Ok the amount of poems and songs that are now associated with Wilbur; we’ve got the myth of Icarus, the Icarus laughed as he fell poem and all the ones like it, eight by sleeping at last, and now the Ozymandius poem-
This man is a program oral interp. piece and to those who understand what that is marry me now

Okay, Okay, but hear me out... Owl House Speech and Debate AU.
There are A LOT of Speech and Debate terms/events in here, that most people who aren’t in speech and debate won’t know,so I am gonna make a quick glossary.
Humorous Interpretation: An Acting Event specifically for comedy.
Original Oratory: A speech that a person writes, can be about anything, usually used to comment on injustices and world events.
Dramatic Interpretation: An acting event but for drama.
Informative: You basically give a lecture about whatever for 10 minutes.
Program of Oral Interpretation: You weave together literature to create your own story that you act out.
Prose: You read prose
Poetry: You read poetry.
Lincoln Douglas: 1 v 1 debate
Public Forum: 2 v 2 debate
World Schools: 5 v 5 debate
Duo: Acting with 2 people but they can’t touch or look at each other
Duet: acting with 2 people that can touch and look at each other + they have a chair.
Double cross: When you are entered in 2 or more events at the same time.
Okay, that done? Into the AU.
Luz is a speech kid, and does Humorous Interpretation AND Original Oratory, but she only does OO because she wants to talk about Azura and her whole speech is probably about representation in media.
Amity is a debate kid, she does Lincoln Douglas debate and SOMETIMES does Public Forum but it’s only to impress the debate coach and she really doesn’t like it.
Gus is a little prodigy kid that seems to be great at everything. He does Humorous Interp like Luz, but also does Dramatic Interp, informative , Program of Oral Interp, and he does World School Debate
Gus finds himself running around a lot at tournaments. He is ALWAYS double crossed.
Willow does Prose and Poetry. She is the kind of person that either get 1st or 6th, never in between. She really doesn’t care about trophies though, and mostly joined Speech and Debate for the Good Friends and Good Vibes.
Edric and Emira do Duo and Duet. Their duos are always dramatic AF but their Duets are always comedic AF. They always make it to State with both these events, and have constantly made it to Nationals since sophomore year.
Eda is the theatre teacher which Luz constantly goes too for acting advice.
Luz doesn’t understand why other Speech kids don’t get help from Eda. ((It’s cause they are scared of her))
Lilith is the Head of the School Board and used to be a national level debater. She knew Amity’s father and he hired her to coach Amity.
Amity’s father is a big name Politician and wants Amity to carry on the families political name. He believes getting recognized for her debate skills can help with that.
While Amity likes debating, she really wants to start making friends and wants to try world schools, but her father won’t let her.
Luz, being new, one day asks Amity if she wants to do a Duet with her.
Amity rejects it, of course, but Luz playfully bothers her for like a whole semester.
Finally, after already qualifying for state. Amity decides to say yes before the last tournament of the season.
There is a whole sub-plot going on about how Gus is low key salty Luz never asked him, because he thinks they could have been HILARIOUS together, but he moves on.
they decide to do the Good Witch Azura Musical, because they both like the book so much.
Amity has to try surprisingly hard to hide the fact that she is doing an acting event from her father, ((Especially because she should be preparing for National Qualifiers))
Finally the last tournament comes and Luz and Amity do their thing. Amity doesn’t really think they will do that well, but they keep breaking till finally they make it to finals.
Surprise! They get 1st.
The coach basically begs them to take this to the National Qualifying Tournament, because everyone loved it and they think that they could honestly go far with this piece.
Amity freaks out because she really did like it, but if her father found out he would freak.
So she sulks in the bathroom.
Willow finds her and asks what’s wrong.
Amity spills a bit too much of her own tea. Also finds herself apologizing for being rude to Willow.
Willow, being the saint she is, gives Amity advice and basically says to tell her dad that they just need a filler contestant.
Amity is like “Oh dang that’s smart” and rolls with that.
So now she is doing both LD and Duet. Her LD/PF friends are kinda judging her for hanging out with the weird speech kid that won’t shut up about Azura.
Amity just says it’s to get on Coaches good side but really it’s cause she finds it fun.
I’m gonna cap it here. If you like this AU I will probably make more of these OR just write a fic. One of the two. Also, the five speech and debate kids that are on this fandom are probably the only ones that will like this AU, but honestly, I don’t care cause I think this is a fun idea. Also Also, feel free to add on.

