the fact that the sequel trilogy could have perfectly set up a three v three scenario where the main trio could have each taken down their counterparts (poe against hux, finn against phasma, rey against ren) before they defeated snoke together so you could explore their characters and pasts and show the differences between the dark and light side of the force. and not only did they not do that but they basically screwed over the trio as a concept entirely

I’m genuinely so fucking sick of the “you all would have loved it if it was Eddie who made that comment” take.
First of all, Eddie wouldn’t have made comment then, bc he knows how hard it is for Buck to talk about his emotions, & is REALLY good at giving him the space to talk about them, even if he does make jokes, they’re not out of pocket (the coming out scene, anyone? Breaking the tension with a joke & still being supportive without making a joke of his feelings.)
Secondly, even if Eddie DID make that comment, I’d probably still roll my eyes, but I’d be more willing to accept it. Do you wanna know why???
Who was the person that knew the details of what Buck was talking to his therapist about during their emergency session before the Buckley’s visit? Who is the first one they show at Buck’s side when he gets stuck in the warehouse trying to pull Saleh out after learning about Daniel?? Who is the one who was pacing downstairs in the station & making sure Buck was okay after the warehouse, and the one who warned him about his visitors??
Who was the one praying at Bobby’s bedside, right next to Buck in the hospital?
(I’ll give you a hint, it’s not the dude that’s had 10 minutes of fucking screen time that everyone forgot about post s1.)
It wouldn’t have been the same bc TOMMY AND EDDIE ARE NOT THE SAME. They are not on the same level of knowing Buck & understanding when to make jokes & what jokes to make. Your best friend, partner & co-parent of 6 years and the man that you haven’t even called your boyfriend yet are not on the same level of familiarity.
I get that you’re pissed that Tommy is being compared to Buck’s previous love interests (which would be the case, even if he wasn’t just as shitty & uninterested in Buck as a person as they all were) but if you genuinely think that he’s anywhere near Eddie’s level, EVEN PLATONICALLY, then I fear that you have been watching another show entirely, & I encourage you to watch more than just s7, bc that’s the only explanation I can come up with for why this fuck ass take exists.

