Empty Page (Pearl x reader)
When hit with a creative block, you spend some time on the Hermitcraft server, Pearl's base being your last stop. An evening spent in her newly constructed ballroom changes your perspective, for better or for worse.
A/N: This was really fun to write, at first, it was going to be just some fluff but I can't help myself and I made it a bit sad- The next piece after this will probably be a bit longer, so here's something shorter and sweeter to keep us going in the meantime. Inspired by Empty Page from the Crane Wives. (1261 words)

Summer has taken over the fields. Flapping in the wind, mills and turbines drone constantly into midday, as smaller, trilling bots harvest the countless crop circles dotted around a giant factory. Despite the sun’s place high atop the cloudless sky, your shadow casts long upon the walls of the workshop. With your easel in front of you, beside the vibrant green and blue of the land below, you are now more than ever terrified at the sight of the pure white canvas.
You’re a tourist, not a hermit, staying briefly to gather ideas for your work. Beautiful paintings lined your halls back home, scenery and portraits, all ten cent copies of better works. This excursion of yours is the longest you’ve been away from the house. Still, the fresh air that would usually jump start your creative muscles has done little to help get you out of your rut.
In your bag, you rifle through your sketch book. Assorted scenes line the pages, Gem’s antenna, Skizz’s pyramid, other smaller locations. None of them are interesting. Experimenting with composition has led to nowhere, which is how you know things have gotten dire.
After years of creating and creating, maybe you’ve just run out. Used up all your best ideas, some of them in the stupidest ways, and now you’re dry. The postcard you’d sketched when first arriving calls to you from out the other belongings. A nice sunset, easy. It looks decent, but something’s missing. This isn’t as good as it could be. It’s not yours.
“Hows the painting coming along?” Pearl pops out of her workroom and you almost send your bag rolling downhill.
“Uh, not smoothly?” You say, grimacing from the slight shame. You’ve been up here since dawn with nothing to show for it except a wad of folded paper in your pocket. “Here, thanks for letting me stay with you. I wanted to make you something better, but in the meantime, I hope this’ll suffice.”
She takes the sheet from you with a curious grin and gawks when she sees the charcoal image: her dogs in a variety of poses, one jumping at the camera, another snoozing under a tree, the others doing much of the same.
“This looks incredible.“ She points to one of the hounds, salivating on a piece of beef. “You got his face just right!” She grins and stares a little longer at the page, carefully folding it back up.
“It’s no use being a perfectionist.” She offers tentatively as you snicker and bring your knees to your chest.
“That’s rich coming from you.” You snort softly. “It’s not the issue, though.” The muscles around your throat close as you speak through gritted teeth.
“It’s alright if the juices aren’t flowing.” She wiggles her fingers at the word. “You’ll get them working, eventually.”
“You don’t get it Pearl. I’ve been at this for weeks now! It’s not a matter of inspiration or whatever.” You ball your fists into the grass with a sharp sigh.
“It’s like every brushstroke is a part of someone else’s vision. I can paint sure, but I can’t make the important stuff, the stuff that makes my art mine.” A second passes. You consider brushing her off, making a joke and pretending you aren’t as affected as you are.
You quietly yelp as Pearl pulls you into her soft embrace, a hand on your back and another in your hair. “You will eventually. Until then, there’s not much to do but try again.”
Her marred alabaster skin feels like a fever against your own, as if the sunburn scars dotting her shoulders could return the heat that caused them.
“If you weren’t hugging me right now, I would’ve called you a callous ass.”
“Hey!” She squeezes you and even in the face of that barren canvas, you laugh along with her.
The rest of the week goes by and once or twice you feel that maybe your spark will return, but it never does. Pearl is a constant, keeping you silent company as she works on a building just out of sight. It’s a massive construct of arches and polished stone, bricks placed one by one making up the roof.
On your last day, you ditch the oil paints, leaving the tubes scattered at your bedside, to watch the sunset. That scorching ball of light fades into the horizon as Pearl hops down from her project, finally finished, to watch it beside you.
“It looks really good, Pearl. The arches are so detailed.” You crane your head to look at the building, trying to see through the stained glass inside. Pearl grins beside you and turns to lean against the rock dividing the terrain into terraces.
“It’s gonna be a ballroom.” She states, crossing her arms and puffing her chest. Her eyes narrow, as if she can see the future through them, all the things that could be.
“I’m a bit sad I won’t be around to see it.” Your departure has been a topic avoided even in the days leading up to this one. Your things are packed, all that’s left is the mess of paints and pallets.
“You can take a look at it now! Come on, I want to show you something.” She grabs your hand, dashing up the steps two at a time. Her hat almost falls as she looks back to the darkening orange sky.
“You really outdid yourself.” Your voice echos as you take a hesitant step inside, guided tenderly by Pearl. Her hand is calloused from hauling materials and spending all her time building. They’re kind not in spite of the roughness.
There’s something about her. Even now, her steps are passionate as she brings you to the center of that empty room. Her back and shoulders are sculpted, with skin that has seen days of work spilling slightly over an inky undershirt.
“Here, let’s give you one happy memory before you go.” She untangles your hands, letting one fall to your waist and the other sit comfortably on your shoulder. A figure bolts just out of sight, high up in the rafters, and music pours from a jukebox. You can’t help but chuckle in disbelief.
“You’ve given me tons of good memories.” Trying to ignore the outline of her fingertips on you, they readjust their grip as she takes the first steps of a waltz. “You didn’t have to do this.”
“I know, but you didn’t get what you came here for. Pretty disappointing trip, if you ask me.” She moves slowly, looking to you as your footing mirrors hers.
“I think I need to find what sets me apart.” Your grip on Pearl’s own waist firms, taking a silent breath and moving along to the music at its normal pace.
“You’ve helped with that.” The words come out of your mouth in a whisper as the music crescendos and with a palm to her back, you dip her. Dangerously close to the floor, but still safe in your hold. “So no, not disappointing at all.”
Her earnings reflect the fading crimson of the sky outside, peaking through the windows and casting your joint shadow on the wooden floor. Her hand reaches back towards your hair, fingers finding their perch on the nape of your neck, thumb ghosting the curve beside your lip.
“Come back whenever you like. I’ll be here.” Her brows knit as you pull her back up, keeping her close.
“I will, I promise. When I do, I’ll paint you and it’ll be the best thing I’ve ever made.”

You scrubbed angrily at your cheeks as tears slipped down them. You took a deep breath, closing your eyes. Everything was okay. It was fine. You looked around at your surroundings, trying to orientate yourself. You were heading in the direction of your base. Okay, good. When you had left Pearl’s base, you had just stormed off in a random direction. You were mildly thankful that you had decided to run off in this direction.
You kept walking towards your base. You wiped your eyes as you tried to keep your mind off what had just happened. It was supposed to be a short conversation to pass the time until Gem arrived, something that had been on your mind for a long time that you thought you should mention- the fact that you felt neglected, seeing as you lived on the opposite side of the map to your partners. It wasn’t something too serious in your head, just something you were mentioning because you missed them. Pearl had hummed softly, petting your head gently and saying that you were free to come over any time. Tango, on the other hand, had huffed out a laugh, commenting that it was your own fault that you were living so far away. It was a fair accusation. You had decided to live a bit farther away from your partners than normal. You frowned when he had said that, though, sighing.
“I just wish we could spend more time together. That’s all.” You said quietly, laying your head back against the couch cushions. Pearl nodded absentmindedly, as if she was about to fall asleep. Her eyes blinked slowly as she gave you a soft smile.
Tango rolled his eyes with a grin, “You could always just move back here. I told you not to move so far. It's not our fault you don’t spend time with us anymore. We’re almost always hanging out.”
Again, while it was a fair assessment, you felt a stab of hurt as you thought about it. He was right. He, Pearl, and Gem were constantly hanging out together since they were based so close together. Did they miss you as much as you missed them? You were so lonely where you had based, besides your few neighbors hanging out with you sometimes, but you had already started your megabase. It would be such a hassle to move it now and would send hundreds of hours down the drain.
Pearl hummed absently, “You are a bit far.” She murmured. “We’ll need to visit more often.” Her eyes drifted closed and she buried her face in your shoulder. I nodded in agreement, turning to press a kiss to her cheek.
Tango scoffed, “I told you not to move so far away.” He repeated. “Your fault now.” It sounded harsher than he probably realized, but he didn’t correct his tone. You blinked at him softly, brows furrowing as you frowned at him.
