being unattractive or physically different/disabled DOES NOT equal being morally bad/evil. there is an atrocious amount of ableism that occurs when someone doesn’t look “normal.” and i am so fucking sick of it.
in media it is (almost) always the villains who are different/disabled. and media is a massive part of how people form their world views.
i want to mention arcane for example, because people seem to be confused about what good representation is. people praise the hell out of that show, and for good reason it has great things about it, but people told me it had good disabled representation. so i watched it. and while parts of the disabled representation is good.. almost all physically different/disabled characters are portrayed as bad/evil/villains at some point in their story (or all of it.) and then by the end of the show most of them are dead.
abled people i need you to understand that is not good representation. please look out for these tropes it happens ALL the time.
good representation includes different/disabled characters who are heroes and morally “good” too.
if you make all your villains physically different and none of them are heroes i hate you. i am so sick of this.

yeah you're "punk" but are you normal about deformed people?
Edit: reblogs are off because my notes have been filled with this post for months. the correct term is 'people with limb/facial differences' and this post was originally about the cripplepunk movement not punk as a whole

Really wish I saw more art of deformed characters. More diversity in bodies. I feel like people are scared to draw us because they’re worried they’ll do it wrong or something. But 1. wrong and trying is better than nothing, and 2. you can always ask somebody for input. There are always people who are willing to answer your questions, you just have to find them. My asks are always open and I know a to of other people who are like that, too.

Having physical deformities is very isolating.
I have deformities in my hands, wrists, and everything from the pelvis down. There are some movements my body is physically not capable of and that will never change because my bones are a different shape than most people’s. My legs are rotated in a way that braces do not exist for, I would need highly customized super supportive braces for it to do anything other than sit there and be an explanation as to why I walk weird. Off the shelf aids do nothing for my body.
When you look from a distance I look mostly normal because I am sitting in a wheelchair and probably wearing long baggy pants, but the first time my boyfriend saw my legs uncovered and fully extended he found it hard to believe that I am able to walk at all. There’s not really a way to explain it without showing a picture which I am not doing.
My hands do not move the same way as yours probably do. My thumbs do not have full range of motion because I am missing half of a joint in both of them. I hold things differently, I do things differently, and I have been bullied relentlessly my entire life for it.
I’m tired of physical deformities being pushed to the side because it’s too much for most of you. Too much for the world to have to look at the body I don’t have a choice for.
There is not a single position that is comfortable for me unless I am doped out of my mind on several different types of medication. I have had doctors look me in the eye and say they have never seen anything like this before and they can’t help me. I have been told by a doctor that if she was me she wouldn’t have wanted to be born.
And this is all met with “well can you blame them?” Because my existence is some people’s worst nightmare. Being me is their worst nightmare.
While we’re here, never try to police the language someone is referring to themself with. I call it a deformity because that is how I view it for myself. That is what I am comfortable calling it. It’s the same reason I use the word crippled, it’s undeniable. I don’t like using flowery language to describe what has been a very hard experience. I don’t view it as something to be ignored and I don’t view it as something to be made pretty, it’s something that is real and very difficult.
This is why I am so drawn to Hephaestus. He has deformities in the same places I do. He was the first place I ever saw someone that actually looked like me. But also I feel like it’s pretty sad I can only find representation in a god from a religion that was at its highest over 2000 years ago.

i'm totally coining "ambulableism" - ableism from people who can walk (disabled or otherwise) towards people who cannot. examples include:
claiming it's the same thing to need a wheelchair fulltime vs part time
telling me "i love your wheelchair" when i'm minding my own business
using the wheelchair stall when you can physically use another stall
everyone who has ever approached me in public to tell me about their hEDS/POTs unprompted (this happens at least once a week. i'm not joking)
telling me you're jealous of my wheelchair/wish you could afford one/wish you had the "confidence" to use one/"i need a wheelchair too but no one believes me"
bringing up my disability every 10 seconds or asking if i relate to things
pretending to be impressed when i do necessary tricks (ie. wheelie up a curb)
staring at me in public - bonus points for wearing invisible disability/neurodivergent pride merch and a forlorn "i'm disabled too and i just wanna be your friend" look
asking me how i was diagnosed, complaining about your own difficulty with getting diagnosed unprompted, asking me to diagnose you; i'm literally a stranger in a wheelchair
telling me how privileged i am to have a wheelchair/be diagnosed/never get fakeclaimed/whatever
"what's wrong with your legs" or "why do you look like that" right off the bat
making "your legs don't work" jokes within the first 12 hours of knowing me - seriously, y'all are wayyyy too comfortable, and not original in the slightest
assuming i want to talk to you or be your friend just because i'm disabled
moving out of the wheelchair space on the bus and then looking at me like a kicked puppy for the entire journey
this is (mostly) a joke post but if anyone has additions i'd love to hear them!

