped instead.
'Do you know, it's Papa day!' You tell her. 'Let's say it, ok? Happy Father's Day!'
'Papa!'
Both your, in the video, and his jaw dropped the moment she sweetly said the word out loud, and began waving her fists while repeating it, 'papa, papa, papa!'
He re-winded it, and brought it close to his ear just to hear she said it right. You, gaping open mouthed at her, finally squealed and over a fit of cuteness aggression, began kissing her round cheeks hard and fast. "You said your first word! Wait till Papa sees this!"
The moment the video ended, seeing you still online, he rang you up, and the next minute, you picked it, your glee audible through your voice. "How was the surprise?"
"You're full of them, but it was the best ever. Though I'll show you how much I liked it when I come home."
You responded with a giddy laugh. "How does it feel to be her first word?"
"Unable to put accurately in words." he closed his eyes, relishing the sound in his ears.
"Of course," you grumbled. "I'll be her second word."
"We can have another for you to be their first."
"Took you long enough to suggest that," he heard your chuckle. Steering the conversation, he asked, "did she say it again?"
"Nah, she's gone all shy since that vide- Oh, here she is! D/N, wanna talk to Papa?"
He felt like he could love you two all over again as he heard her excited squeals, and the moment you said, 'over to her', he gently said, "hello, princess."
Babbles.
"Do you recognize me?"
More babbles.
"Who is it?" your voice came from the background, prompting her. and then with one loud laugh, she said, "Papa!"
He didn't know if he would have any more kids again, or if his name will be their first word, but if this is what his name sounded like, if just one word could fill his heart with so much love, he'll always come back to this one moment.

WIP Weekend
Thanks for the tags @vthx @sourw0lfs and @hbyrde36 (one of these days I will remember to make this post on Thursday evening to be ready)!
Rules: Send me an emoji in an ask, and I'll write 3-5 sentences and/or paragraphs from that WIP. No limits to the amount of emojis you can request, please feel free to send multiple
🐶 B.A.D. D.O.G. (sequel to the college AU puppy play Stomeddie/Stommie fic) is nearly there! I need to finish fleshing out Tommy and Steve's original relationship a bit more.
🧜♂️ Participating in the STMonsterCalendar Mermay Bingo event, with 2/4 fics for this completed so far. Just the SFW paired buckingham/steddie fics to finish. The Munver (TigerFreak) fic and M/E-rated Steddie fic may pop up too as I edit those this weekend.
🏴☠️ Eddierotica: "Eddie writes the world's worst erotica about characters who are just poorly disguised versions of himself and Steve. They're not dating." continues! This week may involve a lot more Steve descending into madness as he reads. 💥Steddie Big Bang: Secret fic is almost at 4k now, and we are in the middle of a particularly fun scene involving [redacted]. This can't be publicly shared yet, so if you send in this emoji feel free to pick another fic as well, and I'll write 3 sentences for both. Tagging a few folks to join in the fun too:
@queenie-ofthe-void @yesdangerpls @onirislanding @felixir-of-moths
@hitlikehammers @augustjustice @eriquin @fkinkindagauche @strangerthingswritersguild Enjoy a NSFW snippet from 🏴☠️ below the cut featuring Eddie's ADHD brain at work
The prince took off his shirt. Edmund swallowed, staring at rippling abs that galloped like the stallions he took care of daily. He hoped the prince was equally hung. His majesty noticed him staring and smiled, hands aloft before Edmund’s still-laced trousers. "Stable boy, you are of course familiar with the stoplight system, yes?" The prince asked of Edmund. "Yes my liege. Red means stop, yellow means slow down or pause, and green means go! Also my name is Edmund sire, if you wish to call me that.” “You are such a perfect boy,” the prince cooed much like a dove would. “And, Edmund the stable boy, do you have a safe word?” “Yes your excellency. It is 'Charizard'." "I shall endeavor to remember that," the prince replied. "Consent is something I strive for in every sexual encounter. Otherwise I could very well have accidentally triggered you!" After a moment in which they both considered the importance of consent, the prince laid Edmund down among the hay and finally undid the laces upon his trousers. His slightly smaller larger than average cock sprang up begging for attention. The prince freed his own well-endowed girthy length and rubbed it against Edmund’s to let the two of them get to know each other. “Why Edmund the stable boy, it would appear they like each other!” The prince exclaimed. It was true: their penises were wriggling and drooling in excitement. Edmund scooped some of their pre-ejaculate up with his fingers and licked. The taste was delectable. Like the finest candy, if candy was slightly bitter. So really, it was licorice (the real kind, not Twizzlers). Edmund whimpered. “Oh sheriff, please, free me from such exquisite torment!” The sheriff gets rougher with Edgar the outlaw, stroking the two of them easily with one of his big ol’ bear paw hands. Wait, what? When did a sheriff come in? Steve reread the page. Huh, Eddie must’ve gotten bored halfway through writing or something. He shrugged to himself and started jerking off again, this time picturing ass-less chaps and hats instead of robes and crowns: “Calm down little filly,” the sheriff says, slowing down. He smiles when Edgar whimpers and tries to rut against his large mitts. “Not that I’m misgenderin’ y’all, yer obviously a colt. This is jus’ foreplay for us Western folk.”