“It was a pretty area and the things I have planned need a lot of room, you know that.” You said.
He huffed, rolling his eyes, “yeah, yeah, I know, I know. Your base and projects are more important than your partners.”
You paused. Was he serious or was he just making a really cruel joke? “Excuse you?”
Tango glanced at you. He had to be able to tell the sour mood he had inflicted on you. “You heard me! You moved all the way over there, even farther than freaking Joe and you didn’t even consider what it might do to our relationship.”
Pearl’s eyes opened, but you barely spared her any mind as you gaped at him in disbelief. “What it would do to our relationship?!” You repeated. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Am I wrong to assume that we’ll still be a loving couple even if I move a little farther than usual?”
“Oh, please, you had to know that it would strain us.”
You stood up from the couch, staring at him with pain-stricken eyes. Pearl glanced between the two of you with confusion, having not fully payed attention. The door opened and Gem walked in. She went to speak, but you spoke first, glaring at Tango. “You think our relationship is in a strain right now? What do you mean by that?” You hissed.
Gem stopped in her tracks, blinking in confusion. She moved over to the side, placing her things down. “Hey, woah, what’s this about a relationship being in a strain? We’re fine, aren’t we?”
Tango crossed his arms, “We would be if they weren’t so far away. If our relationship fails, it’s all their fault. Honestly, maybe we should just-” He quickly stopped talking, eyes wide as if he had said something he hadn’t meant to. His eyes snapped to yours.
You stared at him, frozen. Tears gathered in your eyes. You didn’t move. You couldn’t. Did he just say that? “Maybe you should just… break up with me?” You breathed, finishing his thought. “Is that what you were going to say?”
The room was tense. Pearl, finally caught up on the situation, looked at Tango with wide eyes. Gem was staring at you in panic. She spoke first.
“What, no! He didn’t mean that.” Her eyes darted to his. “Tell them you weren’t gonna say that! You were going to say something else, right?” He was quiet. His gaze moved to the floor. “Oh, oh, God.” She murmured, her tone filled with horror.
“You- why would you say that?” Pearl asked quietly, leaning over to Tango. “Just because we are a bit… strained… doesn’t mean we’re going to break up with them.”
Her words made you stare at her now. Has this been a conversation before? You let out a shaky breath, eyes darting between your three partners, “Have- Have you three been discussing the strain in our relationship?” You swallowed thickly.
“No, no, no.” Gem assured. “We just- We’ve been talking about how we miss you a lot. Nothing about a strain.”
Pearl nodded slowly, agreeing. Tango pursed his lips and nodded before he spoke again. “We haven’t spoken about it yet.”
“Yet?” You repeated slowly. “So, it is a problem you need to talk about?” You wiped your cheek as a tear hit your skin. You shook your head. Your body moved before you could even react. It was childish, perhaps, running out into the darkness with no light or anything, but you did just that. As you ran, you didn’t even think about the fact that you had left your wings back at Pearl’s house. You didn’t think about how Gem and Pearl called your name from the porch. You did think about how you heard Gem turning on Tango, demanding why he had said those things to you. You tripped over a stick as you ran, slowing to a walk as you caught yourself. You had just messed up everything, hadn’t you?
Your house came into view and you quickly shielded yourself inside. You moved around quickly, completing menial tasks to keep any thoughts about Tango and Gem and Pearl off your mind. When you finished all your inside tasks, you huffed. You needed more to do. You scanned your house before your eyes fell on a blueprint you were working on. It was practically done, just missing a few small parts. You sat at your desk and worked on it diligently.
When you were done, you took a deep breath. Memories of what happened at Pearl’s base flooded into your mind and you bit your lip. More distraction was needed, it seemed. You hesitated before grabbing the blueprint and heading outside. The sun was slowly peeking over the trees around you at this point, providing enough light for you to see what was happening. You posted the blueprint on a post you had and started gathering materials.
Once the shulkers you had were full, you quickly began starting on the build. One block at a time. You worked quickly and diligently, focusing all your despair into your build. Your mind, admittedly, was not on the build at all, though. Your brain flashed with thoughts about the fight. Could that even be considered a fight? Was something like that grounds for breaking up? Were the three- your favorite people ever- going to break up with you? You hated that you didn’t know what was happening in people’s minds. You wished to know what Tango was thinking right now. Was he thinking of how to finally break up with you? Was he thinking about inviting you over and telling you he was sick of having to travel so far to visit you? That wasn’t like him, but you didn’t think he was capable of saying the awful things from last night, either.
Your heart stopped as your foot hit the end of the wall you were standing on. You slid off the side, yelping as your ankle twisted awkwardly. You fell off the wall. Hard. You groaned as you brushed hair from your face. You tried to sit up, but pain flooded your entire body. You laid still, groaning at the pain you were in. Great, now I’m going to die painfully. You thought to yourself. How could this day get any worse?
Apparently, the universe wanted to say a big fuck you. You raised your arm, ignoring all the pain you felt to try and contact someone on your communicator. With a swear, you realized your communicator was broken. A large crack down the glass on the screen that made it impossible to use. The screen was dark, too, so perhaps something else was wrong with it.
You laid there, trying not to cry. This had to be the worst day of your entire life. What could possibly be worse than this?
You had to stop asking yourself that.
The sky above you thundered and within a few minutes, rain started to pelt you from above. The sky, which just an hour ago was fully blue and clear, was dark and stormy. You felt the water soaking your clothes and making your hair wet. This was rock bottom. This was like bedrock, and nothing went farther than bedrock.
You laid there for a solid hour, in excruciating pain. You hoped someone would come by- a mob, even- to kill you. It would possibly take days to respawn, but at least you wouldn’t feel this much pain anymore. Alas, no such luck. Not a single zombie, creeper, or skeleton headed your way.
You wanted to cry, scream, do something to help the pain. But nothing happened. The world around you was silent.
And then, you heard voices. Familiar ones.
“Tango, you are going to apologize to them so bad. I cannot believe you said something like that!”
“It was stupid, I know! I’m sorry! I don’t know what came over me! I would never want to break up with them.”
“Yeah, well, tell that to them when we- Oh!” Pearl gasped, running over to where you were laying, “Love, what happened?” Tango and Gem’s eyes widened as they saw what Pearl was talking about. The two rushed over, kneeling beside you.
“I was building.” You mumbled. You were exhausted right now. “I wasn’t fully paying attention because…” You trailed off. They knew what you meant. “And I tripped and fell off. It hurts so bad.” You let out a low whimper.
Pearl scanned you quickly before glancing at her partners. “Gem, grab their legs. Tango, make sure you keep their midsection up.” Pearl instructed. “We’re going to move you inside the house, okay, darl?” You nodded, too exhausted to even respond at this point. The three of them got in their positions and lifted you. The pain was horrendous.
It felt like years before you were placed onto the couch in your home. Gem sat beside your head, petting your hair gently as Pearl hurried to gather supplies to make healing potions. Tango hesitated near the end of the couch, eyeing your situation.
It was quiet. The only sound was the low whimpering you let out every few moments and Pearl’s use of the mortar in the kitchen. Then, Gem spoke.
“You shouldn’t have done that to them.” She said quietly. You blinked tiredly, trying to figure out what she meant. “You made them leave us and now look, they're hurt.”
Tango was quiet before he sighed, “You’re saying it's my fault?” He didn’t sound angry at the notion. In fact, he seemed to accept it as the truth. “It was. I don’t- I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I don’t know why I said those things.”
You wanted to say something. To tell him that it was okay. It hurt to hear him sound so defeated and in pain. But you couldn’t speak. After being in such bad pain for hours, you were too tired. Your eyes drifted shut and you fell asleep.
You woke up hours later to Pearl pouring a healing pot into your mouth. You sat up slightly to help it go down and you noticed a considerable amount of pain had left. You sat up fully, sitting normally. You peered around. Pearl moved to sit beside you and you noticed that Gem was leaning against the couch, sitting on the floor asleep. You bent over, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head. She stirred slightly, but ultimately, she burrowed into her sweatshirt.
You glanced around the room. No sign of your fiery boyfriend. Your brows cinched. “Where is he?” You murmured quietly.
Pearl hummed softly, placing the healing pot in your hand so you could drink the rest of it. “Outside. Said he needed some space. He… blames himself for you getting hurt.” She hesitated before sighing, “He didn’t mean it. He really didn’t. He told us he was overwhelmed and wanted to be with all of us, and then you started talking about how you missed us too and he just… I don’t know. He didn’t mean it.”
