BIRDCAGE
xe/xem
Birdcage. Both the bird and the cage it's trapped in, the bars and the life within. Likes to think of xemself as a poet, perhaps an amateur, but isn’t there a beauty in that too? Dabbles in other things as well. Friendly, likes to give light hearted advice that xe may not really follow xemself, having studied a fair amount of the psychology and workings of the strange world they all live in and came from. Waiting for a key, in something or someone. Could perhaps be seen as a romantic in this sense, but more seems rather melancholy around the topic. Here with Otamatone, mostly, though does like the idea of competing like this, despite not wishing to win. Can make multiple different bird sounds.
likes: writing and reading, mostly the former with books being somewhat hard to find here. helping people. dislikes: feeling trapped.
power: one can only imagine that a lock would open something, right?
fav colour: dark red, with light purple as an honourable mention.
orientation and gender: agender, otherwise unlabelled. possibly also some xenogenders.
relationships: recently rekindled a friendship with otamatone, after not seeing each other for a fair while. has had some ex partners over the years.

me after making a character (villain) that does so many bad things but as deliberate choices that conflict with their morals which is still bad regardless of guilt they may feel. and at the same time she's not "intrinsically evil," nor do they enjoy it in any way. and also they come across neurodivergent, and i don't want THOSE traits to be demonised. and they do still have lines they won't cross which is interesting compared to other characters but they are very very awful still and state this themself: hm i think. i think i did a little more nuance than i needed to here. i'm sure i won't mess that up and people will read things as intended and in good faith :)
#yeah this is about pip. PLUS SIDE she's fun. she's evil she's sad they're probably autistic but that's statistically likely in my writing so#basically i want her actions and choices and greed to be seen as bad#but not like her lack of expression or interest in/love of magic and studying it etc#(a risk given it's half of her motive that they're willing to do bad things to reach)#like she's TECHNICALLY morally grey internally but a villain in actions#i just don't want the wrong parts to be demonised/seem like i'm demonising them#and definitely don't want her read as like “misunderstood uwu” no she's awful <3#but that's her CHOICE not her NATURE#idk it's probably fine i'm just always prepared for the worst mentally#been having a crisis over phosphor's cast size too because the post going around with object show pet peeves#but it's. like phosphor doesn't work the same as a normal object show. voting plot or format wise.#so idk how it applies.#idk this became more venty than intended. i'm just a little stressed. it's been so long since i've shared work like i'm about to#and phosphor has so much room for error compared to anything i've made before#don't worry about this i'm just mentally ill <3 haha#like if people really end up hating it i'll just. idk. stop doing it i guess.#my best is all i can do#don't get me started on whether killing certain characters will get people upset/saying it's "burying your (insert group here)#(they're all queer if anyone tries to say gays specifically because a character has a relationship i'll just self destruct)#that's not foreshadowing half the deaths are still undecided. mainly because of this worry LOL#okay i should shut up now#hobbies include not making posts ever (haven't even been on tumblr much the past week)#and then posting paragraphs of tags and then dipping again. uh if people read this hope you're doing well. sorry <3#i can only be concise in fictional writing not rambles#also note that this is like REALLY POORLY EXPLAINED#but anyway

Hey! Any advice for a beginner to charm casting? I've been wanting to try for years, but can't seem to figure out what charms and whatnots I want to use to cover as much as possible, or how to go about figuring out how to read them. Thanks!
I'm 23k words into a full-sized book on charm casting (it'll have illustrations and diagrams and everything!), which I hope will be done in maybe 2 months or so. So... I'm sure people will figure out how to pirate that in no time, lol. Which is to say I'm not telling you that you have to pay me for info, I know it will be made available for free by others.
But here's some copy/paste stuff for you related to your question. It's still rough draft.
Charm casting is very good at describing the relationships between things, and how things exist in orientation to each other. You take the most relevant aspects to your question (say, charms representing Friend, Betrayal, Loyalty, and Future) and drop them on your casting surface. Your job as the reader is then to decide where those invisible red threads lie that connect the pieces. Is your friend closely connected to loyalty? And yet, does betrayal stand in lockstep with their future? Determining how these charms connect to each other will be like constructing your evidence board (although in the next section we will see that we really shouldn’t be taking any divination as ‘evidence’). Any time you’d like to know how things exist in relation to each other, charm casting can help you. This also makes charm casting especially well suited to questions of timing, which many other systems struggle with. After all, time is relative; and this is a system that shows relation. Besides describing relationships between things, charm casting is also a powerful system to show energy and movement. Although the reading is performed on charms lying still on a flat surface, it’s still possible to interpret movement, direction, focus, and trajectory. This is how we can look at a stationary reading and say, “you are rapidly moving towards a financial blessing, but your career progress is stagnant and barely moving at all.” [...]
You may have as many charm sets as you like. They may be as large or small as you like, containing hundreds of pieces – or just one or two. Your charm sets can be themed, random, sentimental, or chaotic. They can be assembled from junk, or be carefully cultivated over years. A handful of dried beans or rice can serve remarkably well for casting, although at that point it’s less ‘charm’ casting and moreso just legume tossing. [...]
