Quote
I've always told people that for each person there is a sentence — a series of words — which has the power to destroy him. [...] [But] another sentence exists, another series of words, which will heal the person. If you're lucky you will get the second; but you can be certain of getting the first: that is the way it works.

A related idea to my last post, but if Shang Qinghua was there when the ritual happened and the ritual latched onto Shang Qinghua and his system as well, I can’t stop imagining a situation where Shang Qinghua actually is a god (he did create the universe after all), but the ritual didn’t latch onto him because he was being suppressed by the system and now the systems trapped and his power is unleashed for the first time in his life and he’s gleefully hacking the system glitch to rewrite the system code.
After the system begins glitching, maybe he pokes it in shock and curiosity and realizes he can touch it now and it’s moldable and he’s able to reshape a bit of it into a keyboard that he can start recoding the system from. And rewriting the universe is literally just rewriting the system code (either recoding it is just rewriting since the world was birthed from pidw—a written novel, or airplane knew coding in his last life).
First thing Qinghua does is disable the system from ever being able to control them again. Second thing he does is make the ritual non existent.

For a moment Rand was silent as well, looking around at the faces turned to him. At last he said, “I hope to return, but who can say what will happen? The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.” He hesitated, with every eye on him. “But I will leave you something to remember me by,” he added, sticking a hand in his coat pocket.
Abruptly a fountain near the Roof burst to life, water gushing from the mouths of incongruous porpoises standing on their tails. Beyond that, a statue of a young man with a horn raised to the sky suddenly was putting up a spreading fan, and then two stone women farther on were casting sprays of water from their hands. In stunned stillness the Aiel watched as all the fountains of Rhuidean flowed once more.
“I should have done that long since.” Rand’s mutter was no doubt meant for himself, but in the hush, Egwene could hear him quite clearly. The splash of hundreds of fountains was the only other sound. Natael shrugged as if he had expected no less.
It was at Rand that Egwene stared, not the fountains. A man who could channel. Rand. He’s still Rand, despite everything. But each time she saw him do it was like learning that he could all over again. Growing up, she had been taught that only the Dark One was more to be feared than a man who could channel. Maybe Aviendha’s right to be afraid of him.
But when she looked down at Aviendha, open wonder shone on her face; so much water delighted the Aiel woman as the finest silk dress might have Egwene, or a garden full of flowers.

thinking about how the silmarillion starts with a creator god who loves making things so much that he sings other beings into creation just so they can make stuff with him. thinking about how his first god-son craves ownership over creation and that is his destruction. thinking about how the god-son’s second-in-command is also a creator spirit, one who loves art and craftsmanship so much that he longs to create something perfect and lasting, and breaks the world and himself in pursuit of it.
thinking about how the most important elf in history was a craftsman who built things of such beauty and splendor that even the god and his servant coveted them. thinking about how this elf was married to a sculptor who created statues so perfect they seemed alive. thinking about how their seven sons were driven to madness and doom trying to reclaim their father’s stolen creation. thinking about how one of those sons had a baby boy who became, like his grandparents, a smith. thinking about how the demi-god coveted the smith’s skills and would ultimately kill him in rage and greed.
thinking about how the hobbit follows a bloodline cursed by their greed. thinking about how the lord of the rings follows men who buckled and broke under the weight of their lust for the one ring, and how even the most good and true and noble people struggled to bear its weight well. thinking about how all the doom in the world stemmed from artistic hubris and how it is only conquered in the end by the act of unselfish love.
thinking about how the tolkien legendarium is a love letter to artists and the very act of creation, but also a cautionary tale against hoarding the riches of beauty and imagination. thinking about how love is the truest art, and how the art is meant to be shared.

I love Alhaitham so much. "Humans are not infallible," as his core of logic is so beautiful. He's not unfeeling, really it's his understanding of people that's got him to where he is. As the sage, he declined research that would harm humans even in the pursuit of greater knowledge for how evolution occurs. Alhaitham knew exactly what humans are beyond what someone is trying to capture the human mind and set them free. Alhaitham genuinely believes humanity is what makes humans what they are.
Alhaitham, unlike the rest of the Akademiya, genuinely doesn't view himself or anyone intelligent as more or less; it's simply a trait. He believes in self-assuredness and emotional stability over emotional neglect, both in favoring the positive and negative. While Alhaitham can try to view things objectively and feel removed from other people, he genuinely pays attention to the people and things around him because he cares enough to understand them.
This mindset is, of course, what leads Alhaitham to his argument with Kaveh, seeing Kaveh's limits before Kaveh. Trying to pull him back from running and leaping off that cliff with nowhere to land. Drained dry of everything he's got. It's truly Kaveh who seeks that endless pursuit of knowledge and success through creation. Which is why Nahida declared Kaveh the one who understand wisdom the best. Alhaitham would never understand stripping himself of all material and immaterial means to finish something for the sake of creation. Kaveh would die on any hill if he thought it would help someone without considering if there is even a hill there.
It's ironic that what puts Kaveh in the light of the divine under the archon of wisdom lands Alhaitham's feet on the ground of humanity. When most people would probably think emotional empathetic Kaveh is most human and unfeeling cold Alhaitham is like a god, it couldn't be less the case.

winston is the perfect child that will wanted by the way. he is patient, ever waiting and present. allowed himself to be saved by will, cared for by him. he walks by him in his nightmares, protects him in sleep, runs home to him even when he's in the hospital. and that's why he is the only dog who sits outside the house while the others feed on mason's skin. he is pure, free of the taste of human flesh. he hungers for nothing but his father