Stuff That Helps Me Write: Pacing (no, not that kind), and burnout avoidance
So this was supposed to be about something entirely different., but every time I started making a point, I got distracted by a second, bonus idea (ways to trick your brain when it's not cooperating with you! things I've tried (I will try everything) and what worked and didn't! what to do with writer's block!) and then start writing about that, and I've got half a dozen unrelated paragraphs going in my drafts, so I think I'm just going to make this a mini-series of 'stuff that helps me write and may also help you (or maybe they won't, I don't know, this shit's all subjective)'.
If there's anything in particular you'd like to hear about, or something about my process you're curious about, absolutely feel free to reply or shoot me an ask and I'll do my best to address them as I go.
But yeah, pacing. And more specifically, not burning out. I figured it was important I hit this one first, because I think it's the most important one, or at least, the one that makes the biggest difference.
With the caveat that I am someone who has repeatedly driven myself into burnout, I'm also someone who now knows why that is, and have been teaching myself how to, you know, not do that.
So. Here's how I, you know, don't do that.
Will preface this by again mentioning that most writing advice (and advice in general) never seemed to work for me, and I mostly thought I was just Bad at Doing Things, until I learned my brain's literally wired differently, and that I'd been trying to apply processes that didn't actually work for said wiring.
So instead, I figured out what worked for me. And what works for me isn't necessarily what will work for you, or even what will work for me a month or five years down the line, but it's going okay right now.
I'll straight up say that, contrary to all the Writing Advice, I don't write every day, and I don't think it's necessary, or even necessarily a good idea -- I have at times, but I no longer do, because if I write for more than six days straight I find the proverbial well dries up and I write less than I do had I just taken a break when I needed it.
Cognitive energy and the sort of ephemeral ~inspiration (work that's been done on a subconscious level) are fundamentally no different than physical energy: if you don't replenish it, you will run out. If you overdo it, you will run out. If you consistently overdo it without replenishing it, you will burn out.
Taking a page from hockey players here: if you did an intense workout right before a game they'd ask what the fuck was the matter with you. You need a nap and a meal and to get some stretching and light work in. Running at 100% all the time will burn you out in every single field, including this one.
That's not me saying not to run at 100% at all. I generally try to pace myself now, but if I'm really in it, and the words are coming easily, I don't stop until they stop -- I wrote just shy of 4k of later scenes for SAIT last week (my 2024 record!), all in one sititng, by hand, when I was supposed to be sleeping, because that's when the inspiration came. I didn't fall asleep until past 6am that night, and my hand is still mad at me.
But you know how much writing I got done the follow day? (None, I was busy transcribing 4k of handwriting). The rest of this week? (Not much more than that). Those bursts of energy are awesome, and honestly can make you feel like a writing god, but the well's the well, and I've learned my personal well is about 5000 words a week deep.
Before my most recent scrape with autistic burnout, which I'm still sort of climbing my way out of, that well was closer to 7500 words. But honestly, it probably wasn't; I was likely just siphoning words from future wells and then it all caught up with me when I was looking at a horizon of dry-ass wells ahead of me. (I'll admit this isn't a perfect metaphor.)
But seriously, my advice for basically everything, not just writing (and something I wish I'd learned before I hit my 30s), is 'figure out what pace you can work at sustainably'.
Please note that 'sustainably' is not 'without literally dying'. Because my literal ass thought when people said 'give it 100%' they meant, you know, 'give it 100%' (I know! absurd of me), rather than 'give the best effort you can give in this moment considering your current resources'. So I gave it my all (also interpreted that one wrong I guess?). And then I wondered why I kept hitting a wall all the time. And why, eventually, I stopped being able to climb that wall entirely.
I don't think I'm ever going to reach that 7500 word threshold again. There will be weeks I'm so inspired I write that much, but the next week I probably won't manage more than 2500. Or maybe I'll have two 7500 weeks in a row, but I'll need to take a whole week off after that, or spend several weeks working at a lower tempo while I let the well replenish itself.
I've been tracking some metrics quite closely as I sort of tweak my life into its new shape (said shape being 'do the best you can given your resources') , and during my most productive month of this year I wrote 3x as much as the worst (writing wise, I was finalising publication at the time), my current weekly average is about 4800 words. Sometimes it's a bit higher or lower, sometimes much higher or lower, but that's what I can sustainably do right now.
Frankly, I'm a little cranky about this: I know I can do more, because I did do more. But my priority now is not to send myself straight back into burnout again, so when I sprint, it's just that, rather than my previous 'trying to run a marathon at the pace of a sprinter'. I'm writing less than I used to, but it's honestly not that much less: because the pace is sustainable rather than boom and bust, I don't run myself ragged enough to desperately need a break.
I'm aware this advice only works if you have control over your own time, and a schedule that doesn't force you to focus on writing say, one day a week, or around other obligations, but the only real workaround for burnout is consistency, and that consistency cannot be your maximum.
Or, it can, but I guarantee you that will bite you in the ass at some point, and the pain of not getting enough done is nothing compared to the pain of not being able to get anything done because your nervous system threw up its hands and decided if you weren't going to listen to their clues (feelings, symptoms) or their warnings (Feelings, Symptoms) that you were overdoing it, they were going to shut your ass down until you listened.
0/10 do not recommend.
Next week: how to trick your brain into doing shit that it doesn't feel like doing, even though it's onto all your tricks by now. Or at least, how I trick mine.

info post! 🍓
hi! I'm an 19 year old roleplayer with 6 years of experience! this pinned post covers my rules for roleplay and what I'm interested in! please please please ensure you read my rules before reaching out to me!
rules! 🍓
- I will only roleplay with people 18 and over! sorry but this is not negotiable.
- I'm pretty much exclusively writing oc x canon double ups! I will not be writing a canon character for your oc if you are not doing the same for me.
- most of my ocs are female so my side of the rp will generally be fxm, fxf or f x other. I'm fine with my partner having male ocs ofc, I just don't have any myself and I'm aware that's an issue for some people.
- I would categorise my writing as semi lit/lit. I don't really like to set an expected amount of how much I write because it varies depending on my partner, my humour, and the plot. however, I generally do at the very least 3 paragraphs, I just don't force myself to write tons if I'm not feeling it because at the end of the day this is just a hobby.
- I do not tolerate partners who try to control my oc's actions in the roleplay, I find it incredibly annoying.
- please do not criticise my ocs unless I ask, even if it's constructive criticism. if I want advice on how to improve an oc I will ask.
- I am okay with nsfw but I don't enjoy rps where that's the entire plot. I also only write nsfw with adult characters!!!!
- as a general rule I'll willing to try and write any character for my partner, but if I do say no to a character, it's probably because I've tried to write them before and have not enjoyed it. that or it's a character I just refuse to protray (eg- mori, bsd)
additional info! 🍓
- I am in gmt timezone!
- I am a full time college student with a part time job at the weekend. if I'm not answering you, I'm probably not ignoring you, I'm probably busy or asleep.
- I roleplay on discord primarily. I will roleplay on tumblr if my partner doesn't use discord but I'm not on tumblr that often so replies will be less frequent here.
- I write third person only!
fandoms! 🍓
congratulations if you made it this far hehe.. anyways here's a list of various fandoms that I'm interested in!
the character names in brackets are characters I'm looking for someone to play for me.

