To everyone in the art community, please:
Tracing is effective. But only as a learning tool. Telling people "never trace" can be robbing them of methods that could have been effective to their learning process if they'd known about them.
The "art of using tracing" is a bit looked over, so I have five points:
(it's a long one)
1: AS A RULE OF THUMB, DO NOT POST/SHARE TRACED AND STOLEN ARTWORK. This is not only lying to anyone you show it to, if you're trying to come off as, "I'm so good, look at what I did," but most importantly, it's lying to yourself. You'll trick yourself into not needing to get any better, and you will stagnate if you start to rely on tracing as a form of stealing. If you come to realize that you are, you should stop using any tracing methods altogether to keep yourself from abusing it. It's a slippery slope for beginners, and a big reason why you’ll hear almost everyone echo that you just shouldn’t trace at all. The issue is that this ignores the ways that tracing can actually be good.
2: Tracing sets the stage for motor skills/hand-eye coordination. I've seen so many early-stage beginner artists get upset that the art that they make of their favorite character/oc is messy, or maybe they just don't even know what they want to draw and can’t "make themselves mindlessly doodle.” These early arists then become completely disheartened and upset, especially if they start to look at other people for comparison. Tracing over work or even over photos is a way to train your hand to hold and wield a pencil/stylus properly without you being worried about the finished product. Think of it like a way to dip your toe into learning the process of what making art feels like, without having to get overwhelmed with searching up pointers and people telling you, "10 quick tips to become a master artist!!!!!!!" (<- please ignore those) If you’re just beginning, your hand-eye coordination needs to be trained, and you shouldn't bog yourself down so much thinking about end products just yet, so if tracing is the way to get you started, go for it. If you're a bit more experienced, tracing and drawing over reference can also help you warm up without being committal or stressing your art brain too much.
3: Practice "mindful tracing." While I said the previous point was targeted more at beginners, this point is actually about something that experts in their field use. Doing "mindful tracing" over art means that you aren't worried about getting the lines "correct," you're studying why those lines are there. You're taking note of where the shadows meet the highlights based on the light source, how it shows off the forms, and how sharp or soft the lighting is; you're going over the lines of action in the piece to see how your eye is guided by the artist's intention and planning; you're seeing how characters may be stylized into shapes and the feeling that those shapes can give; you're noting how the artist uses line weight or weird blocks of color or stark breaks to split up the art or separate ideas within it; you're experiencing the flow of the poses within the artwork to grasp how that kind of thing feels; you're breaking down the overall composition like in a thumbnail sketch; and the list goes on.
"Mindful tracing" ends up looking like you've marked up an English essay: it should be messy, because the intent with it is not to copy or replicate, it's to notate. It's like how literally writing notes on things helps you remember better than if you only read it. You're acknowledging instead of just looking. And you can always learn, even from styles that you don't intend on actually using. As you get to be more experienced, you may come to realize that you can do "mindful tracing" analyses on artwork without having to literally write over top of the piece, which is great: that means you're improving your creative brain, and prepping it to be able to break down your own works in this way as you make them.
4: Trace for specific character or style studying. For this point, I want to especially stress that this is what makes everyone say, "don't trace," because this is what tracing is most commonly associated with: art theft. There's really no excusable reason to repost someone's art in this way.
I feel like you have to be a bit more experienced to properly use tracing specifically for style studies. The benefits that come with tracing a certain style is that it can quite literally teach your hand/brain to recognize the patterns that are present. You get a feel for how far apart a specific characters eyes are, how big their hands are, how the shapes of the body make up their form, how the exaggeration in the expressions feel, and when traced you know you have all of these proportions correct. This makes it so much easier to start drawing the specific character on your own if you know that you have a correct baseline (and of course you should still use reference from then on). When you study many different characters of the same style, you can start to grasp what actually makes up this style that you're studying, where -similar to point #3- you train your art brain to recognize the original artists' intentions and ideas. I would even argue that doing this is MORE IMPORTANT than using reference at the very beginning of a style study, because it makes you worry less about if you're pulling from the reference correctly and instead lets you focus on the original art by thinking through it during the process; this kind of thing is done by professionals. Although tracing can net you these benefits for studies, it is not a way to get around the rest of the learning process, which is the pitfall that normally ends up making tracing ineffective.
5: Lastly, I actually kind of lied about tracing "only being good as a learning tool." The other case where tracing gets used is within the process of making hand drawn animation, and I do mean the professional stuff. Model guides are constantly used in classic animation as reference to keep by the animator's side so that characters stay on model, but sometimes there are unnoticeable parts of a character that just get straight-up traced from either the model sheet or a different scene that's already animated. When used smartly and sparingly, this keeps the character on model, is unidentifiable to the audience, and takes up less time for the animators to work (and by "used smartly" I don't mean moments where characters blatantly have 5 seconds of reused animation). I can basically guarantee that this practice was done throughout the making of any 2D project you can think of.
