Intro to Unity
Last week I started my foray into the Unity Game engine through a course taught by Sam Eng, and produced by Playcrafting NYC.
The class started off with an intro to basic programming.  We used an online Processing tool and got our feet wet.  While Unity’s code is slightly different than that used in Processing, the basic concepts are the same.
During the following class, we broke into Unity’s user interface and began pushing buttons.  The program provides a powerful set of physics, shaders, and primitive shapes that allow users to create basic scenes and prepare objects for user interaction.
In the upcoming week, we’ll be combining basic programming skills with the Unity interface to create a basic version of Flappy Bird.  Hopefully we’ll have some fun stuff to show you soon!

Going On Tour?!?
Hi all!
It’s been a long time. Sorry for being so quiet. In the past few months, I got married(!), and have been quietly working on a range of small demos. (Hit the link, but make sure you’re using Firefox, because Chrome is now too cool for Unity Web Player?!? I’ll have to get on that.)
Now that they’re to a playable state, it’s time to go on TOUR.
I’ve missed touring so much. It was my favorite part of being in a band, and now I get to have all that fun as a game dev!
I had my first ‘show’ thanks to The Sheep’s Meow and the NJ IGDA back in Feburary at the Hudson Arcade.
Coming up, I’ve got two great events where you (Yes you!) can come play both Holdout. AND Tempus Fugit!
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29TH (6-9 pm) - Microsoft Building, NYC
Playcrafting Spring Expo
RSVP in advance. It’s got pizza, and like 75 games or something!
JUNE 26 - 28TH - Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, Oaks, PA
Too Many Games
I’ll be part of the Indie Game Showcase! Come swing by the table at any part during the weekend. There might even be candy!
Finally, I wanted to talk about Being In Time. In the past few months, I put it on hold since everything was so busy. I spent some time this past weekend working on concepts and pre-production work. I’m looking at everything that’s been done as a rough prototype and will have new direction for it soon. :-)
That’s about it! Hope you’re all doing well, and looking forward to seeing everyone on the road!

Unity, here I come!
Tomorrow (technically today because it’s already the wee hours) I start a 2 month long Unity class with PlaycraftingNYC. Huzzah and hurrah!
I know next to nothing about C# or 3D modeling, but I’m excited to dig in and see what I can pull out over the next 8 weeks!
My previous forays into game dev have involved a ton of design and concept and very little coding - first messing around with Flash/ActionScript in the late 90s and now fiddling with a JavaScript game: www.scribbleships.com. I am, at heart, a front end girl. BUT THINK what fun would be missed if everyone’s caboose stayed planted firmly in their respective comfort zones? Cabooses, in both trains and people, are best when in motion.
So, onward and upward I say!