what did you do in speech?
i’m gonna cry!!!! i’m going to put this under a cut so i can ramble without being a bother <3 ( even if you don’t want to read all of this, i still reccomend you watch the videos i linked ! )
before i start talking, speech is my favorite thing in the whole goddamn world. it helped me stop smoking cirgarettes, it helped me do more than just sleep, it helped me make friends, it helped me get out of my shell. it made me a better person & I could tell you so many stories about speech I cry over speech a lot because it means so DAMN much to me. i’m graduated & i’m going back to that hellhole of a school just to help coach the team that I loved so goddamn much during my time on it.
but what I did were interpretive events; i started out with prose, poetry & poi ( programmed oral itnerp ) & I placed really well in those events but onli poi had the potential to go to nationals & it only started qualifying this year. so instead, I took up two events called HI ( humorous interp ) & DI ( dramatic interp )
these events are like taking your own 10 minute play, but you’re every single character. you get no props, no one else to perform with & it’s all on you. HI is doing a humorous piece; it usually involves very eccentric characters, a lot of different voices & a lot ( & i mean a lot ) of movement. if you’re not sweating by the end of an HI, you’re not doing it right. the humor that almost got me to nations was called camp sunshine! it was honestly one of my favorite pieces i’ve ever done. it was about a girl’s first year at bible camp & what happens throughout it… it didn’t have many characters ( which i think was what landed me in third instead of first or second ) but the characters were very very fun to play! i got to play lucielle, the whiny girl writing letters to her parents. Gloria, the overly enthusiastic camp social director ( i actually learned a lot of sign language to play her & that was my favorite thing )… & then my favorite. uncle ernie. he was a drill sargent-esque athletics director! i don’t have any videos of my performance of this piece, but i can give you some examples of other HI’s !!!!
BUBBLE BOY
FAT KIDS ON FIRE
NOW MY DI. oh my god, this piece helped me grow as an actress on so many levels. i got to perform a cutting i made myself from nikki sixx’s book, the heroin diaries… i was inspired by someone who went to nationals with this piece & performed it so beautifully & truthfully to the content he used & i was inspired. i got to play a man in the bottom of the pit of addiction. this was very personal to me since both of my parents are addicts & it was what eventually killed my mother… & i wanted to faithfully represent what an addict was. i got to take people through this character’s journey up until i ended it with him to his gun to his head & tears running down his face. this piece will always be very dear to my heart & i actually used it as a monologue for an audition. i don’t have any videos of this either, but god i wish i do… here are a few examples of DI, though. they’re really impressive & inspiring to me
THE HEROIN DIARIES ( the piece that inspired me & honestly drew me out of the depression following my mother’s death ) tw; addiction, tw; suicide
NOT A GENUINE BLACK MAN tw; racism
#➦╎ ▸DO A FLIP !!!◂ ooc. ╎#➦╎ ▸friendly neighborhood spiderman◂ answered. ╎#this is so important to me???#thank you so much for showing an interest in what i do#i spent so much time & energy#& i've put so many tears into this#i appreciate you showing any kind of interest ?#it really means a lot to me#i would stay after school for hours upon hours trying to get my pieces just right#i wasnt ever naturally gifted#so i had to work at what i was capable of#& it was so satisfying when i got first place because i worked#it was so satisfying when i placed at all because i worked#i don't know im just really emotional#so#thank you#i wish there was more i could say but i really do mean it#thank you.

les amis speech & debate
Combeferre & Enjolras: Policy Debate partners, obviously. They'd be the ultra-fast, technical types who absolutely dominate the Tournament of Champions circuit. Their affirmative strategy is usually straight policy and you've never seen anyone give a 1AR with more deadly efficiency than Enj, but you know 2N Ferre is always ready to whip out the K and talks about deontology in real life more than a normal person should.
Marius & Courfeyrac: Duo partners. They’ve argued a lot over the course of their partnership because Marius prefers dramatic pieces while Courf like humorous ones, but they stick together because they have fantastic chemistry and get along so well both as partners and as friends. They piece they ended up taking to NSDA Nationals was both dramatic and humorous, a compromise that suited both of them.
