Man all the doomerism engagement bait about wilds is getting really annoying.
“90% player drop off!! Wilds is dying!!!!!” Wilds isn’t a live service game, so people basically completed what they wanted and started playing other games. They come back for the weekly bounties and for updates.
Now that being said, the gameplay loop is faster and the focus system is broken so fights were faster and the rewards are perhaps a bit too generous thus negating a lot of the repeat hunts for materials. You also don’t need to track a monster like you did in world.
“World was harder!!!” Not really?? Or at least not in the ways people think. Monsters deal roughly the same damage as they have in world and rise. This is largely just people misremembering, having nostalgia, or learning how to play monster hunter back in world and coming into wilds knowing what to do. Trust me, I was there in 2018. MH Meat Man actually made a good video about this (I’m only halfway through it though cause it’s like 4 hours long). World did have artificially difficult fights like Lunastra though.
“The game is incomplete!!” Yes but not in the way people think. World and rise also released with a similar amount of content and people cried the same thing as well, and the people crying this now probably only played world after iceborne released. Again, I was there in 2018. I think people only took longer with world because they didn’t have a mount to carry you around and you had to track monsters, and I do agree that wilds gameplay is just the seikret ferrying you from fight to fight trying to get as much done before your food buff wears off. I do wish there was some downtime to get immersed and explore like you could in world.
Now that being said, wilds released without the gathering hub and the ability to fight the final boss multiple times, and that is actually a sin. People had to wait over a month for the hub and zoh Shia.
“The game runs like shit!!!” Yeah that’s correct and I’m not defending that. The pc version of the game is in a state similar to Cyberpunk was upon release, where you need a pc that can fight god in order to play optimally or know how to edit game files. Thankfully I play on ps5 which seems to be what wilds was primarily made for, so I’ve managed to avoid issues, but I will note that wilds is the only game that made my ps5 overheat.
All of the major issues can mostly be traced back to the fact that Capcom needed a major title release before the end of the 2025 fiscal year or else it would look really bad for investors. So basically we can mostly blame fapitalism for this.

3e: Prestigious Gender
3rd Edition D&D did, ostensibly, avoid much deliberately and exclusionary gendered language of the fantasy genre from its forebears, which is a little like saying that a rainstorm is less wet than a cyclone. And bear in mind, I am not throwing stones here: it sure is good to have reduced the amount of naked misogyny and ridiculous and unnecessary gendering that persisted across the landscape of an earlier version of the fandom, and I am glad that we then made better and better versions of the same.
There are some out there who right now are thinking this is a great point to complain about something 5e is doing, but:
I don’t know anything about 5e
I really, really don’t care about you fighting with strangers about what 5e is or is not
In prior editions of D&D, and indeed in many fantasy universes before, there were often clear and distinct gendered roles and capacities that characters had access to in the context of a fantasy adventure. You might get a description that only women could be this particular kind of scantily clad drow lady who’s going to whip you, or only men can be this particular kind of easily whipped paladin man.
The way 3e decided to handle gender in most of the books was through a method that’s quaint now but wasn’t actually that bad for the time, which is alternativing he and she in different contexts. One class would be described with he, the next she, the next he, the next she, and while this isn’t good per se, it being used in a pattern like this at least creates an evenness that can lack when you try and make judgment calls about it.
There are all sorts of other biases at work here, though those biases aren’t particularly worth harping on. Going back and beating up the authors of 3e books that range from retired to dead is meaningless stuff. I’m not interested in what they should have done; I’m much more interested in the more curious process of examining what they actually did. The use of gendered language like this is present in the work, but there’s another place where gendering language can show up that players might miss.
Prestige Classes were the spine of how players build characters in 3rd edition. It may have once been conceived of as a game where you’d take a fighter to 20 but it seemed after the prestige class system was widely understood it was a natural progression for everyone to take. Why take level 7 fighter when you could take a level of a class that was more specific to your vision and fantasy? A prestige class was like a class you could take, but it was gated behind some kind of prerequisites that you had to meet. In exchange for these requirements, your levels could be of something specific, with special abilities that set you apart from just, you know, fighter or paladin or whatever.
This system of requirements is also our first place where gender shows up. There were, in fact, a small number of prestige classes where gender was a fixed requirement. I’ve already complained about the women-only Beloved of Valarian, which is good, because it’s a bad class and it indicates some messed up thoughts about sex, agency, and women.
And before I go on, I should clarify that there is a demarcation in D&D prestige class design. If it was in a printed book, it probably was more thoroughly tested and edited and typically, both better to play and less likely to do something broken. That’s not to say that they were all fair – after all, the wizard was in the Player’s Handbook, – but there’s a tier system at work. Things in the Complete books were pretty solid and a reliable balance point to one another. Things in the Dungeon Master’s Guide were ‘safe’ and definitely worked, but also didn’t tend to push the game boundaries very hard. Setting books had their own problems, so things from the Forgotten Realms sourcebooks were probably stronger and a little more broken, and Eberron brought things that sat kind of between Forgotten Realms and Complete books. Then there’s Dragon magazine, which could be considered wholesale speculative options, and often either didn’t work, or were wildly unrepresentative of the rest of the game.
With that in mind, I’m trying to focus on things from the printed sourcebooks. That does catch us the 3.0 prestige class the Eunuch Warlock, which is both the only instance of a male-only prestige class in a printed book and also a class that explains that you need a lot of balls to take on the class’ prerequisites, but not for long.
There’s also the Swanmay, which is a woman-only prestige class, and that’s where we peter out without looking at Dragon magazine classes I never heard of and don’t care about and bonus, aren’t worth worrying about. It helps that Dragon Mgazine options tended to be bad in addition to being badly made.
Anyway, the place I wanted to wind up with is looking at a big list of data and looking for one specific thread of language: How often does the title of a prestige class gender it? And I mean explicitly gender it; the fact that cleric or bishop are terms we normally gender doesn’t make those gendered terms. You know a term is a gendered term in this context if it has a different gendered form or a neutral form that’s not being used. This creates a possible edge case, in the term of the word witch; I’m willing to accept that, certainly back in 3.5, there was a mindset of people thinking witch is a gendered term with the comparative term warlock, even if I disagree.
To that end, I got a big list and I started counting.
Then I slowly stopped counting as I realised the lopsided scope of the problem.
The word ‘lord’ is used in about 15 classes, ignoring its part in the compound word ‘warlord.’ ‘Master’ is somewhere in the district of a hundred uses. ‘Bowman’ even shows up once. And in all that, I found that ‘witch’ showed up four times, ‘queen’ showed up once, and my favourite of all of them, we got one explicitly femme-gendered exotic word: incantatrix.
None of this is surprising or weird. It’s pretty much to be expected. And it’s cool that we get to now, do a better job with this kind of thing.
Check it out on PRESS.exe to see it with images and links!