You nodded slowly. You downed the rest of the potion before standing. You wobbled lightly before you headed to the door. You walked out, finding Tango sitting on the steps of your base. His head was in his hands and he was mumbling to himself. You couldn’t decipher what he was saying.
“T?” You called quietly. You trailed over to stand behind him. His ears perked up, but he didn’t look up from his hands. You hesitated before moving to sit beside him. “Tango?”
He slowly pulled his head from his hands, peering at you. His eyes were rimmed with red. “I’m sorry.” He whispered, his voice cracking from crying. “God, I- I don’t- I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean any of it.”
“I know.” You replied softly. You moved slowly, leaning your head against his shoulder.
“You didn’t deserve that.”
“I didn’t.” You agreed.
It was quiet again. You heard the door open behind you and the two girls from inside appeared at your side. Pearl sat beside Tango, while Gem sat on the other side of you. Your hand reached for Tango’s. He hesitated before slipping it into his. Your other hand was grabbed by Gem, and Tango’s by Pearl.
“I love you.” Tango whispered. He was talking to all three of you. “I’m sorry.”
Pearl leaned over, pressing a soft kiss to his temple before smiling gently, “We all are.” She looked over at you. “We should have been better partners to you, Y/N.” She murmured.
Gem nodded softly, “I’m sorry for blaming you, Tango. It was all of us.”
Tango shook his head, “You were perfectly in line to do that. I deserved it. I was an asshole.” It was quiet as we stayed there together. The rain had gone, leaving it slightly muggy, but it was peaceful. Birds chirped in the distance.
“We’ll get through this.” You whispered. “We always do.” Your partners all nodded. Tango and Gem squeezed your hand. “I love you.”
“I love you.” The three of them repeated in tandem. They would have to have a nice, long chat later about everything that had happened, but for now, they knew everything would be okay and that was enough.

Autumn with Pearl Headcanons
Contains: Platonic Fluff
I have a few more of these coming too, it's a nightmare with the wattpad app crashing but I'm doing my best, again formatting and I will be able to masterlist all these headcanons soon, enjoy!
------------------
Being Pearl's neighbour means you get to spend a lot of time together as the seasons change
Neither of you decorate seasonally, but it's interesting to see the natural change between your bases
Opposing colour schemes become almost one as autumn comes, making the split between each of your landscapes compliment each other
The two of you embraced that, further blurring the line between your bases as each autumn has passed
You'll often create a big pile of leaves on the divide, your dogs and Pearl's dogs will play in them together Every now and then you and Pearl will join in
The two of you both love to cook and bake, so trades happen often
You worked together to build a transportation system for food, although it ended up being for much more than that
You'll trade all sorts, from shiny rocks to plants that have somehow managed to form a new species from both your gardens mixed. It happens more than either of you would like to admit
When the sky is clear you and Pearl like to take the dogs out and up to the highest point of her base You'll both wrap up and go watch the sun set
Sometimes you'll even meet up with your other neighbours and have a get together with all the dogs, but usually it's just you and Pearl
The first year the two of you lived beside each other you had made her a friendship bracelet, which is now a tradition you both uphold each fall
You make yours with all manner of things you find around the house and garden and Pearl does the same It's not much, but it is nice to do
With the change in weather often the plants outside struggle
It's nice to have each other to rely on if either of you need help clearing anything out
Not to mention the knowledge you both have of the plants in your areas means between the two of you most plants are able to survive not just the fall, but the winter too
It's also just nice to have the company, for you, Pearl and both of your dogs

Scott had not mattered as much, yes it had hurt being a second choice and being villainized for no good reason, but to Pearl she no longer cared. It had first started in last life, yes Pearl had known you for longer but the feelings had slowly started to flow as she got to know you.
Last life was not as bad as others had said at least not for the now crazed lady, from the kindness that Scott had shown Pearl at the start when everyone had found their allies to the welcoming aura that had held her through the harsh reality of the games you gave her, Every night nightmares would wake her up in a sweat and you were always there to help.
Now it was a new era. A time where only one could be trusted and where life’s hang from a thread.
An knot of string connected the players all though unseen the string was clear as day as something as small as a scratch one had indured now shows up on another. A bumpy feeling of grass and pebbles lay on the ground of the bamboo forest prick at Pearls skin as she rests to take a bite of food, feeling a little bad that it might cause discomfort to her old partner and now soulmate(that hates her) she stands up quickly to continue the search for you and the others.
A bad experience is what could best describe the start of the game, in only a few hour of exploring these new lands she can see some of her friends, as soon as she walks up to Scott and Cleo their smiles fade as Pearl and Scott both cringe at the memories of last games. A acorn pops of a maple tree and hit Scott in the head be for Scott can yelp Pearl has already beat him to it. After that things didn’t get better Pearls old friend and partner now soulmate has left her, not that she really loved him but in a game like this why did this have to happen to her out of anyone why did her soulmate have to start hating her.
Pearls movements are slow but that now changes as she sees a group of body’s in the distance. “PEARL!!” A voice yells over, that voice, their voice. Even in this place you still mange the smile a ray of home, Pearl can’t help but speed up and run towards you with a smile.
“Huh?”
Another person with beautiful pink hair clings on to Y/ns arm and Pearl stops. Lizzie and you stand there waving at her curious to why her pace has suddenly changed. Closer and closer she can see a clearer picture, a small cherry tinted slash is painted on both you and Lizzie’s face. Trying as hard as she can Pearl slowly smiles again but this time it wrong, it all fake and some how you don’t notice.
Are you blind?
It was hard, over the time of this game you and Lizzie had gotten closer and became better friends which led to Pearl seeing all the things you use to do with or for her. Pearl was all alone in her tower with no one but her sweet Tilly.
“Are you blind? I love you you idiot”

The Watchers
Tumblr media
by @hybbart
They are beings akin to gods who exist outside the realms and universes, in their own unique timeline and space.
They oversee and control all aspects of worlds (realms, dimensions, universes) but cannot interfere with the free will of the beings living in those worlds.
Time does not flow linearly for the Watchers; all worlds exist simultaneously from their point of view.
Rules of the Watchers
1. Non-Interference: Do not get involved with the people of the worlds.
2. Boundary Rule: Do not physically enter the worlds.
3. Jurisdiction Respect: Do not interfere with the worlds or duties assigned to other Watchers.
4. Preservation of Order: Do not create or destroy worlds without collective agreement.
5. Secrecy: Maintain the Watchers' existence as hidden from the inhabitants of the worlds.
6. Emotional Detachment: Do not form attachments to any being or world you oversee.

can i request reader x hermits (seperate) ? like reader has a bunch of old scars and on a hot day they wear a tank top and expose all of their scars? completely okay if not AND TAKE CARE OF URSELF🫶
Okay, let me tell you, as someone with quite a visible scar on my face (I was a very courageous and dumb kid) and a few less visible ones on my hand, I get asked about it so so often and this request hits hard and I have decided to put my whole soul into it as headcanons. I've just picked a couple hermits I feel would have different reactions to it so here u go!
HEADCANON:
Grian
This boy is not going to mention it, like, at all
He has his own bad memories and sad backstory so he understands that you might not want to talk about it
The only reason he would ever talk about it would be if you ever showed any discomfort or insecurity about it
If you just never talked about it he wouldn’t either
Maybe at some point he would reassure you about yourself if you’re both deep in a relationship, but he would never explicitly mention the scars
If you do mention them at all, it depends on how you approach it
He knows how to tell situations very well and I think he would still be careful about it
If you approach it humorously, like it doesn’t affect you then he will too
Maybe ask you where some of the bigger ones are from and expect you to tell him some good stories
If you get uncomfortable about them, or insecure he will reassure you
“I love you no matter what” or “I think they make you look cool”
He will always be supportive
Mumbo
He does try his best, but the moment he sees you he can’t help it
Shock on his face as he clearly looks you over
It’s clear he is concerned, and if you’re alone he will ask you about it
Stuff like if you’re okay, if you ever want to talk about it or if you need anything
If you reassure him you’re fine, he will totally dote on you after he is done being shocked
Will kiss your exposed scars and talk about how pretty or handsome you are to him
He will totally try to spend extra time with you, both because he learned a new thing about you that makes him love you even more but also because he is secretly making sure you’re totally okay
Even if you say you are, he would rather make sure
He will keep a little bit of a closer eye on everything you do and every little emotion you display just to keep himself sure you’re really okay
Either way he loves you how you are
Scar
This fool, this dumbass man
He cannot keep his mouth shut at all
He thinks communication is so much easier and better than having to just bottle things up or keep guessing what everyone else is thinking
So he just mentions it, asks where they’re from if you’re okay with him asking
He tries to guess it, if you’re not
The guesses will start out super detailed stories that are so far fetched as to ease you into it
“So this one is obviously from a wolf attack, where you managed to fight off 3 wolfs the size of the moon with nothing but your bare hands”
Then he will slowly try to reel it in and guess them more accurately
If one is sort of a piercing one, he will say you lost a duel in a bow fight
The one on your arm? That one is a cut from training your sword skills
He is just spitballing, trying to get it right
Either way he will pester you until you open up to him, he will not let it go
He thinks it’s so cool and really makes you look tough
Will ask you to protect him since you’re so strong
Will also definitely trace your scars whenever you are idle and he has the chance to
Even if you ask him not to, it just happens and he will laugh it off
He starts to slowly like them, the more he sees them
Every rare moment you show them, he slowly appreciates them more and more
Really weird but he has favorites
He just loves them to be honest
It makes you so uniquely you
Etho
No matter what he will start out by making some sort of snarky little comment
“Did you fight your kitchen drawer and lose or something?”
