neurodiversity and zayne

(again. NO I WONT FREAKING SHUT UP ABOUT HIM GRAH GRAH GRAH GRAH 🗣️)

As a neurodivergent kid who grew up in a constantly loud (though very loving!) household where even minor inconveniences led to lots of yelling (i thought this was normal. recently found out it is not and might've also led to some of my complexes), there's something so nice and perfect about Zayne being quiet without being insignificant. Everything Zayne says holds meaning and is meant to steer you in the right direction without triggering you or scaring you.

Like, I noticed that whenever we play kitty cards, Zayne indulges in the banter like all the others but whenever I make a move, he makes sure to praise it in some way. Whenever the player pats his head, he leans forward and lets us keep stimming, etc.- whenever we touch him, he tells us something new so we could associate that fact with that action and remember it ("there are 42 muscles in the human face," etc. again, this is also him infodumping in a healthy way!).

It's so cool to watch how he's evolved since childhood- like a lot of the stuff he does can definitely be read as mechanisms for working WITH his own neurodiversity instead of against it that he's developed in all those years. Even though he's clearly studied up on how to interact with neurodivergent AND neurotypical people as an adult, the glimpses we do get of his childhood with MC are SO BLATANTLY Autism x ADHD coded it makes me want to break into INFOLD and see where they put the DBT therapist they hired for reference.

Let's just take the snowball seals incident and describe it without using names, okay?

Person A wants to express sympathy towards Person B. Leaves an unexplained box of objects they associate with the incident at their doorstep. Person B takes everything in at first glance, completely misunderstands it, and takes it personally.

my GOD he's so thoughtfully written!!!! and we all know he puts sooo much effort into making sure his relationship with MC is healthy, and he puts her well being first- which explains so much about how perfectly he navigates situations that could potentially lead to a crashout with her. He's probably read through the whole ADHD section of Akso Hospital archives, bless his darling heart UGHHH I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!!! More on this tomorrow I have a chemistry regents and am going to get nearly five hours of sleep. pray for me

Nobody on my Neurodivergent Zayne x Neurodivergent But Different MC agenda like I am on god

smth that isn’t talked enough about is how people who can mask and sometimes mask too much vs people who can’t mask view each other- they both feel inferior to each other but for different reasons and it’s always so interesting

like I’ve always felt disgusting and worthless because I can’t mask my adhd, but I’ve had a few fellow neurodivergents tell me they think it’s really cool that I’m “not afraid to express myself.” Imagine Zayne, the man who can never let himself go, faced with an MC who can never hold herself back. They both fucking HATE themselves. MC’s always scared she’s embarrassing Zayne, Zaynes always scared MC only likes his facade, but they ALWAYS comfort each other

reassurance all day every day until they figure out maybe one isn’t too good for the other, and maybe they’re just perfect together. Idk if I’m projecting too much but I feel like that arc would be perfect

also it def ties into Zaynes constant need to protect MC and make sure she’s safe, partly because she has like no self love no awareness of anything and negative impulse control

and even better? MC whose adhd got WORSE over time, but Zayne who got better at masking his autism. MC taking care of Zayne as a kid, then Zayne coming back after so many years to find her struggling day-to-day. It would KILL him- but also MC, because he wasn’t supposed to see her this way. THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES

Biggest Special Interest: Anatomy! You might be thinking he just talks like that because he's a doctor, but if you look closely a lot of the stuff he says ingame with all the long fancy names etc could be explained much more simply and it wouldn't deprive mc of any health information. Zayne simply finds joy in yapping about his interests with his favorite words!!! And me too bro. Me too.

Favorite Safe Food: Desserts (duh). He's going to the hospital? Desserts on the way back. Desserts here desserts there desserts everywhere. His hamster eyes go all wide and autistic whenever you mention dessert around him I mean come ON. He IS the diagnosis atp

Severe Rejection Sensitivity: Accidentally injured MC as a CHILD, got a complex from it for the rest of his life. False accusations of malpractice? He believes he's a murderer now. My SHAYLA.

The Monotone Voice: I have a shit ton of autistic friends and when i tell you this man has THE autism inflection in his tone, just like rafayel has THE adhd inflection ever.

The Eye Contact: He's usually talking to us and we're like crazy close obvi, so I assume that's why we don't see him struggle with eye contact a lot, but notice how in one of the few times he talks to anyone else (meeting your family) his eyes are actually fucking DARTING EVERYWHERE BUT THE CAMERA.

Anyways I KNOW his ass is hyperlexic like me bro just look at him go