In digital hand drawn art, key frames between points in an animation may get the "shift and trace" treatment, where the tween frame is just a smudged-around-version of the key frames until it looks about right, and then it get traced over. Backgrounds get traced all the time by artists in the professional field through modelling a 3D render of the space, going over it so they have the layout, and then painting on top of it. When drawing characters, people will take photos of themselves and trace the pose, then keep it to the side as reference. And this is all without even mentioning rotoscoping.
When people say, "don't trace," what they actually mean is, "don't trace as a substitute for experience."
The issue is that people blanketly state, "x thing is bad," because then people that aren't learned in the field go, "oh, okay, x thing is bad, it will always be bad, I shouldn't look into it or consider it any more, and I should correct/disgrace anyone that thinks otherwise or does x thing."
So please. Trace. Tell other people to trace. But remember: trace mindfully. :)

more self!aware gojo
Gojo’s foot tapped restlessly as he used whatever measure possible to look into your room, at your phone, and even into your sketch book.
Slowly but surely, you were drifting away from him.
He could remember it clearly when he first stumbled upon him, or, more accurately, when you first found him.
You were scrolling through youtube mindlessly. Your teeth gnawing on the inside of your cheek as boredom threatened to kill you. Which was when a recommended video popped up. The title was something simple. “Top ten new gen anime to watch” or something like that. Already finishing your winter anime for the season, you decided to give it a watch. And at 1:30 of the video, he saw you and you saw him. He could see how your eyes shined just a tiny bit as you sat up and focused more on the screen.
Jujutsu Kaisen.
You noted the anime title quickly as you exited the app and went searching on where to watch it. Luckily for you, the anime was on Netflix, and much to Gojo’s amusement, you had immediately started binging the first season.
And throughout each episode, he got to know you.
You were a college student. A hardworking on at that. You still lived with your parents. Had a decent manga collection with figurines lining your bookshelves. You had two close friends that you had since middle school. And you were a total loser.
Gojo was in love.
He was used to the attention. He got it from everyone in his world and everyone in yours (or, at least, the people who actually watched anime or read a manga).
But he quite liked your attention the most.
You didn’t go overboard, but were still a fan that slowly started collecting the manga and looking for merchandise with his face on it.
Oh, you were so cute.
Your social media pages were dedicated to him. Your usernames having some sort of variation of his name. Your sketchbooks and fanfics were littered with his face and speech patterns. It was adorable. And unlike other fans, you did try to get to know him. Sure, you don’t try to do those character analysis posts, but you still try and he likes the effort.
Which was why he put so much effort in getting to know you too.
And yet…
As the manga continued he started to notice a sort of distant from both him and you. And it truly started to show right after his death and the end of the manga.
He watched as you changed your username. Your sketchbooks became empty. And your fanfics became so few. Your lengthy 1k fics turned into 50 word drabbles. Your username highlighted other characters he never even heard before. And you rarely turned a page of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga anymore.
Were you bored of him?
He didn’t want to lose! He couldn’t!
“Hey.”
Your voice rung in his ears as he snapped his attention to you.
Luckily you haven’t put his figure or poster into a cardboard box yet…
“Y/n! How have you been?”
He watched as you smiled. He recognized the voice on the other end of the phone. Sarah, her name was, a childhood friend of yours.
“Ohhh, nothing much,” you said as you went to cuddle into the comforts of your bed. Your free hand trying to untangle your blankets so you could get comfortable.
“That’s great! I’m planning on going to that anime convention this weekend! Want to come?”
Gojo watched as you perked up, a small smile on his face as he watched you. He has known you for years and it never gets old seeing you so excited for an anime con.
But as soon as the excitement showed, it was quick to disappear as you huffed, “I would love to, but… I have work.”
“Take a few days off then!”
You shook your head, “no can do. They need me for this project, Sarah.”
Gojo hummed, distinctly remembering you talking about it with your parents and how stressful it has been these past few months because of it. Right when you graduated college, you got a job and moved out almost immediately, much to Gojo’s delight. He was happy to see you be able to make it on your own (though, truthfully, he would much prefer to provide for you instead…).
Sarah sighed on the other end, “well, alright… do you want me to get you anything there?”
You played with your bedsheets. Your fingers pinching at the fabric and rolling it between your fingertips, “maybe a Gojo figure?”
“Gojo?”
“Yeah, you know, my all-time favorite character?”
Gojo could hear Sarah laugh on the other end, “kind of hard to imagine since you haven’t been talking about him lately.”
You rolled your eyes, “only because he died… ever since his death and the manga itself ending … I don’t know, I just really miss him. So, I tried to block him out. You know? If I don’t see him as often then maybe I won’t be so sad? Not to mention that work has been stressful lately. It feels like I don’t have any time to myself lately. And I’ve been itching to reread JJK again.”
Gojo could feel himself preening, you weren’t tired of him after all! You were just mourning his death. Which was cute. He liked how you cared so much.
“Alright, alright. I get it. One Gojo figure coming up!”
“Thanks.”
