unpopular opinion for a rarepair again (not sorry) but I’m kinda sad more people don’t explore how wrong Jim’s is when it comes to Edward.

Jim Gordon wasn’t Edward’s friend. Never once did he ever show anything more than the niceness you’d carry for your acquaintances or coworkers to Ed. Never once does he try to stop bullock’s (who is bullying Edward for ableist reasons and is Jim Gordon’s closest friend mind you) bullying of Ed, let alone anyone’s else bullying of Ed. Like guys the ableism it’s right there and he didn’t do shit please please please…. To Jim, ed is just a guy pre finding out he’s genuinely insane. He’s just a guy who helps him and is kinda a bit too weird for him to want to hang out with for long, but still just a guy. A guy to just use a bit of and then leave behind because the cons of hanging around him for too long for too much. He’s doesn’t have strong feelings for Ed ever really and gets confused by Ed being attached to him for basic human kindness. It’s so one sided it makes me wanna pull my teeth out.

Its one sided nature makes him now suddenly switching gears and claiming he and Ed were friends IS what makes it so tragic to me!!!! They were not friends!!! This is just a lie Jim is telling himself in order to avoid responsibility. He’s twisting what really happened between their brief interactions in order to avoid any slight accountability for Ed becoming like this. Even despite Ed being basically in a psychotic break when he was point that gun at Jim, he was ultimately right about their dynamic. And Jim can’t accept that.

Also we both know season one Ed wasn’t the soft meek angel Jim paints him as now due to guilt. No the fact he wasn’t Jim fell for the facade. Ed has always been his narcissistic snooty insecure self he just had to hide it from everyone in season one in order to be safe. We literally see his ego leak out and show itself multiple times(Kristen interactions, the fucking hands in the locker incident, him smirking when it came to bullock having his shift before Jim’s, you get the point). While it is important to acknowledge season one Ed is very much insecure which Jim gets right, he never truly understood Ed.

like guys why can’t we just ship two egoistical men together that’s so fun. They weren’t friends before this entire dynamic happened because Jim got curious. Sure Ed could have a one sided crush on Jim in season one that makes sense but idk it feels exteremly important narratively for Jim to NOT CARE for Ed back then and let his bullying completely slide. Like please guys see the vision
