the tunnel imagery is really strong in this show... the exports hallway, the goat tunnel, the woe's hollow cave, the hallway to wellness, that computer-cable tunnel sequence, the break room hallway, harmony's family heirloom cellar, gemma's labyrinth of hallways. the imagery of the severance procedure all has a tunneling motif to it, the way they keep showing a surgical instrument slipping cleanly past folds of gray matter to deposit the chip between them. so does the basement lobotomy, even in the way reghabi talks about it, how she's going to go in the entrance the original surgeons left behind when they drilled into mark's skull to implant the chip in his brain. i even want to count the elevators which are, technically speaking, metal boxes moving through a tunnel that is vertical. OH also a tunnel: the makeshift tent that helly builds to crawl inside with mark so they can fuck.
(abed nadir voice) i remember when this show was about an office job
[^NOT a criticism btw. in case that wasn't clear]

A thousand years is nothing to a star. I am no different. Time does seem slower when you’re waiting for something interesting to happen though.
Niflheim is alright. Cold, but it pales in comparison to the cold of the vacuum of space so if anything, it’s warmer than I’m used to.
Quite the opposite of Muspelheim.
Unfortunately I haven’t had much of a good look at the inhabitants. They seem to spend most of their time burrowed under the snow away from the cold and relentless storms.
This might take longer than anticipated.

You know, for as much as I joke about Grace and Wolfgang having had sex (and it apparently being confirmed by the team too), I'm actually genuinely intrigued if that will be plot relevant later. I've seen some people talk about Grace potentially being pregnant (and side eyeing Wolfgang's corpse too which LMAO). That may sound way out there and a stretch, but it's actually not that unbelievable, surprisingly. The animal that Grace is associated with is the rabbit. Rabbits are known to represent fruitfulness, lust and fertility due to their rapid reproduction. And in Christianity they also represent rebirth and resurrection on top of that (hence why they're so intimately tied to Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Christ).
Considering how Eden's Garden has a LOT of religious symbolism and parallels to the bible, it wouldn't be too unimaginable if that's going to be how her animal symbolism becomes relevant later on. Her being the character most associated to fertility and reproduction while also being heavily implied to have had sex (probably unprotected) doesn't seem like a complete coincidence, I think. Just food for thought. Love it, hate it-- if nothing else, that'd certainly be one way to put the "dead" in "dead beat", amirite?

Why there can only be one - a Limbus Theory
Massive Canto 6.2 spoilers
So... Canto 6.2, amirite?
After I stopped having a screaming fit over voice chat and got myself to actually sit down and mull things over, my mind kept coming back to the ending of this part's final fight against Heathcliff(?).
As they have done numerous times already, Projmoon brings in our relevant Sinner's personal E.G.O. in the most emotionally high moment creating an iconic scene.
But... wait a minute.
The E.G.O. does not make sense.
Like, think about it. Since Limbus started, people have been speculating about what's in the Bodysack, one of the biggest theories being Cathy's corpse. But our Heathcliff never had his revenge quest. He hasn't killed anyone from the Earnshaws or the Edgars until Hindley distorted!
So why the heck does he have a sack of bodies of (presumably) his enemies. And why is the final attack of Heathcliff(?)'s fight in the cemetery?
Tumblr media
Heath wasn't there when Cathy died. He didn't go to her grave. He did not swear revenge on everyone and anyone who caused him and her suffering.
Not yet.
But... we do see someone who did, don't we? Dear old "Matt".
He is the book accurate Heathcliff. He's stood vigil while Cathy lay dying, he followed suit by destroying everyone and everything of the Earnshaws and the Edgars, and now he's on a self-destructive suicide quest of killing every last version of himself for causing Cathy's death.
The E.G.O. fits him much more than it does our Heathcliff, doesn't it?
So... why does Heathcliff have it?
This was the beginning of a rabbit hole (pun intended). Let me state plainly my point and then elaborate:
My theory is that our Heathcliff has been suffering from "identity bleed-through" since perhaps even before joining Limbus Companny, all due to the existence of "Matt" in the same universe as him.
"Matt" is outright called an Identity, meaning he's an alternate reality version of Heathcliff, a more book accurate version, as I remarked earlier.
He presumably finished his revenge quest until he was the last one left, but then he discovered, by some means, that alternate realities exist and that he can access them.
We do not know who showed him that technology or for what purpose, but regardless of those factors, that must've been the breaking point at which self-destruction became a hunt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He says he's seen Hindley die multiple times, multiple ways.
He's a reality hopper, using his access to this technology (supplied to him by we don't know who) to play this act out again and again, until he's had his revenge.