So one time I talked about how I want another story with Megatron and a human friend like Dorothy that maybe leads to a slow redemption for Megs, and now my brain's thought up that scenario more, so let me tell you about it
I said a human friend like Dorothy, but for the sake of simplicity, let's just call the human friend Dorothy Malto still. Also, while this might be a bit similar to Earthspark, it's its own thing
Anyways, starting off we have Megatron and Dorothy somehow meeting and interacting. I'm gonna say that the Decepticons ally with some human force for whatever reason, something like MECH or GHOST, and Dorothy's a member of said group and one who deals with their robotic allies often, meaning the two talk a lot, and maybe partner up on occassion
While at first their relationship is merely professional, but over time Megatron grows to respect this human and actually enjoy her presence and value her contributions. And in turn, he starts to see more value in humans, whom he previously saw merely as tiny primitive creatures to get caught in their war
Also, Megatron ends up learning about and potentially at some point meeting Dot's family (I know during the war in Earthspark her kids weren't around yet, but screw it let's have them here), which leads to him better understanding what human children are. And because of this, assuming the Autobots have young human companions like they sometimes do, Megatron decides to maybe pull back on targeting them in schemes to get at the Autobots, since it starts to remind him of Dorothy and how much she cares about her own children, and what it would mean to attack them. This is behavior both Decepticons and Autobots find a bit strange (though the Autobots might take a while to fully pick up on this), but it's relatively minor so they generally overlook it
But then it starts to evolve from not really targeting them to trying to be conscious they're not in harm's way during fights. And then it starts to evolve from just the child companions to adult companions. Then it's don't attack humans unless they really need to, aka they're a legit threat or would be very useful to them. And then it's pretty much don't harm humans, with Megatron going out of his way to avoid scenarios where many humans would be harmed
Basically, his relationship with Dorothy makes him see more value in humans, and he slowly starts to see that they really aren't that different, at least outside of the obvious things, which eventually evolves into fully recognizing their autonomy and seeing that maybe it was a mistake to use their home as a battlefield for a war they have no part in. Also, despite how I described it above, it is supposed to be a relatively slow change, it takes a while for him to go from "I don't care about the fleshlings, let them die" to "I don't want to bring unnecessary harm to any humans"
But by this point, both sides have definitely noticed his odd shift in behavior. The Autobots don't know what's causing this change, as they don't know about Dorothy and the Maltos, the Decepticons have definitely put together by this point that their leader's new softness seemed to have all started with Dorothy Malto, whom Megatron still frequently sees. So the Decepticons decide the easy solution is to just destroy the Maltos, and then the issue will be solved, their leader will go back to normal
But Megatron ends up finding out about this plan and goes to protect the Maltos, since they're entirely innocent and it's his fault they're being targeted. Which may lead to Megatron getting denounced as leader of the Decepticons for becoming too weak-willed, as well as him likely getting hurt in the ensuing battle between him and the other Decepticons, and the Autobots having to intervene
And by this point, the Autobots are very confused and interested in what's going on, because it's one thing that Megatron decided to be more mindful of humans, but Megatron actively defending a human family from his own troops, even if it means losing his title as their leader? Now this was strange (and possibly it gets Optimus' hopes up that Megatron is actually changing for the better)
But I have no clue where the story goes after this, this was as far as I thought up
Though I did also have some thoughts about Dorothy's side of things, and her maybe having a similar-ish arc to Megatron
She's probably not evil or anything, but she and her group initially see the Transformers just as advanced but unfeeling robots that they can use to benefit the world going forward. On both sides, the partnership was more transactional (even though I don't know what's in it for the Decepticons), and neither really cared for the other outside of potential benefits and usefulness
But just like how Megatron came to see the value in humans, Dorothy started to understand that these bots had actual thoughts and feelings, and were living sentient beings just as they were, and she started to have reservations about her group's ultimate plans for the Transformers they used in their research, whether Autobot captives or remains given to them by the Decepticons
Possibly at some point she decided to take a proper stand against her group's inhumane treatment of the bots, and/or she discovered the higher-ups had far more sinister plans, maybe planning on betraying the Decepticons soon, to which she tells Megs about. But regardless, she cuts ties with her former employers due to their actions and helps the Decepticons meet a potentially deadly fate at the hands of their former partners (a fight breaks out between the two groups as their partnership is ended). While Megatron already had good opinions of Dorothy by this point, this helped greatly elevate her in his mind, as she did not need to help them but chose to anyways due to their friendship
And it's by this point that Dorothy would technically have finished her "usefulness" to the Decepticon cause, she can no longer provide them with anything substantial to their cause, but Megatron would still visit and talk with her anyways. This would be somewhere during his change in treatment of humans, but it's after this point, when he keeps visiting Dorothy despite no longer needing to that the Decepticons start to have suspicions
But yeah, I think that's about it for this idea, I just thought it was neat and wanted to share

It's too late for me gang I'm already writing fan episodes in my head about malik having a vague mostly-for-jokes potential romance with miho in s0
#accessoryshipping#i can see the “next episode on yugioh” trailer so vividly in my head#“a foreign new student arrives in domino high and miho has started acting suspicious” and its like three shots that spoil the brainwashing#in dm this plot line would be stretched out for six episodes of everyone being stupid#but i think in s0 honda would mention it the second it happened and the literal next scene would be everyone ganging up to kick maliks ass#and then he'd unbrainwash her for a second and make her think everyone was just attacking him for no reason#then that type of thing would go on for the rest of the episode bc the gang doesn't actually know hes brianwashing her#like they still think he might be innocent until the end of the episode when yami finally calls him out he gets shadow game'd#but even then its only yami who knows for 100% sure and he's not in the actual gang yet#so “namu” gets plausible deniability for another four or five episodes (of which he appears in two)#i got off topic. anyway he would use miho as his main vessel the whole time#and barely needs to improve his acting bc she hypes him up big time even when shes fully in control#in my ideal world shed catch on to the brianwashing really fast but go along with it thinking she can use it to her advantage somehow#which would capture maliks attention to her being an interesting pawn outside of her use as a vessel + kickstart their friendship arc#she could make him calm tf down i think. he pretends to be her friend for so long he accidentally gets attatched fr#for once i am happy i put this in the tags and not the post tf am i talking about

it's actually kinda funny how the balance of nobles getting frenzied is already a little pearl clan heavy just by virtue of there being an uneven number, but then they also have a ride noble get pseudo-frenzied and rather than it being a diamond clan noble to even things out, it's ursaluna, who's also pearl. that's 4/5 pearl nobles who get some version of frenzied compared to only 2/5 for diamond. almighty sinnoh really said fuck these guys specifically. also a real "sneasler wins by doing nothing" sort of situation here