NAME: Lizard. Some shorten it to Liz and I'm on board with that but while I'm yet to stumble upon someone else using a nickname 'Lizard', I have seen 'Liz' before.
PRONOUNS: You have not reached the friendship lever required to unlock that info :p Seriously though, this is something I and Emil have in common, we use 'she/her' personally, but couldn't care less what others use for us, especially on the internet out of all places. You don't even know my real name! (except those who did PayPal with me because PayPal is a snitch >.>)
MOST ACTIVE MUSE(S): Emil. She has been since her creation more than a decade ago and I foresee she will continue her iron grip on me for years to come. I might fixate over other muses - like Paper recently - but it usually goes away after a couple of days and they need to compete against her again till another spell of fixation comes around.
RP PET PEEVES: Overuse of epithets, and the time travels to reply to something that should have passed, but those are old and tired and while it's not a pet peeve I want to highlight something odd I noticed recently that got me worried: WHY ARE PEOPLE ASKING ME IF THEY CAN SEND ME IM'S OR ASKS? Has something happened in those 2 years I wasn't RPing on tumblr? What happened to the gleeful attitude of sending people you barely interacted with random stuff at 3am? YES you can send me stuff and it breaks my little cold heart that you feel the need to ask me in the first place! What tragedy has occurred that people now feel the need to ask??? Are we going to start asking if we can follow someone next?
So anyway, have a snack 🍪☕
EXPERIENCE/HOW MANY YEARS: I joined tumblr with Emil's blog on 14th of February 2014 and you can bet the only reason I remember the exact date is because it was a Valentine's Day in a Very Valentine's Day looking year. If it had been 2015 or 2013, I wouldn't be sure what year it was. I was pretty consistent for most of that time but then took about 2 years long break and came back this last December... And probably the only reason I'll remember the year will be because it was 2024, so exactly 10 years after joining.
FLUFF, ANGST, or SMUT: Action xD I have and will write all three of those but if you really want to grasp my attention with a thread, give me action. Let's make our muses have some specific goal in mind they are working together towards. Fluff and Angst are fun to write but only if our muses are close enough for it to actually matter and affect both of them. Not much point in me writing Emil's void state if your muse is not gonna care, is there? And I have a love-hate relationship with my smut writing: no matter what I write, it feels plastic and fake to me, but I want to get better at it and I won't get better if I don't write it. So yeah, Emil does one-night stands and I'm fine with writing them but... yeah, don't expect it to be good >.>
LONG/SHORT REPLIES: I can do anything, from one liners to novellas (I have written replies that were over 1K words). I usually mirror the length the partner gave me, but if they mirror me too, we probably will end up with multi paragraph length; something like 3-6 paragraphs.
BEST WAY TO INTERACT: Burst in like Kool-Aid and throw asks and IMs at me. Off with the 'but what if I annoy them?' BS. I post a lot of memes for you all to use and abuse. I post starter calls too - like them. There's a bunch of open starters that await replies and reblogs (but don't just leave a like on those; what am I to do with a like???)
BEST TIME TO WRITE: I like mornings the best but oh, guess what, 5/7 mornings are taken by my work xD I'm lucky enough to work a remote office job so I can sneak in a small reblog here and there, but yeah, can't really do much writing then >.> So I tend to write in afternoons; after I worked, ate and watched a video, or two.

22NB here finally getting into NBCs Hannibal!! I'm a Novella writer over discord, with my average ranging anywhere from 2 long paragraphs to 8 or more moderately sized one, though for less detailed and more dialogue heavy scenes, I keep it around 4 or 5 to still keep the flow of things going.
I am, of course, looking for a Hannigram plot (Hannibal Lecter x Will Graham), and I'm open to setting the plot anywhere in the first, second, or third season, even post-fall, or I am also open to an au entirely- though I'd definitely like to keep some of the... Key aspects the characters possess, if you understand what I mean (hehe)! I love to brainstorm, share inspos and playlists, and make friends- so if you're looking for someone to gush about this ship/show with, you've found them.
I'm open to NSFW themes and scenes, and limits can be discussed as soon as we start chatting in DM. As for what character I'd like to write, well... I am open to either! I feel that I'd be more comfortable writing Will, but Hannibal also seems like fun, so whatever's your fancy, we can do. All I ask is that you are someone who is patient and understanding, as I can get busy, and have health issues that can at times prevent me from replying daily. That being said, I shoot for once a week at the least, and every other day to daily at the most- I always keep my partners informed, so no worries there, and always feel free to poke me if it's been a bit.
Please like this and I'll shoot you a message! I'm looking forward to plotting! 🍷