It’s possible for some objects to ‘point’ in a certain direction, or to appear upside-down or flipped over, but this is not true of all objects. Whether or not an object has these features can largely define how it’s able to be used in a reading. An opaque marble does not have direction or reversibility. You can’t tell which way it’s pointed because it does not have defining features that ‘point’ in any particular direction. It doesn’t appear to have a nose or a tail. It can’t be reversed because it doesn’t have a front or a back; it’s a sphere. A matchstick has direction. The red phosphor matchhead is only on one end, and it can ‘point’ in one direction or another. But a matchstick does not have reversibility; you can’t tell if it’s lying on it’s belly or its back. A coin with the profile of a face has both direction and reversibility. Because the face is in profile, we can see if it’s looking in a certain direction, or rotated upside-down. Because the coin has a different symbol on the back, you can tell if it’s lying face-up or face-down. A six-sided die has reversibility, but not direction. You can tell if it’s lying on one side versus any other side, and these sides may all have special meanings which make its reversibility relevant. But it doesn’t have a nose or a tail that can indicate it’s pointed in a certain direction. In my experience, direction is a more important quality than reversibility. Direction can imply a lot of movement and it’s a very intuitive way to form connections within a reading. If a coin signifies a person, and the face of the coin is pointed right at another marker, that connection is easy to read. Reversals – or, objects clearly lying face-down – can tend to mean things like blocked energy, lack of interest, reduction in magnitude, and so forth. However, these qualities can also be demonstrated by spacing on the board (a charm much further away may be considered to have less ‘gravity’ or pull), by proximity to other charms (such as a charm meaning ‘blockages’ falls nearby), and through other methods which will be discussed in-depth later on. Therefore, if you’re trying to cultivate a nice set of charms, I encourage you to look for objects that have inherent direction. This direction is hard to make up for if it’s lacking, but reversibility is easier to make up for. [...]
Assigning meaning to charms is an intuitive and creative process. There is no right way to assign meaning to charms, and no right way for charms to hold meaning – but you may find that the process is more like discovery rather than assigning roles. I find the best way to discover and assign meanings to charms is to start them off with your first idea, practice reading with them, and see how that initial meaning does or does not fit your needs. Charms may seem to lend themselves to certain meanings, but never seem to fulfill a meaning you’ve assigned to it. I find the process works better if you don’t try to pigeonhole a charm into a role that doesn’t seem suited for it. [...} When developing charm sets, it’s helpful to build them around the kinds of topics you want to read on. If you wanted to do a lot of money and prosperity readings, you might develop a set that has different charms to represent money, wealth, abundance, debt, investments, assets, expenses, banks, and businesses. Conversely if you want to read on your own spirituality, you may have charms that represent gods, moral ideals, correct practices, teachers, and religious pitfalls. [...]
The general idea is that you find charms which correspond to something and therefore represent that same thing in the reading. A coin might correspond with money, a steel nail might correspond with binding and building, a vitamin tablet might represent health. Witches who have a grasp on sympathetic magic will immediately see why this is done. But technically, finding charms that organically correspond with their assigned meanings is not strictly necessary. You can get wickedly creative with assembling sets from things you have on hand. A change jar and fingernail polishes or permanent markers can make a wide variety of tokens, each representing anything you please. Simplified sigils or symbols can be used, or just blotches of color, to differentiate the tokens between each other.

Hi, I know you really like Shouto, but I am wondering if you think his story and him overall is objectively well written, and where would you put him among not just MHA characters but compared it to general fiction, writing wise, and development wise. I personally think there could be things that make his development and personality more prominent and make his character stand out more, nevertheless I still think he is above average when I read the story again and again and see the nuances, tiny but important details. It is sad to see when it's MHA, people assume the character is less valuable in every way no matter what manga/show you are comparing it to.
I think people often confuse things like power, fight feats, art panels, fandom appeal, popularity when they think about "well-written". For example, many people think Mirko is "well-written", when she's more well-designed and has flashy fight moments. Several, more underrated female characters are better written than her.
When I think about "well-written", I think about these things:
What is the overall narrative role of the character in the story?
How well and consistently are the character's themes represented throughout the story and how do they connect to the "main plot"?
Does the character have an arc? How is the arc progressed?
Does the character have well developed relationships and dynamics with others?
Does the character get meaningful conflicts and challenges to his/her worldview and grow from these?
So if you translate this to Shouto:
Shouto is a "bridge" character. Because of his dual design, he connects well the different worlds / ideas in the story. He's got the genetic lottery / strong potential like Bakugou, but he's also an abuse victim like Izuku. His personal history and family drama connects the world of pro heroes to UA Class A. He's foiling with Iida on family legacy. He represents change, healing and 2nd chances. The Todoroki family is a microcosm of what is happening in the wider hero society and Shouto is the protagonist of the story, perfectly placed to be able to understand the pov of the heroes and of the family villain, Toya.
In the overall plot, the Todoroki plot becomes prominent in the SF arc and Shouto's part is "frontloaded". We learn his backstory before we know much about Endeavor or Dabi. However, even if his biggest moments come early, Shouto keeps growing. His quirk growth is tied to his emotional healing. Every time he takes a step towards overcoming trauma, he "unlocks" something new in his quirk. Taking steps towards his different family members, peaks in Phosphor which is narratively a perfect culmination of his quirk and journey. But his other themes - figuring out who he wants to be, claiming a part of All Might's legacy, the importance of being authentic, etc. also get important beats throughout the story.