' ━Ah, so that's your brand new hiding place. '
A pair of familiar, inadvisable shoes seemingly materializes out of thin air. There's a grin on the man's face as he bends down to eye level, red hues exploring the hiding space his stray snuck in and slowly turning on the side of incredulous concern.
' How in the hell did ya managed to get in here? You're taller than me, and almost as bulk, too! Only someone like Brother Hanu could get cramped in here, and even he... '
They both know how. the Enigma doesn't answer him, limiting himself into quietly staring at his adoptive father as the playfulness in his voice disappears.
' One of these days, huh? ' A sigh. ' Come on- scoot over, 'm coming in. '
There's a long pause. Kaeya doesn't move- but he resumes speaking, a tad on the side of incredulous.
' Dad... It's too big for both of us, We'll both be stuck if you come in. '
' That so? ' The man named Gallagher sighs with relief, chuckling in the same breath. ' Right. Would have been worth a shot, though- look who's speaking again. '
It rips a chuckle out of him, for the way it always works- his dad is never afraid to do something scandalously funny to shock him out of overthinking. This includes trying to reach for him in a small, battered metal closet.
Sometimes, it's just a thing that needs to be done.
Tumblr media
There's a can of something similiar to SoulGlad in violet-hued fingers, the comfortable silence, and his father's leg pressed against his as they sit with their backs on the wall.
A drop of condensation comes in contact with his thumb, unfelt. This is where Enigma breaks the silence.
   ' Dad... '
He hesitates, a million questions in his mind. He picks the closest one, reels the others in.
' This feeling of emptiness... when will it stop? I thought it was going to go away on his own, but it never did. Never does. '
There's an awry sound coming from his side. ' Hard to say, ' he starts, the movement that turns his face into a small grimace of sympathy. ' 'm kinda afraid that you put yourself into a bad situation, kid. '
   ' I did? '
' Yup. This... ' He gestures at Kaeya entirely, careful, ' avatar that you took, the one you told me belongs to your friend... you're really not supposed to do that. Take his looks, I mean- it just makes everything more complicated than it needs to be. Adds a whole lot of weight where there shouldn't be. Kinda jumbles everything that should be simple... '
His dad trails off, irises taking on the looks of his stray without the irony shining in his eyes.
' You still haven't told me why ya picked him, out of all traits you could have taken. Of the amalgamate you coulda been. '
No- no, he has not. The reason only makes sense in his brain, only tie together when Kaeya Alberich has been in the life of someone for a while. And Kaeya Alberich never got to know his father at all.
His mouth opens, words lost. Impostor closes it, opens it again, shakes his head almost helplessly, the faint buzz of confusion starting behind his eyes before a warm hand ruffles his hair, stays in place over mussled cobalt locks.
' Don't sweat it, ' the man that is his father tells him, a lopsided grin on his face. ' As long as it makes sense to you, it's alright. You gotta solve this emptiness thing yourself- I can't help you much, here. '
A few pats on his dusty behind, and his dad is up and going again. Kaeya shakes his head at the hand being offered to him, signaling that he'd like to be alone and in here a little longer.
' You gotta be glad we have a lotta time to think about stuff, no? 'is the last thing he tells Kaeya before he's out, leaving a wink and the bark of a laughter behind.
and a cold can of soda, untouched.
Tumblr media
The hut is empty. There's nobody else but him, and the unheartly silence of the abandoned planet hs picked as his residence.
Kaeya's digits follow the jagged edges of his newest wound, a gaping hole where pale diamond should be. The skin has been broken like porcelaine, long cobalt strands trying to hide the lack of eye and the emptiness where skull and human gore should be.
Gray materia floats around his head, trying to recompose him and shoo his fingers, foreign, cold objects, away from the problem. But the wound is fresh, terribly big, and the effort requires an addictional component to speed up the healing factor.
The surviving eye is as faulty as the one he took from Kaeya Alberich: all he sees are shadows dancing out of his reach, the blurry, darkened form of the table, the chairs, the kitchenette and the items he so loves to decorate having become hostile obstacles he has to avoid.
In the corner of the main room, there are two big tanks of the liquid coming from the Misty Sea- it's what he needs to fix the missing side of his head.
It's what he needs. A few steps ahead, and he'll close his digits around the neck of one. Feel around the tab in the bathub, plug it in, and pour.
   Simple actions to restore himself.
But he thinks. And thinks. And he can't do this.
   He can't do this.
   He just can't do this.
   He can't move.
   But he has to.
The next minutes, perhaps hours, perhaps days, are a blur. All he knows is that, when he comes to some sort of consciousness again, his fingers are still tight around the plastic neck of a much lighter tank, the smell of the restoring liquid is right under his nose. His location seems to have changed.
Kaeya doesn't remember doing all this. All that he knows is that the ceramic of the bathub is so wonderfully cold and grounding against his warm, cracked skin, and he doesn't want to move. He has no will to, but something in his body has reacted to try and make him fix himself.
But he can't do it. His legs feel like lead, like cement.
   He can't do it.
   He wants to.
But he just can't do it.
Triumph and progress feeds people with some sort of frenzy, an injection of adrenaline putting them on top of the world, wanting to shout to look at them! They can accomplish ANYTHING!
But he isn't a person. It makes sense that the little energy he had after completing his mission has oozed out of him from the gaping wound.
An injury won't kill him- simply slow him down. His dad and mentor said that he has all the time in the world to do what he needs and wants to do, figure out when the emptiness ends.
Today, it doesn't. It presses him against the cold surface, and he's happy to allow his heavy body to surrender, letting his warmth disperse over it.
He can stay like this for a bit. He did what he had to do, and now it's time for him to give in to exhaustion. Just for a little bit of time, just for a small nap.
With the part of his forehead that can still feel, Kaeya curls against the side of cold marble, and lets his eyelid fall shut over the mocking of shadows dancing just out of his reach.
Maybe the emptiness never goes away. But I can rest for a bit... just for a little bit... and then I'll be good to go.
   Just for a little bit...