Italics anon: Apologies in the delay in reply! And thank you SO SO MUCH for your beautifully detailed reply and links - glad to know that you also saw that discourse and I did not make it up in my head lol (discourse can get so wild). Thank you for explaining the discourse + your opinion, it’s really really helpful. I’ve been flipflopping on whether to italicise certain terms (just nouns, not idioms like you’ve touched on) and this solidified my decision on not italicising. Sidenote: “culturally sinicised” is so interesting (thinking abt this as someone who grew up in singapore). Also 100% agree on the less-innocent end – every time I see shidi incest discourse I’m just so utterly over it lol (I’ve actually never seen the debates on filial piety, is that mdzs or another fandom?)
Your paragraph on italicisation and deeper biases is so well written!! Would you happen to have any recommended texts on orientalism? (i’ve read Said’s book and it was very good but wondering if there are chinese-specific texts)
Thank you sm for the in-depth reply and multiple reblogs, I really appreciate your time and effort. Hope you have a nice day!
no worries for the delay! i entirely understand—real life happens, and tumblr simply isn't necessarily a priority (which isn't a bad thing!). i'm glad you found my explanation useful! (also "culturally sinicised" is 100% a term made up by me, because frankly i can't think of a better, succinct way to explain [waves at my entire background] lol)
in response to the shidi incest, i've found it's a larger issue with people taking "familial terms" as literal, which isn't............how chinese/culturally-sinicised people generally view these terms/relationships? it's the same in my specific west asian culture too, you use "familial" terms for people you're not related to in any blood way, but i've found that a lot of westerners or western-raised people tend to be really weirded out by this. it spawns so much fucking discourse and never fails to give me a headache, honestly—it seems like no matter how often you say "no, that doesn't mean they're literally related or even think of themselves as adopted relations", people just don't listen :') (and yes, the filial piety discourse i think is fairly mdzs-specific, just because mdzs is one of/the most popular translated cnovels with filial piety as a major theme—the fucking number of times i've watched my mutuals and people i follow repeatedly lay out why characters do xyz due to/in line with the cultural concept of filial piety, rather than xyz thing that western fans think they should have done, is frankly exhausting.)
i'll be honest i've probably read an academic paper here or there, but i don't remember them off the top of my head—most of what i wrote in reply to your previous ask was a synthesis of things that i've read and the experiences i've had. but in specific to orientalism and china, you might find these texts interesting, though they are not necessarily on the topic of italicisation and orientalism (though many are on media and orientalism, or translation and orientalism, with focus on china/chinese, since i suspect that your interests probably align that way). putting these under the cut because i'm realising this got REALLY long :') (also i don't necessarily agree with all of the texts here, but i think that all of them have something important to offer on the topic.)(also also, if you can't get ahold of any of these, let me know because i can probably get you a copy!)
-- Orientalism Writes Back: Discourses of 'Chinese' DissemiNationalism in Transnational Martial Arts Films by Chan Shaoyi (International journal of Taiwan studies, 2018-08, vol. 1 (2), p. 353-369)
This essay revisits Edward Said's famous conception of Orientalism and places it against the context of transnational Chinese cinemas, in particular Hong Kong and Taiwan cinemas, to examine how the concept is unpacked and reconstructed in a way that is often described as 'self-Orientalism'-the self-exoticising of local fabrics to satiate Western consumers. Focusing on three films, Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle (2004), Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), and Hou Hsiao-hsien's The Assassin (2015), I argue that the act of self-Orientalising, rather than a passive submission to Western spectatorship, has served to rewrite and recode the idea of Chinese nationalism to present an alternative form of nationalism which I call dissemiNationalism and an alternative discourse to the mainland-centric narrative.
-- Orientalism and occidentalism: two forces behind the image of the Chinese language and construction of the modern standard by Helena Casas-Tost, Sara Rovira-Esteva (Journal of multicultural discourses, 2009-07, vol. 4 (2), p. 107-121)
This article identifies the principal myths and misconceptions surrounding the Chinese language and, by means of discourse analysis, shows how they have been expressed and become entrenched in the academic world, both in China and in the West, despite the evidence which undermines the premises on which these myths are founded. We also show how these views originated from applying a Western linguistic model to descriptions and reforms of the Chinese language, thus, reinforcing the orientalist discourse on Chinese that still persists and has permeated the Chinese language teaching. We tackle these issues from a Spanish perspective at a time when the country is experiencing important educational changes at three levels. First, there is an increase in courses on Chinese Studies. Second, European university curricula are undergoing a process of homogenisation. And, third, a new policy to standardise language learning, teaching and assessment at all stages of education is being implemented all over Europe. We are concerned about this policy because the model designed for European languages is also being applied to non-European languages. We believe that this new context is an ideal occasion to question existing discourses and bring forth new approaches towards the production and reproduction of knowledge related to the Chinese language.
-- Confucian Orientalism and Western Outlook in Martial Arts Film by Stephen Teo (Journal of Chinese Film Studies, 2021-05, vol. 1 (1), p. 65-82)
This paper discusses the martial arts genre with reference to the films of the Japanese master Kurosawa Akira and the Chinese director Zhang Yimou, discussing how both directors converge in their themes and styles through the concept of “Eastern Orientalism.” Such Orientalism is based on Confucian precepts of (rectification of names), chaos theory, and the defense of the people undertaken by militaristic but heroic individual protagonists (samurai or xia). In raising the issue of Orientalism, the paper probes into the Western perceptions of the genre and the imperative of directors like Kurosawa and Zhang in pandering to Western tastes. However, these same directors seem equally preoccupied with fostering a sense of self and nationalistic expression in their response to and treatment of Orientalized content. The paper concludes with a discussion on (2016) as a comparative review of the Western and Eastern viewpoints at play in the US-China co-production. Here the analysis revolves around the issue of sameness, dramatized as a main theme in the film.
-- Cartography and Orientalism in late imperial China by Angelo Maria Cimino (International communication of Chinese culture, 2020-09, vol. 7 (3), p. 395-406)
The Opium wars epitomize a crucial moment in Chinese history, a turning point that globally affected all countries involved, the Qing dynasty and the Western powers, which witnessed radical political, economic and social changes both internally and in their international relations. Recognizing that orientalism with its corollary of studies, researches, travel impressions, beliefs, stories, and popular gossips about China and the Orient in general, is a pervasive form of knowledge which has a political nature, means agreeing on the fact that the Western knowledge upon the Orient has been an agency for the action that has followed, namely imperialism and colonialism, which in turn led to the Opium wars. Geography became the scientific side of such knowledge. As a matter of fact, the moment in which geography embraced the cold geometries of cartography, it turned into a tremendous support to the knowledge process pertaining to the Orientalism. A process driven by mere political and commercial interests, and deceitfully expressed in the popular culture of those Western societies and countries which supported and had colonies in the Far East.
-- Orientalism, modernism, and the American poem by Robert Kern (1996)
Orientalism, Modernism, and the American Poem is a critical and historical interpretation of "Oriental" influences on American modernist poetry. Kern equates Fenollosa and Pound's "discovery" of Chinese writing with the American pursuit of a natural language for poetry; what Emerson had termed the "language of nature." This language of nature is here shown to be a mythic conception continuous with the Renaissance idea of the language of Adam - a language in which things themselves are also signs. Analyzing and contextualizing the nineteenth-century works of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Ernest Fenollosa and the twentieth-century creations of Ezra Pound and Gary Snyder, Kern sheds light on the three contemporary nexuses of his search: the cultural study of Orientalism and the West, the evolution of Indo-European linguistic theory, and the intellectual tradition of American modernist poetry
-- With What Voice Does China Speak? Sinology, Orientalism and the Debate on Sinologism by Pedro Sobral (Journal of Chinese humanities, 2023-06, vol. 9 (2), p. 215-243)
Abstract The arrival of postcolonial theory in China and the country's global rise came with the realization that its self-image is often distorted by Western ideological discourse, conveyed through Western Sinology. Drawing from Edward Said's Orientalism, some Chinese scholars have classified the ideological dimensions of Western Sinology as Sinologism, and have pointed out its implications for China's capacity to think of itself on its own terms. The concept has sparked debate mainly inside Chinese academia about the objective quality of Western Sinology. This article will attempt a critical overview of two major formulations of Sinologism, underlining its major presuppositions and placing the notion in the broader context of China's anxieties of "academic colonization" by Western intellectual practices. It will conclude by arguing that attempts to discredit Western Sinology rely on some problematic assumptions and suggests East-West comparative studies as an alternative way of dialectically constructing Chinese identity.
-- Mulan’s Cultural Journey to the West: From a Chinese Heroine to a Globalized Figure by He He (Theory and practice in language studies, 2024-03, vol. 14 (3), p. 912-917)
Disney’s live-action Mulan (2020) was adapted from the animated Disney film Mulan (1988) and has caused heated discussion after its release. The film successfully wins the Western market because it incorporates Western elements, such as the image of the Xianniang from the legendary story. However, Chinese audiences fail to fully accept the rewriting of traditional Chinese heroine in this live-action film because it partly subverts the content of Chinese legend. From the perspective of Said’s Orientalism, this paper discusses the interpretation of Chinese elements in the film, such as Phoenix, qi, and the traditional Chinese ethics of loyalty, courage, truth, and filial piety, intending to reveal the operation of cultural capital in the international cultural market of film and television in a more comprehensive way. This paper will further discuss that the canonization of Mulan sheds some enlightenment on how to introduce more Chinese literary works into the world as part of world literature.