trick or treat for bardic, who doesn't have a tumblr account:
I know you've read salvage or repair, so you already know Crowbar and Yuma!! here's a little bit from after the end of that fic, with the two of them having a conversation about governor modules (Niri is also there)
---
She frowns. “That automatic shutdown, you mean? That tried to keep me from tampering with proprietary tech?” Niri and Crowbar exchange a startled glance. Crowbar sighs, and gives her a rueful smile. “I wondered if you knew what you did.” “Why? What?” “Yuma, the governor module was more than just an automatic shutdown,” it says gently. “How much do you really know about SecUnits?” “Next to nothing, before they brought you in the box,” she admits. “People said there were SecUnits in the mines, but no one ever came back from the mines to tell about them. They said you were machines that were used to keep order.” There had been plenty of horrible rumors about what happened in the mines. SecUnits had featured in some of them, but they’d only been a part of the nightmare, and Yuma had never paid those stories much mind. “Yes. We’re used for other things other places, but in the mines they used us as enforcers to keep workers in line.” Crowbar takes a breath and makes a gesture as if waving the thought away. “They had to keep us in line somehow, too. We’re stronger and faster than humans. If we decided to stop following orders, we’d be a threat.” She doesn’t like where this is going. “How did they keep you in line?” “The governor module.” Crowbar’s voice is still gentle, but solemn. “It monitors what we do. You saw the software.” “Nastiest piece of code I’ve ever seen,” Yuma agrees, remembering the iron-clad defenses she had to break through and the tendrils that locked onto every other system like a parasite. Crowbar nods. “There’s hardware too. In our heads. If we don’t follow orders, or break the protocols that have been set for us, we’re punished with electric shocks.” It says it so matter-of-factly, and then pauses, watching her reaction. She spends a long moment waiting for more, grasping for a less horrible way to fit the pieces together. “In your head?” she repeats. “Yes.” “That—that must hurt,” she says, even knowing that hurting is the point. “It does.” “But not anymore?” she asks, struck by a new wave of concern. “It’s stopped, right? Since I—” “Since you hacked it. Yes. It doesn’t work anymore.” “Void above and below. I—” She presses a hand to her mouth. “I thought all I did was give you a crowbar and a crate and ship you somewhere a little less terrible.” “No,” Crowbar says. “You freed me. You handed me control over myself for the first time in my life.” It sits back, and allows a smile to break the serious look on its face. “That’s why I came back for you.”

It wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card that I’d draw V again. Anyway I’ll go ahead ramble in the tags
#devil may cry 5#dmc5#dmc v#so I’ve replayed dmc5 a stupid amount of times since March#but to be fair it’s a very short game#but I’ve developed a hobby of trying to connect dots between v and Vergil#cuz the detail is actually so good#for instance even how he holds the cane is similar to how he handles Yamato#his expressions are so alike but it’s not obvious#but then I thought#why is vergil’s humanity some dweeb who is like 20 something#he is like closest age wise to his dmc3 version#(this has probably been answered but I wanted to figure it out myself)#then I remembered the line from v about how his humanity has finally returned#so has it been subdued and dormant ever since he got imprisoned by mundus#and is that why his humanity resembles his younger self#cuz the human vulnerable side of him has been dead#this is the only edition of Vergil I won’t drop kick on sight#human v is a dork ass goth who has a soft squishy heart#and he can’t even kill his brother who he hates so much when given the chance#UUUGGHHHHHHHHHH#don’t even get me started about the ordeal with Nero#v tried so hard to just see him as a tool but he knows that wasn’t the case

In the end he fled in a self imposed exile, never to return again. Indeed, he strays as far away from the Empire as he can while trying to maintain some manner of routine. The combat skills his father had forced him to learn finally became useful, and with the name “Evan Frostlake” he introduces himself to people as something of a wandering sellsword. Whether you need a monster killed, a letter delivered or even just someone to look after your children for a while, Evan will do anything in exchange for money or food and a roof for the night.

Decided to try drawing with a pen and sketch Nijideer but centaur-like + other doodles

#bocchi the rock!#bocchi the rock#my art#traditional art#been a while since I drew with a pen instead of a pencil sketch (๑•﹏•) but it's kinda fun#btw I didn't come up with centaur-like Nijideer idea. I saw someone drew a fanart of it on twt and decided to draw my own version#tho I drew this without a reference so excuse the inaccurate animal anatomy 😅#also I've been watching those weird Nijideer and other BTR edits and it's so chaotic and hilarious! Which may have inspired these doodles#so there's 伊地知ニジカ(Nijideer) / ゴートひとり(Hitori Goat-o) / ラム田リョウ(Ryo Ram-ada) but idk what animal Kita's supposed to be#from that one video I watched I think she's some sort of fish? I just couldn't get the pun: 喜タイク代#anyways the creachur next to bocchinoko is supposed to be Nijika as that character she likes so much.. y'know that duck bird thing 🐥#and then some random Nijicat & Dogchi cuz I feel like it...which come think of it is probably the first boniji sketch I posted#I did drew them before but it's all lazy sketches. I wanna draw a decent bnj fanart ><❗