How would this affect our Heathcliff, tho?
Let's consider the ImplicationsTM.
Wehave known since Selva Oscura how Identities work - you borrow a person's alternate reality self for a little while, letting them overwrite memories and take over the body. Faust even calls it a transformation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But notice how she specifies something rather important: they have a system to ensure the Sinners can use Identities safely. That they, quote, don't lose control over their own existence.
And even this system can be faulty, as Dante remarks in their note:
Tumblr media
Faust knows this process is risky, that the lines can easily blur, and we know just how much damage this can cause because Leviathan outright shows us the psychological and physical toll this process can have on a person.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We even see the same thing in Canto 6 itself, with the hundred glass containers filled with kidnapped people forced to experience numerous realities at once.
Some of them even turn into Peccatula because of it, and we fight those newly made monsters.
So experiencing other realities alone can harm you, change you without even realising it.
What would happen, then, if more than one identity existed in the same reality at the same time?
My theory hinges on the idea that these identities would not just count as two separate people, that is true. But let's go with that train of thought. It is just as likely an outcome (and it produces an interesting story!), and between all the magic-esque technology and the Light, it's possible that something would get messed up.
Two people where there is meant to be one, two very different lives, and reality cannot really allow that separation. Things would bleed through, they'd get all blurry and you wouldn't even know where the difference is.
We have Matt-cliff, an Identity who has travelled at least a few universes, in each carrying out a scheme to kill everyone who hurt Cathy, including that reality's Heathcliff. In the books, it takes him his entire adulthood to carry out his plans. He's persistent, and thorough. In Limbus, he's had to arrive, kidnap several dozens of people (maybe with the help of the Ring, since they seem to be funding all of this research), re-establish the Wild Rabbits, get Hindley's trust, get hired, and scheme this reality's revenge plot.
That would have taken weeks if not months of prepwork. You don't just snap your fingers and have it all done.
I posit that Matt has been a factor for the past several months that Heath has spent, in universe, as part of Limbus company, if not longer. Throughout this time, their shared existence in this reality has caused their experiences, memories, and emotions to mix. And that isn't just my conjecture, we see that Heathcliff is indeed experiencing alternate universe memories we he starts to Distort and we (and Dante) see him see Mattcliff's grief.
[Thank you to my buddy @firestorm09890 for pointing this out to help me solidify this theory]
Tumblr media
The way I see it, Bodysack is that.
A memory and an emotion of a reality travelling bloodhound imprinting itself on Heathcliff. It was foreshadowing his existence, it was staring us in the face that something is not right. The influence of another self can lead a person to corrupt and Heath had a slow trickle of it for nearly a year.
Tumblr media
So... maybe it wasn't as surprising that he is our first Distorted Sinner.
I can't really see how it'd make sense in universe Heath has it otherwise, and I know Projmoon to be meticulous planners so I doubt this is an oversight on their part.
Guess we'll have to see next Thursday when 6.3 comes out and breaks me into tiny bits.
Anyway thanks for coming here to read this longass post.

Headshots of the apathy adoring guys.
Sketch ver
apathy adoring is a self-indulgent rewrite of redo of healer that is probably at least a little influenced by the way too many manhwa/manga with dubious relationships I've read. Which is to say for some reason I looked at Redo of Healer and thought "I can make a messed-up Josei story out of this" and ended up doing it. Still has dark themes though so like. Careful before you click.
Anyway. Notes on the guys as of Ch 11 and general apathy adoring notes/spoilerish recap if anyone cares to read that I suppose. Random summary stuff and fun facts.
The Boy | Keyaru
Protagonist of Redo of Healer. The premise of that thing is that this guy at 14 years old was abused physically and sexually for 2 years because his semen can raise the level cap of others. It be one of those magic with numbers and a limited slot of skills fantasy worlds. He goes back in time and carries out a long rape revenge seinen fantasy thing. I did not like that. I don't know why the fic got into my brain so much.
Still out for revenge in the fanfic. He ran away from Alban and managed to eat a couple more poisonous plants and fungi relative to canon before he was caught this time, so his immunity to drugs and poison kicked in sooner.
Was still caught, healed Kureha, allows himself to be abused for the revenge plan, that whole deal.
Interested in the maid because of previous timeline memories. Infatuated by the Maid/reader in this current timeline due to the chain of events that occurred that resulted in more interactions. (Came in later, she was assigned to clean him up, and it just went on and on)
A notable differences from the source material includes him playing along and "getting better" at healing publicly so he gets to stay out of the dungeon some days. I was getting tired of writing scenes in the dungeon.