It’s not mean spirited at all, it’s supposed to be humorous
He just likes to approach things with lightheartedness and jokes
He knows it might be a serious topic, but his objective is always to turn it into something fun or less serious to try and make you feel better about it
He won’t dote on you or reassure you like the others unless you open up about it
That doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you the way you are, his love is just more subtle like that
It’s small things you wouldn’t immediately notice about his reaction to it
Sometimes he will look at one of them and imagine the pain or maybe even accidentally imagine the person who might have given it to you
It’ll make him look at them with hatred, but it’s not directed at you even if it would seem that way
He’d make up little fantasies of revenge in his head to clear the thoughts
At this point you might even be the one who will have to reassure him that it’s no problem anymore, if it ever even was
Bdubs
He will instantly be all over you, and no matter your approach he will be excited
Unless you just start straight up crying he won’t notice if you’re sad or insecure about them cause he is just so excited about seeing a different part of you
He’s the same as Scar where he wants to know where every little scar comes from
If it’s serious he will of course reassure you, but he will definitely also compliment them no matter what
He just think they suit you, and in the end Bdubs is sort of just a hopeless romantic
Anything that is a part of you, he loves it
Anything that is you is beautiful
Which in turn makes your scars beautiful too
He feels closer to you, looking at them because in the end it tells your story and your past, making him feel like he is closer to it
It’s something he’s probably been sad about before, that not every inch of your life is tied together, that there are parts of you that he can’t be a part of which is before you met
But seeing the scars can help him understand that part, and sort of relate to you in a way that he finds very intimate
So of course he will pester you about them any given time they are on display
He does love them, just as much as he loves you
Pearl
She’s definitely the most careful out of all of them, at least out of the ones who want to approach the topic at all
As much as she is a rambunctious personality she is also an extremely caring thoughtful individual
And as much as she doesn’t want to overstep her boundaries she also has to know you’re okay
So she approaches it very head on, but she picks her words very carefully
“I don’t know if you ever want to talk about it, but I’m willing to listen if you ever want to tell me anything about your scars.”
That’s all she ever says about it, and at that point it’s up to you to go to her about it
She wants to be as respectable to you about it as possible
She has the mindset that she doesn’t need to know if you don’t want her to know
As long as she’s sure you’re okay now, your past doesn’t matter to her
For what she thinks about them look wise, she does think they suit you
It’s not going to change how she thinks about you, knowing you have a few scars
And she has a couple herself so it doesn’t really matter
She still loves you
Tango
Tango is probably the one with the roughest reaction
He is pretty emotionally driven, and just seeing something like that on you genuinely breaks his heart
It’s almost like he is going through the pain you went through with every single scar at once
He’s almost just,,, getting teary eyed seeing you and you might get confused at the looks he is giving you as you see each other
You probably won’t understand exactly what is going on with him and he simply takes your hands in his and he stares at you before embracing you in a warm hug
He wants you to feel physically that he is there for you
“Where are these all from?”
You cannot get out of a heart to heart with this man, and even if it’s all from totally normal and uneventful encounters he still thinks it’s very serious
Even if it was not traumatic like, at all, just you at some point being in pain is awful to him
Just the few times you’ve gotten hurt while on the server with him has been awful for him so to know you’ve gone through pain that’s left scars is unbearable
He doesn’t like your scars, hands down I will just say it
He hates having a constant reminder that you experience pain because he wants nothing but happiness for you
Obviously it’s delusional to think you’d never experience anything bad, he knows that, but he still wants that to be the case so bad and having to see it every time just sucks for him
That’s not to say he doesn’t think you’re still beautiful, he does, he thinks you’re amazing
But he does just wish you’d never have to go through that
Xisuma
Oh boy
His first thought, and I am sorry to admit this, would be how hot that is
He loves that type of thing, he can’t help it
This guy loves a man/woman with a story to tell, and scars to show
BUT that does not mean that the next thought isn’t slight worry
He’s been through it all, considering he is experienced with every kind of server and an admin who has had to consider all kinds of walks of life and he knows what some servers are like
That in itself has lead to him being very observant and mindful, and he also knows exactly how to handle it no matter what
He won’t ask, he will wait for you to come to him, if need be
If you do explain them, he will take it from there. Sad? He’s got just the right words to assure you that you’re both safe and that it changes nothing in his opinion of you (It does.. He finds it so hot)
Happy and uncaring? He is making the best jokes you’ve ever heard about it
There is no losing with this blessing of a man

Alright, alright. Hear me out. There is not enough boatem x reader on tumblr, so can we get a fic set in the SoB universe, like, a cute date night with all the babys? Or even like, a moment during season nine where boatem has to reassure the reader that they'll still love them even if they don't live in a big group anymore?
To make a wrong right
Tumblr media
Pairing: Boatem X Reader
Summary: In which your preparation for a date is misinterpreted.
Genre: Hurt/Comfort
Extra notes: ooooooo- MY BABIES!!!! I so missed writing for them!!! Enjoy!
Content warnings (If any): None
WC: 1.6k
Tumblr media
Season Nine was exhilarating for you.
Starting off the season with Your partners (That felt wonderful to say, even after three months in the void) and making a few small bases around Spawn that held you five together, often coming together in your home since Grian was already almost always there and so were you.
But soon, the blissfulness of spawn faded, and soon blueprints began to form.
This season? You were a God
Your wings grew large, even without the elytra, and your eyes burned so white you had to wear a white wrap around them to prevent you from hurting your lovers.
Even so, they loved you more and more, and you loved all the more.
This season you chose snowy mountains to build on. High in the clouds to create a Greek city with pantheons for each of the twelve main gods and goddesses, with the biggest one in the middle for you.
It was a project of size you had never done before, but nonetheless, you were excited. Not everyone could say they built a city in the clouds.
unfortunately, with huge projects comes huge consequences.
Like not being able to spend time with your lovers.
They and you still visited each other, but now the task was tedious. You lived far from your partners, and it hurt your heart not to see them as much as you used to, but you knew that once you finished the inside of this build, you would bring them up as soon as possible and make sure they had their fill of time together.
However...That would be a long time from now...
The Boatem crew met without their angel in Grian's base. It had been a few months since they'd seen you and Mumbo had just got back from his hibernation.
"They aren't here..." Mumbo said and slumped down
"Yeah..." Pearl hummed and looked out, worried. "Do you think they are okay?"
"I'm sure they're fine," Impulse spoke up and pulled Pearl into his lap before pressing small kisses to her face "They've been really absorbed into that base of theirs. Barely listened to me when I invited them."
There was a moment of silence before Scar spoke up and asked, "Do you think... Do you think they may not love us anymore?"
The silence thickened so much that they couldn't breathe.
"Don't say that-" Grian said, voice hoarse and thick with tears "No- Y/n is just busy. We all know how she gets when it comes to their builds and we know why."
"Agreed..." Mumbo trailed off
Still, Scar's question echoed through their heads even as they cheered up and continued with Mumbo's welcome home party.
So that night, as they were all curled into each other, attempting to sleep, Grian asked "Do... Do you really think that would be the case?"
"Could it possibly have happened because we're so far from them?" Pearl whispered
"No, It couldn't be..." Impulse trailed off. "Could it?"