Grantaire: Lincoln-Douglas. A long debate about moral questions where he doesn't need to cooperate with a partner? You know he's in. Can be fast and technical when he needs to, but he's also definitely the asshole who reminds his opponents constantly that "this isn't policy." Very talented and could be of TOC caliber if he wanted to, but he prefers the more laid back local circuit. Enjolras, of course, accuses him of wasting his potential by not seeking out more prestigious competition, but Grantaire has a lot of beef with what he calls the “elitist rat race” of TOC debate.
Jehan: Program Oral Interp, and they're unbelievably good at it. In an activity that typically uses modern pieces, they pick up the 1 left and right by standing out with archaic pieces that no one would understand if it weren't for their flawless performance. They regularly leave judges and audiences mesmerized.
Éponine: POI as well, but her style is very different from Jehan’s. She focuses explicitly on very personal and relevant issues like poverty, race, and gender, and she wouldn’t touch an archaic poem with a twenty-foot pole. Once a judge accused her on his ballot of deliberately putting together the most controversial and “special snowflake” piece she could without regard for the actual merit of any of the works she used. In response she cornered him as he left the tabroom to chew him out, with Bahorel behind her egging her on.
Cosette: Dramatic Interp. Like Éponine, she usually performs pieces about social issues that are personal and important to her. She has made it her mission to perform exclusively pieces written by women, a choice that she stands by firmly and does not regret even when it forces her to pass up something she otherwise likes.
Bahorel: Humorous Interp. He loves verbal humor - the more jokes the merrier, and he is the king of funny voices - but what he really loves about his event is any opportunity to perform stunts on stage. Judges and audiences go wild when they see this enormously muscular young man doing perfect splits, and that’s only the beginning of his vast repertoire of tricks.
Feuilly: International Extemp. Feuilly’s compassion extends well beyond the boundaries of his own country - and, more importantly for this event, so does his expertise. He has yet to draw a topic that he does not have an exhaustive knowledge of, which means that his biggest struggle is remembering to find and cite source names for information that he already knows by heart. He competes exclusively on the local circuit, not because he has no desire to go national but because going national is fucking expensive.
Bossuet and Joly: Public Forum Debate partners. Neither of them have quite the intensity that Policy demands but still love debate, so this shorter and slower form suits them perfectly. Bossuet, usually the first speaker, once gave an entire first constructive on the wrong side of the topic. They are the team that makes endless fun of Public Forum debaters’ faux-intellectualism and tendency to take themselves way too seriously, only to be regularly reminded that they are, in fact, Public Forum debaters themselves.
Musichetta: Original Oratory, and she is having none of the cliche topics that people usually speak on. Her speeches are always fresh and original, a quality that has won her a lot of favor among judges. She sometimes finds the degree of professionalism required to be a bit stifling; she would rather wear clothes that express her personality and speak in impassioned bursts than present calmly in a skirt and blazer. Still, she endures the respectability politics as a necessary evil that she must look past in order to compete successfully in the activity that she credits with allowing her to find her voice and learn how to use it.

az nsda circuit 411
ok so after all those fun anons broke my brain with weird events and happenings i’m just gonna do an introductory arizona circuit ...thing like how it works and what events we have kind of thing
the season is basically october - march with state and the national qualifer in march/april. there are usually like... 1 or 2 tournaments a month and most of them run friday-saturday. friday is debate only with congress beginning in the early morning and then debate debate beginning in the afternoon. saturday is debate outrounds and all speech rounds, and it usually is from 8 am- 7/8 pm.
events: humor interp (HI): funny 10 minute one person speech where you act out a book/movie/play consists of usually >3 characters, follows a plot
dramatic interp (DI): dramatic 10 minute one person speech where you act out a book/movie/play consists of usually 1 character, follows a plot usually “deep”
duo interp (DUO): can be any genre 10 minute 2 person speech where you act out a book/movie/play can consist of >2 characters, and interpers cannot look at or touch one another.
program oral interp (POI)- black book event where you combine >2 drama, prose, or poem about a similar topic/theme. usually forms an argument about a topical issue. 10 minutes, each piece is a different character, and you “weave” the pieces together
prose- black book event where you choose a book/novel/short story and cut it to 10 minutes- usually a mix of funny/sad, follows a plot, one character usually
poetry- black book event where you take a bunch of poems about a topic/theme and weave them together, 10 minutes.
duet act- 10 minute 2 person acting- provided with a table and chairs and you are allowed to look at/touch your partner. Each person is only allowed to be one character. for some reason there’s lots of kissing/slapping??
