I don't get the Country Roads thing. I am currently living in hostels in Chicago while finding a new apartment and some of us went out to a piano bar that takes requests and they usually get that song requested and like, the 2 shy Swedish guys, the even quieter guys from the Netherlands, two German girls, a Finish guy, and this French couple lost their minds and were singing loud as fuck, whereas the guy from Boston, the girl from Nashville, and me were chillin. Wild.

Sky in the Deep by @adrienneyoungauthor was another single-sitting read for me one sunny afternoon. Inspired by Viking history, Sky in the Deep is a fast-paced story about courage, forgiveness and family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The action scenes weren’t too graphic or violent for my delicate sensibilities and the bonds between the characters felt hard-won and true. The story had all the elements I really enjoy, and I have decided that I need to read many more Viking (and Norse) fantasy! Hello everyone and hope you’re doing well. Today I’m sharing what I’m #currentlyreading (as always, a LOT) because clearly I enjoy a challenge! 🤣 On my Kindle I’m reading three things - Dead Head by @ceejayismeeejay the third book in the Sweetpea series which I’m buddy reading with the lovely @booksta.gem Then I’m also buddy reading Before Her Eyes by Jack Jordan with @buddyreadbooknook Our group read Do No Harm recently by the author and loved it so instantly wanted to read more! Finally on my Kindle I’m buddy reading Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels. This was the second ever winner of the @womensprize or the Orange prize as it was back then. Pictured book sleeve from @paperandword My audiobook listen is The Opposite Of Butterfly Hunting: The Tragedy and the Glory of Growing Up by Evanna Lynch (the actress played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies). I’m also continuing to make my way through Light Rains with Mr B which we’re reading together up until Feb 2023. Onto the books pictured! 😂 I’m just starting Reservoir 13 by Jon McGregor. One of my favourite authors do can’t wait for this. I’m finishing up Jude The Obscure with #thegreatthomashardyreadalong2022 it’s been both heartbreaking 💔 and epic! Voyager by Diana Gabaldon is the third book in the Outlander series and I’m about 150 pages in. My current re-read is Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. I’m loving being back in Ursula’s world so much! 😍 My current nonfiction is Women Don’t Owe You Pretty by Florence Given. Nearly halfway through this and the illustrations are brilliant. Finally I have the penultimate book in the @womensprize longlist, Creatures Of Passage by Morowa Yejidé. So intrigued by this one! So that makes it 11 books I’m currently reading. Oh, how I loved this book! A little slow to start but once I was hooked, I couldn’t stop reading! I devoured The Ten Thousand Doors of January by @alixeharrow in a single sitting, not noticing that day slipped into night. I thoroughly enjoyed the world building, the whimsy, the curiosity, the adventure, and the magic. Since finishing, I have found myself staring wistfully at doors, wishing they would transport me somewhere new! Everything about this book – the story, the design of the cover and the marketing pieces that came with the book were a delight and I am so thankful for it all! Despite my long held fascination with the Vikings (because of family ancestry), I can’t remember the last time I read a viking-age inspired book! I am so thankful for @titanbooks gifting me both ‘Sky in the Deep’ and the new release ‘The Girl the Sea Gave Back’ by @adrienneyoungbooks because I thoroughly enjoyed them! TGTSGB is a companion novel to SitD however you don’t have to read them in order! I am thankful that I received both because I couldn’t get enough of the world! . The Girl the Sea Gave Back follows Tova, a young woman living among the Svell, people who fear her, yet use her for her Truthtongue abilities. She casts the stones to see what the future holds; the Svell are looking for war and interpret the foretold destruction as that of their enemies, not of their own. Her place amongst the Svell is fragile, and their fear threatens her very existence. The leaders of the Svell are dangerously divided; will Tova be able to protect herself, and prevent the destruction of the lands? . As someone who dislikes violence, these books are brutal, but the violence wasn’t too much for me to read. I loved the mythology and the clans and all the viking-inspired content! I have always enjoyed books with ‘place’ and/ or ‘home’ as the central themes and this book was no different! I would have loved further character development and was happy that the romance was not central to the story, rather a slow burn. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed #The GirlTheSeaGaveBack and would recommend both books be added to your TBRs! Happy Saturday bookworms! Today is the first day of holidays (my parents are in the air flying to the UK right now!!!!!!) and we’re all on our way to Cornwall! Hello everyone! Hope your week is going splendiferously. I’m back today with a books that match my sleeves post inspired by Claire at @youcantbeatagoodbook when I saw it on her page. The sleeve itself (on the top of the stack) is from @paperandword and I’m absolutely obsessed with their sleeves. They do paperback, e-reader and hardback options and this particular sleeve has the beautiful tree imagery on the outside and a lovely turquoise colour on the inside which you can just about see in this image. (Not sponsored by the way, I’m just a fan! 🤣) These are some of my most stunning black and white books. I’ve read The Five and The White Road (both favourites of mine and HIGHLY recommended).