The group felt the doubt sink in, and it was suffocating.
Meanwhile, You were curled up in your own bed outside, shivering underneath the thin blanket and beautiful start that seemed to be taunting you.
You were cold and alone and missing your partners so deeply.
It killed you to be so far away from them, and today Mumbo had come home, and you weren't there.
You had realized it far too late to show up for the party the boatem crew had organized, and you felt horrible for leaving your partners high and dry...
Just like you have for the last past few months...
Your heart ached at the thought of them without you, but it's not like you could complain... you did this to yourself.
Still, it broke your heart to be away from the people you love oh so much.
The reason you were rushing this build as fast as possible.
And next week, it will be worth it.
All you had to finish was the roof and the interiors, and you would be done.
And with those final touches, you could finally prepare for something you wanted to do all season.
Propose.
And you needed it to be perfect. The Pantheon needed to be finished and the rooms decorated, but soon you would marry the people who made you feel whole again.
A week later, Grian walked out of his base to find a chest filled with flowers and a letter.
Dear Grian,
Come to my Megabase at 8 pm
I have something I would love to talk to you and the rest of Boatem about.
Y/n's Harmony
He re-read the thing multiple times before he looked up at Mumbo, who had just come out of his own base a few minutes ago in horror
It seemed as if they were thinking the same thing
"ARE YOU BREAKING UP WITH US?" Pearl cried as you stepped out of their base to see the woman looking up at you
"What-?" You asked softly before the four men asked and looked desperately for Pearl until they saw her crying and froze
"Oh, my love," You cooed, kneeling down to her level and wrapping an arm around her waist to hold her close, "Whatever made you think that?"
But despite Pearl's sniffling, the silence was deafening, and You felt guilt absolutely crush your heart.
"Did-" You looked up with horror in your eyes. "Did all of you think that?"
There were hesitant nods, and tears filled your eyes
"We thought," Scar started softly, "We thought you didn't love us anymore, and we figured it was because we didn't live as close as we used to."
"Oh, My sweet Vex," You whispered to Scar before looking at her lovers and softly saying, "My sweet Symphony, There will never be any reason for me to stop loving you. Not even death will allow me to stop loving you, for you are engraved in my soul, embedded into my heart and you are my sole reason for living."
You open your free arm, and the other members come rushing in
You basked in their warmth, in their love. You smother them in small kisses and whisper apologies. You begged for their forgiveness for ever making them feel that way. For daring even to make them think you didn't love them.
Once they calmed down and moved into the living room of your home, they noticed it was fully finished.
"When did you-" Impulse asked
"Just before you all got here." You answered, "I was supposed to be more dressed up and clean, but you all came early."
"Dressed up?" Mumbo asked, "For what?"
Thats when you got embarrassed.
"Well, first off, I was supposed to serenade you as you all came in," You admitted. "Then I was going to show you the awesome dinner I made, and then I had a surprise for you all."
"A surprise?" Grian asked, and you flushed
the rings you had planned to propose with are in your room, you had planned to stuff them in the kitchen after you cleaned up but you didn't have time to...
welp-
there was no time like the present.
"Give me a second." You said and squirmed out of the cuddle pile before heading to your room and grabbing the five boxes with each of their respective boxes
Taking a deep breath, you walked out of your room and called to your lovers
"Close your eyes for me?"
There was a confused flurry of agreements, and you peeked out t see all f them had closed their eyes. You walked out with light steps and grabbed their hand as you gently placed each of their velvet boxes in them.
Red for Grian
Yellow for Impulse
Dark Blue for Pearl
Black for Mumbo
and A light copper green for Scar.
Each colored box had a ring that matched them. Their signature color and personality in a ring you had made for them.
So now, on one knee you cleared their throat and said "Open your eyes and the box."
There were soft gasps, and you gave a soft smile. "My plan fell through quite a bit, but Overall, I'm glad I still had a chance to do this. So I ask the question, Will you marry me?"
There was deafening silence before you were suddenly tackled by Impulse, who pressed kisses all over your face, beard scratching your skin as he nuzzled into you and whispered a million yeses
"I, personally, would love to marry you, Y/n." Impulse said and pressed a long slow kiss to your lips that took your breath away
With those words, it seems that it snapped whatever spell was on the rest of Boatem, and they all attacked you with hugs, Tears, and kisses with various versions of the same word
Yes
Your heart swelled as tears welled in your eyes as you kissed them back. Making sure they felt the love in your touch, you wanted to worship them like they had worshipped you early on in their relationship.
The laughs and smiles of your partners were a beautiful symphony to your ears.
You loved your partners, and you were now able to spend the rest of your days with them. How wonderful.

Baking cookies 🍄💐🍁
Tumblr media
Parings-Goodtimeswithscar x reader, Mumbo Jumbo x reader, Pearlescentmoon x reader, Grian x reader
Warnings-Flour gets in your eye at one point.
Summary-You make bake cookies with your s/o!
Tumblr media
Mumbo Jumbo
I think Mumbo would be fun to bake cookies with
You made chocolate chip cookies for the rest of Boatem
Halfway through you fling flour at Mumbo just because
He tosses some back and it starts a mini-war in your kitchen
Like a snowball fight but better
Until flour gets in your eye
He apologizes and tries to help you get it out of your eyes
Once you finish with that you go back to baking
What do you do with the flour all over the room? Nothing.
Goodtimeswithscar
So hear me out
It's season 9 and scar needs help baking cookies for his new business
And who are you to say no?
Everything is going great until you need to taste test the chorus fruit cookies
You got stuck in the tree and Scar had to figure out how to get you down
The poor man panicked when he suddenly heard you scream from the very top branch of the tree
Luckily he found ladders and got you down
[I’m writing a one-shot about this, it just isn’t done]
Pearlescentmoon
You two really wanted cookies to enjoy with hot cocoa, but you couldn’t find any in your base
You did, however, find the things to make cookies
You and Pearl got right to work on baking
Sure you could have just bought some from Scar, but what’s the fun in that?
Pearl might be the least Chaotic to make cookies with honestly
You make sugar cookies, and Pearl keeps eating the batter
And the icing
And the sprinkles
You have to stop her from eating the whole bowl of batter before you finish baking
Grian
If Pearl is the calmest one to bake cookies with the Grian is the most Chaotic
You won’t make it out of the kitchen without at least a handful of ingredients or batter on your clothing
You did your best not to burn the cookies but Grian seemed to have other plans…
Grian: We can bake these cookies at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or 4,000 degrees for 1 minute.
Y/N: No, that's not how you make cookies.
Grian: How about 4,000,000 degrees for 1 second?!?
Y/N: yOU'RE GONNA BURN THE HOUSE DOWN-
Grian: I'M GONNA HARNESS THE POWER OF THE FUCKING SUN TO MAKE COOKIES!
Y/N: NO-
Ya that
You know he won’t actually burn the house down but sometimes you wonder…

could you do a double life pearl x reader where the reader meets pearl for the first time right after Martin left her and then the reader comforts her and all? sorry if it's too vague, also any pronouns are fine :) if you don't want to write it thanks anyway!
lowkey been writing this for months, i simply don't have the motivation to finish it but here's what i have
i could probably manage a paart 2 if wanted but here we goooo
this took to long to write, sorry m8
Character: skrunkly skrimblo Pearl<3
Pronouns: They/them
TOF: full length??? unheard of
Tw/Cw: idk, attachment issues? cat named Doorknob,
character count, not including this: 4,238 HUH????????
You were always the oddball of the group, Having no set soulmate, unlike everyone lese. But oddly enough, you could see everyone else's soul strings. But that's fine, you're fine. You don't need anyone, you were perfectly happy alone, totally. No lonely nights at all, no wishing for a forever ally. Totally.
Everything was going well, you were sitting comfortably in green, on your second episode. You were out collecting wood when you heard- sniffling? Well, that's odd. Who would be crying in a dark forest in the middle of the night? You, perhaps foolishly, wandered towards the soft wails, anxiously awaiting seeing who it was as you neared.
And oh boy, were you shocked to find the Pearlescentmoon sitting against a large dark oak tree, you could only think. What happened?
Did someone hurt her? Poor thing. I mean sure, you've only seen her a few times, and spoken to her even less, but that didn't make her any less of a person. From what you knew of her, she was a hardy soul. Her string was wrapped tightly around her, in a big tight ball, almost painful looking. She couldn't see it of course, or feel it, but it was there tying her to someone. You wondered who.