You both talked a bit more before eventually hanging up. He watched you toss your phone to your nightstand before reaching over and fiddling with the switch. After a couple of failed attempts you finally managed to switch it off.
Delving back into his own world where he sat comfortably on his couch, he leaned back. His head tilted back so he could stare up at the ceiling.
He needs to find a way to bring you to his world.

Inquire within!
I'm trying to keep this low enough impact that I can accomplish them. I can sketch fairly quick enough, even if it's a full body (though that DOES take me longer), and I think I can manage this.
Feel free to peruse my art tags and see if I can draw for you.
Some other notes under a read more because I talk a lot:
I can be contacted via tumblr askbox, at the least, and I can contact you for more discussion via DMs after that. I also have a discord, and if I actually have a density of commission requests I can make a discord server to invite you into for more conversation. (I have several servers, admittedly, including one for artists/creatives, but it might be rude to clutter those with commission talk.) If you must reach out to me somewhere else, I have a bluesky or you can email me ([email protected])
I have a ko-fi for payment, or paypal. I've used the latter more often and I can figure out the invoice thing if that's your preference.
I'm a primarily humanform artist. I can do human +wings, perhaps horns, or a mermaid tail, but I typically draw humankind and human shapes. I'm not set up to be a furry artist, and I want to be able to work faster than having to figure out animal shapes on the fly would allow me. I might be willing to draw a small animal companion with your character of choice, but that's a big maybe.
I know I wrote the vague "portrait" up there in the image, and I stand by that, but I realized that could also include things like video game avatars, and (variable)-sonas (trollsonas, for example). Still in the human limits, but with additional fun involved.
I'm pretty mild across the board as far as internet users go, and I forgot to write it on the image itself, but I won't do heavy gore stuff either. Blood and wounds are okay, that's fairly mild, but I won't draw guts spilling out or severe eye damage or stuff like that. That's probably not in the purview of sketch commissions anyway, but I would rather not have to deal with gore.
I will give you a quote if we have to negotiate additional details that'll cost more than my base price before I get started, and you're free to say that you can't commission me if you want at that point. No hard feelings, I get that money's tight across the board. I'm trying to find the bridge between making it worthwhile for what I'm offering and also making it reasonable for me to earn the bare amount of what I need.
I'm okay with drawing your ship of choice if you're willing to pay for it and give me a little more time to work out the positioning of characters. hand holding is hard, haha. I won't draw lolicon/shotacon, and I still won't draw sex, but we can talk around what else there is.
I'm not up to doing a fully rendered/fully colored commission right now, I haven't had a good track record with going through the full process digitally. Unless we have a really compelling discussion and I get paid real good, or I do it traditionally after that discussion, that's not something I'm offering fully.
I will send you the commissioner the full size png when I'm all done, but I'll post a smaller tumblr-size jpg on my blog, after payment is received. Unless you'd rather otherwise, in which case we'll talk about it and I'm willing to leave it unposted. You're not allowed to post it yourself or use it (as an avatar for example) without proper credit to me, and DEFINITELY you're not allowed to feed it to some image generating "AI" dataset.
I will offer these in traditional options (pencils and micron pens), but I can't stream the process on discord.
I don't have a formal contract to offer anyone, and I don't wanna figure out a google forms thing. My conditions are fairly reasonable and within my means, I think. Don't post my art or give it to AI, you don't get the image until I've gotten paid.
I think that's it? I hope that's it, I've been out of the game for a whiiiile.
...this is a top tier Genesis I've drawn for this commission post tbh

CrownedinMarigolds Commission information as of February 2025!
Tumblr media
Hello all! Sorry for the long post - but my commissions are re-opened until I feel like I have enough! Thank you to everyone who is interested!! The "rules" for my commissions are below the break, as I know this post is long enough already!
I am using KO-FI's commission tab to keep track of how many slots I have for each type, as well as occasionally introduce a different style or so if I feel like it/come up with one. This is to make things easier for me in regards to tracking, and to make things more visible to you all so you know how busy or available I may be!
My quick sketch commissions are always open on my KO-FI! Please note that aside from light tweaks, I will not overhaul draw the quick sketches or the group quick sketches.
Prices may slightly vary depending on specific details, but that is something we can discuss in private. The prices shown are pretty solidly what I will charge!
PLEASE NOTE: I will not start work until payment is made.
The prices above include the character + a simple background color/texture chosen by me unless otherwise requested by you. The group portraits will require a bit more in-depth discussion - such as if you don't want them just standing together and want them to be doing something as a group. That may change the price slightly depending on what they're up to. If you'd like to add a specific background, we can talk about that as well! I keep you very up to date through most of the process, and I have a few extra rounds of concept sketches prepared if needed for larger portraits. I will happily provide my Discord in private if we need to really talk things out, it's definitely easier that way!
