In my personal experience, TMA and TME are just. AMAB-trans-fem and AFAB-trans-masc but with a slightly More Woke coat of paint sprayed on.

While, yes, I can understand seeing yourself in Kris, and wanting to project your experience onto them, doing so misses the entire point of their character. At the start of the game, you are provided with a “blank character” meant to be Your Customizable Player Character, only to be told that, no, you don’t get to decide that. This is Kris. Kris is their own person.

Do I see a lot of myself in Kris? Yes, of course. Almost everyone does. They’re a “silent” protagonist who’s not allowed to have a mind of their own by the narrative.

Does me seeing myself in Kris make them a late diagnosed autistic transmasc with a strained relationship with their divorced parents and a traumatic childhood that’s continuously ignored, some of which resulted in them having a deep connection (both symbolically and the emotionally) to dogs?

Well, some of those, maybe. But a lot of that is also just me filling in the blanks because if I see myself in them, they must be like me, right?

Except they’re not! That’s the whole point!

We don’t even know if they consider themselves to be nonbinary, agender, genderqueer, or something else entirely!

All we know about Kris’ gender is that they present androgynous and use they/them pronouns.

In trying to assign them a gender, be that through saying you think they must be AMAB b or saying you they’re blatantly trans masc is, aside from blatantly ignoring the message of the game, honestly transphobic and intersexist.

In using any pronouns aside from they/them for them, you are misgendering them.

Now, because this is the Piss On The Poor Website:

I am not saying you are not allowed to make headcanons about Kris, or any other characters genders.

What I am saying is that I personally hate that people keep trying to assign a gender to one of the few they/them characters we have.