Quahaug Concept Art

Quahaug's concept/reference art! Translation notes and image id under the cut.
Translation notes:
"OP sort of powerset" was literally translated as something like "cheat-like." I feel like OP is the more common English term for that sort of thing, so that's what I used, but some of the meaning was probably lost there.
"Older-tween-ish" was specifically a reference to a particular middle school year for children who are about 12-13 years old. Since grades and names of grades vary a lot from country to country, I just went with "older tween."
ID:
[Image id: Several images displaying different parts of 2 pages of the Triangle Strategy artbook, with both the original Japanese as well as versions with English translations. There are several disclaimers noting that the translator doesn't speak Japanese, and that there are likely many mistakes.
On one page, there is a large colored version of Quahaug's canon portrait, along with a smaller, uncolored version. There is an illustrator's note at the bottom that translates to read, "'Manipulating time' is an OP sort of powerset, so though he looks like a child, I aimed to create a look for him that conveyed a sense of unknowable power. (Tatsuaki Urushibara)".
On the second page, there are many drawings of Quahaug, including a closer bust-up portrait in which he's compared to Lyla, with an arrow and label reading, "Mother." There's also several notes that explain the construction of his costume. The costume is labeled as a Greek "phelonion" (a priest's outfit with no real sleeves, just draping fabric). There is a small drawing of this version, with an arrow leading to another drawing that does have sleeves, with the note, "If you can't display this in pixels, use this one." There are several notes that explain how this draping cloth should be considered his everyday clothes, while the ceremonial decoration that goes around his neck is placed over it. There is a close up of the ceremonial dressing's fastenings underneath the metal decoration. Some more notes highlight details on his staff, emphasizing the hourglass on top and the small wheel to the side that can be turned to flip the hourglass. A larger piece of text underneath one fullbody drawing reads, "Character Who Manipulates Time."
On the second half of the second page, there are drawings of some beta designs for Quahaug. He looks much more punk-ish. On one bust-up portrait, there are the captions, "The burden of the time demon caused some of his hair to go gray…." and "All-natural highlighted tips." On the same portrait, he is snapping his fingers, and there's a note that reads, "Manipulating time is as easy as snapping your fingers. You just have to want it or whatever." A speech bubble near his head reads, "I don't think of Anna as a mother." A caption pointing to some green markings on his arm reads, "Demonic time seal on body." In a fullbody drawing of his beta design (which is made up mostly of chains that barely cover him as well as a long roughed-up cloak, there is the note, "Almost naked cloak."
At the bottom of the second page, there is another note that reads, "Initially when we hadn't quite figured out the setting, we had an idea for a more older-tween-ish character as displayed here, but after discussing it with the producers and Mr. Ikushima, we went with his current form. As a boy who manipulates time, I placed an hourglass at the tip of his staff, and his face resembles that of his mother, Lyla. (Tatsuaki Irushibara)". /end id]
#triangle strategy#quahaug#lyla viscraft#triangle strategy artbook#ts artbook character ref sheets#at long last. emo quahuag#despite the WTF factor I really love the page. HE'S SO LITTLE. SO SO LITTLE. like in his canon portrait he could arguably be like 14-15#but in those drawings on the second page he is indisputably a baby. look at that little face. HE'S SO CUTE#and that note about Anna really cracks me up. can't believe we missed out on having Anna try to wrestle with an angsty 12-year-old#also! trying out a slightly different format from last time! I will at some point probably throw up another poll about it#as always feel free to leave a comment/tag/anything else with feedback if you have any#at some point in the distant future I will probably go through and try to make all of the translation posts more consistent#but I probably won't go back and do that sort of thing until I get all of them done#oh and also also! as a note I actually messed up my order a bit; I meant to do lyla's first before this one#but she and the other saints will be up next#edit: one of the images had an old version of a translation (used 'something' instead of 'whatever' in the note about snapping fingers)#just reuploaded it

Noticing that Im starting to desperately cling to things from my childhood and trying to remember what it was like to be a child.
Part of it is wanting to be a better person- I was so much more selfless and ambitious as a child.
But I wonder how much of it is me actually processing grief over childhood issues and trying to get a sense of control over things that I didn't have control on back then
#I've been repurchasing things from my childhood that got lost or burned/wrongfully taken from me#Some of these things were (At least nearly) irreplaceable#Like a toddler blanket that I LOVED. It was a limited edition given to me by my grandmother#and I searched for it for nearly 2 decades give or take just around my home#Before I remembered: It was probably burned#So I can never have the original that my grandmother gave me again#And It's been one of my Top Most Missed Childhood Items#But I found a version of it on Ebay one night. It cost me a little over 100 dollars but I got it back.#There is absolutely 0 guarantee that I'd have ever had another opportunity to get it#I do not regret it. It might not be my original but... it's better than not having it at all honestly.#merkerler speaks#(Other things are just straight up irreplaceable. My stuffed rabbit? Im never getting that back. I can't remember what brand it was#no one can.)#I got my original care bears back tho! They were just in storage!

Thinking of the people who followed me after "Moth and Emrys" or after the Friends to Accomplices first chapter or any of the writing projects I talked about but never finished like the "Design a Detective" thing which was pretty popular by this blog's standards. Like I teased y'all with my good-enough writing and interesting characters and then just never posted any writing again...
If I had the energy to revise and Actually Finish Things you guys would have so much more to read. Sorry that I've just been subjecting you to two sentence shitposts and occassional vents instead of what you actually followed me for. Hopefully you like that ig 💀
I think about 20% of my followers followed me for my writing, if you add it up across all the more notable writing-oriented posts.
#writing#blog meta#writing projects#moth and emrys#friends to accomplices#design a detective#<< tagging those for folks who might have forgot to unfollow the tags#this post would resonate with you#like 'yeah it's sheer forgetfulness that I'm still following you' or 'came for the writing stayed for the memes'#hal rambles#did you know that Friends to Accomplices is over 300000 words now?#Yeah that's a series and a series that probably needs to be trimmed at this point#It's good though (to me)#But y'all are getting none of it until I rewrite the first book that I originally wrote in highschool#The first chapter was a rewritten version#Some sections were almost entirely wholesale from the OG though because man that scene slaps#not saying which one though because it's actually a very insignificant scene i just love it for the characterization#Can't wait until I edit enough to post like. Chapter 20. Which you guys would LOVE#Another crowd would immediately be writing call-out posts though because it deals with some Issues#Not promoting them but it's kind of hard to tell because Philip POV.#But enough about my favorite WIP of all time#rambling over#oh and don't mind the colors i have very strong associations with these works lol