Shouto's arc is foremost a healing journey. It's about overcoming / letting go of his well-justified negative emotions and pour his energy into building bridges with his family and making friends. The two worlds interplay well. The friends Shouto makes remain relevant in saving his family (Bakugou saving Natsuo, Iida taking him to Gunga, etc.), but the steps he takes towards his family also benefit his friends (most notably with Bakugou and Deku interning with Endeavor and learning things from him). I also like that his arc is not linear. He takes steps back (provisional license, JTA), but he keeps growing from his mistakes / failures. His growth as a hero is interwoven with his growth as a person, a son, a brother, a friend.
Shouto has actually a really wide circle of important and meaningful interactions. He has a distinct dynamic with every member of his family. We know more about the Todorokis than any other character's family and Endeavor and Dabi are also well-developed characters. He's most prominent friends are important Class A members (Deku, Bakugou, Iida), and he has good moments with a number of others, notably, Momo, Sero and Kirishima. He's the bridge character between UA and Shiketsu (Inasa). He's got a couple of good scenes with All Might. So he is well built into the core of the story, with diverse and interesting interactions and dynamics.
Shouto is challenged a lot. He is allowed to be wrong, fail, learn, get up and try again, which is crucial for a well-written character. His view of his own quirk and overall goal is challenged by Izuku. His confrontation with Bakugou brings out his flaw of relative aimlessness compared to his main rival. His repeated confrontations with his father force him to learn to see Endeavor as a complex human being and also to try to sift through the bits of his inheritance he wants to keep. The Stain fight gives him an early reality check on relying too much on his quirk. His confrontation with Inasa is crucial in understanding that to become a hero, he needs to process his trauma. The first family dinner allows him to connect later with Natsuo. Tetsu pushes him into a corner from which he learns flashfire and understands why he wants to be strong (to be reassuring). Failing to win his fight make him go for a 2nd internship with Endeavor and stand up for himself and lay down clear boundaries. His repeated confrontations with Touya give him the perspective of wanting to save his family, which helps him unlock his full power in Phosphor.
Overall, I think Shouto is one of the best and most consistently written characters in the manga. I think he's a bit underrated, because a lot of people think of redemption arcs when they think of a well-written character. But all kinds of arcs can be well-written and I feel like Shouto's is quite unique in this kind of medium with how much attention it's given and how well it ties in with his themes.
I mean people may not connect with his character more because he's relatively quiet, plain in tastes, doesn't get the flashiest fights, etc.
I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but his story is objectively a well-rounded part of the manga, and I think Shouto's endgame is one of the best parts of the final arc, where all previous threads came together quite satisfyingly, without it needing a lot of explanations.
There are of course parts where Shouto, because in the end he's not the MC, got shoved off to the side, where I expected more. This came mostly in the post-Dabi reveal era, where I think if Hori wasn't in a hurry to cut the story short, we would have had a proper fall-out for Shouto for the scandal, along the lines of what Bakugou got post-Kamino. A kind of emotional peak / release. But post-war, Hori dropped the ball on everyone, I think including Deku (despite having his solo arc).
Now, I don't read a lot of manga, so I can't really judge that well, but I think Shouto is one of the best-written characters of his own kind. If you think wider literature - I mean Horikoshi's writing is decently entertaining and his art is very pleasing, but it's not high literature. I think he excels in character design and in playing with the tropes of shonen. But when he tries to tackle more complex issues, those tend to fall flat. Actually, I think the Todoroki plot is one of the few places, where he does a fairly good job of showing nuances of abuse, trauma, victim responses, but I think it's better written in Acts 1 and 2 than in Act 3.

Israel: White Phosphorus Used in Gaza, Lebanon (Human Rights Watch)

Israel’s use of white phosphorus in military operations in Gaza and Lebanon puts civilians at risk of serious and long-term injuries, Human Rights Watch said today in releasing a question and answer document on white phosphorus. Human Rights Watch verified videos taken in Lebanon and Gaza on October 10 and 11, 2023, respectively, showing multiple airbursts of artillery-fired white phosphorus over the Gaza City port and two rural locations along the Israel-Lebanon border, and interviewed two people who described an attack in Gaza.
White phosphorus, which can be used either for marking, signaling, and obscuring, or as a weapon to set fires that burn people and objects, has a significant incendiary effect that can severely burn people and set structures, fields, and other civilian objects in the vicinity on fire. The use of white phosphorus in Gaza, one of the most densely populated areas in the world, magnifies the risk to civilians and violates the international humanitarian law prohibition on putting civilians at unnecessary risk.
“Any time that white phosphorus is used in crowded civilian areas, it poses a high risk of excruciating burns and lifelong suffering,” said Lama Fakih, Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “White phosphorous is unlawfully indiscriminate when airburst in populated urban areas, where it can burn down houses and cause egregious harm to civilians.”

Y’all like Monsters? I hope you do because that’s what I did this week! 8D So I have a comic I’ve been writing for a bit called “Monster” (which I will put a link to as a comment in the notes because Tumblr is weird about links to things...) and one of the things I like to do is take characters from things I like and turn them into well, monsters! Since I’ve been on an Invader Zim kick for a while I thought it was about time to do some for them! I even did a process video for it!
youtube
I ALSO wrote some neat little dossiers for each one past the “keep reading” :D hope you all enjoy them!
Vorare-Schism (Zim)
Size Rating: Titan (more than 5 stories tall)
Danger Rating: Apocalyptic (even a momentary manifestation of this monster causes natural disaster level damage)
Minions: yes
Nest: unknown
Vocalizations: Makes sounds like distorted or corrupted audio; resembles laughing, crying, or screaming. Accompanied by additional sounds similar to recordings of "space sounds".
