I read my favorite Greek myths in my spare time and found inspiration. Attention! It's just AU based on the "Orfeo's Game" skin series!

Thoughts on Orfeo + the Orpheus Drug
1 reason Orpheus turns around is due to excessive emotions/love.
After Orpheus turns around in L’Orfeo, the chorus says: “Orpheus conquered Hades and then was conquered by his emotions. Worthy of eternal glory is the one who will have victory over himself.”
In the final Act, Apollo emphasizes this: “Too much you rejoiced in your happy fortune. Now too much do you mourn your bitter and hard fate.” Orpheus earlier did too: “What Pluto forbids, love commands”. Eurydice after Orpheus looks back says he lost her due to “excessive love”.
Apollo's lines are very similar to Orpheus' Orfeo card description.
It also feels vaguely similar to some of what is said and going on in Hollow's essence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other reason is doubt (that Eurydice is behind him, he's not being tricked) as Orpheus when leading Eurydice out says “who can assure me that she is following me” and later “Perhaps the enamored Furies are taking up arms... to snatch my treasure from me? And I allow it?"
Tumblr media
His journey so far has been relatively easy. His gift has been very effective his whole life at persuading others. Orpheus confirms this: “What honor will be worthy of you, my all powerful lyre, since you have succeeded in softening every stubborn heart in the realm of Tartarus”.
Hades gave in to Orpheus’ pleading due to a combination of Persephone’s begging (she basically says if you love me, you’d do this for me) as well as Orpheus’ singing, but he warns Persephone “stern and unyielding fate may oppose your wishes”.
Tumblr media
Later she thanks him, and he basically confirms he (Hades) did this in part for her, as he says “Let not your soul become so desirous of heavenly delight that you abandon the marriage bed” (aka don’t leave me).
This is a story that happens at a time when requesting blessings/favors from gods required some kind of sacrifice, so Hades saying to Orpheus that he could only have Eurydice if he doesn’t look back wouldn’t been understandable for that time period.
This could also have been Hades way of bending the rules to allow Orpheus' request. The earth is jointly controlled between the gods. Hades domain extends to everything underground. The rules of the underworld would be strongest until Eurydice was in the sunlight.
Orpheus’ gaze would bring attention to his breach of the natural order. Hades could turn a blind eye as Orpheus led her up into daylight, but once he could no longer pretend to not notice when Orpheus looked back, Hades had to do his job and retrieve Eurydice’s ghost.
When souls died, their memories were erased by the river Lethe (they were reborn but forgot their past life). Eurydice was dead, but Orpheus wanted her to return with her memory intact, which was a problem.
Apollo talks about Orpheus giving in to “anger and grief”, being a “slave to his passions”, and being “overcome by blame and danger”. This fits with Orpheus as we see him in his Hollow essence (and especially in the essence trailer).
Tumblr media
The lesson from the myth includes this: By looking back, you lose sight of what’s important. Like if a driver or runner in a race looks back, that action could cost them the win (and it has happened before).
Like in the myth, Orpheus believes Hades (Norton) is tricking him, that Eurydice (Alice) isn’t really with him, which is part of the reason why he looks back. Orpheus is focused on the past, seeing shades/the past (Memory) rather than the real/present (Alice).
Orpheus doubts. He believes he’s being tricked, that Norton is taking Alice from him, but in the end, in L’Orfeo, there was no trick. Eurydice was really there. But by doubting and believing he was being tricked, and due to his focus on the past, he lost her forever.
---
Speaking of Orpheus and the myth:
Orpheus drug: causes "coma"
Likely what Orpheus used to "fake" his death (+ Kevin's and William's)
Orpheus & Eurydice myth: Eurydice is dead.
Orpheus goes into the Underworld to bring her back (though he fails). It's just like the drug. Death -> Life Coma/Fake Death -> Awake/Alive
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The symbol is a lyre, used in the myth to bypass Cerberus and Charon, and convince Persephone and Hades to let him take Eurydice. In the myth, Orpheus was a talented musician. That's why only a small amount is needed, why to "avoid overdose". Similarly, the drug "subdues" people