Y'all
Im not on tiktok and never have been, but I downloaded RedNote just to see what is up, and I am witnessing something truly amazing
The Chinese user community is giving the American tiktok refugees an overwhelmingly warm welcome, meanwhile the American users seem to have collectively agreed that not only will they not let the app be taken over with English and they will provide Mandarin subtitles for everything, they are LEARNING MANDARIN. Ive scrolled through so many videos of Americans offering greetings in Mandarin to try to acclimate to the new environment and be respectful, and speakers of both languages are posting lots of tutorials on language basics and internet slang in Mandarin
My God, there is an AMAZING outpouring of curiosity and delight among everyone to learn about each others cultures and daily lives. People are posting videos of landscapes, cities, towns, and natural areas in USA and China, posting recipes and traditional foods, vlogs of everyday life, and reaching out to find people with similar hobbies.
And it's not just young people! There are loads of videos from middle-aged American guys who have come to post about fishing or motorcycles and are now happily chatting with Chinese users sharing the same interests using Google translate
One American guy who was like. in his 60's had a comment on one of his videos that was like "Red Neck?" and he replied "Yes!" and I just about fucking lost it
Also the Chinese users love, and I mean LOVE, Luigi Mangione. He is apparently broadly adored in China. There is SO much fanart and SO many edits.
There are many threads initiating Chinese users to ask questions of American users about the USA, and vice versa, and everyone on both sides is clearing up a lot of misconceptions. Some of the questions I saw a lot from Chinese users were: "Is it true that American parents kick you out of the house as soon as you turn 18" (not often, but sometimes) "Do you all really wear shoes in bed" (NO!!! Apparently a lot of characters in American sitcoms are shown lying in bed with shoes on which I never noticed before!) and "are there really guns everywhere" (yes).
For the most part Chinese content creators seem just overwhelmed by the sudden influx of hundreds of followers that are super enthusiastic about what they're doing. A lot of them have made posts about how initially they thought the uptick in follower count was some kind of error, or that there was some kind of joke or prank, but then they realized the interest and enthusiasm was genuine and now they're welcoming all the newcomers.
I found several posts by Chinese users saying that this felt like a really profound historical moment, where these previously separated worlds are suddenly smashing together and suddenly there is freedom to learn about each other's cultures and connect. One of them said something along the lines of "This is a 21st century Tower of Babel and even though I'm an atheist I hope God lets this tower stand." OUGH MY HEART.
The app itself works a little bit like a video-based version of Pinterest. It's not really my thing so I probably won't be on there long term but it's been amazing to see what's happening.

Happy to report I reread my Grief Fic™ and I still think it's good.
#this slaps actually#I don't say that about things I create very often. but that one was truly my...whatever the small version of 'magnum opus' is.#*sigh* I am. still mad at the show. both for the expected reasons and some reasons that are probably unique to me.#but making stuff for it HAS helped me in many ways. and despite my constant laments of how hard writing is. it HAS brought me joy.#man...this means I need to suck it up and finish my stuff doesn't it#maybe I DO just need to call it 'done' the moment I find something that even remotely works#because it's probably...90% done now?#there are some minor edits that I'm not really counting because those are easy enough#but the DIFFICULT PART (i.e. filling in the small blanks that are left & yet ANOTHER transition paragraph I discovered I need to figure out#is 90% of the way there. I AM however. free from Appointments™ and Tasks™ today so I am going to the library.#and I am Writing™.#and then I am rewarding myself with A Snack.#:)

ayo this pretty cool

[id: active style manual wheelchair with frame made of rectangle wood planks screwed together. end id]
as we know active type wheelchair very expensive, & repair need buy from specific medical manufacturer n take very long time. someone (who wheelchair user themself of near 40 years) made open source active manual wheelchair where most (if not all?) material from commercial easy get materials! wood, plastic, pvc pipe, & those commercial aluminum square pipe things. n they put guide made them yourself in link for anyone want try make
this video from their instagram show their wood frame wheelchair actually pretty durable, include clip from everyday use & even drop wheelchair all over place (basically imagine what airline do to them…) - n wheelchair stay in tact! n even if some part break - it easy change because wood planks all screwed together so you just buy wood plank & unscrew & rescrew.
not great for people w advanced seating positioning needs probably (think if only problem is easy butt pressure sore, maybe can still use this + supportive cushion but think beyond that it get hard). but if like you don’t need those things then maybe fun project?
have not use for self so can’t actually talk about experience but it look pretty cool
edit: reblog this version instead