You stepped off of the fallen log from which you were standing, and waved your torch forward towards the woman, successfully startling her.
"U/n! Oh my, you scared the daylights out of me. Well I guess night lights now." Pearl yelped, then chuckled at her own joke. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, and please, call me Y/n" You started softly, as to not scare her away. "I heard sniffling, and couldn't help but worry, are you alright?" The girl on the floor stiffened at this, "i- um, I'm all alone Y/n, everyone left me. I'm just so tired and I don't know what to do."
You were shocked to say the least, and a tad intrigued. What had happened to her? Questions for another time, you supposed, and blurted the first thing that came to mind. "Why don't you come back to my place? It's nothing special, but I have hot food and a comfy couch?" She looked at you for a moment, contemplating. She sat there for a while, her face contorted with shock? Disgust? Hatred? All three? Well great, now she probably thinks your a weirdo.
After what felt like an hour, (it was only 2 minutes) she said, "i'd like that very much U/-Y/n." You smiled, "Lovely, follow me." After you helped her to her feet, the two of you started to make your way towards your home. Hidden behind a waterfall, just out of sight, it would be difficult to spot with the naked eye. And made from stone, so basically impervious to fire. You stood silently listening to Pearl's 'oohs', and 'ahhs', as you both watched the waterfall parting.
Saying a quiet hello to your cat, you walked towards your kitchen area before stating, "I'm going to make steak and potatoes, you can sit on the couch, or wherever you like." Confused at the Aussie's ;ack of response, you look over to see Pearl on the floor, with your cat Doorknob. (my future irl cats's name) It was kind of sweet, seeing such a strong and usually lively woman, on the ground cooing at your kitten.
"Pearl, are you alright?" You questioned, hoping the cat wasn't being too rowdy. "Oh, yes I'm fine, your cat is awfully cute, what's it's name?" Said feline was already purring loudly, watching Tilly peer over Pearl's shoulder. "Uh- her name is- promise you won't laugh" Said brunette nodded her head insistently. "Her name is Doorknob", "D-Doorknob? Said the taller, shortly before dissolving into giggles.
"An old named her-HEY it isn't that funny!" Bit back the shorter of the two. "Foods ready anyways, come eat." Y/n said, a tad salty that Pearl was paying more attention to the cat over themself.
"Oh, I also made some extra for Tilly, i didn't know if she'd like it so I made some chicken too." Said dog was already running towards the smell of food as you put down an extra food bowl for her, next to Doorknob's.
"I honestly don't know what to say, Y/n, thank you." The blue eyed girl said, after a few moments of silence. "Pearl, your always welcome here, I enjoy your company."
"Thank you Y/n, maybe I'll have to come visit just for myself, instead of because of a problem I have."
"Well Pearl, I can't wait for that day, but for now, lets enjoy our food while it's hot."
"I'd like that"

Lovebug; C. Pearlescentmoon x Reader
My final contribution to under-appreciated hermits week! What fun this has been, I’ve truly enjoyed getting to see all of this extra content for hermits that aren’t typically written for. Know that even though under-appreciated hermits week is coming to an end, you will continue to see fanfics for underrated hermits appear on my blog <3 This is more of a drabble than anything, but I hope you all enjoy regardless.
In which Y/n discovers they’ve got it bad for the trash-lady-next-door.
———
Y/n trailed a hand up and down shelves of merchandise, fingers catching on all of the divots in the displays. They could hardly focus on one product at a time, each dragging their attention away from the previous before they could truly comprehend it. It was an odd collection of trinkets: from giant spore blossoms, clusters of dripleaves, to shiny tridents - (now that they thought about it, one of those could be useful), all cluttering the aisles of Pearl’s Trash Shop. They paused in front of the barrel marked with the forked tool, and peeked inside at the inventory.
There were only a few available, all of them enchanted with the same modifications.
Y/n selected the nearest one, pulling it out of the barrel to admire it in the light. Turning it over in their hands, they inspected the trident for dents or markings - anything to signal how it had ended up in a building shaped like a dumpster. Finding no imperfections, Y/n tilted their head. They’d expected the contents of a trash shop to be…trashier.
The sound of the door opening pulled them out of their thoughts, a new cloud of bin juice spewing out from the floor to waft around the room. Wrinkling up their nose at the particles, Y/n looked to the source of the sound.
Pearl shuffled through the doorway, swatting away any particles that intercepted her line of sight. She was dressed in a charcoal gray suit which seemed to be just a tad too large for her. The sleeves looked as though they could fall to her knuckles, and she’d done her best to bunch them up. The pants were rolled at the ankle so as to not drag on the floor, and the scarlet tie wrapped around her neck was loose.
The shop-owner spotted Y/n soon after, her whole face lighting up in a cheshire smile. She raised a hand in greeting, bee-lining for the subject of her vision.
Y/n felt themself freeze, a wave of chills suddenly wracking their body. Their heart pounded loudly in their chest, picking up its pace the closer Pearl got. They swallowed their nerves and smiled back at her.
“Y/n! Good to see ya’! Anything I can help you with?”
Her delivery was casual, juxtaposing the very serious-looking ensemble she'd worn today.Y/n noted that the scarlet tie she wore was patterned with little crescent moons. They liked it.
“I’m all good!” they answered, perhaps a little too quickly. Feeling very faint, Y/n leaned against a nearby wall. They tried to keep their posture relaxed, not wanting to alarm Pearl to their sudden fatigue. Was it always this hot in here?
“Well, I see you’ve picked up a trident! They're pretty nifty, yeah?”
Pearl gestured to the tool that Y/n hadn’t realized they were still holding. Glancing down at the shimmering thing, Y/n tried to remember why they’d picked it up in the first place. Their mind was clouded with Pearl, they could hardly think back to moments prior when they were alone.
“Oh. Yes, very nifty.” They agreed, mostly to keep the conversation flowing without any questioning from Pearl. The woman in question tilted her head at them, her smile devolving into a smirk.
“You feelin’ alright there?” She asked, though Y/n could detect a hint of mischief in her tone, as if she already knew the answer. The brunette took a step closer, laying a hand on Y/n shoulder.
All of their body head rushed to the spot, their skin alight with nerves. Y/n blinked back at Pearl, stuttering over their words.
“Y-yeah. Just feeling a little sick. Got some kind of bug I think.”
Pearl quirked an eyebrow at them, but didn’t argue. Rather, she squeezed their shoulder and nodded her head.
“Maybe you oughta get home and rest, you’re looking a little flushed.” she concluded, to which Y/n nodded rapidly.
They dropped the trident back into the barrel from whence it came, pulling away from Pearl’s touch. They ignored the way their skin buzzed where she'd been brushing against it, longing to be within arms reach once more.
“You’re right! I’ll be on my way, see you around!”
They slid past her with as reassuring a smile as they could muster, striding through green bin juice particles and out of the front doors. Pearl could be heard shouting her goodbyes, but Y/n didn’t stick around to wave back.
They strode out of the shop with wide eyes and a racing heart. They sure had a bug alright. The love-bug.

A Different Perspective
Drabble Pearl x reader Contains: No Implied Relationship ------------------------------
Block after block had been placed. It had taken you hours to gather the resources, then hours to place them all.
Something just doesn't seem quite right with your build. You put your finger on it, no matter how many times you walk or fly around you just can't figure it out.
"Hey Y/n" Pearl calls from behind you. "Hey Pearl." You answer, hearing her walk up beside you.
"The base is looking good." She states. "Thanks, it's a shame I can't figure out what's wrong with it though." Pearl hums.
"Do you need a hand?" You look over at her. She has a small smile on her face, one that says that she genuinely wants to help.
"If you don't mind." "I don't mind." She says. The two of you do a couple laps around your base, still seemingly unable to work it out.
"I found it!" Pearl exclaims from the other side of the building. You move to where she is.
"What is it?" You ask, still unsure even though she's identified something is wrong with this side of the building. "Your windows are the wrong coloured glass. You have light grey everywhere else and just grey here."
Now she's pointed it out it's very obvious. How could you miss something like that?
"Thank you for spotting that, it would have taken me hours." You laugh. "It's alright, I'm always glad to be of help." Pearl grins.
"Well, I guess I better fix my windows." You scratch the back of your neck lightly. Pearl nods. "I better go and start mining, I've been putting it off all day." "I won't keep you from it any longer." Pearl laughs
"I'll see you later then." "I'll see you later." You smile. She responds with a quick wave before shooting off into the sky. As you go inside to grab the glass you make sure to leave yourself a little note to leave something in return for Pearl helping you out.