Disclaimers: I have a very sketchy and not 100% clean art style, so please expect that in the finished product! I am absolutely happy to draw not safe for work scenes or subjects like sex, violence, blood, etc - but obviously the more gross end of the spectrum I won't touch. That can be discussed in private! I am not very good at drawing mechs, cars, or animals, so while you can ask me to, I may deny it just to ensure you don't get a subpar final drawing.
Also, I work full time and am a wife and mother! I like to think I'm fast and incredibly attentive but just please be respectful that I may have to step away to take care of my family. I have to save drawing for after I am off work and when my child is asleep.
If you'd like to commission me, go ahead and grab your slot through my KO-FI. Feel free to also send me a direct message through Tumblr or email me at [email protected]! Just noting again, I am using KO-FI to keep track of the slots taken and to keep all my record-keeping in one place. If you miss the window for a slot, I can of course write your idea and information down and inform you when I'm about to open slots again. You will be getting concept sketches, updates as I go, and of course the high res copy of your image at the very end. I would ask that you speak with me before using my work for public use or on paid programming. Otherwise, these images are yours and you feel free to use them as you please!
I am on KO-FI, and here is my Art Tumblr Tag for more examples of my work!
Thank you all so much!!

Extract AU. Chapter 2.
Part 1.
A known voice echos in his mind and Extract relives the events that transpired. The separation with hateful poisoned words from Shadow Milk Cookie, who he'd come to love followed by the events of the Beast-Yeast war. The beasts had been sealed away once again but not without casualties. Dark Cacao Cookie had fallen into a never-ending slumber while White Lily Cookie had sacrificed herself to make sure Dark Enchantress Cookie would never be alone, even as she turned to nothing but crumbs and dust. It took years for all of Earth Bread to move on, but they did... Just not Pure Vanilla Cookie. He remained in place where he had lost the ones, he loved the most.
Its just part 1 but ima take a break to work on other unfinished projects. Like stickers and animatics! Can you tell tho that I originally was just gonna sketch it out but then realized just lining was just as quick? I dont have smart select on Krita, as far as I know anyway, so lining correctly will take just as long. I also need to make a ref for ShMilk cuz he looken alittle squished on the first two lol. I'd have redone it but I just wanted to post it at this point.

Good Omens graphic novel update: December 2024
We promised a graphic novel treat for December to send off 2024, which we have at the end of the update, so let's dive in!
Colleen has been working diligently ahead of the graphic novel going to print next month, which she discussed over on Patreon. For those looking for more behind the scenes on both Good Omens and Colleen's work more broadly, we recommend either following her Substack, or subscribing via Patreon, as she approaches the finish line.
Tumblr media
A snapshot from our production HQ where dummy books of the graphic novel, slipcase and other editions of Good Omens have been arriving thick and fast. The graphic novel (slipcased version shown) has quite the heft to it. It's going to be such a magnificent object inside and out.
Here, we're testing out the various papers, finishes, embellishments and more – everything is falling into place!
Merch-wise, some more delights. The A.Z. Fell & Co tote bag design is in, one side in celebration of our favourite angelic bookseller, the other as if it's been purchased from the bookshop itself, so you can take your pick.
Tumblr media
We've got more pins that will be available in the 3-pin set add ons. While the full list will be available in 2025, we're happy to share a few more to get excited about:
Tumblr media
On the trading card front, have a look at some of the base deck designs by Steve Gregson and Kirsty Hunter in situ as this all comes together rather nicely, and causes a heated game or two behind the scenes.
Tumblr media
And, a quick admin note to wrap up that we always recommend checking the FAQ page as a first port of call for any queries. If you have questions tied to specific tiers, we'd suggest checking the last few updates if your answer can't be found on the FAQ. If there is any information required for your pledge, we will be in touch. We will be back at full steam in the New Year!
Thank you.
So, to wrap up this year's updates, we give you the draft of the full first scene of the graphic novel, artwork by Colleen Doran and lettering by Lois Buhalis. If you'd like to wait until the graphic novel publishes in Spring, skip everything after the ducks!
Tumblr media
To 2025 🥂
Until next time.

+ post from Colleen Doran:
Good Omens: You Get...Stuff Like This
Tumblr media
In the most recent Good Omens update at the Kickstarter, a few people got upset at the suggestion that you have to get past my paywall here to see Good Omens updates.
Except you really don't, and the post doesn't actually say you do. You get a bit more, like pics of my studio, a discussion of tools and process - but not all of that is exclusively about Good Omens.
I think the Dunmanifestin team just wanted to draw a little attention to my blogs and other works, for which I am very grateful.
As my Patreon supporters already know, Good Omens info posted here gets to the Substack and Kickstarter eventually. And since most of my posts here aren't just about Good Omens, but my other projects and personal stuff, as well as links to our weekly Virtual Art Studio sessions, I think I'm justified in keeping that material behind a paywall.
In fact, I don't think I've posted much stuff about Good Omens since the summer: pages of flats like the one you see above, a few studio photos, and color tweaks.
Also, me boo-hooing about my nerves and health.
But for those who feel left out missing even this small amount of stuff, then the screen shot above is for you.