You know Orfeo?
A small smile appeared on the "journalist's" face, and a small giggle emerged from her lips.
"Of course! Mister Orfeo is a very nice and kind person! He's a little sad, but... we're working on it! I met him and this girl named... I believe her name was Lily? In a match! I rescued both of them from that... rocket chair? And we've been friends ever since!"
Shifting on her feet, clasping her hands together, she continued on.
"He is a little shy, and sometimes, he reminds me of Shuichi and Ryoma. They're all very kind and warm, but sometimes I worry for them... Mister Orfeo always seems a little sad, and sometimes I catch him comparing me to someone named 'Eurydice'."

Ah Orfeo’s Game
(In this I make it a slight love triangle but not really because Orpheus chose his path and so did you as the reader)
“There she is.” A woman walks in, their flapper dress and hat resting on her hair. It was white and blue, she went to Norton and pat his arm gently.
Norton holds her by the waist and they press their heads together before she goes to Orfeo and offers a hand. He hesitantly shakes it, admiring the woman’s beauty. Her beautiful eyes, lovely hair, even if it was classy, messy or just short.
Somehow in someway, it made her pretty. Norton couldn’t help but quirk an eyebrow at the sight, but they then stop when the woman goes over to Leo and they begin talking. The man was gentle, even going as far to hold her hand as well, meanwhile Emma and Emily happily guide their associate to a corner.
Freddy scoffs, “Typical, fraternize with the public.”
“Whats that spose’ ta mean mate?” Norton remarks cooly while Freddy just shakes his head. “Nothing that concerns you Campbell.” Obviously annoyed with this whole situation Freddy walks away.
Meanwhile Orpheus was focused on the back of that mysterious flapper, she looks so elegant. “Ah my beautiful guest from afar. I heard she came here as a renovation project for the next theme to this gathering. She sure knows how to have fun.” The tall woman walks away, greeting other guests.
Soon she greets the new guest, Norton watched, his gaze growing weary at the sight of the taller woman kissing the lady’s hand. Hostess Yidhra gently pecks the smaller woman’s knuckles while Yima bows respectively, the two then walk away to greet Mr. Kreiburg and Mr. Riley. Soon Norton was beside the lady of honor and they begin talking, she was nodding each time he spoke. Never speaking and when she did he’d stop to listen, they carried such chemistry with one another.
Even when she wore an outfit that disparaged the standard towards women, Orfeo had to know…how and why? Why was she here? And how did she make it in his story?
Some time would pass the two never met up, or made eye contact. Until they had to meet for rehearsal, his gaze lands on hers. He got a good look….
Her eyes, the flapper dress barely covering her legs, the way her hair practically looks…it was mesmerizing. It was as if he was witnessing a muse for the first time….then thats when he finally gains the confidence to make a move.
Orfeo caresses the woman’s face. “Orpheus…?”
Right, his real name… “Yes?” They stay silent.
Then Norton came over and gently held her by the waist. “Everything alright?”
Right, they…were never meant to be..
Norton and the woman walk off, not before she gave him one last glance.

The weirdos in this fandom: Orpheus and Alice are the siblings ever <333
Me, wading through trenches of IDV lore, watching how AOM, the trailer for Orfeo's game and the trailer for season 25 essence 3 skins parallel Orpheus and Alice with Orpheus and Eurydice:

“ A minute passing only doesn’t seem quite right.. not that any of this is to begin with. I don’t even think I’ve seen a full hour on it. “
A pause.
“ … I know my wish as well as the script (wouldn’t I?). I only want to see through that your words are the truth. “
- orfeo anon (ooc note leave eurydice ALONE. /lh)

Envoy smiled at the novelist, far from friendly, but a smile nonetheless.
"I certainly would hope by now you would know the script as well as you do your “wish.” Don’t believe your ears or eyes, my dear Orfeo. The truth can only be revealed by the one who refuses to fall into the depths of the lightless border. I’m sure you understand, yes?"