Living on the Hermitcraft server was an… interesting experience.
More often than not, you were stepping out of your base to find your friends in the crux of some crazy scheme, stalking other players while disguised as trees, running about willy-nilly on the hunt for a dragon egg, or spawning in thousands of boats to make the lag caused by the Redstone farms look like child’s play.
You had gotten used to the chaos, even grown to appreciate it during both of the wars that Grian had started, but it was still a shock for you to wake up to find the entire server blanketed in a thick sheet of sparkling snow.
Your breath clouded in the chilled air as you walked along one of the Boatem pathways, your hands tucked tightly into the pockets of the thick winter jacket you had scrounged up from the deepest parts of your storage system. Frost crunched under your boots with every step, the shimmering green-blue of the mending enchantment shining through even the ice that had built up over the few minutes you had been out and about.
It was like the entire server had been overtaken by a tundra biome, the snow swallowing up the sounds of the world and leaving only the sound of wind. It seemed like there was nothing around for hundreds of blocks, as you stared out across the server. For a moment, you felt like you were the only person in the world.
That illusion was shattered as soon as you glanced to the side to see Cleo’s grinning face.
You yelped, jumping almost two blocks into the air as the redhead cackled, patchwork face twisting into a brilliant grin full of mirth and light.
“C-Cleo!” you gasped, resting your hand on the pommel of your netherite sword. “You can’t just scare me like that!”
“But it was funny!” she protested as soon as she got her laughter under control, still grinning like the absolute madwoman she was.
You puffed your cheeks out in a pout, crossing your arms over your chest with a dramatic huff. “Meanie.”
You paused.
“By the way, where is everyone? You’re the only other player I’ve seen since I woke up this morning.”
Cleo’s eyes lit up, and the undead woman excitedly slung an arm over your shoulder. “You didn’t see the message on your comm? Well, no, obviously, but Xisuma sent one out earlier. So, you know how we normally have a Christmas district? Well, since we don’t have any districts this year, we’re all getting together to make the entire server holiday-themed.”
You brightened, a shy smile tugging at the corners of your lips. “Oh? That sounds cool!”
Cleo laughed once more, green eyes glinting merrily in the sunlight. “I know, right? The meeting’s starting in about an hour, so we should probably get going.”
You ducked out of her grip, giggling at her faux-wounded expression, and summoned your rockets from your inventory, shifting your coat to allow your elytra to extend fully. You had always found them pretty, the iridescent membrane sparkling all colors of the rainbow as soon as the light hit them.
Shooting a short wave to Cleo, you launched off the ground with a whizz of a rocket, carving an arc as you flew through the cloudless blue sky. Behind you, you could faintly hear the sound of the other player following your path over the sound of wind rushing through your ears, and you huffed to yourself as she playfully darted underneath you.
Dipping and weaving like dragonflies, it wasn’t long before the pair of you caught sight of the spawn point where everyone was supposed to gather. Already, you could make out the figures of the other server members swarming the area, the height at which you were flying making them appear as though they were as big as ants.
You smirked. Better give them a show.
Folding your elytra completely, you allowed yourself to dip into a free-fall, air shrieking past your ears and dragging at your clothes. You laughed, the sound being thrown back at you as you tumbled through the air, the giddy feeling that always came with flight bubbling up into your chest.
The ground rose to meet you, and before you could splatter all over the ground, you banked out of your dive, landing with a solid ‘thud’ right behind Mumbo Jumbo, successfully scaring the ever-living daylights out of the tall Brit.
“What’s up, potato boy?”
“Oh my goodness!” he cried, pressing a hand to his chest in a manner that reminded you of a genteel Victorian woman. Cleo landed behind you, grinning wryly as she moved to pat the man on the shoulder.
“Sorry about that Mumbo,” she said, completely not sorry. “Managed to spook them earlier, and you know what they say! ‘What goes around, comes around’.”
Mumbo blinked, fearful features morphing into bewilderment. “What? I don’t- I don’t think that’s how that works-”
The spud was cut off by the sudden appearance of another Hermit, their crunching footsteps approaching from behind you.
“What’s going on over here?”
Immediately, you felt heat rush to your cheeks, and you scowled at the equally teasing looks both Cleo and Mumbo shot at you. Steeling yourself, you turned yourself around to see Scar approaching, a confused but happy grin affixed to his face.
The usual maroon suit he wore had been discarded, replaced by a thick overcoat that swirled around his feet as he walked, collecting a thin layer of snow. A plush olive green scarf was clumsily tied around his neck, and your fingers twitched as you repressed the urge to fix it for him. When his eyes landed and locked on yours, you felt like you had been punched in the gut, all of the air whooshing from you in one heavy breath.
You recognized this feeling.
The way your heart seemed to stutter and come to a screeching halt in your rib cage, the way you felt as though you had contracted altitude sickness, light-headed and struggling to breathe, and how your hands seemed so much sweatier than usual. (It was kind of gross, to be honest)
You had a crush on GoodTimesWithScar.
“O-oh, hey! I wasn’t sure if you were coming or not!”
Scar’s words broke you out of your daze, and, as you shook your head subtly to clear your thoughts, you smiled at him, trying not to let any of your embarrassment show.
Judging by Cleo’s stifled giggle, you didn’t think you were a hundred percent successful.
“I didn’t see Xisuma’s message, but, ah- Cleo here rounded me up quickly enough to get over here on- on time,” you explained, fiddling with the zipper of your coat nervously. Gods above, it was so annoying how much Scar’s mere presence affected you, sending butterflies fluttering through your stomach and tying your tongue into knots.
Scar grinned, that same damn grin that lit up his entire face and made it something beautiful, ethereal, almost.
“That’s amazin’! Thanks, Cleo! I don’t know what I’d do if my best friend weren’t here!”
Ah. There it was.
You had a crush on GoodTimesWithScar, but it could never be anything more than a crush because the man was your best friend. Your partner-in-crime. Someone who you could trust with all of your deepest, darkest secrets.
But not this one. Never this one.
You chuckled, trying not to let the pain you felt show. “Right.”
Any further attempt at a conversation was quickly doused by Xisuma’s sudden appearance, the Hermitcraft admin teleporting in front of everyone in an explosion of rioting green and purple code.
“Alright everyone,” he started, bringing his two gloved hands together with a clap. “Let’s get started with this thing, yeah?”
As you listened to the British man’s spiel, it turned out that everyone had gathered together in order to enlist in the ‘Christmas-ification’ (as Grian so eloquently put it) of the server. What impressed you the most about the entire endeavor, however, was just how much of a tactical operation it was.
Xisuma had organized the effort in such a way that different teams of Hermits would be decorating different areas of the map. Unsurprisingly, you found yourself grouped with the rest of the Boatem members (much to everyone’s delight), tasked with transforming the village into a winter wonderland.
As Scar wrapped an arm around your shoulder, brown hair bouncing up and down as he wiggled excitedly, you wondered if the mischievous gleam in your fellow server member’s eyes was a trick of the light.
… Why did you feel an impending sense of doom?
Tumblr media
It was almost absurd how many materials the Hermits hoarded, the entire center of Boatem village dotted with chest monsters and spare materials just lying about. Not that you were exempt from the sentiment, though, as you produced yet another shulker box from your inventory filled with spruce leaves and ribbon.
The holiday beautification project was well-underway, and, as you looked over Boatem village, observing your friends as they built beautiful Christmas trees and strung lights all across their builds, you toyed with the thought that maybe, perhaps you all were a bit too invested in this.
The mountain megabase that was still under construction was dotted with pine trees, glittering with glass ornaments and golden tinsel. The gaping maw of the cave that led to Grian’s alleyway base had been modified to include an aurora borealis in the stained glass ceiling, the light from the end rods making the colors shift and dance like the real thing.
On the other side of the village, Grian was helping Scar out with stringing wreaths and ribbons all over his starter base, the avian insisting on outfitting all of his bees with little Santa hats.
It was a miracle the blonde gremlin didn’t become a walking pincushion, what with how many times he could’ve been stung.
“Hey, can someone help me over here?”
You perked up at the sound of Mumbo’s voice, dropping the tinsel you were carefully wrapping around a tree to trot over towards the sound of his voice- coming from in front of the façade of one of the shops Grian had built as part of his base. The tall dark-haired man was perilously perched on a wobbling tower of scaffolding, something that you couldn’t make out held in his hands.