Behavior: Roaming/Aggressive
When manifested this creature seeks to consume all matter in its path, appearing to prefer organic matter and man-made structures/objects. It seizes its targets with mechanical-like tentacles and "feeds" them to the mouth like opening in its central mass. It has been reported by magical girls who have survived an encounter with this creature that they find it difficult to look away from the "mouth" and that they experience a feeling of being "drawn in". These reports correspond with those that human and animal victims who make eye contact with the creature do not move or offer up any kind of resistance to it. Once enough matter has been consumed it "regurgitates" it in the form of a much smaller minion, bearing a strong resemblance to the "body" structure attached to it's "head". These minions are tethered to the main creature via cable like tendrils. Their main purpose seems to be to disable or kill anything not dominated by their master. This creature has been seen to move in a somewhat erratic direction as though searching for something. The only deviation from this behavior is when it is confronted by the creature labeled Tinnebriel, whereupon the two will fight until Vorare-Schism eventually kills it after which it will disappear, presumably back to its nest. It is noted that no matter how many times Vorare-Schism has killed Tinnebriel it does not consume it, whether it chooses not to or physically can't is unknown. Magical girls are advised to avoid confronting this creature directly and focus on rescuing civilians. They are also strongly advised not to try to follow it back to its nest as none who have attempted to do so have survived.
Solitaria (Gaz)
Size Rating: Large (between one and two stories in height)
Danger Rating: Lethal
Minions: none
Nest: yes
Vocalizations: none. However, is accompanied by varying volumes of static.
Behavior: Territorial/Provoking
This creature has set up a nest in the remnants of a mall. The reality-warping effects of its nest have recreated the location as fully functioning, with bright neon colors and twisted geometry. Solitaria does not leave its nest and seems to spend most of it's time within it toying with electronics or interacting with the attractions it has created. It has been observed that the substance constantly flowing from its smaller more animal-like skull bears a visual similarity to paint and can be seen evaporating after it has been deposited on the floor, becoming the gas that makes up the lower portion of the main body. The smell has been described as acrid and acidic and indeed victims who have come into physical contact with the substance are found to have moderate to severe burns. At times it appears to become frustrated and throw violent tantrums, smashing and breaking any nearby objects or structures and becoming more aggressive towards intruders. Despite its highly destructive power Solitaria is not inherently aggressive, choosing to ignore intruders unless provoked. What may provoke the creature, however, is unclear, the two most common triggers appear to be making a great deal of noise and attempting to approach it, but other "offenses" have included: knocking over an empty soda can, touching the wrong archaic arcade machine, and looking at it for too long. Magical girls are advised to engage only in groups of at least four.
Tinnebriel (Dib)
Size Rating: Large (between one and two stories in height)
Danger Rating: High
Minions: none
Nest: yes
Vocalizations: Unusual. Resembles young boy reading a series of numbers in a similar fashion to a "numbers station"
Behavior: Territorial/Migratory/Aggressive
This creature is unusual in that while it possesses a "nest" and stays within, it is also prone to moving to a new place and bringing its nest with it. It seems to favor places like museums, schools, and libraries, which has caused concern that this may be a monster capable of seeking information, though to what end is currently unknown. The interior of the nest is based upon wherever it is currently located, the lighting within will be severally lowered or put out entirely and replaced with fog and an ever distant blue light, geometry will fold in on itself and perspective will become distorted. The latter distortions are so extreme that no matter what size of a room or hallway, the creature has been observed moving through them with ease, even when it should not be able to. Of note is a giant cylindrical structure of some kind in the center of the nest made from sheets of metal and electronic parts. It possesses large glass apertures showing the interior to be filled with a swirling phosphoric blue substance similar in appearance to stellar plasma, possibly the source of the blue light. The creature can be seen scaling the structure and attempting to force objects into it, predominantly forms of writing: books, magazines, comics; and electronic items like laptops and phones, lending more to the theory that it is trying to collect information for some unknown purpose. It is very protective of its nest and will immediately seek out and attempt to kill any intruders or people already present in it's chosen location. In a disturbing turn of events, it has been reported that this monster vocalizes human speech, analogous of whatever the most common local language is. Despite this it doesn't seem capable of communication as all it does is recite numbers. Those who have heard it "speak" report feeling dizzy and lightheaded and as though something was "rooting around" in their head. The creature is surprisingly fast and agile despite having no legs and appearing to have lost the lower half of its body. It pulls itself around on it's larger arms and while not capable of prolonged or coordinated flight, it's many wings have been seen to propel it through the air when making large jumps. It has also been seen "flopping" along over rooftops while migrating. The most puzzling behavior however is Tinnebriel's heralding of Vorare-Schism's appearance, to the point that this change in behavior can be used to evacuate civilians in advance. Tinnebriel will abandon its nest and travel to the next location Vorare-Schism will appear in, at times up to a week before manifestation, the way Tinnebriel determines this is unknown. Once Vorare-Schism manifests Tinnebriel will attack it and will not stop until Vorare-Schism has killed it, often by vivisection. After a short time, Tinnebriel's body will dissolve in a manner similar to most slane monsters, but will almost immediately reappear at its last nest. Introduction
Natural products have been an integral part of ancient traditional medicine systems, e.g. Chinese, Ayurvedic and Egyptian [1]. Over the years, they have assumed a very central stage in modern civilization as natural source of chemotherapy as well as amongst scientist in search for alternative sources of drugs. According to the World Health Organization [2], a medicinal plant is any plant which in one or more of its organs, contains substances that can be used for therapeutic purposes, or which are precursors for chemo-pharmaceutical semi synthesis. Such a plant will have its parts including leaves, roots, rhizomes, stems, barks, flowers, fruits, grains or seeds, employed in the control or treatment of a disease condition and therefore contains chemical components that are medically active [3]. Phytochemicals are bio-active chemicals of plant origin. They are regarded as secondary metabolites because the plant that manufactures them may have little need for them. They are naturally synthesized in all parts of the plant body; bark, leaves stem, root, flower, fruits, seeds, etc. i.e. any part of the plant body may contain active components [4].
Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is one of those plants that were seriously investigated over several years and used for centuries to fight infectious diseases [5]. It is belong to family Amaryllidaceae [6]. It is a cultivated food highly regarded throughout the world. Garlic is originally from Central Asia, and as one of the earliest of cultivated plants [7]. Therapeutic use of garlic has been recognized as a potential medicinal value for thousands of years to different microorganisms. For example; antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial antihelmantic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties of garlic are well documented. Moreover, garlic extracts exhibited activity against both gram negative (E. coli, Salmonella sp. and Citrobacter Enterobacter, Pseudomonas Klebsiella) and gram positive (S. aureus, S. pneumonia, streptococcus and Bacillus anthrax) all of which are cause of morbidity worldwide [8].
In Africa, particularly in Nigeria, it is used to treat abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, otitis media and respiratory tract infections [9]. In Europe and India, it was used to treat common colds, hay fever and asthma [10]. In addition to its reputation as a healthy food, garlic has shown anti-viral, anti-bacterial, antifungal and antioxidant capacities. Additionally, anti-atherosclerotic and anti-cancer properties have also been demonstrated. Many researches had demonstrated its effectiveness and broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against many species of bacteria, viruses, parasites, protozoan and fungi [9]. Garlic extract inhibits the growth of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Micrococcus, Enterobacter, Escherichia, Klebsiella, Lactobacillus, Pseudomonas, Shigella, Salmonella, Proteus, and Helicobacter pylori [11]. The objective of the present study was to investigate the phytochemical constituents and proximate composition of Garlic (A. sativum) extracts.
Materials and Methods
Sample collection and identification of Garlic bulb
Fresh bulbs of Garlic Allium sativa (Family Amaryllidaceae) were purchased from Kano main Market in Kano city, Nigeria. Identification and authentication of the Garlic was done at Herbarium in the Department of Plant Science, Bayero University Kano with the following voucher number BUKHAN 297. Voucher specimens were deposited in the Herbarium for reference.
Preparation of extracts
The collected bulbs were washed with distilled water, air dried for two weeks and grounded into fine powder using sterile pestle and mortar under laboratory condition. Fifty (50) grams of the powder was mixed with 500ml of Distilled water and ethanol in a sterile conical flask separately and stand for 3 days with intermittent shaking. The mixtures were filtered using filter paper and concentrated in water bath at 70 °C for 3 hours. Each extract was kept in a sterile container and refrigerated at 4 °C for further experiment.
Phytochemical screening
The phytochemical screening of the Garlic for various phytochemical constituents such as terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, reducing sugars, steroid, glycoside, phenol, Anthraquinones, saponin and tannin was conducted using standard methods as described by Sofowora [12] and Trease and Evans [13].
Quantitative phytochemical analysis
Different methods were used in evaluating the quantity of phytochemical constituents of the plant materials used. Spectrophotometric method was used to determine Terpenoids, tannins, steroids, anthraquinone, and glycosides. Folin-Ciocalteu procedure was used to determine phenol content. Flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins were determined by the methods described by Adeniyi et al. [14].
Proximate analysis
Proximate analysis of the Moringa leaves was conducted to determine the ash content; crude protein, crude fibre, crude lipid, carbohydrate and dry matter using methods described by Udo and Oguwele [15]; James [16] and Association of Official Analytical Chemist (AOAC) [17]. The proximate parameters were expressed in percentage (%).
Mineral analysis
The mineral composition of the leaves including potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and zinc (Zn), phosphorous (P) and iron (Fe) were determined using the atomic absorption spectrophotometer, as described the methods of AOAC [17]. Phosphorus was determined colorimetry method.
Results
Go toPhytochemical screening
The qualitative phytochemical screening of Allium sativum aqueous and ethanol extracts is presented in Table 1. The result indicated the presence of Alkaloid, terpenoids, flavonoids, steroid, phenol, Anthraquinones, saponin, tannin and glycoside.
The qualitative phytochemical screening of Allium sativum extracts is presented in table below (Table 2). Quantitatively, Alkaloid was found to be the abundant constituent making about 7.2 %, followed by Tannin and saponin constituting 4.8 % and 4.3 % respectively.
Proximate analysis
The qualitative and quantitative proximate analysis of Allium sativum bulb is presented in the table below (Table 3). The qualitative proximate composition of the bulb extract of Allium sativum bulb in g/100g showed the extract contain carbohydrate, protein, fats, fibre, moisture and ash while the quantitative analysis result was presented as carbohydrate with 66.00%, protein 16.23%, fats 2.44%, crude fibre 03.96%, moisture content 5.52% and ash content 05.85%
Mineral analysis
The mineral analysis of Allium sativum bulb is presented in Table 4. The mineral composition analysis of the bulb indicates the presence of calcium (23.40%), potassium (10.95%), magnesium (3.90%), zinc (0.44%), phosphorous (9.85%), iron (5.20%) and copper (0.05%).