Lets talk about some of the new changes happening with the remastered version of OFF!!! (LETS FUCKING GOOOOO!!!!!)
All this info is from the Mortis Ghost stream he made talking about the game!
There's now a respawn function! When you die, it gives you an option to start back at the room you originally died in
There's now a hint button you can press when you're unsure what to do next or if a puzzle is a little too hard
Updated animations/sprites (footstep trails! ladder animation!)
New main menu screen!
Zacharie's shop menu is also new!
New things are in the game that can't be shown yet, but here's some info we are allowed to know about;
Battle system has been reworked, more balanced and more fun
There will be more announcements in the future about the development of the game!
They no longer have the rights to the OG music + soundtrack so they have to remake it all for this version
The original game will forever be free and the original soundtrack will stay on that version too
New content including new secrets, new bosses, new areas and more!
Will release in English and French at first and will later get a Japanese version at another date
Could (probably) have Steam achievements though he's unsure
Some new lore is being added in the comic book that's only available in the Switch Collector's Edition
EDIT:
I'm a fool that didn't post the links-- Here's the stream vod! The Twitter trailer! And here's the website that talks more about the remaster, including where to wishlist it on Steam and more info on the Switch version!

I had this idea while watching CM i just know you’re THE person to ask!! So i’m picturing established relationship with later seasons Reid and reader sees a pic of early seasons maybe his FBI badge or smth ? And she’s like gosh i wish i met you sooner and Spencer thinks she wouldn’t have liked him back then and she’s like bitch ???? i have this feeling that people started to find him more attractive after the prison trauma and i just want to give some love to early seasons reid like baby i would have smashed u in season 1
badge — spencer reid
pairing: spencer reid x fem!reader ( no use of y/n ) content warnings: established relationship, post!prison spencer a/n: hii !! loved this idea sooo much <3 because yes ! i would've literally thrown myself at s1 spencer
Spring cleaning.
It was something you had insisted on, and Spencer was reluctantly going along with it. You loved his apartment, with its cozy clutter and towering bookshelves, but there was a fine line between charmingly lived-in and needing intervention. Currently, you were seated cross-legged on the floor beside one of his many bookshelves, sorting through stacks of old files, loose papers, and, of course, more books than any one person could reasonably own.
Spencer was across from you, carefully removing each book from the lower shelf so he could dust beneath them.
You pulled out a well-worn novel, only to find four more identical copies tucked behind it. You held one up, raising an eyebrow. “Why do you have five different versions of the same book?”
Spencer barely glanced up from his task as he answered, “They’re all different special editions. That one—” He gestured vaguely toward the book in your hand. “—has annotations from the original editor. The one next to it has a foreword by a critic I like, and the third has alternate chapter endings that were cut from the final draft.”
You shook your head, amused. Only Spencer would need multiple copies of the same book. Flipping through the pages, you noticed scribbled notes in the margins.
“I haven’t read that one in ages,” Spencer admitted, suddenly abandoning his dusting to scoot closer to you. His knee bumped against yours as he leaned in, his fingers gently taking the book from your hands. He opened it to a random page, and his expression softened as he traced his old annotations with his fingertip.
A small, nostalgic smile tugged at his lips.
You watched him. His hair had fallen into his face again, obscuring his eyes as he focused on the text. You reached out, brushing the unruly strands behind his ear. He barely seemed to notice, too absorbed in the book, but his free hand caught yours, lifting it to his lips to press a quick, absentminded kiss to your knuckles before returning to his reading.
You bit back a laugh.
Of course.
You had come here to clean, and now Spencer was going to reread an entire novel instead. By the time you finished unloading the second shelf, he’d probably be done with it. You reached for a file that had been tucked between stacks of books on the second shelf. Curious, you opened it slowly, peeling back the cover to reveal its contents and then you froze.
"Oh my god."
Spencer, still absorbed in his book, didn’t even glance up as you carefully pulled out what you’d just discovered.
His old FBI badge.
You stared at it, lips parting in amusement. The photo showed a younger Spencer, his hair meticulously gelled to the side, so much more tamed than the unruly curls he had now. It was shorter, too, neatly styled in a way that looked almost foreign compared to the man currently sitting on the floor beside you, lost in his reading.
You didn’t even realize Spencer had finished his book until you felt the faint tickle of his hair against your cheek as he leaned over your shoulder, peering at what you were holding.
“What are you looking at?” he asked, voice warm.
You grinned, twisting to face him as you held up the badge. “Your old FBI badge.”
Spencer blinked at it for a second, processing, before his eyes widened slightly. “Give me that,” he said immediately, reaching for it but you’d predicted that reaction, and you yanked it out of his reach with a laugh. He didn’t even try to fight you for it, just slumped back with a sigh, though the faint pink tinge creeping up his neck betrayed his embarrassment.
“You looked so cute,” you teased, scooting backward just enough to keep the badge safely away. But Spencer wasn’t having it. In one swift motion, he hooked his hands around your ankles and dragged you forward until you were knee-to-knee with him again.
"No, I didn’t," Spencer insisted as he stared at the badge held between you.
"You totally did," you grinned, tracing the edge of the picture with your fingertip. Spencer had stopped looking at the badge entirely, his gaze instead fixed on you, the way your lips curled in amusement, the softness in your expression as you studied him.
"Your lips are still all pouty and pink," you murmured, tapping the photo where his mouth was set in a firm, professional line. Then you glanced up, only to find real Spencer mirroring the expression, his own lips slightly pursed.
"See?" you teased, meeting his eyes.
Spencer shook his head, but there was no real annoyance in it, just fond exasperation. "I wish I’d met you sooner," you said softly, your thumb brushing over the badge before your gaze flickered down for a second.
He stared at you like you’d just spoken in riddles. "You wouldn’t have liked me back then," he muttered.
Now it was your turn to look at him in disbelief. "Spencer, you look adorable," you insisted, holding the badge up again for emphasis.
"Adorable," he repeated flatly, as if that only proved his point, like adorable was code for not worth liking.
So you doubled down. "Attractive. Handsome. Pretty. Hot," you added, each word punctuated with a pointed look. That finally cracked him. A smile tugged at his lips, and he shook his head, but his ears had gone pink.
"Spencer," you pressed, bumping your knee against his, "there’s no way I would’ve missed out on that." You jabbed your finger at the photo for good measure.
He chuckled, finally tearing his gaze away from the badge to focus on you instead. His fingers brushed a loose strand of hair behind your ear, his touch lingering just a second too long to be casual.
"Don’t deflect," you accused, pointing a finger at him.
"I’m not deflecting, I’m reprioritizing," he countered, but the way his thumb traced your jawline betrayed him.
You pouted, hard, and Spencer’s eyes flickered down to your lips like he was physically restraining himself from kissing the expression right off your face. (Which, given the way his fingers twitched against your skin, he absolutely was.)
"I’m serious, Spencer," you insisted. "I would’ve literally asked you out the first second I saw you."
Spencer raised an eyebrow. "You stuttered for six seconds straight when I asked you out," he reminded you, grinning when your mouth fell open in embarassement.
"That—! That was different!" you spluttered, swatting at his shoulder. "You caught me off guard!"
"Mm-hmm." His grin widened.
"Point is—" You waved the badge between you like a white flag, refusing to let him derail you further. "—I would’ve adored you, Spencer. Any version of you."
Your voice softened at the end, and just like that, his teasing expression melted. He exhaled a laugh, shaking his head like he still didn’t quite believe you, but when he leaned in to press his lips to your forehead, the badge forgotten between you, it was answer enough.
(And if he stole the badge back when you were distracted by his smile? Well. You’d let him have that one.)