That's called a flat.
It's a prelim color before adding final color.
Here's what the final color looks like.
Tumblr media
So I've posted a handful of this sort of thing since this summer, but frankly, there's even more of my sketches and so on posted at my Instagram that aren't here at all.
For those who don't know, I am doing most of the color myself on the book, but I am working with assistants. I'm not sure how much the Dunmanifestin team wants out there before the big reveals, but here's a snippet of a sky.
In the first image, my flat color.
Tumblr media
And after my assistant worked on it.
Tumblr media
Here, I've done a repaint. Sometimes I do very extensive repaints after the assistant works on a page. Sometimes not so much. I didn't use assistants on many pages at all. About 80% of the labor on the color of the book is my work.
However, the assistants have been a big help, and I am very appreciative of them.
Tumblr media
I will make a point to go through all my prior posts and get every single bit of art that you haven't seen and make it public for all of you in the coming weeks. I need to excise it from previous posts. As I respect the privacy of all my readers, I never make prior posts public without their permission as they may not want their comments or identities to be public.
Thanks so much for everything!

A few months ago I posted a couple photos of my index cards, saying I still didn’t know how and where I’d keep them, and I’ve since developed an Archiving System that combines the cards with a digital spreadsheet and has taken more hours than I will ever admit.
So, since I don’t have a “notebook system” to speak of, I'd like to share the way I archive my journals / sketchbooks / whatever you wanna call them, because I’m very proud of it, and who knows, someone might find it helpful :)
WHY I NEED AN ARCHIVING SYSTEM
The reason I don’t have a notebook system is because I use my books for absolutely everything, from sketches to grocery lists and journaling. It is crucial to me to not have any restrictions or expectations when it comes to my books, and that’s how I’ve managed to fill 43 of them over the years.
But of course, when you’ve been using notebooks without a system for most of your life and you want to read a specific entry, you can easily spend a full hour flipping through a sea of paper until you stumble upon those notes on the Bubonic Plague you took in 2011 or whatever you were trying to find.
SO HERE’S WHAT I DO
When I finish a notebook, I try to determine what its most important contents are: stuff I might want to reference in the future (project ideas, meeting notes) or is very characteristic of a period in my life (friends' drawings, travel logs). Every single page contributes to making the notebook what it is and gives it a unique personality, but not all of them are gonna be keepers, and that's fine (I'd even say fundamental, at least in my case).
These are the extremely generic categories I sort my Chosen Entries into. It's similar to the dot system so many people use, just applied retroactively:
🟣 Study notes 🔵 Work 🟢 Personal 🟡 Projects 🔴 Misc
And here's where the real archiving begins. This info goes into:
1. THE INDEX CARDS
(I always write them in Catalan; this one's a mockup and most of these are not real entries)
Tumblr media
A little piece of cardboard with the notebook number, its start and end dates, and most important contents. I keep each index card inside its corresponding notebook, either in its own backpocket or an adhesive one I stick there myself.
Tumblr media
This way, whenever I want to take a quick look through the book, I get a general idea of its contents at first glance. Sometimes, just holding it in my hand and reading the index card brings me back to the time when I was keeping it, and that time-travel feeling gives me a rush like no other. I don't know if you can tell, but I'm crazy about my notebooks.
2. THE SPREADSHEET
Tumblr media
Same as before, just a couple more pieces of info (number of months, physical description) added to a file with the rest of my notebooks' data. Again, these are not real entries for privacy and language reasons, but they're very similar to the kind of stuff I do keep. The spreadsheet helps me find specific entries with a simple ctrl+f, and it's also a bird's-eye view of my progress through the years as a notebook keeper. I can see when my interests shift, how long some of my most important projects took to come to fruition, and even similar types of entries that repeat every few years which I wasn't even aware of before putting it all together. Absolutely fascinating stuff.
I hope this was useful, or interesting at the very least! If you’re a notebook keeper trying to find their own archiving system, my main advice would be to start early so you don’t have to deal with almost two decades of material like I did :’)
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.