Has introduced himself to the Maid/reader character. So she knows his name. She just refuses to acknowledge it.
The weirdest thing he's done in the story so far: used healing magic to kind of transform his hand into being like the Maid's wounded one and kissed it.
Main aim when writing him: Pitiful enough to make you help but there's something wrong with him that makes you regret it. Or maybe you're just being paranoid.
The Knight | Bako
Appears in the light novel/manga and is killed shortly after. Was used by Keyaru and his group because Bako was the "most sane of the knights" whatever that means. In the novel it was murder after his aid because he was involved in the attack on Keyaru's village and could have spread knowledge of Keyaru's party, in the manga it was because he attacked Keyaru's group in revenge for killing Renard. Renard had taken him in. He's vice captain of Princess Flare (first/main abuser of Keyaru)'s knights.
In the fic he's a coward who is aware of Renard's atrocities but is too attached to his father figure to really do anything about it.
Infatuated with the maid due to projecting. He is very aware of what the kingdom does to the boy in the dungeon but you know. Coward.
Savior Complex.
I hate his hair why are you so spiky.
Has no colored version in the manga. Was that insignificant. Chose blond hair for the "knight in shining armor pretty gold good and righteous" imagery and steel blue eyes and something dull and different from the red eyes of the other guys. Also. Similar to Renard.
Main aim when writing him: physically strong/imposing but kind of pathetic if you're not in a fight-or-flight headspace.
Yukito | Harris | The Rabbit
An oc I made to balance out the cast. What's a josei without 3 guys amirite haha
No but like sincerely. A character to balance out whatever freak stuff is happening with the other two. Also probably delves into the idea of free will and consent somewhat.
Is a rabbit demi-human (basically a rabbit boy). Escaped slave, gave his "true name" to the Maid/Reader after they met by chance, which by source material lore means that he is bound to her mind and heart, body and soul. She is Not Happy about this.
Has chopped his ears and tail off and is blending in as the "human" Harris surprisingly well. Being albino tends to answer the question of why he hides his face for most people.
Main aim when writing him: a decent, sweet person in unfortunate circumstances. Kind of the physical manifestation of the idea of running away, which even if possible the maid thinks of too much of a dream than actual choice.
Bonus
The Maid | The Reader
Low level low magic horrible stats. Instead of being a competent warrior like the other staff in the palace, she is just good at cleaning.
Very tired, very paranoid. Violent intrusive thoughts.
Wary of all the boys. No attraction to any of them lol.
But if pressed. And had to stick to any of them. It would be Yukito.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, AMIRITE? Thank you sweet @justanotherinterneruser for including me, even if I am dead 90% of the time on here. I enjoy silly little challenges. So, a repeat of rules: pick 10 of your fics and post the first line of each? 1. ‘‘Makes you sick, doesn’t it?’’ (Full of Mettle, Fullmetal Alchemist. Hurt/Comfort, and pure chaos. Still progressing aka me fussing between depressive fugue states and growing bashfully encouraged at the comments.)
2. Ears ringing and brain whirling, Roy Mustang sluggishly woke to a blurry world of gray smudges. (Learning to Vent, Fullmetal Alchemist. Hurt/Comfort Parental Roy)   3. Edward once asked the Colonel why mine inspections. (Mouse, Fullmetal Alchemist. Hurt/Comfort Parental Roy)
4. A warm wind swept across the grassy knoll that Lieutenant Colonel Roy Mustang occupied. (Wild Rabbits, Barley Soup, and War-Torn Towns – Fullmetal Alchemist. My addition to Boredom and I’s silly and addictive found family ‘Dad Making A Difference’) 5.It started off small and inconsequential during his first month of joining the military. (Courage is Fire, and Bullying Is Smoke, Fullmetal Alchemist)
6. ‘‘Brother…’’ (Worrywart, Fullmetal Alchemist)
7. Heart pounding, Edward managed to escape the shouts of his pursuers.  (Nowhere to Run, Fullmetal Alchemist.)
8. The suit of armor was mountainous and intimidating, made entirely of gleaming gunmetal-colored steel. (The Boys, Fullmetal Alchemist.)
9. The sky was nothing more than a mass of gray and black rolling clouds that lashed icy sheets of rain down upon them. (Landslide, Fullmetal Alchemist.)
10."I need you to listen to me very carefully, Edward.’’  (Liar, Fullmetal Alchemist – Parental Riza)
Annnnnd, I'm supposed to tag, but I'm more of a lurker (who answers messages) on here, so I won't bother folk. Hahah.