Discussion
The results of the present study suggested that several phytochemicals are present in Allium sativum bulb extracts. Phytochemicals give plants their colour, flavour, smell and are part of a plant`s natural defense system and protect them against herbivorous insects and vertebrates, fungi, pathogens, and parasites [18]. The phytochemicals saponin, flavonoid, tannin, reducing sugar, steroid, and terpenoid were present in Allium sativa extracts according to this study. The phytochemical content of the extract of A. sativum revealed that the Alkaloids was found to be the most abundant phytochemical (7.2 %) followed by tannin (4.8 %), saponin (4.3 %) and flavonoids (2.18 %).
Based on the finding of this study, terpenoid is present in the both the extracts. Terpenoids have been found to be useful in the prevention and therapy of several diseases, including cancer. Terpenoids are also known to possess antimicrobial, antifungal, antiparasitic, antiviral, anti-allergenic, antispasmodic, antihyperglycemic, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties [19]. Flavonoids are also present in the extracts as a potent water-soluble antioxidant and free radical scavenger, which prevent oxidative cell damage and also have strong anticancer activity [20]. It also helps in managing diabetes induced oxidative stress. Steroids are importance in pharmacy as they possess compounds like sex hormones and can be used for drug production [21]. Tannin and saponin were present in the extract. Saponins protect against hypercholesterolemia and antibiotics properties. In addition, it has been found that saponins have antitumor, antioxidant and anti-mutagenic activities and can lower the risk of human cancers by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells [22]. The growth of many fungi, yeast, bacteria and viruses was inhibited by tannins [23]. The finding of this study correlate with the finding of Abaoab et al. [24] which found that clove extract possessed a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity exhibited for both bacteria and fungi due to presence saponin, tannin, flavonoid and terpenoid. The result of this study on Phytochemistry of Garlic supported the study conducted by Deresse [8] who found that garlic extracts exhibited activity against both gram negative (E. coli, Salmonella sp, and Citrobacter Enterobacter, Pseudomonas Klebsiella) and gram positive (S. aureus, S. pneumonia, streptococcus and Bacillus anthrax) due to presence of some phytochemicals such saponin and tannin.
The results of the present study indicate that the qualitative proximate composition of A. sativum bulb contain carbohydrate, protein, fats, fibre, moisture and ash while the quantitative analysis result was presented as carbohydrate with 66.00%, protein 16.23%, fats 2.44%, crude fibre 03.96%, moisture content 5.52% and ash content 05.85%. This indicated the higher content of carbohydrate when compared to the rest. The higher carbohydrate content may be useful in making A. sativum bulb a good source of energy for the body. The presence of moisture, ash, lipid and protein in A. sativum bulb suggests that it may be useful for body building, prevention of ageing while the high dietary crude fibre content will help in bowel movement. This important nutrients composition in A. sativum bulb provides a justification that the bulb could be used as food supplement. Finding of this study indicated low fat content in A. sativum bulb, and low fat foods are known to reduce cholesterol level [25]. This result was inconformity with that of Harsh et al. [26].
According to the result of this study, the mineral analysis of Moringa leaf extract contained some important essential minerals such as; calcium (23.40%), potassium (10.95%), magnesium (3.90%), zinc (0.44%), phosphorous (9.85%), iron (5.20%) and copper (0.05%). The presence of such minerals in A. sativum bulb could be utilized as a nutritionally valuable and healthy ingredient for food. The mineral elements contained in these spices are very important in human nutrition. Sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium play a central role in the normal regulation of blood pressure [27]. They could also be valuable in improving immune system and preventing malnutrition related diseases. Mineral elements are required for normal growth, activities of muscles and skeletal development (such as calcium), cellular activity and transport of oxygen (copper and iron), chemical react ion in the body and intestinal absorption (magnesium), fluid balance and nerve transmission (sodium and potassium), as well as the regulation of acid-base balance (phosphorus). Iron is useful in prevent ion of anemia and other related diseases [28]. Manganese plays a role in energy production and in supporting the immune system while zinc is useful for protein synthesis, normal body development and recovery from illness [29].
Conclusion
Based on the findings of the present study, phytochemical constituents, proximate and minerals components of A. sativum bulb were determined. The phytochemical components of A. sativum bulb contain alkaloid, saponins, flavonoids, glycoside, anthraquinones, tannin and terpenoids. The results of the proximate and mineral analyses of the whole leaf indicated the presence of considerable amount of nutrients. The presence of the phytochemicals has authenticated its usefulness by traditional herbalists in ethno medicine and potentials in drug formulation and development. In addition to that, the presence of nutrients proves why A. sativum bulb can be used as food supplement.

The evaluation of dental health is extremely important for a healthy lifestyle. Dental X-Rays help you understand the patient's oral health. Dental X-Rays (radiographs) are images of the teeth that the dentist utilizes in order to study the well-being of the patient's teeth. For this purpose, Dental X Ray machines are used to produce images of the teeth. These Dental X-Ray machines are of various types and getting the right type of Dental X ray machine for your practice is a crucial step. To understand which kind of Dental X-Ray machine to buy, it is important to understand the specific design and purpose of each Dental X-Ray machine.

