Nintendo hates their most dedicated fans. They are a vengeful, hidebound, capricious, and litigious company. They have enough revenue to keep operating at current costs for literal decades yet they still refuse to let you play online without paying for the privilege. Their corporate culture is antithetical to their game design ethos of Family Fun.

Don't give them any money. Buy a Steam Deck and support to indie devs who are making equally Fun games without Nintendo's taint. There's tons of them and they're cheaper than those on the Switch.

One of my favourite parts about Toya’s unit outfit and general design post-third anniversary is the way his style changes as his character evolves.

At the start of the game his outfits were very heavily leaning into street fashion, and in some ways it seems like he’s just imitating Akito (the foundations of their outfits are very similar: layered jackets and hoodies). I think this reflects the way he followed Akito in chasing his dream despite initially not knowing much about it, just to get away from his father and classical music and immerse himself in something completely different. It’s a nice outfit, but ultimately there are aspects of it that don’t really suit him, as if he’s trying to cast away his history with classical music and present himself as an entirely new person.

His post third-anniversary unit outfit is still influenced by street fashion, since that’s the genre of the unit he belongs to, but there are also aspects of it that are uniquely “Toya-like” if that makes sense. The turtleneck and blazer style jacket definitely convey his personality a lot more truthfully. His other outfits in untrained cards also seem to have shifted to match this style change (of course he still wears street fashion because the genre is very dear to him). I think it’s interesting that this change to his design happens after the events of the story where Toya starts to learn to embrace himself and his history with music.

Thinking about young Esteban, weighing his formula 1 dream against a McDonald’s paycheck and very nearly finding the dream wanting. Thinking about young Esteban realizing that what he has above his peers is a willingness to suffer more than anyone else if that’s what it takes, and all he can do is pray that the suffering won’t last forever. Thinking about young Esteban in 2019, grinding shifts in the Mercedes simulator and trying to claw his way back on to the grid.

Thinking about Esteban who’s so happy nowadays, doing what he loves while surrounded by people who believe in him.

engineer doesn't get enough love on this blog considering how much I cannot express my devotion to him, so I’m working to fix that :) this is similar to what I did for damien but it took foreverr!! iswm lighting is so so pretty which makes it impossible to get right ;;u;; the saturation is really high and there's multiple light sources so in terms of rendering it, its like it was personally designed to leave me dead on the floor :))))) either way,, I'm happy with how it turned out!! he’s very prettie :))

the dynamic of demigods thinking which other demigod is the most powerful is always amusing to me because. like, we know the big 3 kids are all the most powerful. That's just a fact of their universe. And then we know nearly every character views Percy as the strongest demigod, and most people are very rightfully intimidated by him.

and you look at the powers of the Big 3 kids and there's Percy, but then you realize Nico is just kind of objectively more powerful than him but simply chooses to hang out in Percy's shadow like he's Percy's scary dog privileges. Like, the two of them are pretty equally capable of causing multiple different apocalypses. Nico just also has like four different instakill powers and it's not like he doesn't use them. He very much uses them! Not infrequently, even! And they don't seem to take a significant amount of energy from him! And other demigods are pretty intimidated by both of them! But Nico makes a conscious point to keep his cards close to his chest and not let on exactly how dangerous and scary he can be if he wants to. People are already scared enough of him without knowing anything about him and he doesn't like that. Percy doesn't think about that nearly as much, and so usually just goes in guns blazing and that's part of why he's considered a wildcard. And then Nico himself puts Percy on a pedestal, so those who do know more about Nico's abilities then presume Nico knows something they don't about Percy that implies Percy is even stronger than him.

And even on a meta level Nico's narrative role requires him to be functionally more powerful than Percy, because he very often serves the purpose of getting Percy out of situations he can't handle on his own. That's just part of his function as a character! But also narratively he can't overshadow Percy so he just takes a backseat of his own accord and that's very amusing to me.