Instinctively, you were moving to hold the stack steady so that the spud didn’t slip, him shooting you a thankful glance for your efforts. You watched as he strung the bundle he was holding up, directly over the door frame. After squinting your eyes for a bit, you suddenly realized what it was he was putting up- mistletoe.
“Does this mean I have to kiss you now?” you asked, only half-joking as Mumbo clambered back down from his place in the skies. The Brit shrugged, dusting off his hands with a satisfied hum.
“If you think you should, I guess. If I were you, though, I might want to save that kiss for someone else,” he said, a teasing edge to his voice that left no questions about who he was speaking of.
“Gods, does everyone know about that?” you said, face flaming at Mumbo’s cheeky grin. He shrugged again.
“Pretty much.”
You groaned, allowing your head to ‘thunk’ into the mustached man’s chest, and he patted your back comfortingly.
“... Why don’t you just confess?”
You blinked your eyes, which had previously been screwed up in righteous pain, open, staring up at Mumbo with a confused look. “Confess? Mumbo, do you know what would happen if I did that? Hels below, that would ruin everything. I’d much rather stay friends than say something and torch our relationship.”
Mumbo furrowed his eyebrows. “But that wouldn’t ruin anything?”
You pulled away, scrubbing at your face in exasperation. “You don’t know that. I’d rather not take the risk, thankyouverymuch.”
Hearing Impulse’s shout in the distance, you reached over to tug at Mumbo’s hand.
“C’mon, let’s-let’s just go.”
The rest of the group had huddled up at the center of the village, just a little bit off to the side of the Boatem hole. As you approached, Mumbo in tow, your eyes caught on the dramatic gestures Grian was making, red-green-blue wings puffing up from the force of his excitement. Smiling amusedly, you didn’t notice Scar’s eyes flicker over to land on where you were still holding the taller man’s hand, usually bright eyes dimming as his smile became strained.
“There you guys are!” Impulse exclaimed, obviously relieved to have a reprieve from Grian’s emphatic ramblings.
“There you guys are!” Impulse exclaimed, obviously relieved to have a reprieve from Grian’s emphatic ramblings.
You waved cheerfully, not-do-discreetly pushing Mumbo towards where the avian was standing. At his bewildered stare, you pinned him with a look that hopefully said ‘calm your bestie down’.
“What’s up?” you said questioningly, eyes flickering between everyone who had gathered together. Impulse grinned, propping his hands up on his hips.
“Christmas cheer, that’s what!”
The group broke out into groans at the corny joke, excluding Scar, who giggled like it was the funniest thing he had ever heard. Your face softened at the sound, watching him fondly out of the corner of your eye as he doubled over with laughter. Silly.
“No, seriously- we’ve all been working hard, so I was going to ask if everyone maybe wanted to take a break?”
The response was a resounding ‘yes’, all of you tired and sore from the sheer amount of decorating you had been doing, deciding to make your way over to Impulse’s base for a quick rest. Even your hands, as calloused from building and mining as they were, were tingly and chafing. At this point you were tempted to pull off your gloves and just bury them in a nearby snowbank to relieve the stinging.
Scar must’ve noticed your discomfort, your mouth pressed into a hard line, because soon enough he was dropping back from the rest of your group to walk beside you, nudging you slightly with an arm.
“Are you okay?” he murmured, expression open and concerned as he searched your gaze worriedly.
You huffed slightly, offering him a small smile. “I’m fine, just scratched my hands up a little.”
Scar frowned, the expression reminding you hauntingly of a sad puppy, and grabbed for one, holding it gently between his own. You flustered at the contact, averting your eyes with a slight cough and praying that he didn’t notice how stiff you had suddenly become.
“Well, when we get inside we can patch you up, alright?”
You nodded, tucking the shy smile that was spreading across your face into the warm collar of your jacket. Gods damn it Scar, why do you have to be so cute?
However, as you reached the main door to Impulse’s base, you realized that you had one glaring issue: You and Scar were heading directly towards the door, where somebody had hung another bunch of mistletoe. The green sprigs innocently swayed in the breeze, almost as if it was taunting you with its very presence.
Your eyes darted towards the brunette at your side. The last thing you wanted to do was kiss him. What if you made everything weird? What if he didn’t like it? What if he realized that you had a crush on him and didn’t want to speak to you anymore?
Yeah, you were not going to risk it.
… So how, exactly, were you going to deal with this?
You glanced towards your feet, thinking, and, after a moment, it was like a lightbulb had gone off above your head. Surreptitiously, you wiggled your foot out of one of your boots until the garment was barely on, your ankle bent at an awkward position to account for the sudden looseness. Then, in what could be argued to be the most graceful move in all of Hermitcraft history, you tripped, sending your shoe flying.
Scar made a sound somewhere between a bicycle horn and the yelp of a kicked puppy, practically teleporting over to where you were sprawled across the ground.
“I’m okay, I’m okay,” you said, answering the unasked question in his eyes. “Just- go ahead without me. I need to get my boot.”
“Are you sure?” Scar queried, worrying his lip between his teeth. You tried not to stare at his mouth for too long.
“Yeah, I won’t be far behind.”
Mission success!
You entered Impulse’s base a few minutes later (your boot safely secured back on your person) only for Scar to drag you to one of the chairs, the material surprisingly comfortable despite the industrial theming. As the brunette fussed over your injuries, you glanced up to catch Pearl’s exasperated look towards you, scrunching your face up in confusion. Before you could ask her what her problem was, however, you were interrupted by Impulse.
“Scar, I think I have some bandages and health pots somewhere in storage if you want to go get those.”
“Yes! Those would be amazin’!” the other player breathed, a relieved look on his face as he hurried through the door that Impulse had gestured to. You paused as you watched him leave, suspicion suddenly crackling through your body as though you had been struck by lightning.
Whipping your head around, you catalogued every entrance and doorway in the vicinity, horror dawning on your expression. You made eye contact with the rest of the group, face paling as you recognized the self-satisfied expressions painted across their features.
They had hung mistletoe from. Every. Single. One.
Was this what true betrayal felt like?
The next few minutes were spent avoiding getting caught under any of the doorways with Scar in a grand maneuver that would’ve made even the greatest spy proud. Whether it was by ‘conveniently’ forgetting something in the other room, or furtively pulling up next to another one of your friends to kiss them instead (completely missing the injured flash in Scar’s eyes), you were quite proud with how well you had been able to keep yourself from being put into an awkward situation with the man who was only supposed to be your best friend.
Naturally, you couldn’t stay winning forever.
“Alright gang,” Grian chirped, a strained smile on his face as he attempted to hide the frustration he was sure that everyone else was feeling. How the hell had you managed to slip out of their trap for so long? “I think it’s time to head back out.”
Gathering up your things, you filed out with the rest of the group, finally allowing yourself to relax as you exited the base. After this, you wouldn’t have to worry about having to kiss Scar. As nice as it would be, you would basically be taking advantage of him. You felt sick even thinking about it- you never wanted to abuse his trust like that. Ever.
However, as you reached the doorway, walking a few paces behind Scar, you weren’t counting on Pearl’s annoyance with you to bubble over. The two of you had been avoiding your feelings- mutual feelings- for each other for too long, in her opinion. It was time to end this.
For that second time that day, you stumbled, a well-timed push sending you tripping over your own feet and into Scar’s arms. You went shock-still in his embrace, even as the brunette’s hands encircled your waist to keep you from tumbling over. Dazed, you blinked up at him, only to find his gaze already on you, something so soft in their olivine depths that it sent heat scorching through your cheeks.
Your eyes were glued to his face, even as he glanced up, a shy, lopsided grin working its way across his cheeks.
“Look,” he said, voice so low it was almost a whisper. “We’re under the mistletoe.”
And, as your gaze flickered up to follow his, you realized that he was right.
Well, shit.
You were about to pull away, panic settling over your features as it suddenly occurred to you that this was it, this was the end of your friendship, when he tightened his grip on you, something that almost looked like desperation flitting over his features.
“Please,” he said, a beseeching tone in his voice that sent your racing thoughts screeching to a halt. “Please kiss me.”
You never wanted to abuse his trust, but who were you to deny him when he asked so nicely?
As you pushed up, gently pressing your lips against his in a sweet, slow moment, you were deaf to the elated cries of your friends.
Pearl slumped against the door.
“About time you lovebirds stopped being idiots.”