Nothing to make you realize how WEIRD the Deadpool and Wolverine movie is like writing things from the Worst Wolverine’s perspective.
Dude does NOTTT KNOW WADE’S NAME!!! UNTILL THEY LAND ON THE CAR BACK AT WADES UNIVERSE AT THE END!!! HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW HE WAS DEADPOOL UNTIL CASSANDRA SAID SHIT ABOUT IT!!!
He literally was just sitting in a bar, then this guy comes who wants him for what Logan probably assumes is sex or murder. And Logan is so fucking starved and desperate for attention of any sort that he just lets Deadpool kidnapp him???
Then bro PRETENDS TO BE ASLEEP ON THE FLOOR OF AN OFFICE?? Like he’s probably thinking “I expected a bedroom, a basement, or a prison… huh” AND THEN HE IS OVERHEARING SHIT ABOUT SOME MF TIME LINE GOING TO SHIT AND HOW HE IS THE WORST VERSION OF HIMSELF????
Then his alarm bells start to go off and he just fights everything that’s close to him for a bit out of fear and confusion. But then later FOR SOME REASON DECIDES TO WORK WITH THE PERSON WHO KIDNAPPED HIM (granted he did promise him he could fix his timeline but still)??
He decided to work with him after Deadpool’s dick was HARD against him in that mad max-y vehicle. Well technically he also decided to tolerate him saying “I alone control her” but still. Bro went from desperate to live through this weird shit to living with his kidnapper…
No wonder they compared them to beauty and the beast at Disney World.
This is literally… dude, this Logan is so fucking desperate oh my gosh, it’s almost comical.
EDIT: Apparently Johnny says “that’s right Wade!” At the end credits scene meaning that Logan knew since the first car ride. Day only slightly ruined because that still is fucking insane of Logan to do.
#he probably assumed it was the same Wade he knew after they met nicepool#but I doubt that kicked in right away#deadpool and wolverine#wolverine#logan howlett#poolverine#deadpool