Witch's Marks
Tumblr media
Throughout history, certain bodily features, marks, and signs have been associated with witchcraft. Some were used as evidence in witch trials, while others are esoteric indicators of magickal potential. This guide explores birthmarks, scars, deformities, palmistry signs, and other physical features believed to mark someone as a witch.
The Devil’s Mark (Historical Accusations)
During European and Colonial American witch trials, interrogators searched for "witch marks"—signs that a person had made a pact with the Devil. These included:
• Birthmarks, moles, or skin discolorations – Believed to be "kissed" or marked by spirits.
• Unusual scars – Especially if they did not bleed or were insensitive to pain.
• Extra nipples or "witch's teat" – Supposedly used to nurse familiars or demons.
• Cold or unbleeding spots – Accused witches were pricked with needles; if they didn’t bleed, it was considered proof of guilt.
• Webbed fingers or extra digits – Rare genetic traits mistaken for supernatural origins.
Many of these were simply natural bodily variations but were feared in times of witch hunts and superstition.
Birthmarks & Deformities (Signs of Magical Power)
In folklore, specific birthmarks were considered signs of innate witchery or past-life connections to magick:
• Crescent Moon Birthmark – A birthmark in the shape of a moon was thought to indicate a connection to lunar magick and intuition.
• Pentagram or Star-shaped Marks – Rare but sometimes reported, believed to signify natural protection and spiritual insight.
• Heart-shaped Birthmarks – Associated with love magick and emotional sensitivity.
• Red or Wine-Colored Marks (Port-Wine Stains) – In some cultures, these were seen as marks of a fire-witch or one chosen by spirits.
• Marks on the Hands or Feet – A birthmark on the palm was believed to give heightened intuition.
• Eye Discoloration (Heterochromia or Unusual Eyes) – Seen as a sign of second sight or fae lineage.
Palmistry Indicators of a Witch
Tumblr media
Palmistry holds many signs that indicate a natural witch, healer, or mystic. The most significant ones include:
• The Mystic Cross or Secret Cross(X Between Heart & Head Lines) – A powerful mark of psychic ability and magickal talent.
• Psychic Crosses - Potent psychic ability, blessed by the planets at birth.
• The Healer’s Mark (Multiple Vertical Lines on the Mercury Mount) – Found on those gifted in energy work, spellcraft, and healing.
• The Conjure Mark - A star mark under the ring finger that indicates special talents in magick and spiritual favor.
• The Mystic M - 'M' shaped lines that indicate heightened intuition and mystical abilities.
• The Ring of Solomon (A Semi-circle Under the Index Finger) – Indicates a deep understanding of occult wisdom and esoteric arts.
• The Deep Cross - An inverted cross that symbolizes cleverness, trickiness, luck, and a connection to the crossroads.
• The Psychic Triangle - Indicator of strong psychic abilities.
• The Fate Line Merging with the Life Line – Shows a destiny closely tied to magick and spirituality.
• Astral Travel Lines - Indicator of ability to transcend time and space.
• The Debtor's Mark - Indicates a generational curse, appears as an 'X' on the thumb.
• A Star on the Mount of Moon (Near the Base of the Palm) – Indicates prophetic dreams, intuition, and a connection to spirits.
• Curved or Clawed Index Finger – Called the "witch’s finger", symbolizing strong will and magickal power.
• Unusual Fingernail Shapes – Some traditions claim long, almond-shaped, or black-ridged nails indicate magickal energy.
Facial & Eye Features of a Witch
Certain facial traits were thought to reveal innate magickal abilities:
• Different Colored Eyes (Heterochromia) – Considered a sign of foresight or fae ancestry.
• Deep-Set or Piercing Eyes – Often linked to hypnotic power and psychic perception.
• Naturally Arched or "Fox-Like" Eyebrows – Some folklore says this reveals a cunning or spellcasting nature.
• A Widow’s Peak Hairline – In some cultures, a widow’s peak was seen as a sign of powerful intuition.
Other Supernatural Bodily Features
• Toes of Equal Length (Greek Foot) – Thought to be a mark of spiritual leaders, witches, or powerful souls.
• Long or Slender Fingers – Associated with energy manipulation and spellcasting.
• Naturally Cold Hands – In some traditions, this was seen as a sign of spirit sensitivity.
• Naturally White or Silver Hair (Young Age) – Seen as a sign of wisdom beyond one's years and magical lineage.
• Unusual Hair Growth Patterns – Some cultures believed a single streak of white hair indicated past-life magic use.
• Unusually Pale or Unnaturally Dark Skin (Relative to Ancestry) – In folklore, extreme contrast in skin tone was thought to mark those "touched" by magic.
Scars & Witch Marks from Rituals
Some witches intentionally mark themselves with scars, tattoos, or ritual wounds as signs of initiation, devotion, or power. These include:
• Self-Carved Sigils or Runes – Done in blood magic or personal empowerment rituals.
• Burn Marks (Fire Walkers or Flame-Proof Witches) – Some traditions claim that a witch initiated into fire magic might have a burn-resistant patch of skin.
• Scars from Spiritual Battles or Shamanic Trials – Found in spirit workers and energy healers, especially in Indigenous traditions.
While historical witch marks were often used to persecute and harm innocent people, many esoteric traditions still recognize certain physical signs as indicators of magical gifts. Whether birthmarks, palmistry signs, or deliberate markings, these features connect people to the ancient mystical heritage of witchcraft.
Do you have any of these witch marks? Many believe that discovering such features can be a sign of magical potential, past-life witchcraft, or a deep connection to the unseen world.