original oratory (OO)- 10 minute self written speech about an issue in todays society, usually has 3 parts- what issue is, personal story connecting to issue, and how to fix it
expository speaking (expos/info maybe?) - 10 minute self written speech about anything. I’ve seen soccer fans, magnets, love poems, and water as topics. Anything goes basically. You get a stand and boards (black poster boards with visual aids on them) to assist you speak
impromptu- i’m iffy on this on but you get 7 minutes total to plan and speak- you’re given a choice of 3 topics and you pick and speak about one
extemp- 3 current event topic questions, pick one then 30 minutes of planning/research with a laptop, then (i think) a 7 minute speech about it answering the question
then debate is lincoln-douglas, public forum, congress, and policy

I like your blog a lot but tbh I have no idea what it's about... enlighten me?
Thank you! Of course! (It’s my favorite thing ever)
It’s all about Forensics, or Speech and Debate as it’s more commonly known as.
Here’s a bunch more information because Forensics has enveloped my life.
In College Forensics (I never got the chance to compete in high school forensics) there are 4 different groupings of categories. These are: - Platform Speaking - Interpretation - Limited Preperation - Debate
Within these categories there are sub categories
Platform -Informative : a 10 minute memorized, self researched and written speech which purpose is to inform the audience on a recent (usually scientific) discovery. - Persuasive: 10 minute memorized, self researched and written speech which purpose is to persuade the audience in favor of a point on a recent event. - Communication Analysis: 10 minute memorized, self researched and written speech which purpose is to create a rhetoric of a communication device (like a speech, symbol, art, etc.) - Speech to Entertain: 10 minute memorized, self researched and written speech which purpose is to discuss a serious topic, but using humor as a vehicle
Interp - Prose Interp: A 10 minute interpretation of a piece of work that was written without the intention of being preformed (such as a novel, short story, etc.). - Dramatic Interp: A 10 minute interpretation of a piece of work that was written with the intention of being preformed (such as a play, movie, monologue, etc). - Poetry Interp: A 10 minute interpretation of multiple pieces of poetry that are stitched together to make an argument. - Program Oral Interp: A 10 minute interpretation of at least one prose piece, one dramatic piece and one poetry piece that are stitched together to make a point. - Duo Interp: A 10 minute interpretation of a piece of work, but preformed by two people who cannot look at or touch each other while preforming. - Reader’s Theatre: A 20 minute interpretation of a piece of work/pieces of work that carry across some sort of argument. Preformed by 3-12 people.
*Note: No props may be used besides for a black book that the performer may put their script in. The black book is used to give acknowledgement to the author of the piece.
LIMITED PREPARATION - Impromtu: The speaker is given a quote and has 2 minutes to prepare a 5 minute speech on the topic – only drawing from their own memory to create the speech. - Extemp: The speaker is given a research question and has 30 minutes to research and create a 7 minute speech giving facts and citing sources from trusted news outlets.
DEBATE Okay, there are a bunch of debate categories and I am very much a speech person. (I can never stress enough how much admiration I have for debaters). But if any debaters are reading this who have some time on their hands – I’d love proper descriptions on all of them!
——————–It is very much something one gets addicted to. I have very much found a second home among my forensics team. And even an amazing community of forensics people online.
If you ever get a chance to audition for a team, even if it “isn’t your thing”. I recommend it incredibly highly.

oh also i forgot to mention that AK also has expos (expository speaking) which idk if u have or not. but yeah the AK circuit is kinda wild and like i have no idea what forensics tumblr is talking abt half the time lmao. so like is poetry just like poetry recitation? also what are prose and radio and poi and like all the other stuff i mentioned?
yeah we have expos too!! with like,, boards about something informational right?
poetry here is where you pick a topic then find a handful of poems that relate and then smoosh them all together so it makes sense, like interweave them together so they kind of display the theme? you perform it out of a black binder (black book) and its kind of a prop?
POI stands for program oral interp and its kinda like poetry but with more places you can take from, you can incorporate news articles and short stories and all that also with a common theme this has a black book too
prose is the last black book event (my favorite) and you choose a book/novel/literature and cut it down to 10 minutes and perform it (usually in 1st person, its like you are telling a story
dec = declaration which was a trial event we had for a year where you recite a famous speech. that’s literally it.
im not quite sure about any of the other ones though