"In reality Richard III invented a Woodville scare as a screen for his own conspiracy"
— A.J Pollard, Richard III and the Princes in the Tower
#lmao#richard iii#my post#I think that's true for all usurpations and coups to an extent#but its 10x more applicable and accurate for Richard III#Not only because of the compressed length of time (a mere 3 months as opposed to years of back-and-forth tensions)#but also because ultimately one of the key reasons Richard could do what he did was because he did it from the heart of the political#institution (ie he was an internal threat rather than an external one)#and he was someone who was trusted and loved rather than mistrusted and hated. His betrayal was political but it also had far more personal#ramifications for everyone involved - most people simply did not expect it from him and cooperated with him precisely because of that#which enabled him to seize power before most people even realized what he was doing#And there's the fact that he actually did stage a conspiracy by accusing the Woodvilles of plotting to attack and ambush him#and produced weapons from his own war in Scotland as fake 'proof' - when in fact we know that HE deceived and ambushed THEM#there's also the (propagandic) lie that they usurped him from the position as Lord Protector when they certainly didn't#either Edward IV didn't appoint Richard Lord Protector meaning the Woodvilles denied him nothing#OR the council collectively chose to have a council rule during Edward V's minority rather than a Protector (something they were entirely#within their rights to do both socially and legally)#so claims that they wrongly defied Edward IV's last wishes or broke the law (which Mancini repeats in his account) must be seen as exactly#that - propagandic lies to vilify EW and her family#when in fact Richard was the one plotting a seizure of power - whether it was as Lord Protector or as King#(of course these are just two things - there's a whole laundry list of others)#so this is definitely applicable to him