Stretching Ant Rafts
Tumblr media
In their natural habitat, fire ants experience frequent floods and so developed the ability to form rafts. Entire colonies will float out a flood in a two-ant-thick raft anchored to whatever vegetation they can find. Because ants in the upper layer of the raft are constantly milling about, the rafts have some ability to "self-heal" as they're stretched. (Image credit: top - Wikimedia Commons, others - C. while I'm in a rotational difference ramble spree let me share something for people with one:
You are not obligated to get surgery ‼️
doctors, the people around you, and even other people with a rotational difference will try to pressure you into it. you don't have to go through with it
if you're old enough to be on Tumblr that surgery is experimental. they do not fully understand the benefits for people who get the surgery late. it is often cosmetic and aims to make your legs look "normal" instead of functional. that surgery requires breaking your bones in several places and putting them back together. you have to relearn to walk. it takes a year to recover. people often still have chronic pain afterwards. it is a major surgery that they will try to sell you as something simple.
if you want that, if you feel it's worth it to you, then absolutely get the surgery but you don't have to.
make your decision for yourself, not other people. know there are other options like bracing and mobility aids that can give you just as fulfilling of a life.

I think people don’t understand how insidious it is to imply that minorities shouldn’t enjoy being themselves.
When people question why I say I’m glad I’m deformed, even though it causes me chronic pain because my body isn’t built to support my weight, they’re implying that my deformities, the way my body was born/naturally developed, is something that should cause me mental anguish. That I’m not allowed to love each and every part of myself, even the parts that cause me pain and trouble.
My deformities are part of who I am. And I can’t change them. I could get surgery for one of them (though it’s not recommended, or at least hasn’t been to me by my doctor), but even then, my history with my deformity and the impact of having had surgery would continue to impact me. They’re part of my body and I love my body. They’re part of me and I love myself. I’m allowed to like, and even love, being deformed.

I love that part in 2.6 of 3H6 where the Yorkists win the battle and are planning the coronation for Edward and Edward is like "ok George, you can be Duke of Clarence and Richard, you'll be Duke of Gloucester" and Richard is like "uhhhh Duke of Gloucester is kinda cursed, can George and I switch dukedoms?" And Warwick is like "oh that's silly, just be Duke of Gloucester" thus creating Richard, Duke of Gloucester who is most definitely the most accurst Duke of Gloucester of them all
#richard iii#3 henry vi#shakespeare#text post#richard duke of gloucester#edward iv#wars of the roses#you know up until he becomes duke of gloucester he's just vengeful#you can call him evil. and ppl point out his physical deformities. but he has the same motivation as the other yorkists#perhaps he's the most eager in the script to please his father and brothers. but his valor is clear#he's a charismatic and good warrior fighting on his FAMILY'S behalf. the family's honor. their right#we get no hint of him having a personal vainglory for power until AFTER edward gains the throne and richard becomes gloucester#one could argue that. if you don't know how he WILL develop as a character. that he's upright#in a conflict portraying a lot of morally gray personalities. young richard is not the most despicable#like clifford is fighting w similar motivation (vengeance for his father) but he's MUCH more monstrous#vengeance itself is not portrayed as honorable but richard's vengeance is aimed at a monster worse than him so far#he fights to elevate others over himself at that point. though he does stand to benefit of course#he's a good son and a good brother and a precocious warrior#it's after he tastes power and success that we see his intent to set the murderous machiavel to school#r3 tells us that richard has always felt outcast and that was his motivation to seek power. but it's actually once he's IN power#that he becomes evil#if warwick hadn't tutted him and just let him be duke of clarence instead!!!#this is all your fault warwick. all your fault!!!