-- Chinese Dreams: (Self-)Orientalism and Post-Orientalism in the Reception and Translation of Liu Cixin's ThreeBody Trilogy by Gwennaël Gaffric (Fanyi Xuebao [Journal of Translation Studies], 2019-01, vol. 3 (1), p. 117)
After receiving the Hugo Award in 2015 for the English translation of The Three-Body Problem, Liu Cixin's Three-Body trilogy and its translations into a large number of languages have been a massive success, prompting many reactions and much praise. In this article, I attempt to discuss first the global processes of translation and reception of Liu's novels beyond China. I particularly focus on the Orientalist imaginary conveyed by the publication of the trilogy, at a time when Chinese science fiction has become a tool for the Chinese soft power strategy based on the culturalist and nationalist discourse of the "Chinese Dream." I also examine the reception in China of the success of Liu Cixin's translations, and the way in which Chinese media and officials are also engaging in a process of self-Orientalization. In a the second phase, I try to question the task and the strategy of the translators when confronting these Orientalist projections: how does a translator makes himself or herself an accomplice of these fantasies, and how can she/he engage in a post-Orientalist or antiOrientalist approach? This reflection is illustrated by concrete examples from my own translation of Liu Cixin's trilogy into French.
-- Disorienting Politics: Chimerican Media and Transpacific Entanglements by Fan Yang (2024)
Disorienting Politics mines 21st-century media artifacts—including films like The Martian and TV/streaming media shows such as Firefly and House of Cards—to make visible the economic, cultural, political, and ecological entanglements of China and the United States. Describing these transpacific entanglements as “Chimerica”—coined by economic historians to reference the symbiosis of China and America—Yang examines how Chimerican media, originating in the US but traversing national boundaries in their production, circulation, and consumption, co-create the figure of rising China and extend a political imagination beyond the conventional ground of the nation. Examining how Chimerican media are shaped by and perpetuate uneven power relations, Disorienting Politics argues that the pervasive tendency among wide-ranging cultural producers to depict the Chinese state as a racialized Other in American media life diminishes the possibility of engaging transpacific entanglements as a basis for envisioning new political horizons. Such othering of China not only results in overt racism against people of Asian descent, Yang argues, but also impacts the wellbeing of people of color more generally. This interdisciplinary book demonstrates the ways in which race is embedded in geopolitics even when the subject of discussion is not the people, but the (Chinese) state. Bridging media and cultural studies, Asian and Asian American studies, geography, and globalization studies, Disorienting Politics calls for a relational politics that acknowledges the multifarious interconnectivity between people, places, media, and environment.
-- The Historical Roots of Reverse Orientalism and Their Recapitulation in Wo Chang's "England through Chinese Spectacles" (1897) by Michael Hill (Asian Journal of Social Science, vol. 38, no. 5 (2010), p. 677-696)
The reverse Orientalism intrinsic to the "Asian Values" project of the 1980s is shown to have its origins in European thought of a much earlier period. Prominent scholars of the Enlightenment constructed a utopian image of oriental—principally Chinese—society which was deployed in stinging critiques of contemporary Europe. A cumulative inventory of this image is presented. There is a parallel critique of English society in the late nineteenth century in a work by "Wo Chang" which represents a spirited contribution to the literature of reverse Orientalism.
-- Magic, Modernity, and Orientalism: Conjuring representations of Asia by Christopher Goto-Jones (Modern Asian Studies, vol. 48, no. 6 (November 2014), p. 1451-1476)
This article inquires into the cultural and political nexus of secular (stage) magic, modernity, and Orientalism at the turn of the twentieth century. It argues that these three arenas interacted in important and special ways to both shape and reflect the politics of knowledge of the period. In doing so, it draws attention to the ways in which secular magic has been overlooked as a historical phenomenon and highlights its utility in furthering our understanding of the great problematics of modernity and Orientalism; in particular, it suggests that magic actually provides an unusually vibrant and clear lens through which to view the politics of the Other and through which to explore issues of tradition and the modern. Focusing on two historical cases—the 'Indian Rope Trick' challenge issued by the Magic Circle in the 1930s and the astonishing 'duel' between the 'Chinese' magicians Chung Ling Soo and Ching Ling Foo in 1905—this article considers the ways in which discourses of origination, popular ideas about esotericism and the 'mystic East', and questions of technical competence interacted and competed in the culture politics of the early twentieth ce

-- Sinologism in Language Philosophy: A Critique of the Controversy Over Chinese Language by Ming Donggu (Philosophy East and West, vol. 64, no. 3 (July 2014), p. 692-717)
Sinologism is basically a cultural unconscious in China-West studies predicated on an inner logic that operates beyond our conscious awareness but controls the ways of observing China and producing China scholarship. Its logic has exerted a profound impact on studies of Chinese language and writing. Since medieval times the difference between Chinese and Western languages has been viewed as a conceptual divide that separates Chinese and Western traditions. It has motivated scholars to generate a considerable array of ideas, views, and arguments on Chinese language and writing. These dazzling views operate on the logic of Sinologism: conditions of Chinese language are to be investigated from the Western linguistic point of view, and the nature of Chinese writing is to be determined in terms of Western alphabetic languages. This article reexamines the enduring controversy over the nature of Chinese language, especially writing, with the aim to see why the long-lasting debates have come to no satisfactory conclusion. By demonstrating how the epistemology and methodology predicated on phonocentrism and logocentrism in Western metaphysics have evolved into the logic of a language philosophy that manages to misunderstand and misrepresent Chinese language, especially writing, it explores how we can move out of the war of discourse and come to an adequate understanding of the true nature of Chinese language. It suggests that to be self-consciously aware of the hidden logic of Sinologism is the sine qua non for going beyond the war of discourse over Chinese language.
these are just a selection of things that i thought you might find most interesting; there's a fuckton more texts if you search on jstor (i've linked the specific search string that i used!) i hope that these resources are interesting to you, and if you ever want to speak further on the topic, my dms and asks are both open, so don't feel shy!

•°~BTS roleplay search~°•
Hello there fellow roleplayers, I'm looking for someone I can share my writing with and pass time. I am 18+ so no minors please. I'm currently only interested in doing BTS based roleplays for now but may expand later. Here's what I'm looking for:
Style
Third person
A minimum of two paragraphs. Detailed paragraphs largely preferred, but not required. The length of my replies vary from a few paragraphs to novella but I tend to match my partner!
It's understandable when you are stuck and unable to write much of anything. That happens to me too. If needed, we can always discuss what can be said to move on or it can be skipped altogether :)
Quality over quantity—please have effort when writing.
NO doubles. My brain can't comprehend it and it's a little overwhelming 😭
Activity
I may give one or two replies or more per day (depending on my desire to write, it could be less or more.). I'm patient with replies and won't pressure you for one and I expect the same treatment. I may give a gentle nudge/check up if it's been some time without any response and you may do the same.
Please tell me if and when you are not able to respond, especially for a long period of time. If it's something unexpected, I won't be upset if I don't hear anything so don't worry lol. I will do the same. I struggle with mental health issues and may need to take a couple mental breaks.
I understand that you will not be able to be online 24/7 as I will not be able to either.
Ships
I'm not picky, I do them all. Although my fav are the more popular and common ones; taekook, jikook, yoonmin, vmin...yk.
I'm also willing to play any member. However, I have most experience playing as maknae line + Yoongi.
Only member x member.
Platform
Discord only as I like to keep all my rps in one place. Though rping here on Tumblr is an exception if you don't have discord.
Other
I don't have any triggers except for extremely detailed gore (that I know of) but please do tell me yours if you have any just so I could avoid it because I usually incorporate some dark/angsty topics into my roleplays :) however, if it's a heavy topic, I usually like to check in first to make sure I won't upset you on accident! If I do happen to say something, please do tell me and I'll immediately fix it.
I could honestly go with or without smut so either way works for me! The only thing I ask for smut if that there needs to be an actual plot that goes with it and isn't pure smut. Also..no bathroom kinks. That's just gross, sorry not sorry.
Click here to see my list of tropes I enjoy writing (or would like to try) if you'd like to check that out. Be prepared because it's quite long lol. However, I'm always down for anything!! (Hint: I'm a huge fan of a good mix of fluff and angst) I also have many plots in my drifts I'd like to use.
Dm me if you are interested and have a lovely day <3