a bit obsessed with the idea of kusakabe dying as a form of sacrifice to specifically protect/save somebody else. it's consistent enough with the theme of the past generation achieving no meaningful feats against significant threats but it's also ironic enough that someone without a technique and who claims their philosophy is primarily self-sacrificial - although he tends to stay from his own ideals in critical moments, proving he's not only brave when necessary but he does have a sense of responsabilty and guilt - ultimately redeems themselves through death resulting in the achievement of something his colleagues have failed to do. not that i'm wishing for him to die, i hope he doesn't. but it would also make a clear-cut distinction between him and a character like mei mei, who narratively serves a very similar purpose (besides her being a foil to nanami). to have someone be awarded by their selfishness just for it to not be worth much within a world and system that runs and sustains itself due to the sorcerer's labour power, whose only means of subsistence is to sell themselves away. a class of people who is doomed no matter what path they choose to take, as long as they do not break free from their duties and as long as the system doesn't collapse. a death that could serve as a symbol of punishment towards solidarity and altruism but a win for revolution.
#okay gege came for me when i said i didn't like kusakabe and now i'm thinking so much about him and his purpose in the story#why would he go against his own ideal and what is his purpose besides introducing questions like 'is self sacrifice noble?' you know?#so that got me thinking about him dying or suffering a big loss and how that would consolidate his character in my eyes#unless his purpose is completely different and i'm just deeply misreading the situation#if his purpose is to simply highlight personal choices and free will vs his generation's dogma#then i suppose him dying could serve no purpose but i'm not finding that side of the coin very straightforward or totally compelling#but again i feel like i'm failing to read him so maybe it is skill issue#anyway obsessed with kusakabe today awkkajwkaj feeling personally attacked by this twisted chain of events#gege really came for my ass after i was vocal about my kusakabe hate (which i feel like is dead at this point rip 🕊️)#which by the way is so mean. god forbid a bisexual do anything 😔 why can't i be a hater man?#also don't take this post seriously it's more about my mediocre reading of his character and my headcanons/wishes than a theory#i'm not trying to imply he will die or that there is narrative purpose in that#just that it makes sense in my brain if that's the case and the plan gege has for his character#but also he's literally the info dumpster gege probably wouldn't kill him because who will explain things to us 😂#he's like our amateur narrator i bet that gives him total plot armour#ps. maybe this is just my zero braincells moment#i just hate that i don't get it like i want to understand why he exists#but i'm aware that maybe this is a me thing and maybe everyone else just get it#and that makes me feel like that meme#let me iiiinnnn#okay bye

not the paper nor the words we waste (but time and lives) - pettiot - Peaky Blinders (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
Post S4 and pre S6, snippets of Thomas Shelby's political career.
Ch 1: On the proposed Measure to Grant the Government Additional Powers to Seize the Children of Narrowboat Dwellers who fail to comply with compulsory School Attendence. A day very early in his career where junior Minister Thomas Shelby must defend the right of families to live together on narrowboats.
.
Note, notwithstanding the 'incomplete' nature, each chapter is substantively a standalone work/one-shot. Tags will update to reflect additional chapters. .
Tommy Shelby, Various Ministers | (Superficial View of) Politics (as a Forum for Identity Assault), Parliament, Alternative Universe Politics, Public Speaking, The Inherent Humiliation and Sledging Associated with Speaking in Parliament, Slurs, Nastiness, Bullying, Irony <-Deep Deep Irony, Schadenfreude, Fremdscham, Secondhand Embarrassment, Work, Imperialism, Class Issues, Colonial Constructs
.
Writers notes for any interested (also in the tags):
Chapter 1 was drawn from a transcript of a similar argument tabled at Parliament in 1930 (?) I think and again over time (IIRC? read it a few months ago with some searing statements burned into my brain, flinching a little). The politicisation of the lifestyles of people who live and work on narrowboats has a very long and painful history.
I imagine the possibility of the rueful and somewhat bitter realisation when Tommy walks into Parliament to discover his (at that time unknown to any minister) very specific childhood the subject of heated political debate. That he doesn't necessarily want to defend that for personal reasons, but has to recognise that his life wasn't everyone's life, and also that cannot *not* defend that way of living because...well...the alternative he notes in his argument. The consequences of sweeping policy that is typically unconsidered.
I also imagine that suddenly having this in his face in Parliament at a time when he is least mentally stable, could feasibly have contributed further to the breakdown of those boundaries between his war trauma and childhood trauma -> this way in S5 his narrowboat references / childhood trauma references become that increasingly heavy shadow.

I've been thinking about this line, was it a chekov's gun too? Was this important to be mentioned? Will we see it in season 3?
Can we please talk about this?
