+3 more in easy Dutch for learners
This year I set my reading challenge for only a single book per month. It seems like I made more than double.
What I am particularly proud of is the fact that I read the books in three languages.
Czech is my native, and obviously the easiest to read.
I am already happy enough that reading beletry in English doesn’t feel hard any more. I’ve been learning English since the age of 11. Nobody at home could speak it, so I learned it only at school. I was at somewhat intermediate level after graduating from high school. But by now I got fluent in it. I take it as a great achievement on its own.
And now the Dutch! I started learning Dutch less than 2 years ago after we moved to the Netherlands. And now I see that I actually read 7 full books in Dutch this year! Sure, four of these books were written in simple Dutch, one was a book of children stories, one book of short stories written by an immigrant in not so complicated language, and one comic book. But still I am impressed by myself! 🙃📚
CZ - 8 books EN - 11 books NL - 7 books
Goal for 2021 is to finish a full adult book in Dutch... It’s already the work in progress. I am in the middle of the Dutch translation of Carry on by Rainbow Rowel, and a Dutch classics Beyond Sleep (Nooit meer slapen) by Frederik Hermans.

Summer Studying Challenge:
16th July - Do you have a lot of work to do for school or university or your job this summer?
I do! My university admittance Chinese exam is next week and I have several applications to send off and meetings to have with multiple schools for the next while. I’ll also be setting up my new place for work and keeping up with my tutoring and all of my other study methods so that I’m prepared if I’m admitted for the fall semester instead of spring. So I thought I’d create a little Summer-Goals challenge.
There are certain things I want to accomplish before next year (Grade 11!) and I’ve decided to make my own 30-days-of-learning style Summer Learning Challenge.
This is mostly to keep myself on track, but anyone else who wants to is welcome to do this as well. I’ll be following the tag #lanternslc
my goals for the summer:
start learning Japanese (so i can read the labels on my stationery)
improve my watercolour skills
read more (at least 5 books)
learn about satanism
visit some local thrift stores
learn html and coding (if the computers are gonna take over i should at least have some basic knowledge)
practice Spanish
fine-tune my French
do well on my summer math course
exercise more
how i’m going to achieve them:
Japanese: practice one page of Japanese a day
watercolour: paint at least 3 watercolours a week
read more: one chapter of a classic a day, pleasure reading instead of scrolling tumblr
learn about Satanism: spend an hour on satanic literature two times a week
visit thrift stores: plan a couple trips
learn html and coding: sign up for General Assembly’s free html classes.
practice Spanish: Duolingo
fine-tune my french: take notes on grammatical forms off Grammaire Progressive du Francais.
summer math course: take notes on every unit & activity, practice the daily homework
excercise more: an hour a day

30 Days Back To School Study Challenge
Day 2/30: What are you excited about?
I’m really excited about all the new people I meet. First I was a bit afraid, but now I’ve already met some nice girls and we have made plans for the weekend. Usually I’m knod of shy, but I started pushing myself to just talk to people. Mostly it’s just “Are you also waiting for arabic?” or “Do you know where room 131 is?”.
As I’ve mentioned before I started learning arabic. The first lesson was just introdiction and organization but tomorrow we will start learning the alphabet and I’m soooo excited! Also administrative law and european law, although everyone says that the pro is really strict...