Feedback: Please feel free to publish this publically if you want.
Thank you so so much for my reading 🙏. It was beautiful 💙. I was so touched by the msg. I've actually been asking the same question from a lot of readers but I've never received any msg from my FS as my reply, I always get something else delivered, usually what I should be doing to improve my chances of meeting my FS :) I do understand that's because that's what the cards show them. That's why I was really losing hope and had been wondering to myself that my person has no msg for me? Really? Nothing at all? Thing is I suffer from severe social anxiety due to which I rarely go out and my house has sort of become my prison.
Anyways, moving on. The very first paragraph that you gave me hit a cord with me - "I know you're going through a lot right now, and you feel like maybe you're meant to be alone. But just know that rather than being meant to be alone, you're meant to be with me. It's selfish of me, I suppose, but there's a part of me that's slightly happy that if I ever meet you, I know that i'll be able to have you instead of us being kept apart." This is literally, literally what I think to myself as well. I mean it - literally, I think the exact same thing to myself to justify my eternal singlehood. Right at this first paragraph I was like whoa!
I also liked the part where you mentioned that he said our relationship will be build up with caution and that's what will provide us stability. Coz this is very, very apt for my age.
This line really made me very emotional, it's all I ever wanted to hear 😢 "I'm coming into your life as quickly as I can, though once i'm there, just know that I don't plan on letting you go." And then came this part and I was balling my eyes out 😭 "We'll find one another in the place where we feel most comfortable and when we do...Well, we will become the place where the other feels most comfortable."
I was awed when you mentioned that he said that he'll give me a stable home even though I might feel selfish asking for it. I've never ever gotten this from any reader, and it's so SO true! I come from a very chaotic family, unfortunately I still am in it. It's again one of the reasons I'm not able to find anyone coz I don't want to date locally, I want to go far away from here. And I want nothing else except for a small home cozy home with my husband, just the two of us, and spending the rest of our days in love, peace and happiness. But I do feel selfish expecting this from him. Coz in my mind I go like that's putting too much expectations on him and maybe i shouldn't be doing that. But then again, it's all I want, nothing more, nothing less. So my brain and my heart are in constant state of tussle over this. I was also shocked when you said that it doesn't matter that I don't have much experience, he'll always be by my side. Coz i actually don't have much experience in such matters coz of my severe anxiety, that is one of the reasons I have been wondering if maybe I'm not meant to experience that part of life, like at all. It was amazing that you said this 💙.
Just like your first paragraph, your last lines sealed the msg for me - "Sorry to keep you waiting, but just hold on a little bit longer. I'll make sure it's worth it." 💞 So so beautiful 💞. You have no idea just how much I wanted to hear these words from him 🥹.
Thank you so, so much for making my day 🙏. I'm so immensely grateful to you from the bottom of my heart 🙏. Wishing you the best in your tarot journey 🕊️
I’m glad you liked it! I’m also really glad it struck home and resonated with you. And just from the reading I can tell you and your FS are both amazing people who’ll be perfect together. I’m wishing you the best as well! 🫶🏽

Hello, Guidelines and Info
This is a Sideblog
Hey, I'm Mar! Any pronouns you feel like is good. I'm gonna be calling myself a woman, a guy and whatever I feel like. Muses here!
Here you'll find more about Me, and How and What I write :) Português lá no fim!! (em construção)
Me
I write in english and portuguese
Born in 1995. Will only write with adults, and all preferably 21+, ideally 25+.
Blog title is sea + labyrinth, because i was thinking of concepts i like and mashed words together like my brain works less than a bot. naming blogs is really hard. But this works (even if it sounds like a pokemon name)
I'm a huge nerd and am usually going on about a book, a game, a series or whatever else really
Timezone is GMT -3
I'll be liking from a blog called "mar0la"
Writing Hows
I've been writing for 11 years now
Only via discord! Love a cute organized server :)
Will only move to discord after we decided on plot and characters. I don't like having my discord full of people that don't talk to me and having to clean it every once in a while :/
Can use tupper or not
Can do short replies but would rather we have at least a full paragraph to work with. That said, if writing too much brings the rp to a halt let's just write :)
Only write OC's. I prefer to write males or masc coded people. favored dynamics are, in order, mxf, nbxf and fxf
Usual style is what I think it's called literate with like 2 or 3 paragraphs usually
I have a little trouble with certain letter and words sounds so it's possible I'll be making mistakes like trading "will" for "you" or stuff like "brief" for "breath". I usually pay attention but it happens, so let me know and I'll edit the reply
I don't currently want to join any groups as they take too much attention
Will be replying at least once a day but I usually manage to squeeze in 2 or 3 replies. Depends on partner speed too! :D
I will let you know if I'm in a particularly busy period of my life and we can either do shorter replies or wait a bit. Of course all the same goes for you!
OOC Communication
Love plotting and headcanoing together
Playlists, graphics, pinterest boards, art or just memes - whatever we talk about with our characters is fun
That said I truly would like to make friends and made some greats ones writing so I'll be open to talk about other things as well
It's a habit to say good morning and good night for me (if my adhd let's me remember) precisely because it keeps the rp and the partner fresh in my darn brain (and it's polite and I enjoy it :) ). It's not in any way, shape or form a sign that I'm pressuring you to write, ever
If you take longer to reply (always beyond 24 hours) I'll be asking if everything is okay and that's it
Writing Whats
Plot comes before anything for me and I'm looking to create worlds together
Also love romance, love shipping and that's always what I'm looking for the most, but without forcing anything and just having fun and seeing if the characters hit it off
I'm an artist and as such I'll always be more inclined to draw my characters or just stick to the descriptions on text
If you want a irl faceclaim from me, I'm probably just going to pick one from your own wanted opposite list
A partner can draw, have an irl faceclaim, use picrew or whatever other means they want of presenting their character
I prefer fantastic plots in some way or another over slice-of-life things. That means if the setting is modern there's got to be something else going on
It doesn't mean I won't write slice-of-life, it's just harder and I get slower
My favorite setting are fantasy (low or high), scifi stuff and I'd like to try at least one fresh apocalipse here and there tbh
I don't focus on smut ever, but I can write it if you really want to. Otherwise it's all fade to black and headcanons
Trigger Warnings and the such: I have no triggers for content except characters that smoke weed, specially if they keep talking about it. Otherwise it's all good. We can always talk about content deeper depending on the sort of rp we're planning to do!
WON'T WRITE: Serial killer/slasher, incest, abusive/toxic/mean spirited relationships im general - I'm all in for complex, angsty, grey area ships. Stuff like too much devotion or forbidden love and all. Just not obsessive, destructive, controlling etc
Ok I can't think of anything else so whatever you need to know, ask me!
That's all! Thank you for reading all the way here :)

