Finally finished making Xamora's plaque. Took longer than expected due to anxiety and needing to learn how to work with plaster of paris. It's not perfect but it captured what I wanted it to. I'm looking for someone local familiar with plaster who can clean it up without damaging it.

I didn't find any specific tutorial on how to do this. I started with these two articles to help determine how long to wait for the plaster to set, and used this mixing technique. I waited about 2 min post mixing to set in Xamora and the flowers. Left her in for about 5 minutes but should have gone for 6 or 7 - a few things wound up smudged. Flowers should be removed earlier so the petals don't get stuck in the plaster. Letters shouldn't be removed until plaster has fully hardened - about 25+ minutes.

It's a delicate balance of adding and removing things when it's the right time to get the best impression. Even with all my testing I had issues scaling up - also I think whatever conversion I used to calculate how much plaster I needed was wrong because I made twice as much as I needed for my pan.

I did tests using some old skin I collected - saving good pieces for a future project. I had these silicon molds I had ordered for something else the same day Xamora passed, which turned out to be handy to quickly remove my test pieces.

I also cut up the stamps to get the kerning and alignment right. I needed multiple stamp sets because it all needed to be done at the same time and left to set.

Once this is cleaned up it'll be placed on my wall to forever commemorate my first bearded dragon.

Xamora, though your life was short, it was full of love. I won't forget you.

Got everything laid out as quickly as possible. It would be better if it had been done 3 or 4 days ago, but we went through some learning experiences before figuring out the best solution.

I hope she is still able to provide some educational value to vet students once I return her body. I'm writing up a letter and printed out some pictures to give the vets. I don't know if they'll care but it made me feel better.

Today I brought home my plaster cast and did my own makeup routine on the piece to replicate my going out look / routine

It was surreal to see this when it was complete and I was extremely happy with how it turned out. I put it on the wall next to the bare faced one and my wax one which showed the contrast between a bare face and one with makeup which represented exactly what I wanted it to.

Planning a mini post-athon for some old projects from art class to show my appreciation for it plus to see my improvement in art.

This will probably last only this week and I’ll info-dump a it about it too!

so here’s one of my faves: the Zombie hand

The assignment was to make a hand out of plaster! and too paint it and give it a tattoo.

It was a two part project with the first being to draw a tattoo design.

although I don’t have the design the hand has a few tattoos and got an A! I’m quit proud of it and I’m planning to show it off somewhere in my room soon.

Lil fun fact is the the hand pose was supposed to be similar to thing from the Addams family !

Using what I learned from yesterday's workshop, I took photographs of my plaster pieces as well as a clay heart I made last week.

I focused on a lot of dark and red lighting to mimic the inside of our bodies, the use of red fabric also helped with this.

oh yeah!!!! forgot to mention this is my last day at work :') honestly the pay wasn't the greatest (not complaing though, this is a public position and it was certainly enough to get by) but ngl this was probably one of the most enjoyable jobs ive had 😭❤️ for a ridiculously conservative population like this im glad they seemed to enjoy the numerous marxist solutions to all their problems getting slid in under the reasoning of "community/small town values" and "neighbours having each other's back" and 5 minute small talk about how taxes work at the line in the grocery store lmao

Today I created a plaster mould of my face with the help of Chris. This is my face which was made from alginate then when it was dry we added the plaster and we were left with a mould of my face. I will continue to develop this piece once it’s fully dry and hopefully replicate it with a cast to duplicate it for an idea I hope to execute next week.

This lizard/salamander/newt, (sorry, I don't know exactly what it is!), looked to be made of poured plaster, was stone grey brown in color, and cracked in multiple places. I used color shifting acrylic purple paint for the body and glitter blue top coat on the spots for color with modge podge to seal the cracks and paint. Last step was a few coats of spray on UV resistant weather sealer for extra protection after the paint was dry. I absolutely love how he turned out and how great he looks in the garden! 💙✨