Usually, Dental X-Ray machines are either intraoral or extraoral.
Different types of Dental X-Ray Equipment:
Intraoral Dental Equipment: Dental X-Ray machines capture the images using a piece of film, sensor or a phosphor plate that has been kept inside the mouth of the patient. These intraoral Dental X-Ray machines are of two kinds which are periapical X-Ray equipment and handheld X-Ray equipment. Periapical X-Ray equipment has an X-Ray sensor attached to the swing arm's end while the arm is mounted to a levelled surface such as a wall, a rolling stand or a cabinet. This equipment works on intraoral X-Rays to produce three kinds of X-Ray images which are Bitewing, Periapical and Occlusal.
Bitewing images show X-Rays of the upper and lower back teeth and help you judge issues that have been caused by gum diseases, infections, bone loss and misalignment.
Periapical images display the complete set of the patient teeth to you. The images comprise of the root structure, the crowns, and bone support. They help you understand the problems beneath the gum line or in the jaws.
Occlusal images show you the roof or floor of the patient's mouth. They help you to figure out any extra teeth, jaw fractures, foreign objects or pre-emergent teeth.
Contrarily, the Handheld X-Ray equipment needs lesser space and one Handheld X-Ray equipment can be used as a replacement for multiple stationary units. The fundamental parts of a handheld device are an X Ray tube assembly, a protective shield at the end of the cone and an irradiation switch on the body. Handheld equipment is cost-friendly, portable and flexible and provides better care to your patients. Also, the patients feel less intimidated about the process because while using this equipment the operator stays in the room, instead of going behind a wall during exposure. Therefore, handheld X-Rays are the ideal equipment for patients who might be having difficulty with X-Rays. Such patients may include those with geriatric, pediatric or with special needs. Furthermore, when the operator is present in the room, the number of retakes gets reduced and the efficiency and workflow are improved and time gets saved
Extraoral Dental Equipment: Dental X-Ray machines capture images from outside of the patient's mouth. While some of them have generic uses, some are specific in their design. Some of these are:
Panoramic X-Rays: This X-Ray mechanism shows you a wide view, of the entire teeth set, comprising of all the teeth, the complete jaw, nasal cavity and the temporomandibular joints (TMJ). These X-Rays display a wide range of oral issues.
Cephalometric X-Rays: Taken with a panoramic X-Ray machine which is used with a sensor or a special film mounted on a mechanical arm, these X-Rays capture a view of the entire dental structure. They also show you the face profile and are used to plan and treat oral surgery, orthodontic procedures, and maxillofacial surgery.
Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT): CBCT is an extremely technical and specialized X-Ray machine. It is used to capture 3D images of the bone structure, teeth, nerve paths and the surrounding tissue, all of which it displays in a single scan. You can utilize CBCT in specialized procedures and treatments such as diagnosing TMJ disorders, dental implant placements, oral or reconstructive surgery, and pathology.
These developments in Dental X-Ray technology help you in advancing oral treatment as well as in improving patient experiences. Given the complex field of dentistry, it thus becomes imperative for you to have the right Dental X-Ray machine for a smooth dental practice.

From the Chasm III
Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction, Transaction
For fourteen years, mankind listened to the repeating signals from the Tau Ceti system. The Earth, the gas giants and the independent alliances of the Sol system sought cooperation, but for the better part of a decade, consensus was elusive. The scientific community speculated. Politicans quelled fears and unrest. Most of humanity went about their lives in quiet ignorance. The existential, extraterrestrial crisis occurring 12 light years away was beyond the concern of the average human or transhuman. If something powerful enough to dismantle planets was tolling away in the stellar neighborhood, could anyone really do anything about it? Certain parties believed so.
Seven years after the first signals began, the Kuiper Alliance defied the Earth’s Eden Declaration and began producing defensive systems in the Oort cloud. For two years the process went undetected by the inner solar system. But the Alliance’s concept of system defense was the deployment of millions of kinetic impactors in the Oort cloud, and it simply couldn’t remain hidden forever.
Eight years after the project Obsidian Shield began, the Terran government formally acknowledged the illegal weapon system and publicly denounced the Kuiper Alliance for unprovoked military mobilization. The Kuiper Alliance denied any allegations of militarization, instead citing the unknown threat beyond the solar system that would undoubtedly effect their colonies in the Oort cloud before Earth. Inner solar system leadership didn’t relent, and soon a phosphorous, hydrogen and nuclear fuels embargo was placed on the Kuiper Alliance. The hydrogen market subsequently crashed in the Neptunian system, the Plutonian system and on Eris. Dozens of independent settlements in the Oort cloud when into stasis. Entire colonies were abandoned, as many were tiny worlds at perihelion. Without nuclear fuel stockpiles and the means to build their civilization, they would never survive the next thousand year orbit. All in all, the Kuiper Alliance suffered immensely and was forced to suspend production of outer solar system defenses.
Many historians cite this exchange as a major contributor to the severity of the December Glow Event.
Fourteen years after the signals from Tau Ceti began, Sol detected the first projectile from Tau Ceti. The object was small, no more than three kilometers wide and several more kilometers long. A microlensing event was the first indication. Astronomers noticed something moving against the interstellar background, bending the light of distant stars in a manner consistent with rogue planets. Yet continued observation showed a tiny object. Asteroid sized. Speculation ran wild. Even indication told them that the object was accelerating beyond five percent of the speed of light.