thank you!!!!! and sorry for the late reply (i feel like i say this every ask i answer lately 😭 rip) 🩵
under the cut bc it got a little long
🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?
ohhh i don't remember exactly. the first fics i wrote with the intention of showing them to people were sanremo rpf :') they're still on my ao3 (except for one that i like hid? bc it makes me cringe so bad) i was just obsessed with metamoro and i've always loved writing so i guess i was like let me write about them. that's how i assume it went more or less lol but when i was very young i used to write what i would now call fics about my favorite football players. including like self insert? x reader? idk something like that. i don't remember anything about those except that i wrote them and that fernando torres was the star of many of them. there's probably still some somewhere at my parent's house
🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
well of course everything @fifteenloove wrote, particularly make it work i reread this one so often 😭😭 but also i wanna recommend a fic that's a little bit older and not a super popular ship so maybe people are less likely to stumble upon it: El Temperamento Del Mar Y Del Sol, this fic is so hot. that's it. no that's not it it's also so well written i love it. also another very hot one that's not a popular ship (like, this is literally the only fic in their tag) so i want to shout it out is Our little secret. and i know this said a fanfic and i already said 3 but i have to rec (re)ignite too because i don't even really enjoy reading about the jannik polycule (or poly relationships in general) but this one is sooo good. and i'll stop myself here bc i'm going to think of more and not be able to stop
🍬 ⇢ post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
well let's pretend jannik is a fandom character but i actually don't think he would enjoy being with multiple partners fjfcgfsj no shade tho i understand the fun of the whole polycule thing and it's not deep at all, probably not even an unpopular opinion bc most people don't actually think he'd be into that and it's just for fun, also i mean i literally wrote about him being with matteo and carlos at the same time so. but like if i'm being serious about it, bc of the way i see jannik, i don't think that'd be his cup of tea
🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity
oh god i don't think i'm the right person to give advice on this. i literally only write when i get hit by creativity flashes and the rest of the time idek what words are. sorry i don't know 😭 i guess the only thing is force yourself to write a little bit day by day, or once every few days maybe, even if you don't feel like you can, even if you have no ideas, just write anything. even just one sentence. because, sadly, the best way out is always through, so to get back to writing you have to... write. sucks 😭😭 but like hopefully one of those days the sentence will turn into 3 or 4 sentences, a paragraph. and then maybe the next day it'll be 300 words. and you'll slowly get back into the groove of things
🦋 ⇢ share something that has been on your heart and mind lately
i've been thinking a lot about how whenever i'm lost and i feel like i don't fully have a grip on my life i desperately search for ways to regain some control, and usually they're not healthy or functional ways, so i want to try and get more creative again. because i think it can be one good way to find a lot of the things i'm looking for. control, distractions, meaning, peace, satisfaction, joy. so i'm going to try to find (again) more creative outlets beside writing and also write more

So is it mostly a mixture of people demanding to be unblocked or demanding to know why they've been blocked?
It's a mixture of both. I'll block people and sometimes its just: "I'm really sad, I'm crying... I was following your side blog... But I found out you blocked me... I don't know if dming you on this account is right now... because you could be mad at me.... I just want answers, so I can stop crying..." / "I'm crying your my fav blog, and you blocked me on your side. My parents are going to be home soon. & they are going to see me crying and ask why.... So could I have an answer please? Just an answer is all I ask... I already had a terrible day and this is adding to it... please..." / "I'm having a very bad panic attack. I came home to go look at your side blog, and for whatever reason I can't interact anymore?!? Please tell me this is a mistake! Please tell me what I did wrong! I'll fix it!!! promise!!" / "I think you might've blocked me? I can't breathe... Help please... I can't breathe. Could you please explain to me why and possible unblock me? I can't breathe... am I having a panic attack..?" (I don't know.. but contacting a crisis line or nurse line or 911 might be better then trying to probe for answers...) I've had people demand to know why too. just sending: "You blocked me. Why, can you tell me why? Hello? WHY. Why did you block me? OH so now your going to ignore me? WHY. WHY DID YOU BLOCK MY BLOG ON YOUR SIDE ACCOUNT? I don't understand! HELLO. ANSWER ME. FINE You know what! I DONT NEED AN ANSWER! BLOCK ME HERE TOO. BITCH." @-@ or I get paragraphs. Literally *paragraphs* about how I was there fav blog and now i'm not because I blocked them & they demand answers & blocking is a microaggression/ableism etc... They all really weird me out and overstep imo into spaces I don't feel like are okay... Like the guilt trippy ones about crying or panic attacks, and pleading for answers. This makes me feel uncomfortable. Apart me doesn't know how to reply, the other part of me is worried it's true there panicking. So I'm like 'how do I help?" (so I get sucked in. But this is less now... as I'm noticing this might be a trick. Especially when people won't calm down and will just say 'no no i'm panicking, please tell me, what did I do to get blocked". ) & Equally the people getting really upset/anger & spammy ones in my dms demanding they get answers right now & feel like because I'm not replying right away i'm obviously ignoring them. It makes me feel really uncomfortable. & sorta like people expect i'm suppose to be sitting online all day/night long. I could be out, I could be sleeping. It's really unfair to be freaking out at someone in dms. I also really hate people think this is "fine" or "dragging someone". I also don't like ableism being tossed around as the "reason" I blocked someone.