Good luck 🖤

The 141 and stationery:
Ghost:
Has a skeleton themed notebook that has clearly seen better days, but it has many tiny stylized mini colored skulls and it was gifted from Soap
Has a bic pen, the orange ones and lost the cap. Is somehow able to finish his pens before losing them and has a box of like 50 bic pens, all arange with blue caps and all in a drawer in his desk
Uses the most basic looking normal black and yellow HB pencils, those in a box oflike 10 at a time you find for half the price in september and almost always finishes his pencils when they are almost still big enough to be used but unusable for his comfort (big hands problems)
To organize his notes he just puts paper scotch over the thing and writes with a pencil what it is. Then when he needs to hand it out he carefully removes it and heands it to Price (sometimes there are slightly ruined edges, but nothing like a paper shredded in half)
Soap
Has at least four notebooks, one for actual work, one for quick sketches, one with which he can go on OPs because its really small and easy to hide in a tac vest and on for journaling or just stupid ideas and reminders
Has some spring pens and some normal ones, has a fountain pen he mainly uses for inking his drawings when he actually puts effort in them, sometimes he just steals some of those he finds on the ground (usually Kyle's), when he goes into an art supply sho he has to stop himself from buying the whole inking section because some of those inkingpens have such small tips that he could draw such small details that he would need a magnifying glass to see them
Has a couple of old but still functioning mecanichal pencils that he loves to this day (neat and precise lines and lineart with no ink) and a whole set of varying hardness (4B to 4H) so he knows how to do his shading pretty well
To organise his notes he uses coloured metal clips, sometimes post-its, usually he categorizes his work by colour of the metal clip+ position of the metal clip (let him ADHD without judging, he is a little undiagnosed baby) and sometimes makes little butterfly origami to pit on the edges in case something is really important or he needs extra instructions on that paper
Gaz:
Has a couple of notebooks, one for work one for personal reminders and stuff like that, usually they are monochrome and colours that are similar (ex turquoise and teal) so he can go around with one or the other and nobody will ask a thing since those colours in different lighting's look similar
Spring pens, normal pens (usually bic) and also some fountain pens are his most used, uses them in different contexts and usually one of the most organised people you can find with his stationary
Has one (1) mechanical pencil that is cheap plastic but surprisingly it matches his notebooks and uses normal HB pencils (sometimes you might find him use IKEA pens and he will deny even knowing that IKEA gives out free pencils) probably has some variability in hardness but just and F and and H1 for the sake of having a different feeling on the paper every once in a while
To organise his notes he uses post it's and coloured semi-trasperent small sticky notes, he is one of the best organised ones and also one of the few actually able to find what he searching for
Price:
Has one BIG notebook where he keeps everything all at once, he can't bother buying the smaller ones (because their surface you can write/£ per surface ratio is not as good) but sometimes he gets a small one to take notes while on an OP
Has one fountain pen for important documents and the rest are plastic transparent bic or other types of normal ink pen, surprisingly has also some water resistant pens
Doesn't even bother with mechanical pencils, good old wood (may or may not have stolen some lf Ghost's pencils), has 2 hardnesses (HB and 2B) he uses them regularly and knows when to use each
Organizer? Price? Yeah, he keeps everything separed in folders in his office and classified inside his mind, that man knows everything in his office by heart
What would you add?
@bone-trash what would you add?

Tumblr media
When he found out about your talent, he immediately bought you the most expensive equipment. Whether you like to paint on a canvas or on a graphic tablet, he will buy you only the best products.
He's very old-fashioned and wants a classic portrait. He'll arrange a proper setting to fit his taste. With a fireplace in the background, an expensive suit, and some other decoration that screams old money, he’ll sit with his legs crossed in his comfy chair while he looks at you. A soft smile would appear on his face, especially when you two locked eyes. You thought about painting that lovely smile and contouring those sweet dimples, but you know him better and chose to leave a stoic expression on his face. His soft side is for your eyes only.
He won’t mind sitting for hours because he'll have the greatest company. You two will gossip about the hottest tea at work, talk about his latest projects, and besides that, he'll have his romantic moments when he tells you how much he cherishes you.
The final result leaves him in awe.
"Darling, this is astonishing." He said, amber eyes studying every inch of the canvas and feeling an immense sense of pride washing over him. He couldn't take his eyes off your masterpiece.
"I knew you had it in you," he began after a short period of total silence. "Yet you managed to exceed my expectations."
You breathe a sigh of relief. Even if he was your boyfriend, it was hard to please him. He didn't coddle you, so when he praised you, you knew it was real.
He will hang that portrait with pride in his office, and he’ll tell everyone with pride that his partner made the incredible art.
Tumblr media
With the corner of his eye, he noticed how you kept shifting your gaze from your notebook to him. Sometimes you'd stare longer at him, and sometimes your hand would go faster and then slower as if you were trying to remember something. Sometimes, you would scratch your head with the pencil and sighed in frustration.
Whatever you were doodling, it wasn't coming along as you wanted.
Not being able to control his curiosity anymore, he slowly approached your desk.
"Whatcha doing there?" he asked, looking over your shoulder, directly in the notebook. A wide smile appeared shortly.
You didn't hide the page in time, and Leon saw the sketches with his face. You drew him from three different angles. Even if you were in a hurry, you still captured his soft features—his genuine smile and his gentle gaze.
"I- uh-I..." you fumbled, hands going in random directions over the paper.
"You don't have to hide it. I think it looks good." He smirked and went back to his desk.
"Thanks. Listen, I was taking a break, and I felt a bit of inspiration coming in-"
"You don't have to excuse yourself." He chucked and turned to face you. In that moment, you saw a faint blush on his cheeks. "I think it looks great, given how fast you draw."
"And given how much you fidget,"
He chuckled.
"Seriously, man, lay off that coffee."
You both laughed, making some people turn their attention to you out of curiosity. A quick glance around, and you quiet down a bit.