So I've been really into your analysis lately and I'm a huge fan now, wanted to ask some questions, feel free to not answer any
1- what was your favourite idv story/event to analyze?
2- your least fav of the latter?
3- are you into anything else besides idv?
4-how do you find the motivation to analyze stuff? I've tried before and it was very draining :')
Thanks for your time, hope you have a lovely day
I'm very happy to hear you're enjoying yourself despite my own low opinion about much of what I put out. I'll do my best to answer!
Hmm I always dislike picking favorites because I'm bad at picking eheh... But the ones I liked most... I honestly enjoy T&I and COA (1-5) even more than the main story. So I think I might pick... Atropos' Ropes for T&I and for COA, thats harder... 3-5 are my faves but I might pick 4 just because of how it felt it had the most story/details given than all the rest. Even the *SONG* had story. I loved it.
Least fave, eh... Orfeo and Zinaida immediately come to mind, though Orfeo I'd say was worse... COA 1 is another primarily because of how DIFFICULT it was for me to figure it out enough to put together an analysis. And I had to rewrite that thing at LEAST 3 times to the point I'm just hoping it's good enough and leaving it alone. Time of Reunion I think is another that comes to mind, mainly because I didn't appreciate how they treated Norton in there, especially in the videos (but at least those aren't canon like the in-game event was). So based on all that, I might say Orfeo if I really had to pick 1. Then rank ToR 2nd and Zinaida/COA1 3rd.
FF14 and Honkai Star Rail especially I'm playing actively these days, but I honestly like a lot of stuff. Like Persona (espeially 4), 999 aka Zero Escape, and Star Ocean Til the End of Time. Least in terms of games.
Hmm... Maybe because the 1st reason I play a game is because of the story, and gameplay is always 2nd to me. If the story and characters are good, that gets me interested. Issue with IDV is we only get bits and pieces. Really need to look deeper to really understand some of the characters. I actually only started analyzing because I challenged myself (partially out of curiosity for the answer) to see if I could prove if Norton wasn't as evil as people thought (based on all the comments I saw when I 1st joined the fandom a long while ago). From there, there was Jose who I wanted to analyze because he honestly had so many plot holes I couldn't (and still can't completely) solve. So I get the most enjoyment analyzing something that doesn't have a clear answer. Which is why I don't always post for every letter. A big part of it is I enjoy history and culture and such, so it's fun for me to learn about different foods, or time periods, or how bad the environment was for miners or sailors back in the day, etc... I dont think I have an easy answer (I can see I'm rambling). Norton I actually only began to like because I was spending so long working on my 1st analysis for him (and my perfectionism made me analyze all of Norton's essences before i could call it finished). Jose was because I love Captain Hook, and then after because of the plot holes that bothered me. Then for others, I think I enjoy making analyses to... try to sometimes change people's opinoions/beliefs. Like with Margaretha or Vera. With Edgar was because I was more interested in his story and him as a character only once I put together all his lore. Sort of goes on from there. I could ramble on but I'm going to get even more guilty. I hope this helps somewhat, but let me know if it doesn't and I'll keep going. Maybe the simple is A) I like history/culture/research, B) I like to convince people that certain characters arent as evil as they think or change beliefs I think aren't quite accurate, C) I like solving puzzles and I love story, D) I already think too hard about literally everything, and combined with my perfectionism, we get analysis

What old man???
"He’s some stray alley cat of a guy Fluorite found and has been dragging around. Not sure what his name is, I didn’t care to ask. She’s just been referring to him as “old man” from what I’ve seen. Not sure why she’s so interested in the guy, he looks like he could fall over at any given moment. The slightest breeze of wind and off he goes! Shouldve saw the look on the sucker’s face when he first saw the races, it was hilarious!"