ようこそ! Welcome! (◍•ᴗ•◍)✧
Thank you for stopping by!
I'd originally created this side-blog to track my progress in Japanese on a daily/weekly basis. However, I didn't follow up with it, which is why I'm creating this pinned post to keep myself accountable in 2023. This year, I hope to track my progress daily - even if there are days when I'm just doing a 3-minute lesson on Duolingo - as I believe this will help me set achievable goals for the future as well as understand which areas I need to work on more than others. I'll also be using this blog to post one kind of learning content at a time (a langblr challenge, for e.g.) and have this post to keep track of what I've done till date as well as where I'm going. Thank you for reading so far!
日本語を一緒に毎日勉強しましょう!!ᕙ( • ‿ • )ᕗ
🎯 CURRENT FOCUS FOR FEBRUARY 2023:
I'll be working through and posting vocabulary & notes from the series Activate Your Japanese - a drama by NHK focusing on using Japanese to communicate in real life.
🗓️Daily Progress Tracking: I'll use the hashtag #mainichi logs to track my daily progress.
📭Weekly Report: Every Saturday, I'll post a report of what I did in Japanese that week in terms of the four skills - Reading, Listening, Writing & Speaking. I'll also dedicate Saturdays to studying for the JLPT, so my report will include that as well.
✅Completed: This area will contain all the langblr challenges I've completed so far.

Langblr Reactivation Challenge - Week One - Day One
Hello langblr community! I know I’m a few days late, but hopefully I’ll catch up over the weekend.
I’m Lisi, a current university student who has been on langblr for a while now (six or seven years i think?? which is insane), studying a plethora of languages. Currently my focuses are Norwegian, French, and Arabic, while trying to maintain my Italian and Spanish.
I don’t have any other languages I’m planning to study for in the next year or two since I have quite a handful I’m already learning and I don’t want to overwhelm myself!! But if I had all the time in the world... I’d love to pick up Russian again, maybe Japanese, who knows.
I’m so grateful for this challenge put together by @prepolyglot I’ve needed to be back on here posting original content for a while now. I think the last langblr content I did was preparing my Italian for when I visited last fall. That was a year ago!!
Now I’m focusing on Norwegian so I can speak with my grandma (a native speaker), who is unfortunately suffering from dementia. My family has found that she replies and remembers events much better when we speak in Norwegian, so I’m focusing almost entirely on that, with the addition of French and Arabic just because I have university classes.
Anyway, good luck to all of us as we continue in this challenge!

Langblr Reactivation Challenge by @prepolyglot | 1.2
Write a list of goals you have for your target languages. Make both long term and short term goals. An overall goal could be to have the ability to talk with native speakers with ease and a smaller goal would be to finally learn that difficult grammar point that's been plaguing you for ages. How will you achieve them?
___
日本語
My main goal with Japanese right now is to be able to read/watch/play various Japanese media. A secondary goal is to be able to visit Japan and travel comfortably even in the less touristy spots. I'd especially like to be comfortable ordering food in restaurants since I am vegan and there can often be a lot of cultural differences that can make it hard to explain what I do and don't eat, even without a language barrier. I don't know when I'm going to get a chance to actually go to Japan, though, and if I do it definitely won't be frequently, which is why it isn't as much of a focus for me currently.
A more specific goal would be to read the manga series 下弦の月 by Ai Yazawa. It's one of her works that has never been localized into English, so the only way I'll be able to read it is in Japanese, and that's pretty motivating.
Some more short term goals include finishing all the currently available content on NativShark (a Japanese language learning site) by the end of the year, and watching all the videos on the Comprehensible Japanese YouTube channel. I've completed 85/296 lessons on NativShark so far, and if I keep up my current pace of 5 lessons a day, I should be able to complete that goal. For Comprehensible Japanese I've already completed the Complete Beginner playlist, and I should be able to finish the Beginner playlist by the end of the year as well. I think completing these two things will leave me in a good place to start next year, when I want to start doing more extensive reading and listening of native materials.
Español
I live in Southern California and Spanish is ubiquitous here, and it's a language I've always felt that I should learn so I can connect with more of the people in my community. It's hard to stay motivated about learning a language just because you feel you ought to, though, which is one of the reasons I haven't gotten very far with it. One personal goal I do have in this language though, is to be able to watch Guillermo del Toro's earlier films in their original Spanish.
Hrvatski
This is a very personal language for me, as my grandfather's family is from Croatia. My main goal is to learn about and be more connected to my personal history, and be able to visit with family there who don't speak English. I also recently stumbled upon the site croatian.film, and the idea of watching and reading about Croatian film is exciting. If you've noticed the theme, it's because I'm a bit of a film buff, so watching movies is a pretty good motivator for me.