"If you want to finish, I'll try my best to stand still."
"I would appreciate that."
You both smiled at each other. Time went by fast, and by the time you finished, the office was empty. None of you felt the time passing by as you got to know each other better. Leon loved his portraits and "stole" your notebook.
Tumblr media
He loved everything you did. Every gesture, every tic, everything was just perfect for him.
What he cherished most was your talent when it came to art. Everything you touched turned into a masterpiece, something so beautiful that it can’t be described by a simple man. So, when you wanted to paint him, he looked at you in shock.
"Me?"
"Yes, you."
"Why?" he chuckled.
"Because I want to. And because I want an excuse to stare at your picture for hours while you are away on missions."
He pulled you closer and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.
"Alright. Make sure to highlight my good side."
"As if you have a bad one."
Despite loving how affectionate and supportive you were with him, he never understood why. He viewed himself as a rough, cranky man who got on everyone's nerve. For short, an asshole. But to you, he wasn't like that. Despite the hardships in his life, he still maintained a soft gaze.
Naturally, he wondered why you wanted him to be part of your beautiful portfolio. And more importantly, did he deserve to be part of it?
For the next couple of days, he waited for you to finish. He would peek in your room to see the progress, but you didn't let him. You wanted to surprise him.
When he came back from his mission, arriving in your comfy apartment, you shoved your art in front of his face.
"Do you like it?" you asked excitedly.
He reluctantly took the canvas and stared at it for a few seconds. It's not that he didn't like it. It's the fact that he didn't recognize himself. His scars weren’t so prominent, his eyes weren't so full of sadness and anger, and his lips were curved in a soft smile. His features were softer, friendlier, even.
“This… I know it’s me, but it feels like I’m looking at a stranger.”
"Why do you say that?”
“It feels like you retouched my face.”
“Hmm, no, this is how you look in real life. You're not as tough-looking as you think."
He loves it regardless, and he loves you even more.
Tumblr media
His muse in this life was you. Every time he looked at you, every time he saw your pretty face, his mood would lighten up in a heartbeat. A catastrophe at the moment would turn into something insignificant, something he could overcome with ease.
What he loved most about you was your talent. He was amazed at the beautiful things you could create with your hands, unlike him. He found refuge in your art, staring at your finished and unfinished projects for hours.
"Mi dulzura, what masterpieces are you creating?"
"Thank you, mi rey. Wanna be part of them?"
He smiled. He approached you with light footsteps, rubbing your shoulders gently when he reached your back.
"I'd be honoured."
He was thrilled. Being fascinated by your talent, he wanted to ask you long ago, but he didn't want to overcrowd you as you had many projects and clients. He didn't want to put more pressure. He simply told you that he doesn't want anything fancy.
He waited every day for you to finish, barely containing himself from asking dozens of questions. You had to kick him out multiple times from your room because you wanted to surprise him.
"Luis," you called out, "it's done!"
He came in a hurry, and as expected, he loved the result. He wouldn't stop praising you for creating another masterpiece.
"This is...I have no words. It's simply stunning."
"Well, you are stunning," you said, wrapping your arms around his neck.
"I guess I really am your Prince Charming."
You chuckled and were ready to say something, but he caught your lips in a quick, gentle kiss.
From that moment on, he becomes your one and only muse. You'd paint him in various poses and various clothes, sometimes with you as well. He would sit near you, watching you do your magic without saying a word. He loves and respects what you do a lot.

[[Tumblr ate another Anon's ask about my way of drawing\painting I can't with this app😭😭😭 If half a year later this ask mysteriously reappears in my notes like previous I'll edit screenshot of it up here, other then that I just hope you'll still see this post, dear Anon🕯🥀]]
Hello Anon!
I made a quick timelapse of one of my old-ish work for you, under the cut I'll go into more details about the process! I hope it'll be of use to you, but don't expect some crazy insights, I'm a messy artist ahjkakhj
So, step one! When the sketch is clean enough for me, I go in with plain colours to block out objects that I'll be refining on separate layers later. At the same time it helps me take a step back from details and break down the image into bigger, simpler shapes, so it's easier to find better composition and proportions.
Tumblr media
Step two (actual colouring) Usually my brain shuts down on me on that part too, Anon… Basically I use a very limited palette at the start and gradually build up more hues and contrasts as I go. Sometimes I do a gray scale drawing first to get my values right, but this one is simple and was more of a vent&relax piece for me so there is none of that haha Also, since I tend to work on as little layers as possible and merge sketch layer and colour layer together at literally the first opportunity I get, most of the times I have a copy of my sketch saved on a separate hidden layer in case I overdo the painting part and need some roughness back.
Tumblr media
Step three, Details! And when I say details I mean
D E T A I L S .
Tumblr media
There is simply something magical in squiggly lines and dots… I can never fight them…
There is not much of advise I can really give you here, just do what feels right to you, what looks beautiful to you. Make your art finished in the way you see it finished, take another step back and ask yourself "what's missing? what feels undone? empty?". Combine styles, find new patterns and brushes, most importantly HAVE FUN!!!
