Working on the new game (PCon)

Hi! It's been a while~!

During this time I was working on the new game in Unity called 'PCon - Is that ridiculous planet contest really the only way to save humanity?' (yeah, that's a long title XD).

As for now, I want to share with you a couple of things that I managed to finish!

The designs of all the characters are completed

The design of all the screens that appear in the game is completed

The main mechanics surounding the main game loop are completed in the most basic way (so it works, but will be better XD)

Next I'm going to focus on making sure that I can walk through the whole game, and theeen it will be just updating all the stuff that already works, making art and animations and writing dialogues.

I'm super excited for this game, because it's going to be something much different from the previous games! Still can't really say when is it going to be finished, but I hope it will be worth waiting for!

I saw (some) complaints about Eripon announcing her grad at H!Pcon because they hate grad announcements during concerts now but she's been there 14 years and announced on the anniversary of her debut announcement. It was very poignant. If it were a member of 15-17th gen who announced it would be shocking and would have ruined the happy vibe of H!Pcon but everyone has been expecting another grad. I think it was a great choice by Eripon tbh.

Guild Wars 20 year anniversary

The 20th Anniversary of Guild Wars launched a great surprise at its loyal fans by offering not one, but three new flavours of joy: We have previously bonus-only and incredibly niche, rare items become normal drops throughout the game. Some of these were so painfully specific to a certain time and place. For example, if you lived in Seoul in 2006 and liked Coke you might have gotten a promotional Coke item. Or if you lived in Taiwan and pre-ordered Prophecies. Most of these skins I'd never seen in my life until now. Of course, others I have myself via /bonus, but it's very nice to have a chance to get these skins in different stats. My hunt for the Glacial Blades daggers continues...

The second flavour is the "of the Profession" mods which set a primary attribute to 5 - in other words, an Elementalist can have 5 Fast Casting (21% faster spell casting) a Ritualist can have 5 Expertise (20% cheaper Binding Rituals), so on and so forth. This is quite incredible, and it opens up so many new avenues for build ideas, breathing new life into the otherwise cryogenically preserved game meta. And they also have a pretty coloured animation effect on these items to boot.

And finally to top it off with a sweet aftertaste, certain pcons now last 30 minutes instead of 10. 30 minute War Supplies, Cupcakes and Golden Eggs? Wonderful!

UK Supreme Court Ruling on the Definition of a Woman

I wrote about a similar topic recently where I lampooned DA:I for going way too far in pandering to certain groups while punishing others, as well as making me question the purpose of "LGBT". But let me start by saying that I was, in penance-laden apology, brainwashed by pro-trans ideology. I'm a (relatively) normal gay man in the UK who grew up in the 00s. I supported LGBT, including the T. Live and let live. I did not sign up for what it has become: reality-denying, cultish devotion and religious upholding of impossible beliefs that actively work to harm and deal out detriments to real, and I mean REAL women.

Despite my BEST friend in the world (a lesbian, the group most at risk of a change in law allowing men to enter lesbian-only spaces) telling me the truth about the subject back in around 2022, I was still convinced by the idea that trans women were women, trans rights were women's rights, that sex was mutable, you could "become" a woman, and therefore a lesbian, etc etc. I was propelled to take on these ideas in the face of the overwhelming oppression of "if you don't agree with us you are a bigot / nazi" - who can stand up to that? Well, Women for Scotland did, and the Supreme Court of the UK has ruled unanimously that the definition of a woman for the purposes of the Equality Act is a biological woman. Biological sex, not certificated sex. You are born female, so you are female.

The resounding vindication of this decision must be a wake-up call. I feel it as a gay man and it has totally shaken off any doubt I had before - I am sympathetic and supportive of trans people and there is no hate in my heart for anyone who wishes to change their gender, but I don't associate myself with the trans movement. I am not "queer", I am not one of the "LGBT", I don't "identify" as anything. I *AM* a man, I *AM* gay. And that is enough. The nonsense in our media and our courts has to come to an end.

Work Stuff

I'll keep it brief because it's rather boring, but work has improved. Big pay rise, new office space, career plodding along quite well, so I may stay at this company for as long as it continues to work for me.

MTV's Downtown - Alex

Binged this show that came out in 1999. I would have been too young at the time to watch MTV as I would have been 7 at the time, but watching it now as an adult... it's truly lovely and very cozy television from a bygone era. Would highly recommend - it's all on Youtube. And Alex is so cute... heart eyes emoji.

To avoid common name confusion: Vinegaroons are tailed whip scorpions, uropygi. They are chelicerates like spiders and scorpions. They are quite ugly, eat other insects, and have a long narrow tail. They are called vinegaroons because they spray a nasty chemical mix from said tail if frightened. I want one. Whip spiders are the tailless whip scorpions, amblipygi, which are again also chelicerates and even more ugly. No tail and no vinegar mix.

Lets look at some of these good boys!

Here is a vinegaroon/ whip scorpion/ Uropygi!

You can see that long tail and the fat abdomen that they use to spray defensive chemicals. These guys are awesome! Don’t let their appearance scare you. The worst they can do is give you a pinch if you are harassing them. They do give you ample warning beforehand!

The chemical spray doesn’t hurt your skin but will sting something fierce if it gets into a mucus membrane, like your eyes and nose.

They are found all over the world, but Mastigoproctus giganteus giganteus is the USA’s only native species.

Their order, Amblypygi, means ‘blunt Rump’ lol. But look at this beautiful boy. Their pedipalps can extend super long, cause they need it to grab up delicious bugs. Some species and individuals can have really long pedipalps! 

Euphrynichus amanica goanna give you the ol’ razzle dazzle.

They can bite and pinch, but it’s rare. Don’t be mean to them and handle them gently and you’ll be okay. 

Both species make good moms, with the mom carrying her babies around on her back until they are old enough to go off on their own :3 

We are lucky in the USA, cause we get both species down in the lower warmer states. Good babies. Best babies <3