And it was close. Less than a year after discovery, it had entered the Oort cloud. The Kuiper Alliance activated every weapon with even the slightest chance of interception. Hundreds came close. Dozens returned imagery. The object resembled a metallic asteroid with diamond crust and crevices full of unknown metallic elements. It was brimming with radiation and infrared light. Two impactors actually made contact with the weapon, one merely grazing the leading half, the other scoring a relativistic strike on the aft portion, blowing several thousand tons of material off and apparently disabling the machine itself. To this day, It is unclear if this impact altered the course of the object and led to catastrophe, or if the object managed to change its course before going inert.
What is known is that after passing inside the Oort cloud, the object and its remnants were moving far too fast to be intercepted. Terran military ships and facilities made several attempts with missiles and deep space lasers, but the relativistic speeds were simply too great to account for.
On December 3rd, 2340, the Tau Ceti Comet as it was informally known, struck the Pacific Ocean at 9% of the speed of light. The atmosphere in the impact zone heated to incandescence in an instant, compressed beneath the impactor. Most humans living in that hemisphere witnessed a sun-like flash as the atmosphere compressed and ignited. It is estimated that 1/27th of the entire human population died with this initial impact. Billions of tons of seawater vaporized instantly. A wall of molten crust rose above the atmosphere at the impact site, falling outwards. Over the next several hours, shockwaves raced across the planet multiple times, flattening terrain and civilization and superheating the atmosphere further. Over the following days, Earth quickly died, along with almost forty billion people.
The greatest tragedy in human history unfolded and plunged the solar system into a new era of uncertainty. Saturn, Jupiter, the Kuiper Alliance and the free nations of the Sol system suddenly turned their focus inward, trying to interpret the new course for humanity. All the while, the Tau Ceti signals continued....

PT 3 of HJ-7 knock-off research (Re-Upload)
Have I begun to lose myself, same as Dr. Jekyll, in an attempt to formulate/re-create the chemical ingredients of HJ-7? Am I a good man? Or am I a mad man?
It’s such a fine line…
Part One
Part Two
Foolishness below:
Alright-
So now we’re back to chemicals. I had decided that instead of using direct phosphorus we shall be using one of its dirivatives: Phosphate.
More specifically Orthophosphate, which is soluble phsophorus used by plants.
Now luckily, this allows for a liquid form and still smells like garlic (that’s what phosphorus smells like), so sweet, let’s see what it’s about.
Phosphate is from Phosphoric acid (remember that string of chatter that led to P.A. from a while back? Yeah, it’s full circle), and available to plants kinda means that people can get their fair share without dying.
Phosphoric acid can also be heated to the point of condensation (with condensation meaning that two or molecules from another compound produce another product by being in equilibrium, i.e won’t throw hands when meeting, with each other and a water molecule. This refers to organic chemistry so don’t worry too much about what you know what condensation is already.) where it then becomes pyrophosphates or diphosphates or triphosphates with its bond being very important in biochemistry as it relates to ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate: the energy provider for many living cells).

Intererasante, it’s almost as if the cells do stuff under its influence. Rearranging even…hmmmmmm.
This is still white or colourless-

(As phosphorous tends to be so we still have nothing red going on.)
Apparently, the alkali metal salt versions are soluble in water and complexing agents for metal ions, so let’s check that out shall we?
In its salt form (How many forms has this thing gone through? Ave Maria), known as Trisodium pyrophosphate (and another being Disodium Pyrophosphate) it serves as a weak acid or base to maintain the acidity of a solution (buffering agent) or bonds ions or molecules to metal ions (chelation).
(Dammit, I tried to save what I said before but it didn’t save, sigh ;-;
Good thing I have at least 10 seconds of memory before it gets auto-deleted)
In a pdf that I happened to come across, the researcher was attempting to make sodium ferric pyrophosphate (which just so happens to be an alkali metal what-not that we previously mentioned) for the enrichment of flour and other food stuff.
Tragically for them, they wanted it to be white coloured. Luckily for us, the product of their objective appeared in a yellow or reddish-brown colour.
Through the double decomposition reaction (positive and negative ions of two different compounds take part in the tv show ‘Wife Swap’ and create two new compounds) of soluble inorganic salts with our tetrasodium pyrophosphate in an aqueous solution, we get our “delicious” and pharmaceutical sodium ferric pyrophosphate.
This is used to treat iron deficiencies, and, if we were to refer back to my symptoms section of my analysis where Dr Jekyll pretty much gets his iron holding red blood cells K.O’d by HJ7, he would very likely need this to replace that missing iron.
Alright, pull up back the ingredient mind map.
Old:
“We have (white phosphorus + bromine; assuming, pre-made outside with proper fire safety) Phosphoric acid + carbon disulfide* + ???? (red liquid) + sodium bisulfate (our salt) + heat= ????.”
Newer:
Sodium Ferric Pyrophosphate + Carbon Disulfide (might not need this) (our red mixture) + Sodium Bisulfate (our salt) + heat= HJ7?
Now the part that always causes everything to go downwards into the descent of hell, reactions.

Ah boy.
Honestly, I shouldn’t expect it to work but just like my younger self in math class this math equation gotta make sense somehow.
I’m hopeful.
Alright-
Pt. 4 in the near future. We might be on our final stretch folks.
Edit: 04/30/2020 (Part 4 has been in my drafts for a good while now and I have no idea when i’m going to finish this, so anime cliff hanger except it was an analysis of a fake chemical.)
