FAIRY COMMUNICATIONS

On April 12, 1671, a Swedish farmer recorded the following visit by a Vettar, or spirit, in the year 1660. A wee fellow knocked at the door of his farmhouse, which was located near the Ragunda parsonage, and begged the mistress of the house to come and assist his wife, who was in childbirth. The tiny man had a dark complexion and wore old gray clothes. At first the couple refused his request, but when he had asked four or five times, the woman agreed to go. Remembering that the Vettar could bring misfortune to people, the farmer prayed over his wife and blessed her. Then she gathered some old linen and left with the man.

Upon the wife's return, she told her husband that once she was at their gate, it felt as if she were carried on the wind to the birthing chamber. After assisting with a difficult labor, the farmer's wife was thanked and then offered food, which she refused. She was carried back, again on the wind. The farmer said that a "quantity of old pieces and clippings of silver were laid on a shelf, in the sitting-room, and my wife found them next day, when she was putting the room in order."

Swedish municipalities also have those and they're.... eh. Some of the olde rones are pretty cool but most of the modern ones are just awfully yawn-inducing. I really like Krokom, using one of their famous petroglyphs as their arms, as do Tanum.

I also like the sheer pride of Stömsund, who were so proud of their local bridge that they put it on their arms. Ie this is in the blazon, specifically the Stömsund Bridge, not just any old generic bridge.

And Ragunda, who has what I feel like is very close to being the insignia of some sort of supervillain organization

There's also some other's that I just find aesthetically pleasing in various ways:

I don't know if different muncipalities having their own coat of arms is a thing outside of Finland, but I rather like many of them. Like, the only way to go wrong in a coat of arms is to make it boring, the best ones are the most memorable ones. Have a collection of the few that I consider the least aesthetic, most boring coats of arms of all finnish muncipalities. If you see your own hometown coat on this list, do not come at me - fix your own problems first and move somewhere else.

Bland, generic, tells no story. Unfuckable. The kind of shit you'd see on the shield of an enemy that's getting their ass kicked by the Cool Sexy Woman Knight in the first round of a jousting event in a corny but riveting fantasy movie. Now, let's look at some of the cool ones:

Striking. Distinct. Tells you a story, gives you some clue about what this place is and what is the story of the people who live here. Can occasionally afford more than two colours per coat. Now that's sexy. These, these are good. I had a hard time choosing only nine that I liked best, so I decided to divide the examples of Sexy Coats of Arms into non-animal and animal cathegories. These are examples of the cool ones with animals on them:

And as a final special mention we have Kouvola. The city of Kouvola largely doesn't deserve the bad rep it has - the crime rate isn't that high, the title of "the ugliest city in Finland" is a bit harsh since it does have some vaguely soviet/dystopian grunge brutalist aesthetic if you're into that sort of thing, and in my experience the friendliest crackheads in Finland. But all those things said, their coat of arms does kinda feature this thing eerily similar to the symbol of Chaos

Picture of Oviksfjällen mountains in the centre, standing at the end of the world and towering over parts of Ragunda and Stugun parishes. The mountains are 120 kilometers away from the camera. A small part of Anarisfjällen mountains (150 kilometers from the camera) is visible through a gap in the range. Human history begins on top of the mountains and ends on the ground in front of my feet.

The municipality is bordered to the west by Ånge municipality and in the north by Sollefteå and Timrå municipalities in Västernorrland County. In the northwest, Sundsvall municipality is bordered by Bräcke and Ragunda municipalities in Jämtland County and in the south by Nordanstig Municipality in Gävleborg County. East of Sundsvall is the Bothnian Sea.

In the easternmost part of the municipality lies sundsvall archipelago with Alnön as the largest island, known for Alnöiten, Medelpad's landscape rock, a volcanic rock found on Alnön that 550 million years ago was a volcano.