VA Reader pulling a harmless prank on seemingly innocent yan-
Shhh.
"Be quiet, it's ringing!" Stifling your own baited laughter, you press a finger to your lips as you hold the phone to your ear - shushing your partner in crime. Huddled together on their couch, you and your accomplice hover over their phone like two kids. about to take part in the same comedic pastime. Similar to those fictitious children you both had trouble containing your excitement for the mischief planned to unleash. You angle the speaker below your lips as the line connects.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is Y/n in today?"
The line goes dead.
"What?" You dial the number again, beginning to wonder if this was as good an idea as when it was shoved in your head. You've been in the voice acting business for a couple months now - a lifelong passion finally realized with dedication and training. Paid roles were far in between, but you had fun with what you did, and were on the road to starting an asmr channel with the assistance of a good friend. Being somewhat of a prankster, that same person suggested you prank call your job and already had a script to boot. It was a little hard to say no with the effort they put into it.
"Hello?"
You regain peace of mind as the phone clicks. Too late to go back now. Once again you relax yourself, swallowing as you breath through your nose and draw your voice from the reaches of your throat.
"Hi, I called just a minute ago? I was asking about someone who may work there?"
The line goes quiet - again. You would've suspected them to have hung up again if not for the labored breathing on the other end. Your coworker forces out a chuckle.
"I'm sorry, nobody by that name works here."
One thing you learned after spending so much time together with this particular coworker was they were a terrible liar. It's what made you glad they're the one that picked up on top of their obvious caution in fear of your safety. Others would be glad to rat out your location if it meant less time take out of their schedule. If anything, the person you were speaking to now would drop everything to help you out. Just the type of person they were.
"Are you sure? We went out the weekend and they mentioned this place while we were talking. They suddenly stopped answered my calls after chatting not stop and I'm worried about them."
You read over your notes to pass the time until they reply. Wow, your friend really thought of everything. At this point you could possibly wing things out, but they had witten heavily in-depth paragraphs detailing possible scenarios and what to say as a result. Real gushy things too. If it weren't for their goofy nature you'd start to wonder what the true motives behind this prank were.
"maybe that's for the best."
"Pardon?" Your voice falters. That certainly wasn't what you expected. They seemed abrasive from the beginning of the call, but that drop in their tone was something you've never heard from them before.
"What do you mean by that?"
Your coworker mutters something you can't quite make out. "It means take a hint. They clearly aren't interested in you if there's no explanation for their disappearance - not that you deserve one. Who the fuck do you l think you are?"
Your hand clinches around the phone hearing that subtle hiss in their voice. Your friend grips your shoulder, worry clear as day. You wanted to drop the act, but had to see this out. "Look, I just wanted to know if they were available-"
A heavy object clatters to the floor.
"Stop. Saying their name. If they won't speak to you then you're as good as dead to them, and I'll make that happen if you don't learn your place. I won't let anyone ruin what we have..."
Your friend reaches for the phone. "Maybe we should hang up-"
"If you hang up this phone I will slit your throat. Your friend can be a witness before I do the same to them. Maybe they'll get a grave. I will hang you out to bleed like the worthless pig you are and leave your body for neighbors to find. You don't deserve to go missing. A cold case is more than you'll ever be worth it you think you can take what's mine. I'll kill you. I'll kill you. I'll fucking kill yo-"
"It was just a joke!" You hang up the phone and chuck it onto the table like a hot coal. It worms back into your hold with the vibration of dozens of texts flooding in, crashing to the carpet as you recoil from the shock. Yours starts to blow up with messages too, screen still opened on their chat from when you punched in their number.
"Was that you?"
"You're doing that voice acting thing, right? You really had me fooled. Haha."
"I was messing around too. Your safety is really important to me so I panicked."
"Are you still coming into night?"
"Y/n?.... Please?"
"Hey, Answer me... I'm sorry."
"I think I cut myself picking up the glass I broke. Can you take me to a hospital? Please.."
You shove your phone in your pocket before your eyes can register the picture loading on screen. "I gotta go"
You're out the door before your friend can get out a single word. Ten minutes later, they receive a request for a window call from an unknown number. They answer it.
All that's on screen is the trail of red an empty bottle of food coloring. Your coworker holds up a peace sign off screen.
"How deep should I make that grave?"

im gonna reply to some asks but not that many bc the last time i tried to type up one of these posts i accidentally closed the tab and lost like several paragraphs so now im scared
lots of heavypaint questions
@porch-gremlin
its the fan tool on heavypaint!! which is a free drawing app that i love a lot. and the fan tool is my fave its kind of a crutch actually im trying to use other tools gkfdhgsdg but its so fun i can do a whole painting using it exclusively. heres a video of it in action while i mess w the configuration options. u can slide the noise jitter up and down so its more or less streaky hehe ^^
thank you!!! heavypaint ROCKS!!!!! I love it... its like the only art program ill be a shameless shill for lol
also im flattered you think of my art while playing splat...i should draw more splat i feel like i havent done enough.
my phone!! I have a samsung galaxy note 20 that I am still not done paying off LMAO.... but I've been a galaxy note user for years. combined with heavypaint its a shockingly good mobile sketchbook.
I'm sorry it's crashing on your tablet... I don't have a tablet so I don't really have an advice. Unfortunately because HP is a small dev app it can be kind of finicky... especially in between updates. I think if you reached out to vaughn ling/heavypoly he'd probably respond though! he seems to keep up with the community pretty well.
@hellisrealsign nice nice.. I'm glad our tastes match up a little! hopefully that means you don't mind my frequent fandom jumping LOL. I promise to always be true to my homestuck-loving infinity-train-loving self.
LMAOOOOOO I HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD TIME? (covered in blood)
idk is it worth it to read any shounen manga for female side characters?????? (??) HEAVILY DEBATABLE. on one hand the casual observer would say no but on the other hand femslash shippers are the strongest people on god's green earth and will endure great tortures for paltry table scraps.
I think mha is a good manga but it's still a shounen, some of the tropes they squeeze the girls into kind of suck. I can kind of put my annoyance aside because regardless im still a big fan of cool fight scenes and the power of friendship but I think your mileage will vary depending on how much tolerance you have for that kind of story...? There's an awful lot of chapters afterall. I will say this: though toga and ochako aren't the main characters they're not in the background either. the path of their relationship spans multiple arcs across the entire manga and is both plot relevant and relevant to the greater themes/thesis of the story. it's pretty clear that the mangaka and editorial team are dedicated to giving these characters the time and page space to play out. it's not perfect but thats better than a decent amount of big shounen femslash in my opinion? shrugs
Thank you! for both the compliments and the concern. but I want to assure you that... to be perfectly honest I don't think I'll ever stop posting my art regardless of AI. I don't want to make this into a hot take like this is an entirely personal opinion and I don't expect any other artists to share my position but: Everything about my art that I consider valuable is inherently impossible for AI to replicate and everything about my art that is replicable and monetizable is not something I'm interested in owning or protecting. (this is also why at the end of the day i dont really care that much about art theft, tracing etc. and i think 90% of the time style theft is just silly)
I believe art should be freely shared and to restrict that is to make art into a product which is morally despicable and moreover uninteresting... to me. lol. I DO RECOGNIZE HOWEVER I'm very lucky to have both more of an online audience than I even want + a fulltime job that takes the pressure off any of my other art to make money. it's totally valid for other artists to have differing opinions on this especially depending on personal circumstances. AND also I make art that is primarily a product above all else for work everyday so im a hypocrite but. yeah thats my two cents.
I love posting art online LOL. I do it because its fun for me.
HAPPY NEAR YEAR!!!!!!!!!11111111

Hiiii ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ ❤️
I'm a 24f looking for 18+ roleplayers who would be interested in doing some Genshin Impact canon x oc! I specifically would like to dabble on oc x cc, so that we can both gush about our ocs. With that being said, of course, I would love to double! I feel more comfortable with that, in fact. (And no, I am not replacing the partners I already have!)
I do ask that you are 18+ because I do like incorporating nsfw into my rps. I really like ✨smut✨ so... Just a heads up! Of course, details would be discussed in dms. I also ask that my partner be engaging, so that we can get to know more about the other's oc, as well as deliver at least a few couple of sentences per reply. Two paragraphs more or less would be neat, but I'm not really strict on that!
My female oc would be paired with Tartaglia, and I am open to play any canon character for you, him included! With that being said, headcanons and slight deviations from the canon characters are more than welcomed. I have my small share of headcanons for Tartaglia, so I'd be more than open to hear yours for your end! Let's gush together about them and have some fun! (Also I do prefer the timeline to be in the canon universe, as I just really enjoy Genshin's world building.)
Finally, I am most comfortable doing mxf and fxf. Aside from that, I can usually get out a reply set once per day, or when things get busy, one every two days or so. I will let you know when that is the case ofc! Please do reach out if things get busy or you need a break - no hard feelings, life gets busy! I'll be more than happy to talk ooc during the day as well, though.
I roleplay through discord! So if you're interested, please leave a like and I'll reach out as soon as I can. Looking forward to meeting you!