Introducing a new langblr challenge... Langblr Word of the Day Challenge!
Hi all! I feel like I've not been making enough original langblr content lately, so I decided to make a langblr challenge! This challenge is quite simple and quite flexible: it starts on the first of February, and every day for the month has a different word (the word of the day). Your challenge is to use the word in your language learning that day, in whatever capacity you feel like! Here are a couple of ideas:
Translate the word into your target language
Find a synonym and/or an antonym for the word
Write a paragraph (or more) based around the word
Write one sentence containing the word
Learn 5 words related to the word
Create a vocab list based around the word
Search the word on unsplash, find a picture you like and describe it
Read and share an article related to the word/with the word in the title
Listen to a podcast about the word/with the word in the title
Watch an episode of a TV show about the word/with the word in the title
Have a conversation with a native or another learner about the topic
Feel free to interpret the word as literally or as creatively as you like.
Here's the word list - feel free to brainstorm some ideas ahead of time:
rain
love
memory
time
comfort
desire
flight
fun
song
puzzle
peace
sunshine
truth
curious
freedom
gift
rest
trust
letter
library
forest
create
night
play
high
ghost
ocean
magic
Use the hashtag #langblrwotdchallenge so we can find each other and check out each other’s posts. If you want to tag me too, I would absolutely love that!

OLCC Day 1
Hi everyone! So @languagesandshootingstars came up with an amazing challenge so that people can create more original content for language learning. It’s called the Original Langblr Content Challenge, or OLCC for short. I wanted to participate so that I am not just reblogging all the time and not giving back to the community. So, Day 1 of this challenge requires me to make an original masterpost of resources. I am choosing to do it for Spanish, with resources that I have used personally!
WEBSITES: https://www.duolingo.com/ https://www.memrise.com/home/ https://www.clozemaster.com/login https://www.lingodeer.com/ https://www.spanishdict.com/ https://www.wordreference.com/es/translation.asp
APPS: Duolingo App Memrise App SpanishDict App https://quizlet.com/mobile https://languagedrops.com/ https://tinycards.duolingo.com/ https://www.hellotalk.com/?lang=en https://www.tandem.net/ (Note: the last two apps, HelloTalk and Tandem, are for chatting with native speakers of your target language and helping them learn English/your native language.)
I hope you all will find this helpful! See you tomorrow for Day 2!

langblr reactivation challenge week 3
Day 7: How do you feel at the end of this challenge? Did you meet any goals while doing this? Do you feel more confident in your language abilities? Where do you think you'll go from here? Answer these questions either in your native language or your target language.
I feel really proud to have finished the challenge! It was an interesting varied way to jump start my langblr. I especially liked the challenge's variety, which gave me a lot of ideas for posts I could make that will keep me motivated. I think I will try to keep up with posting once a week about French or Arabic to keep me motivated with studying them! I also was more motivated to keep up with my original blog @aja-aja-hanja which is solely Korean content.
I also feel more motivated to set goals after seeing other langblrs work towards this challenge. Thanks so much @prepolyglot for starting this ! ^^

So based on this bright idea by @kuantikeshqip of using word clouds to think about vocab… Made a word cloud based on Faust: ein Tragodie by Wolfgang von Goethe.
Also basierend auf diesem coolen Gedanken von @kuantikeshqip, Wortwolken zu benutzen, um über Vokabeln nachzudenken … Eine Wortwolke basierend auf Faust: ein Tragödie von Wolfgang von Goethe.

Summer Studying Challenge:
15th July - Do you have a specific goal for this summer?
I have several but in terms of language learning my main goals are to prep for the HSK IV and improve my general confidence in speaking and listening to Chinese. My reading and writing are fine but due to quarantine my conversational skills have been lacking. I also hope to learn more songs in any language I can so if anybody has song recommendations feel free to message me!
