What if you could play the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with your friends, complete with all the mods you’ve grown to love over the years like Tamriel Rebuilt? That’s the reality that TES3MP promises, a modification of the OpenMW engine rewrite that allows you to play the game with other players! Here’s a small quote from the author, Koncord, about what is currently possible and where the project is going!   “Player movements and cell changes are very well synchronized. You can go anywhere on Vvardenfell and meet up with other players correctly. You can even load up Tamriel Rebuilt, give yourself a massive Acrobatics skill using the console, jump across the entire width of Morrowind a few times and meet up with a player doing the same. Player equipment, stats, combat and spell casting are also well-synchronized. Player stats, inventories and spellbooks are saved to and loaded from the server. Picking up or dropping items in the world makes them appear and disappear correctly for other players, including in containers, as does spawning and deleting objects via the console, and their state will get saved to the server and then loaded for new arrivals. Opening, closing, unlocking and locking doors is synchronized and their changing states are saved to the server. Using certain buttons and levers – like the ones at Ghostgate, Dwemer ruins or Sotha Sil's Clockwork City – is also synchronized, although their state is not yet saved to the server. However, other important aspects of the game are not yet synchronized, saved or loaded, including NPCs, time, weather, quest states, dialogue topics, bounties, faction membership, and the vast majority of ingame scripts.” This just goes to show, TES3 modding is just as exciting as it ever was even nearly 15 years after release. I encourage you all to dive in and try this out and submit your feedback. You can download TES3MP for Windows over here. The project has an official github and subreddit for you to follow. god so OpenMW (the fanmade engine replacement for Morrowind) finally has native postprocessing support and someone made just the most unspeakably sick volumetric mist plugin for it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OpenMW famously has made the distant landscape thing work really well, which I personally never was into, because not being able to see shit through the fog was (paradoxically) what made morrowind feel so huge. I really like that this plugin is weather-dependent, so you still get the occasional moment where you can see for miles for a few minutes before the fog rolls back in. it's very striking.
anyway, being able to play morrowind with mostly-vanilla visuals in a stable engine with bug fixes and fog that doesn't look like ass is all I've wanted for like a decade, so maybe this will be the push i need to finally play through it again

multiplayer: “M’Aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you.” – M’Aiq the Liar
M’Aiq may have been teasing us back in 2002, but today you really can meet the Argonian Im-Leet as well as Rolf the Uber. This is all thanks to OpenMW’s sister project TES3MP and its developers Koncord and David Cernat. Previously, tes3mp only had pvp, but a recent patch added NPC synchronization. As if that weren’t enough, they also decided to sync player faction, journal, topic, time, and plug-ins… You can pretty much play the whole game now, if you just keep in mind that scripts still work locally (as they do in single-player) and custom items made with alchemy/enchanting/spellmaking do not save on the server. Download tes3mp version 0.6.0 and be sure to read developer announcement here!

#OpenMW: Version 0.38.0 Released

so , anyone else here play morrowind through openMW ?
not sure if this is openMW specific or not , maybe if even openMW on linux specific , but this guy - selvil sareloth , silt strider caravaner in balmora - just gradually ... descend steps . not sure what exactly is trigger , but occasionally will come back and see further down . not test out any spells yet to see if selvil will move back up .
no idea how far this man will go . if anyone have thoughts or see this same thing happen , would love to know .