Sooner or later you'll find the perfect algorithm for painting and drawing, only to 5, 20, 50 works down the line realize that's something in your own style doesn't sit right with you anymore and feels rather routinish and start that journey anew.
Never stop your searching, chase after your own definition of beauty because without you there will be nobody to show it to others.

Day 5: Bestiary
Tumblr media Tumblr media
full piece on ao3
(divider from THIS post, thank you @flowersforthemachines)
Tumblr media
The beginnings of his monster manual are scattered across its surface: drawings, wood shavings, and various notes. Davrin settles into the desk chair with a sigh, shuffling through it all.
It's been in the works for years now, every monster he ever faced—and some he hasn't. Always on the move, sleeping on forest floor and in strange strange taverns there was never much time to be dedicated solely to the prospect. The bestiary was just constant notes collected in a leather-bound notebook. An odd sketch here and there. In the past several months he's been busy cataloging the new forms of darkspawn they've encountered, as well as all the strange new creatures in Arlathan. The face (if it could be called that) of one of the fade-creatures they've run across in Arlathan stares up at him with it's bloodied petals and many, many razor sharp teeth. They haven't yet come up with a name for them—all of Rook's suggestions have been unhelpful. Bellara's even more so.
Davrin decided he'd agonize over such things later. He didn't want to wind up with a name like 'The Gloom Howler' a second time round.
Though a quick leaf through the pages has him snagging on something else. A sketch of Assan curled up by the fire, his neck and chin laid flat on the carpet, feet bent at the elbow juncture and tucked in close to his body. No better than a housecat. There were others of him, too. None as anatomical as his other drawings.
Rook teased him about it just the other day, having snatched a page of Assan off his desk upon a remarkably soundless entry.
I didn't take you for an artist.
Davrin had rolled his eyes. He's hardly that.
The drawing came out of necessity rather than passion for any kind of art. In the early days of monster hunting, Davrin was in far over his head. There was a monster terrorizing a local village in Rivain—a dracolisk, he found out later. It's hide was too hard to pierce, adorned with too may spikes and scales, claws sharp enough to rend a man limb from limb with a single strike—which Davrin very nearly learned from firsthand experience. No matter what he tries, nothing seemed to pierce it.
So he made the trip to Dairsmuid.
He went first to the circle of magi, which was where he encountered his first problem. Describing a large beast with claws like needles and hide like stone didn't get him much of anywhere.
He was directed to a bestiary written by a man that Davrin still isn't sure had even seen half the monsters depicted in those pages. The Varterral was all wrong, rockwraiths certainly take more than one arrow to kill and the author hadn't even bothered differentiating the brand of wyvern that spit acid from the ones who spewed fire. At the very least, Davrin thought a mage would have known what a rage demon looked like.
Ludrik certainly could have fooled him.
A year later, he was near Ventus, dealing with a Chimera—likely unleashed by blood magic. Davrin still bears the marks of that one too, along the back of his left shoulder and thigh. There was a scholar in the city he'd heard of, Balmor.
Davrin had taught himself to sketch by that point—they were rough things, but descriptive enough for him to find information when he needed it. Balmor, expert that he was, couldn't recognize a chimera if its serpent's tail had wrapped itself around his throat.
Davrin had already been keeping track, then. His own knowledge and experience stuffed into a small, leather bound book that was often wet, it's pages punctured more than once. He learned to sketch fast and remember the small details for later. That last part wasn't particularly difficult. Davrin actually found it difficult to forget the rancid, noxious breath of a harpy or the exact number of teeth inside the mouth of a great wyrm.
It was a skill more than a hobby at the start but Davrin supposes it'd be a lie to pretend it wasn't both, sometimes. At least the whisper of charcoal pencil on parchment is unlikely to wake either of the current residents of his bed.
And somehow, staring at a blank page, Davrin cannot even conceptualize a monster he's yet to draw.
Except one.

Quick sketches that somehow turned into hcs post (u can read below if u want) <3 On an unrelated note, they were devious for that arrow on his back
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think his vision would be that he can still see environments in detail as long as the objects have depth but most materials look the same texture/color, kinda like the dark section in mile high but with a purple tint. Also he'd be able to see through transparent materials and surfaces like glass (example pics below) So basically his visor works the same as glasses and he can still "see" without it just WAY less
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND UM HELLO?? I somehow never noticed he's got slightly blonde hair in the concept art </3 personally my hc for that is that his hair was more blonde-ish when he was young and eventually turned white(gray?) (unc status) so I'll be using white unless im feeling extra silly. It also didn't make sense for him to have long hair based on the visor armor in his concept design so I decided to give him an undercut on a whim though it gets covered by his hair all the time
Tumblr media
I don't normally post long posts but im a huge loser and a sucker for more mosnoon content and I gotta say I rly enjoy people's hcs of him. Thank you for reading this far like and subscribe for more brainrot!!