Fun Karlach things revealed from party banter/dialogue/cutscenes (these are all 100% canonical to any run, as they are her talking about her past, these all appear in naturally accessable in-game dialogue):
She can touch demons and devils and other infernal creatures without hurting them, but opted not to in those ten years in Avernus as she says she's "not a masochist."*
She has had numerous past relationships, sexual in nature, which she describes as "quick to flare and quick to fade."
She says she was still sorting out "jumping into bed with anything with a pulse" and looking for more long-term relationships when she was sent to Avernus.
There are other infernal creatures running around with infernal engines in them but she thinks she's the only one from Faerun who survived the process (she knows others were tried but didn't make it.)
Loves a good bar fight/brawl (obvious but still cute.)
Likes walking around barefoot in the grass (which she calls "grassing", and she enjoys a good "frolic".)
Isn't keen to travel by boat down the Chionthar (from Moonrise) as her mum said the river was unlucky.
Liked to go swimming as a kid (presumably still does - after she's temperature corrected. Prior to that she mentions fear of boiling fish and her friends alive.)
Worries about being out of date, fashion wise, having been gone from Baulder's Gate for ten years.
Her mother's name is Caerlach (pronounced same as her daughter), and her father's name is Pluck. Their last name, Cliffgate, is the same as one of the lower city entries in Baulder's Gate.
Her dad was a porter and her mom was a laundress. They were poor but loving and fun.
They were poor but NOT destitute - Karlach mentions their household multiple times, and having her friends visit her family in their home. She also went to school (teasing that she'll cheer up Gale by saying she hasn't read "since school").**
When she was a teen her mom passed from illness during a plague when the family couldn't afford a healer quickly enough. Her dad passed a few years after when he was crushed by his own overturned cart on the road.
EDIT: This has been patched in later versions of the game - she does not mention her parents anymore fixing that inconsistency. There's some discrepancy about when she started working for Gortash, in the cemetery she says her parents would have seen him for who he was (implying she did not spend much if any time around him prior to their deaths). In the shadow lands she mentions he 'got his claws into her early' and that she earned enough to help her family move into a better place in the city under his employ (it's entirely possible she's referring to moving their bodies post-mortem though).
She was a young adult (describes herself as 'not-quite-kid') while in Gortash's employ, worked for him for a good span of time, and spent 10 years in Avernus. This means she's likely well into her 30s by the time of game events.
She, to her own admission in her origin, loved Gortash, but also explains that it was not romantic in nature (stating distinctly to the player character "not like that"). She clearly looked up to him as her boss and was deeply betrayed when sold to Zariel.
She lived with her friend Fitz when working for Gortash, who also worked for him at the time. Gortash lied to everyone around her about what happened to her (saying that she moved away suddenly.)
She does note up on meeting Gortash's parents and finding out they sold him to a warlock that he's repeated the same cycle on her.***
Fun fact: "Carlach/Caerlach" in the IRL is a relatively rare Scottish surname likely derived from MacThearlaich ("son of Charles" - typical naming convention dating back to pre- Norman conquest Brittan). Karlach is a very rare spelling of the name and probably was further anglicization on immigration to America (showing up in the 1920s.) As Karlach's mother has the same name as her, spelled differently - one could infer that perhaps her family passed it down in a way that felt more "Bauldrian" to them or was in some way easier to spell.
*Because I've seen this wrong elsewhere - it's not the material plane that's making her untouchable, it's the engine itself. Her engine stops actively hurting her when Raphael teleports you to the House of Hope in Act I - but she's still not touchable without fixing based on this dialogue.
**I've also seen this wrong - Karlach was never an orphaned street urchin and I don't know where people get this impression. Gortash did not "take her in" or mentor her, he was very clearly her boss, albeit one she was friends with and looked up to.
***She does not mean this as a literal one for one, of course, just that someone she trusted sold her to an infernal for his own gain.
#bg3#baulders gate 3#Karlach#please... please engage with the source material#I've seen sone truly awful takes recently that just show... no knowledge of the actual game
